We still really need money, I keep getting more sick.

It's so bad that I can barely even be transported by car because the changes in speed makes it feel like my head is collapsing in on itself.

But also walking leaves me so exhausted I can't comfortably stand up. I have been pretty much bedridden for weeks now, and my assisted living home isn't accomodating my needs at all.

They're supposed to be providing food, but since I have allergies. They don't actually make sure I can eat it. So we've had to order take-away, which is obviously kinda expensive.

I'm still trying to get medical staff to listen to me, I have gotten blood work done to see if any of my hormone levels can explain my illness, and from what I can see, it doesn't explain anything.

I also have a doctor's appointment this monday after having had to wait all month for it.

So please help us out, we still haven't been able to work on getting any further with marriage approval because of how sick I have been. We also need to have a diagnosis worked out for the approval anyway.

We genuinely have no way of making this all work out without help.

I could also still really use some help to just give us a bit more money to run on till next friday where I will get paid again.

However: the tunnel leading to his horde (the one with anachronistic dragons due to yours truly) is... not the only one. Most of the island is... empty. Trees trees trees and maybe some critters but everything else is accessible through clearly mapped portals. Aqua confirmed no pantsu let’s gooo!! Another great episode. This has really been Darkness’ season, I’m loving all the development and good moments she’s got so far. Always been one of my faves.

I thought my tv froze twice when Kazuma and Aqua were out to dinner 😭 the look on Aqua face when she found out the wine was cheap had me dying. Felt like the most random 5 minutes ever but I’ll take it

Unexpected Megumin and Darkness Yuri?? When you combine that with Darkness playing with megumin clothes in the mirror it gets even crazier lmao. Need a doujinshi of it.

We’ve really got to see a more serious side of darkness than previous seasons in this one. I’m really interested in seeing everything with her family play out. The look she gave Kazuma and getting down on her knees earnestly begging lets you know this is serious. Even Kazuma couldn’t turn her down. Personally I would’ve done it for just the kiss tho 😂

That hydra won’t be easy to take down though holy. Poor aqua napping in the water like an idiot completely unaware of the scale of what was lurking down there lmao. Wonder how they’re gonna take it out.

Megumin - A "Food Wars" Observation.

In Chapter 21 of the manga "SHOKUGEKI NO SOMA" or Episode 10 of the Anime "Food Wars!" (Also Shokugeki No Soma)

The characters are presented with a recette for a small Terine, made of several different vegetables, and the students must follow the recette precisely.

<aside>Recette is French for Recipe and may have some connection to the word "Receipt"</aside>

The series' little sister stand-in; Megumin--Ends up with an oxidized cauliflower, which she reasons would make the end product look and taste bad. So she boils the cauliflower in vinegar in order to clean it up, but this alters the overall taste and PH Balance of the Terrine; and the Instructor and former student--Shinomiya; fails her on the spot.

I had two thoughts about this episode; how it could be done differently. Was Instructor Shinomiya entirely correct, what could have Megumin done instead. And all sorts of thoughts.

What if she just refused? Just like; "Nah, I'm not leaving if you're not gonna give me better instructions." being Soma's Character basically.

Which BTW; Soma is the series equivalent of Neo from the Matrix. This "God" character who can't lose, and defends basically everybody from their own mistakes.

I don't know what the trope would be; Mary Sue? Manic Pixie Dream Boy? Anime Protagonist? (Probably that last one.) Effectively; he's the character that other other characters channel to overcome their hardships. The one criticism I would have about the show is the ease in which Soma overcomes every obstacle; as if there are no obstacles.

Would it have worked if Megumin properly neutralized the vinegar taste with a bit of baking powder, baking soda, salt, sugar, or just rinsing it out better?

But then I thought; those cauliflowers were the size of the entire terrine. As depicted; would you need the entire cauliflower for this dish? Or was there just tonnes of waste from other students?

And then I thought; Wouldn't a seasoned chef with his own restaurant and profit margins want to impose this kind of restriction in his test?

Then the solution would be to pull the other student's waste out of the trash. Or ask them for extra. Or grab a handful of the oxidized cauliflower, and take the salvageable parts.

I think that's why Chef Shinomiya is such a troublesome and hateable character to the series. He's just fine with the waste here when somebody else (The Academy) is footing the bill.

