No but there should be. My dream is to recreate the Black Cat segment in Tales of Terror. We already have a Peter Lorre fish and a girl Peter Lorre fish. All we need is a Vincent Price fish to complete the segment. I'll swap the black cat for the occasional underwater skunk.
It could also be a snail (since snails are the equivalent of cats in bikini bottom) but Slappy already has a skunk so I might as well use it.

7 for the ask game. Whichever show/fandom you wish.
sorry for taking so long to get to the asks!
7. what character did you begin to hate not because of canon but because how how the fandom acts about them?
never really had genuine hate for any recent characters i could think of, but i really didn't care about/for mami for a really long time. mostly because when i was fourteen (when i first watched) most "fans" of her online were either pedophiles, or only made decapitation jokes. which aren't evil (wrt the jokes), but nobody at the time was really discussing her character. so i just was ambivalent about her. up until the last few years, i didn't hate her, but had no real interest in her whatsoever. she's still not a favorite, but i do appreciate wraith arc, the different story, and rebellion for giving her more depth of character, and more fans who actually care about her.

Easy (?) one: favorite novel or novels?
Favorite novel growing up:
Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephan Chobsky: I had never read a book before that depicted what it felt like to be truly and honestly “different” and have it be written in such a sympathetic way. It made me feel like everything was going to be alright and I’ve reread it more than any other book.
Favorite series:
The Broken Earth Trilogy by NK Jemisin: this series is scary good and I love everything about the world building and fast-paced plot. I never thought I could be so enthralled by a series before and I just ate the whole thing up and it’s remained my favorite set of books ever since.
Favorite nonfiction book:
The Butchering Art: Joseph Lister's Quest to Transform the Grisly World of Victorian Medicine by Lindsey Fitzharris: so good! This book is about the surgeon that changed surgery forever and his fight to do so. It is fascinating and so well-written. I love micro-history that focuses on one slice of time and this delivers on all fronts.

Fic ask: how much of yourself do you put into your characters/stories? Do you find this complicates sticking close to the show?
[related to this post!]
I rarely consciously set out to put myself into characters or stories. And yet. Sometimes, I put a lot of myself into characters and stories, but it’s rarely a consciously intentional thing. I’ve found that sometimes (though certainly not always!) I use fic to cope with and especially process stressful irl situations. None of these fics are ever directly about the thing I’m processing. And in a vast majority of cases, I don’t even realize that I was using fic to process these things until I go back and re-read them long after the fact. A few examples:
I wrote a very dark A:TLA AU fic shortly after I returned from a Jewish heritage trip to Poland, much of which was spent visiting sites related to and thinking about the Holocaust. I was in a bit of a messed up place for a little bit after the trip. The fic was not about genocide. Nor was it about the Holocaust. But it was about a character being imprisoned, dealing with the deaths of a lot of the people and places he loved, and thinking about what it means to have dignity in a situation like that one. I didn’t realize it at the time, but when I go back and read it now, it’s very clear to me that I was using that fic to work out some feelings and thoughts I had about the trip.
I wrote a fic about Yellow Diamond dealing with her grief over Pink Diamond about a month after the shooting at a synagogue in my home community. A major theme in the fic is Yellow Diamond feeling the need to cling to false rationality in the face of her grief and pain...and how that ultimately fails her. This was something I was absolutely doing quite a lot after the shooting, and it was failing me too...and again I didn’t recognize it at all at the time, but in retrospect it seems kinda obvious that I was using the fic in part to deal with some of my own grief and coping mechanisms.
I write a lot about Pearl, and Pearl’s tendency early on in canon to put others’ needs before her own. This is something I’m actively trying to work on for myself, and I have no doubt that part of my fascination with this theme in fics is because it’s something I’m trying to process myself. Again, this was never a conscious decision. Nor is it something I’m consciously thinking about when I’m thinking about Pearl. But that’s still there, I think.
There’s probably more examples too, that I just haven’t thought of/recognized.
As for whether this complicates sticking close to the show--I don’t think it has for me. I think I may be drawn to/fascinated by certain characters and certain stories in canon in the first place because I feel those resonances, even if I’m not always conscious of it, and so when I write that fic, I don’t have to deviate from the source material in order to explore those themes inside myself. This is probably a longer and more intense answer than you were looking for, but I hope you found it interesting! I’d be interested to hear some of your experiences too!

Your ask: 21
21. what is a total book turn-off for you?
Something that immediately turns me off of a book is when relationships aren’t developed well, whether friendly or romantic or any other kind. I need to be invested in the characters (that’s what I value most in the books I read) and when I’m just supposed to take those characters’ emotions about the other characters for granted without the build-up, I get frustrated.
…Also when patriarchal values are represented in books without critiquing or challenging them in some way.

allenbyseyes reblogged your photo: Picnic at Hanging Rock by Joan Lindsay ★★★★★ ...
Great book and I love the movie, too. “Waiting a million years…just for us!”
I need to watch just the movie. I watched a trailer for both the movie and the recent series, and the series seems like it will be off. However, had I not seen the trailer for the series, I would have never picked up the book, so thankful for that! I will definitely add it to my list. And yes, that line is absolutely perfect.
