Can I talk about the whole Reynie is a villain thing for a second because your Reynie in the snow story has been living in my brain RENT FREE since I read it and it WILL NOT LEAVE and can you just imagine building off of that to make him into a villain? Kinnporsche Notes and thoughts Episode 12

This started out as a way for me to keep notes. Something to look back on when writing my posts. One day I was going to skip writing them and I got messages. I realized that this was something personal and special that we bonded over. Thank you for your friendship and support 💜💜💜

We start off with Porsche dropping Chay off at school. It's a beautiful moment. I am surprised that Porsche is missing something is wrong. Though likely putting it down to a new school.

Chay is every break up MOOD. Have we not all been there at least once. Okay maybe not all of us but a majority. Emotional over load, run away, and change hair. There is a check list I'm sure.

I love how Pol still treats Porsche like Porsche but the new guy treats him like he is the boss.

Where is Kinn? Kinn didn't take bodyguards? Then he is up to something he doesn't want the to know about. I do think some of this is motivated by concern.

"Arm, code red" Arm immediately stands up and goes away. Remember when I said that the main bodyguards started treating Porsche more as a boss long ago. They are completely loyal to him. Kinn knows it too. That's why he trusts these guards the most too.

"Kinn, Are you cheating on me" Kinn would cut a nut before he cheated on Porsche. It's sad that Tawan has caused these insecurities. Though, I truly believe the big motivation is more concern.

His button has a mic. Hahaha. I put money on that being Porsche's doing.

Look at the dude flirting with Kinn. Kinn immediately looks uncomfortable and his eyes shift quickly. He knows either Porsche is listening or that someone who will report to Porsche is!

Smart man Kinn. He's like, we just not gonna say shit.

I love the coconuts. They have codes and their not afraid to use them!

Look at Kinn's face when Porsche is brought up. He has made sure its blank, with only a little anger showing through.

But then he inhales through his nose and swallows. This is the moment he has to deal with this and book it home.

Kinn made a half ass excuse backed with authority and booked it.

First thing to notice is that Pete searched the room to find that book. So he had to see those bolt cutters right? I sent the picture to the electrician who verified that it does in fact look like a bolt cutter.. The only reason he gave me for why Pete wouldn't use them "hell, he is a glutton for punishment, clearly"

We are about to deep dive into some multi-layers. "Where did you get that" and Pete replies with sass "I went to buy it." Once Vegas lost his anger, Pete once again became himself. What's more Vegas is amused and plays back "That book doesn't suit an idiot like you"

Look at Pete though, he is not appreciative of this comment at all. "Idiot, that's you" Again Pete is just being himself with Vegas. Back to their normal selves.

I am not going to go too deep into the blood types here. As @biochemjess has pointed out here. It's just sugar on the blood. I do think what's important to the conversation to know that Pete is O and Vegas is AB. One can give and the other can receive. The other can't receive what the other can give.

Vegas is staring at the hedgehog. When Pete calls his name, Vegas immediately shifts his body to face Pete. "What's your blood type" "AB" and Pete smiles and goes, "that's so cool, I wish I were AB" why? He hasn't yet read about AB but he wants to be it? Because he wished that could be the same? That they could equally give and receive?

Vegas finds Pete amusing because he doesn't get it yet. Then he asks Pete what his blood type is and it's O.

We find out that AB is peculiar, he looks open on the outside but is actually closed on the inside. Also difficult to understand emotionally. Volatile. And Pete says "this is so accurate" which amuses Vegas.

Pete knows Vegas. Do you really think he would know him so well, in such a short period of time, if not paying attention?

After Pete points out the book is Vegas' we see Vegas staring at the hedgehog. This is when we can see a change in his body language.

He leans forward to look closer in the cage. Vegas gets pissed at sensitive. Why? He has been calm and humorous up to this point. He says "whose weak" He is worried about his pet and is afraid to show it. Pete says "sensitive not weak, you are in need of love"

Vegas says "fucking leave it alone" and kicks the book. Why the mood change? Several reasons. His pet, one of only a few things he loves is not well. The other is Pete and Pete is simply on vacation.

Vegas has left bolt cutters you guys. He is simultaneously waiting 9n Pete's escape at the same time he is dreading it.

Pete is confused. He's looking around to see where the change is coming from. We see Vegas looking at the hedgehog. Pete looks at Vegas then the hedgehog, narrows his eyes and tilts his head as if thinking.

Porsche waiting at the window in his bodyguard uniform. Kinn is approaching hesitantly. His face already showing concern. He is unsurprised to be pushed away. He is clearly upset when he asks what's wrong. He already knows. Otherwise he would react with confusion and anger but instead he is trying to give off calm.

He's a man walking a tight rope and knows it. "Do I look like a fool" "What are you thinking" are you seeing it. He's being calm and soothing cause Porsche is a ticking Bomb he can't let go off.

Let me just say that Kinn IS nailing the Dominant right here. He is in the wrong and he is owning it. He is letting Porsche vent and communicate but he is walking him back, enclosing him. While keeping his tone controlled and moderate. It says, I am confident. I fucked up but I'm still here, I still have you, and I'm confident I can fix this.

Chan only addresses Mr. Kinn. And blocks Porsche. This makes me nervous guys. Something about this seems not right.

Tricking Porsche to work there and he knows about the car crash. Kinn is nervous.

The story doesn't add up. You put Porsche in a dangerous job to care for him and his brother? He might make more money but how are they having a better life... Doesn't add up daddy.

Kinn puts a hand on Porsche to remind him who he is talking to. Porsche pushes back, saying he knows but he will say his peace.

Kin sees how angry Porsche is. "I think you went to far" also reminder I'm on your side Porsche. Korn "Yes, I think so too" code for I didn't know my son's would get so attached.

Porsche tells daddy to shove it. Kinn tries to stop him. Daddy tells Kinn to go.

Once again when hurting Vegas heads to Pete. Pete though hurt doesn't hesitate to sit up and help. He isn't surprised the hedgehog is sick.

There have been so many guards but now there are none? Why? Vegas could be lying but he hasn't been lying to Pete since everything changed.

Now follow me. Last time Vegas was really upset he left a belt but he was waiting for Pete because he realized he left the belt. So do you really think he doesn't know he left a key. He also told Pete there are no guards. Who he probably sent somewhere so that Pete could escape. He's familiar with Hedgehogs and knows a vet isn't going to help at this point. Probably realized it earlier in the day. He is giving Pete the opportunity to escape. Maybe he thought he hadn't used the cutters because of the guards?

And maybe he was right because why else has Pete not used the cutters but now uses the keys?

Reminder. Again. Pete is not a super sweet nice guy. He only gives a shit about the select people he cares about. If you keep making him sweet, you are going to miss the real significance if Pete. He loves Vegas.

Vegas is not surprised that Pete is free. Only that Pete is coming to his side. "He is dead"

Pete inches closer and then puts his hand on Vegas' leg. Offering support and it breaks Vegas. I swear that I think that night when Vegas removed his last mask , that he well and truly removed them. Vegas is just him with Pete. Again, being vulnerable does not strip Vegas of his Dom status. I am vulnerable with my subs and none of them have ever thought less of me. That is not what makes me a Dom.

I love that when Vegas cries, Pete tears up. Their pain is shared. Then Vegas looks at Pete, really soul deep looks. For a moment everything is quiet like the pain is forgotten and then suddenly Vegas' face is etched with intense pain. Like he just realized something.

When Pete hands Vegas the flower. We can see they are sitting much closer together.

Vegas stands and waits on Pete. When he walks away, he has no doubt Pete will follow... Pete is on vacation. He isn't here forever but in this moment he chose to be there.

"Why didn't you run away" and Pete lies "I don't even know"

My dad had me take care of the Hedgehogs since little. One by one they all died until one left. "He still left me too" "I didn't even get to name him" why? He should have had time. This is a statement of regret. He thought by not naming him he would be less attached and he realizes he was wrong. He tried not to get close but he did anyway. Are you guys catching the double meanings here???

Pete says "If you're feeling sad, that means it's important" Vegas cries more and then says, "Everything I've loved, leaves me"

There is a very fine line between sadomastic and self harm. The difference should be the pursuit of endorphins versus a desire to be punished. For us though; feelings, emotions, and pain are all tied together. And a break the camels back situation can lead to blurred lines. Usually there is a support system to guide you back. Or lead you to safer, saner ways. What support system does Vegas have though?

Vegas proves that he sees Pete too. "But you like me like this, when I'm moody" you see the real me and it excites you. Just admit it.

Vegas "I know exactly what I want" he's had regrets. He knows hiding from it won't fix it. "How about you, Pete" "How do you like it" admit you want me as badly as I want you. "You're Psycho" to which Vegas only smiles and doesn't deny.

And Pete realizes what Vegas is saying and takes this moment for himself. Vegas surprised quickly slides into so fucking happy.

I love the fucking hair grab. Pete started it but Vegas has control.

Pete licking his own arm. Is a classic sign of being gone gone. You're so high in the endorphins that everything is pinging and instinct is telling you to savor it all. Everything is heightened. Smell, taste, sound and it's just driving you higher.

Make know bones about what Pete is saying by handing over the rope. He is absolutely and unquvically submitting.

Okay that knot is gorgeous. You are seeing the tighten but that type of not has you initially tye with two fingers within the rope then you tighten after lapping. It's secure enough to not have touch give for too much wiggle but lax enough to have longer before nerve concerns. That particular rope is damn good rope, it's not rough and it's thick which will distribute better.

Now girls, students with all sorts of quirk and backgrounds can be accepted to U.A. I expect you all to respect the people on this t.v as your future colleagues. NO JOKES."

"Pst..wish she would just shut up so we can see the hot guys..." Maiyumi whispered to no one particular

"I know, I haven't seen a man since I got kidnapped last year."

"Most of us havent seen anyone since being kidnapped, or you know, FUCKING ARESTED!" Y/n whisper-yelled. She was still very pissed that even though, she was obviously kidnapped-and meant to be killed- the fucking police blamed her. Dad chalked it up to them being jealous, but y/n really wasn't having it. Imagine it's the third time you were kidnapped and tortured before the age of 16, and it was supposedly your fault. 

Technically, they could've arrested her for burning down the building two weeks later, obviously while empty, she admitted that was wrong. Still, they got what they deserved, and she got frozen yogurt from down the street. As she would say: now that's proper treatment after a kidnapping 😎

"I heard midnight is gonna be there," Katna whispered towards the group, front the back of the room. Mind you, she was in a position to pounce, considering, much like her classmates, she hadn't seen a boy in years. 

"MIDNIGHT IS SOOO HOT" y/n yelled, forgetting that their teacher was in the front cursing herself for not accepting that sugar-baby job, and never meeting these obnoxious and horny teens. 

"For FUCKS SAKE, JUST WATCH THE TV"

As the teacher yelled all heads turned to face her and ignore their previous conversations. Y/n and Maiyumi had grown soft smiles, finally welcoming back the teacher they know and love. 

You see, LADY STATIC was an ex-pro hero, her quirk was projection. She could pick up any video signals from any device and project exactly what the device was seeing, or playing. She called all cameras her bitch....several times. So, as far as teaching went, she could only last a couple of minutes of seriousness in the beginning of class each day, before she erupted in a fit of lewd comments, brags, and most importantly curse words.

The black screen of the tv suddenly turned on revealing the large stadium that must be where the festival would take place. Y/n didnt really want to watch, it made her kind of sad knowing there were kids out there with the energy to try at something so dumb. A competition where you stay within grade, with supervision, and limits, and rules, and no real risk. It all sounded boring to her. She would either want to sit in bed eating and watching anime, or actually feel something. 

