Kotlc enjoyers I am back with another silly AU

University AU where the Neverseen is a cafe on campus with constantly changing owners that may or may not be running a money laundering scheme.

Some alternate versions and a little ramble underneath

OKAY so I think this au would be best as a SOCMED type of au, the current name I have for it is Flame grilled (haha great pun in there). My current tag line is ‘he was a burger flipper she was a vegan can I make it anymore obvious?’. That being Brant (Uni drop out and aspiring artist) and Jolie a junior reporter trying to find her big story break. She originally protests the Neverseen for not being vegan friendly but ends up finding about the money laundering under the new owner. All the while Umber, who runs the Neverseen twitter account is trying to spin their relationship into a romance to spur customers into eating at their failing cafe (mostly so she doesn’t have to go job hunting).

do you- do you ever think about how Fitz Vacker grew up loving his big brother and admiring him and how he had no idea that his big brother secretly hated him the whole time and actually favored his sister and best friend over him

do you ever think about how Fitz truly loved Keefe and wanted to be there for him, only to find out that Keefe has resented him for most of their friendship and would choose his betraying brother over him

do you ever think about how Fitz told Sophie she was the only one he trusted, and how willing he was to share himself with her, only for her to withhold from him and run to his best friend and leave him in the dark

ok I know it's mostly a meme BUT alvar being gay would actually fit in with what we knew about his character/motivations beforehand. his entire thing was about how fitz was like a golden child while he and biana always got left out. feeling something that most of elvin society considers wrong (or at the very least weird) would make him feel even 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 out of place---and given how fitz reacts to the whole unmatchable thing ("there's never been a vacker who was a bad match" etc) it's pretty obvious that matchmaking would have been kind of forced on alvar, which would make him hate his family even more than he already did. It'd make even more sense if the neverseen were chill with gay people and that was the first place he felt accepted (ruy x alvar omg). anyway all that to say gay alvar will probably never be canon but 𝘪𝘧 𝘪𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘴 I feel like it would make sense.

can we take a minute to discuss how betrayed everyone would feel if they knew keefe had been living and dining in cahoots with alvar for weeks. if they knew he healed him? imagine how sophie would react. the confusion, the guilt, the betrayal at her now-boyfriend having spent half of his time in the forbidden cities with the guy who planned her kidnapping, torture, and eventual disposal. and dex, too!! and hey, we obviously all know it wouldn't go well with fitz. and the look on biana's face? the lip quiver?

"fitz was right to never forgive alvar" and "alvar is capable of growing and becoming a better person no matter what depths he's sunk to because there is no point at which you lose the ability to change and improve" are two things that can, and do, coexist. unforgivable and irredeemable are two different things

I absolutely despise Alden Vacker. Half of that hatred comes from him being problematic, and the other half comes from him putting a bad name on the name Alden. The only character I’ve come across with my name and it’s this guy???

Anyway, never thought I’d catch myself making Keeper of the Lost Cities fanart in almost 2025, but here I am, doing that.
