Andy Reid's Contract Extension Sends Shockwaves Through NFL
The Chiefs announced the contract extension for the 66-year-old head coach, as well as GM Red Beach and the team president, Mark Donovan. Reed's deal is going to run through 2029, and NFL Network reports that it's going to make him the highest-paid head coach in the league. And remember, Kansas City coming off their third Super Bowl title in the Reid era. They've also won eight straight AFC West titles and have made six straight appearances in the AFC title game. For now, or for more, I should say, let's welcome in our NFL analyst and two-time Super Bowl champ himself, Brian McFadden. And look, BMac, there was a lot of talk after the Super Bowl that Reid might be hanging it up. Clearly, that's not happening. So what do you make of Big Red staying in Kansas City for half a decade? This is huge for the organization. This is huge for the fan base. I mean, this is big time for all of us as well, right, Chris? Because we're in the midst of talking about this dynasty the Chiefs are currently involved in, of course, trying to win their third Super Bowl in a row, something that we've never seen done in the Super Bowl era. This is huge when you talk about the commitment, right? So one would think and one would assume Andy Reid is not making this commitment not knowing if Patrick Mahomes will be the quarterback the rest of the way when you look at the length of his contract. So clearly, there's been some communication when you talk about Andy Reid and Pat Mahomes just staying tied to the H with that organization, which is huge, because when you look at that player-coach relationship, one of the best relationships that we've watched in the National Football League. So when you talk about just having that stability on the offensive side, and don't forget, Chris, as well, remember they signed Steve Spagnuolo to an extension a week or so after winning the Super Bowl in Las Vegas. So now they have their defensive coordinator locked up for the long term. The same can be said for their head coach and play caller. So the structure they have on the coaching staff is huge when you look at the development and the production that they've been able to do with those two guys on the sideline in Steve Spagnuolo and Andy Reid, two of the best coaches in the game by far. Now, the other thing we have to talk about, BMac, Reid's age. So he's going to be 71 by the time this contract runs out. Do you have any concerns about the length of this deal, or has he earned the benefit of the doubt that he's still going to be able to perform at a high level and have that creativity with the offensive schemes once he does reach 71? I don't have any issues with the deal because I think 5 years is a nice sweet spot for Andy Reid, especially when the motivation is still there, and most importantly, winning. Who gets tired of winning, right, Chris? Who gets tired of being successful? I mean, that's something that we're all driven by is winning and trying to continue to do something that many people say that you can't do. So when you talk about the 5-year window being 71, last time I checked, Bill Belichick just finished coaching. I think he was 69 or 70, if I'm not mistaken, and he clearly wants to continue to coach. Unfortunately, he will not be coaching this year. So I think that's a nice sweet spot for Andy Reid. And when you know he hits that four-year plateau or that five-year plateau, then it's something to think about. But I have when you look at this window, this five-year window, and seeing how well this team has been able to perform with Pat Mahomes, one would think more in good health in a 5-year stretch, they should at least, bare minimum, right, Chris, see two more sticky Lombardis. Hey, I think that's at the bare minimum. I think that's doable as long as Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes are there, Travis Kelce. I think it's very likely. Now, speaking about hoisting more Lombardi trophies, they're going for an unprecedented third straight Super Bowl, which would be crazy. Do you think they get there from what you've seen so far and what you expect going into the season? Man, I'm not betting against Kansas City. I'm not betting against Andy Reid, Pat Mahomes, Steve Spagnuolo, what they did last year. For me, watching how they were able to win ball games and win the championship, I feel like this was the time to get to really catch Kansas City sleeping at the wheel because they had some issues on the offensive side. The wide receivers were dealing with drops. They weren't as efficient as what we've seen in years past, especially scoring points per ball game. But their defense prevailed. And then, of course, the offense came to the party, making timely plays that led them to win a championship. One would think they will improve their team on both sides of the football, specifically speaking on the offensive side. So what happens to the rest of the National Football League? What happens to the rest of the AFC West if this team that just won a Super Bowl and what I saw, it was kind of like a down year because we didn't really see the video game-like numbers that we've seen in years past from Pat Mahomes? What happens if they improve when it comes to the personnel with talent? So to answer your question, no question, I'm not betting against Kansas City until I see otherwise. I'm I have to ride with Kansas City. Now, anything can happen. That's why the game of football, the NFL, is such an entertaining league because anything can happen. But number 15 has shown all of us going back to year a year ago in 2022, he was able to prevail on one leg, one ankle. Then going back to what we just most recently witnessed, dealing with inconsistencies at the wide receiver position, he still found a way. You better believe number 15 will find a way in 2024. Yeah. Uh, I'm with you. I'm never betting I bet against KC when they played the Ravens never doing that again whatsoever, BAC with the latest giving great perspective on Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes. He loves it, saying, 'Yes, sir,' as Andy Reid is going to be the head coach of Kansas City through 2029. Read the full article

SB LVIII: Andy Reid’s title march
LAS VEGAS - Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has been there and done that. Reid celebrated with his team after leading the Chiefs to a 25-22 overtime win against the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII. The win gives Reid and the Chiefs three NFL championships in the last five years. Kansas City has made four appearances in the Super Bowl under Reid’s watch. Reid is now 3-1 in Super Bowl games since he has been head coach of the Chiefs.

