Alley Cat Allies Earns 4 Stars from Charity Navigator + More Important Updates
Alley Cat Allies Again Earns 4 Stars from Charity Navigator
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Amazing news! Alley Cat Allies earned the coveted Charity Navigator 4-star rating—the highest level of recognition—for the 11th consecutive year!
This achievement shows our commitment to transparency in everything we do with our supporters’ donations. Our donors can be confident that every gift has a direct, lifesaving impact for cats and kittens.
Your generosity protects cats every day: alleycat.org/Donate.
We Won’t Stop Speaking Out for Waconia Cats
Tumblr media
In a dangerous and irresponsible move, Waconia, Minnesota, passed a cat leash law—and applied other unrealistic and ineffective measures to cats.
Alley Cat Allies wrote a letter urging the Waconia City Council to oppose these amendments to its ordinance, which added cats slapdash to laws regulating dogs. Unfortunately, the amendments passed regardless.
We aren’t done: We’re going to take action to protect Waconia’s cats—especially community cats, who are at the most risk from the city’s decision.
Our Veterinarian Training Program™ Kicked Off in Saint Kitts
Tumblr media
Recently, Alley Cat Allies was on the Island of Saint Kitts educating veterinarians and veterinary students at the Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine on lifesaving Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) for community cats.
Meeting and helping to train the rising generation of veterinarians was beyond inspiring—the future of our movement to protect all cats looks bright.
(Ross University students have a great appreciation for community cats, with active groups focused on community cat care and education on campus. The regal T’Challa, a campus community cat, is something of a legend!)
And that’s what the new Alley Cat Allies Veterinarian Training Program™ is all about; equipping the veterinarians of today AND tomorrow with the techniques, knowledge, and drive to protect cats who live outdoors just as much as those who live indoors. High-quality, high-volume spay and neuter and TNR are the primary focuses of this lifesaving program.
Keeping Families Together™ with a Successful Food Bank in Atlantic County
Tumblr media
By supporting no-cost resources for cats, we’re Keeping Families Together™!
Alley Cat Allies helped develop a no-cost food bank for cats in Atlantic County, New Jersey, that has provided tens of thousands of pounds of dry cat food and hundreds of cases of canned food in just the past year. We provide food bank support in multiple communities to help both indoor and community cats.
Looking for no-cost cat food near you? Our state-by-state Animal Food Bank Directory can help: alleycat.org/FoodBank.
ADOPTED! Talley Goes from the Edge of Death to a Loving New Home
Watching Talley make biscuits, happy and comfortable, is incredibly gratifying—because not long ago, she faced death in a shelter with a horrible lethal policy.
Alley Cat Allies rescued Talley and provided her with the veterinary care, safe space, and love she needed to recover and show her true colors.
We’re thrilled to announce that Talley recently found her forever home (and immediately relaxed into her new family’s hands!). Our amazing, compassionate supporters are the reason we can save cats like Talley every day, and we can’t thank you enough.
Fire Cats Mona and Phoenix are Up for Adoption
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you’ve been following us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or LinkedIn, you know that Mona and Phoenix are survivors of the Texas Panhandle wildfires. The Alley Cat Allies Rapid Response team rescued them from the area with singed whiskers and smoke inhalation and ensured they recuperated with critical veterinary care.
Now they’re feeling better and have shown their true, incredibly sweet personalities. They’re ready for the next step in their journey—could it be with your family?

Rubble Update after Texas Wildfires
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You’d never guess that not long ago, Rubble was rescued with symptoms of smoke inhalation in the aftermath of the Texas Panhandle fires. He’s the sweetest and most chill guy!
Alley Cat Allies took on Rubble’s care, as well as that of other fire-affected cats. That’s on top of providing critical support, veterinary care, and supplies for other indoor cats, community cats, and dogs impacted by the disaster.
Throwback: Miso and Her Kittens
Enjoy this throwback video of Miso and her kittens, Butternut, Bisque, Noodle, Chowder, Bouillon and adopted kitten Minestrone. From day one until adoption earlier this year, YOUR support protected them all!

We had to reach out immediately with a crucial update in our fight to save cats living outdoors on the famous Paseo del Morro in Puerto Rico. The U.S. National Park Service (NPS) has been pushing a reckless and deadly plan to remove and eradicate these cats, but Alley Cat Allies is taking historic action to stop it. We filed a federal lawsuit to stop the plan, and we’re providing further care and support to protect them.
We need your help to keep up this critical, lifesaving work. Please make a gift now to have it TRIPLED to make a difference for cats and kittens in Puerto Rico and beyond. Our match is live right now, and we’re counting on caring advocates like you to help make the most of this powerful opportunity to protect even more cats from harm.
Here’s where we stand in our work for Paseo del Morro’s community cats: We know that NPS’s plan will rip cats away from their outdoor home in this popular travel destination. Worse, the plan will kill scores of cats. These cats have lived peacefully in Paseo del Morro for generations, are woven into the fabric of Puerto Rico’s culture, and are deeply beloved by local residents and visitors alike.
die
you fuckers will raise thousands of dollars to stop the protection of native wildlife but won't do anything to actually keep cats indoors where they don't suffer or drive more wildlife to extinction.

I dont usually post charity related stuff, but this is important. Please sign the petition to save these cats from being murdered in Puerto rico. They deserve to live just as much as any of us do. Its free. There are options to donate elsewhere on the site, but this is free to do. A free act to saved sacred precious cottons’ lives. I signed it.

