Ahh thanks for the tag Hazel! Sorry for getting to this sooo late!
Eggs: I don’t eat em often but when I do I definitely prefer a medium fried egg or scrambled. Used to love hard boiled eggs as a kid but gotta catch me in a rare mood for em now.
Steak: I’m a medium/ medium well kind of person, anything less feels like it’s still mooing, and I can’t with the texture
Milk: 2% all the way if I’m drinking it by itself, in anything else, gimme oat milk
Alcohol: I rarely drink, but when I do I prefer anything sweet and fruity. And at the holidays I gotta limit how much coquito I have because that shit can be lethal (it’s sweet and creamy and next thing ya know the rum has knocked you on your ass)
Warm drink: black tea, strong with 3 sugars and a splash of milk
No pressure tags: @flightlessangelwings @swiftpascal @chaoticgeminate and anyone else who wants to join in!
Tagged by @she-is-amused (didn’t know if I should reblog or create a new post)
Eggs: scrambled
Steak: medium
Milk: cheapest that won’t expire before I use it all (usually whole)
Alcohol: on tap cider or a nice lager
Warm drink: tea

this is a holiday writing request fill for @pixelsandkink, who asked for anything soft and/or sexy for raleigh & mc featuring the prompt “why does the house smell like a cinnamon roll threw up?”
aj, i adore you and am so glad we’re mutuals and friends !! you’re such a gift to the fandom and your writing is some of my favorite ever, so i hope you enjoy this and the holiday season this year as much as we all love u !! ❤️
*
even before the cold front rolled through and blanketed the five boroughs with so much snow they couldn’t see out their windows, they had planned for a low-key holiday.
he was just coming off tour and cadence had a lot going on in the new year, so instead of traveling, they’d planned to do christmas at home, in brooklyn, with just the two of them.
cadence’s grandma had complained over zoom and his own mother had given him quite the earful about it, too, but part of him was excited for an excuse to just lay low for once, in their apartment, and eat what they wanted at whatever time was convenient. for once, he’d be able to give cadence her presents with no one gawking at them, and wake up with her slowly on christmas morning, instead of already running late for something before he’d even had the chance to shower.
but just because they’d planned for something less chaotic than normal didn’t mean that cadence wasn’t still going into full on north-pole-elf mode, just like she did every year.
he shuddered as he stepped back inside their blessedly warm apartment, shaking snow from his collar. “babe?” raleigh called out, over the distinctive sound of something clanking in the kitchen, “i couldn’t find pure vanilla extract so i just got imitation, i hope that’s oka...”
his voice trailed off into nothing as he stopped in the archway between their kitchen and living room. cadence was standing in front of the oven, the kitchen suspiciously clean around her save for an ominous pile of dirty dishes in the sink that, for some reason, included two different blenders. she smiled innocently at him as he looked around.
“why does it smell like a cinnamon roll threw up in here?” he asked, holding the bag from the store out to her.
her expression fell down into a frown as she plucked it from his hands. “i made gingerbread cookies. they’re not supposed to smell like cinnamon.”
“oh.” he ran a hand through his hair, which was damp with snow from outside. “that’s what i meant. it smells good.”
“yeah, right,” she sighed, and then, as he went for the fridge to get himself a drink, “wait, don’t --”
raleigh paused, frowning at the pitcher on the top shelf. it stood out among the takeout containers and condiment bottles filling their otherwise bare fridge. “what’s this?”
she mumbled something from behind him that sounded almost like -- “did you say coquito?” that was the last thing he’d ever expect to come out of her mouth.
over his shoulder, he saw cadence nod. he leaned back into the fridge and pulled out the pitcher. “you made this?”
“yeah, but -- just based on what it said on wikipedia,” cadence rushed to explain, the words tripping out in a ramble, “so it’s probably not right. or good.”
