Pepper (Giant!Baby Saja x Reader)

Summary: One evening, you decide to check on your friend from Discord on your way home. You then realize the consequences of your actions when your friend reveals himself as a demon eager to collect a Special Soul: You.

My first time doing a Reader fic at all, please bare with me. This is self-indulgence at its finest. I had fun with this after a friend from Discord enlightened me on why Baby Saja was popular and apparently, he was so stuck in my mind that I had to write this. Basically, Baby has a Discord and uses it to get a powerful soul/pet/toy/snack while committing atrocities.
I did not know how to rate this, but I put Teen because I felt besides the whole hypnotism and breaking the city, nothing explicit happens. If you need me to change anything please let me know.

You liked your roleplaying partner on Discord. For weeks, the two of you have been chatting with similar interests: K-pop, spicy food, rap, and cozy long-sleeved outfits. From what you knew of BBSinsGM5, he claimed that he looked younger than he was. He and his brothers formed a band inspired by Ateez and Stray Kids. He lived somewhere far. When roleplaying, most of his characters were demons. You did not question it because you liked demons too, and if anything, thought that he had special interests like you do. You did not even ask why in one session, where he, as a demon, convinced you to make a deal with the demon king to serve under one of his faithful servants. You just assumed that he had a large imagination like you did. Regardless, you felt that after spending some time chatting, maybe you could be more than just online friends?
One evening, you had just come out from a long day of errands when you grabbed your phone, sat inside the city bus, and opened Discord to chat. Already, BBSinsGM5 sent you texts.
Yo, Pepper!
You smiled and blushed. Pepper was the nickname he gave you, a sweet and spicy person. You laughed and typed,
Hey, there~ How's your day?
Boring. Practice was way too long! You're the highlight of my day, Pepper~
You too. So tired from doing things like groceries and being an adult(tm). Can't wait to crash out at home. What about you?
I'm on a side quest for a special soul. The guys and I are exploring, and I just needed some time for myself, you know?
I hear you. Special soul? You mean those strong souls that you made up for our threads?
... yeah! Exactly.
Pretty cool stuff. Speaking of which, what kind of demon are you again? It's like this cool twist, and it's brand new to me.
I'm a reaper demon. Where I'm from, they are called Jeoseung Saja.
Saja, as in..?
You want a selfie?
You pulled your eyes away from the screen, gasping. You had never seen him before. His icon was a lion with a mane of fire. Curiosity got the better of you, and you texted yes. It took a moment or two before your friend sent his selfie, and you gaped with your eyes twitching.
In the picture, a man with a young face stood in the center of buildings that looked like toys. Teal hair. Golden eyes. Fuchsia skin with violet patterns that flower endlessly. A charming smile with sharp fangs in some places. He wore a black traditional-style outfit with boots and a hat to match. He leaned back in a pose as his free hand stood at the side of his face with his thumb up, mimicking drinking something. You watched too many TikToks not to recognize your friend.
In your mind, his smile sparkled, and an awestruck harmony played in your ear.
You dialed him immediately, and to your shock, a familiar deep voice answered. "'ellow?"
"Baby Saja of the Saja Boys?!"
"The one and only, babe~" Baby mused confidently. You stopped yourself from fainting in your seat. You were friends with one of the Saja Boys, a new K-pop band that spread all over the internet? It felt too good to be true.
"Wow, I can't believe it! I could with the popularity thing. Nice cosplay, by the way. Is it one of your demons?"
"Cosplay? What's that? This is my true form."
You chuckled at first, thinking that he was joking, until you heard the seriousness of his voice. He could not be a real one. You had thought he was roleplaying as a demon, not being one!
"Really? You're telling me that not only are you a celebrity, but that you're also a demon from down below? Is there any other mind-blowing secret I should know about?"
"Oh yeah, I forgot to mention one little thing: I'm a bit tall at the moment."
Your face fell at the implications once you put two and two together.
"Please tell me those buildings and cars are models or that's the camera angle, right? Right?! How come your voice sounds normal then?"
Baby laughed. "You're funny! I'm filtering my voice for now. Gotta keep you on your toes~"
"What do you want?" You could not help but ask. If Baby were a demon, what plans did he have? Would he not do something already if he wanted you gone?
"I want you so much, Pepper. I need a treat and a special soul like you would hit the spot nicely. And I wanted to see you, face to face, since you amuse me."
"You... want to eat me?"
"Don't worry. I'm not stealing your soul or taking it as energy. I'm just gonna hold you there for a while. Maybe bring you back in the morning. You're safe for now. Besides, it's mine anyway."
"What? My soul? Since when?!"
"Don't you remember? You gave me your soul the last time."
"That was roleplay! You mean to tell me soul dealings can transfer through the internet?!"
"I know, right? It's crazy and it can't do everything, but it works! Now you belong to me~"
You gasped when you suddenly spotted patterns forming on your arms, a faint, purple glow before they disappeared. Baby continued.
"So, let's make it a game, shall we? Hide and seek? I'll come over and find you. If you manage to avoid me for a while, I'll owe you one, and you can have more control over being my snack. What do you say?"
You figured that Baby sounded in a good mood, you had some time to prepare, and you did not have a choice in the matter. You were human, and he was a demon capable of who knew what. Plus, he could pull you in with his words, and deep down, you had interests that tested your survival and instincts.
"Sure. This is so crazy... since I've never done this before, could you go easy on me?" Another laugh.
"Okay, for the first time, I'll make it fair by not sensing your soul directly. It's more fun that way. I'll even show you where I am. I need to practice singing anyway. See you soon!" With that, Baby hung up.
You sighed and collapsed in your seat, still reeling at the revelations one by one. You had a crush on a demon disguised as a K-pop idol who's currently a giant and wants to consume you? At least you had some sense of time to prepare... until you noticed the evening sky turning purple and a deep, smooth voice shaking the air.
"Lost in my spell, now, you can't look away. Don't you know I'm here to save you?"
You paled. Baby was in your city?! You turned to the nearest window. Outside, from a distance, Baby stood underneath a pink sunset, 50 feet tall. His eyes glistened as he licked his top fangs.
You trembled. You cannot make a run for it. It meant immediate capture if you did. Your best bet was to stay on the bus until you were close to home. The few people on the bus or the driver seemed not phased by the giant anyway.