Lawsuit Aims to Stop National Park Service from Removing Cats from San Juan Site
A feline advocacy group filed a legal challenge this week against the National Park Service over its plan to remove cats from the San Juan National Historic Site in Puerto Rico. The Maryland-based nonprofit Alley Cat Allies filed the lawsuit on Wednesday arguing that the Park Service’s plan is not just “cruel, futile, and unlawful” […]

Batman #18
This is more erotic than Batman's rooftop humpfest with Selina.
Looks like Bane's back on the dope! Plus we're finally getting a story about Mommy Issues! About fucking time, DC. I've had it up to my prostate with Daddy Issues.
King gives us a little back story on Bane and Bruce to set up the conflict. After they both lost their mothers tragically (which totally makes them the same person who experienced the same trauma and thus are the same except for the next difference that I'll be getting to outside of this parenthetical reference), Bruce was sent to live in a mansion with a butler where he could become a responsible, strong, obsessive man with a death wish while Bane was shoved in an oubliette that flooded daily where he could become a psychotic drug user with a Mexican wrestling fetish. See? They'd be samesies if it weren't for Bruce's privilege. I hope he acknowledges it in his encounter with Bane so everything will then be okay and they can become friends. Although I assume Bane will just say something like "So what? Now you deserve an ally cookie?!" or maybe just break Batman's face. Both young Bruce and Bane are really fucking into their mothers. It's creepy. Or is it normal? Is that how kids react when they lose their mother? I would have thought there would be more drinking and piñatas.
No, you're a drug addict in a luchador mask. Your past is no more compelling than any of the other people you're currently denigrating and writing off.
So Batman's entire plan to distract Bane for five days is to get his ass beaten by him? For five days straight? This is going to go well. You know what might have been a good idea? Instead of asking Superman to babysit the Robins while they're in cryogenic stasis, maybe get Superman to put Bane in stasis for five days. No? I suppose there's less chance of a lawsuit kidnapping and restraining your children than doing that to a convicted criminal threatening you with death. Bane says he's also not some rich boy playing dress-up. So I guess he does know Batman's secret identity and thus the location of the Bat-cave. I can't keep straight who knows and who doesn't know. Why should Batman even care at this point? Enough people know that the information is probably all over the Internet in hilarious meme form. Bane beats the shit out of Batman but Batman refuses to give Psycho Pirate back to Bane. So Bane tells Room Service to kill the hostages. Uh oh! Batman better have a back-up plan! Like how he could have had that Superman back-up plan I mentioned earlier. Oh come on! Who didn't think he had a back-up plan? Show of hands? See? No hands! I mean, I couldn't see them even if there were any but I'm certain their weren't any. Mostly because even if some of you thought he didn't have a back-up plan and this series was about to end, you'd probably be too embarrassed to admit it.
Get it?! Cats beat birds! Duh! It's evologic! That's a combination of evolution and logic, in case you're one of those dum-dums who occasionally and accidentally read one of my reviews.
Catwoman has strung up Room Service, Housekeeping, and Night Clerk back in Bane's safehouse and clawed "I am cat" into their chests. Then Batman heads into Arkham and Bane follows him. Good for Bane! He never even stops to say that stupid thing about it probably being a trap and then going in anyway. He just kicks the motherfucking door down and gets on with it. The Ranking! No change! I almost gave it a +1 because it ended so well with Catwoman's flexing line that I was all positive and upbeat about it. But then I remembered all the flashback sequences with Bruce and Bane saying, "Mommy this!" and "Mother that!" Fuck that shit. It was annoying. P.S. I just noticed I didn't complain about David Finch's inability to draw the mouth of a man this issue. So, um, good job, Dave? I guess?