it looked right. from a glance alone, whatever she’d made was indistinguishable to the most authentic coquito he’d ever had, though it’d been a long time since he had a drink so thoughtfully prepared by anyone -- let alone someone as clearly careful as her.
“can i try it?” raleigh asked, stepping closer to the counter.
“it’s eleven-thirty,” cadence said, even as she moved to get down two glasses from the cabinet. he scoffed; like that had ever stopped them before. “get some ice.”
he leaned against the counter as her dainty hands measured out ice cubes for each of them, slowly pouring coquito into both glasses before passing him one. cadence held onto her own without drinking from it while raleigh lifted his to his lips and took a sip, hyperaware of the way cadence was watching him anxiously as he did so.
“wow, babe,” he said, once he’d swallowed, “it’s really good. i can’t believe you made this.”
cadence’s whole face lit up at once, her expression brightening. “really?” she asked, before drinking from her own glass and swallowing with a cough. “it’s really strong.”
“it’s perfect,” raleigh insisted, though they were both likely to be drunk by lunch if they had any more. “because you made it for me. you’re the best.”
he opened the arm that wasn’t cradling his glass and pulled her into his chest to drop a kiss onto her forehead, but cadence looked up at just the right moment, and once he saw the sweet expression on her face he couldn’t not press their lips together. outside of his control, some instinct inside him took over and tilted her head back to kiss her as thoroughly as possible, teeth grazing her bottom lip as his tongue demanded her attention.
cadence was wide-eyed when he finally let her up for air. “raleigh,” she breathed, “jesus. warn a girl, next time.”
“incoming,” he announced unceremoniously, before nudging her back against the counter and kissing her again, fumbling to set his glass down and then yanking hers from her hands, too, freeing the both of them to wind their arms around one another so he could kiss her passionately.
her lips tasted sweet, coconut and rum dancing on his tongue when he sucked on her skin. she was warm under his hands, which still felt cold from the chill outside and the six blocks he’d walked to get to whole foods to look for that stupid vanilla extract for her.
the coquito had still been perfect without it.
raleigh’s hands wrapped around her thighs to lift her onto the counter and he smirked against her lips as cadence gasped into his mouth as soon as he set her down effortlessly, pushing in between her spread legs.
despite her surprise, she leaned over immediately to accommodate the few extra inches of height she now had, pulling on his hair to crane his neck back for the best angle to kiss him.
raleigh took advantage of the movement to slide his hands up her legs to the waistband of her leggings, wriggling them down to her knees. cadence jerked back in surprise as soon as he pulled away from their kiss, like she hadn’t expected him to get her undressed so swiftly.
he smirked at her. cute.
in retaliation, she tugged on his hair, though it hardly had the effect she was probably intending; he tilted into her hands with a sound that was half acknowledgment, half encouragement, grin spreading when she pulled again, harder.
“you’re unbelievable,” cadence laughed from above him, followed by his favorite sound in the world: an impatient, exasperated groan of his name, from between her perfect lips. “raleigh.”
“i’m going,” he promised, though his lips landed somewhere near her knee and took their time sliding up the inside of her thigh while his right hand crept higher and higher on cadence’s opposite leg, until he could finally hook his index finger around her thong and tug it to the side.
“you’d better be.” it would probably never stop being cute, how she tried to threaten him with that shaky, wanting voice, and he grinned against the soft skin of her inner thigh as his kisses moved slowly upwards, his fingertips finally pushing between her legs just so he could hear her voice change, cadence’s words breaking into a loud, beautiful moan.
her old apartment was smack-dab in the middle of the building, surrounded by neighbors on every side. the day he finally got to move her into his penthouse she damn near lost her voice from screaming, and fiona had been pissed at him, but it had been so worth it. now, more than a year later, the sight of her things mixed in with his still made him so happy his chest got uncomfortably tight, so that he often found himself staring at their toothbrushes like a weirdo in the mornings when he was meant to be getting ready, taking up too much time in the bathroom.
“raleigh,” cadence sighed again, shifting around on the counter. “please.”
well -- it was christmas eve. he could probably afford to be generous, just once.
holding her thighs open with his free hand, he lowered his head and licked slowly across her center, right through where she was already so wet for him. cadence sighed as his tongue pointed, spreading her legs wider to sling one over his shoulder.
part of him wanted to draw it out -- wind her up as much as possible and keep her on edge for as long as he dared.
but the other part of him was stuck fixedly on the image of cadence making coquito for him, twice, in both blenders, biting nervously on her bottom lip as she scanned the wikipedia entry for it.
abandoning all thoughts of teasing, raleigh wrapped his lips around her clit and sucked, desperate to bring her to an edge. the sounds she was making above him only encouraged raleigh to redouble his efforts, every last ounce of his attention hyper-focused on making her feel as good as possible -- something they couldn’t do in the middle of the kitchen on christmas eve any other year but this one. something that was supposed to be special for her today, as a thank-you for always being so thoughtful, for never failing to keep him top-of-mind in the most unselfish way she knew, something no one else before her had ever managed to achieve.
her moan pitched high when his fingers twisted just right between her legs, covering the borderline obscene sound of her hips rocking down onto his face. there were few things he loved more than seeing cadence like this, bare and wild, all parts of the manicured, calculated facade she wore for her fans and the media stripped away under his touch. that was what he’d fallen in love with -- all the ways she was raw and real and shocked the hell out of him with how much she’d been able to make him feel, for the first time in years.
when she shook apart above him, he held her steady, fingertips digging into her thighs to keep her still as she melted onto the countertop with another loud groan of his name, a sound that never failed to rush straight to his dick and make his head swim at the same time. he stared at her as she worked her way through it, trembling hard enough to rattle the dishes in the sink before finally letting one last heavy exhale escape.
then he finally pulled his head back, licked his lips and smiled at her. cadence groaned again, screwing her eyes shut tight. she pushed his face away without any real force. “ugh.”
“totally,” he agreed, planting his palms on the counter and pushing up to try to lean over her, frowning at the disadvantage he was at with her seated above him. raleigh only had a moment to pout before she pushed her hair out of her face and fell forward against his chest with a soft pleading sound, curling up into his open and waiting arms.
they stood there silently for a minute with him rubbing her back and her nuzzling his shirt collar, breathing slowly in and out. finally, she said, “i’m so glad we’re here together. alone.”
“me too, baby,” raleigh returned, fingertips dragging gently up and down her spine through her t-shirt. “thanks for making me coquito. that was really thoughtful.”
“it was nothing,” she murmured into his collarbone, lips mouthing the shape of each word and making him shiver, “i’m just glad you liked it.”
“it was perfect,” he argued, trying to stop his thoughts from drifting too far. unfortunately, the best thing to ever happen to him was wrapped half around his waist with her pants off, and he could still taste her pussy when he licked his lips, so -- the effort was pretty much futile. still, it’d be impossible to ignore what an ideal christmas it was shaping up to be, if the last hour or so was anything to go by. and he couldn’t wait to see how she’d react to what he had planned for the rest of their holiday break, all the way through new year’s day.
pulling back to smack a kiss that was meant to be obnoxious but mostly just read as loving onto her forehead, he earnestly amended, “you’re perfect,” gratified by the laughter his girlfriend gave before he’d even finished saying the words.

Hi I was wondering if you can do midoriya and bakugou with a puerto rican s/o like meeting their big ass family (like mine) and tasting the food. If you only do one thats fine. Im also puerto rican and I hate that most people only do mexican s/o. Thank you!!!
you have no idea how happy i am to have gotten this request !!! we need more love for puerto ricans and latinx in the fandom! this is outrageously long because i got really into it haha but i hope you like it <3
Tumblr media
katsuki bakugou
when you tell katsuki he's invited to your birthday dinner he’s actually quite nervous
he’s well aware he’ll have to meet your family
and he’s very aware that he’s not the most friendly person
but he tries to push his nerves down because he is genuinely interested to meet your family
he’s heard you talking on the phone in spanish countless of times
honestly, he can’t decide if it's cool or hot but honestly both
before your party you warn him of how loud and eccentric your family is, not to mention big
he’s sure he can handle it
but oh boy he had no idea what he was in for
the moment he enters your home he’s bombarded by loud music and the sound of laughter and little kids screaming
you’re barely in the door when you’re trampled by hugs and kisses of your family
he has absolutely no idea what they’re saying to you and it's all so fast??
you introduce katsuki and they all greet him by wrapping him up in a tight hug and kissing his cheeks
and he nearly EXPLODES
but he doesn't, cause its your birthday and he doesn’t want to ruin it
he swears your family’s quirk could be voice with how loud they are
while you catch up with your family, your little cousins seem very interested in dear bakugou
they ask him nonstop questions, some of which are in spanish and he's so frustrated and clueless
“tu eres mi tio ahora?”
“hUh??”
they just crawl all over him and tug his hair and clothes while chittering in spanish
your mom eventually shoos the kids off of katsuki, but then asks him to dance
and he is mortified
your mom grabs his hands and pulls him off the couch
with the help of your tias and tios they also encourage him to dance
the music is so different from what he’s used to
he gives you a helpless look that you can't help but laugh at
he thinks you’re coming to his rescue
but oh no
this is your family and your birthday
you're going to dance and drag katsuki along if you had to
you take his hands and show him the simple two steps of merengue
he’s not the best dancer, but he really does try
once he gets the hang of it, you start to move faster
he’s so in awe at how good you are??
he just becomes totally aware of how special you are and how special it is that you brought him to meet you family
Tumblr media
izuku midoriya
you'd been missing home a lot recently
especially the food
so you text your mom for all of your favorite classic boricua recipes
izuku sees your excitement and takes notice
“what’s got you so happy?”
“my mom sent me the recipes of my favorite foods because i’ve been missing home lately...oh my god izuku you have to try everything once i make it!”
“o-ok!”
sweet izuku has no idea about puerto rican food
his biggest fear is that it’ll be incredibly spicey and his tongue will fall off
the day he comes home and sees your dinner table full of food that he doesn’t recognize he realizes that it is time to face his fear
you give him a plate filled to the brim with mofongo, rice, beans, tostones, pernil, and alcapurrias
he is stunned
there is so much food
you poor him a glass of coquito
you explain everything you’ve made as he eyes it nervously
its not that he’s a picky eater, he just doesn’t want to offend you
you watch him eagerly as he takes his first bites
the rice and beans don’t frighten him, and he quite likes them
he’s so surprised by the mofongo, its such a new flavor
but his favorite had to be the pernil
the savory pork made his tastebuds so happy
you can’t help but laugh at all of his reactions
“y-n this is amazing! how did the meat get so soft? and you say these are like savory bananas? and this is what you used to eat back home?”
when he sips the coquito he’s blown away
the thick and creamy coconut drink is nothing like he’s ever had before
“what’s in this y-n!?”
“condensed milk, egg yolks, coconut milk, vanilla, cinnamon, rum-”
“RUM?? like, ALCOHOL???”
he’s very shook about the drinking culture and how chill it is for you to drink at meals with your family
but when you pull out the flan, it is all over
he is in HEAVEN
you did it to perfection and he feels so blessed that you not only shared your wonderful cooking with him
but that you shared something to personal to you that is tied so closely to home and your family
you two are so full from eating that you pass out on the couch together