As if he really is *still* just a student.

As far as the series itself goes; I feel there is room to add this kind of thinking on costs and waste that just isn't present until the main characters reach their senior years; Where only the top students are unfairly challenged in such a way, that costs, waste, and procurement are actually part of their curriculum. (In a way that if they fail these extra instructions, they fail for real, unlike the middling students.)

Limelight on These Legendary Adventurers! Retrospective

AKA the post where I yell about two of my favorite characters in KonoSuba and how much I loved this event!

SPOILER ALERT: Contains spoilers for the Dust spin-off.

So, uh…yeah. Part of the reason I wasn’t on Tumblr for much of the first part of the year is because I was busy playing KonoSuba Fantastic Days like mad, because the characters featured in this month’s Legendary Fest were Dust and Rin!

I started out playing this game with very little knowledge of it—my brother watched the anime, but I didn’t aside from some clips—and thought it was pretty cool. Less grindy than Revue Starlight and Princess Connect, generous in terms of rewards and power creep isn’t nearly as bad as those two games. As such, I left it as a strictly F2P game—no money is poured into it whatsoever. When I did my first pulls, I kinda wanted Darkness because I liked her the best out of Kazuma’s party, as well as maybe Kazuma. The two initial URs I ended up getting, though? Initial Dust and Rin, which carried me through the first part of the game until I got better cards.

(And that ended up being a blessing in disguise since I read later on that both Kazuma and Darkness’ initial cards SUCKED).

And over time, as I started playing more, I really ended up liking both of their characters. Rin is the most levelheaded and chill adventurer thus far, and is in general a no-nonsense, but sweet girl. Dust, meanwhile, is a street punk who’s more perverted than Kazuma, gambles his money away and literally lives in jail, often depending on Rin to bail him out, but is a fairly competent adventurer when he puts his mind to it and, despite his chaotic gremlin energy, does have a good side (mostly seen in the light novels). These two are often seen bantering and bickering majority of the time they’re in the same room, but they make a good team. And while I like Kazuma’s party as well as other characters in the series (Amy, Melissa, Darkness, Megumin, Chris, Yunyun, Iris, and Mitsurugi to name a few), these two are probably my top tier characters. So I ended up trying to collect most of their cards, though I’ve mostly succeeded on collecting Dust. The dude loves me so much that he’s spooked several of my pulls, lol.

Later digging into the series not only led to me learning that there was a spinoff focused on Dust, but within that spin off, it turns out that there are some unresolved tensions between them?? The event references some of that spinoff, too?? And both units are pretty busted in game?? You know I had to go all in on this event. I usually don’t save my gems, but I spent months saving up for Dust and Rin (even though I lost 15K gems on Forbidden Adventurer Aqua) because I really wanted both of them. Sadly, I was unable to pull Rin, while I got INSANELY lucky with Dust, pulling him three times, with the last one being when he was already limit broken. 😡 Ah, well. Maybe when they release the gacha for the featured Wind element, I’ll be able to finally add Rin. In the meantime I will be happy with my boy Dust.

As for the event story, I quite enjoyed it (read: fangirled over it) because it gives some insight to their dynamic, and has a wholesome ending, too.

Rin and Dust are recruited by Lolisa to raid a dungeon that she wants to give to Lord Vanir, and the succubus promises that she’ll let them have whatever’s inside as a reward. What’s inside turns out to be some old clothes that for some reason fit them perfectly, lol, but they take them regardless, namely due to the fact that the dungeon collapses after they defeat the monsters inside. Not long after that, they return to town, where to Rin’s surprise, Dust is hailed as hero. This is mostly due to the effects of his costume. And while he did warn Rin and Lolisa to escape, he does take advantage of his newfound fame and exaggerate some of the story. Which pisses Rin off, but there seems to be a deeper reason as to why she’s not keen on Dust’s status as an adventurer improving—a reason that’s quickly picked up on by Lolisa. This comes to a head when they fight a wyvern outside of the town, and they start arguing. When a dragon appears, they attempt to escape, only for Rin and Lolisa to get hit by the dragon’s tail. Dust decides to go all out on fighting the dragon by himself…

…at least, that’s what Rin thought before she blacked out. Turns out that he retreated while carrying the two of them, which results in him failing the quest and losing his improving reputation. This doesn’t bother Rin, though—in fact, she’s rather pleased and invites him for drinks. And thus, the event ends.

