Amazonian Mushrooms
When it comes to selecting foods that are high in various nutrients for your meals, traditional foods that are white in color, such as white bread, white rice, and white pasta, may not have the best reputation for being the healthiest option. However, there is a delicacy that is white in color that you should heap generous portions of onto your plate: mushrooms. Mushrooms are a nutty-flavored, nutrient-packed delight that may be enjoyed in a variety of preparations, such as in a spinach salad, sautéed in a stir-fry, or mixed into an omelet. the amazonian parachute is an agaric fungus in the family marasmiaceae. there is little currently known about it, however it has numerous observations in south america !! they often occur on decaying leaves, & act as decomposers.
the big question : can i bite it?? it is currently unknown whether or not this fungus is edible.

Amazonian Cubensis Mushrooms
Humans alongside magic mushrooms can trace their relationship way back from thousands of years. Stone statues from several people indigenous to what is now South America portray images of humans and mushrooms interacting. These same cultures recommended mushrooms not just for their consciousness-enhancing properties Mushroom Dispensary USA. But also for the possible benefits they imparted.

Happy Solarpunk Aesthetic Week and Winter Solstice! ❄️
While we do celebrate here, we don't actually experience winter in my region, or any of the classic four seasons! The weather here is basically a coin toss between searing heat and torrential rain lol. So while I was musing over how to adapt a solarpunk aesthetic to a tropical lifestyle, I came up with this!
Lengthy explanations and chaotic ideas below:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Disclaimer: I am not a science-y person, so I'm not sure how any of these would technically work or what materials would go into making them. Hopefully one day someone could figure it out, but I'm just having fun sharing these ideas for now :)
-----
What works well both in harsh sunlight and heavy downpours, plus is already something that people here use everyday? Umbrellas! How cool would it be to have an umbrella that absorbs sunlight during the day, and turns it into a personal spotlight at night? Or perhaps it could absorb and store large amounts of rainwater, to be re-used later or released somewhere more useful?
My main inspiration for this is the bamboo. This plant already plays a huge role in our lives here -- culturally, economically, and from what I recently learned, ecologically too! Our region suffers from floods often, and bamboo can help to control the flow of water, for example through their roots providing a barrier against soil erosion, or their ability to store large amounts of water and release it gradually during drier seasons. (And that's just one of the many reasons why bamboos are awesome and solarpunky!) I thought it would be cool to have water stored in the 'bamboo nodes' of the umbrella shaft, which could then be detached and used individually, or as components in other tech!
I chose the Amazonian lily pad as the canopy design because 1) it looks big enough to cover a person, 2) it has a wide surface for solar panels to 'photosynthesize' energy, 3) its container-like shape looks as though it could hold rainwater like a funnel while it trickles into the shaft, and 4) it just looks really pretty! Realistically, this canopy might not be able to do everything at once, so I'm hoping for this tech to be modular and highly customizable -- as in, you could replace this 'lily pad' with something else that serves a different function! I did play around with some other designs, here they are hehe
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hibiscus: Our national flower! Have these bad boys growing in my yard so I thought why not. Not sure what functions it would have yet... perhaps the pistil could be a sensor for gathering weather data? Or maybe the anthers are little lights? Maybe it attracts BEES???
Mushroom: Not familiar with the fungi in my area yet so I went with the classic Amanita. Though now I'm kinda regretting because! Wouldn't it be so cool and lunarpunky to design it based on a bio-luminescent mushroom, so it would make sense for the umbrella to glow in the dark? AGH missed opportunities ;;
-----
Anyway while I was designing the umbrella I thought about giving the model a cool fit too, so tadaaa! A customizable pair of pants that can be worn as a shorts + half-skirt/sarong combo during hot weather, or extended to become a full pair of jeans during colder/rainy times! I used zippers as the connectors because they seem easy to sew on and I like the punky vibe it adds to the outfit. HOWEVER, I'm realising that might be inconvenient or way too time consuming for some people. Maybe buttons, magnets or hook-and-loop fasteners would be easier?
As for the shirt, idk that was just for fun. Maybe it changes colour/design based on the surrounding temperature?
-----
So YEAH that was my longer-than-expected idea dump for this week! Thank you for reading <3 If you have any thoughts or ways of expanding on these ideas please please please share them with me I'm just really excited to see what people think waaaaa!!! ok bye stay hydrated

