“She was a Dutch soldier who served in the French, Prussian and Dutch armies. During a trip back from Paris to the Netherlands, she dressed as a man, which was common for female travelers to avoid harassment during journeys. During the trip, however, she was arrested by the French military police as a suspected deserter after having failed to provide sufficient identifications papers, and was forcibly enlisted in the French army. She deserted, and instead enlisted in the Prussian army. When she was wounded in the chest, her sex was discovered, and she was forced to leave service. She returned to the Netherlands, and enlisted in the Dutch army. She served in combat during the sieges of Kampen, Coevorden, and Deventer during the War of the Sixth Coalition. In 1814, she was engaged to be married to Alida Landeel, and added the title "Lord of Amerongen" to her name. She was arrested for using a false noble title, but escaped prison. When she was arrested, she was forced to undergo a medical examination, which revealed her sex. She was sentenced to three years in prison for fraud.”

Genuinely 90% of historical fiction would be so much better if more writers could get more comfortable with the fact that to create a good story set in a different time period you do actually have to give the characters beliefs & values which reflect that time period

De Vaanweg dankt zijn naam aan de voormalige boerderij 'De Vaan' aan de Dordtsestraatweg. Het tuindorp werd gebouwd op de landerijen, die bij deze boerderij behoorden. De naam 'De Vaan' is afgeleid van de familie Vaandrager, die vroeger eigenaar van deze boerderij was. Enige tijd heeft de NV Hygiënische Melkstal 'De Vaan' boerderij en bouwland geëxploiteerd. In 1921 werden deze aangekocht door de gemeente Rotterdam. Tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog werd hier in opdracht van de NV Vreewijk Tuindorp De Vaan gebouwd.

De Victor Hugoweg herinnert aan de Franse dichter en prozaschrijver Victor Marie Hugo, 1802-1885.

DRL (De Rotterdamse Leeuw) is een amateurvoetbalvereniging uit Rotterdam.

De vereniging werd op 14 juli 1929 opgericht. De thuiswedstrijden worden op het sportcomplex “De Leeuwenkuil” gespeeld welke gelegen is aan de Spinozaweg in Lombardijen.

De club ontstond in de omgeving van de Tarwewijk onder de naam Rood-Zwart opgericht. De oprichting geschiedde door vijf broederparen: Jan en Willem van Amerongen, Geert en Koos Pleket, Dirk en Willem Smit, Adrie en Piet Tavenier en Henk en Jan Tuinman.

De club sloot zich in eerste instantie aan bij de Nederlandse Arbeiders Sport Bond (NASB). In het eerste jaar werd DRL kampioen en zelfs de sterkste van Zuid-Holland, doch de financiële mogelijkheden om door te gaan voor een kampioenschap van Nederland ontbraken. Per 30 augustus 1930 volgde de overstap naar de Rotterdamsche Voetbalbond (RVB), een ’regionale onderbond’ van de KNVB. Dit ging gepaard met een naamsverandering omdat er al een club met de naam Rood-Zwart lid was van de KNVB. Er werd gekozen voor de De Rotterdamse Leeuw (DRL).
