So this is going to be my breakdown of the One Piece Live Action trailer. If you are not interested, just keep scrolling

So these are the first few shots and I like how these appear. Foosha Village and the Baratie looks good. I really like the Going Merry in the shipyard due to the mess and the fog in the background. From what we see in other promotional stuff the Merry looks cool as well. Idk why, but I get the feeling the Luffy is going to get the Merry from the very beginning. I could be wrong, but that’s the vibe. At first I didn’t really like it but I think that’s just me being too strict on the series and I realized that some liberties would be taken. Plus it probably won’t change the story that much.

The next few shots is Shells Town and Zoro. The actual town looks decent, but I fucking LOVE how Morgan keeps a giant fucking poster of himself. It’s so ridiculous but also fits his character. I also love the idea that the people who he keeps prisoner have a Big Brother style poster looking at them. As for Zoro he looks good. His hair his better than Nami’s which we will get to. But for the fight we seen it looks good and Zoro looks appropiately badass.

Nami’s hair is the first thing that I saw that I didn’t really like. It doesn’t look too good. Now I will admit I have gotten used to it, but I do hope if this gets a second season they will get her a better wig.

Then we switch to Luffy’s flashback with the Loard of the Coast and Shanks! We don’t really get a good look on Shanks but the Sea King looks really fucking good. I just love how it looks and can’t wait to see how they did the flashback and how Shanks looks.

So the next shot we see is of Alvita’s ship(which I didn’t screenshot) and of Buggy. The ship looks alright, but holy fucking shit BUGGY!!! At first he looks so fucking uncanny and creepy and I didn’t like it at first but it has grown on me. I realized that it was probably the way the lighting and shot looks and as soon as we see Buggy in other lighting he probably won’t look as creepy, but now I LOVE this shot. He looks so fucking creepy and am excited to see it.

And now from one of my favourite scenes to one I don’t really like. It can be summed up to a few words:

THEY WOULD NOT FUCKING SAY THAT

The only one that is accurate to the manga in this scene is Nami.

Zoro saying that he doesn’t work for Nami does feel in character but not Luffy. So Luffy says that he thinks there is some tension among the crew. From Luffy’s monologue in the beginning I feared that they changed his character but this pretty much confirms that they did. And I do get the sheer dumbassery of Luffy probably wouldn’t work in a live action series since that’s has to deal with reality and the manga and anime can get pretty cartoony, so the sheer dumbass Luffy is can fit in that setting. However, I worry that they just replaced Luffy with the mediocre, quippy marvel-type superhero rather than the absolute dumbass Luffy really is. Like I need to see more of him but I don’t think this Luffy would believe Usopp’s disguise as Sogeking in Water 7.

And Zoro’s response to Luffy of “We’re not a crew” ALSO makes me worry that they changed his character. Zoro is just as much of a dumbass as Luffy, but the main difference is that Zoro often stays stoic and serious and Luffy getting serious is a sign shit is going to go down. But I worry that they just made Zoro into just being a badass rather than the mix of badass and dumbass he really his. Also, why would he help Luffy if he’s not part of the crew. I mean I could see Zoro staying with Luffy just to get escape Shellstown but if he’s not part of the crew, why stay in Orange Town and Syrup Village? The angle they are probably going for is for Zoro to join the crew in Baratie after his duel with Mihawk, but for me if Zoro is this hostile to the idea of joining up with Luffy how does he deal with him until the Baratie? Like for Nami was already the reluctant crew member going along and her arc works because there is the double plot twist with her. at first she was a reluctant member going with the crew and would join them because they grew on her. But wait, she just stole their money and ship and THAT’S the reason why she went along. But when we got to Arlong Park there is a second twist and that she DOES care for the crew and did it because she was blackmailed. But for Zoro, there is no reason why he would stay with Luffy long enough to meet and duel Mihawk. They could handle it but I worry about that.

And now we see shots of the rest of the crew! I’d say they both look good. Some people might be disappointed about Sanji’s swirls and Usopp’s nose not being there, but I understand that the prosthetics might be annoying to put on/break easily and they excluded them for convienience.

Finally, we see Koby and a proper look at Luffy’s devil fruit powers. I can’t really make out Koby but he looks like the skinny guy he was in the beginning. Luffy’s powers though look good. I feel like this scene takes place at night so they could hide some of the CGI but I think it looks good. I think they will make Luffy a close-quarters fighter similar to what Randy Troy said on Youtube, but I don’t mind that.

Another scene that showcases that Zoro is just a 100% serious badass that I don’t like.

And the logo to end it all!

Despite with how it might have appeared with the Zoro rant, overall I liked the trailer. I do worry about the changes they made to Zoro and Luffy but overall I think it has potential.

