WOWZA! That was some week! Although, we’re back in NYC the buzz from ADE is still in full effect. We bring you some highlights from this year’s record-breaking

The 23rd edition of the Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) has come to an end in the early hours of Monday morning. For the first time ADE welcomed over 400,000 visitors from more than 100 countries for an extensive day and night program featuring over 1000 events and leading artists and speakers from around the world. From 17 to 21 October there were more than 450 night and 600 daytime events spread over 200 locations, with over 2500 performing artists and around 600 speakers participating in keynotes, workshops and master classes on a variety of topics. The conference and festival program by day saw an increase in numbers attending with daytime activities exceeding more than 600. ADE General Manager Richard Zijlma looks back on a ‘fantastic edition.’ This was the last edition under his supervision, with new director Mariana Sanchotene taking over.

A major focus was the anniversary of 30 years of Dutch Dance. Celebrations included the premiere of a three-part VPRO documentary and the launch/presentation of a reference book featuring the scene’s leading lights. South Korea was the focus country this year, consequently much attention was paid to the rapidly growing South Korean music scene. Several conference and festival events illustrated that musically and culturally South Korea has a lot to offer the rest of the world. Other countries highlighted as one to watch were Australia, Belgium, Brazil, China, Columbia and Mexico, with special industry network sessions and a growing number of artists performing in the day- and night-time program.

A Growing Cultural Destination The Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) has grown into a five-day poly-cultural event hosting more than 2500 music artists across all participating clubs and concert halls. Undoubtedly the biggest electronic music conference in the world, ADE hosted a myriad of events from countless panels discussions at the main conference through to pop-up performances, audiovisual installations, film screenings, tech schools and charity events. Some of the diverse and exciting speakers involved in this year’s conference program included; Albert van Abbe, Bonobo, Bruce Carbone, David Guetta, Headhunterz, Imogen Heap, Jayda G, Jean Michel Jarre, Jillionaire, Kerry Trainor, Lena Willikens, Nile Rodgers, Orbital, Paula Temple, Ralph Echemendia a.k.a. The Ethical Hacker, Yann Pissenem, Xosar, Zoe Margolis, and more.

Dutch journalist, musician and event organizer Gert van Veen received the Amsterdam Dance Event Lifetime Achievement Award for his enormous and crucial contribution to the dance scene, the city and ADE, only the second person in the history of the event to have received the honor.

Soundfleet Boat Parties Debut at ADE 2018 with Showcases from Goldfish, Guy J + Sasha

A new concept, Soundfleet, will be debuting at Amsterdam Dance Event 2018. Soundfleet is a boat that will be floating around Amsterdam from 8pm – 5am for 5 consecutive nights of showcases during the highly anticipated annual festival. 600 attendees will be able to experience the city and skyline in this unique way on a boat cruise. 3 out of the 5 nights have been scheduled with Guy J’s Lost & Found, Sasha’s Last Night On Earth, and Goldfish’s Submerged with more events to be announced as we close in on ADE 2018.

First up at the debut of Soundfleet on Thursday, October 18 is the Lost & Found showcase. Guy J will be delivering an extended set with support by Lost & Found family members Guy Manthzur and Khen. Tickets are still available here for Lost & Found’s showcase on Soundfleet!

The following night on Friday, October 19, Sasha will be hosting his Last Night On Earth ADE debut showcase. Sasha, who is no stranger to boat parties, will be joined by Spanish guru, Henry Saiz, with techno storytelling from Heidi, and Brooklyn based rising talent BAILE. Tickets unfortunately sold out quickly for this event.

The South African live act, Goldfish aka ‘The Fishies’ as their fans have dubbed them, will be taking over the boat the following night on Saturday, October 21 for their Submerged showcase. Tickets yet again unfortunately sold out quickly for this event.

Gold Star’s financial prospering has led to growth for the company and happy, but ever-greedy executives and investors.

Silhouette

A successful Japanese debut means a further solidified position within the company despite reaching further and further past the point where girl groups usually see their downfall. Lately, the group’s fanbase has been very active and pleased with the company for continuing to support Silhouette’s activities where Gold Star’s competition has failed to promote their older groups. Gold Star plans to ride this positive feedback to another group comeback before the end of the year.

Aria

Besides some public performances, the group will have early concepts meetings and recordings for their next album, with a hopeful release at the very end of this year or the very beginning of next year. The title track for this album will be a more mature, girl crush concept than most of Aria’s music.

Origin

As their tour begins, they’ll be spending a lot of time overseas. During their tour, they’ll be working on songs for their next album, doing what they can on the road, and doing some recording sessions during brief trips back to Korea. Gold Star has declined most interviews and appearances while the group is on tour, except for a few major publicity events, giving the company’s cash cow at least some time off while they’re traveling. Their managers have been told to encourage the members to keep in touch with fans back home through social media and live streams after some criticism for their short promotion period in Korea. They’ll be back in Seoul and get a break from late September 22 to September 26 in order to celebrate Chuseok at home.