Baby strolled down the streets, humming bars as he gracefully stomped. His footsteps shook the ground in a rhythmic beat. You would glance to see him take his time as if looking, but something told you it was an act. After twenty minutes, the bus stopped right where you needed it to be.
You briskly walked out of the bus, checked your surroundings, and booked it to your apartment, using dark alleyways for cover. The tremors got louder and closer.
"Where are you~?" He crooned playfully. You were about to dash across a street when you hid back in the alleyway once a shadow loomed over you. A giant boot stepped on an empty car in front of you, crushing it like a soda can. You covered your mouth so as not to make any noise.
Baby chuckled. "Don't deny it. I know you like this. You're an open book once you're comfy."
You resisted responding, not to call yourself out, and there was a difference between fantasy and reality. They blurred by this point. You waited until the boots and shadow left before running to your apartment building. Minutes felt like hours as you rushed into the elevator, got to your floor, burst into your apartment, and dove straight to your bed. You wrapped blankets around yourself and screamed into your pillow as you slapped your cheeks over and over.
"Wake up, wake up, wake up!"
"There you are~" You froze at the deep voice that shook your soul, uncovering your face. No, it could not be. You thought you got him off your trail. Your suspicions were confirmed when you heard the building creak. You sat up and saw a large golden eye taking up your bedroom window.
"You made me work up an appetite to find you, Pepper! You're lively for a small human, aren't you?" When he pulled back to give you a smug and sharp smirk, you blushed and slowly got out of bed, backing away slightly.
"Damn, it's like looking at one of those vending machines with all the tasty snacks, right? I wonder what I should pick. Maybe something sweet and spicy like you?" He pressed a claw to your window, gently giving it a few taps before he pointed to his open mouth, then traced his neck with the same finger, trailing it to his abdomen.
You trembled in fear and excitement, not knowing whether to run, hide, or give yourself up.
"Hmm, how to get you and everything you own, though? Wait, I can do this." As if to tease, Baby lowered his hand to three floors below you as he used his claw to cut out a window effortlessly. With a snap of his fingers, all of your belongings disappeared from your home in pink wisps. He then held out his hand and commanded, "Come to Baby."
Suddenly, you froze as your body tingled and your patterns appeared on your skin. Before you could speak, the patterns glowed a bright pink, and you levitated into the air. Your body flung away on its own, an invisible force pushing you out the door, into the hallway, down a few flights of stairs, then out through the opening he had made as you landed a bit roughly into his hand.
Baby grinned in satisfaction, watching the patterns disappear. "There we go, right where I want you." Using a free hand, he pressed it onto the building, his smile a little sinister.
"Tip~" A simple shove sent the building falling and crumbling to pieces. With a laugh, Baby carried you in his hand like a doll while you caught your breath. The way he swung his legs in a fluid yet deliberate motion made him destructive and still the same K-pop star you had seen in public. He stopped at another part of the city, sitting on one of the smaller buildings like a chair as he held you to eye-level with a mischievous grin.
"Now, what to do with a cute morsel like you~? I can't resist you, but you need something else." He glanced around, his eyes brightening at an idea. "I'll dress you up nice before I have you and put you to sleep. We could have more fun and talk tomorrow."
Finding what he was looking for, Baby reached the nearby building and clutched the roof with a free hand, slowly ripping it off. Your eyes widened as you watched him open up a clothing store like a dollhouse. The staff who were in there looked like dolls themselves, scared and confused... until Baby hummed.
"Good evening. I was wondering if my friend could have some fresh sleepwear? You can put it on my tab." He winked, and immediately, the staff blinked as if staring off into a trance, smiling happily in unison.
"Anything for you, Mr. Saja!"
As your eye twitched at the demonic tomfoolery taking place, you felt that something was broken here, but you did not know what.
Baby studied your form and expressions before he lowered you into the store.
"I'll let you dress yourself this time."
After some awkward moments, you ended up wearing an orange long-sleeved shirt and black pants with red chili peppers. Satisfied, Baby picked you back up to eye level. He used a free hand to touch his chest and mutter something ancient (You did make out the word "Gwi-Ma" for some reason) before he nodded.
"I had to make some adjustments, but I'm ready when you are."
You gave him an exhausted glare as if to say you did not have the mental capacity to ask the questions you wanted to ask, nor react appropriately. You did have the energy for one important detail.
"Are you sure I'd be safe? You're not going to absorb my soul for eternity?"
He laughed, "Of course, it's safe. You're too fun to harm that badly! And if I'm wrong, you have my permission to haunt me as a fellow demon or a soul of the damned. Now, come right in. It's time to go home."
Baby opened his mouth wide, revealing a violet tongue and a faint magenta pentagram. You squirmed a little in his grip, not wanting to risk becoming a sacrifice, but his grip was stronger, and your mind was starting to get foggy. He slowly and carefully placed you into his mouth, making you sit on top of his tongue. He then closed his mouth, trapping you inside.
You were forced to lie down, the tongue acting like a water bed as it moved you in different directions, and you would hear occasional satisfied moans. Your only source of light came from the pentagram underneath you. You braced yourself, hoping not to drown in demonic saliva before you suddenly tilted at an angle, sliding into the dark esophagus. Your descent was a guided fall, the walls pulling you in deeper as you felt something press against you for support. Perhaps Baby's finger on his neck? Muffled screams surround you, as well as a faint beating sound. Did demons have hearts? Before you could wonder anymore, you landed inside an open area with a soft plop.
The stomach walls were slightly wet with dark purple and teal tones shaped into patterns and runes. There were no pools of acid to fall into. You felt as if you landed inside a warm and wet sleeping bag or pillow fort. You sat up and leaned against a wall, trying to stay awake or speak, but your energy was draining. You heard Baby's voice croon and echo around you, but in your daze, the only words you could make out were, "You're mine now~"
For a moment, as you dozed off, you saw pink and magenta flames in the darkness surrounding you in your mind. One flame reached for your forehead and rubbed it without burning you. You drifted off to sleep, the warm walls lulling you to a slumber you were sure to wake from.

