Hi! 🎉 Could you write a fanfic with KK harvey? The song could be hurt my feelings by Tate McRae. Some tropes I had in mind are enemies to lovers, sports rivals, forced proximity. They could get all up in each other’s face on the ice and be so mad and play rough with each other and then confront each other in the locker room when everyone’s left and it ends up angsty with them getting all close again and LOTS! of teasing as well. IDK just an idea I had it would be lovely if you wrote it !!🙂↕️
HURT MY FEELINGS
SUMMARY: request!!! Reader plays for Minnesota and has a long running rivalry with Wisconsin player KK Harvey. (Brad Frost is Minnesota head coach)
WARNINGS: head injuries, fighting, slightly explicit
AN: kicking off the 500 celebration with a bang!! I hope this is everything you wanted and more 🫶
YOUR POV
Adrenaline pumped through your veins as the crowd seemingly got louder by the minute. You knew this game was going to be crowded, you just weren't expecting it to be this packed. Pressing your lips together, you looked at the girl positioned across from you. Blonde curls peaking out from the bottom of her helmet, the number four plastered across her back. You felt your adrenaline spike harder when she made eye contact with you again.
Glancing into the crowd, you immediately spotted her. Fling or girlfriend, you weren't sure, all you knew was that KK was fucking her. Wearing an official team jacket, you watched as she cheered from behind the glass. This only made your blood boil, you blamed it on your general hatred of the girl. You readjusted your grip on your stick before the whistle blew.
Brad always told you that you don't have to prove anything to anyone. That you “play best when you’re unattached.” However, Brad has never had a long running rivalry with someone who always gets to be the good guy in the eyes of the media. He also has never had multitudes of fan edits made about the “sexual tension” between him and his rival during the last game they played together. Brad is not rivals with KK Harvey.
So you took Brads words in one ear and out the other. Every other game this season, you swore to yourself that you would keep your emotions under wrap. Play as the machine you were scouted to be. The quick, calculated, and cold player the media raved over in articles. However, today was different, and it barely counted anyways. Just another pre-season game.
The puck went to Wisconsin first. The first period was mainly uneventful. You avoided KK, letting the rage simmer in your stomach. However you could feel your disposition slipping as you entered the second period. This girl Claire had been all over you. Constantly bumping and trailing you, giving you no space, you let it slide during the first period. But with Wisconsin pulling ahead at the start of the second, your patience was wearing thin.
You could tell Brad wasn’t pleased with your perfromamce this game either, especially this period. Changing plays last minute, pulling dramatic stunts to try and dirch Claire. He knew you weren't playing how he wanted, you knew you were benched if you didn’t close the growing point gap.
You rocketed down the ice, keeping the puck close to you before firing it to your center Taylor. A perfect pass, you watched as she fired it into the net. A perfect goal. Brad would like that. You kept your speed, as you went to circle behind the net.
The collision was hard. You heard it before you felt it. Claire had come fast from the other side of the net, smashing you into the boards. Your head hit the plexiglass hard. Crumbling to the ground you landed on all fours, your vision blurred as you felt hot blood stream out of your nose.
The arena silenced at the blow of the whistle. Claire stood frozen in front of you. You stood fast, dropping you stick, before ramming your fist against her face cage.
Immediately everything swarmed. The crowd was on their feet, yelling anything and everything. KK was immediately on you, roughly pulling you off Claire as you yelled at her. “Dont fucking touch me Harvey!” she glared at you hard, her grip softend slightly as she steered you away. “You always need to be the Godamn hero! You just can't- stop, I said don't fucking touch me!!” You squirmed out of her grip, knocking her hands away. Blood dripped of your chin onto the ice as Maggie immediately came between you two. Her mouth was moving but you couldn't hear a thing she was saying, tears brimmed in your eyes as you suddenly felt all the air leave your lungs.
Crumbling into Maggie, your head pounded as she helped you off the ice. You spent the rest of the game in the health office with the lights off.
We lost by two points.
Stepping into your team lockeroom, you were met with a freshly showered and clothed KK Harvey. Clad in loose grey sweats and a black nike sports bra, she sat on the bench across from the door like she was expecting you. Her hair was still wet from the shower and she had a look on her face that you assumed was irritation.
"Oh hell no," you muttered under your breath as you immediately turned to leave, pulling the door handle. To your dismay, the door did not open. "What the fuck did you do to the door Harvey?" You pulled harder at the door which did not open. “I didn't do shit to the door, you were the last one who touched it!” you groaned closing your eyes.
“Why are you even in here? Shouldn't you be out with you team? And your girlfriend?” She was quiet, just watching you as you stated back at her. “What? You want an apology or something?” She slumped over letting her head fall into her hands
“Is the door really not opening?” You rolled your eyes at her, “what do you think?” “You don't have to be such a bitch you know? I was only here in the first place to make sure you were okay-”
“Since when have you cared about my health?” “Can you not fucking interrupt me. Please.” “Oh my god I'm going to kill myself. You are so stuck up!” You stood up, walking towards her. “When was the last time you didn't get exactly what you want? You have the media, the fans, fucking everyone, wrapped around your finger. I'm SO sick of it!” She immediately stood up to meet you, stepping just a bit too close for an argument. The height difference left you slightly craning your neck to look up at her. She was silent for a moment.
“How bad is your head?”
“...Feels like its going to explode.”
You were silent again. You looked over her shoulder refusing to look her in the eye, but you could feel her blue eyes tracing your face.
“I’m not sorry.”
“I know.”
You flicked your eyes up to hers. Neither of you stepped away, clinging to whatever remained between you.
“Want me to turn the light off?”
You swallowed hard, “Yeah, please.”
As she flicked the light off, you collapsed against the couch. KK gingerly sat on the opposite edge.
“I’m sorry the media isn’t nice to you.” Once again you found yourself wanting to poke her eyes out. “KK that's not your fault-” you paused. The nickname slipped out a little too easily. You had never called her anything besides Harvey. You could feel her looking at you in the dark room, you knew what face she was making too.
"I know its not my fault, but I've had opportunities to say something to make it better and I haven't. You are my biggest competitor on the ice, you always play a tough game. But that dosen't mean I hate you or that you're a mean person...You're mean or cruel, I know your not."
You were quiet for a moment. "I'm just so tired of everything." You wanted to die as soon as you heard your voice tremble. To be fair you had kept the tears in through the whole incident and through your long discussion with coach after the game. You were planning on crying when you got back to your dorm. Crying infront of KK was a low. Desperately you looked up, pressing the heels of your hands into your eyes.
You felt her scooch down the couch to sit next to you. Gently, she grabbed your wrists as you let her pull them away from your face. "Don't do that you're going to make your head worse." She didn't let go as she softly held your wrists, her eyes surveying your bruised hands. Letting your head lull to the side, you could make out the faint outline of her face, the curve of her nose, and the glint in her eyes.
“Sorry.”
"Don’t be.”
She slowly runs her thumb over your forearm, her eyes tracing the veins in your left arm. You watched her face as you softly tucked a stray piece of wet hair behind her ear with your other hand. She peered up at you.
“I really want to kiss you right now.”
You felt the butterflies in your stomach explode at her words. Climbing into your throat and clouding your brain.
“Yeah?”
“-and I know I can't because you're obviouly concussed and you've had a long day and I-”
Her words trailed off as you cupped her cheek with your right hand. Tracing your thumb under her eye.
Gently, she pulled you closer to her. Your knees connecting with hers. You both lingered for a moment, just a breath away from changing everything.
She kissed you like she loved you. Soft and sweet, nothing mattered at all except for her lips and her hands still holding your wrist. Gradually she pulled you ontop of her and you slowly pushed her into the couch.
Propping yourself up on your elbows, you pulled away. Her eyes raked over your face like she was trying to commit it all to memory. “God you're so fucking pretty” you slowly made your way to her neck, sucking purple marks into the exposed skin. She hummed at your actions, dropping her head to the side, her cheeks dusted a light pink. You settled your head on her chest letting your eyed droop shut.
“I wish we talked more.” your voice came out as almost a whisper. You felt her place a kiss on your head as she responded, “lets talk tomorrow okay?”
“Nothings gonna change, you know? I really like you Caroline.”
“I know baby, I know.”
“G’night Caro.”
You fell asleep as she gently traced patters on your back and she followed soon after.

Touch My Butt
Pairing: Jake Jensen x reader one-shot
Summary: Dating Jake is great, he’s such a gentleman
Word count: 1,506
Content/warnings: mostly fluff, is this what a meet-cute is?, allusions to smut if you squint, the lightest thigh grinding, adorkable awkward Jake, accidental pervy statements, butt-touching, I don’t think I used any pronouns (aka gn!reader), no use of Y/N
A/N: I’ve been wanting to write this for awhile, and it’s one of those things that came out pretty much exactly how I had it in my head, so that makes me really happy.
Who doesn’t love a hot nerd who doesn’t know he’s hot??
Comments, likes, reblogs, and asks are so appreciated. Thank you for reading!!

Main Masterlist
You and Jake had been going out for nearly a couple of months now. You had met originally at a coffee shop where he had complimented your pants, standing behind you as you both were waiting for your drinks.
“Hey, I really like your pants. So many pockets. And the buttons are really cool on the back ones, here.”
You slowly turned around, eyes trailing up from a slim waist to a broad chest, and eventually a pair of blue eyes, tucked behind glasses, just as they started to go wide with realization at what he had said.
“Oh my gosh, I-uh, not that I was looking at your back pockets on purpose, I mean- I didn’t mean to look at your butt at all- not at you at all”
His cheeks began to tinge red and his gaze was glued to the floor, scared to look back up at your eyes, worried for the confrontation that could come from his awkwardness and inability to read the room. His buff arm was rubbing the back of his neck, bicep bulging as you dipped your head in an attempt to meet his gaze.
You instantly giggled “It’s okay. I think I know what you’re trying to say. Thank you for the compliment, I really like these pants, too.”
You turned back around before you got the chance to embarrass yourself in front of the hot, dorky stranger just as your name was called. You grabbed your drink, turned and winked at him, and left to continue the errands on your list, heading to the grocery store.
You were making your way through the produce aisles, figuring out which fruits and vegetables would be best for your meals for the next couple weeks when your eyes landed on the sign for an amazing deal on peaches.
You pushed your cart towards the display and grabbed a bag, examining for varying degrees of ripeness so you could have some sooner, and others wouldn’t peak until next week. Just then you heard the stray squeaky wheel of a cart stop behind you, thinking it was just another shopper going about their business until you heard a familiar voice.
“That’s a nice peach. You like peaches? Wait! No- I, uh, that wasn’t supposed to come out so creepy like that.”
You did your best to suppress a laugh as you paused your produce search and whipped around to see the man from the coffee shop bent at the waist with his head in his hands resting on the handle of his grocery cart. His frosted tips the only thing left on display to you.
“So, uh, is all you’re capable of doing…making allusions to my ass?”
From behind his hands, you heard a muffled “no” before he wiped his palms down his face and looked at you sheepishly. “I don’t know why that keeps happening. I really just wanted to start a conversation with you. And I promise I’m not stalking you either, I’m just out running errands today.”
“Wow, you really know how to convince a girl you’re not an axe murderer, that’s for sure.” Your eyebrows raised, but there was still a smile on your face. You believed him. He seemed genuine.
“I promise I’m not! And I promise I’ll never talk about your butt again” He bursted out, hopeful that he wasn’t blowing this. “Can I, um prove it to you? Over coffee? I mean- n-not now, obviously, you’ve still got your cup-”
“Yes.” In an attempt to save him from his adorable rambling you interjected. “Yes, I’d like to see you again, sure. In a more planned manner. But how about dinner? Tomorrow night?”
“Oh, yes, that’s perfect.” You watched as he stood up taller, shoulders back in a new-found cockiness, and grabbed a peach off the display. He tossed it up in the air and caught it in his hand a few times before you cleared your throat gently to get his attention again.
“So do you want to exchange numbers? So we can figure out the details later?” He went to reach for his phone, losing focus on the peach and fumbling it, grasping as it fell out of reach and you both watched it splat at his feet almost in slow motion.
He bent down and picked it up, placing the newly lopsided peach in his cart. “I, uh, I’ll pay for that.” He rubbed his neck again in embarrassment and looked down, scared to make eye contact. Sensing his nervousness to take another step and mess up again, you softly grabbed the phone from his hands and replaced it with your own. The two of you put your contacts into the other’s phone and handed them back.
“Ah, well, it’s nice to meet you officially,” you looked down at the new contact “…Jake. I’ll message you soon.” He was speechless and still red with embarrassment, so he just stood there and waved with a grin on his face as you left the produce and made your way to the frozens.
Dinner with Jake was great once the two of you had loosened up a little. Conversation flowed easily and you were caught up in his charm that you were sure he didn’t even know he had. This led to another date later in the week at the science center, followed by three other dates the next week, until the two of you were at one another’s apartments each night of the following.
You truly enjoyed spending time together, but you could tell Jake was trying to keep some respectful distance. He’d hold your hand when you walked or drove together, or occasionally put his hand on the small of your back, but it rarely went past that, besides the occasional times where you’d smack his butt and he’d look at you with a playful warning glare. You couldn’t help yourself, it was just so plump. It didn’t necessarily seem to go the other way, though. The one time the two of you had come close to having a heated make out session, he left his hands on your waist while yours roamed through his hair. He did look delicious with it all messed up, though, pairing well with his fogged up, crooked glasses.
Besides that, he would sit on the opposite side of your small 3-seater couch from you, allowing your legs to be tangled, and not much more. That’s what was going on tonight. It was Friday and Jake had come over for a movie marathon. You hoped this would lead to being closer to him, but he seemed enthralled with what was on the screen.
You had gotten up to get snacks, and when you came back, you plopped yourself down right next to Jake, hip to hip. He didn’t seem to mind at all. Maybe he was just trying to do everything on your terms? You snuggled up against him, lifting his arm and placing it over your shoulder, and he let you, for the rest of the movie.
Once the credits began to roll, he groggily stretched and you looked over your shoulder and up at him through your eyelashes. He smirked back down at you. Oh man, how he loved that look. He leaned down do give you a peck. This was your opportunity to push it a little farther, so you shifted to straddle his thigh.
“Is this ok?” He looked up at you in response as his hands gravitated to your waist.
“Yeah, baby. It’s perfect. You’re perfect.”
You placed a hand on his cheek. “If I’m so perfect, why don’t you touch me ever?”
He looked back at you intently, eyebrows furrowed. “What are you talking about? I’m touching you right now.”
You giggled and rolled your eyes playfully. “Yeah, respectfully. You always touch me respectfully.”
His cheeks tinged pink. “Yeah, uh, I want you to know I respect you. And that I’m not trying to sexualize you, especially after my accidental pervy statements when we first met.”
You smiled and shook your head at him, leaning down so your foreheads met as you squeezed his cheeks softly. “And I appreciate that, I really do. You’ve been nothing but a gentleman and I see the reverence in your gaze. I hope you see it in mine, too… And how many times do I have to tell you? I didn’t really think you were a perv” you giggled quietly, still meeting his gaze, “I found it endearing.”
You sat back up and lowered your hands to grab his wrists, guiding his palms to snake around your back and down lower over the back pockets of your jeans.
“And I want you to know, it’s okay to sexualize me a little bit. Touch. My. Butt.” You punctuated with pecks, before leaning in and kissing him hard. He returned the passion with a moan, kneading where you had placed his hands and you ground against him as your hands moved back up to tousle his hair.
*screech* I love Jakey. Thank you for reading

AU: Journey to Redemption (Part 5)
The Storm Within
Coriolanus Snow x Fem!reader
First Part. / The Winter Ball / Champagne Problems / Frost and Thorns / The Storm Within
Summary: Y/N, a young idealist in Panem, dreams of making a difference in a post-war society. As the winner of the prestigious Plinth Prize is about to be announced, a mysterious woman unveils a grim fate for Coriolanus Snow, Y/N's nemesis. Offered a chance to alter destiny, Y/N must navigate her conflicting emotions and intervene in pivotal moments to prevent Snow's descent into darkness. The story unfolds against the backdrop of complex relationships, past connections, and the challenges of a changing world, as Y/N grapples with the responsibility of shaping an unexpected destiny and challenging the very fabric of fate.
Warning(s): None, enemy to lovers, back in time, destiny, Snow being in love, Snow being Snow, possible grammar and spelling mistakes
A/N: I'm on Wattpad now too, click here to read and vote there: WATTPAD
Y/N was furious; each accelerated beat of her heart echoed her indignation. The news of betting on tributes, Arachne being beheaded on camera, the snakebites on Clemensia, and the final blow was the information that they had bombed the arena with Coriolanus inside. Determined to confront Coriolanus, she relentlessly sought him, even reaching the boy's apartment, a place she had never visited before.
The boy opened the door with wet hair, his chest still exposed with bandages. Y/N couldn't help but notice, especially because Snow was much taller than her. His hair dripped, and droplets ran down his torso. She couldn't help but notice his imposing height and the sight of his wet body. That only made her angrier because, despite everything, he still exerted some kind of attraction over her.
"I've been looking for you," Y/N exclaimed, her voice laden with anger.
"I just came back from the hospital, I'm alive," Coriolanus spoke as if everything were under control, trying to maintain composure but failing to completely hide his anxiety. "I'm getting ready to see Lucy Gray shortly. If you could excuse me…" He was about to close the door when Y/N stopped him, entering his apartment.
Without hesitation, Y/N lunged at Coriolanus, her weak blows against his chest unable to affect the boy but revealing the intensity of her frustration. His warm skin matched Y/N's fury.
"You idiot!" Tears glistened in her eyes. "I can't believe you have the nerve to tell me this! Arachne is dead, Clemensia is poisoned, and when I saw the explosion live, I thought the worst had happened. And you dare to keep thinking about the games? You have no soul?" She was furious with the boy. "Why do you still participate in this?" Y/N demanded, her voice laden with disappointment.
Coriolanus laughed in denial, spitting out words full of resentment. "Y/N, I'm not Sejanus, okay? I know you wanted me to be, and I would too, but I'm not. Arachne is dead, Clemensia is poisoned, and Lucy Gray… well, that's another horrible story. I doubt she'll make it to the Games, and maybe it's even better."
"I don't want you to be like him, Coriolanus. In fact, I don't know why you have this fixation on the boy. He's lost, he's afraid just like you."
"If you came here to talk about him, Y/N, you can leave." He pointed to the door.
"You need to get over this one-sided rivalry with him, Coriolanus."
"Sejanus usurped my position, inheritance, clothes, food, and the privilege due to a Snow. Now he's trying to take my apartment, my place at the University, my own future, and had the audacity to resent his luck in getting the best tribute. I even believe he wants to date you." This thought he had never shared with anyone. It was very intimate.
Y/N was astounded, shocked by the information spilled by the boy. Despite having the height and appearance of a man, he had feelings as petty and low as a child.
"Corio, I know you've never shared this with anyone. But these thoughts and this anxiety don't suit you. I won't judge how you feel, but I want to reassure you that these feelings are unfounded. You need to think better, calmly. About what is real or not."
"Stop with the therapy, Y/N. You're making me feel like garbage." The boy tried in every way to avoid the girl's gaze.
"Maybe because you're acting like a jerk."
"You just assaulted me, came to my house to hit me, and you're still offending me with words. I could call the police." My God, this boy was 10 years old.
"Darling, I used all my strength, and you didn't even feel it." He laughed for a moment, but soon his serious demeanor returned. "If I wanted something with Sejanus, I would have had it already. Also, because I'm single." She spoke sincerely, showing her hand with no ring. "But I don't like him that way." The girl approached him.
"Don't go, I don't know what to do for you not to go." She felt a tightness in her chest, and tears returned to illuminate her eyes. "You can't win the Games, Coriolanus. You can't."
He was afraid, didn't know who he could trust. He could have been stung if Clemensia had written the proposal in his place, and if Lucy Gray hadn't come back to help, he would have died in the arena fire. He hid his head in his hands, confused, angry, and, more than anything, afraid. Afraid of Dr. Gaul. Afraid of the Capitol. Afraid of everything. If the people who should protect him played so easily with his life, how was it possible to survive? Not by trusting them, that was for sure. And if you couldn't trust them, who could you trust? Impossible to know.
"Don't you see, Y/N? Lucy Gray saved my life, and I need to help her win. She needs me. My family needs me. This is an opportunity for us, a chance to get out of this difficult life. I can't ignore that." For the first time, real emotions appeared on Coriolanus's face, as if he were, indeed, fearing the consequences of his actions.
Coriolanus ran his hand through his blond hair, frustrated. "I can't change the system alone. But maybe, if I'm in there, close to the power, I can make a difference. I can change things."
"Promise me that when you win the games, you'll protect Sejanus. Please. Promise me."
The boy was confused; what did Sejanus have to do with the story?
"It seems like you're sure I'm going to win the games," he said irritably. "Because you're so concerned about Sejanus? Doesn't my life matter?" It was never about him, Coryo.
"The problem, Coryo, is that you were the only person who appeared in all the visions, alive, well. Not Sejanus, not me, not even Lucy Gray. It was never about Sejanus, it was about you. I don't want you to become someone despicable." Y/N thought.
