i am loving alice as mia, i think she's my fave in the show besides daniel. she's so hilarious. & in interviews she describes what she's wearing which is so cool, i've never heard anyone do that. she embraces her disability but also says whatever she wants. what she's doing in the uk is very much like kurt yaeger is doing here for disabled actors, only she does it for theater. so glad i found her!

Anyone watching Sight Unseen?
Tumblr media
Is anyone watching Sight Unseen? It has some great subtext potential.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tess (Dolly Lewis) is a cop who has to leave her job when she loses her vision, but can't resist trying to solve her last case with the help of Sunny (Agam Darshi), a New York based shut-in that she is paired with as her eyes by an assistance app.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sunny lives in a large, airy apartment and is usually eating, drinking or sorting her closet out while Tess illegally enters shady premsies to try and solve her crime. Apparently it's Sunny-er in NYC than it is in Toronto - some visual punning going on here.
Tumblr media
Tess does give a slight Emily Prentiss vibe and she's got that woman alone, no talking about feelings vibe that we expect from TV cops.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You can see the possibilities in this - there's the whole odd couple, need to work together thing. Sunny is present for all sorts of personal and difficult moments for Tess, meanwhile Sunny's agoraphobia obviously stems from past violence that Tess doesn't yet know about. And they will have to save each other. Episode two and they're already sharing sad backstory.
Sexuality-wise Tess has a male ex-work partner hanging around and we see her have a one night stand with a guy in the first episode. Sunny has an estranged husband, seemingly because of her agoraphobia. I can work with both these for subtext, which is just as well because three episodes in I don't think we are going to get anything intentionally queer from this show.

I know one of the writers has used her struggles with vision loss to inform the story. I'm presuming the actor playing the main character can see, but Mia, a assistance worker tasked with helping a reluctant Tess adjust to her new disability, is played by Alice Christina-Corrigan who is visually impaired.
Someone else watch this and tell me what you think!

The CW, which has been on a live sports and foreign acquisition bender since being bought by Nexstar last year, is dipping into its old playback with the order of two new, original scripted series.
The network announced Thursday that it has greenlit the procedurals Wild Cards, starring Riverdale‘s Vanessa Morgan and Grey’s Anatomy‘s Giacomo Gianniotti, and Sight Unseen, starring newcomer Dolly Lewis and Vampire Diaries/Originals vet Daniel Gillies. Both series are Canadian co-productions, the former with CBC and the latter with CTV.
Wild Cards is described as “a crime-solving procedural with a comedic twist that follows the unlikely duo of a gruff, sardonic cop and a spirited, clever con woman. Ellis (Giacomo Gianniotti), a demoted detective, has unfortunately spent the last year on the maritime unit, while Max (Vanessa Morgan) has been living a transient life elaborately scamming everyone she meets. But when Max gets arrested and ends up helping Ellis solve a local crime, the two are offered the opportunity to redeem themselves, with Ellis going back to detective and Max staying out of jail. The catch? They have to work together, with each using their unique skills to solve crimes. For Ellis, that means hard-boiled shoe leather police work; for Max, it means accents, schemes and generally befriending everyone in sight, while driving Ellis absolutely nuts. The two will have to learn what it means to trust another person and maybe actually become partners.”
Sight Unseen, meanwhile, centers on a “top homicide detective (Dolly Lewis) who is forced to quit the job she loves after nearly killing her partner and being diagnosed as clinically blind. Reluctant to accept help, Tess uses an assistance app and connects with Sunny Patel (Agam Darshi), a professional seeing-eye guide and an agoraphobe living 3,000 miles away. After losing her vision, Tess is haunted by the unsolved cases she left behind. Using a hidden camera and earpiece, Sunny remotely steers Tess through life’s obstacles — and crimes — as the two challenge preconceptions about ability, trust and where to draw the line. Inspired by one of the co-creators’ experiences with sight loss, viewers join Tess and Sunny as they bring a fresh perspective to solving crime.” The series also stars the aforementioned Gillies, Jarod Joseph (The 100), Alice Christina-Corrigan (Doctors) and Tony Giroux (Motherland: Fort Salem).
“Wild Cards and Sight Unseen are two unique, binge-worthy shows that reflect The CW’s commitment to compelling, top-tier storytelling that will appeal to our loyal fans and attract a wide range of new viewers,” said the network’s head of scripted programming, Liz Wise Lyall, in a statement. “We are thrilled to… bring these dynamic series to life and highlight just how expansive The CW brand can be.”