I, a very white and somewhat privileged person, am absolutely terrified to draw colored people. Because I don’t know if I’d cross the thin line of tasteful and authentic or racist and stereotypical…

Lol for starters don't refer to us as coloured people. This ain't 1955. Secondly my best advice to you is to use references of actual people of color. I would highly recommend staying away from those white men art station youtuber type artists for tutorials because they get a majority of their techniques and style from main stream video games and comic books, which to put it nicely don't have the best reputation for representing women and poc. tangent over, so yeah references. real life photographs of brown and black people.

pinterest is a site that a lot of current, especially younger artists like to use, but in all honesty it's not a very good source for someone trying to learn the fundamentals. it'll mainly show you 20 something year old ig and twitter models which is okay if you wanna just draw pretty people; but not the best if you wanna like I said learn fundamentals + have a portfolio that's varied. also it's rife with ai shit and stolen art, so yeah would only recommend that as an initial starting point/using it to make your own personal board for your saved images.

stock photo sites are my go to for refs. getty images, istock, alamy, etc. a simple right click save image or screenshot will work to get the images you want for free. of course there will be the watermarks, but they're honestly a very small issue to bypass. as long as they're not opaque and nearly covering the entire subject; you're good. a nice thing about stock photo sites is they usually give you the option to filter the image search results. say for instance you want to draw an elderly asian woman cooking or a young black man painting a picture or an indigenous child playing with dolls. you can look up certain terms you want in the search bar & specify gender, age and ethnicity to narrow down your search to what you want.

another awesome place for references i discovered during college is posespace.com

like with getty images, it gives you the option to filter your searches. they also have their models in clothed or nude shoots in the event that you want to practice some bare bones anatomy.

also also, get your info from artists of color. there's a decent amount of tutorials ive found over the years on here and youtube on coloring skintones, drawing certain hair types, how to avoid caricatures and stereotyping, different facial features, cultural hairstyles. the list goes on. don't be afraid to depict people outside of your race. literally just go about drawing us the same way you would a white person. don't be scared, as long as you remain respectful and make an honest effort to learn; you'll do fine.

Hag-Eyed and Volo's Ersatz Eye cosmetics

Okay making this post because I haven't seen anyone do it and I've wanted it to be a thing so many times I might as well do it myself! This will include images of the cosmetics on all viable companions as well as player races with unique eyes.

Volo's Ersatz Eye:

Player races (Dragonborn, Githyanki, Tiefling) Volo cares not for the color of your sclera.

Origin Characters Karlach's has the slit pupil! As does Lae'zel's!

Hag-Eyed:

Player races (Dragonborn, Githyanki, Tiefling) The eye didn't show up in Magic Mirror for my Tiefling so this is a dialog screenshot- sorry

Origin Characters

Wyll isn't included due to not having a good eye to spare and as such being barred from both eye replacements. Minthara, Halsin, and Jaheira will refuse to obtain Volo's eye, and I'm not sure it's possible to get any of them to the Hag. Minthara maybe... But I don't have a file in which I could test it.

Additional context below + how to obtain both eyes if you need it. -(Will contain a GIF)

Volo's Ersatz Eye: You will first find Volo in the Emerald Grove, and if you talk to him, he will explain that he's going to visit the Goblin Camp. When you find him there, interact with him, and then rescue him. He'll eventually be at your camp, and you can talk to him about your affliction and he'll say he can fix it. Once you've had a Long Rest, talk to him again and he'll propose to do surgery on you. From what I understand, the scene is very graphic both visually and in narration, and is also pretty long. If you have issues with eye trauma like I do, I recommend covering your screen with a sheet or enlisting a more confident friend to tell you when it's done... (You do need to pick dialog options though) Anyways, once you've had that impromptu surgery, Volo will offer to replace your eye with a relic as payback. This eye gives you a permanent See Invisibility condition, as well as the cosmetic change, which makes it a net positive. Though I believe companions do disapprove of the surgery.

Little bit of a closer look at the Ersatz eye on a Dragonborn... It doesn't glow and it's not animated, but doesn't have a visible sclera. You can get this effect normally by selecting "human" eye colors. It doesn't really match with classic DB eyes though. EDIT - The Ersatz Eye seems to always have a slightly green-tinted sclera when the sclera is visible. You can only really tell up close, but it's worth noting I guess.

Hag's Eye: The Hag's Eye can be obtained in the Sunlit Wetlands after talking to Auntie Ethel in the Emerald Grove. Just go to the quest marker there. Going through with this will give you the Hag-Eyed tag and the "Paid the Price" condition. Unlike with Volo's Ersatz Eye, you get to pick which of your eyes is replaced. The condition will give you a +1 to Intimidation, Disadvantage on perception checks, and Disadvantage on attacks against Hags. In Early Access, it made it impossible to land Critical Hits, but as far as I can tell this is no longer a thing! (Also fun fact- After giving the Hag their eye, all the companions have custom overworld dialog. I'll leave you to look at that yourself though!)

For Dragonborns, the eye has a very visible black sclera, and is unanimated, as you can see here. It's up to you whether you think that matches well with classic DB eyes or not.

If you want the effects but not the cosmetics, there are mods on Nexus which remove the visual component in both cases. I may add links to those mods down here later, but Nexus is down right now so it'll have to wait.

spacelazarwolf has (from my not too in depth look at what appears when i search “gaza” and “zionist” on the blog) reblogged many posts advocating for a ceasefire, at least criticizing the idf, one that explicitly states a massacre is happening to gazan people from nov. 15 (older post so wouldn’t be downplaying genocide i’m pretty sure), and quite a few fundraisers for evacuations from gaza and charities. there also doesn’t appear to anything that downplays the genocide. i don’t want to be hasty but theres nothing that gave the impression that they support/downplay the genocide in gaza and that claim + the one that they were zionist came from antisemitism and/or an attempt to defame them (especially since they state in a post linked to their pinned post that they won’t talk about israel or zionism)

genderkoolaid has (from my searches of “gaza” and “israel” on the blog) rb-ed fundraisers to help people leave gaza and posts that say that there is a genocide in gaza