"I trust in your ability to survive; you're a Snow above all else. Sejanus is your friend; there has never been a reason to worry about him. Don't think of him as your rival; think of him as a loyal friend." Y/N was so close to the boy she could smell the roses and mint from his toothpaste. "I don't want to lose you, Coryo." She rested her forehead against his. "It's not about Sejanus; it's about you. It has always been about you." Her lips touched his. This kiss was more urgent, like a last kiss. It seemed that both would waste time if they stopped to breathe. Coryo's large hands guided the kiss, and their bodies pressed together as if struggling to be in the same place. Y/N placed her hands on the boy's bare chest and could feel his heart beating at an impossible speed. She didn't want to stop the kiss, didn't want to leave, didn't want to let him go. She wanted to keep him there forever. With her.
Coryo gradually guided Y/N to the sofa, lying on top of her. The kiss was more than just a meeting of lips; it was a fusion of souls, a desperate search for comfort amid the chaos. He didn't intend to do anything beyond the kiss, but he wanted more and more. The girl messed up Coryo's hair with her fingers and made sounds of approval during the kiss. It was as if the two of them fit together like two pieces in a puzzle.
Y/N's body was on fire. Coryo didn't even remember there was a war outside. He could only think about how small and defenseless the girl seemed in his arms, completely surrendered to him.
"You're mine," he whispered in her ear, making her whole body shiver.
"Come back to me, Coryo. Fight, struggle, but in the end, come back to me."
With another kiss, Coriolanus silenced Y/N, and after a few seconds, they separated. Y/N returned to her apartment, hoping that her words and the heat of the moment had touched Coriolanus, prompting a profound reflection on his actions and choices.

Hello hi- back to my shenanigans again (the one with the fake dating + lobby portal + frozen half the pentagram surely not an OC ahahah anonymous asker) - anyway- heres some MORE angst.
Reader's past lover- died waaay before reader back in their teens because readers mother found out about their not so heterosexual relationship and decided to shoot them both but only killed one- reader escaping and killing her mom in return (let’s name her Charlotte- with mane wolf features- so wolf+fox+deer features a combination! ) and barely moved on after meeting Alastor like years later, yet still haunted by Charlottes dead eyes reader saw when she woke up from some sleepy poison. Now Charlotte is in heaven and reader in hell alongside their radio-lover lover!
Yet somehow- maybe though a very uncanonical accurate meeting where angels go down to see the new hotel after hearing sinners can get redeemed Charlotte (not to be confused with Charlie) is one of said angels and suddenly all those waves of emotions come rushing back and reader can do nothing but stare.
but oh wait! Angels/Winner dont remember their past life so reader goes to her- and shes just “Oh hello! Whats your name? :3” (shes an angel and loves the stars and plants and everything nice can do no wrong) “I-… I guess you dont know me in this lifetime” (AND DOESNT TELL HER THEYVE MET BEFORE because what good would that bring?)
But alastor is also there lurking in the back. watching them- he knew someone was in readers life before him but reader never said more than that. Will readers feelings for Charlotte come back? Will reader stay to the infatuation of murderous acts that Alastor bought them? Will reader choose the pure love that might not spring again?
The infamous blizzard demon overlord! that never dropped their mask around others that always seemed to have the upper hand in any situation, the cold- charismatic- brutal and ruthless overlord- suddenly speechless at the reappearance of someone they used to know. How will everyone react?! “Sweet as a pea, but sharp as a knife- now shocked like the stars have fallen”
GAAAH MY BRAIN IS TOO BIG ANF FULL OF ANGST!!!!! Heres some kisses too: maybe next fic its me x you pookie 😘😘🥰🥰😘😘😘😘
A/N What a wild way to close off a request, I honestly got so much respect for that. I don't do OCs but for the sign off comment, I'll make an exception. Also I am assuming you want this as a part two to Frostbite because she's still a blizzard demon?? Apologies in advance if I got that wrong. Also,, not you quoting something else I've written in your request. That's crazy, thank you so much for the love.
Day Lilies (Alastor x Blizzard demon!Reader x Angel!OC)
Pairing: Alastor x Reader
Part One: Frostbite (Alastor x Reader)
Warnings: Homophobia (from other people and internalized) and murder. Smoking/cigarettes and angst. Always angst. I think that is it, please correct me if I am wrong.

The best thing about the Hazbin Hotel, according to some, was the fact that not one but two overlords who had found a home there. The Radio Demon and the Frost. Feared, revered, respected, and making an appearance for the first time in seven long years.
Without Alastor and Y/n's help, Charlie would not have been able to achieve all she had and she was eternally grateful to the pair, even if they were a tad confrontational and violent at times. Deeply in love, indebted to one another in a billion and five different ways, Alastor and Y/n had worked hard for their life in the underworld. As the angel stepped gently out of the portal, following her superior, Y/n felt the pressure of that life as it began to crash down around her.
When Charlie had struck the deal with Heaven to have an angel come down to the hotel to track its progress and assess if any of its inhabitants were worthy of redemption, Y/n had thought nothing of it. Sure, it was a bit irritating but if anything, the deal seemed ripe for entertainment and thats really all she and Alastor were after at the end of the day. She had figured the angel would be some low ranking nobody. She had thought it would be amusing, that they would torture the poor creature, that things would stay roughly the same. Never in her wildest dreams had the notion ever crossed Y/n's mind that the angel might be Charlotte.
Of course, Y/n had known Charlotte must be in Heaven. The girl had always been so kind, so good to her very core. It had just all seemed so far away and now, somehow, there she was, peeking timidly out from behind the seraphim's back.
Charlotte looked different, having taken on some animalistic, wolfish features since her death. Sharp ears sprouted from the untamed mess of her hair, fangs peeked their way out from the corners of her lips but Y/n was sure. It was Charlotte. It was all in the eyes.
"Welcome, Sera." Charlie politely began, taking a step forward.
Normally, such a show of self restraint from the young demon princess would have caused curiosity to spark a fire in Y/n's chest. Now, she just stood beside Angel as Charlie had requested, eyes wide and mind reeling.
"Is this who we will be working with?"
Sera looked at the shy wolf of a girl behind her and nodded her head, gesturing for the girl to step forward.
"Yes." she replied, her voice cold and haughty, "This is Charlotte, she has been with us for a while and we trust her judgment on matters such as this."
"Oh how funny!" Charlie brightly exclaimed, "My full name is Charlotte too but, I go by Charlie. Do you have a nickname you'd prefer?"
"Just Charlotte is fine." the angel softly replied and Y/n's breath caught in her throat.
The girls voice was honeysuckle, it was sticky sweet teen love.
"Why her?" Husk asked and Charlie shot him a glare, "She just seems a little..."
Sera laughed lightly, a caring smile sneaking on to her face.
"She's a little shy, but she is smart. Even when she was alive, she had an ability to read people, to see right through to the essence of their beings."
Charlotte blushed slightly at the compliment, turning away.
The southern sun beat down over head, long grass whipping at their legs as Charlotte, running, dragged Y/n to the center of the field.
"Lottie!" Y/n exclaimed, half laughing, "Where on earth are you taking me?"
Charlotte glanced back at her companion, a mischievous smirk painting her lips that sent bolts of red hot fire through to Y/n's fingertips.
"You'll see."
After a few more paces, they came to a panting halt. Charlotte turned to Y/n, placing a hand gently over the other girl's eyes. With a guiding hand, she lead the blinded girl to a spot a little ways off where she had snuck off to earlier and set up a picnic. There was fresh fruit, Georgia peaches from her family's own orchard, and home made lemonade. Slowly, Charlotte gifted Y/n with sight.
Y/n's mouth fell slightly open as she surveyed the scene before her. Sixteen and in love, she turned to Charlotte, taking both the girl's hands in her own.
"When... how..."
"I know things have been rough at home lately. I wanted to do something to make you smile."
"How did you know? I never..." Y/n cleared her throat, "I never said anything... I nev-"
"You didn't have to. I know you, love. You never have to say a word."
Alastor watched his lover silently from the other side of the group. Charlie had insisted they flank the guests, dragging Y/n away from his side just as the portal had opened. She didn't show it, not obviously, but he knew something was wrong. From the second the portal had opened and the angels had stepped through, she had gone tense, her eyes fixed on the one called Charlotte, the tips of her frostbite blackened fingers tapped against one another in wild thought.
"Well," Sera sighed, looking around at the ragtag group of sinners and demons, "I had best be on my way. I will be back in a few days to pick Charlotte up, please be kind to her over the course of her stay."
With those parting words and a reassuring pat on the angel's shoulder, Sera stepped back through the portal which closed behind her.
"Well," Charlie began brightly, clapping her hands together, "let's do introductions! I am Charlie Morningstar and I run the Hazbin Hotel with my girlfriend, Vaggie."
Vaggie sent Charlotte a wave which she timidly returned. With a deep breath, Charlotte stepped towards the line of sinners before her.
"Alastor." Alastor hummed, grabbing Charlottes hand and shaking it harshly, "A pleasure to be meeting you my dear, quite the pleasure."
It struck Charlie as a bit odd he said and did nothing else but, she made no mention of it. In her mind, Alastor was simply on his best behavior as requested. In reality, he was far too focused on the way a slight flurry of snow had begun to settle on Y/n's sharp shoulders.
"Nice to meet you too." Charlotte replied, extracting her hand from his grip and moving down the line.
Y/n's heart pounded wildly against her chest as Charlotte grew closer. Her tail twitched behind her, flicking back and forth gently, and her breaths grew slightly heavy. Although he noticed the odd behavior, it was impossible not to from his place beside her, Angel said nothing. At long last, Charlotte came to a stop before her.
"Disgusting!" Y/n's mother's voice rang out through the yard, "You are both complete and utter disgraces!"
They hadn't meant to be found out. As far as Y/n's mother had known, Y/n and Charlotte were best friends. Charlotte had come over to help Y/n with her chores, they had been doing laundry out in the yard when Charlotte had playfully flicked water towards her beloved. One thing had lead to another and before long, they had been wrapped up in one another, planting a singular, soft kiss on each other's lips. Y/n felt Charlotte's hand tighten around her own, she took a step forward.
"Don't you dare speak to her that way!" Y/n yelled back, anger burning brightly in her eyes and adrenaline shaking her limbs with wild courage, "Don't you dare!"
Her mother scoffed, crossing her arms over her chest.
"She is a bad influence on you! The devil sent to curse me!"
Y/n's mother stepped forward, grabbing Y/n and wrenching her from Charlotte's grip. Charlotte tugged at Y/n's mother's dress as she dragged her girlfriend harshly into the small house.
"Let her go!" Charlotte cried, "Stop it! We weren't doing anything wrong!"
With a harsh slap to her face, Charlotte was sent to the ground. Her mother threw Y/n through the door, the unfinished wood of the floor sending splinters deep into Y/n's knees as she struggled to get to her feet. Her head had hit the corner of the table in her fall, the world was spinning. Y/n's mother grabbed the shot gun from where it lay beside the door. Just as Y/n managed to stumble to her feet, holding her swaying body up with a hand on the table she had hit, her mother stepped outside and slammed the door behind her, locking it.
Y/n rushed over, trying desperately to wrench it open to no avail. The anger had turned to panic as she heard her mother cock the gun.
"What are you doing!" she heard Charlotte yell and Y/n rushed to the window.
From her vantage point, Y/n watched her mother train the gun on Charlotte who had her hands raised and was stumbling backwards.
"Run!" she yelled, banging her fists on the glass, "Lottie, run!"
"Please." Charlotte was pleading, tears wetting her cheeks, "I promise I wont ever come here again, I wont ever come near her again. Please!"
"Lottie!" Y/n yelled again.
With no regard for her own safety, Y/n punched the glass of the window. The pane shattered around her hand, puncturing her soft skin. Blood, hot and wet, ran down her arm as she pulled her hand back to her side.
"Yeah, you sure as hell wont!" Y/n's mother yelled, her voice thick and low with rage, "You'll be dead!"
Y/n flung her leg over the window sill, shards of glass digging into her as she pulled herself through the hole she had created.
"Lottie!" she yelled again, "Run!"
Her screams were drowned out by the sound of a gunshot. Charlotte held her hands to her stomach, blood pouring from between her fingers. Their eyes met.
"Lottie!"
"And you are?" Charlotte asked expectently.
Y/n shook her head slightly, pulling herself from the depths of her memories. Everyone was staring at her, she had no idea how long the angel had been standing before her. She cleared her throat.
Alastor didn't know what was going on but, whatever it was, he knew he didn't like it. Using his shadows, he appeared behind Y/n and placed a protective hand on the top of her head between her horns. Her hair was damp from freshly fallen snow and Charlotte gasped slightly in surprise at his appearance.
"My dear," he grinned, leaning down to Y/n's ear, "you're snowing."
"I..."
Y/n looked up, her cheeks flushing pink and the heart on the tip of her tail puffing up as she realized what he said.
"O-oh." she stuttered, brushing his hand from her head and the snow from her shoulders as she regained control of her powers again, "I'm sorry, I don't know what came over me."
The other members of the hotel watched in a mixture of shock and confusion. They had always known Y/n to be cold, to be harsh. They had always seen her devotion to the man behind her as infallible. No one had any idea what was going on but, the presence of the angel stopped them all in their tracks.
"It's quite all right, what's your name?" Charlotte asked again, her voice honey sweet.
Y/n took a deep breath, morphing her features into the closest thing to a kind smile she could muster.
"Y/n." she firmly replied, "I'm Y/n."
Her eyes scanned Charlotte's face intently as their hands made contact. She waited for the shock of recognition, for the tears her Lottie had always been so prone to. There was nothing.
"That's a very pretty name." Charlotte replied, "It sounds like it is from the same era as mine."
That raised some small hope in Y/n's chest. She took a step forward, bringing herself closer to the angel.
"Which is?"
"Oh, I don't know." Charlotte replied, her cheeks flushing pink with embarrassment, "Angels don't get to remember their lives on earth unless they are pretty high in the ranks. I've been told I was from Georgia though, that I died in the early 1900s."
Y/n froze, her breath trapped in her chest, a knife buried deep within her heart.
"Oh." she mumbled out in a broken whisper, "I guess you... you don't know me in this lifetime."
"What was that?" Charlotte asked, leaning in a bit.
Y/n shook her head, letting go of Charlotte's hand.
"Nothing. I... I need some fresh air, I think. If you would all excuse me."
It didn't take Alastor long to find Y/n once Charlie had let him return to his duties in favor of showing Charlotte around the hotel. She stood out in back of the hotel, her back pressed firmly against the wall and a cigarette crushed between her fingers. Shakily, she took a drag.
"What was that about?" Alastor asked, leaning up against the wall beside her and folding his arms across his chest.
"What was what about." Y/n cooly replied.
"Y/n, don't play dumb."
"I knew her back when we were alive, thats all."
"Is that all?" Alastor asked after a moment, "You seemed..."
He trailed off. Alastor was angry. He had always been the jealous type, protective to a fault. He could see how shaken up Y/n was however and so, running a finger over the ring he wore, Alastor took a deep breath.
"That angel, Charlotte..." her name lingered poisonously on his tongue, "it seemed there was something a lot more than just you knowing her."
"I picked these for you." Y/n bashfully stated, shoving a bouquet tied with a rough bit of twine towards the pretty girl beside her, "Here."
Tentatively, Charlotte took the bouquet from Y/n's hand. She held it gently, watching the way the breeze played with the petals.
"Georgia asters?" Charlotte hummed thoughtfully, "And yarrow?"
"My momma didn't used to be poor. She grew up in a rich family, gave it up when she married my dad. Her momma taught her floriography." Y/n's words came out in a big rush, they chased after one another in a breathless flurry of nerves, "It was big in the victorian era for fancy people, all about talking through flowers. She taught me asters symbolized wisdom, faith, and valor and that yarrow was for healing and... and love... besides, I know you like them. You're always staring at them when were out."
Charlotte looked over at Y/n who's cheeks were bright red. She smiled, her eyes shining.
"I love you too." she said, nudging Y/n gently with her elbow.
"Yeah, but..." Y/n sighed, running a hand through her messy hair, "I... god, Lottie! I don't just love you like a sister. Its... I understand if you don't wanna talk to me anymore I just couldn't... I couldn't keep it in anymore."
Y/n looked away, tears pressing hotly at the backs of her eyes. Charlotte's eyes went wide.
"I understand... I won't be mad... I just... I'll leave."
Charlotte's hand shot out, grabbing Y/n's wrist as she pushed herself from the fence they were leaning against. Slowly, Y/n turned to face her. Charlotte was blushing now too and looked away, still holding Y/n tightly.
"I don't..." she took a deep breath, "I don't love you like a sister either."
"It's wrong... it's so wrong... what would my mother say... what would your mother say, I-"
Charlotte cut Y/n off, standing on her toes to press a soft kiss to the slightly taller girl's lips. It was clumsy and foreign. Y/n trembled, her eyes fluttered shut.
"I don't care." Charlotte said, "I don't care."
"Yeah." Y/n sighed, taking a final drag from her cigarette before stamping it out beneath her heel, "Yeah."
"Do I have anything to worry about?" Alastor asked and Y/n's eyes met his.
He had known her long enough, he could see the conflict.
"She was my first love, Al." Y/n admitted, "We were girls together."
"You're my wife."
"It's different."
"Do I have anything to worry about?" Alastor asked again and Y/n looked back out at the sky.
"She doesn't remember me."
"But you remember her."
"But I remember her." Y/n confirmed, her voice cracking, "I couldn't forget if I tried. She haunts me, Al. She has always haunted me, since long before I even met you. Lottie died in my arms, Al. My mother killed her, shot her right in the stomach. I...."
Y/n trailed off into silence. It was more about her life before she had met him than she had ever revealed before. Alastor took a deep breath, conflicting emotions battling behind his eyes.
"What are you thinking about?"
He was trying to keep his cool, to save face. He was failing, anger and a secret fear ate away at the edges of his words.
"Day lilies."
"Day lilies?" Alastor repeated and Y/n nodded, meeting his eyes once again.
"A floriography thing again?"
Alastor knew of Y/n's interest in the symbolic properties of plants. It was one of the only things she ever spoke about concerning her mother and her shadowed past before that night in Mimzy's bar.
"Yes."
"What do they mean?" Alastor sighed, resigning himself to his fate because god, if Alastor knew anything he knew his fate was Y/n. She held his heart in the palms of her hands.
"Love for lovers. Love for mothers..."
"And?"
His heart pounded against his chest.
"And loss of memory."

Im here to make a request my friend 😌
Idk if you do angst or not but ill request anyway, if you dont write angst then thats fine! You can ignore this!
So, how about a little thing where fem reader is dating Hyunjin but she spends so much time with Felix that Jinnie starts to think that she's cheating on him. He confronts Felix and they get into a fight....
(But then later he finds out that they're cousins or siblings or something and gets super embarrassed)
Take your time and feel free to ignore!!<3
Ooooooo I'll try! But be aware that this is my first time writing on Tumblr so this might not be as good as other stories :) (and I need feedback pls)
Angry
Hyunjin x f!reader x fam member!Felix
CW: cuss words, angst-ish, established relationship, kissing (lmk if I missed smth)
Summary: You started to spend much time with Felix, your cousin and childhood best friend, which made your boyfriend Hyunjin think you're cheating on him.
Two months.
Two months of "and then Felix said..." "Felix and I..." "Look, me and Felix..." And it was really getting to Hyunjin. Who was that Felix you were always talking about - more so, how was he connected to you? You never mentioned having an Aussie friend or Family from Australia, so he must be... No, you wouldn't do that. You wouldn't cheat on him. Right?
Upon arriving home, he finds you're alone, lying on the couch and rewatching some kid's movies. "Hey love" he greets, bending over the headrest of the couch and giving you a peck on the head. "Hey babe" you say back, simultaneously struggling to get out of the burrito you turned yourself into with the blanket to greet him properly. Having successfully gotten the blanket off you, you go to hug him. He did hug back, but it felt like it's forced. "Please don't hug me." He spoke, and it confused you. Had you done something wrong? Was there something bothering him? "Is... Is something wrong?" You ask, backing off.
For a moment, he contemplates if he should tell you. Thinking of the right words to express what exactly he means, because sometimes you guys got into stupid arguments over misunderstandings and he wanted you to get his point, he told:
"I think so, yes. You spent so much time with that Felix dude and I feel like you forgot me! Like, I'm your boyfriend, you're supposed to spend your time with me and not some other dude! And I tried to be patient with you but It really pisses me off! It's been two months! Eight weeks! And in those weeks I had you to myself like 3 hours each day, sleeping excluded! I fucking miss you and you're just out and about with some stupid hookup you failed to hide!"
With each word, he turned more and more angry. I mean, could he be blamed? He kept it all to himself, all the frustration about rarely ever seeing you, the frustration and jealousy of you always talking about that other boy, the sadness that you seemingly forgot about you guys relationship.
You were surprised by his mad attack. Had you really failed to tell him that Felix was someone you grew up with? Oh right, you hadn't even told him you'd lived in Australia.
"Listen, Hyunjin I can expl-"
"NO! You're just some damn whore! Am I not enough??" And with that, he stormed off.
