#PHnews: EU launches PH cycling tour, fora for Women's Month
MANILA – The European Union Delegation in the Philippines is launching several activities to celebrate the 2021 International Women's month, including a cycling tour, a series of film screenings, dialogues, and roundtable discussions that advocate for gender equity and gender equality.
“It is imperative to ensure the well-being of society and to foster economic growth, prosperity, good governance, peace, and security," said EU Ambassador to the Philippines Luc Véron Tuesday, adding that gender mainstreaming is high on the agenda of the EU in the Philippines.
“The EU ensures that programs implemented in the country are screened through a gender lens taking into consideration the needs of women and girls," he added.
On March 21, Véron will join Filipino bikers and other European envoys such as Ambassadors Saskia de Lang of Netherlands, Michel Goffin of Belgium, Grete Sillasen of Denmark, and Michèle Boccoz of France for a solidarity ride titled "Empowering Women thru Cycling".
The cycling tour will start from Intramuros going to Rizal Park, with SM Mall of Asia as the last stop.
The cycling group will do a short stop at the Binhi ng Kalayaan to highlight the important role of women who fought for the freedom of the country.
A culminating program will then feature stories of seven women whose activities in their daily lives and pandemic have helped their communities.
The activity is initiated by cycling advocates and women’s advocacy groups: Bikers United Movement, Life Cycles Ph, Pinay Bike Commuters Community, and InThePink.
The EU Delegation and the Foreign Service Institute will also conduct a “Women in Diplomacy” webinar on March 22, from 2 to 4 p.m. to discuss the state of play in gender equity and gender equality in diplomacy.
In the coming days, it will lead a discussion for journalists and editors titled "NO JOKE! A Conversation on a Gender Fair, Inclusive, and Empowering Philippine Media" on March 29, April 5 and April 12 together with Miriam College’s Women and Gender Institute.
A series of roundtable discussions on important women’s issues are scheduled on March 15, on governance on March 22, and SPARK Conversations: Women and Feminine Health on March 29.
These roundtable discussions are led by SPARK! Philippines, in partnership with the US Embassy in the Philippines, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Austrian Embassy Manila, the British Embassy Manila, the Embassy of Sweden in Manila, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in the Philippines, the German Embassy Manila, the Embassy of France to the Philippines and Micronesia, UNFPA, Philippine Commission on Women, Women Inter-Industry Network, Philippine Financial & Inter-Industry Pride, Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative and other organizations.
The Institut Français and the French Embassy will also present the 2021 edition of “IFCinéma à la carte,” featuring four French-language films directed by women filmmakers: Angèle et Tony (Angel and Tony) by Alix Delaporte; Le beau monde (High Society) by Julie Lopes Curval; La Cour de Babel (The School of Babel) by Julie Bertuccelli and Tout est pardonné by Mia Hansen-Løve.
All films are subtitled in several languages, including English, and are available for streaming free of charge until March 10 on the IFCinéma à la carte website: https://ifcinema.institutfrancais.com/en/streaming/alacarte (PNA)

Bruxelles.

