(Little Raya drew herself next to her parents. She missed her dad very much, dreamed of talking to him and did not understand why he did not live with her and her mother)
Tumblr media
(Although Ada's parents were an excellent example of a strong and loving couple, Ada herself seemed uninterested in interpersonal relationships)
Tumblr media
(So that Ada would spend more time with her daughter and rely less on them, Anfisa and Eduard went to the spa. Yes, they teleported)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(After the hamam and a relaxing massage, the couple retired to the jacuzzi)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(It was a pity that the thin fabric curtain could not hide them completely from prying eyes)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(They returned home in the evening and found their daughter happily chatting with her neighbor Victor. Ada liked him when she was a teenager, but now she does not have a single chance: Victor's wife Ilona is not a wall, but a fighting fortress, capable of giving a powerful rebuff to her rival)
Tumblr media
(Ada should pay attention to her daughter's father, who, being unemployed, poor, young specialist, gave Ada an expensive telescope. I hope Ray didn't steal it from the lab)
Tumblr media
(In the morning, having arranged a hot date for her husband and seeing him off to work, Anfisa invited her potential son-in-law home. Fortunately, she didn't have to persuade him to talk to little Raya for long. The baby was delighted to see her dad)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Anfisa decided that she could improve Ray's relationship with Ada by persuading him to court her, and then maybe the young couple would get to kissing)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(However, Ada ran off to work hoping to get a promotion and without a romantic mood. Why would she need this promotion if their family doesn't need anything, and Eduard again received a bonus of 80,000 simoleons?)
Tumblr media
(While Eduard, who had returned from work, was teaching his granddaughter nursery rhymes, Anfisa decided to ask Ray about his work. The guy didn't want to admit that he was fired and wasn't looking for a new job, so he was rude to Anfisa)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Ada came home in the evening, having reached the top of her career and become a game developer. It would seem that it was time to take care of her personal life, but the girl had completely different plans, and she showed complete indifference to her fiancé)

Greater Than Me
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was already late in the evening, the Training Grounds is long since nearly empty, the lights stayed on for whatever other fighters still remained. General Shao himself hadn't left the area for the entire day, training all afternoon and well into the evening.
It was the day before the Tournament, and before the Earthrealmers would visit Outworld. Every chosen champion of Outworld trained vigoriously to prepare and show their honed skill and might.
The General had only a moment of rest in-between exercise the whole day, standing beside a wooden training dummy he had beaten up beyond repair a couple of hours ago, but it still stood erect with its stuffing spilling out of the tears and holes and it's wood was split in splinters.
And, of course, the General's firstborn daughter had no better things to do than to sneak out of home to see her father. Anfisa was more reckless out of all four children of General's, especially when the nine-year-old had her head in the clouds.
Though, surprisingly, both Anfisa and Czundaii are naive, optimistic, and walking sunshines, and who knew from which member of their family they got this from?
Definitely not from Shao's.
Shao had gotten a little busier with his duties and mostly (rarely) saw his family on weekends, he had gotten all the more sour with the approaching Kombat.
If there is anything the General detests more than festivals and celebrations then it's Earthrealm and Liu Kang, hence his reason for keeping up a daily training routine and barely going home after work... no one but Reiko in Shao's family understands his reasoning. It is all but a matter of pride.
Still being little enough, Anfisa was never noticeable when she didn't want to be. She watched her father from afar behind the benches where soldiers took breaks, left their weapons and gears, twirling her braid in thought.
Glancing at where Shao had left his double-sided axe leaning against, she walked over to the large, heavy weapon in awe because she had almost never seen it. Maybe two times.
But another, more menacing-looking weapon beside it caught her attention.
It was big and long, quite scary-looking with the engraved shapes of metal design that decorated it. It was twice the size of her small body and looked even heavier at one glance. But it just... spoke to her. Wordlessly. As if it tried to cajole her over... and it worked.
Fixing up her pouch bag's shoulder strap at her backside, she grasped a handle of someone's hammer with determination and rush of excitement surged through her veins. The weight was obviously ponderous for a little girl but she still tried nonetheless, however, all that she managed was to drag the head of the hammer, scrape the stone ground than lift it up an inch.
From his spot by the training dummy, Shao's eyes had been darting around constantly while he rested, as his muscles tensed and flexed underneath the various parts of his armor. When he suddenly caught a glimpse of a tiny figure next to his axe, his eyes widened slightly. He immediately recognized it as his daughter.
The General was about to open his mouth, but barely parted his lips ajar when he decided against it. Tempted, wouldn't even cut how he felt about shouting at her and lecture her for handling weapons that were far too heavy for her, but he stayed quiet as curiosity began to gnaw on him.
None of his children, aside Reiko of course, are allowed to get near weapons, his wife had prohibited it. But to see his daughter handle the war hammer with a lingering sense of familiarity had him stop and consider giving this a brief chance, just to see for himself how Anfisa would handle it.
Anfisa very much looks like her mother through and through, and very possibly is a TaiGore like Nejteri — they are still trying to figure it out, though.
The girl is a very kindhearted soul and no one had ever seen her in any conflict whatsoever, but that didn't mean she had no strength if she tried hard enough. And what the General learned, by being for decades with his wife; is that looks can decieve.
Anfisa heaved puffed exhales, stretching onto her toes as she tried to lift the weapon almost as big as her, throwing her whole body into it until her chin whipped back to get her thick braid off her shoulder and her spine bowed.
In the heat of the moment, she did manage to swiftly lift up the hammer in an attempt to throw it over her shoulder, but before she could cheer to herself, gravity sharply tore her backwards, chasing the weight of the hammer.
With a yelp, she ended on her back and still held tight onto the hammer's handle as the head of it slammed hard into the ground just above her head, the cracks of the stone had reached below her nape which helped for the reality to dawn on her.
Her wide, blue eyes blinked up at the sky, shocked and disoriented. Her head and body slightly tingled from the aftershocks, but she didn't feel any pain, perhaps a bonus for having hard bones.
General Shao's own eyes widened in shock, his instincts immediately kicking in and he was moving before registering it, crossing the distance across the training grounds in quick strides until he reached his child within a few seconds.
He knelt down beside her, his heart racing. It felt like a heavy weight was lifted off his chest when he saw that she wasn't injured, only shook.
"What were you trying to do, Anfisa?" Shao's voice was stern as he spoke, but with just a sliver of a hint of worry in it.
His daughter looked a little startled to see her father tower over her before her expression melted into a sweet, innocent grin. "Hi, papa..."
That untainted innocence and bashfulness made his stern expression soften a little, his heart rate still beating faster than normal.
Shao shifted so that he was sitting down on the ground, one of his muscular legs crossed below the propped one. He carefully took the hammer out of her grip, setting it on the ground beside him and far from her reach.
"You know better than to be lifting something heavier than you." he scolded her, his tone was slightly uncertain - he doesn't chide his warriors; he punishes them and somehow the role of a parent is still something he's adjusting to.
Anfisa slightly pouted but let her father take the hammer out of her hands and sat up with a little grunt, leaning to his closest leg and folded her slim arms on top of his knee, peering up at him with her blue eyes. "I want to be strong like mama."
Shao exhaled a little hum to her words and gently placed his large hand on her head, his fingers running through the dark-red locks until reaching the braid and repeated the motion once more before letting his palm to rest atop her crown.
"... You are already strong, in your own way." he offered some sort of support with an indifferent tone, there was a hint of tenderness in it, if one listened closely.
Subconsciously, it is one of the many words he used to wish his own father would have said to him, and he suddenly felt like his daughter may be too similar to him than he first thought.
Anfisa closed her eyes and leaned into her father's palm by raising her chin from her arms, sighing softly, seeking his caresses. "Everyone is stronger than me, papa. Even Nari! I'm the one always being helped... the Helpless One..."
Shao's face fell into another frown as a small pang hit his heart. Despite her never-ending optimism, it was painful to hear her say such depressing words. She was his daughter, after all, his own blood and flesh, and he didn't want to see her unhappy.
He rarely tried to look at things positively, but this time he did, for her. "You have yet to grow, Anfisa. One day you shall be as strong as your mother, stronger, even."
Anfisa looked thoughtfully to the side before lifting her wide, blue, and hopeful eyes up at her father. "... You really think so, papa? Even stronger than you?"
"I know so," Shao nodded, his dour face slowly shifting into a small, encouraging smile that tugged one corner of his mouth higher. He gently ruffled the top of her head again, his fingertips were risen to avoid scratching her with his dark, sharp nails. "You have my blood in you, after all."
Anfisa let out a soft giggle, the very idea of it had lifted up her spirit, reaching up to grasp at his large hand before looking at him with soft, puppy eyes. "Can you teach me with a mace? Pleeeeaase?"
Her hopeful look made his cold heart melt once again, his gruff face showing a small twitch of a smile. Shao almost chuckled, giving a small nod again, reaching down to brush her braid back over her shoulder. He had faced many horrors in battle and this is what breaks his will?
"I will teach you... but we must find something for your size, and also ask your mother."
"Hurray~! I cannot wait to show Mirai!" Anfisa's face lit up and she grinned widely up at him. She jumped up on her feet, patting the skirt of her dress from dirt and then gently pawed at his metal chest armor with her tiny, petite fingers. "Let's go home, papa! Mama's worried... and upset. Come on! Come on!"
Shao let out a low grunt when his chest piece was being tugged at with shocking force, his expression shifted to slight amusement. His daughter always had energy to burn and never could stay still for a moment, makes him ponder from whom she inherited it from.
The General stood up and dusted at his clothing before rebuking with no heat behind his words, Anfisa bounced on her toes for a moment while waiting. "No need to drag me, little one."
Once Shao stood up straight and tall, she sprinted right behind him and with the help of his short, folded cape, she climbed up his back and flopped her upper body over one of his shoulders before clumsily rotating around to sit on it instead. Her father had his arms raised at the ready to catch her were she to slip.
"Nari got into trouble today." she wasted no time in spilling the beans to her father, although Nejteri asked her not to make Shao upset with such stuff when he already has too much on his plate, Anfisa just can't help herself.
Shao let out a quiet but amused huff of breath, gently grabbing her ankle to keep her from falling when seated in the crook of his neck and then began to march out of the Training Grounds.
"Oh?" his tone sounded half-musing, his pace slow as he navigated through a path lined by trees and he ducked left or right so a branch wouldn't slap Anfisa in the face. "And what kind of trouble did your sister got herself into this time?"
The General's daughter folded one arm behind his horn and rested her elbow on top of Shao's head, her weight almost nonexistant despite her age and height. "At school, she force fed worms to a kid that was mean to Czundaii. Mama was called over to deal with it."
Shao tried not to seem impressed and proud at the news about his daughter's exploits right in front of his oldest daughter, it would be bad influence; or so he was told by a few people over the years after starting fatherhood.
Like any good parent, he made a mental note to talk to Nari about her 'tactics' the next time he saw her.
"Your younger sister has good intentions..." Shao said in a flat but amused tone. "Although I don't approve of her methods, I understand her.. radical.. thinking."
He began to turn a corner down the street, holding onto Anfisa's ankle tighter so she wouldn’t fall, though his strides were slow and wide an adult couldn't be extra careful with the likes of Anfisa.
"... But why me, Nari, and Czundaii must be in the center of attention when we don't want to, especially when we do something? Why doesn't brother Reiko has it too?" Anfisa leaned back and rested her cheek close to the base of her father's horn and it cooled her warm cheek. "It's almost like we're expected to meet others' high expectations— only because you're a General...... It's not fair."
Shao was slightly taken aback in the moment, not just because she was so suddenly pressed close to his horned head now, but also the question she had suddenly asked.
A quiet, slight hum escaped his lips as he thought to himself for a brief moment, his expression growing more stoic.
"You are right, Anfisa. It is not." the General agreed with a slow nod. "But, when your father is the greatest General in Outworld, a warrior, and a descendant from the mighty military family that had been serving the throne for generations... people will expect great things from his children."
By the Elder Gods, he began to sound just like his father, doesn't he...?