When he came back, first thing he did was apologize. "I'm sorry my love, I really just thought Felix was a fling you had or something.." "It's okay Jinnie, I get it. Just let me explain next time, yeah?" He hummed in response and looked at you with puppy eyes, which meant he wanted hugs and/or kisses, and you were happy to give him both. "Now, let's get those cupcakes and their frosting going, shall we?"

It baffles the mind to me how people will insist Ben Percy's Beast is right and correct and is the natural end version of Hank and that since day one he was always going to end up like that, not just because it implies absolutely nobody has actually read Hank in any pre-Bendis comic ever, but also because Evil Hank as Percy writes him makes everyone look massively incompetent, and I'm not even talking about just X-Force, I mean the entire larger X-Men community.
Emma Frost. World class telepath. Repeatedly is shown to not have that many qualms about digging into people's minds if they're hiding something from her. Confronts Hank at least once directly, and yet did not actually care enough to do anything other than act huffy when confronted with his actions. At most, she was pissed at him ruining her party. You can torture whoever you want, old buddy, but causing an inconvenience at my party? Now I'm mad.
Jean Grey. Even greater telepath. Was on X-Force herself, even, and also does not have many holdups about tearing down people's walls if the needs be. We even see her do just that, but her problem is him keeping things from her, and not the actual content of most of his actions. And after she leaves, she just seems to plug her fingers in her ears and go lalalala? The stuff at the Hellfire Gala, keeping Wolverine as clones, she doesn't care, she's too busy X-Mening.
Wolverine. Epic cool warrior guy who is supposed to be the best there is, whose talents Hank clearly admires enough to clone repeatedly to do his bidding, who is simultaneously a lone wolf and also the guy everyone wants to have on their team, who is the only guy who can see through Hank or whatever. Not competent enough to kill one big blue furry man who has spent the last 5 years at a desk job. That completely alludes him.
Domino has luck based powers that are supposed to help her in any situation, but I guess getting rid of evil blue man is too much to ask. Couldn't even get a bucket propped up under an open door. "He was always like this, he was always evil" she insists, but after learning he's controlling a small nation with plant people at the Hellfire Gala she still busts out the Cha Cha Slide with him on the dance floor.
I guess neither Jean nor Logan bothered to tell Scott his old friend was committing war crimes, because he doesn't seem to know or to give a fuck.
Kitty and Kurt know enough to joke about it, but do they actually confront him? Does anyone care enough to actually try to put a stop to it directly, if they're all seemingly convinced he's beyond help and fundamentally evil? No, they've got other shit going on. No time to care about Hank making a future where he is God-King, we gotta stop Sinister doing that same thing, but I guess when Hank does it, who gives a shit.
Quinten Quire is an omega level telepath who apparently nobody thought to say "hey man, can you use those Phoenix-level abilities to get Beast to stop killing people?". He was too busy giving himself a bigger dick in resurrection protocols, I guess.
I could go on, but point is, I genuinely don't know how you insist that era made so much sense and was the perfect version of Hank and everyone was simply too naive to see that this was who he always was, because it makes everyone look like an incompetent moron! They can't kill one fat blue furry man??? He hasn't done field work in years! And yet that's too much to ask! The only reason he died was because he was in gay love with some fuckass actor from New Jersey. It's deeply embarrassing for everyone involved if that's the reality of things, and I have no idea why you want all of your favourite characters to be incompetent dipshits who think "Wow, isn't Hank evil?" and then refuse to actually do anything about it.
And all this could have been averted if Hank was, you know, Hank. Hank isn't charming and cultured and well-read and funny and polite because he's a good person, those are his innate traits, and as we see with Dark Beast, they can twist in the opposite direction. That would literally be all it would take. I mean a lot of things would still suck, but at the very least, it would make everyone's inability to do anything a little more understandable, and allow things to feel tragic, like that Hank becoming increasingly evil and separated from his ethics is a loss and one we all mourn, instead of the insistence that he was always going to turn out that way.
Emma walks in to try and set things right with Hank, but gets distracted by good conversation and jokes and the same man who treated her as a member of the X-Men when she first joined and not as a heartless monster, who built her piece by piece back together when people were joking that finding out her murderer would be too much work, because everyone wanted her dead. It's hard to connect the evil actions she's heard Hank doing with the kind and charming and personable man in front of her, who matches her intellectually and well and truly respects her, and so she accepts that things are either exaggerated or that Hank will ultimately come back into himself, and that she can trust him not to disrupt her party.
Just a few little moments like that would have gone so far. An evil Hank McCoy is ultimately still Hank, and should still be funny and dropping Aristotle quotes and Shakespeare and being a good friend, because those are not traits exclusively to moral people, and it would make everyone's seeming incompetence a little easier to swallow. It's harder to see the evil actions that Hank is doing for what they are, when he's making you laugh so hard your belly aches or pondering intellectual questions with you, rather than just repeatedly saying "I'M THE BASTARD YOU NEED" before making a torture station in outer space.
There's so many ways this entire arc could have, at the very least, had some intrigue and actual character work to explore, the ways Hank has always used a larger than life persona to deflect and hide, and how that could become increasingly warped if you're dead set on having him be evil, and make the whole thing feel less like a character assassination and more of a tragedy. Hank McCoy becoming evil should hurt. It should feel like a great loss that someone who had been so kind and empathetic and nurturing became increasingly amoral and evil and even sadistic, and all the characters involved should feel that loss, and that even could be why they struggle to actually do anything for so long; they're so loyal to the Hank that once was, they can't see the Hank that is.
But all that is lost when the only character suggesting that something else might be to blame is Colossus, who immediately gets shut down as being ridiculous and silly, and everyone else stands and nods that Hank is really evil now, and isn't that a shame, and maybe he was always like this, but are we actually gonna do anything about it? Nah, we got a party to throw, we gotta get our fancy dresses on.
The entire thing is so unbelievably infuriating, because all it would have taken for someone to actually not even like Hank, but just want to be consistent with prior characterisation and have him be fun. A villainous Hank should ultimately be fun. That's probably the main reason why Dark Beast has endured for so long; he is fun to see and be around. He's a fun character to see on your page. That's what Hank needed. But I guess Sinister was taking that place so instead we got blue Kissinger and it is genuinely such a travesty that this dogshit is celebrated by comic fans who throw up in their mouths if you suggest reading an Avengers comic to broaden their horizons.

Rush Series Masterlist
----------
After a well-deserved holiday break, you’re back at University of Paradis to start your spring semester. Along with your new and more rigorous curriculum, your obligations to your sorority escalate. No longer a pledge and a now a fully-fledged sister, you take a more active role in your organization by trying to recruit potential members. Spring rush begins two weeks into the new year for women and men interested in Greek life. Because of the partnership with Alpha Tau, Sigma Nu Kappa miraculously sees an increase in their numbers. By the end of the month, you welcome an exciting group of new sisters, ready to dive into the mysterious allure of sorority life.
Alpha Tau, back in its good graces, continues to excel during recruitment, despite losing a few members the previous semester. Reiner was expelled shortly after Eren. Apparently he threw a hissy fit in front of Erwin and Levi, who confronted him about his disrespectful behavior. Bertolt, being the obedient devotee he is, actually quit following his best friend’s expulsion. Rumor has it they’ve been “adopted” as unofficial brothers into another frat, the one where their friends Porco and Marcel are in.
The first few months of the new year are ordinary, for the most part. The only major difference is that Eren Jaeger has become a regular part of your daily life.
Following the end of your intimate relationship with him and his expulsion from Alpha Tau, Eren quickly got his act together. He focused on his studies more, spending hours in the library next to Armin, buried in his textbooks or typing away at a paper. You didn’t see him much during those last few weeks, only in passing, walking alongside his best friend. Cordial waves from a distance were always exchanged. Even from afar, it was difficult to ignore the twinkle in his eyes or the goofy grin whenever he saw you.
It's not until this new year that Eren makes his official return into your life.
The golden trio of Eren, Armin, and Mikasa are in tandem again, hanging out constantly as if their temporary setback never occurred. You’re included in the mix now, being Mikasa’s closest friend, roommate, and sorority sister. Jean occasionally joins if he isn’t busy with soccer team business. You and Eren acknowledge one another as acquaintances do. A smile, a wave, a glance here and there. Nothing more. Careful not to overstep any boundaries. There’s no tension between you two; rather there’s remnants of a barely lit flame still present from your previous relationship. It’s unpredictable when it will ever fizzle out.
You share meals together, surrounded by your friends, never alone. You have conversations as a group, not with each other. The most you’ll say is a hello or hi, along with a lingering look. There’s an unspoken agreement there; he won’t cross any lines until you’re ready to. At this rate, you’re taking baby steps to get to that point. You want to take your time with him.
Despite keeping your metaphorical distance, you find yourself learning more each day you spend with him. His interests, his pet peeves, his little quirks that you secretly find charming. Over dinner one night, you discover that Eren has a sweet tooth, finishing two different slices of cake in one sitting without a single crumb or smattering of frosting left on his plate. Another night, Mikasa teases him about being a mama’s boy, which he shamelessly agrees with.
“She’s the most important woman in my life,” he says proudly to Mikasa. “Besides you and – ”
He cuts himself off, not finishing his statement. For a split second, his eyes quickly dart towards you, cheeks blushed with a rosy tinge. Maybe it’s your imagination.
They reminisce about their past often, having spent their entire childhoods together. Through passing comments, you learn that Eren has always cared deeply for his friends. As a child, he was the first to throw a punch whenever Armin was harassed by the neighborhood bullies. The only kid on the block who would defend Mikasa from perverted old men eyeing her on the street. Even protecting his mom from being mugged several times on simple trips to the grocery store.
You’re beginning to see for yourself what Mikasa told you last semester. I wish you could have met him before all of this. You would see how great of a person he can be. There’s a reason his friends have stuck by him through thick and thin. They’ve put their trust and faith in him because of the lengths he’s gone for them. You wonder if you’ll ever be able to get to that point with him. A tiny part of you hopes so.
You learn that Armin and Eren share a fascination for traveling. During a study session in the library, they huddle during their breaks to read a couple different travel magazines they purchased at the café. Eren takes great care to highlight and place post-it notes on pages he finds particularly interesting. A few times, he glances over at you, catching your gaze on him. The moment dissipates as quickly as it appears, a fading ember in heavy rain. Something’s there, both of you too hesitant and shy to nurture it.
In the blink of an eye, March arrives. The flower gardens scattered throughout campus are in full bloom. Displays of different colored flora along every pathway illuminate your daily walks to class. The melancholy that winter naturally emanates has finally passed. Life is good.
It’s this month that your relationship with him changes. It’s small, but definitely noticeable.
~~~
In the middle of March, the weekend preceding midterms, the four of them gather in a study room. Mikasa and Armin review biology flashcards, she’s finishing up a permitted cheat sheet for one of her courses, and Eren focuses on writing an essay for his sociology class. After typing his last thought, he closes his laptop and leans back in his chair, sighing.
Mikasa sets down her flashcards. “Let’s take a break.” She reaches into her bag and fetches a bag of chips, setting it in the middle to share.
“Speaking of a break, what is everyone doing for spring break? It’s coming up,” Armin reminds them.
“Jean invited me to stay with his family. We might go camping,” Mikasa replies.
“That sounds fun! Grandpa will probably want to go fishing, so I’ll be doing that,” Armin says. “Eren, what do the Jaegers have planned this year?”
He grabs a handful of chips as he answers, “We’ll be at the beach house. I can’t believe Mikasa will be missing my birthday just because she has a boyfriend now,” he teases her, smirking.
She rolls her eyes. “A week away from Zeke bragging about med school and taking over your dad’s practice? Oh yeah, poor me,” she responds sarcastically, returning his playful grin.
“When is your birthday?”
He’s startled to hear her voice. To hear her direct a question at him. It’s an invitation to engage in a real conversation, which flusters and thrills him.
He faces her, hoping his cheeks aren’t flushed. “March 30th.”
“Must be nice having it during spring break. I’m sure you’ll have fun.”
He gulps loudly, excited to continue talking to her. “Yeah, it is nice. What are…what are your plans?” Mikasa and Armin stare at them as if they’re watching a slow-moving tennis match, heads turning towards whoever is speaking, holding their breaths.
She shrugs, reaching for the snacks. “Probably just stay home and do some spring cleaning. My family doesn’t really go on vacations.”
There’s a rush of ideas bombarding him, the most obvious being the temptation to invite her. It’s insane. But the thought of spending spring break together is a dream. It’s been over three months since they ended their previous relationship. Over three months of secretly pining for her, waiting for whatever chance he can get to be a little bit closer.
It’s on the tip of his tongue. What’s the worst that could happen if he let it slip? Rejection? Bruised ego? Extreme embarrassment? That’s nothing compared to heartache, and he’s already experienced that. He has nothing to lose.
Still, he has to put her first. He wouldn’t want to do or say anything to make her uncomfortable. That’s why it’s taken this long for them to have a legitimate conversation with each other, outside of their usual greetings. He wasn’t sure if she wanted to speak to him, especially after all that happened.
Mikasa intervenes. “Annie doesn’t live too far from you. I’m sure you two can see each other if you’re bored.”
“Oh yeah! She mentioned wanting to try a new restaurant near where I live, so we’ll probably do that.”
Eren comes to his senses, mentally calming himself down from his sudden excitement. He can’t invite her to the beach house with him. That’s crazy. Outrageous. Definitely a bad idea. Baby steps, he reminds himself. Baby steps. “That should be fun. I hope you have a nice break.”
“Thank you. You too.”
They gaze at each other for what seems like a full minute; in reality, it’s a few seconds. There’s electricity, even if it is a slightly dulled. It could be wishful thinking on his end, but these are the tiny interactions he’s learned to cherish these past few months. He’ll take whatever he can get; a warm glance, courteous wave, her signature bright smile that instantly lifts his mood. He won’t take any of it for granted anymore.
Armin clears his throat. “Anyways, it sounds like we’re all going to have a nice vacation.”
His friends engage her in idle chit chat about Greek life, leaving Eren alone in his thoughts. Another layer in their complicated relationship has been peeled away. There’s a long way to go, but it’s progress. It gives him hope.
He treasures these moments. This, along with the little details he’s learned about her so far. What she likes, what annoys her, those adorable habits she has. They spent so much time indulging in sex last fall that they didn’t get to know each other properly. He enjoys exploring her mind and soul just as much as her body; maybe more if that’s even possible.
Their passionate nights reappear in Eren’s head every now and again. Probably more than he’ll ever admit. Out of respect, he tries his best not to think of her in that way anymore. Though when he’s alone in the deepest confines of his psyche, he can’t help letting his hands wander, wishing more than anything it’s her in bed with him. He allows himself this occasional weakness for the sake of his sanity.
Tonight, he lets himself succumb to it, more so than ever these past three months. She actually spoke to him, and she was the one to initiate it. It’s glorious, and hours later, he’s still high from it. Why is he so desperate? As Eren slides his boxers off to stroke his hard cock, body hidden beneath the blankets in case Armin returns any minute, he ignores the guilt and lets his desires overtake him.
He fantasizes about a scenario where she does spend spring break with him and his family. They would drive to the beach house, top down in a rented convertible, wind blowing through their hair. Fingers entwined, resting on the center console, natural for two people in love.
At the beach house, Eren would make proper introductions to his parents. His mom would be ecstatic to see her son with a woman, especially one as beautiful as her. Zeke, his half-brother, would arrive later for dinner, cocky as usual during table conversation. Probably flirtatious with her, attempting to push his little brother’s buttons. This wouldn’t bother Eren, because at the end of the night, it’s him who bends her over at the edge of the bed, pleasuring her until they’re both spent. Cuddling and falling asleep in each other’s arms, in total bliss.
She’d make the best impressions on his parents, helping his mom in the kitchen, offering to help his dad fix a few loose boards on the deck. Pretending to be intrigued by Zeke’s insufferable stories of med school. They’d relax by the ocean every day, basking in the pleasant heat from the sun. At night, they’d make love, indulging in each other’s warm bodies. Her silky moans music to his ears as she wraps her legs around his waist, wanting to feel him deeper. Her moans turn into whines, indicating he’s hitting that sweet spot. He thrusts into her faster, wanting her to gush all over him, thumb brushing against her puffy clit that he licked and sucked earlier when she rode his face. She’s so close, desperate to have her precious cunt filled with his hot load…
His cock twitches in his fist, cum dribbling onto his bare abdomen. He opens his eyes and he’s in his bedroom, hidden beneath his covers. There’s a box of tissues at his bedside, conveniently. He wipes any evidence and tosses it into the trash, thankful that Armin takes unusually long showers.
After a few minutes of lying in bed, he buries his face into his pillow, groaning. He hates when that post-nut clarity hits. It brings him shame, guilty for using her as a way to get himself off. He didn’t even recall a past scenario this time; he invented a new one.
He answers the question he asked himself earlier: Why is he so desperate?
He’s in love with her. That’s why.
The rest of the semester passes without any major issues. The frequency in which you converse with Eren increases at a steady rate. He cracks jokes here and there, nothing vulgar or inappropriate. The conversations are never too deep, enough to scratch the surface and uncover a valuable cache of knowledge about each other. It’s surprisingly easy talking to him; you’re building up to being more than acquaintances with an intricate past.
With finals around the corner, you find yourself once again in a study room with Mikasa, Armin, and Eren. Mikasa and Armin group in front of a whiteboard, reviewing diagrams and terminology for their biology class. Eren is writing yet another sociology research paper. And you’re in the middle of a practice test for one of your courses.
Eren closes his laptop, raising his arms up in a stretch. “Anybody want anything from the café?”
Mikasa and Armin, too focused on their discussion, wave him off. He turns to you, offering, “Do you want anything?”
Distracted by a question that you’re desperately trying to solve, you mumble a name of a drink, your usual. A few minutes later, you come up with the solution and finally relax. It’s only now that you realize you only gave him half the details of what you wanted. Thinking it’s too late to specify any of it, you let it be, not wanting to be a bother.
When he returns, he sets his drink next to his laptop. Probably a black coffee, his typical order. He hands you yours, which seems normal.
“Thank you,” you tell him. “Let me know how much I owe you.”
“Nah, don’t worry about it. It’s on me. I hope I got your drink right.”
Certain that he didn’t, by no fault of his own, you examine the sticker on the cup listing the precise details. To your surprise, it’s perfect. From the amount of ice, type of milk, even the extra pump of the particular sweetener you like.
Impressed, you exclaim, “It’s exactly how I order it! How’d you know?”
He rubs the nape of his neck, blushing. “You get it so much, I guess it stuck with me.”
You beam at him, flattered that he memorized your relatively complicated order. He thought it was important to remember. It makes you feel special. With a sip of the drink, you take a deep breath, exhaling happily. “It’s absolutely perfect. Thank you.”
Cheeks still pink, he responds, “It’s really nothing.”
There it is again. That spark. A blaze that burns just barely, enough to provide light and warmth in a dim, dark place. It’s amazing how something so simple, so seemingly insignificant, can do that. You do your best to suppress these emotions, knowing all too well that there’s a long way to go when it comes to you and Eren. That doesn’t mean you can’t appreciate the progress.
The next few hours continue, the four of you concentrated on your own studies. When the sun sets, you gather your belongings and head to the dining hall to eat.
The topic of summer vacation comes up. Mikasa is already aware of your plans, but you decide to announce it to Armin and Eren.
“I’ll be staying on-campus. I’m required to complete one summer session for my major so that I can graduate on time.”
Armin says, “Really? Eren, aren’t you doing a summer session as well?”
This is brand new information. Mikasa also seems surprised by this. “You’re going to be here for the summer too?”
Eren nods, eyes focused down at his plate. “Yeah, I talked with Pyxis this week and he suggested that I do one to get in some extra classes. Told me it’s better for my resume when I apply to law school. He was able to pull some strings and get me enrolled last minute; I just found out yesterday.”
Mikasa, who’s sitting next to you, squeezes your knee lightly underneath the table.
“I guess we’ll both be here,” you murmur, unsure how else to react.
“Yeah, I guess we will.” His expression is unreadable. For a split second, though, he smiles.
Later that night, with you and Mikasa ready for bed and snuggled under the covers, she turns to face you. “Are you going to be okay? Being here with Eren for the summer?”
“Of course. It’s not going to change anything. We’ve been okay this whole semester.”
“Yeah, but Armin and I aren’t going to be here. Do you think you’ll want to hang out with him? Alone?”
You shrug. “I don’t know. We haven’t been alone together since…well, you know. I don’t know how awkward that will be.”
“You’ll both be at Reiss. All the students doing summer sessions are housed there.”
“So? What’s your point?”
“Living together in close quarters when nobody else is around to keep the two of you dummies in check? What do you think will happen?”
Rolling your eyes, you indulge her. “Tell me.”
“You’ll fuck! The two of you will start fucking again!”
“Mikasa, that’s not going to happen. First of all, the apartments are big. It’s not like we’ll be next door neighbors. I probably won’t be seeing him much. And second, even if we do run into each other, we’ll say our usual hellos, do some small talk, and that’s it! What do you think we’ve been doing the past few months. Everything is under control.”
“Oh please. Don’t think for a second that the little flirtations you and Eren have been exchanging are going unnoticed,” she reveals.
“What? We don’t flirt!”