So I just found out that my boyfriend has been cheating with a long distance girl for a year...he’s cheated other times and can’t believe I just found out. I was looking at his phone and the same number kept popping up more then once in a week so knew there was something going on..I called the number from my phone to see if it was a guy or not and a girl answered then I found out everything, she sent the screenshots and all and when I brought it up to him he tried lying even more so I had the girl send more...on the phone the girl also told me that “he treated her like shit, every time she would go to see him they would drink and hookup and this last time she got blacked out and he made up an excuse and blocked her the rest of the trip and put her through a lot” the texts seemed to describe what she was talking about..should I take him back? He deleted all his social media, blocked the girl and i do love him it’s just hurtful he’s cheated other times. Any input?

a little big sister advice here, you shouldn't even have to ask anyone if you should leave him. It's obvious that you should. This boy (I'm not even going to call him a man he doesn't deserve it) cheated on you multiple times, has the audacity to lie to your face and treated the girl he was cheating with like shit. red flags everywhere honey.

you absolutely should not take him back. dump him. you deserve so much more in life so why are you hesitating?

here's what I want you to do: call him and break up with him. do not give him a lengthy explanation or apologize. try not to cry during this if you can. then you're going to order some pizza and get a bar of dark chocolate. spend the next few days dealing with the heartbreak because I know that it's hard <3

but after you give him your 4 days (im saying 4 because i dont feel like he deserves any more but its up to you) I want you to get up and go for a walk. make yourself a healthy meal and take a nap. you are going to focus on building yourself. cultivate your interests and likes and make yourself strong.

i'll answer your questions first, then do the tutorial, since the images will make it kind of long!

question 1: the newer editor on desktop! i think it's called the beta editor? i don't know if you can use it on mobile (i make all my flags and edits on desktop, so i queue them from desktop), but it's accessed with this toggle:

when the toggle is switched off like it is in the screenshot, you'll be using the newer post editor, which allows 30 images.

question 2: i honestly don't know, sorry! i've never used ibis paint (the only editor besides gimp that i've used is pixlr), but if anyone who sees this does, feel free to answer this one for me!

tutorial for combining images when i have more than 30 icons to fit into a post:

i'll put this tutorial in text first, then add images with further explanation of the process for if you need it.

basic tutorial:

make your icons that you need to put into one post

open them so that they are two layers in one image

right-click the image you want on the right side in the post and click on 'edit layer attributes'

in the layer attributes menu, input the width of the icon plus a little extra into the 'offset x' spot (for 600x600 icons, i put in the number 610), then hit the 'ok' button at the bottom of the menu

go to the image menu (top bar) and click 'fit canvas to layers'

you're all done! save your image as a png (or other file type that can have a transparent background)

detailed tutorial:

let's say i need to combine these two images for a post:

first, i open the images as layers in one image. just open one of the images using 'open' in the file menu or the shortcut ctrl+o:

now both images are open in one layer! these images are 600x600, and i want to mimic that little white space that tumblr puts between images, since it looks nicer that way. i right-click on the image that i want to be on the right in the end, which is the icon without the character over it, and either click 'edit layer attributes' or the 'e' key:

in the edit layer attributes menu, i type the width of the image plus a bit extra into the 'offset x' spot to mimic the space tumblr puts. for my typical 600x600 icons, i put in the number '610'. 'offset x' moves the layer that number of pixels to the right (or to the left, if you put in a negative number).

click the 'ok' button at the bottom of the layer attributes menu. that will apply the layer offset. now go to the images menu on the top bar and click 'fit canvas to layers' - this will make your image the right size to accomodate all the layers in it, and since you now have an offset layer, it'll make your image larger:

once you click that, you'll have this:

it looks like it's not the whole image, but that's just because this icon is large and it's still centered on the original image. using the scroll bar at the bottom will show the entire image. you can now save this image as a png/other transparent file type and upload it like this:

lol this is not going to be overly helpful, so sorry in advance.

I downloaded some episodes from a link that has since been removed and open them in vlc to take screencaps. for the rest, I use an illegal streaming site that has decent quality. for those, I can't pause without things popping up, so I turn off the floating thumbnail option, let the scene play, and just mash (lol) the screenshot shortcut. it's not perfect but it works. someday I'll find another download source or just buy the DVDs.

I always crop the black bars before using any screencaps. I also make subtitles myself, because I'm too picky for the ones that are provided, which often contain typos.

if you need screencaps you can hit me up! I'm happy to share, I have a lot. if you want to get them yourself that makes my heart full but my gremlin methods probably aren't the best.

humming bird

Our goal with the humming bird is to move it into a different background. So, first we need to apply a mask that covers the humming bird. We'll also make a backup backdrop as well.

First we use use the object selection tool to create an outline of the humming bird.

Next we want to convert this selection into a layer mask, so we just click the "Japan Flag" icon to do so. Now we have our mask layer, now we just make a solid backdrop colour to check if our cut was any good.

It turns out that the wings look a little too blurred, due to the software confusing where the feathers end with the blur of the wings. Our solution is to you the Pen tool to create a path around the wings, just outlining them and defining their shape.

After we finish our outline here, all we have to do is open the paths menu and command click on that paths icon next to work path to turn it into a selection.

The next part is a little tricky. So, now we take the selection into the mask. Then, we make sure the selection is filled with white pixels by OPTION-DELETING. After that, we then invert our selection with SHIFT+COM+I

After doing this, we can then go in with the brush tool and clean up the wings with black, and we don't have to worry about catching any corners as the wing is filled.