They’ll be filming a short reality web series in September and October following their preparations (particularly the development of their solo songs) leading up to the comeback that will be released online during comeback promotions.

After a more relaxed August schedule, September brings a lot of traveling, with their concert to promote the first half of their seasons series of album at the beginning of the month, and fanmeetings in the middle. They wrap comeback promotions early in the month and investors continue to compare their slowly developing success to Femme Fatale’s immediate one, which has unfortunately been blown even more out of proportion this comeback due to overlapping promotions. Gold Star continues to push building a solid fanbase for the group since they don’t capture the general public in the same way as some other artists under the company. They’ll spend time this month preparing for a Fan Thank You VLive at the month, which will be a largely structured live show with games and activities like part switch and 2x speed dance.

They’ll be hosting their Japanese debut showcase next month and releasing their first Japanese EP (and their first EP at all, even though it’s simply Japanese versions of their already released songs) the month after, so extra Japanese classes and practice will take up their time after ending music show promotions toward the end of the month.

Tornato da poco da Amsterdam, dove ha raccontato l'Amsterdam Dance Event per AllaDiscoteca, Mitch B., dj producer romagnolo attivo in tutta Italia, a metà novembre 2023 non si ferma di certo.

Il suo nuovo singolo è "Olodum", prodotto con Relight Orchestra, Mato Locos e Sundown Loverz. Ecco come lo presenta un artista in forte crescita internazionale. "Abbiamo unito le forze per creare questa traccia dal sapore festoso, in vista del Capodanno. E' un brano che ha sonorità ispirate al Brasile. Il groove è house e il resto fa decisamente ballare", spiega Mitch B."In molti usano questo nuovo termine/genere che è 'latin tech', che secondo me è il giusto aggettivo. Ci sono delle chitarre create con grande cura... ed un ritornello che ti porta subito a cantare", racconta ancora Mitch B.

La traccia, distribuita da Jango Records è in preview su YouTube ed uscirà in esclusiva su Beatport l'8 dicembre. Sarà anche inclusa nella compilation natalizia "This Is Top" di Dj Marietto. Già definiti anche alcuni appuntamenti a dicembre, come sempre in tutta Italia: il 2 ed il 23 dicembre Mitch B. fa scatenare il White Beach di Cervia (Ravenna). Il 5 dicembre è a Roma, dove oggi risiede al Seen. Il 22 invece è a Milano, all'esclusiva Terrazza Aperol, in Piazza Duomo. Infine, si conferma un Capodanno '24 scatenato per questo artista. E' in Puglia, a Cala Corvino, a Monopoli (Puglia).

Porta da anni il suo sound in alcuni dei più importanti club e locali d'Italia e non solo. La sua musica la pubblica su label internazionali come la francese Jango e spesso si esibisce anche all'estero. Dove? ad esempio al Warehouse di Nantes (secondo locale francese nella classifica DJ Mag UK), all'Hollywood Vip Room e allo Zazada di Patong in Thailandia. A Ibiza invece si è esibito, oltre che al Pacha, anche al Pacha Hotel, al Dunes, al Bora Bora, al Destino e al Mechero Camp. A Formentera al Pineta e al Beso Beach, in Olanda durante l'Amsterdam Dance Event. In Svizzera eccolo invece al Vivai di Saint Moritz.

Non è tutto: Mitch B. è spesso dj guest di prestigiosi party legati a marchi d'eccellenza come Ducati, Shiseido, Jean Louis David, L'Oréal e Technogym. Miglior Resident DJ ai Dance Music Awards 2018, si tiene sempre aggiornato. Solo nel 2022, ad esempio, ha frequentato la Pete Tong Dj Academy e la Ibiza Talents Academy.

Grote spelers uit het werkveld

MOJO

‘’Wie van muziek en spektakel houdt, is op een evenement van MOJO geweest. Of gaat daar binnenkort heen.’’

Een grote speler in het organiseren van evenementen in Nederland is Mojo. Een organisatie die jaarlijks meer dan 150 shows per jaar, waar zo’n 2 miljoen mensen een kaartje voor kopen. Ook behoren een aantal grote festivals bij de MOJO-familie, hier kunt u denken aan bijvoorbeeld Lowlands, Down The Rabbit Hole, We Are Electric en WOO HAH!

Maar ook wordt er binnen het bedrijf af en toe iets geregeld voor Symphonica in Rosso en Cirque Du Soleil. Met deze namen, kan je je voorstellen dat het een van de eerste namen zal zijn waar iemand aan zou denken bij het werkveld event!

Amsterdam Dance Event

‘’The leading conference & festival for electronic music’’

Een van de grootste muziekevenementen die ons land kent. Met meer dan 2,500 artiesten die optredens geven op meer dan 140 locaties in de stad Amsterdam, waar in het jaar 2018 meer dan 400.000 mensen, vanuit de hele wereld, op het evenement afkwamen.

