Tbh, I think there's only 3 characters in Ace Attorney that Franziska Von Karma actually hates:

Godot - he's a dick to her, including being misogynistic. I love this man (problematic fav), but Franziska has every right to hate him and I gotta side with her on this

Klavier Gavin - you'd think she'd like him because he's German too, but she hates that man. She finds him so annoying and unserious that she can't help but despise him. Also Ema hates him and you just know that Franziska and Ema are besties, so she's gotta be a bro and hate him too.

Nahyuta - I think she'd hate how he talks to Athena, Franziska was once a young female lawyer dealing with older, patronising, misogynistic men, so she hates his guts. Also, he mistreats Ema, and Franziska has her back

As for her favourite people (other than Edgeworth), here's who I think they are:

Maya Fey - I am a Franmaya shipper until the day that I die, so she has to adore her. Also I think that they would bring the best out in each other, and stand up for each other

Ema Skye - come on you know they'd be haters together. Also I think Ema would be Franziskas ideal detective: clever, no nonsense, and fun. Franziska would probably amuse Ema, and whilst she's not exactly furrowed of brow or cool of wit like Ema says a prosecutor should be, Franziska is awesome.

Simon Blackquill- again theyd be haters together. Also I think Franziska can respect a man who threatens people with violence and has a cool hawk. And maybe they'd both take it in turns to kiss Maya (I know I said I shipped Franmaya until the day that I die, but Maya has 2 hands), making them boyfriend-in-law and girlfriend-in-law

How has making your franmaya video essay been going? I loved your Manfred and Franziska videos. They're actually why I follow you on Tumblr. I make videos myself as a hobby, and I'm interested to hear your perspective on the process of making video essays

it's 99.9% done! my main artist is just finishing up some pieces and i like. love her art more than anything in the universe so i'm choosing to stuff as much of it into this video as i feasibly can.

i'm also just a hobbyist and it's give and take, labour of love, same as any creative hobby. i really love scripting and recording because i am a writer & a yapper but video editing is kinda like pulling teeth for me haha. i had soooo much more patience for it in my AMV making days when i was 13 but nowadays the demand to be creative or flashy with it tends to see me overthinking. i usually like meticulous work but something about video editing just doesn't do it for me.

that said it's still something i do because i enjoy the finished project so much. not even the work itself but the community engagement!!! my writing and art does not make people want to talk to me, befriend me, and share their thoughts sadly--but making videos does. and so that's one of the biggest things that keeps me going, i make art to create community and make friends and so far this has made me feel so much more fulfilled than my other creative endeavors.

overall, it's awesome! i love to talk and hear other people talk too :] and i love to yap about my favourite things.

A ship I have with said character: basic ass answer is franmaya... i do actually like them together, i think it could be a rlly fun dynamic to explore. also maya/regina was cute in case 2.3 (one of the only things i liked about it rip) i've seen some good maya/blackquill stuff before also but its not really something i ship just an interesting dynamic. in general though i dont really devote much time to shipping maya w anyone i think her canon platonic/familial relationships are already very interesting

A BROTP I have with said character: PHOENIX!!! nick and maya 4EVER they are so good. !!!!! i loveee their dynamic, they work so well together and really bounce off each other well. i also like the more serious aspect of how mia's death connected them and how they both share this grief even in very different ways. i like how even if mia hadn't died they still would've probably been friends when she introduced them :) anyway phoenix and maya are very fond of each other and i think it's really sweet - bridge to turnabout is one of my favorite cases in part bc of the very present bond between them and how much phoenix cares about maya (same w the engarde case, but that one is almost better in this regard bc of how maya's care for phoenix is also heavily present). also big fan of the silly part of their dynamic where maya steals his wallet and hits him over the head with evidence <3

another really interesting relationship that's less canonically present is maya & godot. what we see of them in bridge to turn about is soooo compelling, and i would have loved to see more of them. i think in a world where godot eventually gets out of prison he and maya could work to have some kind of relationship to both their benefit. <- its interesting how mia and mia's death is kind of a driving force for maya's connections to people, maya & mia is also deeply interesting and compelling but i could write an essay about them so i will just say that i love them a lot as well lol

A NOTP I have with said character: phoenix... dislike the age gap + i just think they're better as a platonic relationship lol. maya/phoenix is like the one aa tag i actually have filtered kjaskd

A random headcanon: if u assume that in aaverse lawyers are famous and there is law twitter fan spaces . maya 100% has an account where she posts "lawyer spotting" pics of phoenix (and also edgeworth). neither of them know abt it . maya is lawtwt famous

