Yes, as if the Night Na’vi weren’t mysterious enough already. I mean, on top of tricking the RDA into thinking that they don’t even exist for over a CENTURY, they have an evolutionary adaptation like THAT?⁣⁣⁣

Man, Grace is probably pissed that she wasn’t alive for that one.⁣⁣⁣

⁣⁣⁣

But this is also why they say, “Hunger is the bane of every Night Na’vi’s existence.” It can be pretty exhausting when your stomach is only so big, but you still need to get your daily nutrition.⁣⁣⁣

⁣⁣⁣

But this new knowledge sparks even more questions. Why do they go back to their homelands if there’s nothing for them there? How do they survive it for 3 months? And why is it whenever they return, they greet the other clans with bountiful and unique plants and substances?⁣⁣⁣

⁣⁣⁣

The other clans would try to go there with the Night Na’vi, but venturing there without your own Night Ikran is virtually a death sentence. And the only way you can get a Night Ikran is by going to the Pulse…which is in the Night Na’vi homelands. It’s a pretty vicious cycle.⁣⁣

⁣⁣

That and nothing can prepare you for the things you’ll see there…⁣things that no one can EVER unsee.⁣

Part 5 of RDA Jake and Neytiri

Jake was definitely worried now. As He sat here eating with Neytiri,she was going into heat in barley 2 hours,he was worried to death. What was he gonna do? he likes Neytiri and sure she's drop dead gorgeous,but he isn't the type to take advantage of women. He absolutely refused to have anything like that around him after all the years he watched his old man knock his mom around and force her. He would never take advantage of a woman,even a different species,So he had no Idea what to do. He could just help her get comfortable and wait,he didn't care how her scent or whatever affected his body,he would just comfort her and his touches where going to stay limited to hugging and maybe a few kisses on the cheek. Neytiri could SEE physically that Jake was stressing,over her heat no doubt. But that's what made her wonder,sky men wouldn't care, they'd touch whatever woman near, willing or not. so what made Jake so different,What made Jake think so different from others. She didn't know but she would forget it for now. As her body was slowly but surely heating up to cause the heat. She dreaded her heat,it was pain and made you stupid,or at least forced the thought of breeding into your mind. Even if you weren't interested in that sort of thing,it still happened. So,for her first couple years alone in the forest her only companion and friend to help her had been Nikea from the Alyara Clan of night Na'vi. She and Neytiri were best friends forever, but Nikea got into trouble badly with her clan for teaching Grace night Na'vi. Nakir didn't care Nikea was just a little girl,she still cut her tongue so she couldn't talk. Only now Nikea had an Ikran and it had a migration pattern it had to follow,so Nikea had to go as well. Now she only sees her when the Ikran's pattern of flight passes through Omaticaya Territory or nearby at least. None the less if he was still around,Nikea would be a big explanation for Jake,and Jake for Nikea

Amuk reference sheet

Amuk is one of the Night Na'vi of the Alyara Clan. She loves to travel and make new friends wherever she goes and sees the beauty in everything that Eywa has to offer. She also dresses a certain way to respect her culture of the Night Na'vi and wears an extinct type of amber over her chest and ankles. Nikea is also an old friend, but she hasn't seen her since her exile. There were times when Nikea would introduce her to Neytiri but didn't see her as a close friend. 

Both of her parents are alive and well, and also her younger brother, whom she loves very dearly. When Amuk was with Nikea, they would visit Grace at her school and learn how to speak English, which gave her more knowledge to understand how to communicate with the sky people. However, her parents told her never to return and forbid her to speak with the outsiders. She misses the people whom she loved to spend time with and would one day finally get the chance to meet someone whom she can truly teach the ways of the Night Na'vi.

I want to thank @choclodox for her artwork. It's amazing how she designs her characters of Night Na'vi from the movie Avatar: The Way of Water, and I thought, why not whip up a Night Na'vi character of my own? It turned out great, so please follow her for more beautiful artwork.

Job when she joined the Omaticaya clan: Direhorse trainer.

Why she decided to stay: Alyara had very poor vision since young, and wore contact lenses. Then when she first awakened in her avatar na'vi body, Alyara couldn't feel happier of having her vision restored! So after all the events in the first movie, a burial for her human body was made, and was permanently transitioned to her na'vi body.