Now, within the series proper, these two are constantly bickering, but they do care for each other. While he’s not above making crass remarks about her, Dust will go out of his way to help her and make her happy. As for Rin, the game kinda supports that Rin does have feelings for Dust, from debating about whether to give him chocolate, to this particular event where she outright says that she can support him with her new powers…and immediately takes it back, LOL XD. They definitely have that “old married couple” dynamic, which even Iris picked up on, haha.

The light novels featuring him (which also features Rin and the rest of his party), however, kinda gives insight into how Dust feels about Rin—he mentions that she strongly resembles the princess that Dust protected at one point, although he later separated her from the princess and started to see her as her own person, noting that he was captivated by her, and that he can be himself around her rather than the strict, uptight knight he was before. They have a lot of cute moments in that spinoff, although things don’t go anywhere between them in the end sadly.

Between Dust’s antics and Rin having to keep him in line, though, things are pretty ambiguous between them. Plus, I think Dust is pretty obtuse to the idea that someone would be in love with him—Lolisa straight up had to tell him that Rin thinks the world of him, and he looked kinda freaked out by it. We didn’t get to know what his real thoughts were on it, or get a proper conversation between them, but at least he’s aware now and that counts as something!

If there’s a follow-up where Dust acknowledges this I will go absolutely insane. MAKE IT HAPPEN SESISOFT

I know a few folks won’t really support this ship. And I get it. But personally, I think it can go either way! I just love that for all the crap they talk about each other, they have each other’s backs.

The Graveyard of Dropped Shows

So the thought occurs to me that I’ve dropped quite a few anime this season. Turns out, when you don’t pressure yourself to keep up with every show you start out of an obsessive need for cataloguing, it’s a lot easier to say goodbye to shows you don’t like. Who’d have thought? And at this point, I’m far enough into the shows I’m still watching that I’m mostly confident sticking with them to the end. Unless things really take a turn for the worse, but hey, we’ll burn that bridge when we cross to it. For now, I thought I’d just give a quick rundown of all the spring 2023 anime I started watching but gave up on for whatever reason. Cool? Cool. Welcome to the first installment of my graveyard of dropped shows!

Hell’s Paradise: Dropped at 4 episodes

This is probably the most unfair drop on my list. Hell’s Paradise is fine, I guess; as much as I hate the overly bloomed-out lighting Mappa decided to go with, the action’s pretty fun and I’m a sucker for a good Garden of Nightmares setting. It’s a perfectly adequate Shonen Thing that’ll scratch a lot of people’s itches. But man, the older I get, the less patience I have for what I’ve come to call Shonen Gender Bullshit, or SGB for short. And sweet buttery crumpets, this show is full of it. It takes all of one episode for Sagiri to transform from a competent executioner deuteragonist to an inexperienced damsel who exists mainly to be outclassed and taught lessons by the men around her while she stares on in reactive awe. The only other female characters besides her are either evil seductresses who flaunt their bodies for the audience at the first possible opportunity or saintly, far-off idealized wives who exist as goals for Gabimaru to strive for. And in a post-Jujutsu Kaisen world, there is no more excuse for your ridiculous shonen beat-em-up to not treat its ladies with respect.

Konosuba Megumin: Dropped at 2 episodes

Was there a time when I actually liked Konosuba? I’m sure there was, but every new installment in this series just makes it harder and harder to remember why any of us thought this show was anything more than passably amusing at best. And this is a spinoff centered on its best character! If anyone from this cast of losers and misfits had the strength to carry a side story of their own, it was the crimson witch Megumin herself. But absent the incredibly expressive, body-contorting animation that made Konosuba’s comedy work as well as it did, all you’re left with is a boring supporting cast, stupid fanservice, and jokes about guys being creepy perverts who want to molest women. Riveting.