Coquito
Hi @cherryfires I was your Secret Santa for the @boyfriendssecretsanta hope you enjoy!
Also on Ao3 https://archiveofourown.org/works/17116274
It was the first serious snowfall of the year, leaving Jeremy and Michael stranded in Michael’s house.
“I can’t believe it’s actually snowing this much!” Jeremy said, looking out the window. “Man, it’s a good thing it’s Friday and I was slated to stay over anyway, otherwise I’d have to leave right now.”
Michael looked at his best friend and smiled. “Yeah, and I’m doubly glad you’re here since I just got word from Mama that she and Nanay are stuck in New York due to the storm.”
There were other reasons that Michael was glad that Jeremy was there, too. Like the fact that he and Jeremy didn’t get as much one on one time now that they actually had other friends. Or the fact that Michael was definitely in love with Jeremy, so spending time with him was always something he looked forward to.
What Michael didn’t know was that Jeremy was thinking the exact same thing to himself at the moment.
Jeremy watched as Michael rooted around his kitchen, taking out various cans and a blender. “What are we making again?”
“It’s called coquito,” Michael said, head still in the cabinet as he looked for his last few ingredients. “Mama has a Puerto Rican friend who brought it for the Christmas party at her work and it’s so fucking good.”
“Yeah, but what is it?” Jeremy asked, looking at the cans of coconut milk, sweetened condensed milk, and evaporated milk. “Because this just seems like a concoction of weird milks.”
Michael, finally finding the cinnamon he was looking for, looked back at Jeremy in shock. “You say that like you don’t love milk.”
“I just don’t see how this could possibly taste good is all.”
“Well, prepare to have your mind blown, Jere,” Michael said, throwing the ingredients into the blender. “You like eggnog, right?” Jeremy nodded. “This is basically just Puerto Rican eggnog, except it’s better than eggnog because eggnog is gross.”
Jeremy shook his head exasperatedly at his friend, but decided to trust him. Michael had never steered Jeremy wrong, so he was worthy of the trust.
Michael stopped the blender and poured the drink into two large bottles on the counter. “Why are you putting it in bottles?”
“Gotta add the rum,” Michael said, pulling out a bottle of Captain Morgan’s. Jeremy visibly paled. “Relax. Nanay already told me I could make it with rum as long as I saved her some. We’re not gonna get in trouble like we did with the weed brownies.” Jeremy and Michael weren’t allowed to see each other for weeks after the weed brownies. “Now, go grab me a shot glass.”
Jeremy complied, watching as Michael poured about nine shots in each bottle before closing them and shaking them up. When finished, Michael held out a bottle to Jeremy before grabbing some cups from the cabinet. “Come on, we can take them downstairs and watch a movie on or something.”
The two browsed through Michael’s DVD collection (“I’m old school in many ways, Jere. Of course I still watch things on DVD.”), finally settling on the Lego Batman movie.
“I really don’t mind the Christmas movies, Micha,” Jeremy said as he sat down on the edge of Michael’s bed.
“Jere, you’re Jewish and I respect that so no Christmas movies.”
“I’m barely Jewish at all. You know that was all my mom,” Jeremy grumbled. He didn’t like thinking about that.
Michael sat down next to Jeremy and threw an arm around him, pulling him close. “It’s okay, dude. She didn’t deserve to be in your life anyway.”
