event: Creek Fest
location: Hideaway Market
date & time: September 21-28; 10AM - 10PM
ooc duration: same times!
It's that time of year again -- Creek Fest! The tents and booths are all set up, the tractors full of hay and ready to cart you around, and we here in Merrock and at Hideaway Market are ready to welcome in fall the best way that we know how! Big to note: both the Merrock Community College and Merrock School District have decided to close on Thursday (September 26th) and Friday (September 27th) to give families more time to enjoy the event.
All of Hideaway Market is open for the week, with many of the shops and businesses offering specials and sales if you stop in. Some even have refreshments or gifts for the kids! All around the market place, you will find food and drink tents and booths and tents full of local goodies brought out by our own Merrockites. Plenty to eat and drink, and lots of shopping to be done!
For the kids, we recommend checking out the corn pit, participating in the scavenger hunt, getting their faces painted (adults are welcome, too!), jumping in on a game of corn hole, or taking a walk over to The Meadows, where a number of 'sports stations' have been set up for kids and adults alike who want to play.
For the adults (or kids looking to do something more mature), we have plenty of things for you to get involved in. You can paint or carve your own pumpkins, stuff your own scarecrows, make wreaths and flower arrangements, decorate fall themed t-shirts or paint your own ceramics! Lavender Lane has also opened their seasonal operation, where they will be selling mums, pumpkins and various other fall flowers and plants.
The tractor will be available to take people to Harmony Ranch where you can jump into the corn maze or sunflower maze, buy your dairy products and fresh produce, or visit the petting zoo and pony rides! You can also take a tractor to Sunrise Orchard to pick all of the apples that your heart can ever want.
And of course, the name sake of Creek Fest -- Black Creek's walking trails have been freshened up and marked, so you can take a hike with your honey to see the falls, or maybe get your photos taken by one of our local photographers at one of the more scenic spots. We are also selling t-shirts, mugs, bags and more 'souvenir style' gifts at the Historical Society booth, with proceeds going towards the conservation and upkeep of our beautiful creek. If you need help while wandering the grounds, stop by the Community Center tent.
UNDER THE CUT you will find all of the local Merrockites participating in Creek Fest, whether they are selling goods, or showing off a talent, as well as a list of performances through the week. Enjoy! xx

I will reblog your post + add it to the list here. I have also left open two spots on the performances that can be filled if you are interested, but you must send an ask to claim them. Again, however you represent your performance is up to you! Thanks, guys! xx

Anna Kristina Goransson is a Swedish sculptor working with felt.
Kristina spent her childhood in northern Sweden before moving to the United States in 1985. Art has always been a significant part of her life, helping her through not knowing English when she arrived in the states. Kristina entered more structured art making as an undergraduate at Rhode Island School of Design in 1994 where she received her BFA in Furniture. After graduating she spent two seasons at Anderson Ranch Arts Center assisting classes in the wood program before moving back to the East Coast.
Feeling ready for change, Kristina eventually went back to school for fiber arts at the University of Massachusetts and received her MFA in 2008. During graduate school, Kristina spent the first year exploring different textile techniques until she found felt. Discovering the possibilities that felting had to offer, she spent the rest of her time in graduate school creating felted and dyed sculpture.

Braiding a Future in Art with Paree Rohera
The Mumbai-born painter Paree Rohera grew up in a home where long hair symbolized beauty, each strand embodying the weight of tradition. Memories of her mother's intricate jewelry designs and ornate Indian wallpapers surrounding her lingered, informing the aesthetics of her present-day art. Sunday painting sessions with her family were a cherished ritual, shaping her childhood and profoundly influencing her approach to art. Now a senior at the Rhode Island School of Design, she has already distinguished herself through a workshop at the coveted Anderson Ranch Arts Center. In her work, Rohera seeks beauty in the “ugly,” uncovering the sublime within the overlooked corners of existence. A recent awardee of the Hopper Prize grant, she stands on the threshold of a new and exhilarating chapter, poised to explore the depths of her journey as an artist.
Excerpt from Paree Rohera’s interview for Impulse Magazine.

