Anne is absolutely SAVAGE in the end. Mr. Elliot proposes and she’s just like “Sorry, not listening. Gotta run. After that other guy. Which is the person that’s most important to me. So, I’m gonna run. Literally.”

And then when Mr. Elliot reminds her of his proposal and she just goes “Oh, you said something? Yeah, sorry, I was way too busy to think about your proposal. Oh, look who’s here! The other guy again. Btw, did I mention that we’re engaged?”

*Chef’s kiss* Perfection. Never gets old. Anne’s done with all of their shit and I’m here for it. And always will be.

Also, Wentworth’s smile like a kid at Christmas when he announces that Anne has agreed to marry him.

On my seventieth reading of Austen’s Persuasion I am more convinced than ever that Admiral and Mrs Croft knew all about the Frederick and Anne love and they were matchmaking masterminds in the background. I mean they weren’t doing a great job but fucking hell they had an uphill battle with Captain Wentworth being a fucking moron clown in his dipshit self-delusion phase.

What’s a pairing or fandom you’ve always wanted to write for but haven’t yet?

Captain Wentworth and Anne Elliot! I finally started a one-shot with them, but don't have much done yet.

Another pairing I've never written a single word for is Captain Swan aka Killian and Emma from Once Upon a Time. I think they'd be a lot of fun to write, and I even have an idea, but I've yet to start anything.

...And I just realized both ships have a naval captain in them 😂

Before this they were kind of a couple, but not really: "between whom there had been a considerable appearance of attachment"; "and Henriette did seem to like him." From this we can see that they are on the edge of becoming a couple, as well as from all thr interest that Henrietta takes I'm Charles Hayter's career prospects.

But - the above quotes are about appearances and not what they actually are. That first one is also a pretty long-winded (I.e., namby pamby) sentence. "[T]hey were devoted to each other" is a phrase much more powerful.

And this mutual devotion is brought about by a break (albeit a short one), and rekindling of the romance.

It's foreshadowing and promise of the strength of Anne and Captain Wentworth's love that stands the test of time and circumstance. Not that anyone, I think, needs testament of their love, but I like it.
