Ford and Dipper both went into the hide behind’s territory on purpose, which it probably didn’t like. The regular townsfolk unintentionally go there and then freak out if they hear/see it.

But Stan? Stan is interested in cool anomalies, but not fixated on studying them like his nerdy family. So he doesn’t go looking to barge into their homes or catch them for science. As long as they don’t break into the mystery shack/attack him/remind him of a bug, he’s chill.

Anyways, what I’m saying is that Stan has perfect cat etiquette. Doesn’t get up in its face trying to pet it, doesn’t freak out because he’s scared, and lets the cat leave when it wants.

Stan being the only non-bothered member of the Pines' about anomalies getting the most up close and personal looks at them is a vibe I LOVE.

Anyway I headcanon that he's the only person to ever see the Hide Behind and Ford finds that very frustrating.