Opening Reception: Friday, May 17, 6:00-8:00PM
325 Project Space, 325 St Nicholas Ave Ridgewood, Queens, NY
Gallery Hours: Sat/Sun 12-5pm and by appt.
325 Project Space is pleased to present: Polymorphic Polka, an exhibition of sculpture by Leslie Fry. In addition to works in the main gallery, the exhibition will include a series of bronze works exhibited in our outdoor space. Works in the exhibition consist of cast hybrid forms as well as sculpted elements in ceramic, wood and resin.
Articulating connections between the natural and constructed world, Fry’s sculptures respond to architecture, history, the human form, and the flotsam of everyday life. Fry’s figures are typically female or hermaphrodite, of imaginary descent, and melded with elements to portray strength, shelter, and metamorphosis. The exhibition will also feature a series of stacked forms evoking connection, precariousness and the uncertainty of our present time. Fry’s masterful use of imagery and the sheer physicality of her materials provide a sensual and surreal experience.
325 Project Space is an unpredictably periodic exhibition and event space organized by Jeff Feld, @feldjeff, [email protected] and located at 325 St Nicholas Ave in Ridgewood Queens. The project space is one block from the Myrtle/Wycoff stop on the L or M subway lines, approximately 25 minutes from Union Square. Gallery hours are Sat/Sun 12-5pm and by appt.
Leslie Fry's sculptures, drawings, and prints have been exhibited internationally in museums and galleries such as Kunsthaus in Hamburg, Zwitscher Machine Gallery in Berlin, Hangaram Art Museum in Seoul, Windspiel Galerie in Vienna, Couvent des Cordeliers in Paris, deCordova Sculpture Park near Boston, Centre des Arts Visuels in Montreal, and Artists Space, Garvey Simon, and Wave Hill in New York.
Public sculptures have been commissioned in New York, South Korea, Montreal, Florida, Wisconsin, and Vermont. Public collections include Tufts University, Songchu International Sculpture Park, Freehand New York, Kohler Arts Center, Tampa Museum of Art, Fleming Museum of Art, Musée d’art de Joliette, and St. Petersburg, Florida’s Museum of Fine Arts.

Vik Muniz
Muniz was born 20th of December 1961 in São Paulo Brazil, now living and working in New York and Rio de Janeiro. Muniz is a Brazilian artist and photographer. He primarily works with unconventional materials such as tomato sauce, diamonds, magazine clippings, dust and dirt.
At 18 Muniz got his first job working in advertisement. Muniz travelled to Chicago in 1983, using money he had got after being accidentally shot in the leg. In Chicago he worked in a local shop while attending night school to study English.
Muniz was inspired by the work of Man Ray and Max ErnstHe decided to become an artist after seeing the post modernist work of Cindy Sherman and Jeff Koons. Muniz often says he doesn’t believe in originals but rather believes in individuality.
He attained awards such as the 2013 Crystal Award by the World Economic Forum. Davos-Klosters, Switzerland and the 2005 National Artist Award granted by the Anderson Ranch Arts Center, Aspen, Colorado.
Muniz created a giant installation paper boat, made of news clippings about migrant deaths. Deaths of perhaps 900 people in the Mediterranean, due to peoples ignorance towards migrants. He stated that ‘the project is a metaphor for a vessel, something that saves you, takes you from one place to another. It’s not a criticism; it’s a platform. Once you’ve seen it and you’ve thought about it, you might have the need to discuss it…’ this piece was Muniz response to the migrant death’s crisis at the time, a boat carrying migrants from Libya capsized leaving up to 360 people dead in October 2013. This is a 45 feet paper boat that sailed the canals.
For some Muniz’s Venice piece is not enough, a writer from the Guardian claims that the artist might be trivializing a tragic humanitarian and political crisis.
“Will it be a powerful or in any way adequate artistic response to this vile betrayal of common humanity? An interview with Muniz online suggests not,”
“Perhaps, in theory, it seemed reasonable to make a vaguely thought-provoking, ‘playful’ piece about migration,” “But now the scale of our cruelty, the true consequences of all the rhetoric that dehumanizes migrants, have become so lethally clear, surely art on such a theme should be less equivocal, more angry,” - Jonathan Jones (the guardian)