OK y'all, I've mentioned in a few places that I have some thoughts on the upcoming album and any content we may get surrounding it's production. So here we go. Before diving in, I want to remind y'all, I have no insider access or direct experience in music/film production. I do have expertise in global collaboration and project management so take everything I'm saying from that viewpoint. I'm just a fan that pays attention to how the things that I enjoy came to be. As always, I'd love to hear your ideas and viewpoints, especially those of you that are in the industry!

THE ANNOUNCEMENTS
There is no way the announcements shared during the 01 JUL Live were not highly calculated. It's not even subtle that they had previously talked about exactly what they were going to share. That's why they were teasing Tae about it. That info being as follows:
Expected Album release: Spring of 2026
The team members would all be traveling to the US to jointly produce
World Tour to follow album release
Some benefits of presenting this information this way:
Direct, from-the-members communication. No opportunity for 'others' to spread through leaks and misinformation. This is honestly so relieving. Pretty much every previous album has been shrouded in some level of marketing 'mystery'. But that brings its own host of problems that the we're all kinda over. This time, they're just saying that they're working on an album. No need to continually pester them or in-fight about when it may be happening.
There's also no dramatics being created regarding the members' presence in the US. They absolutely can be accomplishing other things here as well but there's no doubt that album production is happening.
A possible negative consequence though is what could happen if they're not actually ready when they think they will be. All forms of media are used to how frustrating a delayed release can be for the team and consumers alike if the audience has already been made aware of a release date. This is a very real consequence but the team obviously concluded that the risk was mitigated enough or that effects wouldn't be more detrimental than the secrecy. Could also just be creative/strategic exploration.
(One completely unsupported side-opinion that I have though is that the members are clearly signaling that the end goal of this album is the Grammy. I don't actually know enough about the music industry to properly support this but imo, they have been tackling this problem for so many years now and the next attempt is going to focus mainly on networking. Declaring this album will be mostly produced in the US is a statement to the industry and they will be using every opportunity they have in their network to do win it. They have so much more information now with all of the different tactics that were utilized during the solo period. Frankly, i don't care about the Grammys at all but since they still want it, I hope they get it and it can stop being that hill they focus on.)
THE BTS PRODUCTION PROCESS
Time for some blunt honesty in case there are any lingering doubts:
Do not associate the kpop album production with the traditional garage-band group. These are two completely different models with different resources, methodologies, and goals. A kpop album is a business venture, not a passion project.
(frankly most american music is also a business venture these days but that's a separate topic)
Yes, there can be genuine emotions, themes, and messages delivered in kpop. The label of 'genuine' is not reserved for starving artists alone. But do not forget that this is funded by a business and will be justified as such. One is not good or bad, they are just different; some more successful than others in effectiveness of accomplishing their goals.
So what's the process, then? Here are some bullet points of what I'd expect. None of this is set in stone. Just because this is how things have been done before, doesn't mean this is how they'll do it going forward. Some of these items will be concurrent, some will be recurring and some may not happen at all.
Decide to make an album. (We know this step has been complete!)
Determine constraints: resource availability, funding, timeline, contractual obligations, etc.
Resource allocation (aka who will be working on what), what prerequisites exist for each step. Example, it's difficult to create choreography if the music hasn't been created. I'm sure it's been done before but done well...?
Determine song quantity, themes, units, etc. Many of these decisions will likely flex during the project but as we saw in the BE video, they clearly set out to determine goals for each of these.
Outside Resources and obligations: this is honestly one of the least interesting parts for me as a music consumer. I generally don't care about Collaborations, especially with 'big' artists. But that's the game of the industry. Doing favors for others so they can do one back. Connecting with one person to get their audience interested as well. Our guys did a LOT of networking during the solo period and they're likely going to be cashing in and returning those favors as well.
Supplemental development: choreography, tour production, styling, content, performances, bookings, scheduling, etc. Seriously, there's so much this point is almost not even worth mentioning except to remind us that our members are building with the end in mind. Meaning, they absolutely write what they know they can and want to partake in down the line. For example, the choreography to ALL of Jimin's solo work but 'Who' in particular was designed so that he could sing the parts he wanted and not the others.

So funding alone is a huge piece of this pie that we likely won't really know the details of, but with a group like BTS, it's super interesting. During the solo period, I saw a lot of assumption-based rhetoric that was absolutely steeped in financial 'fairness' outrage. All of the money funding album development, performance creation, distribution, merchandising, etc. had to come from somewhere. It's no coincidence that each of the members had brand ambassadorships right as their solo activities were gaining traction. The guys were getting paid for that and depending on the deal, likely were using that (as well as various other sources) to fund their albums. Producers, choreograpers, camera operators, etc. need to be paid for their time (even in-house ones, y'all remember that joke Yoongi made during the Festa dinner about how much he charges?) The locations for mvs, travel expenses to get everyone there, etc. All have significant costs.
It's expensive, we realize this. And when you know you're going to undertaking an expensive endeavor, there will be some people specifically tasks with finding ways to reduce the spend.
SONG CAMP CONTENT
HYBE has absolutely realized that they can sell us content surrounding the members' music production without impacting the quality of the output.
Prior to the solo period, there were the various tidbits on bangtantv but nothing really substantial other than the BE video. There were also those acronym documentaries (Bring the Soul and whatever the others were) but those were mostly focused around the Tours themselves, not the album production. J-Hope and Yoongi's solo docs started down this same path, with hints of production but there were other activities included to make it more of a 'show'. Jimin's Production Diary is just a portion of production, nothing before and nothing with the promo activities. JK's documentary went back to the formula of including promotional activities and RMs documentary (that i honestly don't remember much of because I was so frustrated with it) attempts to tell the production aspect as well. I wouldn't be surprised if we get a Jin documentary but it will likely cover the tour as well so dont expect it anytime soon. Actually, that's a good idea, let's note the timeline of the solo docs:

THEORIES
I'm not a betting person but I'd easily wager that there will be some sort of content surrounding this album's production. Regarding the timeline, content and method? That's where it gets tricky. And I do think it depends somewhat on how events unfold. But here are a couple of hypotheticals:
Content: It covers JUST the song camp time period
Timeline: released sometime in the middle of the world tour, about 6 months after the album release. So, fall 2026?
Distribution: first cinematic then later, it will be released to Disney+ with 'extra' content serially.
Another option:
Content: It covers song camp AND tour
Timeline: SEPT-OCT 2027 (aka the initial round of voting for 2026 release Grammys)
Distribution: Cinematic, with HEAVY marketing in the US