Adding blur to the wing now:

To do this we just select the blur tool which is the Drop icon on the tool bar. Editing the white pixels in the mask will ad this blur effect (sorry, I didn't manage to get any screenshots of the effect, but here's a screen grab from the lecture video below).

Next we want to take the bird out of the picture. First, we right click the mask and click apply to layer. Then we flip the image around.

It should look something like this (I rushed a bit, so I didn't take a screen shot of this part, here's another picture from the lecture video above). After doing so we select the whole layer with COMMAND+A and then copy it using COMMAND+C.

After doing so, we can then open our background image, file -> open the image. Then we just COM+V paste our humming bird into the new background, make sure to place it appropriately. It's also a good idea to add some simple lighting and such.

That's pretty much it, here's the layers and such.

Reflection: This whole cutting things out and sticking them on different images is very interesting, and definitely opens up a lot of opportunities for making graphics and magazines. Though, the whole process is definitely hard to wrap my head around. Same goes for the other stuff with the selection fruitbasket.

Ever since seeing the cover art to Shrek the Third's 4K release, which used Puss' render from Puss in Boots (2011) rather than one from The Third itself, it really inspired me in redoing my Paramount Home Entertainment covers for the sake of accuracy.

When making the front cover, I had to search for the render that had Puss on Shrek's shoulder, which took long until I came across it finally. I then layered it with the render from the 4K cover on PhotoLayers while making sure to match the color hue. Seeing how low the quality was on the finished attempt, I enhanced the quality with Remini. I had the title logo with the DreamWorks Animation wordmark introduced in 2016 prior, which was handy. I made the non-tiled version of the front cover beforehand, then made the image slanted with the use of Image Warp. The spine was made with the title logo and Shrek's image from the 4K's spine while I reused the Paramount Pictures logo, closed caption symbol, "2-Disc Set" text, DVD Video, Blu-ray Disc and Ultra HD Blu-ray logos from the original fanmade cover back on May 25. The tilted version of the DVD cover took less than an hour, the Blu-ray cover took an hour, and the 4K cover took around 45 minutes.

The back cover used the back cover art and credits from the 4K release, while I reused the framed screenshots from the previous version back in May and the PG rating from the 2018 Blu-ray that was altered in color via LunaPic. Everything else had to made from scratched: for example the audio and subtitle specifications, like with the Puss in Boots (2011) back covers, were made with the "Tw Cen MT Condensed" font and had its width changed via Free Online Image Editor to be accurate while the jargon listing the movie's release year and other details used the "Milford Black" font. On the Blu-ray and 4K back covers, The Apple TV jargon also used "Tw Cen MT Condensed" while the disc disclaimer below used the standard "Milford" font. The progress on the DVD's back cover took from September 6 to September 7, while the Blu-ray's and 4K's were finished on September 7, then updated before I posted 'em as the "Special Features" text had shading and a different shade of green which I made non-shaded and a green that matched the accolade above. Also, sorry that the bar code is partially blocking the Three Blind Mice; couldn't find a way around it, so I let it be and it kinda fits since the mice tend to be unaware of their surroundings.

UPDATE (9/23/2023): It was driving me over how I hadn't added the commentary in the special features list, so I had to get that off my chest and fix the extras. UPDATE (9/24/2023): Found the screenshots from the 4K's back slipcover on Amazon and went ahead to update the DVD and Blu-ray back covers to add the accurate screenshots. Edgar's 'spyoning' situation (theory)

Oh boy oh boy, here I go making theories again. It has been a while... *grinds dry lumenwood into dust and inhales it for more Insight* So, I was able to piece together some evidence but consider it an alternative take to commonly accepted one rather than definitive thing!

Okay, so:

As @saint-micolash already pointed out in discussion in this ( x ) post, despite what is easy thing to assume, other people in the ritual room are not 'other scholars', they are the captives! Notice that their cages are only four bars tall and they are missing uniforms, however have cuffs and even metal collars with chains on their neck!

We by the result cannot say whether other Mensis Scholars existed or how many, maybe Micolash and Damian were the only ones. ...or maybe, since they are refered as 'madmen', there were some other ones but they are long now killed by Micolash and Damian simply got away before he "expired his use".

Okay OKAY sorry I am sidetracking!

But my point is, it was probably very hard if possible at all to simply 'blend in' amongst other scholars with his outfit as disguise of sorts. Not only there is no evidence of there having been more scholars than just Micolash and Damian, but also sending Edgar over in a disguise would have to be done under assumption that he could blend in to the point of not being noticed.

My cornerstone therefore would be assuming that his spyoning was an act - he would allow himself to get "captured" and quickly make himself useful and pretend to naturally agree and cooperate with School of Mensis, knowing what to say to make it seem legit!

There is no dead body anywhere in Yahar'gul to display Edgar being in the ritual too, so if he was to get into Nightmare of Mensis from that point - he'd have to survive the ritual and then get there through touching Micolash's corpse, like how our hunter does. However, things might be even more interesting.

Okay you got the idea, this is the corpse where Lecture Theatre key is picked from, dressed in Black Church hunter outfit! So, not a teacher. Ack, maybe hat lacks because it is overused model and they trid to avoid clipping, but whatever. I'd assume Yurie (and possibly Fauxsefka too) had some escort with them, which makes sense, it is too dangerous to go through Forbidden Woods alone.