Waconia, Minnesota: Reject Amendments That Place Cats in Danger
Alley Cat Allies sent the following letter to the city council of Waconia, Minnesota, to protect indoor and community cats from dangerous amendments to the local city code. Right now, Waconia is proposing adding cats into laws crafted for dog-related issues, which leaves cats open to dangerous requirements that don’t acknowledge their nature and place in our communities.
We are offering our expertise and support in establishing lifesaving Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) in Waconia and crafting an ordinance that protects community cats, caregivers, and TNR.
Dear Mayor Waldron and Waconia City Council:
On behalf of Alley Cat Allies and our supporters in and around Waconia, I am writing to ask for the immediate rejection of dangerous proposed requirements for cats in amendments to Chapter 560 of the Waconia City Code. These include requiring cats to be leashed or licensed, which is impossible to enforce and fails to acknowledge community cats, or unowned cats who live outdoors. Alley Cat Allies asks that the City of Waconia instead enacts effective, lifesaving policies like Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR).
Alley Cat Allies is the leader of the global movement to protect cats and kittens. Founded in 1990, we work toward a world where every cat is valued, and every community has policies and programs to defend them. Alley Cat Allies regularly educates and acts with lawmakers, animal shelters, and the public to change attitudes and advance laws and policies that best serve the interests of cats.
We want Waconia to know that dogs and cats are very different animals with very different relationships to people and our communities. Cats cannot be slapdash inserted into laws tailored to dog-related concerns.
Laws requiring cats to be leashed are ineffective, impossible to enforce, and incompatible with TNR, the only humane and effective approach to community cats. If Waconia agrees to a leash requirement for cats, it will only result in cats being impounded and killed and/or the penalization of compassionate Waconia residents spending their own time, energy, and money to care for community cats.
Under a leash law, any cat not wearing a leash outdoors is a visible target. There is no reliable way to distinguish between a community cat, an owned cat allowed outdoors, and an indoor-only cat who is unintentionally outdoors. All of these cats will therefore be at risk, along with the people who care for them.
Similarly, community cats do not have owners to provide them with licenses or tags or to clean up after them if they defecate on public or private properties. However, the proposed amendments will include cats in laws regulating these matters for dogs. The penalty could only fall on caregivers of community cats, who are not the cats’ owners but good Samaritans providing a community service.
If Waconia’s goal is to address community complaints or disputes, that is better accomplished through facilitating discussions in pursuit of positive outcomes for the cats and people involved. If the goal is to address populations of cats outside, The City of Waconia needs to know that community cats are at home outdoors, and it is their natural environment. They have no owner to leash them, and they generally cannot be adopted into indoor homes.
Instead, the city is best served by supporting TNR and low- and no-cost spay and neuter.
Through TNR, community cats are humanely trapped, spayed or neutered, vaccinated, eartipped for identification, and returned to their outdoor homes. TNR stops the breeding cycle so no new kittens are born, improves cats’ health, and eliminates mating behaviors such as yowling, spraying, roaming, and fighting. TNR also reduces shelter intake and calls to animal services, providing immediate community benefits and saving taxpayer dollars.
For all the reasons above, Alley Cat Allies again urges the City of Waconia to reject the proposed amendments and offers our support to draft new language that protects community cats, community cat caregivers, and TNR. We also offer our support to help Waconia establish an effective TNR program and further humane policies. Thank you for your consideration.

Alley Cat Allies Applauds Court’s Sanctioning of Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department and Animal Control
BERKELEY COUNTY, W.Va. – Aug. 10, 2023 – Alley Cat Allies applauds rulings by Berkeley County, W.Va., Circuit Court Judge Michael Lorensen sanctioning the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department in a case related to a West Virginia Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request for public records from the sheriff’s department. The rulings are a step towards needed transparency to protect animals from potentially cruel practices at the Berkeley County Animal Shelter.
The court previously ruled that the sheriff’s department was required to disclose documents from Berkeley County Animal Control that Alley Cat Allies first requested under FOIA on December 20, 2021. In its most recent ruling, dated July 28, 2023, the court sanctioned the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department for failing to comply with the FOIA request, after having previously compelled the sheriff’s department to allow public inspection of documents from animal control, pursuant to the FOIA request.
“The court’s ruling reinforces what we already know to be true in West Virginia – that public agencies including Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department and Animal Control are accountable to the public, especially when it comes to protecting animals from cruelty while in the county’s care,” said Timothy Hyland, the attorney for Alley Cat Allies in this case.
Alley Cat Allies requested records from Berkeley County Animal Control after an Alley Cat Allies investigation in 2021-2022 uncovered violations of animal cruelty laws at the county shelter. Alley Cat Allies sought 17 categories of public records involving the sheriff’s department’s treatment of animals. Requested records involve Berkeley County Animal Control’s use of firearms to euthanize, or kill, animals; disposal of animals it kills; training or lack of training for animal control officers; and documents related to the sheriff’s department’s efforts to undermine Alley Cat Allies, after Alley Cat Allies had alerted the public to the agency’s systemic cruelty against cats. With the court’s ruling, these records were required to be shared with Alley Cat Allies, and the court ordered the sheriff’s department to reimburse the attorneys’ fees incurred by Alley Cat Allies in its action to enforce the Freedom of Information Act.
The rulings referenced above came in court case number CC-02-2022-C-54.
About Alley Cat Allies
Alley Cat Allies is the leader of the global movement to protect and improve the lives of cats and kittens. Now in our 34th anniversary year, we are joined by nearly 1 million supporters worldwide.
Alley Cat Allies believes every cat deserves to live out his or her life to the fullest. We exposed an entrenched system in which animal control agencies and shelters have been killing millions of cats for over a century. Today, the programs we introduced in the United States are mainstream.
To achieve our goals, we collaborate with grassroots advocates, animal shelters, municipal managers, and lawmakers to replace deadly laws and policies with ones that protect cats. We defend all cats by offering cutting edge education online, in person, and through one-on-one dialogue. We advance lifesaving innovations such as Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) and Shelter-Neuter-Return (SNR), high-quality, high-volume spay and neuter, microchipping, anti-declawing legislation, and any program that best serves the interests of cats.