Amsterdam Dance Event is een week gevuld met niet alleen goede feesten met bekende dj’s, maar er wordt geprogrammeerd op kunst, fotografie, film en theater. Doordat ze een breed aanbod hebben van (elektronische) muziek, maar ook andere kunsten, wordt het als 1 van de grootste spelers in het werkveld gezien.

ID&T

‘’We were the first to bring dance music to the masses, and our example has been leading the industry ever since.’’

Na het bespreken van Amsterdam Dance Event kan ID&T niet ontbreken. Zij waren namelijk eerst de organisatoren van Amsterdam Dance Event, waarna het een eigen stichting heeft gekregen. Maar ID&T is, zoals ze het zelf ook omschrijven, de eerste die dance-muziek naar de massa’s brachten en daar het voorbeeld in hebben genomen. Hoewel ze tegenwoordig ADE niet meer in handen hebben; staan ze nog in de geschiedenisboeken voor feesten als: Thunderdome, Defcon, Vunzige Deuntjes en Awakenings! Met al deze namen kan ID&T zeker niet ontbreken op deze lijst!

Grote spelers de Nederlandse Muziekwereld

Deze blog wil ik graag besteden aan een paar belangrijke spelers voor Nederland in het Muziek werkveld namelijk: ADE, ESNS, en Popronde.

Eurosonic Noorderslag

Elk jaar wordt er in januari een van de belangrijkste events voor de muziekindustrie in ons lieve Groningen gehouden: ESNS! Van over de hele wereld komen mensen om dit event te bezoeken, want dit is het moment om te netwerken en kennis uit te wisselen of te genieten van (bijna) ontdekte-bandjes met potentie. Deze opkomende bandjes breken vaak (internationaal) door na op ESNS gespeeld te hebben. Het Showcasefestival duurt 4 dagen lang en zal conferenties aanbieden, een goede line up en een zullen er een aantal awards uitgereikt worden, waaronder de Popprijs die aan de persoon of artiest word gegeven die in het afgelopen jaar de belangrijkste bijdrage heeft geleverd aan de Nederlandse popmuziek. Dus dit niet alleen voor artiesten, managers, scouts en muziekliefhebbers is dit een belangrijk event, maar ook onze economie heeft grote baat bij ESNS. Denk maar eens aan de omzet die wordt gemaakt bij horeca en hotels in Groningen tijdens deze dagen. De economische waarde van het festival is de afgelopen jaren zelfs fors toegenomen: in 2018 4,7 miljoen, wat in 2011 nog 1,7 miljoen was. ESNS kan wel rekenen op een vaste subsidie!

ADE

Een wat mij betreft stijvere, maar vergelijkbare grote speler in het muziek werkveld is Amsterdam Dance Events. ADE is het grootste dance-conferentie ter wereld. Hier ontmoeten dj’s producers, platenlabels en meer. Net als ESNS is dit een plek voor netwerken en het delen van kennis. Internationale DJ’s draaien tijdens het event in verschillende locaties in Amsterdam. De Dance-scene is nog niet heel lang groot maar is voor Nederland inmiddels van grote waarde. In 2020 wordt verwacht dat de exportwaarde op zo’n €150 miljoen uitkomt (ING). Iets minder dan de helft van de Nederlanders is liefhebber van Dance (47%). Vooral onder jongeren is Dance populair: 72% van de jongeren onder de 30 jaar noemt zichzelf een liefhebber van deze muziekstroom. Niet alleen voor de Muziek is er een wereld open gegaan maar ook voor de evenementen. Volgens de Dance Festival Monitor 2017 vinden in Nederland inmiddels meer dan 250 dancefestivals per jaar plaats!

Popronde

Popronde is een reizend showcasefestival. Onbekende bands en artiesten krijgen de kans om zich te presenteren in ongeveer 40 steden door Nederland heen. Een podium kan op veel verschillende plekken door de stad heen zijn: van cafés tot platenzaken, van kerk tot galerie. Daarnaast is er voor de bezoeker 1 groot voordeel, want de optredens zijn gratis te bezoeken. Net als ADE en ESNS is het een festival bedoeld om de artiesten een zetje in de rug te geven, bij popronde krijgen zij de kans om zich buiten hun eigen regio ook op de markt te zetten. Ik vind popronde een belangrijk festival voor het muziek werkveld binnen Nederland omdat het artiesten in het licht zet die de nog niet aanwezige tools hebben om zich zelf te presenteren. Daarnaast is het die ene avond in de stad een gezelligheidsfactor, die mensen verbind. Zelf krijg ik op het festival bijna adrenaline kick, omdat ik zoveel wil zien. Ik heb er zelfs nieuwe plekken binnen de stad door ontdekt.