🌚 Quick Night Na’vi trivia: ⁣⁣⁣

The Night Na’vi word for “sea” is also their word for “night”⁣⁣⁣

Night ikrans (or as the humans call them, Xenica banshees/harpies) are the only ideal mount for the Night Na’vi of the Alyara clan as they are the only mount that is nocturnal and can carry the Night Na’vi throughout Pandora (why the Night Na’vi have to travel is elaborated on a previous post called “why the night Na’vi eat so much”). ⁣

The males migrate throughout the North (this the heavy plumage which varies throughout the year, including a molting phase), while females migrate throughout the South. The downside of these mounts is that they rarely choose riders of the opposite sex, so the men and the women of the Night Na’vi have to go separate ways for most of the year. ⁣

⁣

They meet up again for 3-4 months once a year in the homelands, which is baffling since the Night Na’vi homelands is completely barren ever since the cataclysmic event that wiped out their home forest centuries ago. No one knows why they go back except the Alyara, and the Night Na’vi known for liking their privacy when they’re not visiting the house their clans.⁣

Despite being covered in eyespots, xenicas have no actual eyes that allow them to see. They make up for it by having an impeccable hearing mechanism, antennae that allow for exceptional olfactory senses, and sensor pits that allow them to sense body heat. ⁣

⁣

The Alyara can bond with their ikrans and experience their ikrans’ enhanced senses, which is amazing because who can say that they can hear an aircraft start up from handful of klicks away or smell a spike in your blood sugar. ⁣

⁣

However, this is double edged sword: A sight driven being such as a Na’vi doesn’t pair well with a mount that can’t even begin to comprehend the concept of sight, *so the Night Na’vi can’t bond with their ikrans while flying.*⁣

⁣

But this isn’t to say they never use tsaheylu. It’s just reserved for sensing what the ikrans sense and to establish the companionship like mountain banshees.⁣

To say the least, Nakir is a force to be reckoned with.⁣⁣

It was a BIG deal when the Alyara ceased contact because the Omatikaya are one of the main reasons why the Night Na’vi survived near extinction. On top that, the Alyara clan consider them the most important stop because they have to borrow the Tree of Souls to allow their kids to go through the first communion with Eywa. They can’t do that back in their homelands since their Spirit Tree got destroyed centuries ago.⁣⁣

And Nakir wasn’t lying when she said that Nikea got off easy. She only got her fingernail pulled off.⁣⁣

They even let her choose which one. ⁣⁣

Why the Night Na’vi don’t visit the Omatikaya anymore Pt. 5⁣⁣⁣⁣

It was a very sad night for the Omatikaya. The Alyara are known for their trade and bringing medicinal herbs and substances from their homelands that have insanely advanced properties (which is a big head scratcher considering the current state of their homelands), so the Omatikaya took a big hit in terms of supplies and trade as well. And since the Alyara switched up their route, there are also other villages that they don’t visit anymore.⁣⁣⁣⁣

I’d like to add that the idea of Nikea’s character started after I noticed that…Neytiri doesn’t seem to have any friends. Jake has the science guys, Spider and the Sully kids have each other, but I haven’t seen Neytiri hang out with anybody in A1 or A2 aside from Jake and her family. I figured a friend like Nikea would be a nice edition for her.⁣⁣⁣⁣

You guys can take comfort in the fact that the two of them meet up again two years after these events…albeit Nikea has been exiled by that time. ⁣⁣⁣⁣

How did alyara clan burials work before and how did they change over the years?

Alyara burials…oof that’s a tricky one. This is a bit of a deep lore question. Before the Night Na’vi were able to the leave homelands, there was a time when they…couldn’t bury their dead. I won’t get into it here because it goes in depth with their story I’ve been writing on Ao3 (Change is Who We Are).

Nowadays, when someone dies, they bring them back to the Pulse to be buried there. If they die a long ways away from there, they are temporarily embalmed and usually the deceased’s ikran will carry them back. Xenicas are very social with each other, and when they bond, they see their riders as part of the colony’s hierarchy and not just a companion. Most have to be sedated with an incense smoke before anyone can get near the body to embalm them. Desert Na’vi always help with these preparations since they also had a big impact with teaching the Night Na’vi about proper burials (another deep lore question).

The thing about the Pulse is that they’re aren’t connected to the Neural Network, and hence, are not connected to Eywa. The idea is that one day the forest will restore itself and when that happens, the Pulse will reconnect with the land and all those who are resting peacefully will be able to connect with the rest of the world in the afterlife (another deep lore question).

This animatic took a while since I was super picky about the song choice. It’s a bit ironic that this track is from a super chill kid’s movie and I ended up using it for something like this 😬⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

I had to Find something that was fast paced, still in the style of the OG Avatar soundtrack, and also…surreal? Because keep in mind, Nikea (up until this point) has never even seen or heard a gun before in her life; she’d only ever heard people talk about them.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