General Opinion over said character: I LOVE HERRRR she's the og aa weirdgirl !!! maya is very dear to me, she's definitely one of my favorite characters and i love seeing her. currently my friend and i are playing aa4 and i miss her so bad :'( maya in general is a very endearing character, and she + her family is a big driving force in the trilogy which i find very compelling. she's also just cool! i love it when teenage girls have weird superpowers! i think maya is a very caring character who is silly but has really impactful serious aspects to her which are so awesome to see <3 anyway i did draw maya every day for months last year so like yeah u could say i like her a normal amount lol

aa3 trials and tribulations

alright after dragging my heels to get four months out of a idk 35 hour game i have finished aa3. spoilery thoughts mostly about the last case bc i played the others months ago fjglhgkf

Positive stuff:

FRANZISKA... my mvp... I loved Franziska after aa2 but she was so great here, everything I could've wanted from her lmao. My best worst girl. I LOVED having her hang out with Phoenix fhlgfhgklf incredible, showstopping, spectacular. Their dynamic is sooo much fun and I also really liked seeing her interact with the witnesses outside of the courtroom, and how she tries to establish her authority but uses that authority to try and comfort them, etc -- she gets mad at Phoenix when he isn't complimentary enough of Sister Bikini lol, she takes control of the sacred cavern situation, she bullies Edgeworth into selfcare garden sulking after the earthquake, etc. It was really interesting and kind of sweet, in her way, it was nice to see that side of her. I can easier see how she and Adrian ended up with their weird gay thing although I have to admit Franmaya remains my Franziska ship of choice. (Just yesterday I was telling someone "I want Franziska to show Maya how to use her whip"... so close and yet so far Capcom.)

Defense attorney Edgeworth was awesome what a fun idea, and the Edgeworth/Franziska court battle ruled. I think I talked about it a lot at the time so I won't dwell much but lmao. wonderful. you're both sooooo bonkers

The Fey family drama! Cool af! Love a matriarchal society of women murdering each other. Amazing. I was spoiled for bits and pieces but not for Misty, which was a great surprise, I had expected they'd just leave that thread hanging but resolving it was the correct choice. I also loved that this game gave a bit more of a nod to Mia. I had said in my previous reaction post that I loved Mia having her own lil Moriarty in Dahlia and their showdown was so fun. Get her ass Mia. Pull each other's hair in the afterlife.

The actual plot mystery stuff in this case was great. I was able to do 3-4 and 3-5 without any walkthrough help AND without banging my head into a wall, which really does make it more fun, lol. You feel clever for solving it without feeling like it's being spoonfed. Or at least I didn't feel it was spoonfed :P and I guessed wrong about some things.

I loved Dahlia LMAO she was fr on the stand like "Your honour I was born evil and I died evil and I'm still evil now. Peace". I sort of expected she'd have mixed emotions at least about Iris but uh nope. Choose a way to born: Evil Baby. You could probably say something about AA returning to these cartoonishly evil villains to smooth over any of the ethical quandaries probably but tbh for the most part I just find it fun. Whatever. Cant a girl have hobbies (poisoning, failure).

Less positive stuff:

I was surprised and disappointed to not get a send-off epilogue screen for Edgeworth or Franziska 😔 they just kind of disappeared in the back end of the case, and while I don't have an issue focusing on the Feys in the end, the Edgeworth/Franziska stuff felt a bit unresolved to me, to not even get a few lines when Oldbag and Larry do. I guess Capcom wants me to play AAI (... sort of. not enough to port it or translate it :P).

Two finale cases in a row shelved Maya for a considerable portion. She got much more to do here, in the end -- her as Nick's last witness was very good, and obv she's central to the whole case -- than in 2-4, but I still felt her absence.

And I do wish we'd gotten to see more of Edgeworth and Phoenix interacting - they're sort if implied to be spending time off screen but I would like to see it.jpeg, I thought he was gonna be a more active part of the case after trial day 1. Since AA1 it often feels like the game is juggling characters so I can have like, one fave with me at a time but not more lol. Rude.

The Iris/Phoenix stuff was 🙄 I realize it's futile to be mad about like, token heterosexuality in a 20+ year old video game, but 🙄 lol. Also naturally I spent most of the game believing Dahlia had grudgingly put up with Feenie while dreaming of murder for 8 months and that's so much funnier than the truth turned out to be, lmao. Her eternal torment.

I couldn't stand Godot lmao I didn't like him at the start of the game and by the end I hated him. His gimmick was boring to me at best, I found him deeply condescending and sexist in the case with Mia, and then obviously 3-5 just sent all of that overdrive. The upswing was that he was the killer so that was satisfying for me lmfao. Throw the book at him judge.

Overall:

I see why this is often called the best game. The overarching stories all tied together well, I can see how the cases of the week led into the finale even if I hated one of em (mask de masque do NOT interact), the puzzles are good while being solvable, and there are some really really great fun moments of character stuff in here for almost everyone.