From the Field: A Powerful Protest to Protect Puerto Rico's Cats
youtube
We had an incredible, impactful week of protecting cats and peaceful protest in Puerto Rico!
Our on-the-ground team worked day and night on the famous Paseo del Morro to help provide nutritious food to the beloved community cats who live there, as well as humanely trap cats who needed veterinary care. We’re gearing up to do it all again soon.
While carrying cats in traps through the streets of Old San Juan en route to the veterinarian, we were stopped multiple times by people who knew what we were doing there. They expressed their gratitude for our action to stop the U.S. National Park Service (NPS) from removing and killing their cats.
Tumblr media
If you’re tuning into what is happening in Puerto Rico for the first time, here is the summary: The NPS announced a plan to eradicate community cats living on the San Juan National Historic Site in Puerto Rico. Most of the cats are living in peace along the Paseo del Morro, a popular trail and tourist destination in the historic site. This horrific plan will result in cats being killed.
Harming these cats is also contrary to the will of Puerto Rican people, who have spoken out in strong opposition to the NPS’s plan. They recognize the Paseo del Morro cats as the community members they are and consider their presence a facet of Puerto Rico’s rich history and culture.
We weren’t only approached by locals, however. Quite a few visitors to the island (many tourists specifically come to Old San Juan to see the famous cats) approached to ask questions and were inspired to join us. Of course, we had our expert educational materials at the ready to let them know how to protect Puerto Rico’s cats, as well as cats in their own communities.
Rounding off the week, our latest protest in San Juan with Puerto Rican cat advocates was bigger and more inspiring than ever! Together, we’re telling the U.S. government and the world loud and clear: the lives of Puerto Rico’s cats have inherent value, and cruel action against them will not be tolerated.
Tumblr media
Our work is not over. The NPS isn’t backing down on its cruel plan, but neither are we in our fight to stop it. Alley Cat Allies’ lawsuit against the NPS is still active and we are rallying compassionate advocates in Puerto Rico and around the world to join us.
San Juan community cats like Gizmo, Don Ramon, Llorin, and Bella are counting on our voices and our action.
Tumblr media
You can become part of the Worldwide Protest to protect Puerto Rico’s cats at alleycat.org/PuertoRico.
Right now, you can:

Alley Cat Allies Continues Worldwide Protest to Stop U.S. National Park Service (NPS) from Killing Puerto Rico Cats
Tumblr media
Alley Cat Allies, the leader of the global movement to protect cats and kittens, held another protest in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on February 15 to continue its worldwide call to stop the U.S. National Park Service (NPS) from removing and killing the community cats who live on the famous Paseo del Morro.
“With a ruling expected soon on Alley Cat Allies’ lawsuit to stop the NPS from killing San Juan’s cats, we’re calling for a louder and stronger public outcry,” said Charlene Pedrolie, president and chief operating officer of Alley Cat Allies. “Our protests in San Juan prove that Puerto Ricans strongly condemn the removal of their community’s cats, and so do compassionate people worldwide. Now, we are taking our fight even further.”
Tumblr media
The protest took place at the Plaza de la Catedral in San Juan starting at 9:00 a.m. AST. People around the world are urged to join in by posting messages of support for the Paseo del Morro cats on social media with #SaveSanJuanCats and by sharing Alley Cat Allies’ posts and information to raise awareness about the NPS’s cruel plan.
Alley Cat Allies filed a federal lawsuit in March of 2024 to challenge and end the NPS’s plan to eradicate cats living outdoors on the Paseo del Morro, a popular trail and tourist destination that is part of the San Juan National Historic Site. Now, online and on the ground in Puerto Rico, Alley Cat Allies is mobilizing people around the world to speak out in support of the cats’ right to live and against the NPS’s deadly action.
Additionally, Alley Cat Allies is providing food and veterinary care to the cats on the Paseo del Morro.
Anyone who wants to join the worldwide protest to protect Puerto Rico’s cats can learn how to take action at alleycat.org/PuertoRico.
Alley Cat Allies urges all who value the lives of these cats to be part of its critical fight against cruelty and injustice.