Anfisa frowned softly, troubled, and leaned her cheek on top of his scaled head with a soft sight. ".... Do you expect great things from us, papa?"
Her question made his pace slightly falter for a silent moment before he resumed again.
Shao swallowed, quietly gathering his thoughts. It was a hard question, a question he knew he would be asked eventually. But it still felt all too soon from a child that still has quite a journey before teenagehood.
The truth was that he did expect great things from his children, he wanted his children to accomplish great things, no, expected them to. His expectancy, one that he himself was raised on, is that the children will be greater and do even better than their fathers. But the thought that he was putting immense pressure on his own children, when he vowed to his wife he would do the opposite, made a slight pang of guilt stab at his chest.
His younger children who hadn't even made it to adulthood yet had already been burdened by the projection of society's view on his family's bloodline, and it stirred an immense distaste in his gut against the very civilians he made an oath to protect.
"I know you are all different, Anfisa," Shao voiced his statement with slight harshness for his words not to be taken lightly, actually trying to be honest with his kid. "You have different interests, different goals in life... I do not expect either of you to follow behind my footsteps. I would only ask of you to be the best at what either of you choose to do."
There were a couple of quiet moments as they continued to walk. Shao's gaze stayed low, the stoic frown on his face never leaving.
"All I want, is for you all to lead fulfilling lives..." he added in a slightly quieter tone as he rounded a sharp corner to the plaza sidewalk beneath hung lanterns on a rope that webbed all around the wide, open space of a nearly empty market place. "... and to be the best version of yourselves."
Because, unlike Shao and his brothers, neither Nejteri for that matter, were given a chance to be who they wanted to be, their duties were set for them the moment they were born or reached an acceptable age to start their crafted journey. The General doesn't want that for his other children, he already made that mistake when raising Reiko on his own.
Anfisa listened quietly, for a change, the nine-year-old nuzzled the top of his head right after he was done speaking and she watched one hung lantern pass after another while Shao walked closer to their home down the street. "...... I love you, papa."
Shao's frame relaxed a little at her words but at the same time had his insides flip around from the unexpected but not unwanted affirmation, the smallest, micro glimmer of a smile softened his hooded eyes beneath an unmoving furrow.
He was used to the usual rough and tumble children that he grew up with, his own brothers, but with his firstborn and oldest daughter it was something different. She was soft, and gentle, even compared to his youngest daughter.
A little bundle of sweetness that he was afraid to break or taint, something he took careful measures of not to repeat the history.
"As do I, my little one... I cherish you, too."

(How good it is to live with parents! Mom cleans, dad cooks, and they also look after their granddaughter)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Anfisa and Eduard did everything possible to make their daughter happy and fulfill her dream - to reach the top of her career, and Ada was very happy with this situation)
Tumblr media
(However, neither the years nor household chores could cool their love. If only Ada could find a reliable life partner)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(It's good that there is no need to worry about her son anymore. However, contrary to tradition, when the groom buys the bride, Karina brought her husband's parents a stereo system)
Tumblr media
(After looking at the beautiful Karina, Ada finally decided… no, not to get married, but to buy new clothes)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(In addition, Eduard received a solid bonus of 80,000 simoleons for deciding not to take risks and not to let another impudent intern into his office, remembering the previous case when his family went bankrupt after a similar visit)
Tumblr media
(Eduard told Sashka about his professional successes, who, while his parents were not at home, Ada caught on the landing and forced him to cook food)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Anfisa didn't run away from home on her day off, but went to the dog park to train their dog Max)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Children grow up very quickly, especially when don't take care of them. But Ada always had good reasons, for example, interest in games doesn't just happen by itself)
Tumblr media
(And then her daughter's father invited Ada on a date. How could she refuse?)
Tumblr media
(Rey invited Ada to take a walk in the park at night. He dreamed of marrying her, but Ada didn't want to take responsibility for her own family yet)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Hungry, the lovers went to a cafe, but a late dinner didn't happen. Their passion was too strong)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Let's hope this doesn't result in another illegitimate baby, because Ada, having no desire for romance, wanted intimacy in public places with 3 different partners)