“Oh really?” She sits up aggressively, mimicking you from earlier. “Oh Eren, it’s perfect! How did you know?” In a second, she switches to Eren, copying his deep voice, “I don’t know baby. Just stuck with me I guess. Want to touch my abs now?”
You throw a pillow at her, unable to contain your laughter. “Shut up! That’s not what we sounded like!”
“That’s exactly how you sounded,” she teases, tossing it back to you. “It’s obvious he still has feelings for you.”
“I don’t know about that – ”
“And I know you still have feelings for him, too. Neither of you will ever admit it, but we all know.”
Shocked by her accusation, you sputter, “Huh? That’s not…how do you…”
“We’re sisters. Of course I know.”
You remain silent, neither confirming nor denying her suspicions. It wouldn’t matter anyways with how confident she sounds.
“I’m not saying you two shouldn’t reconnect. To be honest, it seems like Eren is back to his normal self, before his whole wannabe fuck boy phase. I want to make sure that you’re ready to take that next step. If that’s what you really want.”
“I don’t know what I want yet. We’re taking it slow. There’s no rush.”
“And that’s great. I don’t doubt that you’ll continue to succeed in that. But I’m sure there will come a time that you’ll be tempted to revisit those intimate moments the two of you share. If you do go through with it, do it because you want to. Not because you’re lonely, desperate, or pressured. Do it because it feels right in your heart.”
You let her advice sink in. She adds, “If you ever need someone to talk to, you know I’m always a phone call away.”
In the dim light, you can see her sincere eyes gazing at you. “Thank you,” you tell her, promising telepathically to heed her words of wisdom.
The discussion ends there, leaving it up to you to decide when the “right time” is. Or if there will ever be a “right time”.
One thing is for sure: this summer is already more interesting because of Eren Jaeger.
At the end of the semester, the seniors graduate in the standard pomp and circumstance ceremony. You exchange tearful goodbyes to your favorite graduates, promising to keep in touch. Hange makes you swear to visit her at Marley School of Medicine, while Petra promises to stop by whenever she’s in the area. The candy leis you, Mikasa, and Sasha spent the previous night crafting are distributed to all the Sigma Nu Kappa seniors, even some Alpha Tau’s, including Levi, Erwin, and of course, Mike. You give him an especially fond smooch on the cheek.
With the school year officially over, most of Paradis’s students pack up and go home. Annie and Hitch agree to stay an extra day to help you move into the on-campus apartments called Reiss Residence, open specifically for students staying for the summer. It takes at least two hours to haul your belongings across campus to your new home. Being on the second floor of the complex with an elevator that operates at a snail’s pace contributes to the difficulty. Once your stuff is inside, you unpack, dragging boxes up the stairs into one of the empty bedrooms. Downstairs is a living room space furnished with a couch and coffee table. There’s also a little kitchen, complete with all the essential appliances to cook. Unfortunately, you don’t have any pots or pans to actually prepare a meal, so you pray that your roommate moves in with those items in her possession.
Exhausted from the move and too lazy to walk over to the dining hall, you call a local pizza shop to get dinner delivered directly to your doorstep, treating your friends for helping you during this tiring process. In the middle of your meal, you hear a knock on your door.
“RA knocking! Anyone in there?” When you open it, a tall, well-built man stands in front of you with a clipboard. “Hi! I’m Onyankopon, your new RA.”
You introduce yourself, smiling as you shake hands.
“Welcome to Reiss. My room is downstairs, #101. Knock anytime you need anything. If I’m not in, feel free to call me.” He gives you a sheet of paper listing general rules and information for the complex. He points at the number typed on the bottom next to his name.
“I see you’re pretty much moved in. I just need to get you checked-in with a date and a signature.” He presents you the clipboard and a pen. You scan it quickly for your name, signing it when you find it. Not bothering to check the rest of the list, you return it to him.
“Awesome, thanks. Has your roommate moved in?”
“No, not yet.”
“That’s okay. I’ll come by tomorrow again to check. Some students are coming in tomorrow, even later this week since classes don’t start until Monday. I’m planning to have a little welcoming party in my room Sunday night to introduce everyone. I’ll post the details on the bulletin next to the laundry room on this floor.”
“Sounds great. Looking forward to it,” you tell him, genuinely excited.
“Don’t hesitate to contact me if you need anything!” With that, he waves goodbye, leaving to knock on the rest of the doors on your floor.
Back inside, Annie says, “He seems nice.”
“And hot,” Hitch smirks. “Aren’t RAs for these apartments usually grad students? You should try older men for a change,” she teases with a wink.
You roll your eyes. “I don’t think he’ll be interested in an undergrad if he really is a grad student.”
“Hey, you never know unless you try! How hot would that be, sex with the RA? This stuff doesn’t write itself.”
You laugh, half considering her suggestion because she’s not wrong: your new RA is very attractive. However, you’re still taking time to focus on yourself and avoid potential drama. If that means remaining celibate the rest of the summer, then that’s the route you’ll have to continue taking.
“Armin told me that Eren is also going to be here. Is that going to be weird for you?” Annie asks, finishing off her slice of pizza.
“I don’t know. We probably won’t see much of each other unless we literally live right next door, which isn’t going to happen.”
“Think you’ll try to hang out with him one-on-one? I mean, you practically saw each other every day the past few months.”
“That’s different; we’re always with Mikasa and Armin. There’s a buffer.”
“Do you even want to hang out with him? As friends?”
It’s definitely crossed your mind. Mikasa’s words have been replaying constantly the past couple of days. Do it because it feels right in your heart.
You haven’t seen him since the last study session, and the thought of running into him any minute now has you flustered. Is it worry? Or excitement?
“I don’t think I’m there yet,” you respond, remaining ambiguous.
Instead of continuing to pester you, they drop it, changing the subject to Eta Iota gossip going around about one of Hitch’s sisters hooking up with another’s boyfriend. You listen passively, your focus still on Eren.
Given your history, it might be dangerous to be alone together. You’d be lying to yourself if you said your intimate memories with him have never reappeared in your thoughts. They pop up in your head, particularly at night when you need some sort of sweet release.
Hanging out, without Mikasa and Armin there to regulate, is a big step. Will you ever get there with him? Can you ever be friends?
The next morning, you eat breakfast with Hitch and Annie at the cafeteria before they leave for home. Back at your apartment, you notice the door is open, boxes stacked and scattered around the living room. You hear shuffling upstairs and a girl’s voice talking to someone on speaker phone. You knock on the open door loudly to announce your presence.
A girl with light-brown hair in a ponytail comes sprinting down the stairs, smiling. “Roomie!” She launches herself towards you to give you a big hug. “I’m Hannah! Nice to meet you!”
You return her embrace and introduce yourself, making small talk while you help her move her things to her bedroom. Throughout the day, you learn that she is cheerful and easy-going. She mentions her boyfriend Franz, who she warns will be coming over quite often, to which you assure her that you don’t mind.
When she’s unpacked, the two of you walk to the store right off campus to pick up groceries and snacks. That night, you cook your first meal in the kitchen. Luckily, Hannah comes prepared with kitchenware, offering to share it as long as you clean it after use.
Friday, Hannah decides to spend the weekend with Franz once more before the session begins, leaving you alone in the apartment. You sleep in, taking advantage of the few days left of your tiny break.
Around noon, your growling stomach gets you out of bed. In your comfiest sweats, you leave your apartment. For the first time this week, you notice the door next to yours is open. Outside is a middle-aged woman with long black hair in a loose ponytail hanging over her shoulder. There are clothes scattered over the pavement surrounding her as she carries an empty laundry basket. Immediately, you bend down to pick up some of the littered fabric.
“Ah, thank you, dear. I’m such a klutz,” she giggles, squatting to help. “These are clean, don’t worry.”
You chuckle, giving her a pair of sweatpants. The two of your collect the last few items off the ground. “I hope I didn’t take too much time out of your day!” she says.
“Not at all. I was just on my way to get lunch. I’m in no rush. Happy to help.”
“I’m relieved to know my son is living next to someone as sweet as you. Thank you again for all your help.”
Her appreciation for such a simple act is endearing. She seems like such a lovely woman. You smile at her, reiterating how it wasn’t a big deal when you hear someone walk towards you from behind.
You turn to check who it is, almost choking when you recognize that it’s Eren. He blinks rapidly as he stutters your name.
Somehow, some way, the universe has forced you two to be next door neighbors.
Eren’s mom glances at him, then at you. “Oh, you two know each other? How nice! She was helping me pick up your laundry after I dropped it all on the ground.”
He steps towards his mother, grabbing the sides of the basket. “Mom, I told you I’d get that. It’s heavy,” he states, carrying it easily. He glances at you before heading back inside his apartment to set the clothes down.
His mom asks you, “So, you two are friends?”
What is the correct answer here? You’re not quite sure yourself.
Eren quickly replies, “Yes, we’re friends.” He smiles at you, then at his mom.
“Oh good! I don’t have to worry about my son being lonely this summer,” his mom teases, pinching one of his cheeks.
“Mom,” Eren warns, waving her off lovingly. It’s cute.
“Your dad should be here soon; he went to get gas after we unloaded all of your things from the car.”
“That’s nice you’re here to help Eren move. I wish I had a car when I moved. We had to lug everything from across campus,” you explain, laughing.
“Oh you poor thing. Next time, tell Eren to help you. As you can see, he has plenty of muscles,” she comments, squeezing his bicep.
“Mom, seriously,” he mutters, hand shielding his face in embarrassment.
“He’s so shy, isn’t he?” she grins. Eren peeks at you between his fingers, a blush surrounding his cheeks.
His mom’s phone chimes. “Oh! That’s your father, let’s go sweetie.”
You’re ready to part ways when you hear her suggest, “You should come to lunch with us!”
Going to lunch with your former fuck buddy’s parents? And your former fuck buddy turned acquaintance slash friend? This is too weird. “No, I don’t want to intrude.”
“Nonsense. We’re inviting you.”
Expecting him to dissuade his mother, Eren agrees. “Yeah, you should come with us. It’ll be fun.” His expression is warm and inviting. His eyes glisten with kindness. How can you decline an invite from both him and his mother?
“Oh…um, okay. Thank you,” you relent, walking besides them.
“Silly me! I forgot to introduce myself. I’m Carla,” she mentions, holding out her hand. You do the same as the three of you head downstairs. In the parking lot, you spot a maroon Subaru Hatchback running. A man with glasses sits in the driver’s seat.
“Honey, Eren’s friend here is going to join us for lunch!” Carla exclaims.
From inside the vehicle, you see him clap giddily. “Excellent! Hello Eren’s friend!”
Carla informs her husband of your name, to which he enthusiastically repeats. You grin at their quirkiness. From the corner of your eye, you see Eren smiling too.
~~~
Somehow, some way, the universe has blessed Eren.
He can’t comprehend it. He’s sitting in the back of the car next to her, the middle seat being the only distance between them, as his parents drive them to his favorite restaurant in the area. He literally pinches himself several times to believe it’s real.
His mom does most of the chatting during the ride. She asks the standard questions, most of which he’s already memorized about her. At the restaurant, which is a local diner with the best milkshakes, his dad joins in on the small talk. In typical Grisha Jaeger fashion, he brags about Zeke, who’s currently in med school to take over the family business. This naturally prompts him to pat Eren on the back and proclaim, “But I’m also proud of my other son here, who’s going to be a hot-shot lawyer one day! Hopefully he won’t ever be prosecuting me for medical malpractice!”
Aside from his dad’s corny jokes, their lunch is as delightful as Eren could imagine it to be, under their current circumstances. All week, he’s been nervous about the status of their relationship this summer, if there even would be a relationship. Without Armin and Mikasa around, how would it be between them? The question has been nagging him since he decided to stay. And now, it’s been partially answered. Still, he wonders if they’ll ever be able to spend time together, just the two of them.
Back at the apartment, they gather in front of Eren’s room.
“Thank you so much for lunch, Mr. and Mrs. Jaeger,” she says.
“Oh please, the pleasure was all ours! We hope to see you again soon!”
Eren eyes his mom, to which she announces, “Grisha, honey, let’s unpack some of Eren’s stuff in the kitchen.” Before his dad can get a word in, she drags him into the apartment, yelling out, “Sweetheart, it was so nice to finally meet you. Please take good care of yourself!” He nearly flinches at his mom’s slip-up. Thankfully, it goes unnoticed.
At last alone with her, he says, “Thank you for joining us. That was fun. I hope it wasn’t awkward for you or anything.”
“No, it wasn’t. Your parents are really nice. Thanks for letting me tag along.”
“Are you all unpacked?” he asks, eager to keep their exchange going.
“Yeah, for the most part. I don’t have too many things, so it wasn’t so bad.”
“I’m the opposite. My mom made sure I packed everything. I might have to use the spare bedroom for storage.”
Her eyes light up at this statement. “You don’t have a roommate?”
“Nope. It’s just me,” he answers. “My dad is going to help me move the other bed into my room to create a queen-sized bed.”
“That sounds nice.” There’s a small pause before she adds, “Maybe we can hang out at your place. Not on the bed, I’m not thinking that because of the bed, I thought that since you don’t have a roommate, it might be nice to, y’know, watch a movie or something, I don’t know – ”
He stops her rambling with a grin, “I get it. I wasn’t thinking anything about it. But yeah, we should definitely do that. If it’s okay with you.” Calm, cool, collective. He has to appear this way as fireworks are nearly bursting out of his chest.
She nods, not explicitly responding to his last statement. “Anyways, I’ll let you get back to unpacking. I’ll see you around.”
It’s too short. He wishes they could keep chatting forever and ever. “Yeah, see you.”
She disappears into her apartment, leaving Eren to pinch himself one more time before joining his parents inside. In a daze, he removes some pans from the open box next to his mom, who looks at him curiously.
“Honey, Eren and I are going to unpack his clothes in his room. Can you finish the rest of these boxes down here?”
“Yes, dear.”
Upstairs, Eren’s mom shuts the door and begins hanging his jackets in the closet. “So, that’s her.”
There’s no secrets between him and his mom. That’s the type of relationship they have. When he fucked up last semester, he made sure to come clean about it as soon as he was home for winter break. And she made sure to give him a piece of her mind. Since then, she hasn’t stopped.
“I can’t believe you would do that to a sweet girl like her,” she continues, casually unfolding his laundry as she scolds him. “Really, Eren. I am still so disappointed in you.”
“I know, Mom. I know. I fucked up. I beat myself up about it every day.”
“I hope you do. Did you know that she would be next door?”
“Of course not. I knew she was staying at these apartments. I never predicted this. I mean, I jokingly wished for it. I didn’t think it’d actually come true.” He can’t help but smile to himself, feeling like the luckiest guy in the world.
She glares at him. “Don’t get any ideas, son. You have to keep your distance. She might still be wary about you. I wouldn’t blame her.”
“Yeah, I know. I will. But when I told her I don’t have a roommate, she said that we should hang out. I think she’s ready to be friends.”
She stops what she’s doing to look at him carefully. “Honey, are you sure about this?”
“What do you mean?”
“Isn’t it time to move on? I know you still have feelings for her, but this is dangerous. You don’t know if she’ll ever feel the same way about you again. Maybe this ship has sailed.”
He contemplates this for a while before saying, “Maybe. But if there’s the tiniest chance, then I’m wearing a life vest and swimming. I’m not letting her go. Not yet.”
She stares at him, concerned. “You like her that much?”
With full confidence, he answers, “I’m in love with her. I love her, Mom.” This is the first he’s confessing it out loud. He’s surer of it now hearing it in his own voice.
“Eren, you’re not even dating. You barely know her. Don’t be ridiculous.”
“I’m not being ridiculous. I feel it in my heart, in my fucking soul. I can’t stop thinking about her. Everything I do now is for her. To prove to her how worthy of a man I can be, worthy of her love. I won’t give up until the day she looks me in the eyes and tells me that it’s never going to happen. Maybe even then, I won’t give up. I know you probably think I’m being immature or idiotic. But this is how I feel. I can’t help it.”
“Honey, I hear you, and I’m not trying to invalidate your feelings. But are you prepared to get hurt if this doesn’t work out the way you want it to?” There’s urgency in her voice, almost like she’s pleading with him to reconsider this. To give up, for his own sake.
He won’t. This is the most certain he’s ever been in his life.
“If that means I’m going to get hurt, then fine. It’ll be worth it to have felt something than nothing at all.”
~~~
Sunday night, your RA hosts a gathering in his slightly larger apartment on the first floor. Hannah isn’t back from her boyfriend’s, so you arrive alone. You meet a few of the other residents as you help yourself to a slice of pizza and a drink. Onyankopon gathers everyone in a circle to play a little ice-breaker game. Just as he’s about to start, Eren walks in.
“Sorry I’m late,” he mumbles.
“No worries, man! Go ahead and take a spot in the circle.”
You glance at him, waving, which he returns with a smile. He positions himself across from you, next to an auburn-headed guy you sort of recognize from one of the fraternities.
Onyankopon asks everyone in the circle state their name, year, major, organizations they are involved in on campus, and one interesting fact. He starts, explaining how he completed his bachelors at a school private school in Marley and is now working on his masters in aerospace engineering here at Paradis. Each resident clockwise has their turn to speak. When it gets to Eren, he shares that he has a big sweet tooth, which you already knew, and that he has finished an entire chocolate cake all by himself once in his lifetime, which you did not know.
After the event, you bid farewell to your RA and new neighbors. Outside, Eren walks slow, waiting for you. You catch up to him, greeting him with a, “Hey.”
“Hi. Are you ready for classes tomorrow? Feels like we barely had a break.”
“Not sure if I’m ever really ready for classes. Oh well,” you chuckle. “Do you have an early morning class?”
“No. Thankfully my earliest class is at 11, which isn’t bad.”
“That’s the same for me too! It’ll be nice to sleep in once in a while.”
“Yeah, definitely.” There’s a pause. “Maybe we can get breakfast some time. If you’re up for it.”
You remember him being so against sharing a meal together in public not too long ago. And now, he’s offering the idea so easily. You can’t help but tease him just a bit. “You don’t want to get it delivered?”
He stops in his tracks. “Hey, I didn’t…I wasn’t…I’m sorry I wasn’t thinking – ”
You nudge him in the arm with your elbow, laughing. “I’m messing with you. Breakfast sounds good.”
His face relaxes. “I deserve that.”
“Yeah, you do,” you smirk.
It’s different this time around. It has to be.
~~~
The session starts and Eren, for the most part, has a handle on his courses. Without it being as rigorous as a regular semester, he spends a large chunk of his free time going to the gym, cooking in his kitchen, and watching Netflix on his flat-screen TV, courtesy of Dr. Grisha Jaeger.
Though the walls are thin, he barely hears a bump from his lovely neighbor. However, knowing she’s there brings him happiness. Over the past few weeks, they’ve been getting comfortable chatting outside the apartment. Sometimes for a few minutes if either of them is in a rush to another destination, most of the time for nearly half an hour, neither in any rush to end it. He looks forward to stepping outside his apartment every day to get his daily dose of her. An instant serotonin boost.
One Friday night, well into the season, Eren sits on the couch in front of the TV, watching a K-drama he’s hooked on. He finished a bowl of pasta for dinner and is indulging in ice cream when he hears a knock on his door.
He cracks it open cautiously. To his delight, it’s her. “Hi neighbor. Can I hang out here for a bit?”
It takes a while to process. Is he dreaming? He pulls himself together and opens the door for her, inviting her in. “Is everything okay?”
“Yeah, I’m fine. It’s just that my roommate and her boyfriend are having a heated argument right now and I’m almost certain it’s going to lead to some very loud and angry sex. I don’t want to be there to listen to it.” She plops down on the couch. “I hope I’m not bothering you.”
“Not at all. I was just watching TV. Do you want some ice cream?”
“Sure!”
He rummages through his freezer, retrieving a particular carton of ice cream. As he scoops it into a bowl, she comments, “I didn’t expect you to be a fan of K-dramas.” She’s looking at the paused screen on the television, an amused expression on her face.
He passes her the bowl and takes a seat on the opposite side of the couch, an appropriate distance for two ex-lovers to be in. “I recently got into it. I can see why people are so obsessed with them. Especially the romance ones.”
She takes a spoonful of ice cream into her mouth. “Yum. This is my favorite. Thank you.”
There’s no point in revealing to her that he knows this already. She mentioned it once during spring semester. He wanted to try it himself, see why she adored it so much. Now, he always keeps a pint of it in his freezer. Not because he expects situations like this, but because he indulges in it himself to have the tiniest connection with her. It also helps that it is, in fact, yummy.
“So I’m guessing that you don’t get along with your roommate?” he asks, finishing the last bites of his melting ice cream.
“We get along fine. I just didn’t expect her and her boyfriend to be so loud. Especially during sex. It’s very distracting.”
“When you’re caught up in the heat of the moment, it’s easy to forget about everything and everybody else surrounding you,” he says. In the worst timing ever, he recalls their passionate nights, never holding back with each other.
She turns to look at him, a gleam in her eyes that sends his heart racing. “Yeah. You’re right.”
Is he imagining all of this? This pleasant vibe in the air?
He hastily grabs the remote and resumes the show, ending any more talk about sex. They finish the episode and watch one more before she deems it safe to return to her place.
“Thanks again for letting me come over. And for the ice cream.”