24 Ways We Worked to Protect Cats in 2024
Happy almost New Year! We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to you for helping us protect and save cats’ lives every single day. Your compassion, dedication, and action make an incredible impact, and we’re truly grateful to have you with us in our mission to build a world where ALL cats are valued and protected.
Even as we prepare for all the work ahead, we’re also reflecting on the incredible change we accomplished together this year.
Here are 24 ways (there are many, many more!) we worked on behalf of cats in 2024:
1. We Took Historic Legal Action to Protect Community Cats in Puerto Rico
youtube
If not for Alley Cat Allies and our supporters like you, a deadly removal of community cats in Puerto Rico would be underway right now.
The United States National Park Service (NPS), which announced intention to eradicate cats from the San Juan National Historic Site late in 2023, planned to start ripping cats from their outdoor homes as early as October 1, 2024.
Alley Cat Allies’ legal efforts—including launching a historic lawsuit against the NPS in March 2024—and refusal to back down forced the NPS to agree to halt all movement on its cruel plan until a federal court decision in 2025. Cats like Bella, Mufasina, and Llorin are still eating, sleeping, and playing amid the surf-swept rocks of their outdoor home because of our action—and our supporters like you who make it possible.
We will continue our fight until the NPS abandons its inhumane and illegal plan permanently, and community cats in Puerto Rico are protected and supported as the community members they are.
2. We Launched Our Community Resource Tool™
Tumblr media
The Alley Cat Allies Community Resource Tool is here to help advocates like you protect the cats who are your community. With a few clicks, you can find lifesaving resources for cats in your area including low-cost spay and neuter clinics, cat food banks, and more.
Cats Are Community™ and deserve a community that supports them. With our Community Resource Tool, you can discover local cat advocates and access assistance that benefits cats whether they live outdoors or indoors.
3. We Helped Win a Major Victory for Ohio Cats
Tumblr media
Alley Cat Allies’ amicus brief helped inform a critical Ohio Supreme Court decision for cats and kittens. The court ruled that Ohio’s companion animal cruelty law protects all cats, including community cats who are unowned and live outdoors, as “companion animals.”
This is a major victory for cats throughout Ohio and ensures community cats are protected equally under animal cruelty laws.
4. Our Rapid Response Team Saved Cats During Historic Texas Fires
Tumblr media
With smoke still choking the air and charred landscape on either side of them, an Alley Cat Allies Rapid Response Team drove directly into the Texas communities most impacted by the historic Smokehouse Creek Fire to deliver lifesaving support for cats and kittens. We connected with local advocates to aid recovery efforts and provided critical care for smoke inhalation and burn wounds to cats like Rubble, Mona, and Phoenix.
5. We Kicked off Our Veterinarian Training Program™
Tumblr media
Growing a powerful movement means ensuring the next generation is ready to take up the lifesaving mantle. That’s why we launched the Alley Cat Allies Veterinarian Training Program, starting in the Caribbean islands of Saint Kitts and Nevis!
The goal of our Veterinarian Training Program is to help both experienced and novice veterinarians bring the most effective TNR techniques to their communities to save more lives.
6. We Provided TNR and Food to Thousands of Atlantic County Cats
Tumblr media
In 2024, Alley Cat Allies funded spay and neuter, including through Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR), and other lifesaving care for more than 3000 community cats and indoor cats in Atlantic County, New Jersey. We also provided food to an incredible 600 community cats per day through a first-of-its-kind community cat food bank in the county.
In 2025, our work with the Humane Society of Atlantic County is moving forward to bring critical care to thousands more cats and kittens.
7. We Helped Hundreds of Tennessee Cats with Feline Frenzy®
Tumblr media
The Alley Cat Allies Feline Frenzy in Lebanon, Tennessee, this year reached hundreds of indoor and community cats with spay and neuter and vaccinations! On top of that milestone, hundreds more cats received ongoing cat food support—all covered by Alley Cat Allies.
8. We Filed a Lawsuit to Stop the Illegal Killing of Cats in Summit County, Ohio
Tumblr media
Alley Cat Allies filed a lawsuit in the Court of Common Pleas against Summit County, Ohio, and its county-operated animal shelter to stop the needless, cruel, and illegal killing of cats.
The Summit County Animal Control Department is an entity meant to uphold the laws. Instead, it is improperly and inhumanely ‘euthanizing’ animals and killing cats for simply being deemed ‘feral’.
Stopping the senseless and inhumane killing of cats is our top priority.
9. We Are Providing Legal Support to Achieve Justice for Juliet
Alley Cat Allies is providing prosecution support to achieve justice for Juliet, who was tortured and killed in Hamilton, Ohio. Surveillance video revealed that Juliet was shoved into a garbage bag and then slammed violently on the ground by the perpetrator.
We’ll keep you updated as the case moves forward.
10. We Offered a Reward to Find Who Shot George the Cat
youtube
In a horrific act of senseless cruelty, George the cat was shot in the back leg with a shotgun in Henrietta Township, Ohio. He survived his injury but was so badly maimed that his leg had to be surgically amputated. Alley Cat Allies covered the costs of his procedure and he has since recovered.
We offered a sizable reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for shooting George.
11. We Helped Granite Shoals Adopt a TNR Ordinance
The ordinance, which had heavy input from Alley Cat Allies, officially protects TNR and community cats in the Texas city. This step forward came just months after disturbing comments about shooting, poisoning, and killing cats were made by the former Granite Shoals City Manager and a wildlife advisory committee.
Today, we continue to support TNR in Granite Shoals!
12. We Responded After Back-to-Back Hurricanes
Tumblr media
In fall 2024, Alley Cat Allies provided lifesaving care to cats and kittens impacted by both Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton. Cats like Jack, Flash, and Toffee were been swept from disaster zones in Florida and into safe spaces to recover thanks to our disaster response in collaboration with advocates, organizations, and veterinarians on the ground in impacted communities.
13. We Celebrated Our Biggest Global Cat Day and National Feral Cat Day Yet
youtube
On October 13, we inspired advocates the world over to share the global truth that Cats Are Community, and highlighted communities that are leading with lifesaving, evidence-based Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) programs from Tennessee to France.
Global Cat Day and National Feral Cat Day continue to grow, as does our movement!
14. We Gave Advocates the Tools to Share the Truth
Tumblr media
The truth is one of our movement’s most powerful tools to save cats and kittens. Misinformation costs millions of cats their lives every year, and Alley Cat Allies works to set the record straight.
Our new Share the Truth resource, including a pocket guide, is spreading the facts about cats across the nation and around the world.
15. We Defended Community Cat Caregivers
Alley Cat Allies took swift legal action when a community cat caregiver in Parma, Ohio, was threatened with nearly one year of jail time and over $2,000 in fines for doing TNR in her community. An attorney working with Alley Cat Allies represented the caregiver in court and, in October, all charges against her were dismissed.
16. Mr. Meow Got Justice
Tumblr media
In September 2024, Colton Fontes was sentenced to 14 years in prison for felony animal cruelty related to killing tabby cat Mr. Meow in 2022 and several other highly disturbing charges including rape and sexual battery.
Alley Cat Allies was involved in the case from the beginning, attended court hearings, communicated with the Mr. Meow’s family, and brought the case to further public attention. According to the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office, the investigation into the shooting and killing of Mr. Meow helped make Fontes’ arrest for the other charges possible.
17. We Exposed Misrepresentation of TNR and Community Cats
Alley Cat Allies was compelled to address the shockingly biased, dangerously misinformed, and often downright insulting portrayal of Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR), community cats, and the people who care for and protect them in a pieces published in The New Yorker and Forbes.
18. We Exposed How Opposition to TNR is Leading to Lethal Action
youtube
In our video, we showed our supporters around the world how Alley Cat Allies is fighting opposition to TNR, correcting dangerous disinformation about cats, and saving cats’ lives. We won’t back down until every cat is valued and protected as the community member they are.
19. We Saved Maximus With Unique Surgery
Tumblr media
Maximus (AKA Maximus Decimus Merkitteus) is a young cat is full of life and love for anyone and everyone, and has never met a stranger. He’s even best friends with his dog brother. But at not even a year old, Maximus experienced a medical emergency that had his family rushing him to the veterinarian for treatment. The diagnosis: A portosystemic liver shunt.
Alley Cat Allies provides support to veterinary professionals across the nation, which made the unique surgery Maximus needed to survive possible. Now, he’s happy, healthy, and living his life to the fullest—among many other cats and kittens who received access to care through our work together.
20. Our Cat Help Desk Answered the Call to Save Cats’ Lives
Alley Cat Allies is dedicated to ensuring caregivers have the resources and support to provide their cats with the best care possible. That is why the Alley Cat Allies Cat Help Desk is a lifeline, offering expert guidance and resources (including our low-cost veterinary care directory and our animal food bank directory) to help people across the nation and around the world protect cats in their communities.
This year, the work of our Cat Help Desk touched all 50 states and beyond!
21. We Rallied Against Ripping Cats from Their Homes in Alabama
Tumblr media
After discovering that owned and community cats faced deadly policies in Birmingham, Alley Cat Allies called on the city and its mayor to cease persecuting cats and their caregivers immediately.
In a shocking situation caught on video, tabby cat Nemo was lured from her own front porch by animal control officers and impounded.
We sent a letter asking the city to stop its aggressive action and rallied advocates to join us. We continue to stand in defense of Birmingham’s cats.
22. We Saved Cats From Suffering in a Shelter
youtube
If you met Opal and siblings Aster and Orchid today, you’d never guess they were once languishing in inhumane conditions in a municipal shelter. The kittens were dehydrated and suffering from upper respiratory infections, while Opal was anemic and contending with a coccidia infection.
Alley Cat Allies took a stand to save them, and all have beautifully blossomed under our care. With the right veterinary care (plus a lot of TLC!), Opal, Aster, and Orchid healed fully and took the next steps in their journeys toward a much happier tomorrow!
23. We Defended South Carolina County’s TNR Program
This year, the council of Richland County, South Carolina, considered passing a dangerous amendment to remove the county’s Community Cat Diversion Program—a successful TNR initiative that has saved thousands of cats’ lives. Alley Cat Allies rallied advocates to speak out, and the amendment did not move forward.
This is just one of many communities in which Alley Cat Allies rallied advocates for lifesaving change in 2024.
24. We Continue to Stand Up for Cat Victims of Cruelty
Tumblr media
We are seeking justice, including through rewards, in multiple cruelty cases across the country. Apollo, an Ohio community cat, was discovered with a horrific wound to his foot that meant his leg had to be amputated. Alley Cat Allies covered the costs of his surgery and care, and sent out a call for any information.
We also offered rewards for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the killing of several cats in the town of Lake Clarke Shores, Florida, and in relation to a series of disturbing Facebook videos in Washington, Missouri.
Help Us Start 2025 Strong for Cats
Right now, your gift will be 4X-MATCHED to have 4x the impact for cats and kittens in the new year. We have big plans to make big changes for cats, and we need you with us more than ever! Please consider giving today.