Tom Cruise’s Colorado Mountain Ranch
320-Acre Mountain Ranch Is For Sale, Colorado Real Estate, Retreat Property, Architecture Images

Tom Cruise’s Mountain Ranch
Tom Cruise’s 320-Acre Colorado Mountain Ranch Is For Sale!
Location: Colorado, USA

Stardom surged for Tom Cruise in 1983 when he was 19 and slid into the hallway in Risky Business. Now in his fourth decade as one of the world’s most successful and wealthy actors, Tom owns homes in Beverly Hills; Clearwater, Florida and a 320-acre ranch in Telluride, Colorado that he helped design and is now for sale at $39.5 million.
photo © Brett Schreckengost
The Telluride home holds a lot of history for Cruise. It is where he enjoyed time with his children and much of his marriage to Katie Holmes. It was also the location of his last major interview with Oprah, a follow-up to Tom’s exuberant couch-jumping episode with Oprah in 2005. Oprah was so taken with the Cruise ranch and its views that she later bought her own home nearby.
photo © Joshua Johnson
The first impression of Tom’s home driving up the mile-long driveway from the gated entrance is the staggering view of the mountains and valleys. Designed to take full advantage of the views, the 11,512-square-foot living space includes the 10,000-square-foot, four-bedroom main house and a three-bedroom guest house.
photo © Joshua Johnson
Blending in with its wooded surroundings, the structures are clad in rustic-bleached- cedar timbers and native stone with beamed ceilings and large expanses of glass. In addition to a large eat-in kitchen, living room and dining room that will seat a crowd, there is a gym, recreation room and library. Detached and in its own aspen grove is the charming guest house. Combined, there are a total of seven bedrooms and nine full baths.
photos © Brett Schreckengost
The grounds are equally impressive in all seasons. Outside is a sports court for tennis, basketball or ice hockey and a private trail system with access to and views of the 14,000-foot-high mountains in the distance with a private gate into the Uncompahgre National Forest. There are hiking and riding trails and both dirt bike and snowmobile tracks which thread throughout the 320 acres.

Telluride has long been a destination for celebrities who like to ski or just get away and chill from their high-octane professional lives and now is even more popular for second-home buyers during the pandemic. Other stars who also find Telluride to be a great getaway include Robert Redford, Jerry Seinfeld, and designer-to-the-stars Ralph Lauren.

As with most famous celebrities, Tom has claimed his share of the gossip pages whether it be over his marriages, children or film-role formulas. However, as the reviewers of his award-winning films agree, it doesn’t matter what he says or does or the latest gossip, Cruise is one of the few actors who can be cast in any film with any script and will likely take the film to the top of the box office ratings. Working around the constraints of Covid-19, Tom’s upcoming films are Top Gun: Maverick and Mission: Impossible 7. He is well known for taking risks for his films, even doing his own risky stunts. Rumor has it that he will be going up in Elon Musk’s Space-X rocket to the space station to film Mission: Impossible 7.

The listing agent for the Tom Cruise Telluride ranch is Dan Dockray of LIV Sotheby’s International Realty, Telluride, Colorado.

Ceramic plates by Wesley Anderegg.
"I have always been a people watcher. In the first grade I did not play with the other kids. I stood back and watched. And I have been watching ever since. I watch what people do and imagine what they might like to do.Life and society are such that we cannot always say and do what we like. However, in the imaginary world in which my ceramic people live, they can.At the dawn of mankind primitive peoples fashioned clay objects. They sculpted about what they knew and wanted. Pregnant women and animals were the hot topics of the day. I think of my work much the same way. Though the topics may be different I feel a link to those old people sitting around playing with this beautifully plastic material."-Wesley Anderegg
Wesley Anderegg was born in Phoenix Arizona in 1958. He earned a BS degree in geography from Arizona State University, where he began his education in ceramics. Subsequently, he studied ceramics at the Anderson Ranch Arts Center in Snowmass Village, Colorado and at the Archie Bray Foundation in Helena, Montana. He was a resident artist at both places.
Wesley’s exhibition history is impressive by almost any standard. Over the last 26 years, he has had 22 solo exhibitions, and participated in countless group exhibitions and art fairs all across the United States. In addition, his work has been featured in Lark Books’ highly successful catalogue series three times – “500 Ceramic Sculptures”, “500 Clay Figures” and “ The Best of 500 Ceramics”. His work has also been featured in “Confrontational Ceramics: The Artist as Social Critic” by Judith Schwartz, “A Potters Handbook” by Glenn Nelson and Richard Burkett, and “Handbuilt Ceramics” from Lark Books. His work has also appeared in “Ceramics Monthly” and “American Craft.”