These are some more, notably, one in Black Church garb too but the second one is in normie Yharnam Hunter garb. I think these people must have gotten here through secret passageway in Iosefka's Clinic! Think about it - what is the purpose of that secret way if there is Gatekeeper that has password every Church person must know ('Fear the Old Blood')? Well, perhaps "forbidding" Byrgenwerth was just a convenient lie so nobody would pry on the secrets of the Healing Church and where Old Blood really originated from! So they'd had to uphold illusion of not going there, but actually were using secret way.

The thing is? Edgar might have been amonst these people.

Lecture Hall is connected with Nightmare of Mensis and currently it is not possible to access Lecture Hall from Byrgenwerth area, but we do not know for how long that was the case!

The last note nitpicked is interesting as in Japanese original it does not seem to outright imply Willem, it might refer to Oedon after all as he is indeed invisible/unencounterable, he is a voice! Rom is indeed consealing the ritual but as well everything else - like Amygdalae - so maybe that includes drowning Oedon's voice out too, especially considering where this note is found. It is a bit important back to back with the fact that Willem himself 'hid a secret in the lake', so more likely that Oedon Chapel note does not mean Rom is holding him hostage or something.

These might very well be those that Patches lured into being snatched by Amygdala, but after our hunter survives abduction - Patches reveals they were meant as sacrifice to them, so saying they'd bring Church Hunters to Micolash is a bit of a stretch. Maybe they all just escaped and ended in Nightmare of Mensis through Nightmare Frontier, however some of them are pierced by Frenzy spears.

Okay one last bit, one last bit, trust me I am going somewhere:

Now let me try to lay my idea down with everything compiled! Okay so, we have - Byrgenwerth students 'still waiting' for Willem, Willem loving the look at the spot and having put Rom in there, Choir member(s) invading not alone but with at least some Black Church hunters, fact about Rom consealing 'all rituals' and not even THE ritual being known 'outside', Edgar being a spy of the Choir but unable to "blend in" back at Yahar'gul the way we like to think in memes, several Black Church hunters being in the Nightmare of Mensis with some Frenzied, Edgar dropping sedatives that are cure created at Byrgenwerth, Shadows of Yharnam that are also enemies in Nightmare of Mensis guarding gate to Byrgenwerth and Micolash mentioning that the lake is "no longer visible"...

Okay now imagine:

Rather than getting into Nightmare of Mensis through Yahar'gul, Edgar accessed it through Byrgenwerth! The passageway between 'reality' and Nightmare was not always blocked - back then one could jump into the Lake and BAM, Lecture Hall! Hidden from the n00bs. So Yurie and Fauxsefka were trying to send some low ranking Black Church hunters to scout the place, but they would all end up wandering into Micolash through Lecture Hall and those who survived to tell about it revealed some insane things before their eventual death.

So, while other scholars still have not quite became all slugs yet were instructed to 'stay away from the door', they were able to send Edgar under the guise of wayward scholar! He was prepared, being a good actor and packed with sedatives, and he could suppose what to say to play it cool and survive the encounter. Since Yurie is 'the last scholar' she probably was one of them too once, so I imagine she could fill Edgar in about Micolash, having known him before. Could have been Damian, too - he is a summon in Byrgenwerth and does not seem to be on the side of Micolash anymore... But these are just realms of further possibility. In either case Edgar was a very smart (and very brave) man and ventured in!

* It also might shortcut the explanation as to why there is Iosefka's blood vial in the Nightmare of Mensis - if they were friends passing through her clinic (at least until Fauxsefka lost her screws), maybe she simply gifted it to Edgar into adventure. It depends on what one wants to do with her, though.

But eventually Edgar broke under Micolash's influence. He must have a huge charisma as a Cult leader! Edgar did his best but only could have lasted for so long before breaking and, perhaps, ratting his true endeavors out. He acts very genuine in trying to kick our Hunter's ass, for Micolash. I like to think Micolash knew from the very start Edgar was not just an ordinary scholar and was secretly manipulating him.

Now with all found out, Micolash did something so the lake could no longer lead anyone to him - sending some Shadows of Yharnam over to block the way in and out, as one last gesture. The lake was "no longer visible", no longer the portal! Was probably some arcane water manipulation, maybe even aid from Kos herself. If she hates humanity, would not protecting ritual further aid that? So, water manipulation upon lake it is...? Maybe! And scholars did not have chance to evacuate, nobody could foresee that Lecture Hall and the main way to Byrgenwerth get split for good.

Perhaps Yurie and Fauxsefka got stuck for a long time in the place, until closer to the game events night, but notice the lack of Celestial Emissaries in Byrgenwerth - ones that Fauxsefka creates! She seems to be turning people into Kin so they don't have to become beasts instead which Yurie might not have agreed to. Choir operates differently but maybe Yurie was still more aligned with Willem's ways - something Fauxsefka eventually gave up on and ditched.

Interestingly, there is Cainhurst invitation found on the side of Iosefka's Clinic she invaded from, she also can create "secret" Cainhurst potions, and only her and Annalise mention 'moon scent' to our Hunter. Maybe she had means to 'pass' through Shadows of Yharnam as a vileblood and therefore 'their' person, leaving Yurie unable to chase her as Shadows would be too much for her. Or maybe she did not want to as protecting Rom was more important anyways?