Having said that, I think the first game is still my fave. Its comparatively limited scope meant each major character got their moment, Maya and Edgeworth are my besties and it's the only time I actually got to have both of them around at the same time. And Turnabout Goodbyes is just so good and so is Rise from the Ashes.

I'm sad the trilogy is over 😔 while I wait for 4-6 to get ported I'll play TGAA and AAI, but not sure in which order, and in either case I'm gonna miss my best friend Phoenix Wright. Luv u buddy

11, 14, 15, 16, 23 and 24 for the fandom year review, please! ;D

Biggest squee moments of the year (For ye youths who no longer use such awesome terminology, that means the fandom moments that made your heart cry out in overwhelming joy. Can y’all believe that “squee” didn’t quite stand the test of time??)

I am currently reading through Post-Crisis Superman comics in roughly chronological order. And pretty much every time, Clark and Lois have a cute moment, I just sit there with my face in my hands grinning like a schoolgirl. I was particularly giddy when they got engaged. I am not sure that this entirely counts as a squee moment of the year--considering that it literally happened a few years before I was even born. But it was arguably the squee moment for me this year discovering it years later.

In terms of moments that actually did happen this year, Sir Pentious ending up in Heaven in Hazbin Hotel. And the long-awaited Wicked movie being as good as I hoped it would. (Also it was cute, because there were a bunch of people in my theater that dressed up for it. I sort of did too--since I wore a Wizard of Oz shirt and my ruby slipper socks. It just made my heart so full to see people excited about movies again).

Favorite m/f ship of the year

Yeah, it's still Elena/Esteban. Even though Esteban had some actual real competition as my current blorbo this year, they are still the het ship for me even if they are on my mind less. That being said, Clark Kent/Lois Lane are giving them a bit of a run for their money, and I can't wait to be obsessed with them when the new movie comes out next Summer.

Favorite f/f ship of the year

Regrettably, I've never really had nearly as many femmslash ships as I do het and/or slash ones--and amongst the few that I do have, I tend to be less passionate about them overall.

It doesn't help that on the rare ocassions that I get into a fandom with a sizeable femmslash community...I tend to be indifferent to--if not outright dislike-- the most popular pairing (tbf this is also usually the case with het and slash dominant fandoms) and the possible f/f ships that do ping my radar are even rarer than usual by my rare-pair obsessed standards. And so it's hard to get more excited about a ship that I'm at best casually interested in when no one else seems to be.

In terms of canon ships, Charlie/Vaggie from Hazbin Hotel is kind of cute. And in terms of more mainstream and "popular" ships (lol see what I did there), I was really feeling the Elphaba/Glinda vibes from the Wicked movie, even though I never really had been into them in the past. I also have seen a rise in Kay Faraday/Franziska von Karma shipping due to the AAI collection release--which makes me really happy as I've always liked that ship. (especially when compared to their fanom default options of franmaya and kayema.)

In terms of ships that I personally have thought most about in my mind even if nobody else seems to/haven't done much about, Chloe/Maliga from Elena of Avalor.

Favorite m/m ship of the year

Much as I want to say that it's still krisnix or even estevictor (and I still do love them and think about them a lot), I really can't give this spot to any ship except Jason Todd/Dick Grayson from Batman/the DCU in general. I am vibrating them in my mind and thinking about them so much.

The most missed of your old fandoms

While I am still involved in the Ace Attorney fandom, I wish I was still as intensely focused and passionate about it as I used to be (and was for awhile). It's currently a really great time to be an AA fan given that there is a lot of enthusiasm due to the recent AJ collection and AAI collection ports. So many people are discovering the ships, characters, and games that are some of my very favorites and I wish I was "all in" with them--as we need the spark.

While I am again still in the fandom and it never exactly reached true "hyperfixation" levels for me, I also wish I was more hyped/involved with the BBC Father Brown Cinematic Universe fandom. It's definitely one of the nicest fandoms I'd been involved with and honestly, we get so much attention/fanservice from the writers that it's seriously unreal. It really is a "happy place" for me, which is why I wish I could be insane about it for longer than a month or so each year (after the next season drops).

Fandom resolutions for next year

Finish (and post) a dang fanfiction. I had a little goal with myself last year to post one of the very many Elena of Avalor fics that I started by Christmas. That did not happen and even after an entire year went by, I still didn't finish any of my many works-in-progress. (I did however start a few new ones to add to the already massive pile).

Find more femmslash ships that I can be just as obsessed/unhinged about as my het-and slash faves. It's already an underappreciated side of the fandom and I feel like I should do my part toward spreading lady love. I know I can do it, because it took me forever to find slash ships that I shipped more than casually. (It turns out I just disliked pretty much of all the popular ships and it was a matter of finding the right rare pairs.)

