The Boy Who Talked to Badgers (Dir: Gary Nelson, 1975).

A family drama first aired in two parts on NBC’s The Wonderful World of Disney television series. Difficult to obtain for many years it is now available to watch on the Disney+ streaming service.
Based on Allan W. Eckert’s 1971 novel Incident at Hawk's Hill, The Boy Who Talked to Badgers tells the story of young farm boy Benjy MacDonald (Christian Juttner). Preferring the company of animals to humans Ben largely disconnects with others, notably his stern father Will (Carl Betz). When out playing in a nearby creek, Ben falls in and is carried downstream. Believing him drowned, his guilt-ridden father organises an extensive search of the surrounding area. Ben, meanwhile is aided by a badger who befriends him and keeps him supplied in raw fish while the boy's injured ankle heals.

Get 'Into the Wilderness' on OFFER for a Limited Time Only!
Here: https://www.bookzio.com/into-the-wilderness/
Weaving a tapestry of fact and fiction, Sara Donati’s epic novel sweeps us into another time and place . . . and into a breathtaking story of love and survival in a land of savage beauty. It is December of 1792. Elizabeth Middleton leaves her comfortable English estate to join her family in a remote New York mountain village. It is a place unlike any she has ever experienced. And she meets a man unlike any she has ever encountered—a white man dressed like a Native American: Nathaniel Bonner, known to the Mohawk people as Between-Two-Lives. Determined to provide schooling for all the children of the village, Elizabeth soon finds herself locked in conflict with the local slave owners as well as with her own family. Interweaving the fate of the Mohawk Nation with the destiny of two lovers, Sara Donati’s compelling novel creates a complex, profound, passionate portait of an emerging America. Praise for Into the Wilderness“My favorite kind of book is the sort you live in, rather than read. Into the Wilderness is one of those rare stories that let you breathe the air of another time, and leave your footprints on the snow of a wild, strange place. I can think of no better adventure than to explore the wilderness in the company of such engaging and independent lovers as Elizabeth and her Nathaniel.”—Diana Gabaldon“Each time you open a book you hope to discover a story that will make your spirit of adventure and romance sing. This book delivers on that promise.”—Amanda Quick“A beautiful tale of both romance and survival…Here is the beauty as well as the savagery of the wilderness and, at the core of it all, the compelling story of the love of a man and a woman, both for the untamed land and for one another.”—Allan W. Eckert“Lushly written . . . Exemplary historical fiction.”—Kirkus Reviews“Epic in scope, emotionally intense.”—BookPage

The Frontiersmen: A Narrative by Allan W. Eckert. A five-star history book. A Spartan breed of men. They were often rough and illiterate, sometimes brutal and vicious, often seeking an escape in the wilderness of mid-America from crimes committed back east. In the country now known as West Virginia, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois, often victims of Indians who claimed the vast virgin territory and strove to turn back the growing tide of whites. #Audible (at Port Of Kingston)

Friday Thoughts 12.1.17
Happy Friday everyone,
And off we go into the final month of this very odd year in many more ways than a couple.  The hits and news just keep coming from every direction leaving one to wonder, who what and when is next?  Hopefully this will give you a few minutes of respite from reality.
*****
Happy Birthday to our youngest child Claire who clicked 23 today.  Thanks Claire for making us old, and proud too, duh!
*****
Nothing quite says Merry Christmas like a welcoming wreath on your home, tastefully adorned with red and green spent shotgun shells.  Or maybe just a harbinger for ne’re-do-ell intruders?
Tumblr media
*****
What in the name of mao Tse Tung causes a strand of last years perfectly working Christmas lights to not work after 11 months in a Rubbermaid vessel?  No make sense.....Underwriters Laboratories!
*****
Last night out to dinner with the CEO of our house and overheard at the next table, and actually they were in an alcohol induced loud talking contest more like.  One of the participants at the table of four was explaining her vegan lifestyle, after ordering a ham, turkey and cheese salad with no ham or turkey with extra cheese and salad dressing.  To each their own, I say.  Then came the show stopping comment from opposite spouse.  He said, “would you like them to put chromosome sprinkles on that?”  I guess you had to be there, but I had to bite my lip.

What do ya do when the Bucks and Cats are playing their rivalry games?  You just fix the glitch.

Boy, the term dumpster fire doesn’t fully explain what our Orange & White rivals under Kentucky are having trying to replace their ousted football coach.  Today they whacked the Athletic Director and I’m a little worried now about “Smokey” the Bluetick Coonhound mascot.  Run Smokey run!  Hey Tom Crean is looking for work.  Maybe he can coach a little pigskin?
*****
This week I finished “A Sorrow In Our Heart: The Life of Tecumsah,” by Allan W. Eckert.  Great true story and good book about one remarkable and well traveled Shawnee warrior.  I still can’t even begin to pronounce what they called the Ohio river,  “The Spaylethewa.”  What I was reminded of was, that back in the seventeen & early eighteen hundreds there was a bunch of scalping going on where we live.  Book is also a great refresher of former college mascot names!  Just saying.
*****
Good Luck to The Red & White Tigers.  Take State.....

Success!  I’ve ben able to recreate The City of Ft. Mitchell lighted Cucumber effect to our very own yard this year.  If you missed the lighting ceremony, come by any evening at duck, it’ll take your breath away.  You should have seen the broom taped to a pole pruner that kicked my ass for 30 minutes trying to get these lights up.  That and the bees that I pissed off would have made great cinema. #tribute
*****
If I ever had the spotlight on me that Tiger does now, I wouldn’t be able to hit sand on a beach.
*****
Have a wonderful weekend and December y’all and if you can’t be with the one you love, love the one you’re with.

The Frontiersmen: A Narrative
The Frontiersmen: A Narrative by Allan W. Eckert The frontiersmen were a remarkable breed of men. They were often rough and illiterate, sometimes brutal and vicious, often seeking an escape in the wilderness of mid-America from crimes committed back east. In the beautiful but deadly country which would one day come to be known as West Virginia, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois, more often than not they left their bones to bleach beside forest paths or on the banks of the Ohio River, victims of Indians who claimed the vast virgin territory and strove to turn back the growing tide of whites. These frontiersmen are the subjects of Allan Eckert's dramatic history.
Against the background of such names as George Rogers Clark, D...Read More on Amazon Reviews:
