This particular school year is the first for Slifer Red’s new Co-Ed status. As Obelisk Blue has two separate dorms and Ra Yellow is large enough to split down the middle in terms of rooms, the Slifers are few in number, with girls even fewer. Including Aoi, the dorm houses six girls in two rooms, three and three. With so few and very little interest in red as a whole, many students eager to get out rather than stay in, the choice was made to simply make red a co-ed dorm, with strict rules in place.

Of course strict isn’t all that strict when they have Professor Banner for a headmaster and few of them care to flirt, just advance.

Three girls hold claim to room 105, right next to the cafeteria on the ground floor. Aoi and her two roommates, Kassidy and Mia, are in room 203 - Smack dab in the middle of the second floor. Neither set of girls is bothered by their living arrangements, though all but one are eager to move on - that one, of course, being Aoi.

Little is known about the trio in room 105, aside from the fact they rarely go anywhere without the one another, and simply wish to advance to Ra Yellow as quickly as they can..

Kassidy and Mia of 203 are a constant source of frustration for Aoi. Unlike Jaden, who gets along rather well with and even befriends his roommates Syrus and Chumley in 205, she has very little in common with the girls.

Both are the typical ‘girly-girl’ types, preferring to talk of boys, dating, and makeup rather than the actual reason they’re attending the academy. (Un)Ironically, both girls also play decks related to the frog prince fairy tale; Kassidy plays a ‘Prince Charming’ deck, consisting of various princes, kings, and knights, while Mia has a frog deck. The two are often tag partners for this reason.

Kassidy is a ‘fan’ of nail polish and manicures, though anyone else would call it an obsession. At the academy alone, she has a collection of over 100 different polishes, and changes the one she wears every few days. Her desk in their room is littered with various manicure tools and bottles of polish, and when she’s sitting at it, there’s little that can break through her daze. Each nail must be perfect, or she starts all over again.

When she’s not talking of boys, looking for a date, or doing her nails, she does enjoy mystery novels. Each week, she borrows one from the library and reads through it between homework and her manicures, repeating the process the next week. It’s something she prefers to keep hidden from Mia and Aoi, though they’ve both caught her reading one while filing before.

Kassidy’s ultimate goal is to marry rich, and she sees becoming a pro as the first step to that. Unlike others who actively seek a chance to be a professional Duelist for the sake of dueling, she feels it’ll place her in a world where she’ll be noticed and find her ‘Prince Charming’, though to be fair, she does have the dueling skills to back up her choice. She just… Doesn’t like the chance of damaging her nails on her duel disk.

On the other hand, Mia follows fashion trends, but only those shown on celebrities in magazines. She’s in the habit of ‘rating’ the appearances of the other girls she meets and sticking her nose in for unwanted advice on makeup and hairstyles, even keeping current fashion magazines under her pillow for a quick reference. While Aoi, too, loves fashion, Mia is definitely not the person to turn to for advice in it.

On the side, Mia actually enjoys drawing, though she’s not very good at it in the least. She’s rather good, instead, at math and knitting, though like Kassidy’s novels, knitting is something she won’t admit to, thinking it a hobby only for older people. She keeps bits of yarn hidden away in their closet, and tries to work with it whenever she’s alone in the room.

In the end, Mia, also, wishes only to marry, though she sees little point in becoming a pro for it. Her sole reason in attending the academy is to find a boyfriend she can bring home, though like Kassidy, she has the dueling skills to prove she belongs in the school. Her goal is to work her way up to Obelisk Blue and find a guy there, perhaps even someone like Syrus’s older brother… How dreamy…!

Frankly, Aoi’d rather be with Jaden.

Part four of a 2018 Camp NaNoWriMo Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Elementshipping novel. Based on rp’s between myself ( @getyouraoion ) and my amazing, precious Twin’s Jaden ( @kiibx ), By The Pulse Of A Heartbeat tells the story of how Aoi and Jaden met at Duel Academy and formed their incredibly tight friendship, eventually falling into a relationship, and how they handle the various threats thrown at them over their three years of schooling.

There are currently no triggers, but should any arise, they will be tagged.

Summary:

Duel Academy is the place to be, the dream school for many kids. Be it through intense studying, duel prep schools, scholarships, or being rich enough to buy their way in, most kids have had their sights set on it for a long time, knowing it to be the perfect place to start towards a career as a professional duelist. Someone has to Dethrone Yugi and take the title of King of Games, and everyone wants a shot!

Except that is, for Aoi Sakazaki.

Falling in love with Duel Monsters when her father bought her several cards in her childhood, she makes the choice to try her hand at the entrance exams, despite having no idea what she wants to do with her life… And just barely squeaks her way in. Her poor exams scores, combined with even poorer grades, land her a solid spot in the Academy’s Slifer Red dorm - The lowest of the low, where students are almost expected to drop out if they don’t advance to Ra Yellow or Obelisk Blue, first.

The rank comes with the rest of the school looking down on them, as well as the worst lodging the furthest distance from the main campus and fewest privileges compared to the other dorms. But it also brings a surprise friend in fellow Slifer student Jaden Yuki, who seems to have absolutely no problem with the hand they’ve been dealt.

It’s not long before Aoi and Jaden find themselves caught up in a whirlwind of an adventure, dealing with exams, classes, ‘evil’ teachers, and somehow still finding enough time to explore the island they now call home. But living on Academy Island isn’t all fun and games; shortly after their schooling begins, things around their home begin to change, and rarely for the better.

Neither friend has any idea what lies in wait for them in the next three years… But is it an adventure they’ll be able to tackle together, or will it end their time at the school - and them - before it’s even begun?

It’s time to put their skills where their mouths are and find out!

All it took was a minute of being inside the school itself to realize Kaiba had gone all out with his funding. The lobby was one grand room, elaborate and beautiful in nature. And containing nature, to boot, small gardens and even trees planted in raised flower beds underneath sections of the roof turned into skylights. Benches sat around each, students dotting the room and the less elaborate halls.

Without classes beginning for another day, the classrooms had proven to be empty- Save one, that was, containing the students who'd been on the helicopter, as well as a few others. All decked out in their uniforms, Aoi couldn't help but feel like a duclking waiting for the mother duck to show up on the massive screen on the wall, displaying the school's logo.

Leaning back, she took a glance at the line students behind her; aside from her, there were only two other girls, one in blue, the other yellow. Even among the boys, there were few who wore red; was it some kind of fashion statement or something? Why were the yellow and blue uniforms so popular? Even better, why were the boy's blue uniform blazers so fancy?

At least Syrus wore red, she noticed, facing front and finally spotting the boy in the front row. A slight lean to the left showed Jaden in a matching red blazer, head bowed and posture slumped, though she couldn't tell why from two rows behind them. They'd had a long flight... Maybe tired? Even if he'd slept through more than half of it, from what she could tell, skimming the rest of the group to find Bastion off to the other side in the row before her.

The screen finally flickered to life, the smiling face displayed one she instantly recognized from a picture in the lobby, prompting her to straighten up just a little more as his lips parted. “Good morning and welcome, my students! I'm Chancellor Sheppard, the headmaster here, and you are the best and brightest young duelists in the world.”

The sound of snoring caught her attention, the barest bit of a lean showing her a still slumped Jaden. Was... Was he actually asleep?!

“Now please, get yourselves settled in at your assigned dorms. I think you'll find them quite comfortable- Depending on how well you ranked, of course!” The laughter that followed had her pouting; what did he mean by 'ranked'? Whatever it was, the chancellor at least seemed kind, easing just a few more of her nerves. “Remember to pick up your PDAs on your way out, as well. They'll be your lifeline- You don't want to lose that!”

The dismissal right after was brief before the feed cut out, Aoi taking the chance to rub her temples while Syrus nudged at Jaden's side. These were her classmates... Confusing ones, too, given Jaden's ability to bolt by her at a dead run within just seconds of waking and being told what to do next. Still, it was hard not to smile, turning on her heel to follow after him once Syrus had passed by, too. Definitely wouldn't be routine schooling with them around, that was for sure.

The steps up to the doors would take some getting used to, reminding her of the university classrooms her father had told her about. For a moment, she caught herself wondering what his university had been like; was it as strict as Duel Academy? Uniforms? Where was it? She'd have to ask the next time they spoke, barely hearing the aide outside the classroom door ask for her name before handing her a PDA.

The bit of electronics had a decent weight in her hand, feeling much like the portable game console she'd packed away in one of her suitcases. Silvery grey in color, it had a stylus tucked into a slot at the top and a clear plastic panel serving as a cover. A cover she wouldn't open until she'd found her way out the school's front doors, either, not wanting to get lost on her first day.

Figuring out the menus meant she barely cast Bastion a glance when he passed by, slowly working out where to find her dorm assignment. Slifer Red... It explained the red of her uniform, at least, but then why was Bastion in yellow? Or the other kids in blue? Or Syrus sitting against one of the decorative stone carvings of duel monsters- Wait. If he was there, she doubted Jaden was far behind, though she could still muster her courage and try asking him for an explanation.