Jeremy had to stop himself from sinking directly into Michael. Instead, he allowed Michael to withdraw his arm and play the movie. Watching movies with Michael often followed a similar pattern: It would be quiet for about two seconds before both of them were quoting the movie or making snarky comments and laughing their asses of.
The commentary was enhanced by the coquito. Jeremy was the definition of a lightweight, so the shots in the sugary drink were really starting to hit him. Not enough to make him drunk, but enough to make his lips a little looser than usual.
By the end of the movie, Jeremy was practically laying on Michael. He was tired and Michael was warm so Jeremy couldn’t help but cuddle closer. As Michael tried to stand up, Jeremy started to whine. “Michael, no, don’t leave.”
“I’m just gonna put in a new movie, Jere,” Michael said, looking down at his friend fondly. Jeremy always got cuddly when he started drinking.
“We don’t need another movie, just lay here with me for a little while,” Jeremy said, still holding onto Michael’s arm. “Come oooonnnnn.”
“Alright, alright,” Michael said, laying down next to Jeremy. Jeremy immediately burrowed himself back into Michael’s side. “It wasn’t even that much rum, Jere.”
“I know, I know. I’ve just been tired lately and you’re comfortable,” Jeremy said, but his words were muffled by Michael’s side. “School kicked my ass this semester. Add that to the fact that holidays are tough since Mom left and Dad still gets a little weird around this time. Stresses me out.”
Michael instinctively pulls Jeremy closer. “I’m sorry, Jeremy.”
Jeremy props himself up a little bit to look at Michael. “Hey, no, dude, it’s not like it’s your fault. I’m just a little buzzed, a little tired, and a little sad. But you’re making everything better. You have been ever since she left. Jeremy plopped himself back down by Michael’s side. “You’re the only one who’s stayed consistently. I don’t deserve that.”
“You deserve the world, Jere,” Michael said softly, locking eyes with Jeremy. “I would give it to you if I could.”
The two stared at each other for a moment. Slowly, as if something was pulling them, the two found themselves in a gentle kiss. Both boys tasted like coconut and spiced rum, a reminder of the drink they had been sharing. When they finally pulled away, chaos ensued.
“Oh my god!”
“Michael, I’m so sorry-”
“Jere, I didn’t mean-”
“I know you don’t feel the same-”
“I would never force myself on you-”
Suddenly both their brains clicked back online and they realized what the other was saying. Michael spoke up first. “Hang on. Jere… Did you mean to do that?”
Jeremy nodded slowly. “Did… Was it okay?”
Michael reached out and grabbed Jeremy’s hands. “Jere. That was more than okay. I didn’t think…”
“After everything that happened, Michael, how could I not be in love with you?” Jeremy asked, voice soft and sweet. He squeezed Michael’s hand gently before bringing it up to his mouth and kissing the back of it. “You’re my player one. Quite literally the better half of me.”
Michael laughed. “And don’t you forget that!” The two boys laughed for a few moments before quieting down again. “But in all seriousness, Jeremy, I can’t believe this is happening. Christ, I… This is all that I’ve wanted for longer than you could possibly know.”
“Did you just quote Dear Evan Hansen at me?” Jeremy asked with a laugh.
“You and Christine sing it so often that it’s hard not to enjoy,” Michael said sheepishly. “Anyway. I love you. I love you so much, Jere.”
“I love you too, Michael. More than you could ever know.”
Smiling at each other, the two boys laid back down. Jeremy returned to his position curled up by Michael’s side, reveling in the warmth and comfort. Jeremy was still a little buzzed and a little sad, but that was okay. He had Michael by his side, and it seemed that he always would.