Fan-Owned Legion M’s first self-published comic book was developed by an all-star female creative team in support of the “Girl With No Name” feature film currently in development
LOS ANGELES (March 12, 2019) – Fan-Owned Legion M announced today the presale launch of its first-ever comic book—“Girl With No Name”—on Kickstarter. The completed book introduces the universe of The Girl, and the campaign is giving fans an insider look into the development process for the “Girl With No Name” feature film franchise, which is being produced by Co-Op Entertainment’s Laura Ivey and directed by Co-Op’s Tanya Wexler (Hysteria), with Legion M serving as executive producer.
Comic book fans can learn more about the project and unique perks as well as purchase copies of the “Girl With No Name” book and special merchandise now at its official Kickstarter page. Supporters of the campaign will be invited to an exclusive virtual development meeting for the franchise’s feature film later this year. Co-produced with Co-Op Entertainment, and co-developed by Dave Elliott’s AtomekART, the “Girl With No Name” comic book was developed, produced and is being independently published by Legion M, led by Terri Lubaroff, the company’s COO and head of content.
“‘Girl With No Name’ will be an incredibly stylized feature film, in the vein of ‘300’ and ‘Sin City,’ so introducing its world through a comic book was a natural fit,” said ‘Girl With No Name’ director Tanya Wexler. “Fans are going to love the book and, as a director, I love the opportunity to bring them into the fold as we continue developing the film.”

“We love Kickstarter, and believe it was the perfect platform for engaging with some of the most passionate and creative comic book fans in the world,” said Terri Lubaroff, Legion M’s COO and head of content. “As a fan-owned entertainment company, we wanted to create a fully immersive opportunity for fans to dive into the ‘Girl With No Name’ universe by engaging with us during the development of the feature film. We’re able to do both through the project’s Kickstarter campaign.”
The brand-new Western revenge thriller comic book was entirely drawn by a group of all-star female artists, including Tula Lotay (cover/promotional poster), Dani Strips (interior art), Gloria Caeli (colors), and Annie Parkhouse (letters). Collectively, the artists have graced the pages of Image Comics “Supreme: Blue Rose” with Warren Ellis, and Si Spencer’s eight-part series “Bodies” (Lotay); “Fiends of the Eastern Front” and “Judge Anderson” for “2000 AD” comic magazine (Strips); as well as “Judge Dredd” for “2000 AD” and various Marvel, DC and Dark Horse series (Parkhouse).

“Girl With No Name” Synopsis
The birth of a gunslinger.
On the way to a new life on the frontier, a five-year-old GIRL’s parents are murdered by highwaymen. Orphaned, The Girl is taken in by her mysterious UNCLE, an ex-Confederate turned bounty hunter—not a man who ever wanted to raise a child. But The Girl demands he take her in because she knows that he is the man who will make her parents’ killers pay. And they will pay in blood. Every day, The Girl pushes her Uncle to go after the people who killed “ma and pa.” At the age of ten, her Uncle finally teaches her to shoot. Like him, The Girl is a natural sharpshooter…a crack shot. She has more natural talent with a gun than anyone he has ever seen. It scares the Uncle to think what could become of her if she joined the “killin’ trade.” As she grows the bond between them grows, and he begins to see her as his own daughter. But just when The Uncle is about to hang up his gun for good, a band of outlaws murders him and burns their ranch, leaving the Girl – now 18 – for dead in their burning house. But the Girl survives the fire and now, orphaned once again, has only one drive – vengeance. With no one willing to go after the outlaws, The Girl grabs her gun – taking justice into her own hands.