iirc, we do see her doing some stuff to help the community in Simon Says. The flashback for her absences show her saving a cat from a tree and saving a malfanctioning helicopter. But that was back in s1, and even then it was mentioned as an aside in a completely different context rather than the focus.
For a show that's about a supervillain exploiting people who are feeling negative emotions, there isn't a lot of, well, emotion in the show. The superheroing is mainly focused on the action, rather than any sort of human connection the heroes may have with the citizens (blind adoration, mainly towards Ladybug, doesn't count).
You can even see it in how they treat akuma victims. Most of the time the victim is just left there confused while Ladybug and Chat Noir celebrate saving the day. When they aren't, it's usually Ladybug telling them the lesson of the day, which places her in a palce of authority over them, like a teacher gently scolding a misbahving kid, rather than any sort of actual attempt at empathy or solving their problem. I can think of one time it happened (Catwalker bringing the kid's kitty bad in Kuro Neko) but it's far from the rule.
The show barely connects with its own characters. For all that they want to go the psychology complex route, when was the last episode that did proper character exploration? That really delved into an aspect of the character and presented it so the audience could understand them better? The ones that really jump to my mind are the Chloe episodes from s2. Maybe Wishmaker but it's still very diluted.
For an episodic show with little to no plot, these kinds of episodes should be a staple! And yet we get so little of the character's inner world that a big chunk of the fandom gaslighted itself into thinking Marinette has trauma from Chat Blanc.
We sometimes get episodes that focus more on highlighting a character, but even those are not the kind of character exploration I'm talking about. What mlb usually does is introduce some kind of obstacle and then focus on the character's effort to overcome the obstacle. While it does teach about the character, it doesn't do a lot to tell us about who they are as people outside this specific conflict.
Take the side character focused episodes in s6. In each of them, the obstacle of the episode isn't something that highlights an aspect of the character, but rather the obstacle is the focus in and of itself.
We didn't get an episode about Ivan, we got an episode about Ivan's relationship with his dad. We didn't get an episode about Sabrina, we got an episode about Sabrina's social difficulties because of her past. We didn't get a Nathaniel episode, we got an episode about Nathaniel's dealing with his homophobic parents.
This goes to our main character as well. We never get about episodes about Marinette, only her difficulties.
Take s4 for example. Marinette is stressed to all hell because of her guardianship duties and that impacts her life and behaviour in various ways.
...Why?
We never get an answer for this, not on a practical level or a character level. As far as we're aware, all that guardian duty amounts to is "make sure the miraculous aren't stolen and pick new holders if need be". The first could be acomplished by burying the miraculous box in an unmarked location (and keeping the coordinates to yourself) and thd second she'd been doing for a few seasons now. So what's so stressful about this new responsibility?
There are a lot of answers one can come up with, and the fandom sure does. But we don't know what about this is actually stressing Marinette out.
Is it that she has no mentor now? Is it that she's nominally in charge? Is it because she got into her head that guardian responsibilities include a lot more than they actually do? Is it the consequences if she fails? Is it the fact that for the first time in her life she's fully responsible for something serious with no help or safety net?
Each of those answers means something different about Marinette, and so makes her slightly different as a person. The character who's nervous because she has no mentor should face different challanges and growth trajectories from the character who's nervous because because of the consequences if she fails.
Marinette as a character has no depth in canon. The only depth you'll find is by connecting dots yourself and providing whatever explanation you like most to create a coherent character with inner world. But all of that effort exists on the viewer's side, not in the text itself.
It would be one thing if Marinette was a loser protagonist on purpose, there are plenty of characters like that, but the writers are genuinely trying to sell Marinette as a strong female character who deserves her leadership position. The writers act like they've written Batman for teenage girls, but, if she was actually put next to any version of Batman or into similar situations, she'd look like a joke.
And, yet, Astruc treats this sad excuse of a superhero as not a joke, but some kind of gift he's granting to young girl viewers. Astruc is always ready with the "it's for little girls!" defense whenever someone complains about how Cat Noir is treated by the writing and the commentary couldn't shut up about how proud they were of Marinette's "growth" when she got a new powerup from Adrien's sidelining from his own narrative, only moments before she gives up on fighting the main villain and lets the world be destroyed.
Marinette is called the perfect version of herself and the Greatest Ladybug Ever in universe. Marinette is what peak performance from a superhero in the Miraculous universe looks like.
The people behind Miraculous, Astruc especially, seem to genuinely think that Marinette is a powerful character for little girls to look up to. The Miraculous writers really wrote their main lead to be a pathetic loser who fails at every goal she has and constantly whines about how hard she has it and went: "Yes, this is the kind or positive representation little girls deserve in a superhero catered to them."
That's why Marinette being so pathetic pisses me off so much. I love superheroes, and it's a genre that gets its strength from the idea of being cool. Weird physics, magic, moral conflicts and secret identities are all part of superheroes, but so is selflessness and willingness to help. When has Ladybug stopped to comfort bystanders because they were scared? Or to help a cat down from a tree? They're not the same spectacle of flashy superpowers, so the crew completely ignored that aspect of superheroes when they weren't actively mocking it.
It took us eight years, 5+ seasons and a new writer being added to see a Miraculous hero help someone in a way that didn't directly involve an Akuma attack and even then it was initiated by the tertiary heroes and Marinette only came to commandeer the operations because she was in one of her anxiety spirals again, not out of a genuine desire to help. We've only seen the tertiary heroes take the initiative in helping the community in a single episode. Such a basic concept of superheroes was completely unrepresented in this superhero show for so long, outside of a joke character the "real" superheroes mocked for not having powers. But, to me, The Owl feels more like a superhero helping his community than the main lead conspiring against her allies.
Frankly, I think it was the new writer Caroline Torelli, who started writing these superheroes acting like superheroes, because this new direction is there specifically in episodes they contributed to. It just shows how little the people behind this show's original conception actually understand superheroes. It's all about just the visual side of things, the costumes and flashy superpowers, none of the heart and sense of community. The Miraculers don't have civillian allies, like any other superhero would. There's recurring characters who are willing to take orders from Ladybug, but there's no actual connection, let alone community there. And I don't think Torelli alone is enough to fix all that to make Ladybug a cool hero after several seasons' worth of damage.
The Ladybug we see in the show is just so incredibly uncool and runs on empty drama that I feel sorry for the little girls being told that this is the superhero meant for them.