Get the Flavors Of Large Format Libations, Even For Parties Of One
New Post has been published on https://perfectirishgifts.com/get-the-flavors-of-large-format-libations-even-for-parties-of-one/
Get the Flavors Of Large Format Libations, Even For Parties Of One
Fruit punch with ice served in beautiful big glass bowl
A party just isn’t a party without gathering at punch bowls and buffet tables, but, unfortunately, this is the year we can’t have parties.
However, to paraphrase the late Michael Hutchence of INXS, if you “miss the people, and miss the fun,” at least this is the year ready-to-drink innovations and other cool products have made it possible to experience that buzzing party vibe in smaller servings.
So freeze those ice cubes, don you now that ugly sweater, break out the cat’s earmuffs and/or the dog antlers and pour yourself a cup of holiday cheer!
All of the following items are available at select retailers in store or online. But to spread even more cheer to businesses that could really use the support, please consider using these products as inspiration to order similar format cocktails to-go from local bars and restaurants, many of which are offering holiday menu selections. (Bonus if you live near a Miracle pop-up bar!)
Punch
No reason you can’t pour these RTD punches into a bowl (even a plastic container) with ice, and add citrus wheel garnishes and/or cranberries to capture that festive vibe.
Drnxsmith Rum Punch
The motto of Drnxmyth is “the best bar in town delivered to your door”, and each canned cocktail is developed by real mixologists, not a boardroom. The Rum Punch, created by Los Angeles bartender Bad Birdy, is made with real fresh juices and was fashioned to be refreshing, but not too sweet. 16% ABV, $11
Rockey’s Milk Punch: For those who don’t know, milk punch is not actually milky, though it’s made with clarified milk—which adds a special tartness to drinks. The centuries’ old technique involves a chemical reaction with tea, and is rather tedious to do at home, especially just for a serving or two. Thank heavens NYC bartender Eamen Rockey came up with a delicious, bottled version of milk punch! Sip it on the rocks, or add a splash of spirit (rum, whiskey, tequila, gin, etc.) or even bubbly. 12% ABV, $26
BeatBox Peach is the newest flavor from this line of tetra-pak, single serve RTDs and is meant to evoke the flavor of peach ring candies, though the flavors are only a touch sweet, and they are still fairly low in calories, considering (130). $4 per pack
Eggnog Christmas milk cocktail with cinnamon, served in two glasses on vintage tray with shortbread … [] star shape sugar cookies, decor toys, fir branch over white wooden plank table. (Photo by: Natasha Breen/REDA&CO/Universal Images Group via Getty Images)
Eggnog
It could be argued that no single party cocktail says “December” quite like an eggnog. The problem is, that’s a lot of preparation for a single party. Luckily there are some festive and delicious bottlings that only require a chill, and perhaps a sprinkle of nutmeg. Bonus: lipstick is also canceled in 2020, so nothing to re-apply when the spice rubs off your lipcolor.
Priced at only $9 for a 750 ml bottle (though it tastes wayyyy more expensive), Evan Williams Southern Eggnog the #1 seller in the all-in-one nog category. The real dairy cream recipe combines Evan Williams bourbon as well as well as rum and brandy. 15% ABV
Bacardí Coquito
Coquito, which translates to “little coconut”, is a traditional Christmas eggnog variation that is a staple of home kitchens in Puerto Rican households. Bacardí’s bottled version—with rum, coconut cream, vanilla, toasted spices and cinnamon—sold out quickly last year, but they’ve brought it back for a limited time in 2020. 13% ABV, $20
Drinks Inspired By the Dessert Table
RumChata Peppermint Bark
As if a rummed up, shelf stable version of the popular Mexican comfort rice milk drink, horchata, wasn’t clever enough, this year the makers of RumChata have launched a Peppermint Bark flavor. Who needs to be judged grazing at a party cookie tray when you can pour yourself a chocolate-mint dessert (in the elastic pants-friendly privacy of your own home) that needs zero preparation—not even ice! 14% ABV, $22
Dr. Bill Lumsden and Glenmorangie A Tale of Cake
Glenmorangie A Tale of Cake is the latest limited edition of this Highland Scotch from the mind of Director of Whisky Creation Dr. Bill Lumsden, who says his most joyful childhood memories involved cake. This fruity, comforting whisky is 46% ABV, $100.
Aberfeldy 12 Year Scotch Hot Chocolate kit
Sparkly, Scotchy Hot Chocolate
Personal pampering is taken to the next level with this luxurious, velvety rich Aberfeldy Golden Hot Chocolate kit created in partnership with Exquisito Chocolates in Miami. A $45 all-in-one set includes an entire 750 ml bottle (I know!) of Aberfeldy 12 Year Single Malt Scotch (this is a non-peated, Highlands malt), a 6.8 oz bag of Limited Edition Aberfeldy Golden Hot Chocolate Mix, 6 Aberfeldy-infused marshmallows, and to make it extra festive, 4 g of edible gold glitter, along with 2 branded mugs. So fire up the virtual yule log (or queue the holiday rom com—no one is judging), and order one at Reserve Bar (note: if it is sold out, I am told they plan to restock by Friday the 11th) to cozy up to.
Death Valley Nails Death & Co. polish collection
Look (and Mix) Your Best at Home
Speaking of pampering, since you’re home relaxing, why not give yourself a mani/pedi to feel more gussied up for your personal holiday cocktail party? Death & Co. cocktail bar has teamed up with Death Valley Nails to develop limited edition polishes inspired by bartenders on the national team—Devon Tarby (Co-Owner, Los Angeles), Shannon Tebay (Head Bartender, NYC), and Alex Jump (Head Bartender, Denver). A percentage of sales for each shade of the vegan, cruelty-free, non-toxic line goes toward Mojave Desert Land Trust, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation and Soul Fire Farm. They are available from Death & Co Market and Death Valley Nails for $12 each, or $35 for the trio.
Finally, if you want to give the gift of home cocktail classes, or take some yourself, Santa Teresa 1796 Rum has the 1796 Virtual Holiday Speakeasy, where some of the country’s most talented bartenders from NYC, Los Angeles and Miami can personally guide your way! Details here—just pick a cocktail and book!

