I... I'm still not totally sure about this piece. XD Especially the flowers blooming behind Ammy, super not thrilled with how those turned out, but I really like how Ammy herself turned out, and it was something fun and new I wanted to try... so yeah, not totally sure about it, but sharing anyway. XD

If you haven't already guessed, this is fanart for the fantastic game Okami, featuring the main girl herself, the sun goddess Amaterasu. I've drawn some Okami fanart before, though it's pretty old now. I recently started replaying the game again for the first time in a few years, and man I forgot just how good this game is, it's so so good you guys, and the art style is so pretty and unique, and with the new sequel coming out soon and feeling so excited to see how far they can push the art style with the new technology, I just felt really inspired to try my hand at some art to try and lean into that brush style.

I used a paint tool on my app that I never use, and I used it for the whole thing. I think it worked really well for getting across that painted feel, especially for the lineart on Ammy. It worked fairly well for the clouds and grass as well, I might have to try it for more backgrounds in the future. Like I said above, I'm particularly happy with how Ammy herself came out. This is Ammy in her final form, with her full set of red markings and the extra tuft on her hips, and wearing Solar Flare on her back. She's running across the fields of Nippon, weirdly-drawn flowers blooming in her wake, her sun shining overhead.