The idea of a battle where you aren't risking your life seemed pretty dull to her. See...y/n along with her best friend maiyumi, was an adrenaline junkie. Those two were the biggest non-villain troublemakers the world has yet to see. 

Finding it fun to jump off bridges, run across intersections, and fight each other with no rules or precautions. After living a life where most people you meet want you dead, and most of your life has just been trauma, everything gets more and more boring. Until you don't even mind risking your life just to feel something. 

However, what y/n did feel, very frequently, was horny. She wouldn't lie and say that she has indulged in some things, despite there being only girls in her private hero academy. However, she craved men, simply because they were something she hadn't had yet. So in the nature of being royalty, if she hadn't had it, she wanted it.

"How could say that, you meant to be representing our school"

"Not my fault the rest of you are just stepping stones to my victory."

Y/n finally focused back on the screen, she was seeing a very up close image of a blonde boy with red eyes, this being the first man she saw since the police 5 months ago. Her eyes lit up, and sub-consciously her body started to glow different colors. Shifting as quickly as the Led lights in her dorm. 

"Mind your quirk princess" Saina, the class grump-who lowkey crushes on y/n- sneers. 

"Aww, sorry, thanks for reminding me daddy" Y/n responded, feigning innocence but still not breaking eye contact with the screen. 

She mentally focused on subsiding her quirk, but it took awhile for her to completely stop glowing. 

Once she was y/n watched the first parts of the festival, noting exactly what that blonde boy was doing. Not without checking out some of the other students. Obviously, but something about those red eyes had her enticed. So she made sure to focus on him. 

As she watched she learned that his quirk was fire, and he used it very differently than she did. She scribbled down a random note about it to make it seem like she was studying and trying to improve herself. Then, focused back on every intricate curve of his face instead. How he scowled, he really looked angry, but being one of those U.A. kids, she couldn't help but doubt he really had anything to be angry about. 

Soon the girl found herself imagining him in some sort of serious situation, what could make somebody so angry? 

And before she knew it, his fighting figure disappeared from the tv as an image of midnight replayed him, announcing that he had one his fight. The last fight wasn't it? Meaning that the rage boy must've won the whole thing. y/n really wasn't impressed, obviously he was only fighting other U.A. students. How hard could that be? However, she was excited that he won for some reason.

While y/n watched him she couldn't help but wish she was the one fight. Oh to be punched by that man.  Every kick he would throw sent goosebumps down her body. Plus when he used that quirk, shit was it hot. Pun intended. Fire seemed like such a simple quirk, but simple works best. That  last fight against Todoroki, that excited her. 

See, y/n liked adventures away from the school ground, and since she could fly..well. She knew Todoroki.  He was always considerate enough not to be weirded out by her when she would sneak into his house, her parents knew his dad well, so she pretty much only knew that one place.  He was logical and so he understood that she isn't really perverted, she simply hasn't seen boys in a very long time.  Todoroki figured if he hadn't seen a female in three years he might become more fond of them as well. 

"Now lets award the metals" 

She looked up at the screen to see a podium holding the winners and runner ups. Atop it was the boy, he was announced as Katsuki Bakugou. He was chained to the post and attacking the air, and y/n found this insanely hot. She assumed that since Todoroki hadn't given his all, that boom boom might be upsetting. However, she never expected to see this beautiful sight on the tv screen of her classroom. The sight was stuck in her mind for days. 

She thought about it during dance class. 

She thought about it during quirk training. 

She thought about it during lunch.

During "sleepovers"

Even during visit time with her parents. It was then she decided she had to do something about it. Now, even though most girls at her school looked down upon U.A. the parents and staff didn't. For the girls it was about how truly jealous they were that those students, even with lesser power, would get to become heros. While us here, would become noblewomen, or princesses or be married off into other famous quirk families.

Y/n only was jealous because her mother spent more time with U.A. students than with her and her brothers. Seeing her mother was midnight, yes, the pro-hero. While that sounds cool, it isn't. Her mother and father dated for 1 month before getting married on a whim. Her father being a prince was something mom always described as FUCKINZg SEGGSYYY. Yes, you could blame midnight for y/ns horny behaviors. 

Unfortunately for midnight, royal quirks don't mix with other quirks. None of her children have her quirk. Her daughter has Elementus total control, her middle son has Elementus manipulate, and youngest son has Elementus transform. So she is left with a 7 year old that can turn himself into water if he doesn't want to get in trouble....yeah. So that at home life was strange...

"Mom, dad, I wanna be hero"

However, in the moment, y/n forgot about her dream future. All she wanted in that moment was to see boom boom everyday. yuh, I said it..boom boom.

"Babe, she has a fair point...plus its not like chiyo can do anything with his quirk"

"What do you mean?! CHiyo's quirk is so cool dad, one time he took all the oxygen out of my bod and then I couldn't do anything, it was so cool!"

Of course, any child if Mello's would have the urge to surprise him it inconvenient times. "Mello" he spoke loudly, trying to shake his partner awake. “Mello, it’s time!” He hissed irritably, shaking him harder. Blue eyes started fluttering open as the other moaned unhappily before half lidded eyes focused on him a “Oh shit,” Mello slurred, before his eyes closed and he went back sleep. (2/2)

“Mello!” Near grumbled loudly as the older successor so easilyseemed to fall back to sleep once more. He knew Mello was tired from working a lot. He knew that all the extra work took a lot of him, out of both of them… But considering how much Mello had stressed wanting to be present for the birth of their second child, seeingthe ease with which he fell back asleep, Near couldn’t help thinking the other was already falling short.

This wasn’t working. He’d have to rely on himself, he figured. So, he pulled away from Mello and hissed as he forced himself to sit up on the side of the bed. He touched the large swell of his stomach where their second child was demanding his attention in the most important of ways.

Nine months had been hard, exacerbated by having to navigate not just the changing of his body and his attitudes, but having to do so in the presence of Mello, and Michael as well.

Michael…

The young boy was so excited to meet his new sibling… to find out whether it was a boy or a girl, to be a big brother. Near wanted his son to be present after the birth of his sibling, but he didn’t want Michael in a situation where he might see this… to see him like this… Michael was already so sensitive and caring towards Near’s state, always asking if he was okay, and offering to help him however he could. But this, the helplessness alone, Near figured, would terrify him…

But now that it was happening, he found himself wishing that Michael was here to, in the very least, go wake his father up, instead of staying with Rester until after the birth.

“Ah!” A new wave of pain shot through Near, again, causing him to double over. Why did it hurt so bad already? Had his contractions been this intense, this quickly when he was pregnant with Michael?

‘The human body isn’t programmed to remember pain.’ He told himself. Yet, as he sat there worrying that perhaps the intense pain meant something was going wrong he found himself wishing that he could remember those finer details…

Pushing himself to his feet, they no longer felt achy and sore like they had over the last month or so. Instead, they were like jelly, unstable, shaky, weak. His breath trembled as he tried to such in air while forcing his body to carry him just a few feet forward, to the bathroom attached to his bedroom. He grabbed the door frame for support, haphazardly searched the wall for the light switch…

He needed a minute… just a brief moment to catch his breath before he would decide what to do about the situation. He sank down to the side of the tub, the cool porcelain feeling good against his warm palms that gripped the side.

The pain in him wavered just a moment… just long enough for him to start trying to think, and plan. If Mello was sound asleep, would Near be able to drag himself upstairs in time? Would he be somehow harming their child by walking all that way in his current state? Would the increased time it would take him to get there cause harm to their baby who demanded freedom from inside him, yet had nowhere to go?

Hot tears dotted his eyes as everything swirled within him. Nothing felt like the right thing to do. He hadn’t even had enough sense to grab his phone from the nightstand to be able to call anyone for help. “Please…” He heard himself plead, to nobody in particular. Or perhaps only to himself, to find the strength to do what was necessary for his baby.

But the longer he sat there, the more impossible it felt to even push himself up, much less get out of their home or navigate the building. Near felt alone. Alone and utterly helpless, and the one person who was supposed to be beside him, helping him, was caught too far in his own dreams… Just like always… So far in his own idealizations that he was blind to reality.

Another contraction jolted painfully through Near’s bod and he cried out, louder, pained. He tried to force his already doubled over body further down, as though it would ease the intensity… He’d never be able to make it upstairs in his state.

That fact made panic immediately settle over his being, though not for himself, but rather for his unborn child. “Mello.” He called, eyes screwing shut, his chest becoming tight.

He received only silence as his answer.

“Mello!” He gasped louder, the name a desperate plea. He couldn’t do this… He couldn’t. He should have never let himself rely on anyone else!

“Mello!” He couldn’t breathe… He-

“Shit.”

Mello stood in the doorway to the bathroom, his blue eyes flooded with a mixture of shock, worry, fear… Had Near ever seen the blonde appear so utterly lost on how to react? Still, with Mello there, his eyes burning into the younger successor’s being, Near felt utterly pitiful being seen in such a pained, desperate state.

“T-Time.”  Near forced out, wondering bitterly whether he was trying to relate that it was time for their baby to be born, or that it was about time Mello had heard his cries.

He shook the thought from his head, hissing through another contraction and clutching the material of the large white shirt he adorned. Each one was so intense… so quick. “Baby coming.” He said. “Can’t get downstairs. You’ll… have to cut it out.”

Mello blanched at the comment, yet it somehow seemed to restart his internal programs from their previously shocked state. “Like hell I’m cutting anything out of you.” He cleared the distance between them in a fraction of a second and scooped the detective up into his arms.

Near wanted to protest that he was too heavy to be carried… but the fear of not having Mello, of being alone again made him instead loop his arms around the other’s neck and clutch onto him. “Thought you wouldn’t wake up…” He tried to tell him as he was carried out of the bathroom and towards the front door “Thought that I’d… that the baby…” Although his logical mind filled in the gaps of what might have happened, he couldn’t bring himself to speak it to Mello. What would Near have done?

“You idiot.” Mello scolded, breaking into his thoughts. “Why didn’t you smack me? Hit me? Anything.” Near wanted to convey that he had tried shaking him, but the older successor continued, “You know how terrifying it is to wake up to your partner screaming for you?”

Had Near been screaming? How had he not realized…

“Probably as terrifying as being physically unable to get to the one place you need to be for your your survival… or realizing you don’t know what to do to fix it.”

Mello’s hold immediately tightened on him. “You idiot.” He repeated, seething. “I was right there. I told you that I’m going to help you through this. So stop trying to do everything on your fucking own.”

Near remained silent, trying to ruminate on Mello’s words instead of focusing on the pain of contractions. Perhaps Mello had a point… When things had started to go wrong he had immediately resorted to his old habit of self-sufficiency; of relying on his own abilities. But he couldn’t this time, and it had almost been to the detriment of both him and his child…

Even if Mello’s actions didn’t adhere to whatever plan Near had had for this labor process, Mello had still been there when he needed him the most. He’d risen to the occasion to make sure Near was taken care.

Near hissed as his muscles contracted again, but this time he found himself gripping Mello’s shirt tighter, burying his face against his chest. Pressed so close to the blonde, he could feel and hear his chest rumble as he spoke low, for only Near to hear, “Don’t worry, I’ve got you. Both of you are going to be okay. I’m not going to let you go through this alone.”

Near’s eyes closed, his body briefly relaxing as he replied. “I know. I believe you. I trust you.”

They’re freaking out over the pap pictures from yesterday, screaming about how he’s being forced to hold Mia’s hand and then how awkward it all is. But if you look at ALL the photos, not just the one they posted, they’re both smiling or laughing. Darren reaches back to grab Mia’s hand with a smile on his face. He’s completely at ease with her. The picture they keep using is one second of his life. He does look annoyed, but only when taken out of context to fit their narrative.

Their attacks of Darren and Mia together are always over-the-top and not credible but this particular one seems particarly desperate. Let’s look at the context-a year ago, the BoD decided that ccArmageddon would occur at the end of the 2019 awards season. Now here we are, it’s mid-February, 2019, award season has come and gone...and YES, Darren conquered, but Armageddon has yet to commence.... and there is no break up in sight. In fact, Darren and Mia are engaged, they have completed their American pre-wedding checklist:

bachelorette weekend - check 

bachelor party - check

Ceremony-  

and the ceremony is the only thing left to do. This is weighing heavily on their   ccMinds.  Whether they are admitting it out loud or not, they KNOW that this is looking bad and they are looking for a Hail Mary, a last minute jink to the left where Darren suddenly breaks up with Mia. I have no doubt they really do BELIEVE that a break up is still a very real possibility but  they also KNOW that Darren and Chris are deeply supportive of one another and have been happily married since 2012 soooo... Their belief isn’t based on physical data, “listening” to what Chris and Darren are telling us on social media so when a handful of pics come out that show a happy Darren and Mia walking down a random street, the CCers get to work. They spend hours over-analyzing every little thing on those photos, desperately looking for SOMETHING... ANYTHING that will give them the ‘proof’ they need to rewrite Darren’s story. They need to either debunk Darren and Mia as a couple on the precipice of a wedding OR prove that Armageddon is about to commence. Like all CC analysis, it all starts at CC Confirmed and works backwards and there are two basic premises that are always in play: 

ALL paparazzi pics are prearranged by the team  

There are NO coincidences  

These 2 foundational beliefs allow them to claim that Darren and Mia KNEW they were going to be photographed therefore they dressed WITH the intention of being photographed and to speak to the CC family and their behavior is a PR  stunt.

I see an engaged couple walking down the street holding hands and smiling. Why? I don’t know. Photos don’t come with a backstory. They are just a moment in time capture.  There is a small blurb on JustJared which says: 

Earlier in the day, Darren and fiancee Mia Swier were spotted holding hands as they stopped by a friend’s house for a party

We don’t know if the cameraman asked them where they were going or if it was just a guess. It seems probable that they asked because most of the time JustJared always claims he is going to the for a run or for a meal. Going  to a friends for a party seems too specific  ..but who knows?   

Let’s look at what the CCers said about the same photos: 

...If you surprised them how do you know they were going to a friend’s house for a party? It’s probable that they told the cameraman.  Telling the cameraman “were’ going to a party at a friend’s house” isn’t exactly spilling their life secrets. Celebs often play a give-and-take game with paparazzi to keep them from constantly stalking them.  

It looked like he dropped her hand as soon as humanly possible. I may have actually laughed out loud. Being that it isn’t video, I am fascinated about how she knows this? Also, in which picture did he “drop her hand”? Here is where the desperation starts to leach in. Can you smell it? 

There was too much commentary on the other recent pap pics being of him without her, so they had to fix this - and it’s hilarious in so many ways. How “odd” that a pap was right there when they both went to the party of a friend! As if the pap knew they would be there. Oh, wait… Right. The CCers always spend their time laughing when they find demonstrable proof that Darren and Mia are in fact a couple. Such an odd reaction. It almost feels like they have the exact opposite reaction and only claim they “laughed so hard”  to cover for their real anger. This is also a we-are-so-important-Ricky-read-our-comments-and-tried-to-correct-the-behavior-we-called-out trope.  

Those pre Grammy pap pics are too funny. Clearly painfully posed (the one looking to the right is painful). They appear to be unable to hold hands properly and normally after 1264321 years together and D’s t-shirt has Daisy Duck on it again. Again, it’s “too funny”.  I don’t actually know how one “holds hands properly” or rather how one does it improperly as this suggest. I am also not sure this is a skill that one needs to practice for any amount of time let alone, 1264321 years in order to master. The old, tired smoke-signals-via-t-shirt -graphic trope. Of course “come inside me” is DISGUSTING but Daisy Duck saying “Me when I fuck your man” is perfectly logical thing and something Darren would say... to whom exactly? Or is he wearing it because Chris once “like” an Instagram with Daisy Duck? 

And M as usual unable to avoid looking directly into the camera for her moment. Ugh, looking at a camera is not illegal nor immoral. It’s common 

It’s not just about whether or not they are holding hands. Yes, plenty of couples don’t hold hands in public. It’s about the fact that as ajw pointed out it’s a staged pap pic. It’s set up to try and sell the relationship. And D is doing everything NOT to sell it - from doing the bare minimum to hold her hand, looking like he dropped her hand as soon as he could, and never even looking at her. Not to mention she looks at the camera. Now that D swept award season I expect there will be many more of these staged pap pics to put the focus on more of the GA seeing this “relationship”. Let’s be clear- this is a 3 -frame photoshoot, it likely occurred over a few seconds of their lives. Trying to sell the idea that they aren’t holding their hands lovingly enough or with enough realism to satisfying the CCes is asinine.  Darren isn’t selling it because Darren ISN’T SELLING IT...he’s walking down the street and a cameraman jumped into his path. He’s tolerating it because he knows he has too sometimes.  This isn’t a video..there is no way to know if he dropped her hand as soon as the could...that is merely the author’s wishful thinking as the wedding weighs on their heads. 

Means nothing. It still fake. They are staged pap pics. Paps are called by teams. They knew it would happen in advance. It’s all just promo. Papers ARE NOT called by teams. That isn’t a thing that Darren’s team is doing and it isn’t something that is done by managers as a punishment to their celebrities.  

Interesting to me he’s holding her left hand……. This one made ME Burst  Out Laughing. What is interesting about holding her left hand? It would have been awkward AF is he was on her left side and he held her right hand.

...I laugh every time i see them walking.  LA is all about driving.  It is not NYC and people are not randomly on the street. Yet D&M walk everywhere despite them both having cars!!! This is the second most ridiculous comment in this thread. They aren’t walking on an expressway. This is 3 frames taken within moments on one another. They could be walking to a neighbor’s house  or they could be walking from where they parked their car. LA is a car city compared to NYC for sure. But there is no car that I know of that drops one off LITERALLY at the front door and only Donald Trump drives across the street. 

Yeah, honestly, has anyone BEEN to LA? No one walks that much unless it’s for exercise, sight-seeing or shopping. People don’t just walk to brunch or parties. LOL

A friend pointed this out. Look pap pics that are an ad!! This time for her show in March. When is she forced to fly on her own? What more can he possibly owe her? OMG 3rd LOL.  PR for her own show!  I a, not sure if this is Guns N Hoses or Guns N Roses but either way....only a stalkier can read this and associated it with her band...and you would have to know there is a show already to read this as PR. Unless they are claiming this is subliminal advertising vis paparazzi.  

Every time they try and sell them as a couple it get’s more awkward and creates more doubt. Only among those of you who are TRYING really hard to disprove what Darren says about his relationship. 

I get to the point where I think RR should promote them as a couple for anything fake/false/cheap/tacky because every step his team take make her look more desperate and fake and D less authentic. You must realize that when you make these comments, You ARE Speaking ABOUT Darren....about Darren’s choices as a person with his own agency.

Anon: "Ladies and gentlemen, I am here to announce my purpose for joining this occult!"

He leans down to inspect the pages, then opens the large book to the page he was looking for, a large slam echoed the rooms. In it lies a cell phone, and he pulls it out.

Anon: "Now, as I load my information, allow me to give some context. Most of you are aware of a popular video website called 'YouTube', correct?"

Lucifer: "You mean that stupid website that forbids copyrighted material and is full of pampering, self-absorbed morons?"

Anon: "Yes, exactly! And don't forget about ad revenue!"

His YouTube app has loaded, and he begins to search, both for his content, and in his notebook.

Anon: "Now then, I have four specific specimens who I believe deserve a bit of a punishment..."

Lucifer: "Ooh, what kind of punishment?"

Leader: "Have patience, Lucifer. We cannot have anything done if we rush into it..."

Anon: "Ah, here we are!"

Anon flips over several pages and reveals a large list of names.

Anon: "For 7 years, I've putting all of my time into this YouTube matter, finding out who and what is popular during different eras, and today, I have found the perfect victims. Now, if you look at this list, it reveals YouTubers that I wish to see be taken down by my command! Most of them are the gaming community, just a heads up."

The list was insanely long, and each of the names contained some sort of extra name beside it. From the looks of it, it seemed that Anon wanted to take these Tubers and...change their names? The first 4 caught everyone's eyes.

He pulls up a video of some brunette man wearing a blue hoodie, screaming like a girl at some stupid animatronic animal jumpscare.

Anon: "Now then, here's out first Tuber, Venturian, aka Jordan Frye, a American guy who is known for playing Gmod and has 2.43 million subscribers. Even though that's not a large number compared to other channels, it still eludes me how a man in his 20s spends his time playing stupid mods with his retarded siblings. Yes, this isn't a solo channel, he has 3 other siblings who are equally guilty of this cringeworthy dungheep."

Random Occult Member 4: "No wonder they only have less than 3 million subscribers..."

Anon: "However, there is something that caught my attention from them during my studies...on their Gmod murder series, Venturian has created an original character named 'Jimmy Casket', a crazed murderer who happens to have some sort of personality disorder. It's a long, boring story as to why that is, but the point is...whenever Jordan plays as Jimmy, it seems to be one of the few times he goes insane and turns into someone else...someone dangerous...someone...evil.."

Random Occult Member 2: "Interesting..."

Anon: "Now, onto our next Tuber..."

Not even 3 seconds into the next video, and several of the Tubers covered their ears in pain from obnoxious singing and shouting. Luckily, Anon came prepared as he grabbed powerful earmuffs during his searching.

Anon: "Is the ear bleeding done?"

Everyone: "TURN THAT SHIT OFF!"

Anon: "With pleasure..."

Anon took off his earmuffs and paused the video. From the screen, and the audio, this Tuber is European man with bright green hair and a VERY loud personality.

Anon: "Our next Tuber is JackSepticEye, aka Sean McLoughlin, an Irish gamer with 12.36 million subscribers. I have no idea how the hell he's able to scream and shout for more than 20 minutes without a sore throat, but that is a gift he should never have been born with. This man is irritating, and he seems to overreact to every little fucking thing he plays! And he's friends with an eyeball that's LITERALLY septic! He's FRIENDS with a toxic fucking eyeball!"

Random Occult Member 2: "Greaaaaat, as if this man wasn't unlikable enough, now he's a gross slob..."

Anon: "...Riiight...now then, despite his annoyance, he also has a darker side to him that, this time, was created by his fanbase. Since his YouTuber name implies that he's all septic, it only makes sense that his dark side implies that he's antiseptic, and it's quite an irony. Recently, some of Jack's videos are giving canon appearances of this alter ego, and it helps give one a glimpse of what his true design looks like..."

Lucifer: "Ooh, now THAT is something I would KILL to see!"

Anon: "...Okaaaaay then...Next up is the pure definition of a manchild. Do not be fooled from his appearance."

The next Tuber who was on screen was an Asian-looking guy with an extremely American accent, red dyed hair, square glasses, and a skin tight shirt, playing some horror game about a rabbit.

Anon: "This here is Markiplier, aka Mark Fischbach, and this is another American Tuber here, with 14.55 million subscribers."

Random Occult Member 3: "Ooh, this guy has quite the bod..."

Anon: "Hey, remember what I said earlier? This person may look handsome on the outside, but inside, he's a scaredy-cat and...a bit of a crybaby...He's also really stupid."

Anon fast-forwarded the video, and the man screamed loudly and flew backwards in his seat, with his jaw dropped to the floor.

Anon: "See what I mean? Oh, and this guy seems to have a weird thing for boxes, considering he's friends with one."

Anon then clicks on another video with the man playing with some sort of small box creature with a big baby face and cartoony hands, and they're making stupid noises and faces.

Lucifer: "How in the hell did he even-?"

Anon: "It's best not to ask right now. Besides, I didn't get to the real meat here. Mark is unique, because he has not one alter ego, but FOUR!"

All Members: "FOUR?!"

Anon went into his photo album and pulled up a collage for 4 characters that looked eerily similar to the manchild.

Anon: "You heard me right, 4 alternate egos! The main one, and the most iconic, is his dark side named...Darkiplier...I know, hilarious. This ego has an interesting history. He originally started off as Mark trying to be "scary" to his audience, and this soon turned to a whole new persona. The last time Dark was seen canonically on-screen was a video named "relax", but I've been hearing rumors about the new appearance of Dark; it consisted something of him being all black-and-white, in a formal suit, and 3D effects..."

Lucifer: "Wouldn't that be cool to see?"

Anon: "Ha, tell me about it. Now then, the next persona is known as 'Googleplier', and this one is pretty recent. From Matthias' video 'Google IRL', Googleplier is a real-life Google machine who can answer any question, along with having an obsession with destroying mankind...to be honest, this one is my most favorite. Unfortunately, Googleplier has a retarded weakness against too many questions."

Nobody said a word, but they all seemed to have some sort of prediction that Anon is, in some way, similar to Googleplier's personality.

Anon: "Third one has a bit of 'style', if style meant a weeb who wants to kill everyone for their lover. This is 'Yandereplier', but I'm calling him Yandere Mark for short. For those who don't speak weeb, a yandere is a character in anime who acts nice but kills peers behind their love interest's back. Yandere Mark actually started once Mark started playing an indie game called 'Yandere Simulator'. Basically, the game is shit, and the developer seems like an asshole. But this persona has definitely intrigued me. To have a fake persona to hide your true identity from the one you love? Seems like the perfect ego to hide crimes."

From the weird smile/grimace on Anon's face, the group was wondering if Anon has dealt with a "yandere" before.

Anon: "Last persona is a lesser known one, but holds great promise. Meet Authorplier! Honestly, he doesn't have an official name besides 'The Author', but I'll be calling him Author Mark for now. This persona was created back in 2013 in a mini-series called 'Danger in Fiction'. Honestly, most of the videos consist of stupid, immature potty humor, but the parts that I find to be BRILLIANT is the character's appearance and his power to write stories to torture his victims. See, with Author Mark, he has a special book that plans out the victim's fate, and he wants the victim to follow it, or else he'll end them faster with his bat."

Lucifer: "Now THAT one is my favorite!"

Anon: "And FINALLY, the last YouTuber on this list is..."

Anon quickly went back to his YouTube app and typed away, and everyone was anticipating for who was the last Tuber.

Anon: "PewDiePie, aka Felix Kjellberg! Not only is this guy the biggest gaming YouTuber, he is the biggest YouTuber of all time, having 48.17 MILLION subscribers!"

Random Occult Member 1: "48 million?!"

Random Occult Member 2: "He could have his own country with this many people!"

Lucifer: "This guy must be rich for playing games all day!"

Anon: "HOWEVER! I must point out that Felix does not play as many games as he used to in his hay day. Still though, he is no exception...the fact that this annoying Swedish man can entertain or cause controversy for stupid games or unlogical statements is beyond me. If there's one thing I cannot stand about him, it's his enormous ego, acting like he's a mighty god. He kind of reminds me another YouTuber, I think his name was Joke Pole, but he's not a gamer."

Random Occult Member 3: "What's Felix's alter ego?"

Anon: "Ooh, now this is a tricky one...see, Felix doesn't have an official persona like the others, especially since none of them have a canon appearance or voice. However, one I did choose is similar to Yandere Mark and Jimmy Casket, where this one is based off a game that Felix played named 'Lucius'. See, 'Lucius' was a game he played back in 2012, and it's about a boy with the powers of Satan; his main objective is to kill his family members without causing suspicion. For a while, people loved Felix playing as this demon-writhing kid, and he seemed to take on the personality quite well, although he had a strange obsession with a beach ball."

Leader: "I see..."

Anon: "And that's everything I wanted to say! I only have these personas, but these people have a SHIT ton of more personas than I could count, a lot of them were fucking stupid. I only chose the ones that caught my eye, which were coincidentally the popular ones."

Lucifer: "The power of shitty fanbases..."

Anon: "And this is only the start...once I make these personas a reality with a special recipe I have made, they will cause havoc, ruin the reputations of these YouTubers once and for all! These are only with 4, imagine what it would be like with every other YouTuber gamer, or YouTubers in general, big and small, destroying the platform and taking down Internet entertainment with it!"

Everyone gasped and stared in awe as Anon caught his breath from all his speaking.

Anon: "So...am I in?"

Emmy Blog 2k18: Monday’s Revenge

That's right it's that very special time! Except this time that very special time falls on a MONDAY AFTERNOON when I will be at my job working hard to craft non-Emmy nominated television for you all. I feel personally attacked by this scheduling.

Speaking of me, this is my second annual Emmy blog which means I have maintained this blog for over a year now! Yes that is correct I have actually shown commitment and follow-through on a project, I would like to thank the Academy.

Last year I was wildly unprepared for how long it would take to type such a blog so I'm not going to mess around with all the loving analysis of yesteryear. Also last year I simply had no idea how tired I would be this year, because I was too tired to imagine that far into the future. So you will get your analysis up front and then nothing but pure, unadulterated nominee sass.

As always we must mention last week’s Creative Arts Emmys-  Congratulations to the casting winners Nina Gold + Robert Sterne (The Crown), Meredith Tucker, Jeanie Bacharach and Cindy Tolan (The Marvelous Mrs Maisel) and Courtney Bright + Nicole Daniels (The Assassination of Gianni Versace). See these casting names, know them, learn them, love them. Also it's bullshit Megan was not given an Emmy For Megan #justiceformegan

 Last year I commented on how the Emmy's were beginning to reflect the increasing diversity in the television landscape. While progress on that front continues to be frustratingly slow, this year did boast a remarkable number of incredible roles for women! Not only are we seeing roles for women that extend beyond wives, mothers, and girlfriends, we are also seeing more series that STAR women! This year boasts some VERY EXCITING Best Actress categories, and I am HERE FOR IT. In contrast though most of the male categories are a total snooze fest, and the fact that AMC's The Terror wasn't nominated for ANYTHING shows that absolutely no one cracked the seal on their screeners.  With an increasingly populated television landscape, it seems like voters went to old favorites rather than branching out and discovering some new gems. On some level this is to be expected, but at that same time there is an increasing disparity between what is recognized at these kind of events, and what is airing. 

Okay on to the main event! Disclaimer: Once again these predictions are based on nothing but flights of fancy and raw gut instinct.

Henry Winkler was pitch perfect on Barry, Kenan Thompson has been on SNL for a million years, and Brian Tyree Henry's performance on Atlanta is deceivingly effortless. I think Shalhoub, the Academy will likely have missed voting for him, it just comes so naturally to them.

This is a tough one, there are a lot of golden oldies here. I was surprised by how much I loved Bill Hader’s performance in Barry, but I think it was too weird and too dark to garner the votes needed. Atlanta had a lot of momentum and buzz last year,  not sure if the Academy is going to pour the same love two years in a row. I’m going to go with Ted Danson, he’s impeccable on The Good Place and he’s also Ted Danson!

Unlike the Best Drama Series category, which I am going to drag through the dirt at the end of this post, there is a lot of goodness here. These shows are not only very different, but also compelling in their own ways. (Although The Good Place absolutely deserves to be here). While I fell in love with Barry this year, and think Atlanta has maintained a consistent brilliance for two seasons, I think the delightful confection that is Mrs Maisel has the awards momentum to take this category.

And just like that my Betty Gilpin high has dissipated. I can't believe Homeland is still on. Do we reward David Harbour for having the perfect dad bod, or Matt Smith for being the perfect fuckboy? Decisions, decisions. If Matt Smith wins he needs to break that trophy in half and give it to Claire Foy. He can keep the globey part, but she gets the body and the stand.

I had to consciously uncouple from The Handmaid’s Tale this year, but that doesn’t mean those actresses stopped being brilliant in their performances. Ann Dowd is a Laura Dern in the sense that I will usually always pick her in a category, but Thandie Newton did arguably carry season 2 of Westworld almost on her own. There are a lot of good unique performances here, but I am going to say Vanessa Kirby because she crushed on The Crown (and for the last time).

I love all these guys, but are they really turning in their best performances on these shows? Truly? The only exception is Matthew Rhys who is in his final year of a tour-de-force role on The Americans so my money is on him.

Now, this, THIS IS A CATEGORY. LOOK AT THESE WOMEN.  I love all of these actresses, and some of these performances are truly among the best I've ever seen on television. That is not a hyperbole, it is a true. I would be happy with almost anyone winning this slot, but I really feel like Sandra Oh is going to take it. I FEEL IT OKAY.

KILLING EVE IS THE BEST DRAMA SERIES OF THIS YEAR AND ITS EXCLUSION IS A HORRIBLE MISTAKE!!!!! Like IS Westworld REALLY the Best Drama Series??? IS IT? Is Game of Thrones??? Yes they are highly enjoyable and I watch them both, but are they THE BEST? REALLY? Was Stranger Things season 2 THE BEST, or are we just charmed by the children? Was The Handmaid’s season 2 THE BEST, or did we just vote for it out of habit and a misguided feeling that it’s win would stave off Kavanaugh’s confirmation? The Americans should win.

Thank you everyone for all the notes, follows and comments given on “Rejection” so far. This story has changed my life, improved my writing skills immensely, and made me countless new friends. So once again. with all my heart, I thank you all for your kind words/constructive criticism.

 Love y’all, and without further ado: let’s get on with the chapter.

It took about ten minutes just to get to through the horrible snow storm, and you cringed. Half of your time was sucked away, and it went by fast. Clutching the jacket closer to your body, you dipped your nose into the pink scarf around your neck and stepped into the mouth of the cave that made up Waterfall.

The humid air hit you like a slap across the face, and you were grateful for the drastic change in temperature. It wasn’t unbearably hot, but it wasn’t freezing either. There was a cool breeze pulsing from behind the huge walls of rushing water; you were glad that you didn’t have to take your coat off.

The ground below your feet changed from this black moss to slippery stone every now and then, which reminded you of a swamp. Birds chirped from all angles, and the calm beat of the rivers besides you felt very relaxing. The crystals above glowed like stars, and many of the plants turned out to be bio-luminescent. You already knew that, but actually being in the cave was so much more beautiful than seeing it on a screen.

Not that it wasn’t pretty on your laptop. It’s just like when you look at a picture of a tropical place and how you wished you were there; and when you finally get to said destination, it’s a lot to take in.

You glanced down at your phone, and scowled. Six more minutes. Gotta hurry. A text popped up onto your home panel, and you typed in your passcode to read it. Sans. Or, a.k.a, the “Pun-Master”.

“you need help yet, sweetheart?” He’d asked, and you rolled your eyes. “Nope. I’m almost there.” Hopefully that unnerved him, you thought, and smiled sinisterly. Another beep, and you looked down. “is that so? well, you’re down to 5 minutes. it sure would suck to run into some unfriendly monsters right about now.”

Feeling that he was implying something, you glanced up. Just as he predicted, a seahorse with huge muscles swam up to you along the shore. He had slicked-back black hair similar to Elvis, and a sick smirk coiled on his face. He flexed, and caught you staring. “Hey, babe. You like my sweet, hot bod? ;)” He cooed, and you stepped away carefully.

“Yeah, uh...it’s nice. Can I walk past you? I have somewhere to be in...a very short amount of time.” You asked politely, but the horse whinnied and continued to flirt. “Don't leave so soon, sugar plum. I just wanted compliment you on your fine outfit. My muscles would look so good next to them.” He bragged, and you groaned quietly. “Thank you, but I really don't-” Suddenly, the monster climbed atop the ground and hopped over to you.

He laid an arm around your shoulder, and took out his phone. It was covered in mist and was dripping wet. “Baby, mind if I take a selfie with you? It's not everyday I meet someone that makes me sweat. More than usual, anyways.” Grossed out, you blanched and hurriedly snapped the picture. Then you took off down the straightaway, looking for any signs of a sentry station.

But alas, another couple of monsters stopped you in your tracks. One was a duck with a bowl of water on his back called Woshua, and another was a tall stack of jello named Moldbygg. They got into their battle positions, but you knew you didn't have the time. Glaring down at your phone, the timer read “two minutes remaining”. Hurtling over the duck with a great deal of effort and dodging sharp bites from the taller, gelatin creature, you fled.

For a second, you had no idea where you were going. “one minute left.” Taunted Sans via text, and you panicked. Suddenly, in the distance, you saw a table with lots of baby blue echo flowers surrounding it. There sat the skeleton, staring down at his phone. Panting for a breath, your feet tore down the alley. You slipped on parts of the bridges which crossed over roaring streams, and had to duck from the occasional rock falling overhead.

Panicking like no tomorrow, you launched yourself at the wooden post. Sans whipped his skull to face you, and watched as you landed face first into the black moss beneath you. “-and without a second to spare.” He snickered, but your body just lay limp on the cool ground, heaving breaths. You raised a finger, telling him to give you a minute. When you’d finally regained your composure, you stood up and brushed off some of the dirt that had gotten on Papyrus’s leather jacket.

Flipping your tangled hair, you noticed how it had dried out completely throughout your little race. As nice as that was, you couldn't really enjoy it because your lungs were currently shriveled up prunes. “so… how was it?” He asked slyly, smirking at your exhaustion. “How was what?” You snapped, bent over, holding your gut. “the run.” You glared at him, but all he seemed was amused. “There were monsters who had to bother me and make me even more stressed out than the actual challenge should have been.”

Sans laughed, and you raised an eyebrow in suspicion. “You didn't have anything to do with that, did you?” He shrugged, and closed his eyes. “i may or may not have told a few pals about a new human coming to visit waterfall today.” You groaned, and propped your elbows up on the table by his slippers. “You asshole. That's cheating.” He chuckled, and wagged a finger playfully. “there were no rules about not sending fans as distractions.”

You flashed him a scowl, and then looked away. “Fans? Half of the monsters I ran into tried to attack me!” Sans said nothing, only yawned. Then, out of nowhere, he laughed loudly. You spun around to face him, and he was looking at his phone. A picture of two familiar people were on his screen, and you leaned over the counter to take a peek. It was none other than the seahorse and yourself in a selfie together.

“you look ridiculous.” “I was in a hurry, and the guy wouldn't leave me alone!” Sans hit the “like” button, making it . . the 73rd like?! You thought, surprised. “Jeez, he has quite the fanbase?” You asked, and Sans nodded. “with guns like those, how could he not?” Sans scrolled past a photo of the monster in the mirror holding up his camera to his muscular biceps, but did not tap the thumbs-up icon for it.

“What app is that?” You asked, and he turned the top of the page towards you. It read “Monstergram”, and you chuckled. It was basically the Underground’s version of Instagram. “You got an account?” He chortled, and went to his profile. “yeah, but i don't post stuff too often. that’s all alphys.” You took the device gently from his hands, and looked through some of the things he did reblog. They were mostly puns, with a selfie here and there and a snapshot of him and Papyrus.

“We should change that!” You cheered, and got the camera to work. “wait, what-?” He started, but you jumped around the side of station and wrapped an arm around his neck. Your fingers ran through the fur of his hoodie, and you silently admired the softness. “Say punny!” You smiled, speaking the magic words. Then you snapped the photo, and stood up straight. You looked over it, analyzing how it came out.

Your smile was nice and big, and your hair was on point. For once. The jacket on you looked great too; you switched your attention to Sans, and giggled when you saw the stupid expression he wore on his teeth. He appeared very confused, as his non existent eyebrow was lifted with a mix between amusement and bewilderment. A faint blue light shone on his cheeks, but you figured it was just the crystals above.

Handing him back his phone, he inspected the newly posted selfie. Likes and comments were already rolling in, and you pranced about giddily. “Ooo, what are people saying about it?” You asked, leaning up against one of the wooden poles attached to the station. He read a few aloud, and lazily tipped backwards in his chair. “‘who’s the girl?’ ‘you guys look nice!’ ‘saaaaans, i love you!’” You snort at the last one, knowing he made it up.

“That last one was fake.” You laughed, but Sans was totally serious. “nope. guess some chicks are just obsessed with me.” You rolled your eyes, and checked for yourself. It was really there, and you frowned. “Are you popular down here or somethin’?” He shrugged, and smiled. “i guess. got about… a thousand followers.” Your eyes widened, and you gasped. “What?! Dude, you're famous!” He looked at you incredulously, and shook his head.

“no i’m not. mettaton is.” You didn't believe him, for the most followers you ever got on your social media was merely mediocre. “How many followers does he have?” Sans said nothing for a moment, going to the celebrity’s page. “um… 10,768.” Your jaw dropped, but you had to remind yourself that the Underground was a small place considering the billions of humans in the real world. “Wow…” Sans chuckled, and continued to play around on his phone.

“what’s your username?” He asked, and you gave him a perplexed expression. “What?” He waved his device, and you got what he meant. “Oh! I don't have a Monstergram.” He actually seemed shocked; “why not? literally everyone has one.” You rolled your eyes, and crossed your arms. “You seem to forget that I just fell down here not more than a few days ago.” He relaxed, and grinned sheepishly. “huh, you're right. we should make yours right now. better late than never, right?”

You nodded, and he scoot over in his large chair. We shared the seat, half and half. You took out your phone, and downloaded the application. Then, you tapped on it and the sign-up screen appeared. “Alright, now what do I do?” Sans pointed to the top columns, and the whole thing was pretty self-explanatory. You wanted to use a generic username; deciding to just keep it simple, you went with your name and favorite number.

You came up with a password, and logged in. A couple of words congratulating you on your new membership popped up, and your blank profile stood behind it. “Okay, I'm in.” Sans grunted a sound of approval. “you can decorate it if you want. but if you really wanna know the basics, you have to make a profile picture.” You thought about taking a picture right then and there, but a better idea came to your mind.

“Mind if you tag me in that photo we just took?” He stared at you with a weird look on his face, and he tilt his head to the side. “why?” You blushed softly, and pushed up your glasses. “I dunno, I just thought that would be a good photo for my profile.” He understood, and grinned happily. “sure. gimme a sec.” And then, like that, a notification about the picture rang. You saved the photo to your library, and used it for your profile.

“There we go!” Sans chuckled, and grabbed your phone. “here, i’ll give you my name and send you a friend request. that way we can be pun buddies online too.” You laughed, and accepted the request. You even marked him down as your “Best Friend”. He saw that, but said nothing. “What’s Papyrus’s?” Sans input that into your device as well, and you sent out a request. He responded immediately, and took it. “Thanks, Sans. I guess I can look up Undyne and Alphys’ pages later.”

Sans wove a hand in the air, and stuffed his phone away into his pocket. You just realized what he was wearing; his normal blue jacket, but a different T-shirt and shorts. His shorts were in fact black cargo pants, and he wore a black shirt with the words “Bad to the Bone” written in bold. His slippers were the same, but you didn't care. “no problem.” He closed his eyes, and took in a deep breath.

You rest your head on your palm, and watched the waterfalls in front of you crash down with grace. A little yellow duck waddled by, and looked up at you. It was different from the monster before, as this one appeared completely normal. It continued its little stroll, and flew over the brightly colored water. “If you don't have to watch for humans anymore, what do you do here?” Sans opened an eye lazily, and sighed.

“nothin’ much. that's why i'm always going to grillby's to hang out, since it's usually pretty lonely here and i got nothin’ better to do. it's a job, and it pays the bills; but that doesn't mean it's very interesting.” You looked back out to the water, and fold your hands in your lap. “Is that why you wanted me to come with you today? Because you were bone-ly?” You thought he was going to give you a sweet, heartfelt answer, but he did not. “nah. it's just boring here.”

You rolled your eyes, and crossed your arms. “Oh.” Silence came over the both of you, but it wasn't exactly awkward. It was just… there. Sans stretched his upper body after a while, and yawned again. “okay, that's it. i can’t stand just sitting around while you're here.” You raised a brow, and eyed him cautiously. “Why not?” He left his spot on the chair, and walked out to face you in the front of the counter. “i invited you here so we could do something fun.” “I thought your definition of ‘fun’ was lying around doing nothing all day?”

He winked, and clicked his teeth. “only on tuesdays.” You didn't understand the joke, but got up from your seat anyways and followed him out from behind the station. “Well, what do you want to do?” He looked out into the distance, and rubbed a hand behind his smooth, ivory skull. “maybe take a walk down to temmie village. see what you think of it there.” You’d already seen all of Temmie Village before, but chose not to argue against Sans. “I'm down with that.” He smiled lazily, and started walking. “then we’re off.”

If you got the reference I’d made in title, please leave a comment because I would love to get in touch with someone I’m in sync with. Anyway, for those who did not get the reference, fret not, for I will explain. “Penelope” is one of the most magical films I’ve ever seen which has a very beautiful lesson about self-acceptance. A brief plot summary:

A modern day fairy-tale about a girl, Penelope Wilhern, born to an elite Blue Blood family must break a curse she inherited from her bloodline that gave her the face of a pig. In order to break this curse, she must be accepted by “one of her own kind, till death do them apart”. Brought up in captivity by an overbearing mother, she is trained to be a model bride and is set up with a marriage arrangement service, whereas all Penelope wants is to see the world and be free.

I remember the first time I ever watched the movie, when I was 12. Ever since, I’ve always wanted to watch it again but it was never shown on television again. Recently, I got hold of the movie and watched it to death for about 10 times. The soundtrack at the end is particularly charming, called “Hoppípolla” by Sigur Rós. If you do want to watch this movie, I’d suggest you do so before you read this post because I kind of spoil the ending (sorry, not sorry).

Anyway, coming back to the point of my post. The reference to Penelope was merely to elucidate the concept of self acceptance. In order to get rid of the curse, Penelope agrees to marry a blue blood, who is only marrying her to restore his public image on orders from his father, after publicly shaming Penelope, describing her as a monster with fangs. However, when the “I do” moment arrives, Penelope gives in to her doubts and says “No!” and runs away from the altar. Her mother, worried that the blue blood would leave, follows Penelope and pleads with her to get back and marry him when Penelope says the iconic words: “I don’t want to get rid of the curse; I like myself the way I am“. At that moment, she becomes the Blue Blood required to break the curse as she “is one of their kind who accepts her until death do them apart”, thus reverting her nose and ears back to that of a human.

Penelope taught me a very important lesson when she said the words: “I like myself the way I am”. We spend so much time and effort and money on things such as make-up, special diet, exercise equipment, gym membership, etc. We have a set image in our minds as to how we ought to look like. We have been conditioned by society to thinking that we are not “pretty enough”, or “handsome enough”, or “hot enough”, or “sexy enough”. Sometimes, things that are totally out of our control such as height, skin color, hair quality etc, are what makes us “not good enough” for the social idea of good looks. On the one hand, we reiterate “Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder”, whereas on the other hand, we squeeze ourselves into tight dresses and add an inch-thick layer of make-up, or we work out till our muscles become sore in order to have “abs” and “glutes” and whatnot. I’m not shaming those who like wearing make-up or wearing pretty dresses, or like working out in the gym in order to have a stunning body. I am in awe of said people because it takes a great deal of care and effort to maintain yourself. Watching every carb you eat, maintaining a diet diary and counting calories, spending hours in the gym and toning your muscles, grooming and trimming and waxing off hair apart from that on your head while spending a great deal of time in styling the hair that is on your head; all of these activities ought to be done by people voluntarily. These activities take up a lot of time and effort, both physical and mental/emotional, and are just means to an end some people wish to achieve. However, it is imprudent to assume that everybody ought to set their body image standards to such a high benchmark. Not everyone may have the sort of means, time, or energy in them to do these activities in order to be deemed “beautiful” or “hot” by a generic crowd of four people.

Now, I could go on and blame movies and media as a source of unrealistic body standards, which is true. However, I wish take another route. Media promotes many things – some are good (like philanthropy, animal and human rights, business sense etc) and some are not (violence, unrealistic body standards, sexual discrimination and overhyping many vices). What the media does is present to you, the viewer, as entertainment, a fictionalized version of reality. The very point of requiring entertainment is that reality is too boring at times. You wake up, get ready to go to office/school, spend a third of your day doing work (job or learning), come back home and retire for the rest of the day. A monotonous routine requires some catalyst – something that drives you to continue the monotony. Don’t get me wrong, monotony isn’t bad; monotony is what pays your bills. The catalyst is the entertainment in the form of movies, shows, social media, porn etc. Naturally, this entertainment you seek requires some pizzazz, an element of fantasy that elevated you from the mundane musings of your daily life. Media provides this for you. To do so, they need to create aspects of fantasy, so close to reality that it seems real enough, yet not too close to reality that it becomes “too real”. This fantasy world requires perfection; things people generally like: Pretty objects and pretty people leading pretty, yet relatable lives. Here comes the aspect of “unrealistic body standards”. In order to please the maximum number of people, you need a hook; something that makes people want to watch the movie or show, or read the article, or buy a product. This is where they usher in the pretty guns: skinny girls with surreal skin and dress size and impossibly straight hair, and men that exude masculinity with their rock hard pecs and ice-cube tray abs and albeit not mentioned, clear perfect fair skin with perfectly groomed hair and smooth airbrushed body parts. These people are simply doing their job – to create a fantasy world for you, the average looking, average bodied mass public. Some of these people are genetically gifted while others put themselves through a certain hell to look “bangable”. But that’s all they are; people like you and me, doing their jobs like you and me, to pay their bills like you and me. The problem arises when people start setting goals based on those pretty guns hired to spruce up the fantasy world. You are a person with a full-time job. How can you possibly imagine trying to put in the effort those pretty guns do (for their own full-time job), apart from the effort you put into your own job? Know the line between fantasy and reality, and you will realise the truth – bringing your lofty standards back from fantasy to reality will save you a lot of effort and bring you true happiness.

That said, one of the major reasons people indulge in lofty and unrealistic standards of appearance is less voluntary than one might think. As a species, we are genetically predisposed to “being the perfect mate” for our fellow sapiens. Therefore, even though we may not internalize or believe in those standards set by the fantasy, we put ourselves through certain hell to satisfy someone else’s fantasies, thus securing a mate (from an evolutionary standpoint). This is perfectly normal, but that doesn’t make it right. One of the hardest things I have had to do was to give up the idea of finding “the one” and seeming normal by having a romantic partner. When I did, it was like a weight was lifted. Suddenly, the extra insulation around my stomach and my comparatively larger ass was no longer an issue to me because I stopped fretting over whether I would be checked out by someone or be found attractive. Then came the thought – should I care about my looks, if not for a generic person to be attracted by me, then at least for my satisfaction? Cue: Penelope. I am not unhealthy (by God’s Grace). I am only slightly unattractive to look at. Once you get to know me, I happen to be a very nice person. This means that whatever differences exist between my body and my mental image of what ought to be, is only because of the unrealistic standards I’ve set for myself owing to my misinterpretation of media’s objective and other factors that have little relevance in my life. This means, it’s merely a question of self-acceptance. “I like myself the way I am”. I’m curvy and I love it. My skin is not soft, but I love it anyway. My hair is not straight or easily styled, but I love it anyway. 30 years from now, my skin will be wrinkly, and my hair will be gray/non-existent. I may have a “dad bod” and things may sag. In spite of all that, I love myself. To quote @thegoodadvicecupcake “Look into the mirror and tell yourself: I am f*cking hot”.

It would be foolish of me to say that stop hoping for romance and hot sex, because it is something we are conditioned to want. When I have a weak moment regarding the acquisition of a means to satisfy my love/lust, I run this particular movie scene through my mind:

This gives me hope to wait for someone who would “like me just as I am“. If I’m not good enough for you, tough. This may seem a bit like pushing the “love yourself first” propaganda. But you know what? Try it. You’ll realise that all this while you have been missing out on a lot of happiness and contentment you could have had, had you just thought deeply about what you truly want. I did, and believe me – my bathroom scales might tell me I haven’t lost any weight, but my mind is certainly lighter.

On that note, I leave you with one last advice – Love yourself, and happiness will follow. Happiness may not look like what you imagine right now, but when happiness does come into your life, the difference won’t matter.

Interview Confession

I sip at my coffee, sitting at the kitchen table looking at my adoring boyfriend standing in front of the stove whipping up breakfast for the two of us. I smile to myself as I watch Richard, my mind wandering back to the duration of our relationship thus far.

We met on the set of Game of Thrones, I had been visiting a friend of mine who works on the show. I had been walking around a bit until I bumped into someone, that someone being Richard. I remember that he was wearing his costume and I couldn’t help but giggle at the sight. We immediately hit it off and now here we are. Four years later, living together, and still madly in love.

“Y/N, Earth to Y/N,” Richard calls pulling me out of the memory I was reliving in my mind. “Where was your mind off too?” He questions with a laugh.

“I was thinking of a time when I bumped into someone with a fur cloak on,” I tell him with a giggle.

“You aren’t cheating on me with this mystery man are you?” He jokingly asks with a raised brow.

I shake my head ‘no’ as he walks over to me. I turn in my seat looking at him with a smile, his hands going to my cheeks. With a smile he leans down pressing his lips on mine. I smile into the kiss, loving moments like these.

“When do you have leave?” I ask him as our lips part.

“In less than an hour,” he replies with a sigh, taking a step from me and walking back over to the stove to serve our food.

“I wish I could go with you,” I mumble to myself.

Richard is going off to an interview for a new movie he’s working on and I can't go with him. Our relationship isn’t ‘public.’ Only our family and friends know that we’re together and have been for so long. We’ve lived like this because ultimately we want to keep our private life private.

We eat our breakfast sitting across from one another. We talk about what’s going to be going on in each other’s days and Richard ended up telling me some story that Kit had told him the other day. I can’t help feel a bit sad, so to say. In reality the not being public thing doesn’t bug me anymore, it’s been four years after all, it’s just that I don’t really get to go with him to red carpet events or tag along for promotional events.

“I better get going love,” Richard says to me looking down at his watch.

“Okay, what time is your interview going to be on?” I question as he stands up from his seat, taking his dishes to the sink.

“5, you don’t have to watch if you don’t want to,” he tells me as he looks at me with a serious expression.

“I’m going to watch no matter what,” I say with a giggle.

“Suit yourself,” Richard replies with a smirk. “I'll see you tonight.”

“Okay, I love you,” I tell him looking up at his tall figure in front of me.

“I love you too.” Richard leans down kissing my lips sweetly before leaving the apartment.

I spend my day cleaning and running errands, along with catching up on some reading for school. I look down at the gold watch resting on my wrist, it’s a quarter to 5. I smile to myself feeling like a proud parent.

I sit down on the maroon colored couch placed in the middle of the front room of the apartment. I turn on the tv searching for the correct channel. Resting my feet on the edge of the coffee table trying to get comfortable.

A posh looking man comes onto the screen giving a quick run down of all the topics they’ll be talking about during the duration of the program. The show it’s self is kind of boring, if it wasn’t for Richard I would probably never watch this show willingly… it’s that bad.

After a jump cut a brunette woman sitting in a director’s chair, a pair of sleek glasses resting on the bridge of her nose. Richard is sitting across from her in a similar chair wearing a pair of dark washed jeans and a white t-shirt.

‘Thank you for being here today, Richard,’ the woman says to him accompanied by a polite smile.

‘Thank you for having me,’ he replies with a smile.

‘You have grown a massive fan base after being on Game of Thrones, mainly females,’ she begins, ‘A lot of your fans have been posting all over social media about how their dying to know whether or not you’re are single. So, I have to ask, are you currently seeing someone?’

‘Well, I suppose it’s about time I actually answer this question,’ Richard says with a chuckle. ‘I am seeing someone, I have been for four years now.’

‘Wow! How did you two meet?’

‘We actually met on the set of Game of Thrones. We literally bumped into each other, she laughed at me when she saw my costume that I was wearing,’ he replies with a blush accompanying his words.

‘I know we’re suppose to be talking about you’re latest project, but I have so many questions about you’re girlfriends all of sudden. Is it okay if I ask just one more question about her?’

‘Sure.’

‘What is she like, what’s her personality like that is?’

‘Well, Y/N is very caring and loving; she’s involved with a lot of charity work. She is just generally really down to Earth, you know? She is always there for people and can always make you laugh. Y/N is a wonderful woman, I can’t help but love her. She’s always been supportive of me and my work, cheering me on,” he states with a smile and bright red cheeks as he speaks about me with admiration.

“She sounds lovely,’ the woman says to Richard.

I sit there with my mouth open in shock. I can’t believe what just happened. I guess our relationship is public now, I honestly had no clue that he was going to do this. Even though this is what I have been secretly wishing for I can’t help but suddenly feel overwhelmed by it. Will his fans like me? Will they be supportive?

I zone out looking at the television screen, my mind raising. I really can’t believe that he did that. I feel anxious about what will happen now. I don’t want things to change between us just because we’re now open about our relationship with the public, well because he’s open about our relationship.

Time seems to slip by as my mind circles over the same thoughts. The front door opens, Richard walking in with a smile on his face. I look over to him noticing how his demeanor has changed from how he was earlier today. He walks across the room toward me, then sits down next to me on the couch facing his body toward me.

“Did you watch the interview?” He questions with a smile.

“Yeah I did,” I reply with a blush on my cheeks.

“I’m sorry that I didn’t tell you about me doing that before hand, I just thought that it was long overdue to go public.”

“I’m glad you did it, I’m just a little worried is all,” I tell him truthfully.

“Love, nothing is going to change between us. I will always love you and my ‘fans’ wont change that.” he tells me with reassurance.

“I love you so much,” I state to him.

“I love you too, Y/N,” he replies. “Well, shall we post a picture of us on Instagram?”

“Yeah okay, but which one?”

“Um, how about,” he begins, scrolling through the pictures on his phone, “ this one.”

I look at his phone to see a picture that we had taken while at a wedding we went to a few months back. We are standing next to each other in the picture, Richards arm wrapped around my waist, my hand lightly resting on his chest. I’m wearing a baby blue tea length dress with nude heals while Richard is wearing a suit with a matching colored tie.

“I love this one,” I boast with a smile. “Let’s post that one.”

“Alright! Let’s both post it, yeah?” I nod in response, pulling out my own phone preparing to post the picture.

Our captions are really cute and true. Mine reads, ‘I am so thankful to have this man in my life! We have been dating for four years now and I am so happy to be able to now have our relationship public. I love you maddenrichard!’ Richard’s on the other hand says, ‘This beautiful woman has been by my side for four years, making everyday we’re together an adventure. I’m sorry that we have kept our relationship a secret for so long but I am happy to now have everything out in the open. Y/N is the love of my life and I hope that you all will be supportive and happy for us.’

We both press ‘post’ at the same time and immediately the notification start flying in. I look over some of the comments on my post, that are accumulating at a rapid pace. Most people seem to be happy for us, commenting how good we look and how happy we look. I rest my phone on the coffee table then turn my attention to Richard.

“Does this mean I can start going with you to events and everything?” I question, tilting my head to the side as I look at him with a smile on my lips.

“Of course! I’ll never go to an event alone ever again, you will always be at my side,” Richards reassures me.

I wrap my arms around Richard’s neck looking at him with adoration. I begin to lean in with him following my lead. Our lips meet half way, pressing on each other in a sweet kiss. Richard’s arms wrap around my waist bringing me closer to him despite our seated position. Love fuels the kiss, making it feel much different from any other kiss shared with one another. Maybe it’s because of this new chapter we're starting with one another or maybe it’s just because we are both so excited and happy about what the future holds.

“Gosh I love you, I don’t know what I’d do with out you,” Richard whispers as he breaks the kiss, resting his forehead against my own.

“I love you too,” I reply to him.

“Everything will be okay, I’m just glad that we can know live without any hiding or sneaking around.”

“I don’t know, the sneaking around was always kind of exciting,” I joke.

“Yeah okay, I’m not going to believe that,” he says with a laugh, pulling away from me a bit to get a better look at me. “This new chapter will be great.”

“I know it will be, as long as I’m with you.”

“Let’s go out and get dinner, without the sunglasses and baseball hats,” he requests with a laugh.

“I’d like that.”

Richard removes his hands from my body, standing up from the couch. He stands before me with an out stretched hand for me to take. I smile looking up at him through my lashes as I take his hand. He pulls me up off the couch, pulling me into his body, wrapping his arms tightly around my waist. Without any warning his lips are on mine again, my arms automatically going to his upper body.

I know that everything will be good now. No more hiding, no more sneaking around, no more disguises. We can now go out on dates freely without any advanced plans. We can show our love in public without the fear of getting seen by someone. Even though our routine will change a bit I know that nothing will change between the two of us. No matter what anyone says, whether it be the fans or the papers, we will always love one another.

Coffee with Nixon Brooks

It was a stormy April morning in Nashville. When I arrived at the local coffee shop Nixon Brooks had suggested, I hadn’t expected him to already be there. Usually I got to sniff around a little, eat a pumpkin muffin of sorts, but not today. I appreciated his punctuality. More than that, I appreciated his generosity. A hot chai tea latte and pumpkin muffin later, he was sitting in front of me, a strong black liquid filling his cup. He slid his black ankle boots under the table, his black skinny jeans complimenting his black (almost eggplant) floral shirt well. He looked causally stylish, and I immediately envied how carefree he seemed. I couldn’t wait to dig in. T: It’s not often I am beaten by my talent. Are you always the first one to arrive? N: If there’s coffee involved, absolutely. *laughs* I’m perpetually early— if it’s possible. T: There’s nothing in your coffee, is there? N: Nope. Black coffee is all I drink. It’s healthy and does the job. T: Speaking of healthy, you are well known for taking exceptional care of yourself. What inspires you to be active beyond your stage exercise? What motivates you to eat well? I know you have to be surrounded by so much good food from so many areas of the world. N: Especially now that I’m married to a travel blogger! She knows all the good food places. If I’m not careful, I’ll end up with a dad bod. *laugh* Honestly, being on stage is another level of activity. I feel like you have to be in shape to give your all to the show. T: So you do it all for the stage and the performance? N: I like feeling good. And the exercising has tremendous mental health benefits. T: That makes sense. I admire someone who can go after it the way you can. It’s inspirational really. There was this challenge going around for a while. Did you see it? “Can you complete Nixon Brooks’ workout?” N: My tour manager told me about it, actually. I was impressed that I inspired others. I just hope they stretched and did proper warm ups so they didn’t hurt or injure themselves. T: I, for one, didn’t do any warmups. So much regret. *laughs* I know you recently got married. Congratulations. How are you adjusting to married life? Was it what you expected it to be like? N: Maybe I should have my trainer buddy put out a warm up video! *laughs* Thank you! Ya know, I’m adjusting well. I love being married. It’s really everything I thought it’d be. I hope my wife feels the same way. *laugh* T: I did a little research on your wife as well. Do you mind if we talk about her for a moment? N: I don’t mind. I hope she doesn’t either. (Harper, when you hear about this or see this, I want you to know Nixon made the greatest face after saying this.) T: *laughs* That’s sweet. I was on her blog for a while, and I noticed she had moved on from her travel blogging status and has taken on more of a lifestyle blog title. Was that always in the plans or was this something she did to adjust to your joint environment as a couple? N: My wife has sacrificed a lot for me, even though she’ll deny that comment. *laughs* That was her strategy when we decided she would go on tour with me. She seems to enjoy it just as much as travel blogging. Or at least, that’s what she tells me. T: I love how supportive you two are of each other. It appears very mutual. You’re just radiating now. N: Yeah, I’m crazy for her. I know it’ll sound cliche,  but it was love at first sight for me. T:  It’s definitely believable given your lack of a track record prior to her. I noticed she was posting quite a few family inspired topics. Can we see little ones in your near future? N: We’ve been talking about starting a family even before we were married, so I would say there will definitely be little Brooks children running around my shows in the not so far off future. And that’s saying I’ll be as blessed as I am now to keep making music that people love. T: People are ready for your next everything. Anything you’ll give them, they’ll take. You’re so giving to them, too. I noticed it really helps with the strength of trust in your army of fans. You have a new album being released in the Summer, and you’ve got your world tour starting in the Fall. What are you most excited for this year? N: It’s definitely difficult to pick what I’m most excited for. The new album is exciting in a different way then performing. I’d say I’m equally stoked for both! T: Are your fans going to be surprised by the new album? How is it different from the last three you have done? N: I think they’re gonna be a little surprised. There’s a little bit of everything on there. I experimented with a little more pop this album then previously. A lot of my music before has been heavily guitar driven. And it still is, just I’ve got a couple of songs people might be inclined to dance to now. T: Oh, I love that! Does that mean we will see you dancing on stage without your guitar? N: I don’t know if anyone wants to see that! T: Trust me, we do! *laughs* What else do you want your fans to know about this chapter in your life? Anything you want to share with them today? N: Just that I love them all so, so much, and I’m so pumped to share this live experience with them! I hope they enjoy this next era. T: How lovely. Thank you for letting me interrupt your morning. Ghostwrite or Ghost wrong? Is Ghostwriting Ethical?

Sometimes, when I'm chatting with a new friend somewhere, he'll tell me what he does to earn a crust, usually the sensible stuff, banking, broking, baking or building. And then I tell him I'm a Ghostwriter and it usually needs a bit more of an explanation. Once he understands the general idea, the first question is always the same: "What, so you write it and they say they wrote it?"

Even when I tell him I get paid to do just that, he looks at me like I've just kicked his cat, face all scrunched up, confusion and intrigue. How can I do that? More importantly, how can the supposed Author do that? How can they say they wrote a book or an article when they didn't? Isn't that like sticking jobs on your resume you never had?

In fact for years now, certainly since I started doing this, there's been a fair bit of controversy all over the web about the topic of ghostwritten blog posts. Most of the articles on the subject are mild-mannered discussions about it, but why do so many people get so angry? 

And they've been angry at me as well. One told me it's like human trafficking. I've been brought from some horror show of a place to Europe only to be exploited, my dignity locked up in a draw. One said the supposed Author is plagiarising me. Another said I was the plagiariser!

Whether or not one understands the definition of plagiarism. Whether or not it's face to face over a small beer somewhere after a day in the fields or on the internet discussion groups, the same buzzwords keep cropping up: Ethics, transparency, integrity, disclosure.

After a while, believing feverish logic was firmly on my side in the main, I need to generate a response that could educate and appease at the same time, perhaps even extract a eureka exhale, a look to the skies toward clarity. Understanding. Acceptance. 

I'd mention that what they're having a problem with here is something that's been all around them all their lives and well before they were born. It's a fundamental part of business, delegation.

We know the President doesn't write his own speeches right? Sure, he wants to get his message across but he doesn’t write it. It's ghostwritten. Of course, it's ghostwritten. We understand the word ‘speechwriter’ and we get that but call it ghostwriting and it's a different kettle of fish.

And do they really expect a bit CEO to personally chip in with 500 words for the newsletter? 

When a footballer decides to tell the world all about his life and career, he hires someone to write his autobiography. They are his memories and feelings and his family stories but a professional writer has pulled it all together for him into something that is... you guessed it... marketable. 

Because ignore all you want, forget all you need, the bottom line is marketability. That footballer isn't writing a book for posterity, so his grandkids can say "grandad did that". Like pretty much everything else, it's about expanding his brand and making money.

I'd remind the doubters that every aspect of a successful business crosses over into things they really shouldn't know anything about. It's perfectly logical for a former pop star to develop clothing or perfume brands. You can see that. Is she expected to make her own shoes?  

Paul Newman was an actor, a great actor, but what does he know about spaghetti sauce? Sure, he probably didn’t mind a decent spag bol on occasion but was he a chef before he became an actor?  At least we knew Harrison Ford was a carpenter before we saw him on our screens. Fine, so Harrison Ford is perfectly entitled to go out back and build a shed and then sell that shed if he wants.

Come on people, say it after me: Brand Loyalty. 

Paul Newman spaghetti sauces rely on brand loyalty. They're also some pretty tasty sauces but brand is everything. Of course, if a marketing bod tells you to expand into other things and shows you the money, why not?

We know all this. We've always known this, maybe just never given it this much thought. It's always been happening and we've always been comfortable with it. 

Incidentally, George Lucas didn’t hire Harrison Ford to play Han Solo after excessive rounds of auditioning and callbacks, haggling and pleading. No. George Lucas met Harrison Ford while Ford was installing a wooden door at Francis Ford Coppola’s house.

So, the logic of it, the fact its been happening under different names for as long as humans have been writing things, the logic is there for all to see.

But this is an ethical issue.

There was a thread of discussion about social media that understood all of the above but felt on social media platforms, surely it’s all about connection on a personal level. The idea that someone is connecting and sharing with someone isn't actually the person you thought it was would make you angry.

OK, first of all, you might end up seeing the occasional or not so occasional advertisement, sponsorship or other blurb to sell you stuff. Facebook pages, sponsored tweets, it’s endless. It's marketing. Conveying messages to a customer using the basis of good solid copywriting.

For over a century, when marketing managers decided to launch a new advertising campaign, who do they call?

Copywriters have never signed their names to the bottom of their ads. They get paid money to do it. 

Because in life, if we have a budget, we hire people who know the industry and do it better than we can.

But advertising on social media isn’t what they’re saying. They’re saying that on a personal level, false representation makes us feel dirty. Duped on a deeply personal level. The ethics issue is still valid. 

Let's dig into that a bit. The ghostwritten content that we see isn't Tammy next door telling you about her day. Tammy hasn't engaged George to get it all across to the rest of us because Tammy’s got stuff to do. That's where the personal relationship is paramount. When you and Tammy go down to the river and throw stones, Tammy can recount her day exactly as she wrote it. 

No. The ghostwritten material we read on social media is selling us stuff, plain and simple. It’s no more or no less valid than seeing a billboard with the CEO of a pharmaceutical firm saying “I’m your friend.” 

At a point that little Tammy does start getting George to organise her social media content and tell her friends it’s her, then that’s a matter for friendship not the channel of its conveying. 

So what I think people are actually saying when they rile against the concept of ghostwriting is they’re riling against the concept of capitalism. 

Deep down, or even closer to the surface, they know full well this has all been going on forever. And we all know we're slaves to it. That’s the irksome part. We buy into it even if we know Paul Newman didn’t actually make that sauce. And that's what makes us angry too.

Ghostwriting just seems a soft target to vent frustration. 

As far as we who prostitute ourselves and ghostwrite, that’s the point, we get paid so don’t worry about us. Why do they hire me? Because I write well, and they don’t. Or I have the time to write and they don’t. Or I like to write and they don’t.

If you have a problem with the ethics of ghostwriting, you have a problem with the ethics of life. 

In that regard, it’s easy to stand with you full strong. 

And perhaps therein lies the rub.

New Look Sabres: GM 53 - CAR - Chasing Two

We meet again, Canes of Carolina. Your 53 is our 53 now as we meet for the 53rd game of the season. We already did playoff trash talk for the Canes but I got a feeling there will be more coming down the stretch here. Why do we hate the Hurricanes so much right now? The Skinner stuff is behind us and I suspect his extension will soon be as well. It’s probably the gull of a team as consistently bad as Carolina, perhaps longer than Buffalo has been bad, deciding this is the season to get in our fucking way. Unless one of Pittsburgh, Boston or Montreal hits the skids real hard down the stretch it’s you, me and Columbus for the one wildcard spot left in the East. So fuck you Carolina: this Sabres team has been shit for a solid two months straight but whatever hope I can muster that they still got a chance at the playoffs this year I will sharpen into a fine shiv and run into this cage match with. That hope could have died tonight. For some of you reading this it may have. This game was about chasing two straight wins – two straight wins which would be this club’s first two wins in a row since December. Perhaps they ultimately didn’t get there because they were doing too much chasing so to speak. But what occurred last night was not the performance of a club accepting its fate and tapping out of the playoff race. What happened last night was enough to make the Spartans at Thermopylae proud. Sure, once you explained ice hockey to them and they observed it long enough to understand what being good at it looks like they may have had some thoughts on the Sabres first period and most of their third; but CHIN UP I say to you! Chin up because this Sabres club is not going down without a fight! Honey, we’re going down swinging!  

The Carolina Hurricanes came out shooting like lax southern gun laws to start the first: every puck that a Sabre was not on was scooped up by Hurricane and blown into the zone closest to Linus Ullmark (Thanks Coach, I knew you would make the right goalie decision). The Canes did what any team who watches this Buffalo club knows is the Sabres biggest weakness as of late: turnovers, unforced and not. The team from south of the Mason-Dixon Line capitalized in this brutal stretch when North Carolina’s favorite soft boy Sebastian Aho served up the juiciest pass from behind the net to a streaking Justin Faulk. Ullmark couldn’t get to the other post in time and Faulk buried it. Well beach bodies: up here in New York we got this thing called ice, the game is actually played on it. What followed shortly after the Faulk goal was a penalty on definitely-moonlighting-as-a-vampire Jaccob Slavin which led to a powerplay for the home team that froze Carolina up like a Buffalo Ice Storm. The powerplay was fruitless but the Sabres poured shots on Curtis McElhinney for the rest of the period. Teuvo Teravainen tallied a second goal for Carolina early in the second period. At this point in the night I’m listening to the game on the radio driving up the 190. WGR 550 has these musical interludes as the broadcast returns from break and at this 2-0 dire moment in the second period one of those interludes was a section of “Slide” by Goo Goo Dolls. My throat got real dry and I shed a tear. Is it because I’m an emotional wreck paying attention to the Sabres these days? NO! But a good guess. NO, it’s because I visualized the playoffs like Jack tells us to and I felt it slipping away! But then what happened? Jack’s team came back.

HUT HUT, FIND A HOLE! The McElhinney wall has to come down! FIND A HOLE! Ristolainen from the line: save; puck to Conor Sheary in front: save; puck to Evan Rodriguez who holds and sweeps that puck into the hole like the beautiful Canadian Sniper he is! Now the Canes really froze up like they’d never seen ice before because seven minutes later resident Dad-Bod Jason Pominville collected his own rebound and tapped an equalizer past McElhinney. Tie game you fair weather mother fuckers! Believe it or not it’s hot here for a couple months in each year and you know what I spend that time doing? Oh, not going to the playoffs? You’re funny: you’re a real piece of work for giving more of a shit about NASCAR than the variable 1970s strong man competition of a gun show y’all have for a lineup! Oh, but when hockey players clap a little and slide down the ice into the goal like it’s a slip-and-slide after wins all you guys come running to the arena! I hope y’all don’t make the playoffs just because you’re a bunch of fucking ungrateful slow talkers who like Duke! The game was tied! It was tied going into the third! And then what happened? Well: a relative menagerie of frat-boy-looking Hurricanes capitalized on the Sabres doing Sabres things like turning over the puck and chasing it around like they’re fishing catch-and-release! First it was wrestling team captain and beer-pong champion of the Carolinas Greg McKegg who polished in a loose puck behind Ullmark after being giving ten fucking years to put it in and still bounced it off the post! Then Jeff Skinner had a fucking hulk moment and realized the profundity of the situation he was in and flew off on a breakaway to guide the puck in like a clumsy baby giraffe. Oh no, I know it was art. Please sign soon, Jeff.

Stop those warm feelings for sweet sweet Jeffery because Fergus, Ontario’s High School Quarterback and favorite ginger son Brock McGinn cleaned up a Jordan Martinook rebound right in front of Ullmark to get the visitors ahead 4-3. Do they even have American Football in small town Ontario? Whatever because here comes the President of the punchable face club Nino Niederreiter to capitalize on the powerplay and put the Canes up 5-3 with five minutes left in regulation. Now here is really the moment when I realized this team isn’t going down without a fight: down by two goals (again, which is a concerning problem all its own) this team did not quit. Jeff Skinner emerged from the box beaten but not defeated. But before he gets his time against his former team it’s time for irony to a drop kick you in the balls. Marco Scandella, in a move that will certainly earn him starts for the rest of the season over far more deserving defensemen, gets the puck from Sam Reinhart and shoots low. The puck went in and it was a one goal game now. Irony has a name and it is Marco Scandella. Perhaps it was too late as time now ticked into the double digits in regulation with the Sabres down by one. Guess who you butter-binging, Trump-voting motherfuckers: JEFF MOTHER FUCKING SKINNER! Collect the puck, toe drag, bender: tie Game! It’s like the third act of fucking Miracle beating the team in the red jersey! There was 56 seconds left on the clock! This one goes to OT. And there, well there Teuvo Teravainen streaks into the Sabres defensive zone 2-on-0 and dekes out Ullmark for the game winner. That’s the way the cookie crumbles in this league: one good rush in OT and it’s all over. Carolina wins 6-5.

The Chase for Two straight wins falls flat; but you know what didn’t fall flat? Yea, the Buffalo Sabres. Yeah, they really stunk up most of the third and looked like they were playing hot potato with the puck for most of the first but you know what: that was one hell of a comeback, two if we’re counting game deficits here. Imagine Jeff Skinner pots the OT winner for a hat trick and the Sabres get two points out of this game instead of just one. It’s a whole different conversation then, isn’t it? I’m not rationalizing the many mistakes or playing the what-if game. I’m calling the glass half full and I don’t know about you but I’m not holding my breath tomorrow waiting for Jason Botterill to make a trade as if 95% of the trades he could reasonably make would have any effect on this team down the stretch. We got what we got right now folks and trust me; I am dying for the playoffs too. What happened last night was not nothing and we didn’t get nothing for it either. Carolina, you better watch your back because we’re breathing down it and every game between now and March 16th is going to be an assault on your chances to take that spot from Columbus. The Sabres can certainly get three points out of this weekend’s two matchups and Carolina only has one game in that same stretch so there’s a scenario where we’re sitting here Monday morning and the Sabres are 1 point back of that playoff spot and ahead of Carolina again. Yea, I’m not broken yet and neither should you be. Honey, we’re going down swinging.

Of course everyone in the locker room is going to be disappointed with that result and that emotion is good even if Savior Sam is misdirecting it at Ullmark. Phil Housley was the only postgame interview I was at all embarrassed by. He’s the one misusing players out the wazoo and throwing forward line combinations at Velcro board and seeing what sticks. Put out your best lineup, Phil. This is the team now and I’m not saying it is good enough to make the playoffs having won 9 of its last 28 games but teams not good enough make the playoffs all the time, you can ask New Jersey about that. And I refuse to hop on the locomotive of self-loathing Sabres twitter seems to be on. This game just gave me too much to chew on. Well like, comment and share this blog even if you think I am insane.     I’ve been craving some fancy dairy-free nachos and this plate did NOT disappoint. The @CholulaHotSauce cashew sour cream took it to the next level 🙌🏼🙌🏼They were so good I might have made them twice already😬 This is one of those meals that will impress your friends and make you seem like a fancy master chef 💁🏻‍♀️but is actually super simple and can be whipped up in just under an hour. Although this recipe as written is vegan, swap out the beans and corn for ground turkey taco meat and you are good to go for a Paleo or Whole30 approved meal. [ad] MAKE THIS PLATE: CHOLULA CASHEW SOUR CREAM: (Adapted from @ohsheglows cashew sour cream) -3/4 cup water -1 1/2 cups cashews -2 Tablespoons lemon juice -2 tsp apple cider vinegar -pinch of salt -5-6 Tablespoons Cholula Hot Sauce (depending on how much flavor you want) DIRECTIONS: 1. Soak cashews in boiling water, for at least an hour. Blend all ingredients together in a high-speed blender until the consistency is smooth. 2. Sweet potato fries (I think they are easier to pick up than circular shapes): Preheat oven to 425, wash sweet potatoes, cut into wedges/fries, brush with avocado oil and use s&p. Cook for 40-60 minutes, stirring halfway through. 3. Top fries with: baby tomatoes, avocados, black beans, black olives, fresh corn, jalapenos, a squeeze of fresh lime, cilantro, and the Cholula sour cream