“Of course. I’m here anytime you need me.” The words slip out sooner than he can actually think it through. He panics, fearing he took a monumental step backwards.
Instead, she responds, “Okay. I’ll hold you to that.” Eren watches her leave and waits for the soft thud of her door shutting to close his.
Cheeks hot, perspiration beading on his forehead, he slides down the door and sits on the floor, burying his face in his sweaty palms.
His mom is right. This is dangerous.
~~~
The summer session is nearing the end. It goes by much faster than you expect. This is largely thanks to your next-door neighbor slash friend slash ex-lover Eren Jaeger. For a situation so complicated and messy, it’s been easy being with him, as friends.
It’s gotten to a point where you’re at his apartment nearly every weekend, usually watching a random show or movie. He’ll offer you whatever meal he can whip up in the kitchen on the fly; other nights you’ll order delivery or take-out from a local restaurant. And every dinner ends with three scoops of your favorite ice cream.
On some weekdays, you’ll wake up early to get breakfast together at the dining hall. You’ve since unblocked his number from your phone, so either he’ll text you, “Breakfast?” or you’ll knock on his door, knowing he’s already awake.
Not wanting to make the same mistakes as last year, you tell your friends everything, to which you get plenty of opinions about from them. Annie in particular isn’t shy to call you dumb for falling for the same trap again. In your defense, it doesn’t feel stressful this time around. What do either you or Eren gain from spending time together, besides companionship? Without sex being involved, could the two of you truly become friends? At this rate, you’re confident that you can.
The Friday leading into finals, you leave the library close to 1 AM. You got caught up finishing a paper for one of your classes, not realizing how late it is. The walk to your apartment isn’t far. However, being alone in the after-midnight darkness adds a level of creepiness that unsettles you. You slide your keys between your knuckles as a makeshift weapon and stroll directly under each lamp post for a sense of security.
When you arrive at the apartment complex, there’s a figure slouched at the bottom of the staircase leading up to your floor. You recognize him as one of the residents of the apartments. As you pass him on the steps, he grabs your ankle.
“Hey, can you help me?” His speech is slurred; he’s drunk.
Alarmed at his unwanted touch, you tug your foot away from him, muttering, “Sorry. No.” You hustle up the stairs, hoping he stays slumped there.
You hear shuffling as he cries out, “Come on! I locked myself out! Public Safety is taking forever. Let me stay in your apartment for a bit.”
He’s on your tail. Nervous for him to see which apartment you’re living in, you stop in front of the laundry room, reaching for the phone in your pocket. “I said no. I don’t know you.”
“I’m Floch. I’ve seen you around. You’re a Sigma Nu Kappa. I bet you’re an easy fuck.” He grabs you by the wrist aggressively, causing you to drop your phone onto the ground.
“Let go of me asshole!” On instinct, you kick him between the legs, directly in the balls.
He grunts, doubling over, clutching his hopefully shattered jewels. “You fucking bitch,” he spits out through gritted teeth.
Quickly, you retrieve your fallen phone and sprint to your room, desperate to hide from him. Shaking, you can’t get your keys into the lock. From your peripheral, you see him get back up slowly, limping towards you, holding onto his crotch like some perverted zombie. You continuously press the lock button on your phone, attempting to trigger the SOS signal as he closes the distance.
Suddenly, the next door swings open and Eren hovers over Floch, growling, “What the fuck do you think you’re doing?”
Your assailant shrinks, waving his hands in front of him in a pathetic surrender. “Whoa…Nothing man, I wasn’t doing anything.”
“You owe her an apology.”
“Huh? She’s the one who kicked my nuts – ’
“Did I fucking stutter? Apologize to her. Right fucking now, dipshit.”
“Okay, okay.” He peeks around Eren’s massive form to apologize. “I’m sorry.”
You don’t speak, staring at them in a catatonic state.
Eren steps forward, towering over him. “Now get the fuck away from her and wait outside your own goddamn apartment. And if you bother her again, I won’t be so nice.”
Without another word, Floch hobbles off, heading upstairs to the third level.
Eren looks at you, expression switching immediately from outrage to concern. “Are you okay?”
You’re still trembling as you nod. “Yeah. I’m…I’m okay.”
“Did he hurt you?”
“No. I kicked him in the balls before he could do anything.” You turn the handle to open the door, which you finally manage to get unlocked. “Thank you. That was…crazy.”
“You don’t have to thank me. I heard your voice from outside and I knew something was wrong. I’m glad I came out when I did.”
“Me too.” For some reason, you’re nervous to look at him, so you keep your focus on the ground.
“Are you sure you’re okay?”
“Yeah, I’ll be fine. Thank you again.”
“It was nothing. Seriously. I’m here anytime you need me.”
You stand, frozen in place with fear and adrenaline coursing through your veins. Eren’s voice, despite being beside you, seems distant.
“You’re shaking,” he notices, watching you carefully.
“Yeah, I’m just…I don’t know. I wish my roommate was here. I don’t want to be alone right now.” Unfortunately, Hannah decided last minute to study for finals at her boyfriend’s this weekend.
After a moment of contemplation, he says, “You can stay at my place. Until you’re feeling better.”
“Are you sure? You don’t feel weird about this?”
“No. We’re friends. Right?” It’s more of a question he wants confirmed, unsure himself.
You smile at him. “Yes. Friends.”
~~~
He leads her inside his apartment, waving over to the couch. “I’ll be back. I’m going to get a pillow and a blanket.”
Prior to heading into his bedroom, he goes into the bathroom, staring at his reflection in the mirror. She’s in his apartment in the middle of the night, and he’s almost certain she will be sleeping here. She’s scared and traumatized from that asshole who attacked her, and she didn’t want to be alone, so he offered to help.
Has he crossed the line? Is this okay?
Back downstairs, he hands her a pillow and throw blanket. “Here you go. Let me know if you need anything else.”
He’s ready to march right upstairs, slam his door shut, and pretend that this is all totally normal. That he’s totally fine. This is what friends do. They help each other. And that’s what they are now. Friends.
“Wait.”
She looks at him, eyes precious, innocent, and sweet. Arms wrapped tightly around the pillow. It has him melting like ice cream on a hot summer day.
“Can you…stay with me a while?”
He swallows loudly, nervous and excited all at once. “Of course.”
She smiles softly, laying on the cushion with the blanket surrounding her. He kneels on the floor beside her, still in awe that this is happening.
“It smells like you,” she says, nose pressed into the pillow.
He laughs. “Is that a good or a bad thing?”
“Good. It smells good.”
It’s too much. He’s about to explode from glee. On the edge of the couch, he rests his arm, laying his head on it, gazing at her. He wants to brush the hair away from her forehead. Caress her delicate cheek with his hand. “Are you okay?”
“Still a little freaked out.”
“We should report it. I’ll let Onyankopon know now – ”
“We can talk to him in the morning. I don’t want to be left alone right now.” Her hand sneaks out from under the covers, inches from his. There’s electricity flickering in the small space. It jolts throughout his body, firing synapses into his brain.
“Can I hold your hand?” she asks, voice trembling.
He’s convinced he’s dreaming now. There’s no way this is happening. But it is. She’s here in front of him. As real as ever.
He hesitates, “Are you sure?”
She nods, carefully sliding her hand over his.
Everything plays in slow motion. They press their palms together slowly, fingertips lined up perfectly, skin-on-skin igniting the ember that still remains from months ago. Savoring this moment before it gets taken away. Their fingers interlock, fitting seamlessly as if they belong exactly like this.
Breathless, he asks again, “Are you sure this is okay?” His whole body vibrates from the palpations overwhelming his chest, still in disbelief this is actually happening.
“Yes, Eren.” Her voice is soft, supple. It soothes him, makes him feel at peace.
“I don’t want to rush this.”
“Me neither.”
They remain in this position for a while, cherishing it for all it’s worth. So much is communicated between them without speaking. It’s in the eyes, their touch. The warmth that she emits, filling him up with euphoria he can’t find elsewhere.
It’s different this time. It’s right. He’ll do everything in his power not to mess it up again. His word lost all value the second he used it against her. So instead of telling her how he feels, he has to show her. Prove to her that he’s no longer afraid.
~~~
“Can I show you something?” He looks at you tenderly, eyes sparkling like brilliant emeralds unearthed through the dust.
Curious, you agree, giving him your full attention, a flutter in your belly from the anticipation.
He places your palm over his chest, holding you gently against him. Through the cotton of his shirt, you feel his heart pounding hard and fast.
“This is how I feel about you. This is what you do to me.”
You keep steady, relishing the rhythmic thumping of his heartbeat. Understanding exactly what he’s trying to convey to you.
The two of you were always lost in translation, unsure how the other felt, what the other wanted. You were on different pages, sometimes even in two different worlds. Somehow, someway, you are brought together again, now in the same orbit, revolving one other like the universe intended it.
Your story with Eren has already been written. It began at the start of fall semester, almost a year ago, and ended a few months later, before the bitter cold of winter. There are no rewrites, no rewinds to change the events that occurred. Mistakes were made, hearts were broken, a chance at love was lost. Far from a fairytale ending.
Maybe this is the beginning of the sequel, a story about two people who are far from perfect finding their way back to each other for one last shot. Picking up the shattered fragments to build something beautiful from the ground up, piece by piece. There may be cracks or missing parts throughout. In the end, maybe it’ll be a masterpiece you can both be proud of, flaws and all.
----------
End Note: Thank you for all of you who have taken the time to read Rush the whole way through. It’s been such a fun ride and I hope it was worth it. The love and support I’ve gotten throughout means so much to me, I can’t thank you enough! I have a few ideas about what I want to write next, so stay tuned!
Room 44 ⍟ Satoru Gojo
┊ Neighbors.
NOTE: this is my first time writing a fanfic… hope u enjoy :3
PAIRING: Satoru Gojo x fem!reader
CONTENT: friends (started as neighbors) to lovers + sorry if this is too badly written and includes typos, english isn’t my first language and i wanted to write smth for fun..!
You live in an apartment complex, room 43.
You led a pretty boring life since graduating. Waking up early in the morning, getting ready and heading to the office for work. Yet no matter how many times you try to wrap up early you always end up coming back home late from work, it’s the same usual scenery.
The moon making her way to her place, the sky turning darker and darker, parents picking up their children from the playground beside your work place since it’s getting late and the chilly breeze reminding you that autumn’s arriving.
-
You think of dating as a waste of time, well atleast, you’re the only one who tends to think so… You can’t find the time to make new relationships or get into one, plus you only have a few people in your life that you actually interact with .
You go out with your best friend on sundays for a drink to release stress and keep her up with what happens in the office, though it’s a pretty dreary topic but she insists that you tell her everything and after it’s your turn to ask her about how she’s doing ; you’re more like sisters than friends, and it comforts you to have someone that you can seek for advice.
The day after, your mom visits you to check up on you and brings you your favourite dishes.
-
Your mom is always nagging you to get a boyfriend and marry him in view of you not getting any younger..
“Mom, i’m only 28 years old..” that’s what you always say to her at the end of each conversation about dating.
In fact, even your best friend insists that she sets you up on a blind date to find your someone, but you end up refusing each and every time with the excuse that you want to focus on yourself and your job for the meanwhile. “Just get married to your work then, you workaholic!” she told you once in a snarly tone.
As much as you appreciate their concerns for you, you feel as if it’s still not the right time to start dating, add to that, you wouldn’t bother putting in effort to meet new people. Well, atleast for now.
-
It’s a usual friday night. You get back home, exhausted from a long day at work. You were left to finish overtime as per your boss ordered… but in return you get to have monday off in reward of your hard work.
You change into comfortable clothes and out of that suffocating shirt and tie choking ur neck all day long.
You lay in bed seeking for rest and peace after a long tiring friday, but as soon as your head touches the pillow you hear loud banging from the room next door, room 44. “Room 44? But i’m aware that nobody lives there…” you wonder to yourself and sudden thoughts run your mind, maybe it’s a thief? But there’s nothing to steal… And so that leaves you with one last conclusion, someone must’ve moved in next door.
Your new neighbor is very noisy. There’s always banging coming in from the next room late at night and it bothers you a lot… you’ve finally decided to confront him soon about it.
-
Usually you would hangout with your best friend at her place today, but this time you wanted to watch your favorite TV series alone at home.
You felt a strange sensation as you realized how silent things were, you were relieved that your eardrums were given a break from the noise. But you spoke too soon… A deafening bang hits the wall next room “BOOM!”
You get up, furious and angry, stomping your way outside to find yourself knocking on room 44’s door.
-
The door slowly opens, and you suddenly realize that you let your anger get the best of you.
A tall, handsome man was leaning on the doorframe. White frosted fluffy hair, deep crystal eyes hiding behind a pair of round dark sunglasses, a perfect nose and a grin was making its way on his lips. He was wearing a light blue shirt and dark baggy pants.
You can’t help but admit that he’s exactly your type… You get carried away admiring the man, your cheeks turn red and you rudely stare at him to admire his features. You got lost in his beauty that you almost forgot the reason you’re standing in front of him.
He tilts his head, greeting you “Well hey beautiful,” You can’t help but blush at his deep voice that just complimented you. Still you refuse to get easily swayed, “I’m from the room next door, you’ve been making a lot of noise ever since you moved in and it’s very bothersome. I can’t even sleep the night in peace.” you huffed while crossing your arms and tapping your foot.
He chuckled, “Are you sure you can’t sleep the night? You look too pretty for someone who didn’t get an an ounce of sleep.” he began. You got a bit annoyed because he’s not taking you and your complaints seriously, Not to mention, it seemed sarcastic because you knew you look horrible these days.
“Quit joking around would you, sir? I’m not here to play around or waste time. You’d better keep the noise down or I’ll have to file a complaint..” you scoffed while looking up to find his eyes. Why does he wear sunglasses indoor anyways? And at 9pm for God’s sake…
Before finishing that thought he interrupted, “Alright I’m sorry, it’s because I had visitors these last couple of days and they’re pretty noisy and a bit.. chaotic let’s say. But I wasn’t joking when I said you’re pretty.”
That was a bit unexpected, you thought he would drag it on considering his immatureness at the beginning. A smile escapes your lips and soon you chip in, “Thank you sir, I’ll head back then. I hope you have a good night.” You get ready to turn around and walk back into your room, however you feel a hand pulling ur shirt gently. “It’s Satoru Gojo.”
“What?” “…Gojo, that’s my name since you insist on calling me sir… I don’t even look that old...” he corrected you while pouting.
You can’t help but let out a giggle, “I’m y/n, Gojo, it’s nice to meet you.” you hummed.
“Do you have plans?” he asked, “Hm, well for now, not really.” you responded and it didn’t take him a second to say “Would you like to come in? Let’s have a drink together. I’d like to get to know each other. We’re neighbors after all.” he suggested, taking his sunglasses off.
“Sure,” you replied. That came out so suddenly.. you knew better than to enter a man’s house especially one that you just met above all… However, you just couldn’t help refusing after clearly seeing his gorgeous yet sharp blue eyes, staring at you with an excited look.
“Come in!” he cheered, moving out of the way and holding the door open as you entered the apartment.
In my ongoing attempt to convince people to watch this movie (because it is so fucking good you have no idea), I put together this list of reasons why you need to watch this film. Sorry, but I can't be normal about this:
None of the backgrounds or environments are CGI! Those mountains? Those are the Andes! That's the real Valley of Tears! While filming with the actors was done in a different location (I believed they filmed in the Sierra Nevadas?), location photography and filming was done in the Andes and then spliced accordingly into the film.
It's an ensemble piece! Until now, most movies/docs/books have (understandably) focused almost exclusively on Nando Parrado and Roberto Canessa because of their 10 day trek through the mountains. But the group was more than just the two of them and this film shows that by emphasizing everyone's importance and roles in their survival.
Having said that, NANDO PARRADO IS THE FUCKING GOAT. This guy fractured his skull during the crash which caused his brain to swell. Everyone thought he was dead at first and only brought him back inside the plane when someone noticed he was still breathing. Even then, he wasn't expected to survive for very long so the others placed him where it was coldest which ended up saving his life as the cold temperature along with dehydration helped bring the swelling in his brain down. He was in a coma for three days, woke up to learn his mother was dead and his sister was dying, and decided, "Fuck this, I am getting off this mountain and you're all doing it with me." AND THEN HE DID, part of which involved hiking for 10 days across the Andes with NO GEAR.
The decision to make Numa Turcatti the narrator was brilliant. I cannot say more due to spoilers but iykyk.
Speaking of other films (looking at you, 1993's "Alive"), this movie cast exclusively Uruguayan (and some Argentinian) actors in order to give it proper authenticity.
This movie does not fuck around, with the crash happening within the first 15 minutes of the movie. And it is horrible in that it is probably one of the most accurate portrayals of a plane crash? I don't like flying, and I was incredibly anxious watching it to the point where I thought initially I might have to turn it off. But despite this, it never feels exploitive or anything. Just... real.
The entire movie was shot chronologically in order to give the make-up team an easier time with getting the actors to look increasingly gaunt and disheveled as well as adding a tighter consistency between shots and scenes. Many of the actors lost upwards of 50 lbs by the time filming was concluded.
For the avalanche scene, the actors were buried under nearly 8 inches of real snow. Because of this, the redness of their skin isn't the work of make-up or special effects but is very real.
Michael Giacchino's score. But even more importantly, his use of silence.
Honestly, this movie feels genuinely cold in a way that most movies and tv shows never quite capture. The sound of frozen clothing crunching, the frost that covers them, the clear impact of cold and frost on hair and skin, the shaking and shivering. It's really hard to describe, but like... it didn't feel like these were just actors on a set walking around. It felt genuinely cold.
The payada (rhyming/rap battle) was entirely improvised by the actors.
Enzo Vogrincic (Numa) looks like a young Adam Driver. You know you want to watch him stare soulfully into the camera for two hours. (But really, the acting in this movie is phenomenal.)
For Cold Boy fanciers, Gustavo Zerbino is basically the group's Goodsir - a cinnamon roll doing his best.
Fito Strauch's homemade sunglasses!
I could write an essay about the way the film confronts and portrays the cannibalism. Since I've rambled on long enough, let me just say here that it feels authentic in the way it's handled and not like you typically expect to see in stories like the Franklin Expedition, the Essex, or the Donner Party. (My only criticism is that it looks like they used raw chicken as the meat? And I unfortunately happen to know that human meat very much does not look like chicken.)
MOST IMPORTANTLY, this movie gives voices to those who didn't survive the mountains. And yes, it is a story about survival (and is a wonderful portrayal of positive masculinity) but it is really a story about love. Love for one's friends. Love for each other. And how love is the only way we survive.
#i am not normal about this film okay#sorry not sorry#but it's so crunchy and leaves you with so much to think about#i'm really sad it never got any theatrical showings near me#Youtube
#2 and shouto for the random dialogue prompts !!!¡¡¡
kissing the top of ur pretty head mwuah
The lunch rush at the agency is finally over by the time the clock strikes 2 pm, but only two of you remain in the break room, having both taken late lunches, and the air is so frigidly tense, you wonder if Shoto is actually surreptitiously using his Quirk.
He hasn't said a word to you since you entered thirty minutes ago, and you had two options - 1. to ignore him too, or 2. to confront him dead on - and you chose the former. After all, Shoto must be used to getting whatever he wants from others, just because of the simple fact that he naturally already has it all, whether it's looks, charm, money, ability, you know it. Why indulge him this time too?
So rather than step around him sitting in the center of the room, picking at an elaborately decorated bento, you decide to set yourself down directly in front of him, loudly unwrapping your bowl of instant ramen noodles right where he can see you.
Time passes.
Shoto and you are not the best of friends, but you are not enemies. In fact, some would say you are rather fond of one another for coworkers, or at least he hangs around you like a lost puppy looking for guidance. Perhaps you're the one slighted by the lack of attention. Ever since the company party two days ago, it's been as though you no longer exist to him, and you wish he would simply tell you the truth -
that he saw you get handsy with one of the younger rookies, and that he's mad because he wishes it were him.
You've wanted Shoto to ask you out properly for weeks, and your patience is wearing thin...
And then it tears to shreds the moment he gets up to leave, the leg of his chair scraping obnoxiously loud against the flooring. It might be intentional.
"Why are you mad?" you finally say. Your voice is a little less bold than it means to be, and rather pleading; you feel like it betrays you.
Shoto looks at you with an expression that isn't really disdain or really hurt, but just the faintest bit of irritation. Then he looks away.
"I'm not mad, I just think you can choose better people to kiss."
You pause again, but a mixture of annoyance and desperation spurs you on.
"Like you?"
Shoto had already started walking towards the door but stops in his tracks as he marches just past you. You turn and he's glaring at you again, and the room grows still colder even if his skin has not started to frost.
"What are you implying?" he asks. There's an edge to his voice that makes you bolder. You want him to feel something, hopefully as much as you do for him. Anything.
"Would you be a better person to kiss, Shoto Todoroki?" you press.
By now he should leave, and let you sit in shame alone in the break room with your instant noodles and your shaky pride but instead he replies simply,
"Yes."
You blink. You didn't expect to win this easily, and now you're not sure what's next aside from the quickening of your heartbeat.
And then he moves quickly - leaning in, his lips brush ever so gently against yours, his hand rested on your shoulder, somewhere between intimacy but also keeping you still, in your place.