Magical Destroyers: Dropped at 3 episodes

It’s almost impressive how lame Magical Destroyers manages to be. It’s got some of the most unhinged, creative animation this side of mid-2000s Gainax, all the angular momentum and unhinged editing of a lost Hiroyuki Imaishi show. You can tell the series creator started as a graphic designer, because he sure designed the fuck out of these graphics. Unfortunately, you can also tell he’s a graphic designer from the script. Because all that insanely creative animation is paired with some of the dullest, stuffiest, most conservative writing imaginable. If you were hoping for some clever subversion of the “otaku are the most oppressed minority” setup, prepare to be disappointed. This is just brainless wish fulfillment for insecure manchildren who want to feel like badass revolutionaries surrounded by super-sexy, super-powerful warrior women who nevertheless happily submit to some hapless dudebro’s orders. Every single artist involved in this slog deserved to put their talents to better use.

The Marginal Service: Dropped at 1 episode

How do you take a premise like “sexy firefighter super sentai heroes fighting aliens” and make it boring? Well, by slathering it in five layers of faux tryhard grit and grime, making every character the dullest possible archetype version of themself, and drowing the whole affair in a level of xenophobia so uncomfortable I barely made it through a single episode. Cygames just knocked it out of the park with Akiba Maid War, how did they go from that masterpiece to this?

Mashle: Dropped at 2 episodes

This show feels like someone watched One Punch Man and Mob Psycho 100 and thought “Wow, I should make a show like that!” without fully understanding what makes them so great. Everything is such a surface-level approximation of ONE’s writing talents, from the tired “Wow, this guy is so overpowered!” gags to the reheated “Despite my powers, I just want to live a normal life” motivation. Not to mention its own struggles with the dreaded Shonen Gender Bullshit. But what really killed Mashle for me is very simple: it’s primarily comedy, and it doesn’t make me laugh. Or at least, it doesn’t make me laugh consistently enough to justify sitting through the lackluster animation and cardboard characters. I’ll just watch Mob Psycho again, thank you very much.

My Clueless First Friend: Dropped at 1 episode

Okay, I lied: this is the most unfair drop on my list. As a simple story about a clueless elementary school boy unknowingly helping his classmate deal with bullies, there’s really nothing wrong here. But we have no absence of fantastic rom-coms to keep up busy these days. Just this season alone, My Love Story with Yamada-kun, The Dangers in my Heart, and especially Skip and Loafer have more than enough charm and wholesomeness to fill those needs. And unless you’re really fond of shrill vocal performances (seriously, whoever’s voicing the male lead makes him so irritating to listen to), there’s nothing here you can’t get much better in countless other places. Just Fine, sadly, no longer cuts it in the competitive world of anime rom-coms.

- Aqua and Miki were in the bridge with Kazuma, watching the status of the ship quietly.

- Kazuma put a scanner to it and read the name.

“Acid Mushroom”

(Kazuma) “…Nope.”

- Kazuma continued to swim off as Aqua stared at it.

(Aqua) “Hm…We could use it for something. Right?”

(Darkness) “I will go find the most hostile fish in this area and…hehehe, fight it!”

- With an insane look in her eye, she swam away.

(Kazuma) “Megumin? Find anything in there?”

- Megumin was inside the cave and found a small red-plant like creature.

(Megumin) “I think so?”

- The plant revealed an eye, which made Megumin jump.

(Megumin) “K-Kazuma?!”

- A creature with a giant eye made an unholy noise as it bolted towards Megumin.

- A massive explosion could be heard from across the entire shallows as it jolted Aqua and Kazuma into attention.

- Megumin swam out of the cave with her scuba gear clearly dented as a crazy smile took over her.

(Megumin) “THESE CREATURES! THEY KNOW THE ART OF EXPLOSIONS!”

(Kazuma) “You gotta be- KAMIKAZE FISH?! THAT’S GREAT!”

(Aqua) “Hm…”

- Aqua purified the mushroom and looked at it curiously.

(Kazuma) “DO NOT EAT THAT MUSHROOM! Where’s Darkness?!”

(Darkness) “How disappointing.

- Kazuma and the group saw Darkness getting bitten by some shark-like creature.

(Darkness) “These predators will not provide the stimulation I crave.”

- She punched it so hard it flew into the nearby coral tubes, splitting it apart as if it were paper.

(Kazuma) “OH FOR FUCKS SAKE, DON’T GO PICKING FIGHTS WITH THE PREDATORS-”

(Aqua) “K-Kazuma?!”

- The fish began to swarm Aqua, which eventually led to those same shark creatures headed her direction.

(Kazuma) “RETREAT! RETREAT!”

