Fun Fact
BuzzFeed published a report claiming that Tumblr was utilized as a distribution channel for Russian agents to influence American voting habits during the 2016 presidential election in Feb 2018.
I decided I’m gonna post more about animated movies since they are an interest of mine. Although HTTYD 3 is here, im not gonna talk about since they are my ultimate favourite movies, so people already know how I feel about them. It is of course, the one I’m the most excited about (it’s leagues above the rest), other than that, in order of excitement.
#10: Christopher Robin: Mainly because I have no interest in the characters, but also because I don’t know why it needs a weird live action/semi animated feature film.
#9: The Grinch: Illumination is meh, and the story looks boring, as does the animation.
#8: Mowgli: So many people have made this movie now, giving it a new title doesn’t change much. Some of the animals look well animated, but others look terrifying in my opinion.
#7: Teen Titans Go: I don’t watch this series, but I would like to at some point. The characters seem interesting enough, but I’m not the biggest fan of the cheap looking 2D animation.
#6: Smallfoot: The whole monster thinking humans are the scary ones has been done before with Monsters Inc, but I am intrigued by the story line. The animation looks good enough, but it gives me an illumination vibe.
#5: Spider Man Into the Spiderverse: I’m gonna admit I’m not really that into superheroes and have only watched Amazing Spider-Man. Netherless, I would love to watch this as the animation is stunning and impressive considering they made it look like a comic. Maybe this could get me into more superheroes?
#4: Hotel Transylvania 3: I loved the first two movies as they are basically Halloween classics! The route this one has decided to take looks interesting, even if the storyline and characters looks slightly predictable.
#3: Wreck it Ralph 2: I love the route they have decided to take here, expecially including previous Disney/Pixar characters, although I’m not the biggest fan of the other product placements. The animation is also really vibrant and colourful!
#2: Incredibles 2: WOW, cannot wait to see more of Jack Jack! The story looks refreshing and I expecially love how the more successful hero of the family is Mrs Incredible, and her husband is trying his very hardest to be supportive despite him being the original breadwinner! Cannot wait to see how this one turns out!
#1: The Lego Movie 2: Although most people are more excited about the incredibles, the first Lego Movie was so original despite the odds. It also surprised me, as well as being hilariously immature. This really appeals to me more than any of the Disney sequels as I know it’ll be another great story!
Robthefrog’s short film that’s close to being a feature (it’s an hour long) about Ed Pond’s poetry tour is now available to watch on YouTube! You can check it out here! Above are some nuggets of animation I provided for the film last year!

Here is my latest animation produced with BBC Studios, currently airing on TV in New Zealand! This was a incredible opportunity and one of the most fun projects I've ever worked on!
There is a line when my interviewee introduces whose wedding she went to, “My dad’s colleague’s friends’ daughter’s”, so I want to create a feeling of bomb bomb bomb - a bit pressure and too many information.
Then I look at Wayne the Stegosaurus’s textures. I finally find out what exactly I want.
The colour should be stable in its places which can make it looks like I hand draw each frame. And the timing should be a bit faster. Instead of one image per 4 frames or 3 frames, it would be better at one per 2 frames.
Scene 2 is a very important scene in my animation since it is the first colourful shots.
This is the style frame I made at the very early stage of production.
The vivid colours and shiny pieces of jewellery. Needing to be standing out from the background.
But I think it would be too boring if just the girl stands in front of the camera and talks, so I decided to make it even more dramatic.
Then, I add the animation on her earrings, hair and the dress. I try to make the feeling of it is a magic that everything suddenly changes to the Indian world.
I really the movement of how the dress flies. Since I don’t have a suri, I was using roll paper to simulate the movement of flying.
I was trying to make a 2D illustration (text with outlines) in illustrator for a whole day.
Goal: Get borders on text in 3D since the camera is going to pass through the text.
Result: false.
Reason:
(1) I’m not familiar with Adobe Illustrator, so not really sure how to create the image I want although I spent a morning to try and look at some beginner tutorials. (probably need to watch more)
(2) I tried to use text and add borders (outlines) on the text from Ai and exported as svg image, however, Maya doesn’t read the image this way. The result of import it was mess up.
(3) Tried to make the image of the text and border I wanted, then use Ai’s pen tool to copy the shape and the borders. Since I’m not familiar with Ai, I spent heaps of time on pen tool, but couldn’t get the result I wanted.
26th Oct 9:00 pm update
I think I can make 2D borders with the text and then while the camera move, the 3D text shows up to create the 3D perspective and 2D border follows. I will see how it will go.
I really like the idea of using the question marks to cover their faces.
This idea is inspired by a Japanese Drama called I’m Home, the story is about a man who loses his memories of anyone who is closed to him, so everyone has a mask on the face in the man’s view.
The inspiration for making the paper tied by a rope one head is from the Japanese Yokai culture. Here is an example from the anime Natsume's Book of Friends which is about Yokai.
I think this idea is quite logical of how to use paper to cover the face.