Besides the very first chapter, we have never seen Luffy completely on his own without any of his friends so far in one piece, making Amazon Lily a very different arc from the others
Tumblr media
And we can immediately see Luffy isn’t doing great without his friends. He starts thinking back to his childhood, which despite his happy personality was definitely traumatising, and then he almost dies from eating mushrooms. It’s starting to be clear Luffy may have some self destructive tendencies in highly stressful situations
Tumblr media
Amazon Lily itself is a great setting, with really diverse women designs which is neat to see considering how many one piece girls look like hour glasses. A country made up of only warrior women is obviously based on the amazonians, but I do love they way it’s portrayed in here
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And we’re introduced to another Warlord, Boa Hancock. The first time she’s shown she’s just as ruthless as the other Warlords, literally the first thing she does on screen is kick a kitten and say how the world will always forgive her cause she’s beautiful
Tumblr media
However unlike other Warlords that we met, there quickly seem to be cracks in that persona, because the second Luffy sees her back, she snaps
Tumblr media
In Luffy’s case, he could not give less of a fuck about her beauty. Her powers don’t work on him and he sees her for all the genuinely sick things she does, like turning her subjects into stone, and rightfully calls her out on it
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
After the fight, Luffy proves himself in not being the shitty guy Hancock expected him to be, which leads to the reveal of her backstory. Hancock and her sisters lived a terrible life, and it’s not surprising she’s afraid to trust anyone outside of her sisters. A second of weakness, a moment when the mask comes off and she’s the same vulnerable little girl again. She can’t allow that for herself, she’s ruling a nation. But Luffy doesn’t judge her. He continues to treat her like a human being, now he just sees her in a more positive light
Tumblr media
And now for the elephant in the room: Hancock’s infatuation with Luffy is so clearly not real romantic feelings that it actually astounds me how I’ve argued with people over this. She has never had the chance of being treated like an actual human being. If Luffy had feelings for her, she wouldn’t be “in love” with him. It’s like when a school girl gets a crush on the boy who was nice for her, and it’s not actual love, just positive feelings towards the boy. Hancock never had that chance because of what happened in her childhood and later in adulthood
I love Hancock a lot, and I love this arc a lot

How might you describe or define animism, or alternatively, do you have any recommendations for reading about it?
Graham Harvey defines it as understanding "that the world is full of persons, only some of whom are human, and that life is always lived in relationship to others." This is definitely a better definition than "the belief that everything has a soul" but you might also notice that it's vague to the point of including practically everything that doesn't include Aristotle's rational soul as a distinctive feature of humans. Harvey is aware of this (he even includes things like yelling at your computer as an animistic behavior). As soon as you start to narrow the definition more than that, it starts to exclude peoples and customs that it's trying to include.
Nordic Animism has a good short video that does like a drive-by description of animism and history of its study that comes from the same sorts of books that I'm going to mention: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_j9oPCE-Ns
Harvey edited a book called The Handbook of Contemporary Animism. If you were going to pick a single book to start with, you could do much worse than this. Very many of the authors are ones that you'd see recur frequently if you were to go deeper into studying recent anthropology related to animism. If chapters stand out, it would be a good idea to find that author's other works.
My personal favorite single book on the subject is How Forests Think by Eduardo Kohn. He has a lecture on YouTube that introduces some of the ideas in the book: https://youtu.be/mSdrdY6vmDo?t=102.
Kohn draws heavily on the works of Eduardo Viveiros de Castro. Viveiros de Castro is one of the most important recent anthropologists in terms of him being the guy that everyone writing after him has to have an opinion about, whether positive or negative. It's a good idea to read him because he's going to come up in others' works. I personally find his stuff on Amazonian "perspectivism" very good. There's a collection of his essays called The Relative Native.
The Spell of the Sensuous by David Abram is a good book about animism and phenomenology, kind of using ideas from Western philosophers like Husserl and Merleau-Ponty to derive something compatible with non-western animistic ideas. He has another book called Becoming Animal: An Earthly Cosmology that I wasn't into but might be a good intro for some people.
There's like this whole scene of books about "entanglements" and use words like "response-ability"; it's not a bad idea to read one of them but I don't think it's necessary to read all of them; my favorite was The Mushroom at the End of the World: On the Possibility of Life in Capitalist Ruins by Anna Lowenhaupt Tsing. Donna Haraway has some books in this category that I know some people love but didn't do as much for me, admittedly possibly because of stuff I'd already read that was influenced by them. Here is also a good critique of these authors that I think preserves the positive while pointing out limitations: https://par.nsf.gov/servlets/purl/10180270.
Though only tangentially related to animism, Becoming Human: Matter and Meaning in an Antiblack World by Zakiyyah Iman Jackson is not only good on its own but I think is important to read if you're also reading stuff that focuses on distinction or non-distinction of human from non-human.
Pantheologies by Mary-Jane Rubenstein isn't specifically about animism but intersects with and includes it. I think just reading through the first chapter is worthwhile (the rest might be better for others but it drew heavily on stuff I'd already read). She also has a bunch of stuff on Youtube.
I dunno if she uses the word, but some of Gloria Anzaldúa's work intersects with it, e.g. Light in the Dark/Luz en lo Oscuro.
I am a big fan of Katherine Swancutt, she has written a lot of articles and done a lot of book editing; her book Fortune and the Cursed: The Sliding Scale of Time in Mongolian Divination is not really about animism per se but is a very good read.
Also not about animism, but a good thing to read for anyone interested in it, is The Invention of World Religions or, How European Universalism Was Preserved in the Language of Pluralism by Tomoko Masuzawa.
This is probably getting overwhelming so I'm cutting myself off even though there's other stuff that I would list otherwise. This stuff is currently very popular and well-funded in academia which means they are actually fairly widely available, including as audiobooks, for those who prefer those.

3 Health Benefits of Consuming Amazonian Mushrooms
Amazonian mushrooms are a type of psychedelic fungi that grow in the tropical regions of South America. They are known for their potent effects on the mind and spirit, but did you know that they also have some amazing health benefits? In this post, we will explore three ways that consuming Amazonian mushrooms can improve your well-being.
1. Boost your immune system
Amazonian mushrooms are rich in antioxidants, such as selenium, vitamin C, and choline. These substances help your body fight off free radicals, which can cause damage to your cells and lead to various diseases. By consuming Amazonian mushrooms, you can strengthen your immune system and prevent infections.
2. Manage your weight
Amazonian mushrooms are low in calories and high in fiber. Fiber helps you feel full and satisfied which can reduce your appetite and prevent overeating. Fiber also aids in digestion and regulates your blood sugar levels. By consuming Amazonian mushrooms, you can control your weight and lower your risk of diabetes.
3. Enhance your mood Amazonian mushrooms contain psilocybin, a psychoactive compound that can alter your perception and cognition. Psilocybin can induce a state of euphoria, creativity, and spiritual insight, which can improve your mood and outlook on life. Psilocybin can also help you cope with stress, anxiety, and depression, by providing a new perspective and a sense of connection. These are just some of the health benefits of consuming Amazonian mushrooms. If you want to learn more about these amazing fungi, visit our website Shrooms911. MCD Scifi AU 2
(Travis, Dante, Nana, Aaron)
Tumblr media
Travis - He is a shapeshifting slime, this is his natural form but he normally takes on a human appearance to fit in. He works as the ships archeologist and also their garbage disposal as their body will absorb anything. Makes it great when there is an inspection and you need to get rid of drugs, just need to make sure it isn't enough to make him high. If there is he will fully sludge and become a puddle of mess. Joined the crew the moment he saw the Amazonian Katelyn at a bar and offered their services. Grape Jelly He/They (I made them look goofy on purpose, imagine meeting such a seductive person only to find that they look like a veggie tales character)
Tumblr media
Dante - DINOSAUR ALIEN! I wanted to make him look like he could survive several different environments. Dante comes from a death world planet that faced extreme weathers with summers that blazed the planet and ice age winters. Despite his major alien features, he is actually half human. His mother was a human ambassador that climbed an alien like a tree. He is the ships mechanic and he is tagging on the ship hoping to find out what happened to his brother,
Tumblr media
Nana - I actually decided to make her human, but a victim of enhancement rejection. When she was younger she lived in the gutters on one of Earths colonies that was rife with crime. One day she was caught in a gang war and was shot in the leg. Having to still provide for her family, she went to an underground enhancement doctor to repair her leg. Unfortunately, her body rejected the prosthesis leaving her paralyzed from the waist down and unable to take anymore enhancements. She then took a job as a communication liason because it was the only job she can do from her chair and it eventually landed her a job on the S.S. Phoenix Drop, giving her a steady income she can immediately send to her family.
Tumblr media
Aaron - Tentacle mycelium monster. Despite his aquatic reptilian appearance, he is technically more of a mushroom, almost parasitic in a sense. He is from a planet that was infested with THE RED but the odd thing is, no one knows what the original species of the planet looked like, and he doesn't look like he belongs the the planet, almost an amalgamation of various species. But hey, evolution is weird (look a Travis) so no big deal... right? Aarons job on the ship is recon, he is immune to the effects of THE RED so they send him in to investigate planets to see if there is salvageable life or if they need to quarantine and destroy the planet. He was assigned by the galactic board to the ship so he was never really hired and he makes it known that they are lucky to have him, if he decides to speak at all.

Some of the most renowned examples of sacred plants include ayahuasca, peyote, and psilocybin mushrooms. 🌿 Each of these plants holds a rich history of ceremonial use in indigenous cultures, revered for their profound spiritual and healing properties.
Ayahuasca, known as the 'vine of the soul,' has been used for centuries in Amazonian shamanic rituals to facilitate deep introspection and spiritual growth. Peyote, a small cactus native to North America, is revered by indigenous peoples for its ability to induce profound visionary experiences and connect individuals with the divine. Psilocybin mushrooms, commonly referred to as magic mushrooms, have been used in traditional ceremonies worldwide for their ability to evoke spiritual insights and healing. At Soul Tribes, we honor the sacredness of these plants and their potential to guide us on transformative journeys of self-discovery and healing. 🌟

On Friday we waited all day for the medical's programs to send, but they didn't come, so out of boredom I started to wonder what human versions of Helob and Sozo would look like... Here's the result of my deliberations XD
Tumblr media
The human version of Sozo and his mushroom subjects (which I haven't drawn yet) are modeled on the indigenous peoples of Central and South America: Aztecs, Mayans, Incas, a bit of Peru and Amazonian head hunters' tribes. Helob, in turn (and in general all spiders from the game and my AU) is modeled on the indigenous peoples of North America: the Indian tribes of North America, but also the peoples of the Arctic Circle in Asia and North America (Inuit).