Alley Cat Allies Files Lawsuit To Stop the Illegal Killing of Cats in Summit County, Ohio
Tumblr media
SUMMIT COUNTY, OHIO—Alley Cat Allies, the leader of the global movement to protect cats and kittens, filed a lawsuit today in the Court of Common Pleas against Summit County, Ohio, and its county-operated animal shelter to stop the needless, cruel, and illegal killing of cats.
Alley Cat Allies is asking the Court to order Summit County to immediately cease its inhumane killing of cats and dogs in contravention of the law, among other relief.
“The Summit County Animal Control Department is a law enforcement entity meant to uphold the laws. Instead, it is improperly and inhumanely ‘euthanizing’ animals and killing cats for simply being deemed ‘feral’,” said DanaMarie Pannella, attorney, Alley Cat Allies. “Stopping the senseless and inhumane killing of cats is our top priority. The next step for Summit County is to create a humane animal control agency that adheres to laws and best practices, including Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR), and guarantees real protection for animals.”
The filing comes after Alley Cat Allies, via public records requests, uncovered disturbing evidence of cats and dogs at the Summit County shelter being killed inhumanely by underdosing or otherwise improperly administering euthanasia drugs. In some instances, these killings violated even the shelter’s own outdated euthanasia policy.
Summit County also kills cats its staff deems to be too “feral” while also accepting surrendered cats with disregard for whether a cat is a community cat, AKA an unowned cat who lives outdoors and is not socialized to live indoors with people. Some of these cats have been needlessly killed the same day they arrived at the shelter.
Alley Cat Allies has long been concerned about the plight of cats in the Summit County shelter which, despite being one of the most highly funded county-operated shelters in Ohio, has traditionally failed to implement basic industry standard shelter management programs to ensure successful outcomes for the cats and dogs in its care.
Along with taking legal action to stop the inhumane killing, Alley Cat Allies is urging Summit County to support and implement Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR). Through TNR, community cats are humanely trapped; brought to a veterinary clinic to be spayed or neutered, eartipped (the universal sign that a cat has been spayed or neutered through a TNR program), and vaccinated; and then are returned to their original outdoor homes. TNR is the only humane and effective approach to community cats.

