Hii, I’m a new fan and what is mapping 8? And why is everyone saying stuff about it?
Hi anon 👋👋👋
So let's start for the basic, what is mapping? Mapping are the different configurations riders have for their bikes and controls everything, gas/fuel consumption, how to manage tyres, traction, etc, etc, etc. So the mappings are essencial.
Usually there is 2 mappings, the 'best setting' and the 'saving setting'. Usually when a rider recibes a mapping message, it means that they need to manually change something in the bike, fuel consumption, break balance or something else I can't remember at he moment. With the number they say to which mapping. According to Dani Pedrosa, an ex-rider and a MotoGP legends, each control have 3 levels (Level 1, level 2 and level 3).
Before the race, teams and riders do talk and stablish what each mapping means, but usually they only show 'Mapping 2'. For Suzuki it was an increase of pace, and recently for another rider was a decrease in fuel consumption. But as I said usually only is 'Mapping 2' and it's something is already talked.
Now What is mapping 8? (or any other weird number for a mapping?) It's a code from the team/manufacturer to the rider. Until recently we believed it was a do not attack from Gresini/Ducati to Diggia and there's the precedent of a Dovi vs Jorge, when Jorge Lorenzo had to drop 1 position it it was a Mapping 8 or Mapping 9. In this case, Diggia just said that it was a green light for him to attack Pecco as his tyres were in the correct window temperature and he had the pace for it.
I hope this explains it for you