(Aqua) “Psh, it’s just a buncha fish! THEY’RE NO MATCH FOR THIS GODDESS-”

- The predators began to bite Aqua.

(Aqua) “OWOWOWOWOW-”

- Kazuma began swearing loudly and incoherently as he brought up his knife and tried to save Aqua as Megumin and Darkness took care of the exploding fish being drawn to Aqua.

30 minutes later…

(Sharon) “Welcome back, Master Satou.”

(Kazuma) “Ugh…”

- Kazuma flopped onto the lifeboat’s floor, dragging up Megumin, Aqua and Darkness.

- Sharon helped them up and calmly got a towel while Kazuma continued to groan.

(Sharon) “May I ask what you have found?”

- Kazuma reached into his pocket and put them near Sharon’s feet.

- A fish, several teeth from the shark-like fish, some acid mushrooms, and 1 piece of titanium.

(Sharon) “Would you like some tea?”

- Altina drove the Seamoth forward while the rest of Class VII tagged along on their seagliders.

- Juna kept looking around left and right until Kurt spoke.

(Ash) “Well yeah, it’s another planet.”

(Altina) “Instructors Rean, Towa, Aigis, and Kazuma seem to have sufficient knowledge of the planet, despite how much time has passed.”

(Kurt) “If I had to guess, like us. Especially the Garreg Mach students, I don’t think they ever anticipated on going on a journey like this.”

(Musse) “Hm…I don’t think the original three houses ever went on this planet, did they?”

(Ash) “Don’t think Rean mentioned it…Er, Altina where are we going?”

- Class VII only now realized where they were. The waters had changed from a blue-green tint to almost brown.

- They couldn’t see very well in front of them.

(Altina) “I was told to search for blueprints. The back of the crash site seemed like the most likely area to find some.”

(Juna) “Wasn’t this the one place all the Instructors told us NOT to go?”

(Ash) “Eh, I’m sure it’s fi-”

- Altina looked to her right and almost stopped breathing when she felt her Seamoth shake violently.

- The Reaper Leviathan grabbed her Seamoth and swam towards the sand cliffs, slamming it down.

(Juna) “OH MY GOD, ALTINA!”

(Kurt) “We have to help her!”

(Ash) “GET THAT BASTARD!”

(Musse) “Arcus, activate!”

(Altina) “I REQUIRE ASSISTANCE-”

The Garreg Mach students flew out on their seagliders around the safe shallows, being instructed to grab whatever copper they could find.

Sitri followed them since everyone who had been here before was required to stick with a group.

Not to mention she had been here with Byleth before.

(Elizabeth) “Ugh, this is quite unpleasant…”

(Helena) “What, don’t like the ocean?”

(Elizabeth) “Helena, dear. I enjoy the ocean as much as any girl would-”

(Kairos) “Could’ve fooled me.-”

(Elizabeth) “Shut up, Kairos. And I like walking near the beach, and even swimming. But living inside it and fighting nature? No, I do not like it at all.”

(Stefan) “Y-Yeah this is a bit much for swimming.”

(Astrid) “Least we’re all getting our exercise!”

(Kairos) “…Sure.”

(Helena) “It’ll give us experience in case we ever need to swim underwater.”

(Elizabeth) “Where in Fodlan do we possibly need to swim?!”

(Helena) “With all the places the House keeps dragging us into, it might be handy. Hell, it came in handy for Sitri.”

The group stopped swimming and looked at Sitri, who was gliding right behind them.

(Sitri) “Well, I learned it on the fly like you all are currently. But it is helpful that we’ve been to this world before.”

(Stefan) “Just how many have you been to, Lady Sitri?”

(Sitri) “Let’s see…Here, that one world in the far future, the one where we had to hunt ghosts, the one with the talking animals…”

(Helena) “See? She now has skills that’ll be helpful for surviving in another world.”

(Kairos) “How many times has she been underwater for it?”

Sothis appeared behind Sitri, though the students didn’t seem to notice.

(Sothis) “If only they had met Aqua…”

(Sitri) Yeah, I bet they would’ve been terrified of Leviathans…

(Astrid) “Anyways, this place is seriously freaky. The giant sea monsters trying to eat us, and we can’t even use magic here!”

(Helena) “We could always visit the back of the ship like Class VII did.”

(Stefan) “It’s not so much them I’m worried about, as I am about the dark…”