THANK YOU for Standing With Us to Protect Cats
Tumblr media
In this season of love, giving, and community, we at Alley Cat Allies are endlessly grateful for our supporters, who help us protect cats and kittens like the community members they are!
When we say Cats Are CommunityTM, it is a powerful statement of these global truths: cats have lived alongside us for thousands of years, have a rightful place in our communities, and are beings with inherent value who deserve to live free of cruelty and deadly, misguided policies.
What makes a community one that truly protects cats like community? Here are the building blocks—city and county funding for critical resources like Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR), low-cost spay and neuter, and cat food banks; strong laws to fight cruelty and defend cats whether they live outdoors or indoors; and active community members advocating for cats.
Alley Cat Allies works on the ground, in court, and through our comprehensive online resources to bring these key policies and programs worldwide. Your generosity and compassion help us do it all! And when we achieve a brighter tomorrow for cats together, it will be something for which we can all truly be thankful.
Right now, we celebrate and give thanks for the victories of today. Because you stand with Alley Cat Allies…
Tumblr media
Community cats in Puerto Rico are not being removed and killed right now. The United States National Park Service (NPS), which announced intention to eradicate cats from the San Juan National Historic Site late last year, planned to start ripping cats from their outdoor homes as early as October 1, 2024.
Alley Cat Allies’ legal efforts and refusal to back down forced the NPS to agree to halt all movement on its cruel plan until a federal court decision in 2025. Cats like Bella, Mufasina, and Llorin are still eating, sleeping, and playing amid the surf-swept rocks of their outdoor home because of our action (including our historic federal lawsuit)—and our supporters like you who made it possible.
Together, we are sending a clear message: Harmful action against cats will not stand unchallenged, no matter who carries it out.
Tumblr media
Cats in Ohio are now officially protected under companion animal cruelty law. In a unanimous decision, the Ohio Supreme Court ruled this month that Ohio’s companion animal cruelty law (R.C. 959.131) protects ALL cats and dogs as “companion animals.” Alley Cat Allies filed an amicus brief in this case, which helped inform the Court’s decision.
This is a huge step forward! In the simplest terms, we helped the Ohio Supreme Court decide that the law protects both owned and unowned cats equally, and that animal cruelty against community cats is not lesser than cruelty against an owned cat. This will affect the outcome of cruelty cases across Ohio and ensure justice is truly served.
Our victory in Ohio is just one of many lifesaving legal wins for cats and their caregivers this year!
Tumblr media
Advocates and caregivers can access care and resources for cats. Just yesterday, we launched our new Alley Cat Allies Community Resource Tool to help advocates like you protect the cats who are your community.
With a few clicks, you can find resources for cats in your area including low-cost spay and neuter clinics, cat food banks, and more.
This is how advocates find each other, communities connect, and cats’ lives are saved.
Tumblr media
Cats across the United States and beyond are enjoying a meal this Thanksgiving. Just one Alley Cat Allies supported community cat food bank in Atlantic County, New Jersey, feeds around 600 cats per day! And that’s just one part of an initiative through which thousands more cats and kittens receive low-cost spay and neuter, TNR, and other needed veterinary care each quarter.
Tumblr media
Cats continue to receive care in hurricane-impacted communities. Alley Cat Allies’ rapid response in the wake of Hurricanes Helene and Milton kept lifesaving resources for cats running with emergency generators, restocked supplies lost to flooding (including critical medications for cats), supported emergency treatments and surgeries for affected cats and kittens, and provided cat food resources for caregivers who may not have otherwise been able to afford them post-disaster. Cats like Padme, Halo, and Toffee were provided with lifesaving care and returned to their outdoor homes safe and sound.
And all of that is just within the last season!
What You Can Do to Help Cats on Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving is about celebrating family and community, and there’s no better time to remember that Cats Are Community and family members to many of us across the globe. More than that, we have the power to protect cats as we should all members of our communities.
So take some time to talk to your community about cats. Tell your family at the Thanksgiving table about TNR. Celebrate the cats in your life, and learn how to best care for them. Talk to your local leaders about humane programs that save cats’ lives rather than put them at risk. Share the Truth about Cats and set the record straight when disinformation threatens cats’ lives.
Your voice and your generosity and compassion make a lifesaving difference, and even the smallest act can help change a community, a country, and the world. If there’s anything we can all be thankful for, it’s that. Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at Alley Cat Allies!
Your generosity today will save cats and kittens throughout this holiday season and beyond. Please consider making an early Giving Tuesday gift.