VARÈSE SARABANDE RECORDS TO RELEASE LOVELESS – ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK Featuring Original Music Composed By Evgueni Galperine and Sacha Galperine (October 31, 2017 – Los Angeles, CA) – Varèse Sarabande will release the LOVELESS – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack on November 10, 2017. The album features the original score composed by Evgueni and Sacha Galperine (THE WIZARD OF LIES, THE PAST). LOVELESS is directed by Andrey Zvyagintsev (LEVIATHAN) and won the award for Best Film at the BFI London Film Festival and the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival. Evgueni and Sacha began to write the score for LOVELESS without seeing a frame of film or a word on paper. “Andrey wanted us to give an absolutely free interpretation of the story based solely on his description, hoping that the music would become a missing piece of the psychological and emotional puzzle,” said Evgueini.
In LOVELESS, Zhenya and Boris are going through a vicious divorce marked by resentment, frustration and recriminations. Already embarking on new lives, each with a new partner, they are impatient to start again, to turn the page – even if it means threatening to abandon their 12-year-old son Alyosha. Until, after witnessing one of their fights, Alyosha disappears… How to process this event would be a central focus of the score. “We had to go deep into our imaginations and emotions,” explained Evgueni, “trying to connect with what is happening in the heads of the parents when their child disappears and their world is reduced to only one thought: find him.” “In the language of music,” Evgueni continued, “ it would be one note, one chord, one rhythm – it’s how the idea of ’11 Cycles of E’ was born.” That piece both opens and closes the film. “Director Andrey Zvyagintsev’s cinema always shows the invisible link between the intimate stories of human beings and the universe. And often the music personifies this link,” said Evgueni. “Finding the way to express this connection was the most incredible and gratifying challenge.” Brothers Evgueni and Sacha Galperine relocated to France, from their native Russia in 1990, to complete the classical music training they’d begun in Moscow. Soon after arriving in Paris, Evgueni was drawn to composing film scores while still studying symphonic composition and electro-acoustic music at the National Conservatory (CNSM) in Paris. Sacha turned to rock and electronic music after receiving a first prize for violin performance at the Conservatory of Versailles. Evgueni and Sacha Galperine are equally at ease and focused on storytelling, whether working on independent films—over a dozen in Europe and Asia— mass-market films, or contributing music to blockbusters like M. Night Shyamalan’s SPLIT, and Garry Ross’ THE HUNGER GAMES. Their international credits include Luc Besson’s THE FAMILY, Asghar Farhadi’s THE PAST, Eric Lartigau’s LA FAMILLE BÉLIER, Alix Delaporte’s LE DERNIER COUP DE MARTEAU (official selection at the Venice IFF), Nicolas Provost ‘s THE INVADER (Best Music award at Ghent Film Festival), Yilmas Arslan’s BRUDERMORD, and Jiang Wenli’s LAN. Their recent credits include the HBO Films Original THE WIZARD OF LIES, starring Robert De Niro and Michelle Pfeiffer, directed by Barry Levinson, the acclaimed French TV show LE BARON NOIR, Courtney Hunt’s THE WHOLE TRUTH and Barry Levinson’s upcoming HBO film HAPPY VALLEY starring Al Pacino. Sony Pictures Classics presents LOVELESS, Russia’s official selection for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2018 Academy Awards. Varèse Sarabande will release the LOVELESS – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally and on CD on November 10, 2017. # # # www.varesesarabande.com www.galperine-galperine.com For more information contact KrakowerGroup[at]gmail.com, or @KrakowerGroup on Twitter ABOUT VARÈSE SARABANDE RECORDS Founded in 1978, Varèse Sarabande is the most prolific producer of film music in the world, releasing the highest quality soundtracks from the world’s greatest composers.

LAKESHORE RECORDS PRESENTS THE WIZARD OF LIES - ORIGINAL HBO FILMS SOUNDTRACK With Original Music by Evgueni Galperine and Sacha Galperine (May 15, 2017 – Los Angeles, CA) – Lakeshore Records will release THE WIZARD OF LIES - Original HBO Films Soundtrack digitally on May 19, 2017. The album features the original score by composers Evgueni Galperine and Sacha Galperine (NINE LIVES, THE FAMILY, THE PAST). Debuting in May, HBO Films’ THE WIZARD OF LIES, examines Bernie Madoff’s Ponzi scheme – his deception, lies and cover-up, all as the financier’s wife and sons are catapulted into a harsh and unrelenting spotlight. A modern take on a scheme that dates back to the 1920’s called for a score that blends both modern and classic elements to tell this tragic tale of what led to a scheme toppling and the subsequent aftermath. Director Barry Levinson turned to the writing duo of Evgueni and Sacha Galperine – who themselves blend modern and traditional musical methods and training.
“Our goal with this score was to find the right musical color palette that would match this extraordinary character and the incomprehensible path he chose, taking the people around him—his clients as, well as his own family—on a descent into hell,” said Sacha. “A major source of inspiration for us was the symbol of the Ponzi Scheme,” added Evgueni. “The cold mathematical pattern of it, the spiral that was set to get bigger and bigger beyond imagination until breaking inevitably into pieces. We tried to translate this mechanical fate into music, with all its strangeness, its suffocation, its absence of humanity.” Brothers Evgueni and Sacha Galperine relocated to France, from their native Russia in 1990, to complete the classical music training they’d begun in Moscow. Soon after arriving in Paris, Evgueni was drawn to composing film scores while still studying symphonic composition and electro-acoustic music at the National Conservatory (CNSM) in Paris.