Thinking about IDW Optimus again and the fandom's aversion to even acknowledging he exists bc he's a cop or whatever and like. Most of the time people literally just replace him in fic with some white bread knockoff archivist/librarian, not even bothering to keep in IDW OP's personality (which just bolsters my theory that the problem isn't him being a cop the problem is that he's too multifaceted but I digress).
And it's annoying because you could totally write IDW Optimus as not a cop while still keeping his canon personality. You just have to realize that the reason IDW OP became a cop in the first place is because his formative experiences when he was young shaped him to basically have two priorities: 1. To help people and 2. To do it by being on the ground actively doing something about the bad things happening to people.
IDW OP would not be a fucking librarian or archivist because even though those are noble pursuits that can help people and change the world, and Optimus is educated/smart enough for the profession, he wouldn't be satisfied just teaching people or spreading information about activism or social-historical studies or whatever. He's a mech of action: he needs to be doing things right now, in front of him, to people he sees/interacts with in his own eyes, improving society with concrete actions rather than indirect action or abstract inspiration.
So basically the alternate job ideas I can think of for IDW Optimus are something like being a firefighter (or any first responder really) or even whatever the equivalent would be to international charity organizations, those ones that send volunteers across the world to do stuff like build housing/infrastructure or distribute food or whatnot. I mean I can't imagine that the equivalents to these things would be exactly the same in IDW Cybertron, so you'd have to get a little creative with it, but these are just some ideas of jobs that would fit IDW Optimus' personality while still filling the niche of "not a cop" for people who are just that opposed to it.
Though I think the revulsion against coptimus is annoying in general tbh because IDW is already a continuity that rejects the idea of easily defined good/evil people or groups. It feels like people really want Optimus to be a good person in a very sanitized and academically approved way, so he has to be nice and squeaky clean but also like, a perfect leftist who knows theory and holds the most progressive opinions on every single issue....
There is no room for the idea that good people join bad institutions, there's no room for the idea that the reason people think cops are good guys who help people is bc of the government propaganda everything is saturated with. Hell there's even later issues of the Optimus Prime series by John Barber where Optimus like, MULTIPLE FUCKING TIMES, is shown in flashbacks grappling with the fact that he as a cop/Zeta's regime that he works for might not actually be improving society like they say they are, and dealing with the fact that he feels more like a lesser evil compared to the Decepticons (perhaps not "lesser" at all).
It's like there's this idea in fandom of like, fictional media and opinions on media having to strictly adhere to progressive ideals at all times. So people just go "cops bad, this character is a cop, therefore they suck" without being willing to engage with the idea of like. IDW OP is born wanting to fight injustice and protect people -> a good way to protect people is to fight the people who are hurting them and committing crimes -> surely following the law is a reliable moral code to guide him in this -> becomes a cop because he's been indoctrinated into a society (much like our own) where he was told that the state/the law exist to protect the people and being a cop means you get to fight bad guys that hurt people. There's really so many interesting concepts there that could be (and CANONICALLY IS) explored about how good, well-intentioned people can be led to harmful actions simply because they have been fed the idea that the things they're doing are good/helpful/noble. Which is especially important for a character like Optimus, I think, who has a cultural icon status as The Irrefutable and Perfect Good, so it's really important actually to use IDW Optimus as an example of how even the most noble people you know have held problematic beliefs or done bad things at some point in their life. You know, because no one is born perfect and ideologically pure, and in fact society is constructed in exactly a manner to make people drink the kool-aid and believe that the systems designed to hurt them/others are just a normal, if flawed, society.
I mean the writing in IDW literally has Optimus deal directly and indirectly with the harm he's done as a cop and how people don't/didn't trust him because of that. I don't know what the fuck else this fandom wants if the source material literally saying "OP realizes that cops suck and he hurt people and earned their disdain by doing the things he did" doesn't stop them from going EW cop bastard sucks and is the worst Optimus. Like the narrative barely stops short of outright saying ACAB and Optimus himself would agree with this sentiment.
At that point, the collective fandom beef with IDW OP isn't because he's a cop and the narrative didn't do enough to condemn that. The problem is literally just that people don't read and don't care
TLDR: Consider the fact that good people can do bad things sometimes especially when living from birth in a corrupt society that thoroughly disguises its vices/oppressive structures as completely normal parts of existence

#I love the character growth and I'm so happy that they're together#but everyone is forgetting the absolute angst we're about to receive#like Stolas is going fucking crazy#he cannot help but feel that he really traded a life with his daughter for a life with his on again off again lover#and honestly it's more like “a slim chance” with said partner because they still weren't talking at this point#Stolas already freaked tf out during the season 2 finale#I feel like season 3 will really explore not just a “role” reversal for the couple#but will actively make Stolas grapple with the weight of his actions of the consequences of this relationship#because it's not just some fun time fling while he lives in privilege anymore#he's going to have to fight for everything now#but that lesson will be all for the better as he will learn to appreciate things more and learn to stand on equal footing with Blitz & co.#also also fuck it make this equal footing the start of a class war why not#people already view Blitz as hero of this little movement; I think it could grow and Stolas would represent an equalizing moment#Maybe it could inspire Ozzy and Beelzebub to stand up for their respective partners too

the product of me contemplating about olrox's possible backstory and reading several mexica culture + spanish conquest books for the past 2.5 weeks (was absolutely worth it)
(+ a bit of yapping under the cut)

I've been thinking of him as a warrior from the commoner class or as a priest who was accepted into the calmecac from the same lower class because of his high capabilities (it was possible to accept children who were talented and with good qualities); and the priest version slowly took over - Quetzalcoatl, whose feathered-serpent form olrox takes, is a patron of knowledge, learning and priests; while it is symbolical - for a priest after spanish invasion and all the consequences (erasing of culture, persecution of the religion, converting into the christianity) to have this form in the manner of some kind of support, it also creates a common ground and parallels between olrox and mizrak in the aspects of religion, harsh duty, devotion to divine beings and theological questions, which i found fun to explore :)
i also thought of him being on lesser position in hierarchy - maybe as an offering priest, who could have got higher due to the fall of Tenochtitlan and immense decrease of population.
Anyway, I'm so normal about him and so looking forward to read more about other precolombian cultures now!

Unironically would love to explore this concept in a more serious tone as well. Karlach having met or at least seen Durge around Gortash's home. They were always odd and off-putting, but so was most of Gortash's crowd. Still, their presence was oppressive and she sometimes had to consider them as a threat against him. They could be some noble trying to seize power through him. Or they could be just another bed warmer with mindless intentions. Regardless, they were on her radar. Then of course the Hells happened and after those 10 agonizing years she's finally free, and who does she see first things first? Durge, that same motherfucker who used to haunt the halls of Gortash's manor. Gortash's manor. Karlach doesn't believe them when they claim to not remember the past, convenient amnesia is just a bullshit excuse cowards use but she slowly realizes they're dead serious. Beyond serious, they barely even know who they are. She won't be finding Gortash through them, but maybe she could turn his former adversary into his enemy, give that bastard an extra kick in the ass with some betrayal of the inner kind. However Durge begins to get their memories back, each one more vile than the last. They chose not to tell Karlach about their memories of Gortash, knowing that it may send her into a spiral (justifiably). But each memory spells out a clearer picture as Durge realizes they were not just one of Gortash's dolls. If anything, Durge had some form of power over the man, their mutual obsession fueling a strange and twisted affair. They were neither of each others lapdogs, they were equals. Eventually Karlach finds out and she ends up as the one feeling betrayed. Gortash's "nearest and dearest" was RIGHT THERE the whole time, they were someone she even considered a friend. She regrets giving them the benefit of the doubt, she should've known better than to trust any who aligned, formerly or currently, with that bastard. Maybe they didn't remember who they were at first, but eventually their former self would return.
And then that leaves it up to Durge, if they wish to betray their former relationship with Gortash for the sake of their new ally. Or if they want to finish what they started and let Karlach be just another casualty in their quest to greatness. If they pick Karlach it won't be easy, she will be broken from her shit life and it will take more than a little convincing that they're on her side. Undoubtably she will have Wyll to support her, but there's only so much a shoulder to cry on can offer, especially given what she's been through. Durge won't be forgiven, at least not quickly, but if they put in the time, put in the effort, they could forge something new. Perhaps forgiveness is unattainable, but allyship is possible. But if they pick Gortash I feel it would be oh so simple. He was practically waiting for them to return, every since he got the news his beloved slayer was still alive. Who better to top of their grand scheme than the mastermind themself, Gortash's own lover (if they even dared to call each other such... and perhaps, with all this power in their midst, they now could). They're already at the climax of their story, why back away now? Why keep the people waiting? This is their grand finale.