I also want to give special thanks to @val-of-the-north because HE pointed my head towards random corpses in Byrgenwerth being maybe not so random and needing a closer look, and this is how I started to loredig this interesting bit! And to @saint-micolash because that single discussion and his remarks became a cornerstone of how I see School of Mensis now. Though overall I am very happy that this fandom is so helpful to my PS4-less ass, thank you so much guys for sharing screens and stuff!

Again, everything is only in the realm of possibility and could have stopped back in Yahar'gul, but I just thing everything is more tied together this way. And explains Mico's weird line about the lake...?

Hello! I am a huge fan of ur writing. I've loved everything I've read of yours. I've read alot of what you've posted, except for a couple of the tags that are squicky for me (so I'm very thankful you tag very thoroughly). No judgement for the squick, it's just not for me. & when I'm having a bad day, I usually just go thru ur ao3 and find something to reread. I think about Therapy's Bruce & Jason every damn day. While I obvs appreciate ur darker more "problematic" content (I really vibe with some of the themes you write about bc of my own trauma, & so it's very cathartic to read about in a fictional setting), I am truly a sucker for ur more happy content. The Happily Ever After verse also lives in my head rent free. Idk more wholesome stuff just seems more special when you write it. Anyways. I would die for you. But the point of this ask is cause I'm curious as to why you don't like Urban Legends? I'm sorry if you already talked about it here or on twitter and I missed it. I was just wondering because I really enjoy your take on things and would love to hear why you dislike it. I've been enjoying it so far personally, but I am always open to DC comics criticism.

I haven't talked about Urban Legends here or twitter (I haven't been very active in either place lately. Just a lot going on and no energy 😔) but I'm happy to do it here.

Before I start though, I just want to add a standard disclaimer and make it clear that if you like it, there's nothing wrong with that and you don't have to let me ruin it for you lol. Like what you like.

That said, since you asked...

I said this when I was talking about it on discord, that there is a difference between hope and expectation. I always hope that a new story centered on Jason (or anyone really, but things have been especially egregious for Jay for 15 years) will be good or at least treat the character with a minimal level of respect (to be honest, the bar is super fucking low). But my expectations always temper my hope, to keep it from getting unrealistic. Because my expectations are based on experience.

The long history of Jason Todd, since even before his resurrection, has been one of retroactively trying to make him "a bad seed" in order to absolve Bruce of any responsibility in his death.

I don't even expect DC or their writers to start honoring the fact that Jason was not an angry, reckless Robin (and less of the later than Dick or Tim and definitely Damian). There plenty of ways that retcon can be folded into his history and be compelling and sympathetic. And if they're going to stick with that retcon, I'm only asking that they do it in one of those compelling and sympathetic ways because Jason was 15 when he died, heroically, in one of the most selfless acts in comics, to save a woman who literally handed him over to be brutally murdered. He was 12 when Bruce plucked him off the streets, he'd been homeless and fending for himself for at least two years. I personally think that Jason's story hits harder for him and Bruce if their original, canon relationship, of Jason as starry-eyed and eager to learn and absolutely devoted to Bruce and Bruce to Jason, is preserved. But Jason's origins does leave room for a meaningful interpretation of him as angry and frustrated at the lack of meaningful results of Bruce's methods.

And that's really where my irritation at stories like Batman: Urban Legends, Cheer and Batman The Adventure Continues has it's roots.

Every time one of these stories comes out, I think (or hope, rather) that this will be the one that remembers and respects the origins of the Jason and the Red Hood, that takes into account the changed sensibilities of comics readers in the 30 years since Jason's death and the subtle, 20 year, retroactive campaign to make him the "bad Robin". The "born bad" trope is played out and literally no one likes the message it implies. That some kids are just bad eggs and there's nothing parents or the adults around them can do. Especially when it's played as the kid's fault. If Jason's time as Robin is going to be characterized by anger, then it should be rooted in anger at the social injustices he witnessed as he grew up in an impoverished, crime-ridden, area and the horrors he faced raising himself when every day was a battle for survival. There are topical, meaningful, stories to tell with that backdrop.

But those are never the stories we get.

⚠⚠ Spoilers for Batman: Urban Legends, Cheer ⚠⚠

I'm particularly disappointed in Urban Legends because for the first issue, it looked like that was the kind of story we were going to get. I was put off by the first flashback of Jason being mesmerized by Bruce's guns, and I got that feeling in my gut that it was a bad sign. Jason depicted as impatient and overconfident and the scene with the guns is heavy-handed foreshadowing that got my spidey-sense tingling. I had a inkling then (in the first three pages) of how this story was going to play out, but it was early and I could still see many narrative paths that could lead to a satisfying story. My concerns were soothed somewhat and the little flame of my hope fanned, with the flashback of Alfred scolding Bruce, with Barbara's concern for Jason. A bit of worry returned with the way Jason ruthlessly pursued an addict who didn't appear to be a dealer and with the ending of the issue. The stuff with the addict sat wrong with me but the ending was tempered some by how despicable Tyler's dad was written. The scene was clearly set so that the reader could sympathize with Jason's decision and the scene with the addict could be brushed aside as a side-effect of comics over-the-top need for constant action, so I still held hope.

