Good morning, @writerbuddha. The other day, I saw some critics saying that there is a tone problem with The Phantom Menace. That it doesn't make sense for a film to be very childish and at another time to have a serious political plot. In my opinion, I don't see any problem. The film's political plot is simple and not at all complicated. There are few political discussions and most of them are in the second half of Act 2, which is usually the low point of the characters' arcs. However, I would like to know your take on this topic.

Problem is that, in my view, the “criticism” of Episode I, II and III is the textbook example of groupthink. People don’t think about whether the “criticism” is valid, they don’t apply critical reasoning to these claims - it’s not the detailed analysis and assessment of a movie. I’ve met people who simply claimed, “the majority of fandom thinks this/that, so it’s plausible to believe it’s true.” And YouTubers who want likes and views are keeping this circulating, because I saw one of them explicitly stating, “tongue in cheek spite” makes you popular on YouTube quickly, whereas actual, reasoned and balanced analysis and assessment of a movie does not sell that well.
In my opinion, Episode I is not “childish.” I assume, people who say it's "very childish" are complaining about Jar Jar Binks - again. And possible believe that children are dumb and kids’ movies are meant to be infantile fun that occupies them for some time while you can finally get a break from them. For these people, serious lessons on democracy, society and politics cannot co-exist with Jar Jar Binks, and that's because, in my opinion, they refuse to acknowledge that there's a type of children's stories that are offering very complex moral, ethical, philosophical and psychological lessons and anchors that are relevant throughout one's entire life. They're mostly metaphors and allegories, presenting those lessons on a very abstract level, and you can make use of them in concrete situations. They're essentially the same stories and they fulfill the same role and function as the stories you can find in ancient mythology and in religious scriptures, in modern settings.
The political setting is very easy to understand: the governing body of the Galactic Republic, the Senate is planning to tax the trade routes. The a vast organization of businessmen doesn’t want that, and blockades Naboo as a means of pressuring the Senate. Then, it’s revealed that the traders are following the orders of a Sith Lord, who orders them to invade the planet. Queen Amidala asks the Senate to put an end of the occupation, but, as it turns out, the Senate is full of corrupt senators and the traders are able to pay them off, to stall the resolution of the problem, using bureaucracy. 
Another issue is that many people would insist that if a scene is about two or more people just talking to each other, it’s boring, and if you’re required to pay attention to what the characters say in order to understand the plot, then the plot is “difficult to understand.”  
So, I think that valid criticism of Episode I can be presented, but I'm yet to see one...

Quick Description of An Intentional Switching Method We've Found Helpful: "Musical Chairs"
(this is re: @dinocanid's earlier essay about system dynamics, and challenges with practicing switching when many of the main guides use similar metaphors/frameworks that may not always work for everyone)
Our personal favorite method for intentional switches uses a combination of projection (in the prophantasia sense) and imagined sensory experiences, and leans on having good internal communication. (Projection isn't necessarily required, btw, just something we find useful for this).
We don't really personally ascribe to the "monoconscious vs polyconscious" framework for ourselves personally--it's never really made sense when we try to map it onto our own experience, even though we've tried, and so this particular description won't be using that terminology, and may hopefully be useful to systems who ascribe to any 'consciousness type'. The really short version: "Trade places". Once the to-switch-in headmate is in close co-con, and aware of the body, external world, and their own internal body map, have the currently fronting headmate "stand up"/"step away" from your body and into a projection state, while the to-switch-in headmate "sits down"/"steps into" your body. (longer description below the cut)
The slightly longer version: 1) Let's say headmates Blue and Purple want to switch who's in front. If currently it's Blue; the first step is for Purple to come up to co-con as much as possible, and specifically tune in to awareness of the external world and their IRL body. 2) Next, while keeping a handle on that external awareness, Purple also grounds themself in their awareness of their own internal body map and position in space--we tend to do this via projection, so Purple would use a specific spot IRL as an "anchor" for their sense of self: (say, standing close behind their IRL body, feeling the mental sensation of the body pressed gently against their front, their own posture and internal proprioception, etc). This may be in a 3rd person POV, a 1rst person POV, or a mix of both! 3) Once this state is stable, now it's Blue's turn to take their awareness of their own sense of self, feeling where it is roughly centered around the IRL body's location but/and including any phantom limbs etc that may not fully "line up" with the body's outline. 4) Blue then takes their sense of self and "gets up" from their IRL body--if standing, step forward or to the side or whatever feels natural, if sitting, try "standing up and out" from your IRL body's position in space, so that now you're in a projected state. (Again, this may be in 1rst-person POV or 3rd-person POV or both, whatever works well for you). Then, Purple moves their sense of self forward into the space where Blue used to be--you may want to play around with this and whether it's easier for you to do it sequentially vs simultaneously. 5) Purple then lines up their own internal body map to roughly coincide with their body's IRL outline, and does their best to "reach into" the body's limbs, look through the body's eyes in 1rst-person POV, etc, kind of like putting on a jacket or linking up to an exosuit--feel free to play around with the mental metaphors to find one that feels right to you. 6) While Purple does this, it may be useful for Blue to "let go of some Brain RAM", if possible, so that Purple can use a bigger chunk of active cognitive processing. (If this concept doesn't translate for your particular system, don't worry too much about it).
7) Finally, Purple can start trying out little body movements, letting the motor impulses of their "internal movements" (posture, fidgets, little unconscious motions etc) actually translate out to how their IRL body stands and moves. This may take a few tries, and that's okay--speaking can be especially tricky, since a headmate who hasn't fronted much before likely hasn't figured out "how to make the body make their voice" yet, on a muscle memory level, and may need a bit of practice. Note #1: We personally rely a lot on our internal kinesthetic/tactile sensory "visualizations", so a lot of this guide is written with very kinesthetic language, but other folks may find that focusing on the visual or other senses work better--also, we recommend trying to incorporate multiple 'internal senses' at once if you can. Note #2: We tend to stay mentally chatting back and forth with each other during this process, kind of like having a hand on each other's shoulders while we "swap chairs", so don't feel like you have to be silent or that 'Blue' immediately needs to leave co-con; try it out and see what works well for you. He has a history of making misogynistic jokes and he told one tonight about Caitlin Clark trading in her uniform for an apron (I’m paraphrasing) but it was part of a bit where Caitlin herself came out and called him out on the gross jokes he makes about female athletes and made him look like the fool that he is. She was great!

Until John Major signed, Maastricht treaty in the mid 1990’s we had anchor butter and New Zealand Lamb. These things, and others, disappeared from supermarket shelves and EU produce was prioritised.
After the Lisbon Treaty was signed in 2009 military co-operation with Europe (France) was prioritised, seemingly above UK Commonwealth and NATO links, in terms of funding and development.
The Late Queen and now the King are Head of a realms whose army swears allegiance. It means something, or it should. Our shared history should mean closer, cooperation, and trade and travel. The similarities in our Parliaments and Health Service and peoples should be highlighted with the monarchy as an umbrella or lynchpin. But on none of these things can the king or the late Queen act independently of government. 
A resurgent, China started rolling out the Belt and Road initiative in 2013, directly targeting Commonwealth Realms and Nations. And government moved out of the way to let them because no one saw Brexit coming.
Thing is Sunak’s Windsor framework reverses the closer ties Boris Johnson and Liz Truss were working towards post Brexit which would mean not only enhanced trade but closer military co-operation.
It’s why the King went to Germany as his first state visit not Australia, New Zealand or Canada imho.
The Commonwealth of Nations is different, because there it is predominantly trade I believe, as well as the opportunity for cooperation. And that will continue, although I do not think Prince William will be head of the Commonwealth.  I think there may be a revolving head by then, i.e. the representative from a certain country for certain amount of years.

Thank you for that explanation of what is happening in GB. I always read "the Commonwealth" as "the Commonwealth of Nations", so I will have to remember that other people mean "the Commonwealth Realms" when they say "the Commonwealth".

Instead I see the Commonwealth Realms drawing further and further apart.
China is a concern to me as well.
I also think that after King Charles the position of Head of the Commonwealth will change and not longer be the ruler of Great Britain.

“I am ready for my next assignment,” a beaming Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong had declared at a People’s Action Party (PAP) convention last November.
“I am all in, heart and soul,” he said, adding that he has been working hard to get ready for what would be the “biggest responsibility” of his career – to take over the baton from Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong as Singapore’s next leader.
Now, the assignment has come as Mr Lee announced his retirement on Monday (Apr 15).
Mr Wong will officially take over the leadership reins on May 15, when he becomes Singapore's fourth Prime Minister.
RISE THROUGH THE RANKS
The 51-year-old entered politics in 2011 after being elected as a Member of Parliament in West Coast GRC. He was given his first political office two weeks after the election – as Minister of State for education and defence.
In the 2015 General Election, Mr Wong moved to contest in the new Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC, where he has been anchor minister ever since.
By then, he had risen steadily through the ranks with positions in various ministries, including the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth where he was appointed acting minister in 2012 and made full minister two years later.
After the elections in 2015, he moved to head the Ministry of National Development where he stayed on until July 2020.
In 2020, Mr Wong was tasked to co-chair Singapore’s multi-ministry COVID-19 task force with then-Health Minister Gan Kim Yong.   Together with Mr Gan, and later, new Health Minister Ong Ye Kung, he helmed the country’s pandemic response and fronted key announcements at frequently held press conferences.
Political observers later said that it was Mr Wong’s steady leadership style during COVID-19, clear explanation of policies and grasp of details that put him in pole position to take over as the country’s next leader when Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat took himself out of the running for the top job in April 2021.
Mr Heng, then 60, had cited his age as the reason and that he would have “too short a runway” should he become Prime Minister after the pandemic.
Mr Wong, who was then Education Minister, took over the Finance Ministry from Mr Heng in the ensuing Cabinet reshuffle, providing the first hint of his frontrunner position given how the high-profile finance portfolio has traditionally been helmed by PAP heavyweights.
Questions about political succession were finally laid to rest in April 2022 when Mr Wong was named as the leader of the PAP’s fourth-generation, or 4G, team.   Two months later, he was promoted to Deputy Prime Minister in another Cabinet reshuffle, while holding on to his finance portfolio.
Since cementing his standing as Singapore’s next Prime Minister, Mr Wong has fronted major speeches, such as delivering the keynote speech at the May Day Rally last year in place of Mr Lee.
He has also launched the Forward Singapore exercise, which provided a glimpse of how he and the 4G team intends to take the country forward.
A CIVIL SERVANT AND GUITAR LOVER
Prior to entering politics, Mr Wong was a civil servant for 14 years.
He began his career at the Ministry of Trade and Industry in 1997 before moving on to other roles in the finance and health ministries.
Mr Wong became principal private secretary to the Prime Minister in 2005.
In 2008, he joined the Energy Market Authority as deputy chief executive and was promoted to chief executive in 2009.
Two years later, he stepped down from the post to enter politics as the youngest of five candidates tipped to form the core of the PAP’s 4G leadership.
The Straits Times reported previously that Mr Wong had resigned from the public sector to enter politics, a year short before reaching 15 years of service. Administrative Service officers were eligible for pension after 15 years of service.
“It was a loss, but it was not something that factored into my consideration at the time,” he had said.
On the personal front, Mr Wong grew up in what he described as an “ordinary family” in the Marine Parade HDB estate.
His late father was born in China’s Hainan Island, went to Malaysia as a young boy before moving to Singapore to work in a sales job.
His mother was a teacher. Describing her as a disciplinarian both in school and at home, Mr Wong has spoken highly of his mother in several interviews and public speeches for managing to teach while caring for him and his brother.
Mr Wong is an alumnus of Haig Boys’ Primary where his mother taught. In his teens, he attended Tanjong Katong Secondary School, which he chose because it was near his home, and later on, Victoria Junior College.
He obtained his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. He also holds a master’s in public administration from the Harvard Kennedy School.
Outside of work, Mr Wong, who is married to Ms Loo Tze Lui, is known to be an avid music lover and skilled guitar player.
His love for the guitar goes back to when his father gave him his first guitar at the age of eight. He spent his weekends borrowing guitar books from the old Marine Parade library and when he got a government scholarship to study in the United States, he made sure to bring his guitar along.
Mr Wong has said that playing the guitar helps him to destress and unwind.
The incoming Prime Minister has posted several videos of him strumming his six string, including an acoustic rendition of American pop star Taylor Swift’s hit song Love Story as a tribute to educators on Teachers’ Day last year.

SNOWFALL (2017–2023): Engrossing if often heavy-handed FX crime drama, co-created by John Singleton (with Eric Amadio and Dave Andron): a fictionalized account of how a CIA operation to fund anticommunist Contra death squads in Nicaragua in the 1980s sparked the crack cocaine trade in the U.S., focusing on a bright young Black man named Franklin Saint (Damson Idris), who becomes L.A.'s (fictional) first crack kingpin in increasingly uneasy partnership with twitchy, dweebish white CIA officer Teddy McDonald (Carter Hudson), who will do almost anything to keep the money and guns flowing, with ultimately ruinous consequences for all concerned.
As with any serialized drama lasting six seasons, the pacing is uneven and some plot threads get dropped without resolution, and like Singleton's early films, it can't resist periodically veering into contrivance-laden melodrama (although it's at least less strident than BOYZ N THE HOOD or HIGHER LEARNING). However, it's consistently interesting, anchored by some very strong performances — particularly Idris and Angela Lewis, as Franklin's aunt Lou — and its '80s setting is more convincingly realized than many recent period pieces, with a few nods to the life of Singleton himself, who was a teenager in South L.A. at the time the story takes place. Probably its biggest flaw is that its Latinx characters, even the ongoing ones, are rarely allowed to rise above stereotype (and the most complex Latina character, played by Emily Rios, departs after Season 2), although nearly all the Black characters, who are centered throughout, are refreshingly three-dimensional.
CONTAINS LESBIANS? Franklin's Aunt Lou — one of the show's best characters — is bisexual, and in the early seasons has a difficult, on-again-off-again relationship with a ruthless lesbian club owner (Judith Scott). VERDICT: Doesn't quite live up to its more grandiose ambitions, and the unnecessarily protracted, relentlessly downbeat finale leaves a sour taste, but it's still among the best shows of its genre: BREAKING BAD without the blorbofication, THE WIRE without the paternalistic cop apologism. Note that the final season needs CWs for threats of sexual violence, which are pretty rough.

There’s even a pintle-mounted heavy stubber for any gunner brave enough to clamber up top.
The kit also comes with tons of detail parts, so you can add tool stowage, track links, and other bits and bobs all over the chassis.

what better way to start off this series than with my favorite song from this era ever. the obscurant one-and-done group Knock's "못참겠네" (Moschamgess-ne; I Can't Stand It) is a profoundly strange, groovy banger that's like... you ever hear something and then never stop thinking about it for like, two-plus years? yeah, this is that. it's riding a crazy, pointillistic disco-house flow somewhere between Deavid Soul and Akufen, Cassius trading their vinyl for ROMplers, maximalist microhouse: as skeletal as it is stuffed with little details, spangles and accents, filter sweeps and microsamples. it's things like the molecular reduction of "That's the Way (I Like It)" in the intro, the track snapping into a nocturnal, jazzy hustle, the thumping kick and its accompanying squirrely bassline bending itself into a möbius strip, multiple hard-panned samples jumping out of the mix at the same time, or the digi-horns, space drums, pulses, beeps, whirls, pagers and phones all going off in parallel, and god knows what else (there's a lot more!). and the trio dovetail with and riff on all this racket perfectly, ooh-la-la harmonies colliding with angular co-ed rap geometry, sweetened sing-song into a perfect hook as sassy as it is yearning. and the breakdown after the first chorus is pure madness, a couple bars at a jagged clip and then "it's about that time I put you back on track!" in the center channel and "it's disco time, baby!" out of the left before devolving into gang chants and scream-raps. then it gets itself together and locks back on to that hellacious groove. totally devious.
it's a small thing, too, but I greatly appreciate this song knowing how good its hook is and beating the hell out of it as such. so many hits (and not-hits) of the time just sorta end, you know? here they drop the drums a second, bring them back and then hammer the hook into your brain over and over, layering the intro rap and a bunch more of those laser pulses on top. anyway... this song fuckin' rules so hard. what also fuckin' rules? this song's video!

the MV is so, so, sooooo good. a low-budget urban daydream of 90s street scenes (shout out to Freetel!), passing trains, underpass dance rituals and rain-slicked parking lots, all lit by colorful strobes and fogged-out flood lights, absolutely killer fashion (and at least two killer wigs), crazy fresh dance moves, just a bunch of grooving and messing about with friends on the street corner with a tinge of X-Files and Jet Set Radio, all linked together by an unimpeachable sense of cool. the image of the group just vibing on top of those cars while shrouded in fog and light? simply iconic. the video's mysterious nocturnal energy and heady, kinetic rhythm is the perfect match for the music, and the combination is a revelation.

the rest of Knock's sole album also rules, even if none of the other songs quite rise to the level of revelation that the title track does. every song is a keeper, whether the off-axis G-funk of "YAMMA" and "Bad Girl", the cartoonish lilt of "오리", or the infectious duo of "Miss Miss" and "너 친구맞니?!", which both utilize the structure of a four-on-the-floor hook juxtaposed with a funky syncopated rhythm for the verses. "연습게임" is mystical and subterranean, and even the requisite album-closing ballad "I feel in your eyes" is a jammer: slow-and-low, spare yet lush, unpretentious and memorable. the whole record's united by the same off-kilter soundworld that animates the title track—the same ROMpler full of samples bouncing every which way, instruments all over the place, bits and pieces of voice and sound accenting everything, almost like a fourth vocalist. it's full of hooks, microhooks and grooves, all anchored to a mad sense of rhythm and space. all these joints have been stuck in my head for ages, basically! it's always it's the weirdest, galaxy-brain tunes that go nowhere and are doomed to obscurity, ain't it.

bonus fun fact #1: the female rapper with the buzz-cut is named Z-E (지이)—after Knock fizzled out, she linked up with a rapper by the name of Turtleman to form the trio Turtles (거북이), who scored hit after hit until Turtleman's tragic passing in 2008. Turtles were a universally beloved trio, and deservedly so—they also absolutely rule.
bonus fun fact #2 and #3: "못참겠네" (plus "YAMMA" and "Bad Girl") was arranged by one Jegal Min (제갈민), one of the unsung heroes (see also: Shin Young-sub (신영섭)) of the original 1992-1994 "rap dance" craze that was dominated by Seo Taiji, Hyun Jin-young, DEUX and others. like many a failed pop star, he then found far more success in production and management. one of his backup dancers, Kim Jung-nam, later found stardom as half of the legendary Turbo (터보).

She also hosted the highly acclaimed two hour documentary for PBS called The Retirement Revolution, taking a look at the consequences of mass retirement by Baby Boomers, which premiered in the Spring of 2008.
Before joining Discovery, she spent six years at CNN where she anchored American Morning and Paula Zahn Now. Zahn joined the network in September 2001.