Maybe you were given a fancy, shiny new blender over the holidays; maybe you've made a New Year's resolution to eat more fruits and vegetables; or maybe you just have a healthy appreciation for quick, tasty breakfasts. Whatever the case, we're big fans of smoothies here at Serious Eats, and we support your decision to consume more.
One of the best things about smoothies is how ripe they are for variation. You can make them with just about anything—our recipes call for fruits like bananas, mangoes, and blueberries, along with vegetables like spinach, chard, and even cilantro. To get the right consistency, you can also use all manner of thickeners, including yogurt, avocado, nuts, and plain old ice. The opportunities are truly endless, so we've rounded up 14 of our favorite recipes to start you off.

If you feel a bit intimidated (or grossed out) by the thought of a vegetable-packed drink, this smoothie, which pairs greens with sweet banana, pineapple, and mango, will ease you into the idea. Spinach will make the mildest smoothie, while sorrel is a little tangier, but don't worry—neither has the strongly bitter or earthy flavors found in some raw greens.

If you aren't able to escape to a beach this winter, here's a balanced green smoothie to transport you there in spirit, at least. We make it with coconut water or pineapple juice, a banana and a peach, a few handfuls of spinach, cilantro, and a lime. Remove the peel and pith from the lime, and throw it in the blender whole.

Kale is a popular ingredient in green smoothies, but it can be on the bitter side, which is why we swap it out for milder chard here. This smooth, slightly tart, and lightly spicy concoction pairs chard with creamy avocado, tangy pineapple, and just a little bit of jalapeño. The result is filling, not too sweet, and perfect for a satisfying breakfast.

Rich and creamy avocados are one of our favorite ingredients for making vegan smoothies thick. In this recipe, sweet mango counterbalances the light savoriness of the avocado, while pineapple contributes acidity. We use just enough coconut water to help it blend, reinforcing the tropical flavor profile.

Equally appropriate for either breakfast or dessert, this smoothie pairs grassy matcha powder with banana and soy milk. By using unsweetened soy milk, you can adjust the sweetness level exactly to your liking with agave syrup. Freezing the banana before blending helps the smoothie get thick and stay ice-cold.

For our take on a Creamsicle in smoothie form, we turn to not oranges but kumquats, which we purée whole for a tart, complex flavor. Mango supplies sweetness, though, depending on how sour your kumquats are, you might need to add a little agave nectar, too. Cashews soaked overnight in water are the key to thickening this vegan drink.

Though fresh stone fruits won't be in season for months, using dried fruit allows you to enjoy this lightly peach-colored apricot smoothie year-round. Made by blending apricots with yogurt and orange juice, this drink gets most of its inspiration from mango lassi. But the bit of orange flower water mixed in is a nod to the Middle Eastern apricot drink qamar al-din—the water is powerful stuff, so 1/2 teaspoon should be plenty.

This mellow smoothie pairs the subtly sweet flavor of cantaloupe with bright lime juice, aromatic mint leaves, and plain yogurt. Cantaloupe can be hit or miss in the winter—if the fruit you've found isn't sweet enough, go ahead and add a little more honey.

Kefir, a tangy, slightly effervescent drinkable yogurt, works great as a more nuanced replacement for plain yogurt in smoothies. But even better than pouring it straight from the bottle is freezing the kefir into ice cubes. The kefir cubes add body to this vibrant raspberry-mint smoothie, turning it cold and creamy without watering it down. Use full-fat kefir rather than reduced fat for the most flavorful smoothie with the best texture.

Reminiscent of peaches and cream, this smoothie is made with tangy kefir ice cubes, ripe fresh peaches, and fragrant basil. There's no need to peel the peaches before adding them, since your blender will make short work of the skin. Basil might seem like an unusual choice, but its distinct aroma lends valuable complexity to the drink.

This lovely kefir smoothie relies on sweet-sour blueberries and spicy fresh ginger for its flavor. Even if you have a high-powered blender, it's wise to grate the ginger before adding it, which will eliminate the risk of getting big, unpleasantly sharp-tasting chunks of the stuff in your drink.

If you love smoothies but can't face the morning without your caffeine fix, here's a recipe that combines everything you need in one tidy breakfast package. This tasty drink blends a frozen banana with chilled brewed coffee and hazelnuts soaked overnight in water; the nuts add flavor, thicken the smoothie, and supply extra fat and protein to fill you up.

We don't tend to think of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches as first-thing-in-the-morning fare, but I'll sometimes throw one together when I need to get out the door fast, and I'd bet I'm not the only one. To make it more recognizably breakfast-y, try turning the same flavors into a smoothie, blending up creamy peanut butter, raspberry jam, and frozen raspberries with cooked oatmeal and milk.

This recipe adapts the Puerto Rican holiday punch coquito—usually a combination of rum, sweetened condensed milk, coconut milk, vanilla, and spices—turning it into a vegan, nonalcoholic, but still totally delicious, concoction that's perfectly appropriate for starting your day. We start with coconut milk and frozen bananas, and then add a pinch of nutmeg, a traditional ingredient in coquito. Maple syrup gives the smoothie a caramel-like flavor that stands in nicely for rum.