“Well now, let's see here... Yellow sleeves, yellow buttons... I don't think so,” Bastion remarked, his voice stopping her in her tracks. From where she stood, she could see a leg shift into view from the other side of the stone, clad in light grey pants; how had she known Jaden wouldn't be far from Syrus?

“So what?! Ever think I'm colorblind?”

“Well no, actually, I didn't. Are you colorblind?”

“Haha- Nah, but I couldda been.”

Yet again, she felt the need to rub her temples, barely managing to hide a smile. It figured that the bright sun that seemed to be Jaden couldn't stay irritated for long, waving at Bastion's back as he started to walk away. But his sense of humor... Cheesy, silly and something else all wrapped into one, she wasn't sure if she should laugh or groan, and instead turned her attention back to her PDA... Until the yellow clad male jerked a thumb over his shoulder, commenting on the direction their dorm was in.

So colors meant different buildings... That figured, too, though she had no interest in following the boys just yet. The deck case shoved underneath the back of her shirt had been digging into her skin since before the introduction, and all she wanted was to get her bag and stick it back in there until a better solution came up.

But a step down the walkway with her eyes still pinned on the PDA, searching for where her bag would be, came with very nearly colliding with another. Barely catching a glimpse of blue, she forced herself to a sudden stop, head lifting to find herself far too close and face to face with a raven-haired male flanked by two other students. Her surprise lasted for all of a moment before the defensive feeling jumped into its place, the red-clad teen quick to back off and put some space between them. “Watch where y' goin'. Or d' y' always run int' distracted girls?”

She hadn't meant to snap, but with the way he smirked, she had a feeling it didn't matter. “Look here, fresh Slacker meat, fresh off the boat. Get over yourself- If you think I even care about touching a Slifer Slacker, you've got another thing comin'.”

“Cocky. Mama raised y' real polite, huh?”

“I didn't say you could speak to me!”

“Didn't hafta. As long as I can move m' lips an' produce a sound, y' can deal with m'. N' why don't y' get over yourself?”

Dark eyes narrowed, his smirk going from cocky and sarcastic to downright furious. If he was trying to hide it, it wasn't working, she wanted to note, retreating into her own defensive 'shell' and readying herself for another onslaught of 'insults'. This was the kind of person she didn't really mind snarking at, especially when he snapped back and added fuel to the fire �� reasons why she couldn't stand strangers.

“You've got a big mouth for a nothing. You wanna try that again?” His arms lifted, crossing over his chest. “Not worth my time.”

She could say the same for him, though bit her tongue on that one, grip tightening on her PDA. “Jerk-”

“Awww, is the widdle red upset? Gonna go cry to mommy 'cause the better man won?”

“At least m' hair doesn't look like a buzzsaw.”

His friends were on him in a heartbeat, holding him back and pleading with 'the Chazz' to take it easy as his insults in return became nothing more than a sputtering, angry mess. Taking that as her cue, Aoi stuck her tongue out, making a mental note of the name they were calling him and ducking around the three to flee. She'd thought things would be crazy with just Jaden... To be fair, though, if she never saw Chazz again, it'd be too soon!

Finally locating the pile of bags with the aid of the device in her hand, the new Slifer gabbed hers up and headed in the direction Bastion had earlier pointed out. The walk was quiet, at least once she'd left the main campus, and finally gave her a chance to breathe. So much had happened already, and it'd only been a few hours... Duel Academy was already nothing like she'd imagined it.

Tucking the PDA into her bag's front pocket beside her book, she slung it over her shoulder, studying the scenery around her. The island really was beautiful... She'd honestly thought the school would be somewhere else, accessible by car, or walking, and definitely not as colorful as it was. Instead, she got a sea of students in yellow, blue, and red, an island with the most mild weather ever for the middle of October, and a lot of red clothing coming her way, no doubt.

But it wasn't that bad, especially if she ignored Chazz. The Chancellor seemed nice, as did many of the staff members she'd either met or passed by already. And being a Slifer Red meant she'd be sharing a dorm with a kid who honestly reminded her of the sun rising in the morning, eager and bright and lighting up everything around him. Every time she thought he'd be somewhere else and unseen for the rest of the year, he kept getting placed right back in her path... And she wasn't really willing to fight it anymore. Besides, he made her smile – And nobody said they needed to be friends, after all.

Lost in her thoughts, the dorm came up faster than she'd expected for such a long walk, though the building was anything but what she'd though of. Bearing the red roof she'd seen from the harbor, she could spot every instance of peeling paint from where she stood, the entire exterior worn and in desperate need of a bit of TLC. “Kindda looks like a treehouse someone forgot 'bout,” she muttered, pulling her bag around her just long enough to check her PDA for her room number. Maybe it looked better on the inside...

Quickly realizing her room was on the second level, she took the steps two at a time, even pausing when one gave a creak darker and deeper than just being an old, creaky staircase. No wonder there were so few of them that she'd seen; nobody else would want to live in a place like this!

Thankfully, the steps held out without a problem, leaving her to make her way past two doors. The middle room, huh... Not a problem, though the doorknob squeaked a little when she turned it, a match for the equally as vocal door the second it started moving. 'A bit of TLC' might've been an understatement if even the doors complained.

The scent of nail polish hit her nose first and foremost,a familiar smell that gave rise to a pang of homesickness. She'd always loved it when her mother had helped her with her nails, making a big 'manicure day' of it, though she doubted what was going on was anything like that. And when a pair of blue eyes glanced up at her from one of the three connected desks lining the right wall, that thought was proven absolutely true.

She'd not expected roommates, though that had been stupid on her part. The other girl seemed harmless enough; light, almost ashy blonde hair pulled back into a high ponytail, pale skin, watching her while blowing on her nails.. Oh yeah. Definitely harmless, but it still wouldn't lower her urge to be defensive, anyway. “Sorry. Shouldda knocked- I'm y' roommate.”

The girl simply blew on her nails once more before leaning back in her chair. “Hey Mia, the third bunk's getting filled up after all.”

A second girl stuck her head around the ladder from the bottom bunk faster than anything, Aoi biting her tongue to keep from laughing at the thought of her as a meerkat, popping up out of nowhere-

“...6. Dated hairstyle, nails aren't done, uniform's not showing off enough.”

Though it was a desire that quickly faded, expression falling. Really? They were rating her appearance? Was this beauty school or Duel Academy? “...I'm fine jus' th' way I am, thanks. Name's Aoi.”

Mia crawled out from her bunk, tugging at her uniform once she was on her feet to fix what Aoi could only imagine were imaginary wrinkles. The only creases visible were from the fabric being folded, considering her own still bore the same. “I'm Mia, she's Kassidy.” She waved a hand at the blonde now blowing on the nails of her other hand, using the first to give a half-hearted attempt of a wave. “The middle bunk's open. You can have that one... Do you really wear your hair in pigtails like that all the time?”

She swallowed the urge to ask if Mia kept her auburn hair tied up in curlers all night for the light wave and curls she had going on like her grandmother usually did, choosing instead to close the door behind her and remove her backpack from her shoulder. “Mhm. I like m' pigtails,” she managed out, kicking off her boots and stepping fully into the room. It wasn't all that large, the beds and desks taking up most of the space, but it'd be enough for the three of them to live comfortably and not be constantly running into each other, at least.

Shoving her bag onto the middle bunk, she looked back to the door, ignoring the quick flash of by now familiar brunette hair passing by its small window. They had a sink and small stove, already decked out with a kettle and one cup, though she assumed there'd be more in the cabinets underneath. The doors to the right of it had been opened, too, one side containing a closet, complete with small drawers and just barely enough room for her clothes among those already hung up, the other nothing more than a toilet. At least they didn't need an outhouse for a middle of the night 'nature' run...

Only then did she realize Mia'd lost interest in her, turning to find the petite and pretty girl leaning against one of the desks, watching Kassidy carefully brush a layer of clear over her nails. “Did you see that Obelisk boy earlier? I think his name was Hideki...”

“The black haired one by the big tree? C'mon, Mia, everyone saw him. He's absolutely dreamy – nobody would want to look away. I didn't.”

“I wouldn't mind even five minutes alone with him~! I hear his father owns his own company. Cute and rich!”

By the time they'd both looked back to her, Aoi had taken to simply staring at them with a blank look. Just the thought of going on a date was unsettling... Not as much as actually being that close to a guy for 'fluffy' reasons, but unsettling all the same.

“What about you, Aoi? Anyone here catch your eye yet~?”

The question snapped her from her daze, unable to stop a slight shudder. “N' way. N' interested in a romance. I'm here t' duel, n' get close t' boys.” Lifting the back of her shirt some, she slipped her deck case out from where it'd been pressed into her back. If they wanted boys, that was their thing, but she had more important things to worry about.

“Oh, c'mon. There's gotta be someone. This island's filled with cute boys! So many dates to be had!”

Another shudder slipped free, though she covered that one with pulling a belt from her backpack and loosely wrapping it around her hips. The case slipped onto it, thin belt sliding through the loop on the back, and in no more than a few seconds, she had the buckle done up and case pushed behind her, where it belonged. Having her deck just made things feel a little.. Better, kindda. “Why d' I hafta b' interested? I'm n'. I'm workin' towards bein' a duelist.”

Thankfully, the girls shared a glance and a shrug just as she spotted her suitcases near the closet. Another quick root through her bag produced a small music player and earbuds, quick to pop the headphones into her ears and hit first the power button, then play. Her PDA had made mention of a welcome dinner for the dorm, but it wasn't for another two hours- just enough time to get unpacked and ignore the conversation at hand!

Or rather, enough time for her to completely forget the meaning of unpacking,one of two suitcases done while the second lay on the floor,half unpacked and the remaining contents a complete mess. Armed with a needle and thread from a travel sewing kit, Aoi had taken instead to cutting off the sleeves of the blazer left for her as promised, carefully hemming the arm holes to make a vest from it. She'd brought three sweatshirts of her own; it wasn't like she'd be cold.

A pair of black boots sat beside her while she worked, red magic marker resting on top of them while the freshly colored tongues dried. This idea would probably get her into trouble, but if Jaden could wear a t-shirt and light grey jeans with an open blazer when everyone else was mostly uniform with turtlenecks and dark pants, why couldn't she change up her uniform, too? As long as she wore her dorm's color, what was the problem? She had the sewing skills; it wasn't like she was going to look horrible with it!

She'd barely finished one arm hole when Kassidy plucked one of the small purple buds from her ear. “Hey. That dumb welcome dinner's starting in a few minutes. You coming?”

A glance at her PDA and the window said the other was right; the sun had nearly set in her distraction, 7 in the evening no more than a couple minutes away. And there was no way she was missing dinner when none of her group on the helicopter had gotten lunch, either, though she did lean away from Kassidy once she realized how close the other teen was. “Er.. Yeah. Never had lunch...”

“Great way to work on your figure-”

“N' really.” Setting aside her work, Aoi forced herself to her feet, ignoring the aches of having sat in one position for far too long. She'd had the perfect platform to work on between her lap and suitcase, though instantly regretted it on the first step towards her red boots by the door. “I'm starvin'. Wonder how th' food is.”

Her roommate shrugged. “Dunno. Didn't want to try it for lunch. I've been here since this morning- Mia was here sooner. Went ahead, too.”

That explained why they were the only ones in the room, at least. Her boots were a quick slip on, and in less than 30 seconds she'd gotten the creaking door open and body back outside. The weather had cooled with the setting sun, albeit it to just barely a chill. Compared to the already freezing weather back home, this was paradise!

But Kassidy didn't seem to think the same, crossing her arms over her chest and making a grand show of shivering once she was outside. “I'm gonna g' ahead,” she managed out, quickly making her way down the balcony and connected stairs, lest the blonde notice the incredibly hard roll of her eyes she couldn't hold back. The school was worth dealing with her boy-crazy roommates.

Spotting several boys headed to the other side of the relatively small dorm, she followed after, not at all surprised to find their cafeteria set against the main building. But that said nothing for the shock of finding it to be hardly larger than two or three of the dorm rooms put together, tables pressed to the walls to make two rows with four stools to each, two on each side and a tray for each seat. It was crowded, for sure, but so long as nobody touched her, she could deal with it, just like everything else.

Grabbing the first seat she saw, she cast a smile to the three boys already at her table, careful to adjust her skirt so it wouldn't ride up. There was no way she was wearing that thing for an entire year-! Though... On a quick look around, there were only three girls aside from herself and her roommates, the rest of the small group made up of boys making faces at the trays set out. Not surprising; dueling had always been ruled by men, even she knew that... Though she'd never seen anyone make a face at their food-

Or lack thereof, she realized, finally looking down to her own tray. 'Meager' didn't begin to explain the few small fish and rice, and.. What even was that with it? This was their welcome dinner?

“Check out our headmaster- It's a cat!”

She snorted, leaning towards the table and propping her head up on her hand, elbow set by her tray. “Story of m' life... An' definitely par f' th' course.” Figured her bad luck would follow her to the academy... “B' th' cat's cute.”

The boy sitting across from her matched her snort with one of his own, waving a hand. “'Least we won't have much homework,” he joked, winning a grin from the pigtailed teen before the the kitchen emptied itself, admitting a new, far older face to the room with a broad smile.

“Hello, children! I'm Professor Banner. Now, before we eat, I'd like you each to tell us something about your-”

“Mm, this stuff's good!”

Aoi sighed, turning on her stool for a glimpse of Jaden several tables back, already shoving food in his face. Somehow, she'd expected that, stifling a giggle with a lightly clenched fist. If the one thing he had to say about himself was that he was starving on Syrus's note, then she knew all she needed to about the brunette!

It was even harder to hide her giggles as Banner passed by, resorting to biting her finger to hopefully stop them. But it was the announcement they could just dig in that finally broke her, the student's silence further broken by her own quick cry of “finally!” and Jaden's resulting laugh as she grabbed a fish to shove in her mouth. The stares from the boys around her did little in the way of bothering her; how could they when they finally had food!? And good food, to boot!

Maybe this academy wouldn't be so bad after all!

Aikatsu! Episodes 26-30

Ah... youth.

Trying to do this early today because PRECURE. So let's go through this quickly. XD

Oh the Sakura debut episode, I remember this one. Also new OP!!!!! Man I love Diamond Happy. Sakura is fancy. XD And her brother is a pain in the ass. Geez he's just the worst time of brother, it makes me want to throw up.

Ran seems so angry at her underclassman, what the hell.

Omg this is so adorable. And is also something so Ichigo to do. xD Okay I remembered that Sakura had win this so I'm surprised that she actually lost. Just to show how bad my memory is. 😅 Omg this ending is extremely cute. (And also full of spoilers 😅) Next episode.

The Special Appeal teacher is a weirdo. Lol Why it doesn't surprise me that they're not alone in the mountain? XD I thought Ran wouldn't have problem with reminding of having fun and enjoying the stage since her main trouble a few episodes ago was exactly the same thing. 🤔 Yurika x Ran is still the best duo.

"Monthly Mizuki" it sounds a little excessive to have a magazine dedicated to a singe person.

But honestly I would buy a magazine if it came with a poster like this. Help that's a pretty weird analogy. LOL RAN YOU'RE WAY TOO CUTE. Mizuki is so sure that she's going to win that she's using a Rare coords against a premium to give Ichigo a chance. Wow. That's so sweet from Aoi. I can't think of anyone who would do that. (But then again, I don't have that many friends so XD) Just as a closing note, what a boring cup this is the same song being performed over and over and the majority of it done just in regular school coords and with quick appeals. I know that this is done so it's fair with all students but cmon. We've seen the same song 3 times in the last 2 episodes. That's way too much. 😅 Anyway, let's go to the next.

Why are they so worried about teaching? Weren't they doing this with the newcomers a few episodes back? Of course Ichigo would trip over. XD but what the hell was she doing with the rice scoop there? Okay I would actually like to go to an Aoi lecture, it seems pretty good. I like how they seem so impressed by the spring collection cards when they're just recolors of coords we've already seen. LOL Hey that's the first time the three of them are performing Idol Katsudou together. It was about time. Yeah not a lot to talk about this episode. It was a good filler though. Okay to the last episode of the day.

So this is basically a 1, 2 Sing episode years before the song was a thing. 😂 Yurika running? *insert Aoi's voice here* That's rare. XD Ohhhh so this is when Sakura gets her PR.

I know this is a sad moment, and I want to cheer Sakura up. But is kinda funny to see her saying this when the brand was created in the game just for her. 😅

Can we take a moment to appreciate how cool Sakura's roommate is? When Sakura goes all Kitaouji Theater mode is kinda embarrassing. 😅 This new PR for Otome came out of nowhere, what the fuck? LOL Well I'm not complaining, is the best of all 3 Happy Rainbow's PRs imo, I'm glad we got to see it so soon.

I LOVE THEIR DESIGN. Okay, they got 4 masteries with this one right? And we're barely past the midpoint. So how many of these are left? And also, what's their importance anyway, cuz I completely forgot. 😅 Next episode seems to be about Masquerade, I hope my questions about Orihime and Ringo are answered this episode (or at least give us some insight about them.) But that will be for tomorrow. I had to do a break to watch precure, it got a little late aND I'M TIRED. See y'all tomorrow with more Aikatsu AND THE FIRST POST ABOUT PRECURE!!!!!! YAY!!!!

Push off a cliff: Tbh, he’d never… ever be listed here if it wasn’t either him or the characters I love the most in the entire franchise, but I’ll have to go with Yuusaku for this. Of course, if there were an option like that, the cliff’d be less than two meters high and I’d have him land on the softest pillows in existence as he is one of my VR faves.

Kiss: Reiji or Shun (how very supriiiising, I know lol)

Marry: Reiji or Shun (though I’d prefer them to kiss and marry one another instead)

Set on Fire: Blue Girl! Aoi. I want that thing out of my sight. Blue Angel!Aoi, however, and especially from her very first appearances, will always be one of my VR faves who deserves nothing but happiness.

Wrap a Blanket around: Yuuto… his way too early shafting will always make me angry on his behalf as he deserved so much better.

Be Roommates with: Ruriiiiiiiiiiii, though I’m going to go with my version of her for this that is based on season one and the bits characterization depicted in ep 75 for this lol Later canon Ruri, on the other hand… I’d definitely set her on fire.

In-depth headcanons!

1. Does your character have siblingsor family members in their age group? Which oneare they closest with?

She’s an only child, but Aoi does have a cousin who’s about two years younger than she is. They’re pretty close, tho she hasn’t talked to him in a couple years. Once she gets home again, she plans on calling him.

2. What is/was your character’srelationship with their mother like?

They’re really close, to the point she feels safe telling her just about anything. Her mother fusses and worries over her being at Duel Academy, even if she’s quick to change her tone once she finds out who her friends are. XD Still, her mom knows her and always sends her things in her care package she might need but forgets to mention, or adds a little gift she’d enjoy.

3. What is/was your character’srelationship with their father like?

4. Has your character ever witnessedsomething that fundamentally changed them? If so, does anyone elseknow?

The biggest thing she’s seen is a car crash when she was about five. One person didn’t survive, and she never forgot her mother’s words to her that evening, when she was still crying over how scary the entire scene had been: “Live every day to the fullest, because you never know when it might be your last.” She didn’t notice it then, being just a little kid, but her attitude changed after that and turned her into an even brighter, bubblier person.

5. On an average day, what can be found inyour character’s pockets?

Her PDA, a piece or two of wrapped candy, possibly a ribbon (for her hair… Or to play with Jaden’s XD), a bit of money (especially if headed in the way of the school’s store), and if it counts as a pocket, her deck in her deck case.

6. Does your character have recurringthemes in their dreams?

Not usually. Her dreams can range anywhere from dancing piglets in a broadway play to something incredibly dark and terrifying. She frequently gets a nightmare in her last year at the academy of Jaden being lost to his darkness, but aside from that, her dreams vary quite a bit.

7. Does your character have recurringthemes in their nightmares?

If you consider frequently having the same nightmare of losing Jaden as a theme, then yes - Her nightmares usually include losing someone close to her, though in that senior year it’s usually her closest friend. She’s terrified of losing him.

8. Has your character ever fired a gun? Ifso, what was their first target?

Nope. She’s fashioned one out a rubber band and her fingers though, does that count? XD

9. Is your character’s currentsocioeconomic status different than it was when they were growing up?

Been fairly the same her entire life. She’s middle-class and has stayed there - definitely fine with that, too.

10. Does your character feel morecomfortable with more clothing, or with less clothing?

In between; Aoi likes to follow fashion trends, but she edits them herself for her own sense of fashion, style, and comfort. Aside from her halloween costume (which she didn’t even pick out, Jaden- XD), which showed off more skin that she’s used to, she’s usually covered and presentable for the most part, but it’s not a whole heck or a lot, nor very little. Just… Layered. A lot.

11. In what situation was your characterthe most afraid they’ve ever been?

The car crash when she was five, and during Yubel’s ‘reign of terror’, as she’s calling it. Also during anything having to do with shadow games. She tries not to show it, but her trembling hands and stuttering probably gave her away.

12. In what situation was your characterthe most calm they’ve ever been?

Surprisingly, during her entrance exams for the academy, during tag duels with Jaden, and after everything having to do with Yubel.She wasn’t too worried about her exam, since she could try again the next year, trusts in Jaden and his skills completely to the point she never has to worry about anything with him, and after living (kind of) through Yubel’s terrors, she was at ease and smiling mostly in an attempt to remind Jaden she wasn’t leaving his side. Just… Also managed to convince herself everything was fine, too.

13. Is your character bothered by the sightof blood? If so, in what way?

Slightly, but only in incredible amounts, and only real blood. Blood in games she’s fine with, but excesive amounts of real blood can and will make her queasy.

14. Does your character remember names orfaces easier?

Faces, but she’s really not bad with names at all. Her bubbly, hyperactive nature means she might not catch a name right away, or remember it, but after she’s heard it two or three times it sticks as well as a face does.

15. Is your character preoccupied withmoney or material possession? Why or why not?

Slightly? I wouldn’t say she’s obsessed with them or anything, but I mean… She loves her stuff, and doesn’t know of anyone who doesn’t. Especially as a duelist, she’s gonna fight you for her cards if she has to. And the girl’s got a lip gloss collection a mile wide- it’s not like she’s obsessed with it, but her things show who she is and her life. She’ll put up a fight to lose them, but she also knows the majority of it can be easily replaced anyway.

16. Which does your character idealizemost: happiness or success?

Happiness. Success comes and goes, and it’s fleeting. You can be successful one day and lose it all the next. But happiness… Happiness you can get back if you lose it. If you lose a job, it’s not as easy and blinking to get it back, whereas a smile you can have back anytime you wish. Happiness is the more powerful feeling.

17. What was your character’s favoritetoy as a child?

A small wooden pig on a leash she loved to tug around the house with her. It had little wheels for feet and its head bobbed when it moved - her father made it for her and it got her interested in pigs, thus starting her absolute love of the animal.

18. Is your character more likely to admirewisdom, or ambition in others?

Ambition, though wisdom isn’t far behind, surprisingly. If there’s anything she admires, it’s her best friend’s drive to be the next king of games and protect everyone he loves and holds dear. He’s not the smartest guy in the world, but she can’t help but admire him. On a much smaller level, she slightly admires people like Bastion as well - people who can ace their exams with very little effort - even if her heart follows Jaden’s example and wants to support him.

19. What is your character’s biggestrelationship flaw? Has this flaw destroyed relationships for thembefore?

She’s not yet had a real (romantic) relationship, but more than likely her affectionate and playful nature. Aoi can get fairly clingy (Laying on her partner, cuddling often, sleeping on them, etc) with the people she loves, and it could easily get overwhelming to most people and prompt them to put distance between them. So far, it’s not ruined anything for her… But to be fair she’s only like this currently with Jaden, who welcomes and returns a lot of it. Doubtful she has to worry about anything with him.

20. In what ways does your charactercompare themselves to others? Do they do this for the sake ofself-validation, or self-criticism?

She’s often comparing her dueling skills to others, though even she’s not sure if it’s for self-validation or criticism. She also tends to look at other girls her age (like her roommates, specifically) and wonder if there’s something wrong with her, considering she doesn’t like much of what they do and lack interest in things typically considered ‘girl talk’, even if she enjoys girl talk in general (She enjoys talk of makeup and such, but add in boys and she clocks out, for example). She knows there’s really nothing wrong with her, it’s just an interest conflict, especially when she knows School star Alexis is the same sometimes, but it’s another “I can’t help it” moment and something she keeps buried.

21. If something tragic or negative happensto your character, do they believe they may have caused or deservedit, or are they quick to blame others?

Both, depending on what happened. if it’s something she personally could have stopped, she’s likely to blame herself, and if it’s something incredibly horrible then completely insist on it and break apart. But if she couldn’t help it in the least, and it wasn’t directly involving her, she’ll blame others out of fear/pain/heartache/whathaveyou until they make her stop and think on what she’s saying.

22. What does your character like in otherpeople?

Kindness, compassion, the ability to think on their actions/before they jump, friendliness… She can’t really give a set cirteria when her friends vary from one else of the spectrum to another (Sweet and puppy-like Jaden is her best friend, but so is the prickly, grumpy porcupine Chazz), but as long as they have a good heart and aren’t trying to hurt anyone and seem kind and able to think on their actions, she’s good.

23. What does your character dislike inother people?

Liars, cheaters, manipulators, those who would hurt others for no reason, jerks (Chazz excluded), those who would force things on her (items or ideals, like her roommates constantly trying to insist she should get a date when she’s said no often)…

24. How quick is your character to trustsomeone else?

Unless your name is Jaden, not very. While he broke down her walls and set up a nice little home in her heart rather quickly, everyone else is subject to scrutinty, Chazz included. She’ll hold back and watch, keep them at arm’s length, make sure they’re not going to hurt her, and then slowly get closer to them. If they’re male, then she still keeps them at arm’s length physically.

25. How quick is your character to suspectsomeone else? Does this change if they are close with that person?

Depending on the situation and how well she knows the person, it can vary. If something goes missing and there’s only one person with the item before it vanished, she’s gonna say it’s them, obviously. She might believe rumors she hears and suspect others she’s not close to. But if she’s close to them, she usually knows them fairly well and isn’t so quick to suspect; for instance, if a card goes missing and Jaden was the last to see it, she knows better than to suspect him because it’s not in his nature to steal.

26. How does your character behave aroundchildren?

If the kids are relatively well behaved, or hyper like herself, she’ll be down on the floor and playing with them in a heartbeat. Adventures, games, fun~! But if they’re more bratty type, I-can-do-as-I-please types, she’s gonna huff and… More than likely get snarked at and snark in return. Doesn’t matter if you’re a kid or an adult, she’s gonna treat you the same.

27. How does your character normally dealwith confrontation?

Depending on the level/type of confrontation, she can go from taking with with a frown or an argument, right up to legit snapping and trying to fight back. Usually, though, she’ll just get stubborn and argue.

28. How quick or slow is your character toresort to physical violence in a confrontation?

Not very. If you hit her, or make an advance on her, she’s gonna punch of slap you. If your goal is to worm your way into her head and under her skin, she’s gonna eventually snap on you, doubly so if the goal is to make her feel like Jaden and/or Chazz are being threatened. Otherwise, she’s just gonna argue with you. A lot.

29. What did your character dream of beingor doing as a child? Did that dream come true?

As a child, she wanted to either be a fashion designer, or work at a zoo, specifically with the piggies. XD Pigs are her favorite animal, and she loved the zoo- Always thought working there would be the best job ever! But now that she’s older, she’s.. Not really sure what she wants, and that scares her a bit.

30. What does your character find repulsiveor disgusting?

Crowler Chazz’s coat, for one thing XD It needs washing so bad the smell alone is enough to make her question if his nose works! She’s also disgusted by a lot of bugs, and scorpions, and really, really doesn’t like spiders. Also, really, really old and really out there foods, like a century egg, or foods that involve parts of an animel that seem disgusting, like sheep’s stomachs for haggis. Just no. Anything BUT that-

31. Describe a scenario in which yourcharacter feels most comfortable.

Sitting around in Jaden’s room, talking to him or working on their decks, leaning against one another, per their norm. She feels safe and secure with him, no matter what happens, and only with him is she at her most relaxed and open. She’s also really comfortable hiding in Chazz’s room with him, though she’s not quite as open and won’t touch him as freely.

32. Describe a scenario in which yourcharacter feels most uncomfortable.

Anytime she’s within close contact with guys, and this includes the Slifer red cafeteria. It’s at the point where she has to sit with Jaden, against a wall with him on her other side, and if she can help it, Chazz to her back, since the cafeteria is really just a single semi-small room. Another situation would be during field exams as a whole, especially when she’s either unprepared or facing down a particularly nasty examiner.

33. In the face of criticism, is yourcharacter defensive, self-deprecating, or willing to improve?

At first defensive; she’s quick to argue to the contrary, though with some people *coughJadencough* her argument dies out incredibly quickly. In all cases, she eventually steps back and gives it some thought, and end up more than willing to improve.

34. Is your character more likely to keeptrying a solution/method that didn’t work the first time, orimmediately move on to a different solution/method?

She’ll try it twice, even though she usually remembers ‘lighting only ever strikes once’, and if it fails a second time she’ll jump to plan B. If it’s in the middle of an emergency situation and plan A fails, there’s no second try- she’s going right to plan B.

35. How does your character behave aroundpeople they like?

See: Chazz and Jaden. XD No but really, she’s affectionate, hyper, bubbly, and in Jay’s case, a bit attached to his hip, though he’s thankfully incredibly welcoming of this. She’s a lot like him, actually; if she likes you, she’s gonna be your bouncy and bubbly, easily excitable friend.

36. How does your character behave aroundpeople they dislike?

She gets quiet, snarky and sassy, and generally withdraws into a shell covered in spikes, especially if she’s there alone. If she’s with someone she likes at the same time, the effect is dulled into withdrawing some and going mostly quietly, but with less snark. She doesn’t want them to worry about her or have to wonder why she’s disliking someone.

37. Is your character more concerned withdefending their honor, or protecting their status?

Honor. Status means nothing to her, especially at the academy, when it can change at any given moment - One loss and you can go from Class Ace to Class Flunkie. She’d much rather protect her honor and her friend’s, and keep them smiling rather than fuss about status.

38. Is your character more likely to removea problem/threat, or remove themselves from a problem/threat?

Depends on the problem/threat. If it’s something small and has no bearing on their lives in general, she’s more than likely going to get sassy at most, and then turn and walk away, unless she’s arguing with Chazz, which never ends. But if it’s a more serious problem, like a shadow game or someone wanting to get at her friends/classmates, she’s going to try her best to remove it, instead. A threat she’ll try and remove, too, unless she recognizes she’d fail at that and step back. She’s impulsive, protective, and stubborn as all getout, but she’s not stupid.

39. Has your character ever been bitten byan animal? How were they affected (or unaffected)?

She’s been bitten by a dog before; it was a stray she found when she was a little kid, lost, matted, covered in mud, and clearly malnourished. The only thing she did was cry for a little bit and come back with dog food day after day until the dog came out and trusted her enough to take it home with her a month later. She still has the dog.

40. How does your character treat people inservice jobs?

Kindly, for the most part. Certain teachers get snarked at and a stubborn girl, but Aoi knows it’s not an easy job and she’s not about to make it harder on them. Like Jaden, she’s more likely to step in and help than she is to make fun of them.

41. Does your character feel that theydeserve to have what they want, whether it be material or abstract,or do they feel they must earn it first?

She feels like she has to earn it. Obviously, she feels she deserves things like food and lodging, but she’s also aware these things are provided for her because she’s just a kid at the moment. Otherwise, she feels like she has to earn it- her mother raised her not to take things for granted, and she most definitely doesn’t. If she doesn’t earn it, but gets it anyway, she’ll feel a bit guilty over it.

42. Has your character ever had a parentalfigure who was not related to them?

Professor Banner, the (former) headmaster of the Slifer Red dorm. To be fair, he was fairly fatherly to all the Slifer students, too, so she was no exception, and she loved that. Later on, she feels like the Chancellor, Sheppard, is a father figure, though her interaction with him is rare and that’s totally fine by her.

43. Has your character ever had a dependentfigure who was not related to them?

Unless her dog counts, she’s only babysat for her neighbors a couple of times. Other than that, she’s been responisble for squat.

44. How easy or difficult is it for yourcharacter to say “I love you?” Can they say it without meaningit?

Yet another ‘it depends’ question. It’s easy to say to her parents, but to Jaden, who she really does fall in love with, it’s at first one of the hardest things she can do, because she’s afraid if he doesn’t feel the same, it’ll ruin their friendship and that’s the last thing she wants. Once past the hurdle tho, she can say it all she wants and not have any problem with getting it out. But it is a phrase she can’t say without meaning it- even if she’s saying it to Chazz in the context of their friendship, she wouldn’t say it if she didn’t mean it.

45. What does your character believe will happen to them after theydie? Does this belief scare them?

She’s not sure, but it definitely is scary to think about. She wants to think her spirit’ll stay with Jaden, like he has his kuriboh, but she’s also aware that’s just being silly and impossible. Still, it’s something she tries not to think of and really doesn’t want to find out before she’s old and grey.

Please forgive any typos and oddness, as this is a project still ongoing. I’m trying to catch them all before I post it, but sometimes things happen and my beta readers have been busy of late - though I still thank them immensely for letting me bounce thoughts and ideas off them, too. Part seven of a 2018 Camp NaNoWriMo Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Elementshipping novel. Based on rp’s between myself ( @getyouraoion ) and my amazing, precious Twin’s Jaden ( @kiibx ), By The Pulse Of A Heartbeat tells the story of how Aoi and Jaden met at Duel Academy and formed their incredibly tight friendship, eventually falling into a relationship, and how they handle the various threats thrown at them over their three years of schooling.

It’s time to put their skills where their mouths are and find out!

By the time Aoi returned to her dorm room, curfew had long since come and gone. Honestly, she hadn't even known they had a curfew until Banner had stuck his head into Jaden's room to point it out, kind enough to not get angry at them for breaking a dorm rule, though still stern enough to remind them they were breaking it regardless. How were they supposed to know being in each others' room between 10:30 at night and 6 in the morning was off limits? She'd never cared about it before, let alone had a male friend!

Though she'd not expected her roommates to still be up, an attempt to quietly slip into her room bringing a stare of blue and grey from the top bunk. A stare that made her jump once she'd turned around, the two boy-crazy duelists reminding her more of lions stalking their prey than actual teenage girls with the way the peered at her from the edge of Kassidy's bunk. “You're back late. Did you find something interesting to do?”

“...Kindda.” She wasn't about to tell them of her new friendship with Jaden or the fact she'd spent the day with him, tucking her binder under her arm as she reached down to undo the straps on her boots and kick them off. The last thing he needed was the two of them all over him like white on rice! “Had a duel, went f' a walk. It's nice out here – Quiet an' got some good scenery.”

“With your cards?”

She glanced down to the binder in question. Not a bit of it was a lie; she had dueled Jaden, and they had gone for a walk after dinner, mostly just circling around the dorm while chatting They'd just gone back to his room to talk and play a game afterwards while his roommates were still out, enjoying the afternoon and evening to themselves. Of course, between Syrus and their other roommate, Chumley, returning and Banner's reminder of curfew, she'd been uneasy enough to leave.. But at least it'd been fun, right?

Stepping around the corner, Aoi tugged open the door to their closet, drawer following so she could slide the thick and stuffed book into it. With her bunk in the middle, she didn't exactly have an 'under the bed' to keep her collection, and under her pillow just made it lumpy. “S' what? I dueled a friend. We traded.” That was a lie.

And it was a lie her roommates picked up on rather quickly, sharing a glance before Mia sat up, giving her a better look at the curlers in her auburn hair. “A male friend? Because I'm not seeing new cards. I'm seeing a glow- you're happy. Something more happened.”

The matter-of-fact tone had Aoi fighting the urge to roll her eyes. “I told y', I dueled a friend an' traded some cards.”

“Male friend.”

“Mia. Includin' us, there's six girls in this dorm. Dunno how many in Ra, an' dozens in Obelisk. Kindda goes without sayin' it's a boy.” Sighing she shrugged out of her vest and grabbed a hanger to slide it onto. “An' n', I'm n' introducin' y'.”

That was the breaking point, it seemed, a huff following her refusal. Honestly, what was it with these two and wanting dates? “Hey... What kindda decks y' two play, anyway? Y' never talk 'bout classes.” It was always boys and makeup, and while she could stand the makeup talk, they were in a school for duelists. They hadn't needed to enroll if all they wanted was a date with a student.

“Prince charming,” came Kassidy's reply a second later, the blonde rolling onto her back and lifting a hand to examine her nails. If there was one thing she'd learned, it was that Kassidy was practically obsessed with her nails, changing their polish and design every few days and constantly admiring it while checking for chips and scuffs. This had to be the thousandth time since they'd arrived days earlier, though Aoi bit the tip of her tongue and tugged her shirt up and over her head, instead, swapping it out for the pale pink tanktop draped over the edge of her bunk.

By the time she'd switched from capris to shorts, Kassidy had examined all of two nails, rubbing out an invisible smudge from the third. She loved a good manicure as much as the next girl, but this was ridiculous! “Prince... Charmin'? Really?”

“Frogs.”

Her forehead connected with the edge of her bunk before she could stop herself, the light thud cocking Mia's eyebrow as she made her way down the ladder. “Frogs. Lemme guess- Y' kiss 'em, they're princes? C'mon, we're here t' duel!”

“And what, exactly, do you play that's so much better?” A petite hand reached out in passing, flicking the ends of one pigtail. The action won a small smile at least, her eyes following her roommate until she'd crawled into her own bed.

“Charmers.” She hadn't meant to let the pride she had in her new deck slip out, though to her relief, it wasn't much. Despite her loss to Jaden, she already loved the setup, tugging the belt free of her pants before tossing them aside. Sliding the attached deck case off, she slipped it under her pillow and tossed the belt aside next, briefly watching it sail through the air. “I run charmers. S' much better than frogs.”

One more, Mia huffed, though this time she couldn't see the other girl. Instead, she focused on untying the ribbons in her hair, the silky pink fabric easily slipping free of its bows. Setting each on her deck, she undid the clasp on the back of her matching choker, draping it over the light colored wood. As much as she loved her hairstyle, it felt surprisingly nice to have her hair down, a quick pass of her hairbrush through the raven locks further easing a light headache she'd barely noticed. Maybe the duel after spending yesterday adventuring was a little too much...

“Hand me that stick on my desk.”

“Orange stick, yeah?” Grabbing the small stick in question, Aoi pulled herself up to the top bunk, carefully balancing herself on the edge of Mia's to pass it to Kassidy. “What shade's that polish? Kindda looks like th' night sky.” A rich, deep amethyst shade, it caught the light and sparkled with embedded iridescent glitter, though not obnoxiously so. Every twist and turn of her hand made her nails sparkle more, obscured only by her other hand and the pointed stick she'd started using to clean out the space underneath them.

Without even looking at her, Kassidy rose both brows. “You know what this is called?”

“Mhm. I like getting' m' nails done. Usually did 'em with m' mom, an' nothin' really fancy, b' I d' like getting' spoiled, t'.”

“....Dark Magic. From the LeFaye line. If you want, I could do your nails for you. I'm sure you'd look good with small hearts on them-”

“E-Er... I'm good on that front, thanks.” Dark Magic... She'd have to see if she couldn't find a bottle next time she was in Domino, or at least write about it in her next letter home. For the time being, she was just happy to crawl into her bed, sliding underneath the already mussed blankets to curl up. When had the old mattress gotten so comfortable?

“You can borrow it, then.”

“Thanks. I've got a pretty blue y' might like in return.”

“You know who likes blue? Aki.”

Mia's chirp from bellow normally would've startled her, coming out of completely nowhere, though she was thankful for the wave of tiredness crashing into her. Jaden made everything more fun and exciting, but also exhausting; she'd sleep well for the first time since they'd started classes! “Mhm...”

“Aki's in yellow. Why would he like blue?”

“It's his favorite. He's so dreamy, Kas! That voice, those eyes-!”

“Dreamy is that upperclassman out on the pier- Right Aoi? Which one's dreamier?”

Groaning heavily, the raven shoved her head inside her pillow case. She didn't care who was 'dreamier', all she wanted was to sleep before her morning classes! Why did this have to be going on now?!

“See? The third year obelisk boy!”

“Aki!”

“Pillow, why aren't y' soundproof...” Why couldn't she just sleep on the roof-?!

Ask me about my OC!

2: Were they originally well received by the fandom? Or if they’re fandomless, did the RP community take to them right away or was it hard to get attention?

It’s been fairly slow going with Aoi. I’ve had her a fair number of years now (about 5? I think? About as long as I’ve known @blackthvnder), but she’s not one of those muses that stands out from a crowd too much, I don’t think. She’s never gotten the same kind of attention as say, my Seraphina OC over on my main, though just knowing people enjoy her is enough for me. <3

4: How do you get into your OC’s mindset to write for them? How do you find the muse for them?

Music. Seriously. With Aoi being a massive music lover, hitting play on something helps a lot when it comes time to do replies. Also watching GX. XD She’s a pretty active muse already, so it normally doesn’t take much.

6: What is your OC’s family situation? Do they get along? Do they fight? Or are they alone?

Aoi has a mother, father, aunt, uncle, and cousin back in Domino. While she’s not particularly close to her extended family, persay, she’s incredibly close to her parents. They get along amazingly, and her parents even send her a monthly ‘care package’ while she’s away at Duel Academy. She goes as far, even, as to bring her friends home to meet them during the field trip to Domino in their second year.

So I mean... I gues you could say she’s alone, being at the academy? But even there she sees her friends as family, too, so?

8: What does your OC look for in a significant other? Are they looking at all?

SHe’s not really looking at all, really. The thought of love doesn’t cross her mind until... Honestly, until she’s confronted with it? When that happens varies - For example, she realizes it with Aster fairly early on, because he’s pretty flirty with her and she recognizes it faster because of it, but with Jaden it takes a lot longer, and even then she tries her hardest to think of it as anything but and deny it until it hits her it’s really love. She’s likely been in love for a while at that point, but not noticed.

As for what she’s looking for, someone who can handle her. Who’s fun and knows how to have a good time, but can handle having a hyper Aoi on their hands and keep her out of trouble as easily as she can get into it. Who smiles and likes to joke and still be grounded.

10: How do they deal with strangers?

Not. Well. XD Aoi is pretty cautious with strangers, throwing up a defensive shell and trying to keep them at arm’s length. She gets defensive and quiet, and will stay that way until she’s sure said stranger can be trusted. This only gets ‘worse’ the longer she knows Jaden - the more trouble they get into, the more she keeps an eye out and mistrusts anyone trying to get close to him right off the bat. This is doubled with men; she’s even more defensive and won’t even get near them, let alone let them touch her unless she trusts them.

Having been born and raised in Domino, she got pretty used to tourists and being called on to play ‘tour guide’ for those interested in the different sites and such of Yugi’s ‘adventures’. Aoi thinks her dislike of strangers comes from this, but in all honesty, nobody’s really sure why.

12: What scent calms them? Reminds them of home or something soothing?

Wood and wood dust. When she was a kid, her father dabbled in woodworking, making various figures and decorations and such, including the little pig toy that was her favorite as a child and got her into her love of the animal. As she grew up, work got more demanding on him, and he lost the time to mess around with it, but the scent will always remind her of home and her dad.

14: Pet peeves. Tell us what would really tick them off. Do they have a Berserk Button?

Unless your name is Jaden, poking at her repeatedly. Ignoring her boundaries and getting too close, too fast. Being a snarky, sarcastic jerk (and not be named Aster or Chazz). Being like her roommates, who push the topics of love, dating, and romance despite her being uncomfortable. Be just about any of the enemies they’ve had to face, or come after her friends. It’s pretty easy to tick her off like that, honestly.

But if you really want to see her break and attack, really, really push her buttons. Insult her friends and make it sound like you’re gonna hurt them. Actually do hurt them, and you’re gonna get her on you in a heartbeat. Above all else, threaten or hurt Jaden, and she won’t hesitate.

16: What are concepts they value? Virtues? What do they look down upon?

Family and friendship, definitely. Truth, honesty, loyalty, respect, freedom... Likewise she looks down on dishonesty, lying, willingness to harm others, corrupted

18: Do they have a guilty conscience? Why? Did they ever do something they totally regretted?

Sometimes, yes. Things can eat at her if she does them consciously; large lies can eat at her as much as stealing something until she finally breaks down. Even if she lies to save someone’s feelings (Ala “No, I didn’t see ____ today” when asked to spare them the pain of knowing she had and they’d had nasty things to say about them, for example), it’ll eventually wear her down until she confesses it to someone and talks it out.

As for something she’s totally regretted... There’s a few things, but not many of them are very big, and might be a bit silly, like breaking her cousin’s toy as a child and claiming his dog did it. Perhaps the biggest ones are still somewhat silly- She regrets not trying harder to talk Jaden out of some of the threats he’d taken on (The shadow riders, Sartorius, etc), and to some extent, the choices she made while looking for Jesse/Johan. She’ll also never get past slapping Aster when she found out why he was on the island, either.

20: What are Tropes you associate with your muse?

Big eater kindda applies, considering the sheer amount of junk food and candy she inhales during study sessions. Book dumb, somewhere probably in a tossup between Nice Girl and Jerk with a heart of gold (because of how she is with strangers/men in general she doesn’t trust/people that anger her), Best Friend (At least until a ship happens? Though really still applies-), go through me (her sacrifice to protect Jaden from Yubel, which.. Er... Let’s just say it backfires).... Love Interest (and possibly implied love interest?) applies with ships.

22: If given a million dollars, what would your OC do?

Probably start up a clothing line (if she gets it before she actually does so), pay off her family’s bills, renovate the Slifer Red dorm (even if she loves it the way it is, even she can’t deny it needs some upgrades), donate some of it to charity and the orphanage Aster funds, and use what remains to spoil her friends. She’d use a little of it on herself, though not much, honestly.

24: Have you ever gotten anon hate because of your OC?

No. Well.. I’ve gotten two nasty messages recently, but they weren’t because of Aoi, more like.. Because of something else pertaining to her. Not sure they could count as anon hate, tho.

☠ : Are there any recent/daily thoughts they have about death or dying?

Not really? Granted as things progress in the academy, she might get a couple of thoughts about dying (Considering nearly everyone dies when Yubel’s trying to get at Jaden), but for the most part she doesn’t give much thought to it.

☯ : Do they believe for every darkness there is a lightness? If not, why?

She does, but at first it’s not something she gave much thought to. The first couple of years she was in the academy, she firmly believed that for everything negative that happened, something good would come after, but she never really dweled on it. But after the events with Yubel, her views started to change; she became a light to counteract a darkness: Jaden. She made herself into his good thing, his companion and partner and refused to leave his side, even when he’s distant. She really, truly believes in there being a light for every darkness by that point, and swears by it.

♥ : Name one thing about the way their emotions work that they despise.

The fact she can’t control herself too well around boys, Chazz and Jaden aside. It’s not even for any huge reason, she’s just awkward around them and she hates that. So far, only Jaden and Chazz have managed to get past those walls, and only Jaden is close enough to actually touch her without her turning into a prickly, flustered mess, which just proves it can be overcome~

☆ : Would they ever wish upon a falling star? If so, what would they wish?

For peace… And to ace her next field exam. XD Actually, her first wish would be a selfless one: For him to keep smiling and ace his exams. She’d follow with something more selfish.

☁ : Describe how they would spend a stormy, overcast/rainy day.

Depends on who she’s with, really. If she’s on her own or stuck with her (actual XD) roommates, she’s bound to either just stay in bed, read a good action novel, or just putter about her room doing something small and random until she gets bored enough to stare out the window.

If she’s with a friend, things are totally different; she’ll make everything bright and happy inside, come up with a bunch of games to play, make something up, tell stories - And if she’s hiding out with Jaden you best be sure they’re either dueling, talking, messing around, or snoozing. XD

☂ : Storms or clear skies?

Clear skies, but she likes storms, too. They make her sleepy.

εжз : What about nature do they find calming? What about nature do they find disagreeable?

Thunderstorms are soothing to her and make her sleepy, but really strong storms are a no go. She likes the sea, too, and rives; anywhere she can listen to the water flow, and anything she can climb. She’s also pretty against raging rivers (Less listening to water, more ‘Don’t touch that it’ll sweep you away’ worries), really overgrown, bug-infested areas, and crickets. Especially in the summer, when they’re at their loudest.

☎ : List three or more people they would call out for during an emergency.

Jaden, her parents, Chazz. Neku and her parents in her TWEWY verse. SHe’s… Really got nobody else.

☛ : What is their typical response to being given orders?

Another depends, who’s giving them to her? In the case of a hated teacher *coughCrowlercough* she’s more likely to snark right back and turn into the most prickly of porcupines. If it’s a teacher likes/is neutral towards, then it really depends on the order, where she’ll huff and puff over something like “Scrub the corm from top to bottom” but willingly accept anything less.. Huge. If the order is coming from a friend, or Jaden late in their academy days, she’s more prone to listen and weigh her options before replying, but it still depends then on the order itself - Unreasonable gets a less snarky and prickly comeback, but she’ll still argue, otherwise she’ll just take it.

☢ : Describe a thought or dream that would cause them to have a mental meltdown.

A dream would be coming back home to find her parents gone without a trace, or, god forbid, dead for whatever reason (natural causes or not). A frequent nightmare in her last year at the academy is losing Jay to his darkness and being unable to convince him to break free of it, and always has her waking up in a frantic panic and looking for him, so she can make sure he’s still there and himself.

As for thoughts, thinking of failing her finals at the end of the year can make her crack fairly hard (she so doesn’t want to be held back XD), and losing her friends for whatever reason will shatter her. And if you tell her her family’s in trouble back home.. Nope. You’ve lost her.

✄ : Are there any reasons why they would ever think of self-harm? If so, what are they?

No. She’d never harm herself. The closest thing she’s ever gotten to a thought like that is being willing to sacrifice her everything to keep Jaden safe.

❤ : Describe a physical action that shows complete trust.

Snuggling up to someone. Aoi is fairly affectionate to begin with with her friends, and walking around with her hugging your arm or hip-bumping a friend is pretty normal. But with the people she trusts completely, with everything in her, she’s the most affectionate and will snuggle up to them, be them male or female, leaning against them and allowing them to do as they please to her. Her guard is dropped completely. In Jaden’s case, she’ll even lay on him, sleep on his shoulder, what have you - She’s showing herself, allowing them to see her completely unguarded.

❥ : Describe a verbal way they would express complete trust.

By saying it, for one, but she also starts divulging secrets. Crushes, things about her family, childhood memories - all things she wouldn’t just tell anyone. She’ll even relax with them and can go from bubbly, bright, and perky, to more calm and sweet, and right back.

✗ : Explain how they portray feelings of hostility or dislike.

This is a fairly common thing for her to show, actually. Depending on the level of hostility and dislike, she can go from just being a snarky, prickly porcupine who can be highly sarcastic and snappy and do everything you tell her not to do, to flat out wanting to punch you in the face and actually trying to. The worst she’s been is in her Darurura!! verse, where she actively tries to smash Izaya’s face into a cinderblock at every given opportunity.

⊗ : What is something that causes them to question themself?

Being questioned herself, for one. If you seriously question her and her morals/ideals/anything with some real conviction behind it, she might snark at you… But after a few minutes she’ll start to really question herself, and put some real thought into it.

For another thing, having things brought up in an argument she’s losing. Jaden after the events with Yubel snapping at her and arguing over her staying beside him will inevitebly make her stop and think and question herself. She’s gonna stand by him anyway though.

☾ : On a sleepless night, what would they be found doing?

If rolling around and huffing at the wall isn’t helping, she’ll usually try to do something to distract herself. This generally amounts to checking messages on her PDA, reading, flipping through her deck, thinking up new strategies- I she’s not already in his room, she’ll go to Jaden and see if he’s having trouble sleeping, too (he’s usually out cold XD) and curl up beside him. If that STILL doesn’t work, she’ll stick her head under a pillow and whine.

☤ : Is there anything about their health they are continuously on edge about? Something they disregard?

She’s alergic to papaya, and while she normally wouldn’t give much thought to it, the academy is on a practically tropical island. Papaya can sneak in to just about anything, so she’s always on alert for it. Otherwise, she’s only prone to sneezing fits when there’s a lot of pollen, but she’s not really alergic to it, just sensitive.

✓ : Name at least two people who can trust them with their life.

Jaden and Chazz. Chazz might not admit it (nor would she admit it for him, really), but their friendship is close enough that she’d go to bat for him without hesitation, and he knows it.

❣: Describe a way that will earn affection (whether platonic or romantic) from them.

Be there for her. Be friendly with her. Be kind. Help her with things. Let her get close to you on her own time (Or just be Jaden) and she’ll end up as an affectionate and bubbly friend. If you’re looking for romantic affection, again just be Jaden then don’t push away her platonic affections and let her see who you really are. Let her in and let her see who you are at your core. Trust her.

✖ : Describe a way to make them uneasy or apprehensive.

Be a male. XD No seriously- Aside from Jaden and Chazz, Aoi does not do well with men in general. They make her flustered and uneasy, and she won’t let them physically close to her. Also coming at her with a wicked grin, acting like you’re going to hurt her or her friends, actually hurt her friends, insult/taunt/tease (in ways that really AREN’T friendly jabs) her, or just generally be a jerk and come at her in the most unfriendly way possible. She’s bound to slap you senseless.

♆ : Are they prone to violent outbursts or thoughts?

Not unless you really push her buttons. Izaya in her Darurura!! verse is a special case; he’s always trying to push her into snapping, worming his way into her head and under her skin until all she wants to do is make him shut up… And if that involves hitting him in the face with a cinderblock then so be it. Otherwise, she’s pretty good at keeping this at a snarky teen level - but she will push your buttons HARD in return.

✏ : What are their creative outlets?

Dueling, doodling, coming up with games to play with her friends, harmless pranks on people…

✉ : Do they tend to rely on words or actions more?

Both. When you can’t make a move, a word can mean a lot, and usually she can react based on the emotion and tone put into it, given the situation and person speaking (”I hate you” from Chazz in the middle of a tag duel is going to be taken as encouragement and reminding her to play better, even if he snaps it, because she knows him too well). But when words are useless, actions certainly speak louder than them.

♡ : Is there a certain scent that brings about nostalgia? If so, describe a memory this scent brings back.

The smell of sawdust. When she was a kid, her father would mess around with woodcarving and woodworking, and she’d often sneak in to watch him. He’d show her things and sit her on his lap while he carved, but by the time she was 8, had to give it up when work and life got too demanding. The mere smell of sawdust makes her remember sitting on his lap and watching him work a bit of wood into some kind of figure, and she misses those days.

۞: Are there any inner demons they can never seem to get rid of? What are they?

She has one that tells her rather often “You’re useless” and usually rears its head around exam time. No matter what she does, she’s not at her best because of it. Her ‘Slifer Slacker’ mentality surprisingly has nothing to do with this, though - she’s just a dork who hates homework. XD

Unusual questions for muses!

🍼- Would your muse raise an abandoned orphan they found or opt to relocate them to an orphanage instead?

Raise them herself. Sera had an unhappy childhood, no matter the verse you’re looking at, and for a long time she wanted to prove to her family she could raise a child right, if she ever had one, and show them how they raised her was one of the worst ways it could be done. But the more she grew up, the older she got, and the more she interacted with children, the more she just wanted a child of her own someday - she loves kids, and if she can make a difference in one’s life, she totally would.

That’s actually one of her driving forces behind adopting Yuma in her Zexal verse. He might’ve been fine being home alone while the rest of his family was away, but she wasn’t; the more she got to know Yuma, the more she fell in love with him, and the more she wanted to help him reach his dreams and grow up happy and loved. That resulted in them bonding as family and her adopting him, and he’s made her life just as bright and happy as she hopes she’s made his.

⭐️- What’s their favorite constellation in the night sky?

She likes the dippers and the bears, both big and small, because they’re easy to spot and constantly remind her of the north star, should she ever get lost. She also thinks bear cubs are cute, so sue her- XD

🔖- When they shop, does the price or product matter more?

Product. Having spent the majority of her life poor, Sera knows a cheap product can be just as good, if not better, than a more expensive one. That doesn’t mean she’s not bound to spend an entire paycheck on Yuma in one sitting; she loves spoiling the ones she loves, though within reason (Sorry Yuma, she’s not splurging on ten new games at once unless it’s your birthday. XD), but she’s still going to go for the product she knows is reliable and going to last a long time over the one that has the bigger price tag.

🐶- If your muse was forced to get a pet, what would they get?

I think the question is more what WOULDN’T she get? XD She and Yuma don’t have a very bog home to begin with, so she’d probably go with something small, really- a hamster, gerbil, small/medium sized dog, cat- Something that could move around the house and interact with them, but not take up a ton of space. She might even be persuaded into a bird or a rabbit, provided Yuma agrees to help keep on top of food, water, and care.

💐- What are their favorite flowers?

Believe it or not, Aoi has a thing for morning glories, lilacs, and hydrangeas. To a lesser degree, she likes azaleas and sunflowers, too~

👒- If your muse were to take someone on a first date, where would they go and how would they behave?

Depends on how long she’s known them, and how well she knows them. Someone like Chazz she might just treat to a meal - He’s hard for her to figure out, and she knows he comes from a wealthy family, so she draws a total blank on what they could do that he’d actually enjoy.

But Jaden… Jaden she knows. A nice dinner, maybe get them into Ra Yellow’s cafeteria somehow or something nice out for a picnic, maybe a duel - god knows he’d never pass up a duel - and then settle down on the beach to talk and stargaze, enjoy the peace and quiet and each other’s company. A lot of it would be her completely winging it, tho - she might know him really well, but she’d still want him to be happy and comfortable and judge thing based on how he’s acting and what he’s in the mood for. Naturally tho, she’ll still be a bit flustered and tongue tied until he gets her to relax~ Even if hey end up just hiding out in his room, leaning against each other and talking like they usually do, she’ll be happy because it’s with him.

🍳- What does your muse’s typical breakfast, lunch, and dinner look like after their larder has been fully replenished?

This depends heavily on when you’re looking. If she’s still in the academy, she eats whatever’s served up in the Slifer Red cafeteria for meals, but she keeps a pretty broad selection of snacks and junk food hidden in her dorm room, Jaden’s, and, unbeknownst to him, Chazz’s. She gets a ‘care package’ from home once to twice a month, and in it her parents always include snack food, especially after she wrote them and told them how she and Jaden (and his roommates) usually inhale them during study sessions. These snacks range from the typical bags of chips to things like trail mix, wasabi peas, various soft and hard candies, chocolates, and even a small container of homemade cookies.

Once she graduates and she’s back home/on her own with Jaden (because let’s be real, dating by then or not, he’s always got permission to crash with her), she’s a fairly decent cook. She’s good with eggs, so there’s usually an egg dish in the morning (poached, scrambled, over easy, hard boiled, omurice, etc, etc), and lunch tends to be whatever she can get her hands on, which when she’s home that ranges from a simple ham sandwich to something elaborate as home made fried rice. Dinner is a bit bigger and more filling, though, and she takes care to make sure there’s at least two courses (appetizer and main dish) with at least one of them being healthy. So there’s something like a chef salad and chicken tenders with broccoli, if she can afford a steak she might go for tat, sweet and sour pork- They’re mostly meals she can have done in 30 to 45 minutes, so half the time they’re box meals (think hamburger helper) xD

🙊- How good are they at keeping secrets?

Surprisingly, despite Aoi’s ability to prattle on about everything under the sun when she’s on an enjoyable topic (and sugar rush XD), she’s pretty good at keeping secrets, even when she’s not asked to. Jaden’s told her about seeing/hearing Winged Kuriboh, and she’s not told a soul; Chazz’s brothers being jerks and who specifically they are she keeps a secret, even though just about everyone knows this already; she knows what’s in Jaden’s deck for the most part and won’t talk about it with anyone but him- if it seems like something she should keep under wraps, she does, and won’t talk about it until given the all clear or someone else (usually Jay or Chazz) does with her nearby. Unfortunately, she’s not as hush-hush with many of her OWN secrets, and can be rather obvious with them - like Chazz knowing how she feels about Jaden when even he doesn’t. For the most part, tho, the girl’s a secret vault~