the long-term impact of buffy’s relationship with angel on her perception of love and her self-worth deserved to be explored more. the show touches on it a few times, but it didn't get nearly enough focus, considering how formative this first romantic experience was.
from the beginning, their relationship is doomed by the narrative : the soul curse, the slayer vs. vampire dynamic, angel's constant disappearing acts, etc. when angel loses his soul, he immediately expresses hatred for buffy. angelus doesn't feel an ounce of love for the girl. whatever angel felt never transferred to his uninhibited counterpart, angelus.
ANGELUS : She made me feel like a human being. That's not the kind of thing you just forgive. (Innocence, 2x14).
from the age of sixteen, buffy starts associating intimacy (emotional and physical) with punishment and hurt. her love is poison. it's the root of evil (angel losing his soul after their first time) and it hurts the people she loves (giles losing jenny). love becomes laced with guilt.
BUFFY (to Giles) : I'm sorry I couldn't kill him for you... for [Jenny]... when I had the chance. (Passion, 2x17)
angel taints buffy's sense of self. he makes her doubt herself. he never stops bringing up her age and immaturity (shocker, high school girl isn't an adult!!!!). it's a recurring theme in their relationship, one the show gives up on for some reason, but it was very much present in the beginning.
ANGEL : You're sixteen years old. I'm two hundred and forty-one. BUFFY: I've done the math. ANGEL : You don't know what you're doing, you don't know what you want... (Reptile Boy, 2x05)
this imbalance is a constant, but both shows gloss it over or try to reverse it. there’s a scene in angel’s spin-off where buffy finds faith with him and asks that she face legal consequences (a reasonable demand for someone who just stole her body). but buffy is painted as the irrational party by the writing. worse, when angel grabs buffy’s arm to stop her from going after a fleeing faith and she fights back, he justifies hitting her, completely disregarding her trauma and focusing on her physicality to distract the viewer from his emotional manipulation.
BUFFY : You hit me. ANGEL : Not to go all schoolyard on you, but you hit me first. In case you've forgotten, you're a little bit stronger than I am. (Sanctuary, 1x19)
the show insists on buffy’s strength, but ignores the emotional and situational imbalance. angel is older, more experienced, and constantly undermines her feelings. the narrative minimizes his mind-games by deflecting. angel twists buffy's need for justice into revenge. he takes her justified pain and shapes it into something vile, gaslighting buffy and invalidating her feelings.
ANGEL : Buffy, this wasn't about you! This was about saving somebody's soul. (...) ANGEL : You came because of Faith. You were looking for vengeance. (Sanctuary, 1x19)
angel plays tricks on buffy's mind during her most formative years. every time he dismisses her pain and struggles, it confirms her insecurities and feeds the voice in her head telling her she's the problem.
there are moments where buffy actively tries to change herself, be someone she's not just to please angel. she tries to lose herself in a performance for the older guy. one notable instance is her halloween costume choice : a woman from angel’s era, prettier from buffy's point of view, a woman that he would have been attracted to back then. ironically, buffy actually does lose herself because the costume is cursed.
BUFFY (to Angel) : I just wanted to be a real girl for once. The kind of fancy girl you liked when you were my age. (Halloween, 2x06)
not only does her love for angel cause tragedy and evil, it also makes her feel small, not worthy, not enough. it touches her self-esteem. this is apparent when angel mocks buffy after their first time, tapping right into her teenage insecurities :
ANGELUS : You got a lot to learn about men, kiddo. Although I guess you proved that last night. BUFFY : What are you saying? ANGELUS : Let's not make an issue out of it, okay? In fact, let's not talk about it at all. It happened. BUFFY : I don't understand. Was it me? Was I not good? (Innocence, 2x14)
he is later painted as the older guy who changed after sex. the show veers off-course in season 3 and completely disregards this aspect of their relationship in order to paint them as a tragic romance instead of sticking with the original subtext : teenage buffy, the "kiddo", being groomed and blaming herself.
BUFFY : Do you remember that guy Angel? JOYCE : Angel, the, um... the college boy who was tutoring you in history? BUFFY : (...) We're sort of dating, were dating. Going through a serious off-again phase right now. JOYCE : Don't tell me. He's changed. He's not the same guy you fell for? (Passion, 2x17)
you can see the impact later with parker. buffy thinks something is wrong with her. her instinct when parker decides that she was just a one-night stand is to put the blame on herself and question her worth, reminiscent of her conversation with angel after their first time :
BUFFY : Parker did I do something wrong? PARKER : Something wrong? No, of course not. It was fun. (...) PARKER : I'm sorry if you missed something. I thought things were pretty clear. BUFFY : I'm sorry if I miss. I'm sorry. PARKER : Look, I really have to go now. BUFFY : Parker wait. I did this all wrong.
angel was the first love that turned evil because of her touch. he was the first love that didn’t stay. so in buffy’s mind, it rings “this is all my fault” alarm bells. she’s not worth staying for. people leaving is her responsibility. it's always the slayer's responsibility.
then she settles for riley despite the lack of love or passion, to regain the normalcy that was shattered by angel. her relationship with riley only happens because of the damage angel caused.
BUFFY : I think [Riley] cares about me but I just feel like something's missing. WILLOW : He's not making you miserable? BUFFY : Exactly. Riley seems so solid. Like he wouldn't cause me heartache. (...) WILLOW : The pain is not a friend. BUFFY : (...) Part of me believes that real love and passion have to go hand in hand with pain and fighting. I wonder where I get that from. (Something Blue, 4x09)
she stays with him even though she’s clearly not fulfilled (running away to slay vampires in the middle of the night instead of staying with him). but even then, riley leaves. being in a relationship with the slayer hurt him in some way (well, his ego). buffy was caught in yet another relationship where she had to change herself, this time because she was too intimidating for regular human riley.
all the men in buffy’s romantic and sexual life made her feel like she tainted them in some way. they were worse off with her. angel loses his soul. she wasn’t good enough for parker. she was too slayer-y for riley. she voices this insecurity to angel in the series finale :
BUFFY : I always feared there was something wrong with me, you know, because I couldn’t make it work. (Chosen, 7x22)
this all starts with angel and bleeds into every single one of her relationships because he shaped her worldview at such a young age. angel being completely unable to love her without a soul also made it impossible for her to accept spike's love, at first. because if spike could love her, then why couldn't angel?

