finally working on my byron character study fic and i’m literally unwell over byron and amelia’s friendship. (their friendship which i mostly made up the details for because we don’t know that much in cannon but STILL)

May I offer a Byron and Amelia (totally not drawn explaining my notes to me what are you talking about) in these trying times.

On August 26, 1852, the frigate Dom Fernando, equipped for Dona Maria Amelia [of Brazil]'s trip, sailed the seas towards the island of Madeira.

The health of the young princess was not very reassuring. Deep emotions preceded her departure from Lisbon. At her insistent request, Queen Dona Maria da Glória [II of Portugal], her sister on her father's side, brought her children to hug their young aunt; sad forebodings hovered over the melancholic family farewells. Tenderly hugging the oldest of the Infantas, Dona Maria Amelia blurted out these words: "It's not true, Maria, you won't forget me?!"

(...) On January 20 [of 1853], she [Maria Amelia] received a very affectionate letter from Queen Dona Maria da Glória, her sister, she was deeply moved and said: "My sister Maria loves me very much; I also love her dearly".

(...) On May 10 in the afternoon, the ship [that carried Maria Amelia's body back to Portugal] anchored in Cascais and parked there until the following day at ten o'clock. Passing through the forts at the entrance to the Tagus, she was greeted by all national and foreign vessels. The first were flagged in black.

Several great court figures had come to the tower of Belém, to meet the Empress [Amélie of Brazil, Maria Amelia's mother], and had climbed aboard. At noon, anchor was dropped in Terreiro do Paço. Delegations from the two Chambers and the municipality came on board and delivered speeches of condolence, to which the Empress responded with tears. A deeper emotion was in store for her: the Queen and the King came too. The Queen cried a lot; as she sprinkled holy water on her young sister's coffin, she certainly did not foresee that she would soon follow.

spoilers for the dolls of new albion under the cut

GENERATION 1 so there’s this lady called annabelle mcallistair who is. well she gets kicked out of medical school for stealing dead bodies. and also she is in love with this guy called jasper and they kissed one time. but jasper is betrothed to someone else and they get married and then 🙀 jasper dies. so annabelle brings him back!! yay!!!! except he Comes Back Wrong so. not yay. anyway so she puts him in the body of a metal doll and takes him around places and she’s very happy bc she finally has a friend!!!!!! something something kate the narrator tells us this is not all good actually All You Love Does Not Love You also btw jasper can’t talk he can only communicate through the music he plays. and he sings a song about how elysium (heaven basiclaly) is really cool and great and he wants to go back Elysium The Place The When Your Sorrows End Why’d You Bring Me Here Again. and annabelle hears and she’s like ok :( i don’t want you to be unhappy so she kills/disassemblesbs/whatever him.

GENERATION 2 annabelle has had a son who’s name is edgar. sadly she dies when edgar is only 10. edgar grows up and has a girlfriend named fay but they break up :( oh well! edgar goes into the attic and finds the trunk where btw annabelle hid jasper’s doll body and also her formulas for raising the dead. i forgot to say that before but Yeah she did that. anyway edgar’s like ooh what’s this and surprise surprise he brings jasper back!!! and jasper is like fucking hell not this again (/j). anyway edgar is like you could make a religion business out of this! so Edgar Starts A Business of bringing people’s dead loved ones back to life and putting them in dolls so they can. have them? idk. anyway edgar is, as it turns out, a bitch, and goes to fay and he’s like. hey fay you remember how your dad died? yeah? well i brought him back lol he’s in my living room. you can talk to him, but only if you date me again :) also btw fay’s dad is jasper. so fay gets back with jasper they get married and……

GENERATION 3 fay and edgar have a son named byron! he inherits the doll, his dear jasper that he loves. also btw edgar is a shit father. by now there’s dolls everywhere and some people namely byron and his friend amelia (who also has a shit father AND DESERVED BETTER.) are like you could make a religion out of this! so they do it’s called voodoopunk and it’s fucking cool their songs are all the best btw. #votevoodoopunk anyway byron is gay and in love with jasper a little bit. um yeah that’s his grandpa it’s messed up. also btw amelia is in love with byron. meanwhile jasper is singing his song about how he wants to be died and amelia hears and she’s like hm this elysium place sounds pretty great. better than here where i’m have a horrible father and also in love with my best friend who is gay. so she kills herself :( and in her suicide note she writes the lyrics to jasper’s song which all the dolls have been singing nonstop. so the general public are like hm. this must be the fault of the dolls that this girl has died. we should make them illegal and burn them all! and jasper is like finally i get to die but not so fast lol bc byron saves him! wahoo.

GENERATION 4 dolls are now sooooo super illegal now btw. being in possession of one is punishable by death of both you and the doll. oh shit! byron is dead now but his daughter priscilla is hiding alone with jasper in the family home!! actually let’s pause the narrative for a minute for a super funky ballad about how new albion was created! a monk and a gambler are arguing about things (god and chance and fate) and to resolve they decide a game of cards indeed be played. anyway they play this card game for literally ages like one of them would have to die for it to end. so as they’re playing this seemingly never ending game of probably uno, around them is built a shelter and then more and more buildings until what do you know? the city of new albion is born! also btw remember when i said one of them would have to die for the game to end? what luck! the gambler has a heart attack or something and dies!! anyway back to jasper and priscilla. they are playing a never ending game of cards to pass the time :)) jasper still wants to die but he doesn’t want to leave priscilla alone or let her die bc she’s the only person he’s ever cared about :( but priscilla doesn’t want jasper to suffer but jasper doesn’t want priscilla to sacrifice herself. um anyway she calls the police on herself and jasper and her get shot :( also there’s a soldier called 24601 or something idk. anyway he doesn’t shoot and everyone is like soldier 7285 you fucking pussy why didn’t you fire. and he didn’t fire bc he realized Hm Maybe This Is Fucked Up. so he decides to do a revolution that will end the police state of new albion.

THE END!!!!!! also important note in the original cast recording there are four actors/singers. 1 singer for kate, 1 singer for jasper (mr paul shapera himself), 1 singer for edgar, byron, and the soldier, and 1 singer for annabelle, fay, amelia, and priscilla.

The Baroque Portuguese Roosters - The Missing Porcelain Collection of Queen Dona Amélia by Daniel Arrhakis (2023)

Dona Maria Amélia (French: Marie Amélie Louise Hélène; 28 September 1865 – 25 October 1951) was the last Queen consort of Portugal as the wife of Carlos I of Portugal.

She was regent of Portugal during the absence of her spouse in 1895.

She was the eldest daughter of Prince Philippe, Count of Paris and Princess Marie Isabelle d'Orléans, and a "Princess of Orléans" by birth.

On 22 May 1886, Amélia married Carlos, Prince Royal of Portugal. He was the eldest son of King Luís I of Portugal and Maria Pia of Savoy.

As queen, however, Amelia played a very important role. With her elegance and cultured character, she influenced the Portuguese court.

Interested in eradicating the evils of the time, such as poverty and tuberculosis, she founded dispensaries, sanatoriums, economic kitchens and daycare centers, thus demonstrating her interest in the well-being of the Portuguese population.

However, his best-known works are the foundations of the Instituto de Socorros a Náufragos (in 1892); the Royal Coach Museum (1905); the Pasteur Institute in Portugal (Instituto Câmara Pestana) and the National Assistance for Tuberculosis.

On 1 February 1908, the royal family returned from the palace of Vila Viçosa to Lisbon. They traveled in the royal train to Barreiro and from there took a boat to cross the Tagus River.

They disembarked at Cais das Colunas in the principal square of downtown Lisbon, the Terreiro do Paço.

On their way to the Palace of Necessidades, while crossing the square and turning to the street, several shots were fired from the crowd by at least two men, among others.