The opening night ceremony took place at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. Photo credit: Dennis J. Freeman/News4usonline Those wins came against San Francisco (twice) and against the Philadelphia Eagles, a team that Reid used to coach. Reid won 130 games for the Eagles and guided teams to five NFC Championships during his tenure. The only thing missing on Reid’s resume at the time was winning a Super Bowl. He doesn’t seem to have that problem as coach of the Chiefs Under Reid’s watch, Kansas City has played in four of the last five Super Bowls. In beating the Niners, Reid and the Chiefs have strung together back-to-back championships, something that is somewhat of an out-of-body experience for the Kansas City coach. “It’s a little bit surreal. Back-to-back is rare for this football team and this organization,” Reid said. “I don’t know what a dynasty is. You guys have the thesaurus, so you can figure it out. It’s a great win because I know how hard it is to do and how hard the season was. The ups and downs of the season and how proud I am of the guys for just hanging with each other and staying positive with each other.” “The young guys grew up, and nobody ever pointed fingers at the offense when the offense was growing. It all kind of came together during the playoffs and worked out well. Great leaders in Patrick , Chris , and Trav , the job that they’ve done,” Reid added. “They’re passionate players, and I love that, even if they chest bump me to the other side of the 50. I appreciate it. I just love that the guy wants to play and wants to be in there playing. He knows I love that, so he makes me feel young.” Reid has posted an overall mark of 3-2 in the Big Game if you count his lone appearance in the Super Bowl as the former head coach of the Eagles. What a difference a team makes. Reid is beloved and warmly embraced in Kansas City. Reid was run out of Philadelphia after not producing a Super Bowl winner. He knows what winning football means. He understands the building of a winning tradition. After seeing quarterback Patrick Mahomes doing Patrick Mahomes as he led Kansas City on an improbable drive to lead his team to victory in the extra session, Reid talked to reporters about how tough it is to win one title, let alone to play in multiple championship games. "Listen, I mean, this is a tough profession, which we all know, is competitive,” Reid said. “I mean, the parity in this league is ridiculous. And so, to watch your guys work and focus and all that, I mean, you just appreciate – I think the older you get, you probably appreciate that also. I mean, I appreciate the first one because it took me a thousand years to get into a Super Bowl." “At least being able to hold that Lombardi Trophy. I appreciate every day that I have to do this. I work for a great owner and ownership family. Between Mark Donovan, Veach and myself, we’re lucky to be Kansas City Chiefs. And so, that part feels good. And then, we have a good locker room and we have good coaches,” he added.

The win against the Eagles in 2023 was the first of two straight for Reid and the Chiefs. Kansas City has now secured back-to-back Super Bowl victories. Photo credit: Dennis J. Freeman/News4usonline The Chiefs are repeat Super Bowl champions because of the improbable playmaking of Mahomes, and the timeliness of their defense. Reid, however, is the one who makes it all go for the Chiefs. “He’s one of the best coaches of all time. I believe he's the best coach of all time,” Mahomes said. “I know he didn't have the trophies yet and I have a lot of respect for some of those great coaches. But the way he's able to navigate every single team he has, continue to have success no matter where he's at.” “He brings out the best of me because he lets me be me. I think that's important, is he doesn't try to make me anyone else. I don't think I'd be the quarterback that I am if I didn't have Coach Reid being my head coach. And other than that, he wants to be the best person you can be. And that's something that I think is truly special,” Mahomes added. Read the full article

NFL 2023 Kickoff Betting Preview
Give yourself a round of applause. You have survived another NFL offseason. On Thursday, the new 2023 season kicks off in Kansas City, as the defending Super Bowl champion Chiefs hang their banner with the Detroit Lions in town. The NFL moved to a single-game Thursday kickoff in 2002, and since 2004, it has been a tradition to have that game hosted by the defending Super Bowl champions. There will be concerts, a larger-than-normal tailgate at Arrowhead Stadium, and a full celebration of the 272 games of the regular season to come. Amid all the pomp and circumstance, there will be a football game. A pretty good football game at that. And there will be NFL betting.
NFL Week 1: Detroit Lions at Kansas City Chiefs (-7)
If there is one team that is impossible to hate, it is the Detroit Lions. Their starting quarterback, Jared Goff, is engaged to a Sports Illustrated swimsuit model. Their head coach is ranked No. 1 on everyone’s list of “want to have a beer with.” Their fans have been battered by bad teams since the 1950s, yet they remain loyal. There is something about the city of Detroit and something about the Lions that you want to root for. And to top it off, they are actually a good team. They are favored to win the NFC North because they have one of the best offenses in the NFL. We won’t see Jameson Williams to begin the season, but in the age of diminishing running back returns, rookie Jahmyr Gibbs is an exciting one to watch.
The Kansas City Chiefs are also a pretty good team. For each of the five years that Partick Mahomes has been the quarterback, they have hosted the AFC Championship Game. Twice, they have won the Super Bowl with Mahomes, and they are the preseason betting favorite to win a third. Chris Jones remains a holdout, which will hurt the Chiefs pass rush. Can the Lions take advantage of that? Maybe, on offense. But the Chiefs offense should have its way with a suspect Lions defense.
Game Pick: Chiefs (-7)
Andy Reid is 9-1 in Week 1 as the head coach of the Chiefs, 5-0 with Mahomes as the starting quarterback, and Mahomes has 18 Week 1 touchdown passes and no interceptions. In these five season-openers, the Chiefs have won them all by an average of 13 points, and four of the five wins were by at least 10 points. Go with the Chiefs at home.
Pay Per Head Software
We have 18 weeks of the NFL coming up, then four more rounds of postseason play. Plus, college football is in its second week, the baseball pennant races are as hot as ever, and then basketball and hockey will be here on a nightly basis. It can be too much for an independent bookmaker to stay on top of unless that bookie is also paired with a top pay per head software provider, like WagerHome.com. With WagerHome, you get a fully customizable website, access to WagerHome’s huge menu of sports and betting options, plus EZ Live betting. See a demo today at WagerHome.com. Read the full article