at first, spike tries to drag buffy down with him, to keep her in the darkness, where he belongs. he isolates her further from her friends after her resurrection. by then, corrupting her is the only way for him to have her.

but spike ends up having an epiphany thanks to love. the only way is to rise to her level. he's beneath her and he accepts it.

this is the culmination of years and years of performing goodness to please her, failing, trying again, that lead to one conclusion : he needs the missing piece. it's love that leads him to this. he got his soul back to be her equal. buffy is intricately tied to spike's growing identity. she's part of him. buffy changed him on a fundamental level, in a way that was never seen before. she made him go against his vampire nature.
SPIKE : You know, everything used to be so clear. Slayer. Vampire. Vampire kills Slayer, sucks her dry, picks his teeth with her bones. It's always been that way. I've tasted the life of two Slayers. But with Buffy... It isn't supposed to be this way! (Seeing Red, 6x19)

and even after his ensoulment, he still kneels in front of buffy. he voluntarily puts himself beneath her, to profess his love for her just the way she is. spike loves all of her, the failures, the cracks, the shortcomings. he loves her for trying and failing and being imperfectly good.

caring for spike means loving the darkest parts of her. caring for spike means finally accepting that her love can be a power of good, that her relationship with angel doesn't define how she loves. through spike, buffy frees herself of the self-inflicted guilt in her failed relationships.
the last scene is extremely symbolic. spike gives buffy her fire back.

their clasped hands burn. fire symbolizes purification. when spike burns, it's the ultimate step of his redemption. purification of the soul. when buffy's hand burns with his, it signifies the change in how she views love. it's cleansed. it's pure. it's life-changing. it heals. she takes spike's burning hand because she's not scared of love anymore. because she accepts it, fully, in all its beauty and complexity.
angel was the problem. parker was the problem. riley was the problem. there is nothing wrong with her.

Oscar's jaw relaxed a bit at her words, but he still looked unsettled as he watched Franco walk away. "I just don't like the way he was looking at you. Like he wanted to devour you right there in the paddock."
Y/n rolled her eyes at Oscar's possessiveness. "Come on, let's go back to your drivers' room. I'm sure you're eager to get ready for practice."
She took his hand and led him away from the paddock, leaving Franco behind. As they walked, Oscar's grip on her hand tightened, his jealousy still simmering beneath the surface.
As soon as the door to Oscar's private drivers' room closed behind them, he pushed Y/n up against the wall, his body pressing against hers. "I can't stand seeing other men flirt with you," he growled, his lips crashing into hers in a heated kiss.

You know when someone asks why Miko is my favorite tf character and not someone like Optimus or Starscream. I could give a bs smart answer like I relate to her, she has great themes that can be explored, I randomly had hyperfixated on her, or Miko is one of the best human characters in this fandom. Which don't get me wrong it is true; that's a part of the reason she's my favorite, but it's not the main. If I'm being completely honest with myself she's my favorite because........

Let's go down the list here:
First day with the autobots she saw Bulkhead rip out a vehicons guts right in front of her and thought it was cool.
Convinced Bulkhead to try indirectly murder Breakdown.
Went for an axe and tried to fight Soundwave's tentacle.
Killed hardshell. (This is a given)
When she learned about the autobots leaving to cybertron she immediately made plans to move there. Which isn't really crazy but I think it's really sweet and I wanted to bring it up.
Regularly sneaks along missions she knew are extremely dangerous and have proven to be dangerous in the past.
Threatened overlord of the decepticons Megatron to his face.
Killed four vehicons. (Which btw I did not know about for the longest time wtf?? I get their canon fodder but still.)
Helped send Soundwave to the shadow zone. Which to her and the other kids knowledge at the time were he would slowly starve to death.
Just the general love of extreme violence.
If Starscream and the other vehicons hadn't fled she would have 100% tried to kill them in the apex armor.
In the comics Miko asked if they could "do it again" after she freed Raf from mind control and he had sent decepticons out of the base through a loopback from the ground bridge.
Everyone in the fandom collectively agreeing Miko getting a gun would single handedly cause the destruction of the entire state of Nevada.

A dream land - DP X DC Prompt
Okay, so I was thinking about that episode "Perchance to dream" where Bruce is trapped in a dream world and this, even thought really different, came to my mind.
Danny is king or prince of the infinite realms. He's been working on personalizing/decorating his castle in the infinite realms. When he feels someone walking just outside the castles walls. The thing is, that someone isn't a denizen, they aren't in a corporeal body, but he can feel that they are very much alive and feel distinctly human. He approaches the person to ask why and how they are in the infinite realms, but they fade away before he gets the opportunity.
Clockwork, who was with him at the moment, tells him that the visitor from the living, was just the soul projection of someone that was sleeping, and then refuses to elaborate further. Since it's something that was to do with sleeping, Danny decides to go and ask Nocturn, it seemed like a reasonable assumption that he was the one at fault for the soul projection.
Contrary to what he thought, Nocturn informed Danny that Sleeping soul projection was a natural phenomenon that he didn't control. The land of dreams, ("My domain" - Nocturn reminds him), was in the infinite realm after all, and those who have been close to death sometimes slipped they're whole soul instead of just their mind, and ended up all over the infinite realms.
It isn't too different from a lucid dream for them, the body gets all the benefit of the sleep, the mind feels rested if they had a good time in the realms. Except, if they hurt their soul too bad during their little trip, it would have real consequences. Loosing memories, abilities regression, migraine, pain that reflects the soul damage, all either temporary until the soul healed, or permanent and deteriorating, and in some occasions finishing in the persons death. In the latter, the soul is usually too damaged and cease it's existence, or have enough ectoplasm and emotion to form into ghosts with crack cores whose existence is instantly in danger.
Danny clearly didn't like the image that was painted to him, so he asked Nocturn if there was really nothing that he could do. It took a lot of talking and convincing, but eventually Nocturn admitted he could be able to direct the soul projecting to appear on a certain place, but he refused to babysit anyone. Which was enough for Danny, all he needed to do was make another expansion in his castle.
He decided to make a garden to receive their soul projecting guests. The garden was enormous, with all kinds of spaced within it. Playgrounds, picnic spaces, soft benches, tables with ghost and space teamed board games, fountains, and of course, the beautiful flowers that surrounded and decorated the place. Once he got ghosts with gardening, protection and caring obsessions on the place to look out for the souls, he was ready to receive them. It took him by surprise the amount of people that came, the garden was never crowded, but was never empty either, and souls of all ages and places were visiting at all times.
He kept expanding the garden as he heard of new things their guests wished for. He enjoyed spending time in the middle of the garden where souls passed by but rarely appeared, it was calm, but not completly quite with the background noice of the soul enjoying their dreams, and he could do the more mundane king/prince work. Until, he starts getting a regular visitor on his little space of the garden.
Choose the DC character you prefer, my idea is for people who hasn't died in the past but has been in the doors of death (so died and came back would be disqualified but you do as you prefer), but I'm going with Tim.
The soul of a boy around his age appears just in front of him, as usual when he greets new arriving soul, he welcomes him with a gentle smile and tells him he is free to explore the garden. A ghost taker is assign to him. The soul, as usual, seems confused and like he wished to asks questions, but seems content to ask them to his tour guide, and Danny continues with his own duties.
But then, the same soul continues to appear in the same place every two or three days, they exchange greetings and every time talk for a bit longer before the boy leaves to explore once more. It's rear to have multiple visits from one soul, even more so for said soul to appear in the same place every time. By the four time, Danny decides to take a break on his royal duties and accompany his new friend.
~ They get close, and have cute scenes, Tim asks a lot of questions and Danny answers and not-answers a lot of questions ~
One day, Tim shows up as usual, but he is in full Red Robin costume, and well, Danny wasn't expecting an identity reveal.

On the Bats side:
There's an attack of some villain that's able to put Red Robin (or character of your choice) on a sleeping beauty type of sleep while carrying a serious injury, were he stays sleep until teammates or backup gets him out of it. The event affects his soul, making him disconnect partially from the land of dreams and making his soul sleep project almost every time he sleeps.
Tim starts sleeping more often. It's worrying at first, Bruce being paranoid does every test in the book, despite Tim saying he's just finding sleep easier now. But, he was just affected by sleeping magic and suddenly his sleeping easier? Seems like a side effect, and that makes it worrying.
Tim's health in general improve, just like he's concentration and productivity. Who would have thought that working rested actually was more productive than working on less than three hours of sleep and missing obvious details and clues due to how tired you are.
With everything not only being okay, but better than before, paranoia about Tim's new sleeping schedule soon dies, and instead is replaced with teasing about how he used to refuse to rest kicking and screaming, and now he may sleep more than any of them.
On Tim's side, he's loving being able to soul project so often. He knew from the start he was in a different dimension, and he just wanted to know the hows, whys, and everything else. So far, he seems to do it at least once every three days, and he's even gone two times in a row a couple of times.
The garden had a lot of things to do, but Tim doesn't care about that, he's more interested in all the information he's getting. The first 3 times he was given different ghost nanny's, who were more focus on entertaining him and didn't really answer direct question. But then king/prince Phantom decided to accompany him personally, and everything went smoother. He was going back to get to know more about this new world, and maybe to know more about the cute prince/king too. He might also have gotten some better looking pajamas.
Now, he has a mission that takes more than a couple days with some people in his team that hasn't yet sen his face. He didn't realize how difficult it would be to do all nighters after getting used to a sleep schedule. He would usually try to go as long as possible without sleeping, but he decides that he should take advantage of the safety of where they're staying and sleep a bit too. He ended up soul projecting in full Red Robin costume. He tried to play it cool, maybe Phantom wouldn't know it was him.
"Red Robin, even if you didn't appear on the same spot as always, I can feel your soul. I know who you are."

So, from a worldbuilding perspective, wizards have schools, right? It's an easy 1:1 to go from the idea of people who gets their magic from study to the cultural touchstone of academia, and that helps us figure out what institutions and cultural norms are like in our setting.
Correspondingly, clerics have temples, place where their connection to the divine was fostered among a community of fatihful who share their devotion if not their magical gifts. If you were in a d&d world and needed someone with cleric skills, you'd head toward a temple.
But what do Sorcerers have? They're usually presented as one off oddballs or magical oddities but if power exists it's a logical consequence of worldbuilding that there's going to be institutions dedicated to preserving and refining that power.
I'm going to argue that Sorcerers have dynasties, an extended family who share the collective potential for inheriting the magical gift of their powerful ancestor(s). Dynasties would likely be closely tied to the reigning power structure, extended privileges and patronage the same way that noble families are in exchange for their marital support. If you were a ruler in a d&d world, having Battlecasters on hand to shore up your powerbase is just as important as having cavalry and footmen, so you want to make sure the people who are capable of passing down their magical gift are having kids so that their heirs can support your heirs.
This puts a sorcerous dynasty in an interesting position depending on how people in your world think that magic is inherited. Is the gift recessive? Do you breed for it or follow your heart? Are you having too few children or too many? How does that factor into material inheritance? What do you do with all the children who don't show signs of being able to do magic? What if the gift skips a generation or two one of THEIR children show signs of sorcery? Can you let them marry into other families knowing you might be giving away some of your power? Could you use that as a political bargaining chip? How do you handle bastards? What's your stance on monogomy? How do you handle fertility issues? Is the magic waning over time or is it just diluted or are none of your heirs just not living up to your potential? Is there some unadvised ritual or alchemy or dark pact you can make to restore greatness to your line or awaken dormant potential? Does intermarriage with other magical practitioners of different disciplines strengthen or weaken the chance of inheritance? Is there a way to bend politics in your favour to ensure you get this infusion of new blood? Is that baseborn adventurer with the sorcerous gifts a threat to your power or a potential spouse for your firstborn?
All these are brilliant adventureseeds that I don't think I've seen explored all that often. There's only a specific type of player and a specific type of adventure that are concerned with court politics/brigerton style affairs of the nobility, but making those nobles into spell-slinging-sorcerers make them FAR more relevant characters for the background of an adventure.