Issue 2 made me uncomfortable and it's where my hope starts to take a backseat to my expectations. I can dismiss Jason's self-deprecating internal monologue as unreliable narration, except that the flashback reinforces his thought process to explicitly show that it's not unreliable narration, and should be taken at face value. Jason faces physical abuse at the hands of his mother's drug dealer and when the flashback continues later, Jason kills the drug dealer. To be clear, this is a pre-Bruce Jason. His mom is still alive. He's like... 10. He kills this guy for shoving his head into a wall and implying Jason's mother paid for her drugs with sex. This is a scene that serves a single purpose. To show that Jason has always been prone to violence.

In the spirit of full disclosure, there is the small chance the drug dealer might not be dead. But the story obviously wants the reader to think he is, and it hasn't done anything to change that yet.

Starlin already did this story with The Diplomat’s Son in 1988 and he did it infinitely better. AND that’s still technically canon. So now I’m supposed to believe that Jason lost his cool bad enough to kill two douche bags before his sweet 16? Like it’s totally normal for abused kids raised in poverty, who’ve led hard and heartbreaking lives to just... haul off and kill people? That’s bullshit, and when taken with the Jason in the third issue, who is little more than an idiot thug, this story is really doubling down on some fucked up stereotypes.

Which brings us to the most recent issue. I went into this installment with very low expectations. I thought this story was going to be about Jason, through this experience with Tyler, a young boy with a similar background to Jason's, coming to the realization that Bruce's way is the best way and that Bruce did his best by Jason.

That would be annoying (in no small part because it takes increasingly absurd levels of plot armor to keep Bruce's no kill rule relevant, let alone irrefutably right). But I can probably live with that, if only because maybe if Jason officially falls back into line with the Bats crusade, maybe I'll get stories that treat him with respect, stories that don't relegate him to comic relief, dumb brute, or a background body with no lines in a story about the Joker burning Gotham (like Jason would just fucking stand there quietly for that).

And that may still be where the story is going, Jason realizing Bruce is right.

But holy shit do I not have the right words to describe how fucking insulting and gross issue three is.

From start to finish--including the flashback--Jason is written as cruel and fucking stupid. Like straight up dumb.

The entire issue is Bruce explaining the fucking basics to Jason like it's his first day. And Jason flies off the fucking handle and terrorizes a doctor he knows isn't a part of making the Cheerdrops, beats the shit out of some random addicts, and finally, when he can't accomplish anything on his own because he's a dumb brute he calls Barbara for help and rushes in with no information where he's promptly incapacitated and must now wait to be rescued by Batman.

This panel is the least of the issues sins but I can’t screenshot the entire story but it’s representative of the tone for the whole issue (and retroactively tainted the prior two issues).

This is beyond insulting. The only conclusions Jason comes to in this issue are the ones Bruce leads him to by talking to him like he can’t make the simplest connections. And like... in this story Jason can’t make the simplest connections.

This (and the Jason throughout the entirety of this issue) is a far cry from the Jason we fell in love with in Under the Red Hood, who was competent and strategic and intelligent enough to seize control of Gotham’s underworld from Black Mask (who’s no fucking slouch, he’s the first and only person to unify organized crime in Gotham) AND elude and manipulate Bruce until the time and place of his choosing.

This is a far cry from even the Red Hood and the Outlaws Jason who is competent enough to fight the League of Shadows and Ra’s al Ghul (among very dangerous and skilled others) and smart enough to create antidotes for mind control nanotech viruses.

As he should be, by the way. Jason Todd is one of the best, most comprehensively trained fighters in DC’s stable of non powered vigilantes. He’s not irrational or hot headed. He’s pragmatic, tactically minded, and patient. He’s a detective. Right now. Has been since he was 12. Bruce doesn’t have to make him one because he already is. 

Jason is not a stupid thug who uses his fists because his brain doesn’t work. And I can’t tell you how so very exhausted I am by this narrative. 

This is actually the most egregious example of Jason’s skills and intelligence being not just undermined but dismissed entirely. Even Morrison’s Jason had some degree of competency. 

The one, single redeeming factor of this story is the art. It’s beautiful. And Marcus To is a godsend he seems to be one of only a couple of artists who remember that Jason was a child when he was Robin and I’m literally only buying this book because of him. 

Anyway, I’m sorry. I didn’t want that to come out so... um... passionately lol. I’m just very very tired. My intention with this isn’t to ruin it for you, if you like it, that’s fine. 

But this issue shot this story to the top of my "Vehemently Despise” list. 1) Batman: Urban Legends (Cheer), 2) Battle for the Cowl/Morrison’s Batman and Robin, 3) Batman The Adventure Continues.

I hope the next issues somehow salvage this dumpster fire. But I’m not expecting it.

(Damnit. That sounded harsh again. To reiterate, I’m not trying to judge anyone who enjoys it, I just personally hate it and you asked me why lol 😅)

Who's superior?

Jasper Lane VS. Lance Ira

Evidence: The most recent story event in the Japanese version of CoD (as of 1/18/21).

Context: MC got blackout drunk, someone kissed her and touched her cheek, doesn't know who. Jasper asks MC out to a bar and encourages her to keep drinking by ordering her drink and drink, even after she's clearly drunk insisting it's fine because he's there with her. Lance repeatedly tells her to be careful and not to drink too much. He drags her outside to help her sober up after finding her and Jasper at the bar and her clearly super drunk, she can't even stand or walk. Tells Jasper not to let her drink anything else strong. Jasper insists once again it's fine because he's there with her. You choose between a Lance ending or a Jasper ending. Both screenshots are the moment when they admit that they kissed MC when she was passed out.