Alley Cat Allies Wins Major Victory in Fight to Save Cats at Puerto Rico Historic Site
Tumblr media
Alley Cat Allies has achieved a major victory to protect community cats living on the San Juan National Historic Site in Puerto Rico. Alley Cat Allies legal efforts and refusal to back down have forced the United States National Park Service (NPS) to agree to halt movement on its cruel plan to remove and kill cats on the historic site starting October 1.
“This victory is a crucial step, and Alley Cat Allies stopped the NPS’ reckless and cruel intention to begin removing and killing these cats on October 1. However, the cats’ lives remain at risk unless the plan is struck down permanently,” said Yonaton Aronoff, a lawyer representing Alley Cat Allies. “Alley Cat Allies will not back down until that happens, for the sake of the cats and the many Puerto Rico residents and advocates worldwide who have spoken out to defend them.”
Alley Cat Allies’ historic lawsuit in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia claims the NPS’ plan to remove the cats violates the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). In August, Alley Cat Allies filed for an injunction against the NPS to stop its imminent action starting October 1. Ultimately, the NPS agreed to Alley Cat Allies’ terms, which include ceasing steps toward the removal of the cats until the court decides the legality of the NPS’ plan.
Following NPS’ agreement to stand down, the legal process is moving into an expedited briefing schedule with a court decision expected early in 2025. Alley Cat Allies is prepared to fight relentlessly until the NPS abandons its inhumane and illegal plan entirely.
For generations, community cats have lived in peace along the rocky shores of San Juan’s scenic Paseo Del Morro, which is part of the San Juan National Historic Site. They are true community members who are adored by locals and tourists alike and are woven into the fabric of Puerto Rican culture.
Alley Cat Allies contends that removing and killing these cats disregards the inherent value of the cats’ lives; the wishes of the San Juan community; and the proven humane, effective approach to community cat populations: Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR).
For now, the community cats of the Paseo del Morro are safe, but their future hangs in the balance. The National Park Service has shown its willingness to pursue a brutal and inhumane plan, and without continued pressure, these cats remain in grave danger.
Alley Cat Allies is calling on advocates around the world to continue to speak out in support of Puerto Rico’s cats and against the NPS’ plan to eradicate them. More information and action to take can be found on its website, www.alleycat.org.

Save Puerto Rico's Cats: Sign the Petition and See More Updates
Sign the Petition in Defense of Puerto Rico’s Community Cats
youtube
ON OCTOBER 1, The United States National Park Service (NPS) will begin its cruel plan to round up community cats living peacefully in Puerto Rico. Cats WILL be killed if the NPS is not stopped.
SIGN THE PETITION: Tell the NPS to immediately halt its deadly plan against the Paseo del Morro cats. Then, share the petition far and wide.
Alley Cat Allies recently won a critical legal victory against the NPS and its horrific scheme to eradicate community cats living on the Paseo del Morro, a famous trail, and all of San Juan National Historic Site. We filed a historic lawsuit in March and we continue our fight today and for as long as it takes. We will not back down with these cats’ lives on the line.
However, the NPS is pushing forward even when the court hasn’t determined its plan is lawful. Disturbingly, the NPS is already soliciting applications from organizations to remove the cats.
Alley Cat Allies is demanding the NPS stop immediately and is taking all action available. WATCH THE VIDEO, sign the petition, and find more ways you can join our fight at alleycat.org/PuertoRico.

Alley Cat Allies immediately got to work to help Tippy, starting with a diagnosis and veterinary treatment. We discovered he has chronic kidney disease, and we’ve since taken over his care.
We’re doing all we can to ensure Tippy has the longest and happiest life possible. He’s doing well and loves his new catio space and toys!

Alley Cat Allies Achieves a Victory in Court, Exposing National Park Service's Underhanded Tactics
Tumblr media
SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO: Alley Cat Allies, the leader of the global movement to protect cats and kittens, has achieved a critical legal victory against the National Park Service (NPS) and its plan to eradicate cats from Puerto Rico’s San Juan National Historic Site. The United States District Court for the District of Columbia has denied the NPS’ attempt to transfer the Alley Cat Allies lawsuit to a court in Puerto Rico.
After this failed maneuver, the NPS is now hastening the implementation of its brutal plan before the court can determine its legality. It plans to round up cats on the historic site starting October 1, 2024.
“The NPS tried to delay by transferring the case and, now that the court has seen through its tactic, is acting in bad faith by moving forward in a rush,” said Yonaton Aronoff, a lawyer representing Alley Cat Allies. “Alley Cat Allies insists that the NPS cease any further steps in its deadly plan against Puerto Rico’s cats or we will seek appropriate relief.”
Alley Cat Allies argues that the NPS’s eradication plan violates the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and is arbitrary and capricious under the Administrative Procedure Act (APA).
The plan, which includes trapping, removing, and “euthanizing” cats, is cruel and ineffective. Removing the cats creates a vacuum, which cats living in San Juan will quickly move into the historic site to fill. The NPS is only setting itself up for an endless cycle of killing rather than supporting humane, effective approaches like Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR).
The court’s decision is an important step forward, and Alley Cat Allies remains committed to holding the NPS accountable and protecting Puerto Rico’s community cats.
The people of Puerto Rico have voiced their opposition to the NPS plan. They, and Alley Cat Allies, recognize the threatened cats as community members who are woven into Puerto Rican culture and history. We call on the NPS to immediately halt its cruel plan and engage in a transparent, accountable process that respects the law, the lives of the cats, and the community’s wishes. Alley Cat Allies will not stop fighting until it does.