The King died immediately, his heir Prince Dom Luís was mortally wounded and Infante Dom Manuel was hit in the arm, yet Queen Amélie surprisingly unharmed trying to defend her youngest son, the new king Manuel II, with the flower bouquet she kept in her hand.

Her reaction at the time of the regicide was to brandish the bouquet of flowers she was carrying in her hand and shout at one of the regicides to back down, an image that made the covers of newspapers across Europe.

The regicide of 1908 plunged her into deep grief, from which D. Amélia never fully recovered. She then retired to the Palácio da Pena, in Sintra, without ceasing, however, to try to support, by all means, her young son, King D. Manuel II.

Manuel II of Portugal was deposed by a military coup, later known as the 5 October 1910 revolution, which resulted in the establishment of the Portuguese First Republic. Queen Amélie left Portugal with the rest of the royal family, embarks in Ericeira on the yacht Amélia, heading for Gibraltar.

She lived decades of suffering in exile, between England and France. During the Second World War the Portuguese government of Salazar invited her to return to Portugal, but she declined the offer replying “In my misfortune, France welcomed me, I will not abandon her in her misfortune”.

She visited Portugal for the last time in 1945. In 1951 at the time of her death, her last words were “Take me to Portugal”. She is buried in the Bragança pantheon, in São Vicente de Fora.

In the midst of this tragedy, I decided to create a collection of porcelain roosters in her honor. Whether it exists or not will remain in the secret of History and Stories.

In France since ancient times, the rooster has appeared on Gallic coins and it became a symbol of Gaul and the Gauls.

But also in Portugal since the Middle Ages, with emphasis on the medieval legend of the Rooster of Barcelos.

The rooster is also considered the symbol of Portugal, both because of its rusticity, representing our countryside and because it is traditionally associated with positive things and virtues.

You can find it on many facades of secular churches in Portugal.

Queen Dona Amélia had a very special adoration for porcelain roosters and throughout her life in Portugal between the Palaces of Pena and Vila Viçosa, many evenings were spent drawing and painting , like King D. Carlos.

Her roosters drawn and painted by her were later reproduced by great Portuguese ceramists as unique pieces that were then part of her extensive collection and one of Queen Dona Amélia's best kept secrets.

"My Beautiful Baroque Roosters" as she called them were left behind at the Pena Palace, after her departure into exile, with the exception of a few specimens, which she took on the Dona Amélia Yacht on her initial trip to Gibraltar.

With time and the vicissitudes of the revolutionary times of the First Republic, Queen Dona Amélia's collection of Portuguese Baroque Roosters disappeared without a trace, until today when I present you a glimpse into this collection created in dreams...

Each Rooster has the name of a Portuguese municipality or locality.

And for just filling in the roles (each mech gets a role)

Ivy as fay and nastya as amelia (and the others normaly like above)

Also the narrator in dona (Kate) is too nice in comparison with Jonny so i thought that maybe Ivy could maybe fit that role more?

Letter from Princess Maria Amelia of Brazil, dated June 4 of 1851, on the death of her grandmother Auguste Duchess of Leuchtenberg (née Princess of Bavaria):

I can't express to you the great pain I felt upon learning of the sudden, unexpected death of my beloved grandmama... Words are inexpressive to describe great and deep feelings... I cannot... The feeling of anguish I experienced, last year, saying goodbye to grandmama, it was a feeling then!… The feeling that I was seeing her, that I was hugging her for the last time! Grandmama was in such good health, when we left Munich, that it didn't occur to me! The fear of losing her… However, this misfortune, about which I would not have dared to dwell... it happened ! It's horrible, horrible! Let us not murmur. Let us resign ourselves to the will of God who wanted it this way…

Grandmama was reunited with her loved ones who preceded her in eternal bliss; and, reunited with those she loved, she enjoys an ineffable happiness with which God wanted to reward her high virtues, her inexhaustible goodness.

Also for the VP design I had to look up actual voodoo priests and found out they wear everything white??? It *is* the color of death after all. So I thought why not-

Don't get me wrong I love the standard new world haloweenish voodoo vibe but it's like everywhere.