Jasper end:

Jasper: Tell me, why did you choose me?

MC: Because I had a feeling you were the one touching my cheek, Jasper

Jasper: You would be correct in saying that. I touched you here...

Jasper: And then, I kissed you.

Jasper: I touched your cheek and then I just ended up kissing you, because I love everything about you.

Conclusion: No remorse or regret, doesn't care that he kissed her while she was blacked out. If anything, he seems to think it's something fun to tease about?

Lance end:

Lance: Yes, I was the one who touched your cheek...but...the truth is, that's not all I did...

Lance: I don't know if you remember it, but...I also kissed you.

Lance: I'm sorry, it was messed up for me to just go and kiss you like that.

MC: No, it's okay, since it was you, I'm fine...

Lance: No, it's not okay. It's not okay to kiss or touch somebody who's passed out, no matter who you or they are.

Lance: That night, when you were completely defenseless and passed out drunk, when I saw you, even though I knew it was wrong, I still...for some reason I couldn't stop myself.

Lance: I mean, I tell myself I want to treat you right and then I go and do something like that??

MC: No, it's fine, don't beat yourself up about it please!

Lance: But...I kissed you without your permission!

Starting tomorrow (Sunday) there will be five posts from the queue per day. 1 Location, 1 Stranger related post, 1 story mission, 1 Point of Interest, and 1 Newspaper. 5 posts between 10am and 2pm (EDT) (The amount I have now is enough for the rest of the month.)

I was debating whether to post one of each of the three newspapers a day but that's too much so we're just gonna start with the New Hanover Gazette then Blackwater Ledger and finally Saint Denis Times. Most of the newspapers are identical anyways but some have articles added or swapped out.

There are also articles that are contingent on completing certain Stranger Missions and/or Bounties. i.e. you don't get the Black Widow article unless you bring her in.

For my low honor run (I'm finally doing it) I have a few Colter Missions I hadn’t made posts for so I got screenshots for those to make those.Those will come after the story missions that are already in the queue (which is… pretty much all of them but 2)

I need every John drawing I missed, every John entry for stranger stuff. Arthur will ONLY do story stuff (or stuff I hadn’t done for him. Like I think I legit only need a drawing of the mammoth skeli from him). He's not even gonna save random people cause he's gonna be low honor anyway. I mean I'm probably gonna cave and make him do the Edith Downes missions in chapter 6 cause redemption (and John can’t do those anyway) but until then we're mean >=T

I’m also working on a timeline for mission events but it’s gonna be from the order that makes the most sense to me (nothing official) so I’ll be doing that as I play this time.

Alright, low honor blogging here we go.

So far I haven’t antagonized anyone but Kieran (which kills me T_T) but I just don’t wanna be mean to anyone and at least being mean to Kieran seems reasonable for canon reasons. But I also haven’t greeted anyone but Javier in Colter.

Chapter 2 I started with Swanson’s mission (which is what I always do anyway) and skipped poker, tried to be low honor and just shot the guy fighting Swanson then the witness but shooting the witness made a cop spawn and I failed. 

Moving on to Uncle’s mission, I don’t think there’s an option not to help the coach guy but it makes sense for Arthur to help cause the women are there. Now… Jimmy Brooks… sorry buddy… wish I could get the pen from him but oh well. I didn’t return the “borrowed” horse >=D

Javier telling me to hurry up because they have drinks waiting… *violently mashing to get Tommy OFF Arthur*  I’M A LITTLE BUSY BUDDY

I always get Kieran off the tree asap which would be next since it’s night as my face was being smushed into the mud. I’d say I’ll do that, then go get Sean. (I normally do Hosea and Strauss’ stuff after Kieran’s mission but I’m trying to do this more realistically. (give Charles a day or so to find out about Sean, give Javier and Trelawny some time to meet up with Charles (because Javier goes with Trelawny - for what, i don’t remember) So I’d say there’s enough time to start the next day, after the bar fight, with Kieran’s mission then maybe talk to Strauss about money lending, go to Painted Sky and get that done since it’s across the river then move on to Sean’s mission (leaving the Emerald Ranch debt and Downes for later) I’ll do the ER debt when me and Hosea go there later.

I just antagonized Bill after greeting him since he’s on guard duty when I came back and Arthur said “That ain’t good enough. Hello.” “Yes, hello Arthur.” Bill’s already done with my shit XD

Apparently that one time I greeted Javier back in Colter must have registered to the entire gang that I was nice because Bill was confused as heck as to why I was suddenly “acting like this” when I antagonized him the next morning so…. Gotta antagonize more… People I REFUSE to antagonize: Tilly, Charles, Mary-Beth, Karen, Hosea, Lenny, Abigail, and Jack. Everyone else is free game. Maybe I’ll antagonize some of them but I will never ever ever disrespect Tilly, Charles, Hosea, or Lenny… I love them too much… okay maybe not Abi either… (it’s hard being mean!)

I can already say (figuring out the timeline wise) I hate that I’m making myself do this because starting out Blackwater heist was May, Hosea says it’s still May, Arthur’s journal however (that he narrates as he writes it the next morning) says they’ve been running for WEEKS … BUT… there’s NO WAY Davey would’ve survived longer than three days with a gut shot wound… even three is pushing it but Dutch said he hasn’t slept for three days so logically they’ve been “running” for three days? unless he just took over driving for three days.. I DUNNO… This is way too fucking complicated… Why do I do this to myself…