In 2008, a private collector[who?] in Massachusetts gathered more than 6,000 paint by number works going back to the 1950s from eBay and other American authorities to make the Paint By Number Museum, the world's biggest online file of paint by number works.[In May 2011, Dan Robbins and Palmer Paint Products, Inc., together created and conveyed to showcase another 60th-commemoration paint by number set.[9] This authorities' set was made in memory of the survivors and the individuals who had lost their lives on September 11, 2001, and portrays the Twin Towers remaining in soul over the Manhattan horizon. A portion[clarification needed] of the returns from this set is being given to the beneficent association Voices of September 11thBrowse through your neighborhood old fashioned shopping center and I'll wager you'll locate any number of vintage paint by numbers (PBN). When they were presented as a side interest for grown-ups during the 1950s, individuals from the compelling artwork network sneered. "Each man a Rembrandt?" Indeed!
Today, contemporary paint by numbers are acknowledged for their pastime esteem, while vintage pieces are looked for after for their kitsch and decorator appeal.Uma Anderson, owner at the online shop Dairyland Vintage on Etsy.com, is an eager purchaser, dealer, and gatherer of vintage paint by numbers. She discloses her appreciation for the "craftsmanship": "The magnificence of paint by numbers is, given the wide scope of topic, there is a counterpart for most any gathering or stylistic theme. Forest scenes and deer fit a provincial lodge stylistic layout, steeds for the farm look, flamingos for the mid century kitschers, ranch and peaceful scenes for the pitiful house society, etc… Dog and feline individuals can even gather depictions of their particular breed."
At the point when questioned about what topics are more prevalent than others (i.e., what moves and what doesn't), Uma says, "long story short, everything sells."She unveils one of the more dark (and higher evaluated) PBN subjects: "However not every's some tea, the paint by number bare is very looked for after.
"Dissimilar to the mass delivered canine, cat, and scene units which were painted by a whole age of maturing youthful specialists," she clarifies, "the bare canvases were made for the much smaller grown-up market. I need to envision that these naked packs were not presented with the standard paint by number charge at the nearby Woolworths, yet in increasingly concentrated pastime shops. From what I comprehend these units had no spread craftsmanship making advertising all the more a test.
Anderson proceeds, "At any rate, because of their irregularity, paint by number nudes get a high cost. As an authority, I claim three: two obtained on eBay quite a while back from venders who didn't have an inkling what they had, and a small scale found in a garbage shop here in Wisconsin. I as of late sold a copy of one in my gathering. It was an unframed canvas and I initially thought to ask $100, however ultimately chose to try the impossible and recorded it for $225. It sold in a week."Anderson says other famous topics that move well for her are deer, steeds and pooches. She says, by and large, scenes are slower dealers, however religious works of art are mainstream. In particular, the Virgin Mary moves best, and "Jesus is a nearby second."However," Anderson says, "The Last Supper is evidently a failure. The one in my Etsy shop has been sitting for a couple of years and has even sold once and was returned. I have two all the more simply like it that I haven't yet tried posting."
With regards to showing PBNs, Anderson says, "My own pieces are shown all through my home instead of a paint by number proclamation divider (however I cherish this look in different homes). I'd like to think they mix in by shading and subject in each room and don't overpower."
"As both an authority and a dealer, I never leave behind a paint by number while thrifting [except for muddled works of art clearly done by youthful children]." Vintage Paint By Number canvases are an amusing — and famous — midcentury current fine art. They are truly "tasteless" — anybody can complete one… But, they likewise interest us — there is something "basic" about their excellence and "vote based" about the reality they even exist. Basic, realistic — and rendered by a typical individual, similar to us!, some time ago when mass thriving was developing crosswise over America. They were… affectionately created… and therefore, they are anything but difficult to cherish, after 50 years. In the course of recent years, I've seen vintage PBNs turned out to be increasingly collectible. What's more, every so often, we see people get epic with the work of art and make their own Paint By Number wall paintings, which are pretty darn sweet. For this story, I found a few incredible assets itemizing the historical backdrop of Paint By Number artistic creations — including imperative social history… and we'll discuss how best to show paint by number workmanship. As a matter of fact, show tip #1 and just, IMHO: As Troy has finished with PBN hound gathering (above) — aggregate your PBNs for greatest impactThe history of Paint By Number Kits:
