La Muerte is much more one to simply watch the lives of living beings, especially those in which she has wagers.

Her dear HUSBAND on the other hand is much more the type to get involved and meddle in the affairs of man and creatures alike.

The first wager La Muerte and Xibalba ever made, was a wager that Xibalba could win her heart <3 he won.

La Muerte is 12′ (aprox 3.7m)

Xibalba is slightly taller at 12′6 (aprox 3.8m)

When Xibalba touches a living mortal, that person dies. 

Hence La Muerte smacking his hand when he goes to touch the man in the cemetery and Xibalba responds with “What!? Its his time! More or less” 

This is included in his trivia in his wiki, which makes me think its probably been confirmed on the director’s twitter at some point.