It's only for a split second that he kisses you but time seems to stop. Perhaps infinitely.
Shoto rises and smiles, triumphant.
"I guess I am better. You didn't make that face with him."
Jack o' Frost Ep 5 & 6 Thoughts
I think you guys were playing a prank on me telling me to watch this show. Was that what happened? Is this payback for all of my cruel polls? Did I deserve this? It’s fine. It’s fine. I am going to try my best to enjoy the final two episodes. Because I need to. THERE IS GOOD IF I JUST LOOK FOR IT and ignore the very bad things. It’s fine. Time to watch:
I don’t blame Ritsu for being hurt by Mr. Lyingface but also why is his response complete and utter avoidance? My guy. Go confront him. Make him own up to his actions. Then you two can talk it out. Or not. It’s not your fault he withheld this from you. But your response to learning about it is not great either.
I don’t care about what’s happening right now but I am VIBING with this music. Guitar and strings? Excellent.
Oh no music went away booooo.
If even the ex boyfriend is like “y’all…need to talk” then perhaps forcing the relationship isn’t a good idea and you should both give yourselves a break. A chance to move on with your lives and be happy.
Wow. Okay. This is a conversation that should have been had before you got to this point of anger my guy. My dude. If Ritsu has been constantly flaking on you and forgetting your dates, this needed to be brought up not in a fit of anger on his birthday. Is Ritsu wrong for it? Absolutely. Should he be making adjustments to make sure he doesn’t flake on you? Yes. Was this the proper response to it happening? No. In this situation they both suck. But I think yelling at Ritsu, on his birthday, while he’s drunk, was not it. Has he even brought it up before? Based on his earlier conversation with Tomoko, I’m gonna say no. That he waited until it reached his boiling point and he exploded. Which is not a productive way to solve issues.
And now Ritsu is acting like a petulant child. Am I supposed to want these two together? Nope. Not unless they get counseling.
Dude. Listen. As someone who is also bad at talking about how I feel…you cannot be this way in a relationship. You just can’t. You have to be willing to compromise and talk about it even a little bit. Otherwise you will not have a relationship. It will either blow up like your relationship with Ritsu did. Or it will fizzle out. If you want something that lasts you have to be willing to open up when you’re hurting. It hurts the other person more if you don’t.
Gotta pause. My coworker is sending memes in the group chat.
Ritsu is right. He can’t fix his behavior if he isn’t told he’s hurting Mr. Lyingface. He can’t reflect on it if he doesn’t know. This goes for before and after the amnesia as well. Do I think he should have to be told to stop flaking on his boyfriend? No. He should try to make sure he’s making time for him BUT sometimes when people get busy, they don’t realize what they’re doing or who they’re ignoring. I have been in both positions of being ignored and doing the ignoring and I gotta say. It’s very easy to not realize you’re ignoring someone. It hurts so, so incredibly bad to be ignored by someone who you love so dearly, but sometimes they just…don’t realize. I say this as someone who shuts down when hurt. I also say this as someone who had someone blow up at me the way Mr. Lyingface blew up at Ritsu. Guess who I don’t talk to anymore. And this is someone I loved a lot. I miss her so much. She remains a part of me. I can’t erase her from me any more than I can erase one of my limbs attached to my body. But in the end, we could not communicate. The same way these two can’t communicate. These two should not be together. They just should not be. It is not fair to either of them if neither can compromise. Sometimes it is best to acknowledge the love. To know it happened. And then to let it go. Keep the memories in your heart and in your soul. But give yourself the grace to find happiness without them.
Anyway time for episode 6 and then I can move on to my next binge of the day.
He’s running again. Ugh the cardio. Maybe I should go on a jog. It’s been awhile.
Fluffy pancakes…mmmmmmmm. Gimme.
SAILBOAT
I forgive everything. This show gave me a sailboat.
I’m indifferent to these two but this MUSIC. Has me in a chokehold.
They’re gonna fuck on that couch again.
Last time they did that, they broke up immediately after.
Well. That’s a show I watched. I hope you guys liked my liveblog. I had fun. Well I had fun liveblogging. This was not my favorite show but it also wasn’t the worst? I hope those two get couples therapy or they will not last. They never really resolved their issues. But I do enjoy writing out my thoughts as I watch things. I will liveblog something else later. Maybe another show from my poll? We’ll see.
hiiii could i pls request "i'm not going to just up and leave, Y/N." with ollie bearman?
Ollie Bearman- Opposites Attract
a/n: thank you for requesting! we got a short one today :)
pairing: ollie bearman x female reader
summary: ollie's been distant for some time, and you finally confront him about it.
warnings: angst, cursing?
word count: 630
not my gif!
~
Lately you had felt distant from your boyfriend, Ollie. He was more quiet than normal, and oftentimes seemed agitated when you were talking to him. You brushed it off, thinking he had a bad day, but then it turned into weeks and even two and a half months of this. You felt on edge whenever you were around him and sometimes wouldn’t even speak to him. You were worried he had found someone better, and would leave you at the drop of a hat. You knew it wasn’t good keeping this to yourself, but something was holding you back to talk to him about it.
Ollie had felt scared for the past few weeks. He had always loved you but it hit him suddenly that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with you. You guys had a date night and were building a gingerbread house together, and you were singing along to the Christmas music in the back, frosting in hand. Your eyebrows furrowed together as you attempted to glue together the roof. He stared at you in awe, thinking you looked extremely gorgeous despite you wearing your hair up and an old t-shirt. It hit him right then and there that you were his other half. Nothing could ever take you away from him, and he couldn’t fathom the idea of losing you to someone that could treat you less than you deserved. This caused Ollie to act the way that he did for the past month or so.
Yes, it was not his best plan to shy away from you, but it just kind of happened. He felt like his brain was going into overdrive, and the only way he thought to save your relationship was to stay away. He thought his thoughts and fears would bleed into your own, which would eventually scare you enough to leave.
One day you finally had enough and decided to talk to him about it. You wanted Ollie back. He came home a little earlier than you anticipated and mustered enough courage to walk up to him and ask what was going on. He said that he was ‘fine’ and that you ‘didn’t have to worry about it’ which is when you got fed up and finally blurted out your worry.
“I’m not just gonna up and leave, Y/N.”
You were shocked. Why would he be seemingly avoiding you at all costs if he wasn’t going to leave? Why was he being weird and distant if that was the case?
“I want to do just the opposite.”
You were so confused. “What?”
“Look, I don’t have a ring or anything, but I want to marry you. I love you too much to see you with anyone else. I was scared these past few weeks because I’ve never felt this way towards anyone. And I know how stupid that is but I’ve been so afraid that I pushed you away. I’m sorry. I really do want to marry you… I was just scared to say something I guess.”
Though odd, you believed him. You had known Ollie since you were a kid and it all started to make sense. Whenever he got scared he would run away and the next few days he would be quiet.
“Oh.” You felt bad for bringing it up.
“Love, it’s not your fault, okay?”
“I know, but I still feel like a dick, though.”
“Y/N, there is nothing you could do or say that would make me leave. I love you for who you are, and that’s not going to change anytime soon. I want to be with you… permanently. If that’s something you want, of course.”
“It is.” You said, with a smile on your face.
“Then let’s do it, my love.”
Of Two Worlds (Book 3) Chapter Eleven
Fushiguro Megumi x Half-Curse! Reader
Chapter Eleven: Torn
Summary: Everything just gets so much worse, and (Y/N) makes a decision. So do other people.
Mouse Note: I'll be taking another pause from here since I need to see more of the manga to decide how things go :) I hope you guys understand. Thank you for reading so far with me! (Also, I'm sorry about today)
An earthquake shook the ground and punctuated (Y/N)’s words. She was absolutely right; Gojo was already on a search to confront Kenjaku. From the city nearby, the buildings trembled, and several still standing crumbled from the force. Gojo’s power was as formidable as ever.
(Y/N) turned and ran towards the city without saying anything to anyone. She wasn’t going to stand there if there was a chance to face Kenjaku (and Sukuna).
“(L/N)!” called Itadori in alarm.
Nanami took off after (Y/N), and several others followed her. The sounds of blows being exchanged was clear as soon as they entered the city. (Y/N) only stopped moving when she arrived at the edge of a battlefield where Kenjaku and Gojo stood across from each other. (Y/N) wanted to step forward, but Nanami grabbed her and pulled her back.
“No,” he said sternly. “Let Gojo handle this.”
(Y/N)’s eyes narrowed. She didn’t like not being able to fight Kenjaku when there was a chance.
But everyone else could see Gojo’s gaze as he looked down at Kenjaku. His jacket was torn, and his blindfold was gone. His piercing blue eyes were focused, and he lacked a smile. No one could tell what Gojo was going to do, and with power such as his, it was best to let him move first.
(Y/N) was the only one who didn’t give a damn, but she wasn’t going to fight against Nanami. (That, and she was saving her energy for when Sukuna appeared).
“It’s been a while, no?” said Kenjaku, smirking at Gojo. “Have a nice rest?”
“I think you should pick your words more wisely.” Gojo looked down upon Kenjaku. “They’re about to be your last.”
Limitless activated, and red struck down at Kenjaku, but it collided into something midair. Everyone squinted against the wind and light until it cleared. Gojo landed and narrowed his eyes at the new arrival who had blocked his attack.
“Heh. I’ve got a new body, but I’m still gonna kill you,” said Sukuna, standing across from Gojo in a yukata of black and white. Ren and Uraume stood beside him.
(Y/N)’s eyes widened, and her curse marks glowed faintly as her emotions were sent into a whirl upon seeing Megumi’s face again. Sukuna was still manipulating him and treating his body as his own, and (Y/N) despised it. The hatred she felt for Sukuna was deeper than any other she had ever felt. He was trying to take Megumi from her.
Gojo’s eyes narrowed, but he grinned wildly. “You ran away from Yuuji and (Y/N), but now you wanna talk tough? How sad, dude!”
“How dare you?” hissed Uraume, narrowing their eyes as frost collected around them.
Gojo moved faster than the eye could see and struck Uraume, sending them flying before they could activate their technique. Ren caught them and dodged the next blow from Gojo as Mastermind calculated his next attack.
“Tch. You again,” said Gojo as he regarded her. She had helped imprison him in the Prison Realm, and it was clear her intelligence was formidable.
Ren didn’t respond and kept a watch on Uraume. They were her priority, not Gojo. Not when there was too much for her and Uraume to worry about already. She glanced at the other watchers of the confrontation.
Sukuna tensed, and his cursed energy activated to retaliate against Gojo for attacking his spouse and wife. (Y/N)’s cold cursed energy collected, and a katana began to form in her hand as she readied herself to join the fight. Damn Kenjaku and Gojo’s power, she wanted to force Sukuna out of Megumi’s body.
“Wait, Sukuna,” said Kenjaku, jumping down beside Sukuna. “Keep your promise to me before fighting him.”
Sukuna and (Y/N)’s cursed energy dissipated as the beginning of the fight was interrupted.
Gojo smirked. “The almighty Sukuna is taking orders from that patched up old bag?” However, he was disguising his true thoughts. Clearly, Kenjaku and Sukuna were close in some sort of binding vow. That presented problems Gojo would need to handle.
Sukuna paused and sighed dramatically. “Very well.”
“What’s the date?” said Gojo.
“November nineteenth,” said Kenjaku.
“What say we do this December twenty-fourth?” suggested Gojo.
(Y/N)’s eyes widened. Was Gojo really organizing a time to fight Sukuna? What about saving Megumi? What about bringing him back? Gojo was throwing that away.
“Ha!” Kenjaku laughed. “Isn’t it gross to make plans with each other on Christmas Eve?”
“Well, having two death anniversaries would be confusing,” said Gojo.
(Y/N)’s curse marks had energy coursing through them in an icy reminder of what Gojo was suggesting. Fighting Sukuna. Killing Sukuna. Killing Megumi.
“You don’t expect to lose?” said Kenjaku.
“Hah.” Gojo smirked and looked steadily upon Kenjaku. “No.”
Sukuna smirked. “We shall see.”
Then he turned away and jumped out of the pit with Ren and Uraume behind him. Kenjaku gave Gojo a wave, turned to face the watchers above, smirked at (Y/N) who narrowed her eyes in response, and left.
Gojo waited until the curses were gone before leaving the battlefield. Instantly, the group of sorcerers waiting for him ran to meet him.
“Gojo-sensei!” cried Itadori, running up to hug him.
Gojo smiled at Itadori, relieved to see that at least one of his students was relatively alright. Just by looking over everyone else he could tell that so much had gone wrong since he was sealed.
“Welcome back,” said Ieri, smiling slightly. Maki nodded to him.
“It’s about time,” said Nanami.
“It is,” said Gojo, smiling.
His eyes passed over the group. His gaze saddened upon seeing Maki and Nanami’s scars, and his eyes widened as he saw Tsumiki awake and present at the back of the group. Sadly, she had not been seen by Megumi, and Sukuna had retained the tight control he had over the boy’s soul.
And then his eyes landed on (Y/N), and he was met with a completely different girl than the one he had when he had left. (Y/N)’s gloves were gone, leaving an array of curse marks bare to the air, and her hair was partly white. The most extreme change, however, was her eyes. Instead of an emotionless expression, there was a cold fury as she gazed at him.
“(Y/N)?” he said, almost questioning if this was the same student he had before.
“Are you really going to kill Sukuna?” said (Y/N).
“Yes,” said Gojo.
“What about Megumi?” asked Tsumiki, clasping her hands together.
“You know your brother. He’d want to protect you and everyone else first. If that means killing Sukuna, then you know what he’d be willing to risk,” said Gojo.
“Sacrifice Megumi to kill Sukuna?” hissed (Y/N), clenching her fists. Her emotions were raging within her and spilled out in a way she never allowed herself to show to others.
“Yes,” said Gojo. He gazed at (Y/N), saddened. “You know it’s what he’d want.”
“I don’t care what he would want,” said (Y/N) fiercely. “I want to save Megumi.”
Itadori looked down. “(L/N), I know how Fushiguro feels right now.” He too had been willing to sacrifice himself to kill Sukuna.
“And I said I don’t care,” snapped (Y/N), whirling on Itadori. Her eyes blazed silver.
“(Y/N),” said Gojo. “I’m doing what’s necessary to protect the world.”
“What about protecting Megumi?” said (Y/N).
“The world is more important,” said Gojo.
(Y/N)’s eyes narrowed, bright silver irises piercing into Gojo’s blue. “You might be willing to sacrifice the people you care about, but I’m not.”
Gojo started at the sharp words.
“I won’t sit here and watch you kill Megumi,” said (Y/N), clenching her fists.
“Sukuna has consumed his soul already,” said Gojo softly, sadly.
“No. Megumi’s still alive,” said (Y/N).
Gojo’s eyes softened. (Y/N) was unwilling to see the truth that he could see. Megumi was gone. “(Y/N)—”
“I would know if he was gone,” said (Y/N). She held her hand over her heart. “I would know. But he’s not. I can feel it.”
“It took me time to realize the Suguru I knew was gone, too,” said Gojo softly. “I understand, (Y/N).”
“If you understand, then you know I won’t stand by while you fight Sukuna and risk killing Megumi,” said (Y/N).
“(Y/N), you can’t fight Sukuna,” said Gojo.
“You don’t know what I can and can’t do,” said (Y/N), and her curse marks lit up.
“(Y/N).” Nanami reached out to (Y/N). “Don’t go running into a battle you can’t win. Fushiguro-kun wouldn’t want you getting hurt.”
(Y/N) paused and looked at Nanami. Now that did get to her. Megumi wouldn’t want her running into battle and getting herself killed. (Y/N) knew that. But…
“I can’t sit by and support Gojo hurting him,” said (Y/N). She took a step back. “I won’t.”
“What are you doing, (Y/N)?” asked Tsumiki.
 “I’m leaving.”
Itadori’s eyes widened with Tsumiki’s, and Nanami started. Gojo gazed at (Y/N) worriedly.
“You’re what?” he said.
“I’m leaving,” repeated (Y/N), gazing at Gojo steadily. “I refuse to watch you hurt Megumi.”
“(Y/N),” said Gojo, reaching out to her.
“I’m sorry,” said (Y/N), backing away. “But I can’t stay here if it means supporting Megumi getting killed.” She crouched, and cursed energy condensed around her.
“(Y/N)!” said Nanami, reaching out to the girl he viewed as his own daughter, and she cast a sad look at him. Nanami’s eyes widened, and he tried to grab her, but she leapt into the air and disappeared into the city. “(Y/N)!”
She refused to look back again.
l
(Y/N) came to a stop within the city only when she felt new cursed energy around her. It was no one she knew, and she pivoted, striking through a wall of ice with her katana before it hit her. The monk, Uraume, that had been by Sukuna side stood a ways away from her.
“Here without your lord?” said (Y/N), glancing around her.
“Yes.”
(Y/N) whirled, but it was too late. The powerful attack from Uraume had obscured the subtler cursed energy of Ren, and she was behind (Y/N) already. She sunk a needle into the half-curse’s neck, and (Y/N) fell limp.
“Ordinarily, I’d not risk Uraume,” said Ren. “But to trap you…I needed to obscure your senses.”
“What’re you…” (Y/N) tried to force the words out, but her body was numb.
“Just relax,” said Ren, picking up (Y/N) and carrying her into the building.
All (Y/N) could do was look around herself at the building. It was an observatory with the canopy open to point at the moon and stars.
“It worked?”
(Y/N)’s eyes widened as Nox, her father, stepped out of the shadows.
“Yes,” said Ren as Nox took (Y/N) from her. “Uraume had to expend much of their energy, but they managed to obscure my cursed energy.” She glanced at (Y/N) before returning to look at Nox. “We’re fortunate it worked. A second time and her senses would have already adapted.”
“My children are fast learners,” said Nox, kneeling and supporting (Y/N).
“What…” (Y/N) tried to speak again, but the words just weren’t coming.
“Relax, my star,” said Nox, smiling gently at her. “This is all for the best.”
Ren glanced up at the moon in the sky. “It’s best to start now. This will take time, and the moon is at its zenith.”
Nox nodded and cupped (Y/N)’s face. “I promise, my star, everything is going to be alright. This time, I’ll protect you. I won’t lose you again.” He smiled kindly at his daughter.
And then Nox tore out (Y/N)’s heart.
She cried out, and her visions blurred as her body tried helplessly to keep going. “N-No…”
“It’s all going to be okay,” promised Nox, holding (Y/N)’s black heart in his hand.
(Y/N)’s eyes closed, and her body went limp. Her torso was broken open at the chest. Blood and gore fell from where her heart should be. However, within the cavern, the hint of stars stared out, like she held the sky itself inside her chest, making up for the lack of heart.
New Holidays
Continuity: IDW1
Rating: General
Relationship: Background Megatron/Rodimus Characters: Megatron, Nautica, Velocity
Summary: In which Nautica and Velocity forcibly invite Megatron into partaking in an annual festival.
Takes place after the events of Reforged. A not-quite Hanukkah fic
Crossposting: AO3 | Dreamwidth
Fic below cut.
Velocity deposited a tray full of small, blue pucks smothered in some kind of pale frosting and presumably flavored shavings on his desk, an absolutely gleeful grin on her face. Nautica stood at her side, also beaming.
It had been a long time since Megatron had felt so threatened.
“What’s the meaning of this?” he asked, giving the colorful pucks a skeptical squint.
These looked… festive.
But why?
He knew that the Way of Flame had a minor festival this time of year, paradoxically celebrating the rare corrosive, midwinter rains on the arid moon (even when it was only winter in one hemisphere); he had read extensively about the religious calendar to be sure that he wouldn’t be caught being inappropriately impious whenever they were on Caminus. The last thing they needed was to lose their one safe harbor.
However, he hadn’t really expected to be confronted with religious holidays while they were away on the Lost Light. There were only two Camiens aboard and neither Nautica nor Velocity had shown much interest in openly celebrating any cultural or religious events. At least, not that Megatron was aware of.
Now, though, as opposed to the last time this festival would have rolled around during the ship’s adventures, one thing was markedly different: Megatron was now, nominally, an adherent to the same faith.
Belief or lack thereof aside, the red paint under his eyes spoke to a level of socio-cultural belonging. He was one of them whether he liked it or not.
“These are Imbrix cookies.”
Velocity’s grin could have been classified as a weapon capable of city-level destruction. No medic should have that level of cheer, not on a ship full of idiots who were prone to hurting themselves at the slightest provocation.
“See?” She pointed to the little blue sprinkles; they twinkled in the light, probably containing some manner of glitter. “These symbolize rain drops.”
Not terribly subtle symbolism, but he supposed subtlety was far from the point.
It was evident that Nautica and Velocity had gone to an awful lot of trouble to make these… cookies. Preparing Camien cuisine looked to be fairly time intensive compared to the Cybertronian preference for the occasional candy or overly complicated beverage.
The two crew members were practically vibrating where they stood while Megatron struggled with determining how to best respond to being so unavoidably confronted with the cultural implications of his gallows choices. He, frankly, hadn’t expected to live long enough to experience consequences.
Maybe if he ate one of the cookies…. Just one. That ought to satisfy their desire for religious solidarity and togetherness.
Megatron reached out and cautiously picked up one of the decorated cookies, holding it delicately like it might explode.
Maybe Rodimus would want one too. Was he allowed to save one for him? The Way of Flame didn’t have any particulars about food handling, having developed on a world of such scant resources, but Spectralism did… when it was convenient for Rodimus to get out of eating something he didn’t want.
Anything that could be interpreted as a treat was generally acceptable, even if it had been handled by non-Spectralists. Given that there were barely any more Spectralists aboard than the three adherents to the Way of Flame, Rodimus and his co-religionists had long ago had to accept some concessions for practicality.
Though, he doubted Rodimus would turn down a cookie, of all things.
Meanwhile, Nautica and Velocity were still aggressively beaming at him while he sat there, cookie in hand like a fool.
If it was going to explode, it would have by now. And taken his hand with it.
Might as well.
He popped it in his mouth.
“We’re having a brook building party later—We got you a kit to make it easy since it’s your first one.”
He nearly choked on the cookie.
--
The door slid shut as Nautica and Velocity left the captains’ quarters, well into the evening.
Water babbled in the artificial Imbrix “brook” Nautica and Velocity had forced him to assemble. A gift, they had called it when they had presented it to him at the “party” that they had decided would be in the captains’ quarters.
They had “forgotten” to take the speakers playing seasonally appropriate music with them. A calm voice extolling the virtues of getting caught in the frigid monsoon and letting their plating corrode in places as thanks for the moon’s natural cycles powering their way of life.
Streamers and bunting festooned the walls, the ceiling… all in colorful bursts of blue, green, and purple. Confetti littered the floor from where Velocity had thrown it into the air. The confetti had been the compromise to splashing him with a cup of water, a popular seasonal prank that had been deemed inappropriate to spring on someone who couldn’t be expecting it.
At least Rodimus had been on the bridge for the duration so he hadn’t been made to witness and enjoy Megatron’s discomfort.
Unfortunately, he would return home at any moment to partake in the aftermath.
Maybe Megatron could pacify his partner’s inevitable mockery with the tray of cookies that Nautica had decided to bake in the quarters’ small refinery. The sweet silvery smell of the precious metals used in the frosting still clung to the otherwise stale spaceship air.
At least they hadn’t brought over any engex, a courtesy to Megatron’s long-standing refusal to consume it.
The “brook” was a fountain, of sorts, meant to simulate a natural waterway filling a lake or reservoir slowly filling up over the course of ten days. Almost all the waterways on Caminus were seasonal: dry for the vast bulk of the year but annually filling to bursting when the torrential rains arrived. The month ahead of the festivities was used by engineers installing temporary hydrodynamic power equipment along these waterways to harness the energy. The month afterward was spent collecting the water for use in industrial applications.
Nautica and Velocity had gotten him a small one, the size to comfortably be set on a table for the duration of the holiday, rather than larger ones meant for public display. These were usually assembled by hand, but this had been a kit meant for new-builds learning how to celebrate for the first time, with the complicated pumps and fiddly components already prepared for installation.
After the whirlwind of “festivities” forced upon his living space by community-seeking crew members, Megatron found himself standing dumbly in front of the table that had been dragged to the center of the living area, watching the low level of water go about its short but elaborately turning course as the presently unfamiliar music echoed in the room.
He was to add a specified amount of water to its reserves each morning—at “sunrise”—of the festival, reciting a blessing each time. By the tenth morning, the reservoir from which the brook cycled would be completely full.
And the celebration would be complete.
On Caminus, it would be topped off by a festive communal feast, bracketed by songs and prayers of thanksgiving and mechs jumping into the seasonal lakes despite the risk of rust. The hydrobots would enjoy it, he thought.
Aboard the Lost Light, however, Nautica and Velocity had decided to simply include Megatron in their celebratory morning fueling, giving him an invitation to meet with them and recite the appropriate blessing in ten days. They couldn’t promise that he wouldn’t be splashed since he had now been warned.
Behind his back, the door to the hallway slid open.
“Whoa, babe, you had a party in here?”
A crime Megatron had never once before been accused of: throwing a house party. Today was full of all manner of new experiences.
He had even enjoyed most of them, but an entirely new holiday was a lot to take in all at once, especially with such an… enthusiastic community to welcome him into it.
Rather than explain why their shared quarters were covered in cheap, festive decorations or why he was standing in front of a display of domesticated hydro-engineering, Megatron merely sighed and pointed despondently towards the refinery.
“There are cookies.”
And he knew that in the morning, just as surely as he would correct the red paint under his optics, he would add water to the brook, say the blessing, and introspect.
Ciri & Riku: A Comparison
Hello, all!
If you've seen my Reigisa x SquidBob masterpost, you'll realize I am no stranger to comparing characters from totally different franchises. (Yes, I am mentioning that post yet again thank you very much!)
And as the title suggests, that is exactly what I intend to do right here, right now!
I mean, how could I not compare these two? They've each got four letters in their names, for one. Hello!? 😝
No, but in all seriousness, I simply had no choice but to make this post because I would probably go insane otherwise. You may find this insightful, or you may find that I'm living up to my URL. Either way, give it a read below the cut. 🤡⬇️
⚠️WARNING: There will be spoilers in this post
Physical Appearance
While they wouldn't be mistaken as twins or anything, you may have already noticed some physical similarities between Ciri and Riku just from the banner.
Swords drawn, stony expressions, battle stances ready. But most of all... a rather unique hair color. 👩🦳
Often a mark of the character having mystical origins, I immediately found it interesting that - despite being somewhat different shades - the ashen/silver hair was a trait that these two characters happened to share.
God they are so pretty
In addition to the hair, they both just happen to have distinctly green eyes. Like their eyes could literally be any other color, but nooo. They both have eye colors that fall within the green spectrum.
Interesting... 🤔
Personality and Defining Characteristics
While I've clowned a bit about their similar physical appearances, the similarities do run much deeper than that. Otherwise, I doubt I'd have much to say in this post - and I do have quite a bit to say.
So, let's start from the beginning, shall we?
Even as children, both Ciri and Riku are shown to have a desire to break free from circumstance and not be restrained. Growing up, their situations seem pretty great. However, neither of them see it that way.
For Ciri, she is actually a princess (which she isn't thrilled about), so she grew up in a royal palace before crossing paths with Geralt. However, traveling along the path like a witcher is what she sees as her ticket to freedom. That's precisely why the Witcher Ciri ending is seen as the "Good" or "Best" ending in the game - and I agree! It truly is. 😊
As for Riku, he grew up on what seems like an island paradise. Yet, he feels trapped and wants to see what else is out there. Namely, he wants to leave the islands and explore other worlds (coincidentally something he and Ciri have done during their respective adventures), which drives his whole narrative arc throughout the Kingdom Hearts series.
Something both Ciri and Riku are known for is their resilience and courage, which is often shown by them risking their lives for those they love and care about. Finding the strength to protect what matters, if you will.
"This is my story, not yours. You must let me finish telling it." (Ciri to Geralt, right before confronting the White Frost)
All in all, they can be fiercely independent and protective, having no issue taking matters into their own hands and doing things alone if it means everyone else will be safe from harm.
Both of them must ultimately face the foe that has haunted them throughout the game(s) - for Ciri, that comes in the form of the White Frost, while Riku must consistently face the Darkness.
Although, while this is primarily an outside threat in Ciri's case, the battle is equally external as it as internal for Riku.
(Riku facing the Demon Tide, moments before sacrificing himself for Sora)
While these two can undoubtedly buckle down and get serious when the time calls for it, Ciri and Riku do have playful and even sassy sides to their personalities - which are often shown by them bantering with and affectionately teasing Geralt and Sora, respectively. Examples here and here.
Side note: Having the option for Ciri to come to Corvo Bianco almost makes me not want to romance Yennifer (sorry Triss x Geralt fans, I'm a Yen x Geralt believer). I just adore their father/daughter banter 🤗
Gameplay
As you can see, Ciri and Riku are both incredibly important characters within their respective games despite not being the main character.
So, while you will spend most of your time playing as Geralt or Sora, there are brief intervals where you actually do get to play as Ciri and Riku.
In The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, there are various opportunities to play as Ciri. These often come in the form of the "Ciri's Story" main quests which detail her adventures as Geralt searches for her.
Meanwhile, you primarily play as Sora throughout the Kingdom Hearts numbered titles and spin-offs (with a few exceptions like 358/2 Days). Ironically enough, it's Kingdom Hearts 3 that enables you to play as Riku during certain story sequences in a similar fashion as Ciri.
Sure, there are other games like Dream Drop Distance and Chain of Memories where you can play as Riku much more extensively. However, the KH3 inclusion is notable as a main game and - technically - also being the third game, like Witcher 3.
He's also temporarily playable at one point during the battle with Xemnas in Kingdom Hearts 2, which kind of reminds me of the character-switching during Witcher 3's "Battle of Kaer Morhen" quest.
And if that wasn't curious enough, even some of their combat moves are similar. For example:
Riku's "Dark Aura" move is very similar to Ciri's "Blink" attack as they both use a teleportation mechanic to attack multiple enemies at once very quickly.
Ciri's "Charge" ability is similar to Riku's "Dark Roll," which allows them to dash out of harm's way in a flash.
As you can see, they both use a combination of magic and swordfighting techniques (or Keyblade, in Riku's case), making it fairly easy to draw comparisons between their fighting styles.
Role in the Story
As I mentioned above, Ciri and Riku aren't the main characters of their games, but they are still very important - both to the actual protagonist and the plot itself.
Essentially, they both have similarities that are woven deep within the story.
Let's dive a little deeper.
Relationship to Protagonist
"If two people share one, their destinies become intertwined. They'll remain a part of each other's lives... no matter what." (Riku telling Sora about the paopu fruit legend in Kingdom Hearts)
Upon looking at the text, it's clear that Ciri and Riku's destinies are intertwined with those of Geralt and Sora.
While Riku and Sora haven't explicitly shared a paopu fruit, as Riku's quote suggests (unless you count the Gayblade), that doesn't seem to matter as their stories consistently collide as the series progresses.
There have been sooo many analysis posts and videos on the implications of Sora and Riku's relationship - all of which are great!
But as an example, in Melody of Memory, it is Riku's dreams that are destined to lead him to Sora in Quadratum, where he went missing after abusing the Power of Waking.
In Dream Drop Distance, Yen Sid makes it explicitly clear that Riku "stands the better chance" of saving Sora from the darkness. Not Mickey, not Kairi, not anyone else - it has to be Riku.
In Kingdom Hearts, Riku's Keyblade comes to Sora's aid - which seems to be fairly unique to them as far as sharing Keyblades goes (i.e., no other character has done it).
Geralt and Ciri are also brought together by destiny.
Before Ciri's birth, Emhyr (known as "Duny" at the time) was under a curse. Geralt managed to cure him of his curse and when Duny asked what he wanted in return, Geralt invoked The Law of Surprise, which essentially states that he must give him "that which you possess, but do not yet know." Turns out, Pavetta was pregnant with Ciri and, thus, Ciri became Geralt's "Child of Surprise," binding their fates together.
"... Geralt and Ciri, however, are bound by something else. Something stronger than fate itself.” (excerpt from the Witcher series' second book, Sword of Destiny)
What makes this connection that much stronger is that while fate may have brought these characters together, it is ultimately their choice to continue down its path. Their respective love for each other and the bond they share transcends destiny by a long shot. And that is just beautiful. 🩵
I noted before that both Ciri and Riku can be headstrong and willing to face any danger for their friends' (particularly Geralt and Sora) sakes. But of course, they can't do this without their respective protagonists giving them the encouragement they need to persevere in the face of their hardships.
In fact, for Ciri, Geralt's actions towards her actually play a huge role in determining her fate at the end of the game. If Geralt is a bad dad, she can literally die as a result.
Riku's primarily goal throughout the series is to protect Sora - even at the latter's insistence that he doesn't have to do everything on his own. To Riku, "everything is for Sora."
Obviously, the relationships between Riku & Sora and Ciri & Geralt are vastly different in nature.
Ciri and Geralt have a relationship that closely resembles that of a daughter and father, and they sometimes even refer to each other as such and accept that as their relationship.
On the other hand, Riku and Sora are best friends. Oftentimes, their relationship borders on not-so-platonic, with the two of them not even feeling comfortable with defining their bond as brotherly, per the character files.
Despite these differences, it's evident that Ciri and Riku both consider Geralt and Sora to be the person who is most precious to them.
With that said, I do want to segue from our deuteragonists to focus on our main heroes for a sec.
While it would be somewhat humorous to try and compare Geralt and Sora, they do have a common goal: finding Ciri and Riku.
Geralt's primarily quest for much of Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is finding Ciri and protecting her from the dark forces that are after her (will talk about more in the next sub-section).
In Chain of Memories and Kingdom Hearts 2, Sora is dead-set on finding and rescuing Riku.
Not to throw Kairi under the bus (I swear, I'm a Kairi supporter), but even when she gets captured, Sora doesn't really seem to waver on his goal to find Riku. Yes, he now wants to find both of his friends, but his priorities don't shift away from Riku, despite Kairi being in imminent danger.
And then, when the lost is finally found, there's the emotional reunion. 🥹
I'm just going to put the clips here because they speak for themselves.
youtube
youtube
I literally tear up every time I watch the scene between Ciri and Geralt here. The momentary despair turned into relief, the flashbacks, the music. Honestly, the buildup to this moment couldn't have been better, in my opinion. 👏
And the reunion between Sora and Riku (and Kairi) is probably the very scene that led me - and many others - to start seeing their relationship romantically. Even if Riku doesn't quite look like himself here, Sora can still see him for who he really is.
Therefore, these reunions are pivotal!
Speaking of which, something else I noticed was the presence of light or how Ciri/Riku are acting as Geralt/Sora's guiding light in the darkness.
I will just link the "Riku is the Light" masterpost by @blowingoffsteam2 for some additional reading, but this essentially details how, throughout the series, Riku has been just as much of a light for Sora as Sora has been for him.
How does this relate to Ciri and Geralt, you may ask?
Leading up to the scene I linked above, Geralt travels to the Isle of Mists to find Ciri, which is not a smooth journey by any means. It's foggy, dark, and generally impossible to navigate on one's own.
Except, Geralt is not alone.
Accompanying him to the Isle of Mists is a tiny ball of light. 🌟
As you may have noticed from the clip above, this ball of light turns out to be part of Ciri herself. Or, in Kingdom Hearts terms, this ball of light could be from her heart.
In Kingdom Hearts, it's heavily implied that Sora was given the Keyblade in the first place when he touched the light of Riku's heart before his fall to darkness.
We've seen very similar imagery of hearts rejoining with the body in Kingdom Hearts, waking the person and making them whole again.
Naturally, in the first game, it's the Disney Princesses getting their hearts back.
Ciri is technically a princess in her own right, but she is also being directly paralleled with Snow White - a Disney Princess and a "Princess of Heart" in KH. Like Snow White, she is trapped in a death slumber while being protected by 7 dwarves, only to be awakened by the power of true (fatherly) love.
(Cry with me 🥹😭)
With the Princess of Heart connection, I suppose this instance could be both a Riku and Kairi parallel. I'm open to that interpretation, but the fact that the light guided Geralt to Ciri (a.k.a. the person most precious to him) makes me primarily connect this with Riku's light guiding Sora, like in the KH3 example below.
(Not to mention the ample Disney Princess parallels between them as well)
Anyways, I hope Riku and Sora get an emotional reunion in Kingdom Hearts 4 that has me absolutely weeping. 🙏
Terra and Geralt
I've mentioned how the relationships between Ciri/Geralt and Riku/Sora differ in nature.
Geralt's connection with Ciri made it possible for her to learn the ways of a witcher and become one herself (sans mutations). Ciri sees Geralt as more of a father than her actual one.
But as it turns out, Riku has also had an older figure in his life that made it possible for him to learn the way of the Keyblade.
Enter Terra!
Terra, unfortunately, hasn't played nearly as big a role in Riku's journey as Geralt has for Ciri. Although, Terra being guided to Destiny Islands by Riku's light and bestowing him with the Keyblade plays a massive role in Riku's story from this point forward.
Now, I sincerely hope you didn't expect to go through this post without some clownery because I am here to deliver! 🤡
One of the reasons Terra didn't have a huge role in training Riku with the Keyblade was because he was overtaken by darkness, specifically Master Xehanort's darkness.
When Terra becomes possessed by Xehanort's heart, turning him into "Terranort," he undergoes a rather interesting transformation.
Yes, that's right. White hair and yellow eyes.
In Kingdom Hearts, these characteristics tend to be attributed to those who have been "Norted" or possessing fragments of Xehanort.
Coincidentally enough, it also seems to describe the appearance of a certain Geralt of Rivia, a witcher who has undergone advanced mutations that also gave him those traits.
*SCREAMING*
I warned you about the clownery here, but... are you kidding me with this!?
I mean, c'mon!
Target of Dark Forces
I've talked a bit about how Ciri and Riku are fighting against the White Frost and the Darkness, respectively, at the climax of their narratives.
However, there are other dark forces in hot pursuit, hoping to use them for their own purposes.
For the majority of Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Ciri is on the run from the titular villains - a group of hostile Aen Elle elves known as the "Wild Hunt" or Dearg Ruadhri (Red Riders). This group is led by Eredin, King of the Wild Hunt.
I will discuss this more in-depth later, but Ciri's abilities come from a gene she possesses known as Elder Blood, which originated with the Aen Elle. Being part of this race, the Wild Hunt want to capture Ciri in order to reintroduce the gene back into their bloodline.
The Wild Hunt are frequently compared to phantoms and shadows, said to be omens of war. Also, they murder unicorns, so they're total dicks.
Sounds kind of like darkness, huh?
In the books, Ciri - albeit reluctantly - does concede and do what they want, before making her escape when it doesn't go according to plan.
During the events of Kingdom Hearts, Ansem, Seeker of Darkness, plays a similar role in trying to compel Riku to the darkness with the goal of using him for his own means. He even goes as far as to take control over Riku's body towards the end of the game.
Unlike Ciri, Riku gives into Ansem's plans more willingly and acts more as an antagonist in this game as a result - a decision he later spends the rest of the series trying to atone for.
But it isn't just Eredin/the Wild Hunt and Ansem trying to get a piece of the Ciri and Riku pie. 🍰
Along Ciri's journey, she encounters a trio of creepy witch sisters known as The Crones. Or the Ladies of the Wood, if you're a naïve villager.
The Crones are... how do I put this?
Grotesque. Morbid. Evil.
(And yes, they eat people. Children, specifically.)
When they come across a weakened Ciri during her journey, they recognize that she possesses Elder Blood. They debate whether to turn her over to Eredin or eat her themselves.
While Ciri manages to escape them before they can turn her into stew (and kills them later on), they are highly calculating and manipulative, preying on the whims and desires of anyone who crosses their path.
"Manipulative," "calculating," and "preying" are words that could also be used to describe another evil witch who intends to use our gifted child for ill will.
Of course I'm referring to Maleficent. The Mistress of Evil, herself.
Throughout the first game, Maleficent preys on Riku's insecurities and the darkness forming in his heart.
Interestingly enough, both Maleficent and The Crones attempt to establish a sense of familiarity with Riku and Ciri. Maleficent uses terms like "dear child" and even refers to Riku as being "like a son" to her. During their encounter with Geralt, the Crones outright claim they cared for Ciri as if she were their own daughter.
As you've likely guessed, all four of these wicked witches have ulterior motives when it comes to our ashen/silver-haired heroes.
Their use of the affectionate "son" and "daughter" terminology is less meant to convey genuine concern over their well-being, but more so used as a guise of their true manipulative and predatory nature.
Both Maleficent and the Crones see Riku and Ciri as pawns to gaining ultimate power and control, and their "protection" of them is purely conditional and twisted.
Just Another INSANE Coincidence (to me)
Now this next comparison is going to be brief but absolutely mind-blowing. I literally could not believe this when I first realized it, it was just that crazy.
So, remember how I mentioned that Ciri is a princess? Her biological mother, Pavetta, was the princess of the kingdom of Cintra and her bio father, Emhyr var Emreis, is the emperor of Nilfgaard - an extremely powerful empire in the Continent.
As you can imagine, Emhyr is pretty set on having his reign continue and tasks Geralt with bringing Ciri back to him to be his successor (of course, if you're like me, you decide "fuck that" and let Ciri be happy).
This isn't shown in the game itself but at some point, Emhyr takes in and marries ew an orphaned girl and passes her off as Ciri. The girl looks similar to Ciri and even takes her name and titles, but she is ultimately still False Ciri.
So, we have a girl bearing a striking resemblance to Ciri, who is believed by everyone to be the real deal despite actually being a "fake."
Hmm. Very interesting.
Ciri has a lookalike.
Almost like... a replica?
I just --🤯
(This quote combined with the wack camera angle never gets old 😂)
The Child of Destiny
If you've made it to this point in the post, congrats!
Before I start headcanoning/theorizing, I want to talk a little bit more about Ciri, her powers, and what makes her generally special.
As I mentioned before, Ciri possesses a magical gift - Elder Blood or Hen Ichaer. This power is also known as the "Lara gene" as it originates with the Aen Elle, specifically their princess - Lara Dorren.
Lara Dorren was a powerful elven sorceress and sage who fell in love with a human mage known as Cregennan of Lod. Tragically, their love was star-crossed, and they both died, leaving their daughter, Riannon, orphaned. Adopted by the Queen and King of Cintra, Riannon then introduced the Elder Blood to the humans, where it eventually reached Ciri.
Therefore, the Elder Blood is very unique, and not many people possess the gene.
As such, Ciri is part of a prophecy, which states that the "Child of the Elder Blood" will save the world from being destroyed by the White Frost.
After Kingdom Hearts Dark Road came out, along with all the theories surrounding it, the prophecy and "Child of the Elder Blood" got me thinking.
Kingdom Hearts X and Kingdom Hearts Union X introduces the Book of Prophecies, which enables Player (because you can have your own character) to harness powers from the future.
With this in mind, it's clear to me now that the Player is paralleling Ithlinne here, who was the prophetess who first spoke of Ciri's prophecy.
The reason I say that is because the Player later takes the form of the "Blue-Cloaked Figure" in Kingdom Hearts Dark Road.
In this game, the Player/Blue-Cloaked Figure arrives on Destiny Islands, where they encounter a little Xehanort. The figure is overjoyed upon finding - who they believe is - the "Child of Destiny."
With this proclamation, the Player fortells of a prophecy in which the "Child of Destiny" (or a child reigning from Destiny Islands) would save the world from being overcome by darkness using the power of light.
The Player also reveals Xehanort as a supposed descendent of Ephemer, which introduces the concept of a special bloodline.
The reason I use the word "supposed" is because, unlike Ithlinne, I think the Player/Blue-Cloaked Figure was completely wrong about Xehanort here.
Obviously, Xehanort does not grow up to save the world from darkness. Rather, he is the villain using the Darkness for his own gain. Therefore, I've seen people say he was the "failed" Child of Destiny or that he somehow lost his destiny when he was tempted by the Darkness.
As for me, I seriously have my doubts that he was ever the Child of Destiny to begin with, and I question if he's even a descendent of Ephemer at all. I'm sure I'm not the only one.
Like many people, I - unsurprisingly - believe that Riku (and Sora) is the true Child of Destiny. I don't think I need to repeat what others have said, but this idea certainly makes all the Xehanort and Riku parallels that much more telling.
And honestly? I can't really say I blame the Player for making this mistake.
Xehanort does become a Keyblade Master, he posesses great potential in his heart, and he just so happened to be a kid on Destiny Islands (at the time). He also has white hair, which may not have much to do with the prophecy itself, but could link him to Ephemer, who coincidentally also had silver/white hair.
@violethowler has a great video series breaking down this and other theories, particularly as it pertains to Riku and Sora - here's season one! @andrewwtca also explores this in their essay (on Tumblr and AO3). Also reco reading the Necklace Theory as well, just for funsies.
Like others have said as well, I also don't think it's far-fetched to believe that Riku is actually the one descended from Ephemer. I mean, you certainly don't have to squint as hard to see the physical resemblance. (Not to mention Avallac'h's sketches of Lara, whom Geralt immediately assumed was Ciri.)
TL;DR
The Player/Blue-Cloaked Figure made an oopsie when it came to who the prophecy was about
Xehanort is not the true Child of Destiny and is likely not a descendant of Ephemer either
Riku is most likely the real Child of Destiny and descendant of Ephemer
Sora is also a Child of Destiny due to his strong connection to others, particularly Riku.
And while the exact phrasing of "Child of Destiny" may not always appear in regard to Ciri, the implication is definitely there as well.
Conclusion
Whew, we made it! This post is already super long, so I'll cut to the chase.
Ciri and Riku may not be carbon copies of each other - nor was that my expectation going into the games and creating this post - but they do share very distinct similarities that make for some really thought-provoking parallels between them.
I definitely went ham on the photos/gifs haha it got to the point where Tumblr was all, "okay, you need to stop," and wouldn't let me add more.
Also, sorry to make yet another Riku post but *shakes fist* he's just so damn interesting! I love all of these characters so much!
That all being said, I hope you enjoyed reading my ramblings.
I just want to say thank you so so so much to my beta @bestlifesofar for literally reading out loud and taking my abrupt interrupts so well. You’ve helped me make this fic the best version it could be,, i love u so much .. ps- my goal was to get this fic out while it’s still winter… the spring equinox is on the 21st so :) I met my goal. I hope you guys enjoy my first fic since last year !!
pairing: Jack Frost!Gojo Satoru x gn!reader
word count: 3.8k+
trope: magical wintery friends to lovers
cw: reader has a scar, hurt/comfort, gojo is 200 years older than you <3 (he literally IS Jack Frost), extreme tension, gojo saves you from death :) , vague backstory, slight angst ++ happy ending, lowkey kinda cheesy … my writing is a bit rusty
• • • <3
It’s the same reaction every time— why bother with an attempt at a real explanation? How do you stomach it every time? The same question over and over and over again?
It’s a miracle you’re still alive. No one was there to witness what happened and in all honesty, it would have been more bearable if the only gash was in a place your winter coat could hide.
Instead, a good slice across the cupid's bow scaling down the bottom of your lip to the outside of your chin was the accessory of your survival from the incident all those years ago; slightly faded but ever so visible, seeing as it had misshapen your lips– and he never lets you forget that.
Every year when the temperature drops and the sun seems like it's just out for a peak before going back to sleep, it's become second nature to be on your toes. He could be around any and every corner.
With winter being the way it was, you're questioning why you hadn’t worn a scarf out— granted the trip to the bakery just down the street wasn't a long one, but at the same time, it’s a scarf. A quick wrap around might’ve possibly saved you from the death grip of the cradling position you’d put your upper body into.
Once inside the quaint shop, the warmth hugged your body, but not your mind. The only thought after stepping in was how it was only going to feel colder once you leave the shop, especially since you’ll be carrying things; arms unguarded and at your side.
Maybe you should just tell your friends to meet you here instead of the apartment— a fleeting thought— as you go up to the memorized array of pastries behind the curved glass.
Savory and sweet, you decided. It was only a few friends but unfortunately, indecisiveness is a common denominator between the bunch.
˚✧₊⁎⁺˳✧༚
It took only three minutes before you were confronted with the fact that you had to go outside again. It took only five seconds before the frigid winter air rendered you defenseless.
Your sweater did absolutely nothing… and you were not above ridiculously speed-walking back;
Determination driven by desperation for warmth was what got the pace going.
But only about a quarter of the way in, there was an all too familiar whooshing sound– as if someone had skated by you that began to deter your motivation.
“Did you miss me?” you heard his smirk before you could see it, even before you could feel the chill of his presence.
A sigh escaped your body, out of a twisted type of relief or maybe it was a reaction to the man who was always colder than cold– after all this time— you're not sure which , before turning around and glancing upwards to meet his crooked smile pausing at his eyes. Those irises… the same ones that you could only describe as the frozen lake that he saved you from. Long and delicate snow white lashes bat from the bottom of his brow to kiss his bottom lashes.
“Satoru.”
His name was spoken like a hushed hope with wide eyes and an deceivingly innocent tilt of the head.
Before a vocal response could leave his perfectly blushed lips, that sinful smirk eased into a relaxed smile. His pale hand reached out to cup your jaw while the freezing swipe of his thumb lightly traced your scar, capturing your doe-like gaze with his for what felt like a little too long to be appropriate before nipping your nose between his thumb and pointer.
Such a childish act seemed to snap whatever transe the man had put you in, an unwarranted chill passed through you and the feeling of freeze burning your nose and cheeks became a bit too much to be playful.
“I'm not a teenager anymore, frost. Please don’t treat me like one.” you muttered, realizing you’d already wasted too much time on him and going around him, back on route.
Two can play that game.
“Oh, don't be like that.” he groaned, floating over to catch up before you heard the soles of his shoes hit the ground.
“I will not be speaking to you right now. We are in public.”
“You aren’t the only one who can see me right now, y’know.” he smirked, nodding his head across the street to the two bundled boys waiting by a parked car, ice skates in hand, and jaws on the floor.
“Gojo… show them something before they lose their minds.” you groaned, pace slightly slower than you’d like it to be. You didn't even need to turn your head to confirm he heard you. He was going to do it anyways— he loves kids. Always has.
The excited shrilled giggles that came from the boy’s direction tempted you, you cast a discreet glance.
A flurry of snow was wisping around the two who now had their tongues extended, catching the icy white flakes before they drifted down to the ground.
A smile threatened to break your cold facade; the joy of satoru’s magic always had that effect on anyone who was lucky enough to see it.
˚✧₊⁎⁺˳✧༚
He was surprisingly silent the rest of the way, even when the two of you got to the door of your place.
This was unusual– granted, the way things were left off last year were not ideal. His usual wit was nowhere to be seen.
Stepping into your place, you nearly moaned. The warmth encased you in such a way that you were tempted to toss the baked goods onto the counter, jump onto your couch, and bury yourself in the soft and coziness of your cushions. But you didn't.
You were being watched.
Instead, you set your pastries down and reached for dishes to display, still not daring to throw the man so much as a glance. He was still in the doorway, his usual chill hadn’t followed you to the kitchen yet.
Grabbing the kettle, filling it, and sparking up a flame on the stove, you get two mugs out.
30 minutes, your friends will be here in 30 minutes– that's enough time for tea.
“Your chai? Or did you want something different this time?”
The peak over your shoulder only confirmed that he hadn’t moved at all. He wasn't going to leave the shelter of the door frame, not without a little prompting.
“Green, actually. If you have any.”
A stillness filled the room and suddenly your heart took a violently steep drop.
Green was for serious things, things that required something strong and steady with a lighter tone to lift up any bad news that could have left you feeling heavy.
“And if I don't?” you falsy taunt, knowing you had a full canister waiting for moments like this.
The desire to hear his voice– even if it was for just a few more sentences– outweighed the dread of finally confronting this.
His next response came from right behind you, “Then the chai will work just fine.”
An out, he was giving you a choice to put it behind you, like it had never happened.
It's easy to feel the way he watches you reach for the recognizable tin and bring it back to the counter.
“Go to the couch, I'll only be two more minutes.” you say with a calm that could only be drawn out in times of pure panic.
It wasn't an exaggeration. You only took two minutes to get everything prepared before you carefully walked over to your couch and sat beside the man people have come to nickname “jack frost”.
“The only green tea I have is Jasmine… I hope that’s fine,” you murmured as you put the scalding mug on the coffee table in front of him.
He makes no move to pick it up, his eyes are still trained on you. Watching as you take a sip of the warm liquid, his gaze drifting to your throat as you swallow.
“Satoru…”
His eyes are now glued to where your pulsebeats.
Seeing as your first attempt to grab his attention failed, you try to casually rub the back of your neck in hopes to lure him out of his trance.
That seemed to do the trick, his crystal blues drift over your lips, before snapping back up to your eyes.
“Yes?” he smoothed over, as if the cautious energy he’d been exuding wasn't there– but it had already seeped into your bones, a weighted puddle of anxiety pooled at the bottom of your stomach.
The collected expression he was attempting to portray wasn't meeting his eyes.
“Stop acting like this and talk to me. I can’t— I won’t sit here and act like everything is okay, every time I close my eyes, I’m reliving the last few seconds before you disappeared on me. You may be okay with erasing what happened but I’m not. Gojo, either say something or leave. ”
You said it steadily, as if you ever had control of the situation. But as soon as you saw his eyes shift to a dark look of muddled despair, you felt your newfound backbone falter.
He readjusted his jaw, jutting it out to the side as his tongue goes to press against the inside of his molars before clamping his teeth together, brows furrowing with a heavy exhale, “do you know how difficult this is? To look at your face and not see that horrified look that you gave me when I let myself believe it was okay to kiss you last year?”
“Gojo wait—“
“You've brought me so much joy in this cursed life– and what did I do? Huh?”
he didn't even give you a chance to speak before spiraling further.
“I ruin it all by being selfish. That's what I was and that is all I will ever be. I didn't know how to properly handle my feelings for you so I take. I take and take and take. everything that you are– your kindness, your beauty, your loyalty, and your patience– and I assumed it was mine for the taking because I love you and I’ve protected you ever since the incident.”
Blank. Overwhelmed with feelings and racing thoughts, you’re rendered speechless. Gojo takes your slack jaw as a nonsensical cue to continue, “And the most sickening part? I wouldn't change the fact that I did it. I can’t look at your lips and not know what they feel like against mine anymore. How your scar feels against my tongue. Your pounding heart against my chest. The gasp you made… I still hear it. It's on a tempting loop whenever you're near.”
The pounding in your ears was no doubt the sped up rhythmic beat of your heart. Your eyes felt too big for their sockets, widening with the imagery he’s set.
Gojo was desperately seeking anything that would give him any sort of tell into what you were thinking… What were you thinking?
His irises were jotting back and forth and all you could focus on was how whiny he sounded. The desperation was like smoke clouding all judgment.
“what are you saying?” was the only thing that your brain and your mouth synced up with before the dam broke. “… that because you kissed me without context and I was rightfully at a loss for words— that gave you the right to disappear on me?… YOU disappeared on ME.”
Your voice never went above a shout, but you felt so lightheaded looking at the man next to you; you picked up your tea to take a sip.
“I thought I made a mistake,” he whispered.
It took you a moment to put down the mug and turning towards him, you were met with his pale profile.
“I was scared. I hadn't felt that uncertain since I first laid eyes on the moon after my death.”
The memory of him sitting you down on a plush cushion across from him on a frost-bitten day four winter’s ago resurfaces, the pang of heartbreak sat against your chest at the thought. He had made two cups of green tea and lightheartedly joked that you “might have to sit down for this one”– and he wasn't wrong.
“I thought I ruined the one connection that I have. That I trust. Yes I left; I saw something in your eyes that I had never seen before and it scared me. I didn't know what to do– and I didnt want to stick around to find out…” he paused for a moment to look at you before shaking his head and dropping his gaze back to your floor, ''I stayed out of your sight but you were always in mine.”
Anger flared up in your chest, but before you could open your mouth to spew your fire, he continued, “I hated that I had caused your disconnect to the world. You always looked like you were so happy just to be alive, but after what I had done, your eyes weren’t the same anymore. They became dull, like the warm flame behind your eyes had burnt down to it’s last ember. And I just kept thinking to myself, “I’m the reason your flame gave out.” I was having all these contradicting thoughts about how i had fucked up by acting upon my urges to make my feelings known and yet i couldn't stop thinking about how you felt against me. What could have happen… what i wanted to happen.”
Gojo took a breath and faced you– something, you acknowledged, he’d been too scared to do.
“What I'm feeling is insatiable. I want you… endlessly. I am so completely and utterly in love with you. I was scared to admit that because of how we first met. I witnessed you on your deathbed. I could see the life leave a young stranger's eyes. If I hadn't known how to treat your wound, it would have left completely.”
“And that’s why you stayed away?” You whimpered.
“I CAN'T DIE,” he all but screamed, his voice breaking at the mention of death, “but you can.”
Gojo ended in a whisper so quiet but his immortality ricocheted off the walls of your mind.
To say that you hadn’t thought about it would be a lie, but it was never at the forefront of your mind. There were times where you’d feel stuck when looking at him— like he was a painting you could stare at for hours, but it never occurred to you to think about how he saw you. Gojo Satoru saw you age and fluctuate while he is the one that is cemented— suspended in time.
It was a struggle to find the words; now that you were looking at him, looking at the way he was looking at you, the thump in your chest felt hollow, empty, but with an urgency to be filled. A deep craving that swept right out from under you to be close to him. So close you couldn’t let go.
“Sato—“
Anxiety swallowed your stomach whole as you heard the cheery knock wrap at the door.
Ah, right. Afternoon tea. The plans you had made weeks ago with your friends since everyone has been too busy to get together. The one you were preparing for this morning. Before Gojo.
In a panic, you look over to him, the urge to cry resting at the base of your throat at the thought of him leaving.
He was already looking at you with a smile that could only be described as weak.
Your Jack Frost gently patted his thighs as a departing symbol, punctuated by a tortured, “I’ll be around,” before his long legs carried him over to the window.
Nothing was said as he left your fire escape. With his departure, your words softly floated back down your throat and all the way to the pit of your stomach where your anxiety yearned for more. More things to think about, more outcomes to possibly happen. More time for the knocking on your door to get louder until you heard your phone chime.
Are you okay?
The tea time helped. Your friends always know how to help, whether they know the problem or not. In fact, one of your friends made an unassuming joke about how cold it was in your apartment.
“Man, did Jack Frost pay you a visit before we got here? It’s freezing! ”
Your laugh came out a bit watery, topped with a sniffle. The irony of the “joke” definitely made it a lot funnier than it was supposed to be.
Tea was poured, pastries were nibbled until only crumbs littered your plates; it was nice listening to your friends laugh and catch up on the details of the month that the group had been apart.
When the attention was brought to you, one of your friends interrupted with an apology and asked about the extra cup full of cold green tea that sat on the coffee table. you simply shrugged, remembering the joke from earlier, “I thought it might be rude to not offer Jack a cup.”
They all give lighthearted laughs but you know they’re going to text in the group chat later to make sure you’re okay— which is fine. Maybe a little bit of space will help with the back to back interactions.
After the group left with all the hugs and warmth they brought into your home, you were left with silence, an emptiness in the center of your chest. For a minute, your head matched the quietness you were left with. Not a thought passed through your mind. You didn’t know what to do with yourself.
There were dishes in the sink. Maybe you could do those? You did insist that your friends could just leave their mugs and plates in the sink.
The warmth of the water wetting your hands ran a chill down your spine. It really was cold in your place.
Dish after dish, you slowly began to feel the loneliness creep back in. Alone. Always alone.
By the time the task was done, you’d come to the conclusion that maybe a nap would be the best way to recover from the events of the afternoon— but first, the apartment could not continue to be this cold.
Cranking up the small space heater in your living room, you sighed before moving to close all of your opened windows. First, the two in the living room, then the one in the bathroom and finally, the one in your room.
You had your door closed in an attempt to shield your friends away from the tornado that swept through your room— from the sprawled out papery that littered your desk, to the intimates that were scattered on your floor, following your unmade bed— but when you opened it, everything was… sorted.
Your window was closed with the space heater on, already gearing to warm up the place.
Your bed was made neatly, your fluffy white comforter looked as soft as a cloud and so did your pillows.
Your desk didn’t have its usual mess of pencils lying around and the papers sat in a neat pile near the corner.
Your underwear that had been on the floor was nowhere to be seen.
“I uh-“
A scream ripped out of your throat faster than you could process.
There was Gojo, sitting in your reading chair, looking almost sheepish as he waited for your recognition to kick in.
“Satoru– what–”
“Okay wait–”
“No! Fuck, I thought you were gone! Like you weren't coming back–”
“I said that i'll be around!” he argued, standing up from the chair but not making any moves to get close.
“And my room? You just decided to come in, uninvited and clean?”
He looked confused, granted, so were you. Why were you yelling at him? Why were you close to crying? The state of your room had nothing to do with it.
“Darling…”
When his icy hands first touched your skin, you flinched— something he was not expecting and took the wrong way. His eyes widened, his hands recoiling while he glared at them… as if he was disgusted by himself. Your body moved before your brain could come up with a reason not to; you took his hands before they could meet his hips and cupped your cheek, nuzzling into the embrace. His thumb lightly brushed over your lips and you followed the urge to kiss it.
You maintained eye contact with him, trying to ingrain the subtle shock in his bright eyes; you wanted to remember every detail of this moment.
Your lips parted, mouth open and welcoming the gentle prodding of the pad of his thumb against the slick muscle of your tongue.
The initial surprise in his eyes turned darker, becoming more aware of what's happening and where it could lead.
With the heater going, the increasing heat of the room felt like a contradiction with Gojo in such close proximity; the warmth licking your back while your front was basking in his cold attention. With his thumb venturing inside your mouth, you closed your lips around the digit and looked up with wide pleading eyes.
His breath shuddered— it seemed like the both of you were in a trance.
You came to your senses when Gojo whispered in a tenderness you’ve never heard from him before, your lips loosened— barely waiting for him to move his hand before you pushed up on your toes until your lips pressed against his.
You've thought long and hard about how his lips had felt against your own. For the first few months, that's all you could feel, a lingering chill against your lips, but as time passed, no matter how hard you clung to that feeling, you'd forgotten.
In this moment, you swear to remember the cool silk-like lips against yours. The kiss was quick, though it still had your heart pounding like it was ready to burst from your chest. A little peck was all it was… until it wasn’t.
Gojo seemed to be a statue, frozen in place until you started to pull away, slowly redistributing your weight from the tips of your feet to the rest. Your balance wasn't sound come the following seconds; Satoru’s free arm slipped behind your waist pulling you closer to where your bodies seemingly molded into one. He cradled your face in the palm of his hand while his fingers kept you in place, leading a kiss that felt like it had been taken out of a movie scene. It was dramatic, passionate, and just a little bit clumsy– but there was a hidden emotion tangled in between your lips that didn't need to be verbally expressed, but explored as the kiss deepened.
The tip of his nose was cold as it met yours when he pulled back to pant into your mouth, to which your lips clumsily curved upward into a warbly smile.
“I’ve missed you. So much.”