Catch up on some of the fandoms that I enjoy but haven't been following as closely (particularly the last season of What We do in the Shadows and multiple seasons of Doctor Who. (I watched and enjoyed most (all?) of Thirteen's first season but haven't watched anything since even if I have heard very mixed things about both the rest of the Chibnall run and the second RTD run).)

I haven't giffed anything in *months* and even though it's a lot of work, I do enjoy it and think I've gotten okay. (Nowhere near good enough for a "big" fandom but just good enough/one of the few people who does for my small-midsized fandoms.)

How I feel about this character:

maya my best friend.. for such an upbeat character, shes actually super well written and i enjoy her a lot!!! i think she deserves better

All the people I ship romantically with this character:

franmaya what do you take me for.. BUT although that is definitely my main ship for her, farafey, feyskye, maya x penny, maya x regina are also pretty cool and should get more attention imo.

Alright so like first of all they're just. They're cute. They're both so damn cute. And they're cute together. Look at them. Their dynamic is fun because they're both stupid in completely different ways. Their personalities complement each other really well, I think. Sunshine x Sunshine protector.

But the most important thing is just how alike they are, even if it's not immediately apparent on the surface. It's the parallels. They both have the expectation of a family legacy thrust upon them, be it being the most perfect prosecutor or the master of Kurain, it's the same thing at its core. Even if their dynamics are expressed in different ways, the relationship they have with their respective brother figures are also very similar.

Franziska and Maya are the only people who can truly understand each other.

I think the main thing keeping people from shipping them to the extent of, say, narumitsu or klapollo, is just that they lack a lot of meaningful interactions in canon. But when you look at the few interactions they do have, I think it's easy to see the legs from that alone. One of the first things Maya says about Franziska is that she thinks she's really cool and they could be friends (this is while she's prosecuting her for murder). There's the iconic little bit at the end of Bridge to the Turnabout where Maya glares at her until she's nice about Larry's art. And, you know, Franziska spends a lot of time trying to break the locks when she thinks Maya is stuck in the inner temple.

More recently, it's gotten a lot more popular, and for good reason. I'm old enough to remember when Franziska/Adrian was the far more popular ship, and while I understand where that comes from, it just doesn't hit the same for me.

But, most importantly, they're just two of my favorites and I like seeing them interact. At its core is that not what shipping is about?

Why I like them:

What’s not to like? She’s perfect! But seriously, she’s a badass and her growth from AA2 to the Investigations games makes her one of the most interesting characters of AA, imo.

Why I don’t:

I’ll admit that sometimes she can be a bit unreasonable and attack people for minor things, but considering her past and the reasons she acts the way she does, I think I can let it slide. But also she sometimes treats Gumshoe like trash, and he doesn’t deserve that. Give Gumshoe a raise 2k19

Favorite episode/season/movie/etc:

There are so many good moments, but I guess I’ll go with 2-4, especially the ending with Miles. It shows her turning point, where she realizes that she has to rethink what her father’s actions and the von Karma legacy means to her and how she can move on from that.

Favorite line:

Again, haven’t played AA in a while so I can’t remember anything specific, so instead I’ll just name one of my favorite moments with her: when she sympathizes with Sebastian after he finds out the truth about his father. That gave me The Feels

Favorite outfit:

Pretty sure she only has the one outfit, but I love that design. It fits the von Karma aesthetic but it’s so much better and less ridiculous than Miles’ or Manfred’s outfits.

OTP:

Franmaya! They’re really cute together and I think Maya’s enthusiasm could show her that it’s okay to relax and have fun every once in a while.

BroTP:

Her and Miles is the obvious choice here, but I’m gonna go with Franziska and Lang instead, I love them so much. It’s pretty subtle in the Investigations games but I think they have sort of become friends working in Interpol together and especially in AAI2 Lang obviously respects her and vice versa.

Headcanon:

We haven’t seen her since AAI2 because she’s working with Interpol as an international prosecutor now and she’s too busy to deal with Phoenix and Miles

Honestly Gecko, curse you for putting this AU into my brain, because now I’m thinking about it way too hard.

Like if we get rid of the romantic implications for Farquaad, Manfred would fit that role perfectly, and Miles being Fiona works really well, maybe he locked himself away because of his monstrousness which he thinks caused his fathers death, and Manfred needs him to get the throne.

Also Franziska could fill the role of dragon, which has some awesome thematic implications when you consider that it was dragon who killed Farquaad. (And this would allow for both NaruMitsu, and FranMaya in this AU.)

Also! Shrek 2 could have either Dahlia or Kristoph as Prince Charming.

The only struggle is Phoenix to Shrek, but it’s an AU anyways so I think it could be stretched.

It would also work super well with Klapollo too.
