I will be posting about the rest of them this summer :))

Ever since I learned that you had to actually teach your kids how to do stuff, it's been so much fun having them around. It's very cute to watch them play with something they've never seen before, or only do something after they see me do it first. Idk how much is code and how much is coincidence, but they're undoubtedly better at living now. And their personalities are so unique!
#rain world#art#slugpups#I love my kids sm. I play survivor just to be with them#Love is stored in the slugcat bruh#I really want to know how slugpups work. I haven't seen a dissection of their code anywhere yet#So far all I can tell is that they must be roaming freely before they pick up on anything. It doesn't seem to work if they're on your back#Anyways I installed the colorful slugpups mod which is why the names are weird#Caramel was very pale and algae was more green#Now caramel looks like a banana lmao#Here's a fun thing that happened: while exploring subterranean (after quickly escaping outer expanse aka Worm Grass Hell)#Ironically subterranean is safer than what's supposed to be utopia... but I digress#I was exploring blindly for the first time in forever (usually I look at a map) and we found a stowaway#THOSE THINGS ARE SO COOL I was so excited to mess with it#Turns out theyre scarier than they look. And they look pretty scary#So here's the situation: I pissed it off using the body of a lizard#And it reacted and grabbed the lizard#And also me#And also algae#They have three arms and each arm grabs things independently by STABBING THEM djvdjshfkifj#Anyways algae somehow grabs a spear and frees himself#Caramel throws a rock and frees me#Lizard body... Not so lucky#Later on I stupidly got myself eaten by it#And when you die the slugpups mourn you by laying down as close to your body or point of death was#Which was. Under the stowaway#But get this. As algae is being taken away- keep in mind you're basically stabbed by these tentacles-- he somehow manages to nail the thing#And save caramel from being eaten too#Auuughghgh#I have more interesting stories that aren't contrived via my irresponsible curiosity but I've run out of tags. Till next time lol!

actually really sad i had to scroll down past several sites telling HOW TO GET RID OF EVIL DETRITUS WORMS to find an article that explains they're not actually that bad.
#i think half these sites take sponsorships to promote all these products that ppl use to completely fuck their tank ecosystem#just to get rid of a bug or some green algae#hey guys i nuked my tank cycle and ecosystem because i saw a few worms and now my fish are dead what should i do#i love algae and i wouldn't mind some small bugs in there it's free food.#amazing how many ppl into this don't actually like aquatic ecosystems and just want a barren pristine glass box of rocks#hades.txt

i love animals that will eat their own babies or siblings cos its so awesome. theres not enough room in this ecosystem to sustain both of us beyond this moment so i will eat you to maintain balance. i know they dont think that way but its how nature just works i s'pose. terratorial boundries too that maintain a perfect amount of area for 1 apex preditor to live cos if there was 2 or 3 the ecosystem would b decimated.
#my danios made me think of this. they keep laying eggs but no babies ever emerge because the eggs and fry are eatten by the adults.#i rarely ever feed my fish theyve lived in harmony in that tank for almost a year now without food.#the daphina and small worms and algae and debris sustains them. but there isnt room or enough food in the ecosystem for more#so they get eatten because their parents are always hunting for food and the eggs are just there#but if i fed the tank the eggs wouldnyt get eatten because the adults wouldnt be actively looking for a meal in their teratory#and then the eggs would hatch and the fry would survive because there is an excess of food and neutrience to be eatten#when 1 dies off the chances the eggs are found will lower and there will be a higher chance of population increase#so naturally the population is maintained at an and optimized level to keep the tank running smooth without my intervention#and this is all becasue they eat their own young and dont overpopulate the tank by self regulating the population naturally.

None of my Splinters can particularly cook well.
Ageswap Yoshi - this kid’ll eat pretty much anything and doesn’t have particularly high standards for food. Learned how to cook from Mikey and Casey, so can make decent meals, but if let to his own devices he will just live off peanut butter and jelly sandwiches
Dead doesn’t mean gone Splinter - how to cook is one of the things he’s completely forgotten how to do. When Mikey starts learning how to cook, Splinter helps and there’s a 50/50 chance that he’ll remember how to do something midway through meal prep. Is surprisingly good at using a campfire to cook.
Stolen Child Splinter - Tang Shen wants to know how her husband hasn’t gotten scurvy yet. He’ll make sure the boys all have a balanced diet with everything they need, but if it wasn’t for her he’d just have a cup of tea for dinner.
Lost Boys Splinter - pretty much the same as SC!Splinter, only Saki is also yelling at him to eat properly. Saki barely has room to talk
Nanana Ratman Splinter - before getting mutated he was that person in the friend group who says they have food at home and said food consists of an open packet of rice crackers, a carrot, tea bags, and some milk. After getting mutated, his diet did not get any better. Kirby and Arnold have been trying to convince him that he can’t live off rice, peanut butter, and tea for years. Onryo is amused that this ninja master has the palette of a 10 year old left unattended
Ghost Splinter 2 - doesn’t need to eat or drink anymore due to being dead. Not sure if he can do either of those things outside of special circumstances. Does end up cooking with Mikey so they can spend some time together - the guys are all horrified when they realise Mikey’s unique sense of taste (I will never forget the pizza milkshake) is something he inherited from Splinter
Timeskip Splinter - honestly he forgets to eat most of the time. Is just as bad as nanana ratman Splinter and SC!Splinter. April and Casey will bring him food to make sure he’s eating something. Karai just barges into the Lair, and drags him into the kitchen
#tmnt#tmnt 2012#tmnt au#tmnt ageswap au#nanana ratman au#dead doesn't mean gone au#ghost splinter 2 electric boogalo#this is a man who willingly ate algae and worms for 15 years#and eats frozen slices of cheese on a stick with nothing else#you cannot convince me he's a good cook#the one thing he can make well is tea

Lol we regularly get nitrates up to 20 ppm in my lake ♻️🦞crawdaddy Follow uhhh you shouldn't be bragging about that, it's really unsafe ♻️🐟carpy-diem Follow suck it you little oligotrophic bitch
🐢snappturt Follow Dear Tumblr, am I the Basshole for the way I catch minnows? I was chatting with some of the guys I bask with and they said the way I catch minnows is problematic; What I do is I sit on the bottom of the lake, I hide myself in the mud and I open my mouth. My tongue looks a lot like a little worm so I wiggle it around- and because of that, minnows swim over and check it out. Once they get close enough, then I bite down and eat them. Some of my rockmates have told me that this is manipulative and toxic behavior- but they also eat minnows...I don't know guys...

🐠Shadlad Follow I'm not sorry, and I'm not afraid to say it, if you're an introduced species, go dry yourself out. You're not welcome to eat up all of our resources and live in my ancestral longs and rock crags. These things are for us to relate to and not for you to squander.
♻️🦞crevice-steve Follow
Can't believe this type of fishcourse is still popular on this site, introduced species didn't choose to be introduced and have as much of a right to live as anyone else. Bigotry against introduced species is still bigotry and that's a hill I will dry on. ♻️🐠Shadlad Follow Go ahead, dry yourself out then ;) ♻️🪷nootnootnewt Follow Hey man, I hate invasive species as much as anyone else but please stop telling people to beach themselves for political reasons- yeah that includes inavsives too ♻️🦐typical_scud Follow Did you legit just use the word Invas*ve to describe introduced species? ♻️🦢flatfootswimmer Follow anyone in this thread eat pondweed?
♻️🐟largemouthbASS Follow A colab with my mutual @2xcrested_cormorant after they got released from the wildlife hospital. They haven't been on much since the Fish and Wildlife Service released them in the wrong lake and it took them a while to get back to their colony. We hope this guide will help you avoid accidentally eating/engaging with bait!

@retromutagn 𝗔𝗦𝗞𝗘𝗗 "is your muse a particularly picky eater? what foods do they refuse to eat?" for mondo and cass both. babeys
mondo isn't picky AT ALL. he actually took to the gecko food-cravings super well and yk why. because he was already doing this bs with his buddies before he was mutated he was basically on jackass!!! he'd already tried the calciworms and stuff his pet gecko was munching on (what, he's gonna feed his little guy by himself and not sample the wares??) so when he makes the transformation he's like literally what ever. this ain't so bad and you are all being cringe and dramatic. i have literally eaten shaving foam before and i didn't react this badly
CASS HOWEVER. will turn his nose up at simply everything. raph did suuuch a good job of keeping him on veggies when he was a baby (with ONE piece of pepperoni as a TREAT) - whenever we see him eating pizza, he has been sneaky and stolen it which is why it's always on the floor - but when he grows up he becomes a MENACE. he won't eat mushrooms, he won't eat chili, he won't eat green peppers, he will barely even LOOK at algae and worms. he's good for eating fruits, though. he likes dried banana slices and LOVES rings of pineapple.
#retromutagn#cass be COMPLAINING bro he wasnt raised on algae and worms like these guys#𝗠𝗢𝗡𝗗𝗢 𝗚𝗘𝗖𝗞𝗢 𝟮𝟬𝟭𝟮 : oh so uncomfortably numb.#𝗖𝗛𝗢𝗠𝗣𝗬 𝗣𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗦𝗦𝗢 𝟮𝟬𝟭𝟮 : shoulder his legacy with pride.#𝗗𝗜𝗥𝗞 𝗖𝗛𝗔𝗧 : queue.

out of pure, unbridled curiosity: do you remember what it tastes like
Not every good compared to human food. Very slimey... The worms were earthy and were pretty much the only things that separated any form of texture from the algae
#Mikey tried to cook the food in different ways#Sometimes he'd fry the worms in a pan to make them tougher and give them a different texture#Just to help seperate them from the algae and give us something slightly different#Sometimes Mikey would cook the worms and then put them in a bowl. He's eat them as a snack. Sewer french fries#➼ Inbox#➼ Blue turtle inner workings

Simple lifeform facts I take for granted that I've now seen blowing people's minds on here:
That sea urchins walk around and have mouths with teeth on their undersides
That corals are related to jellyfish
Barnacles being related to crabs and shrimp
Ants being an offshoot of wasps
Termites being totally unrelated to ants and all similarities just being convergent evolution (they're actually a group of cockroaches, but even science didn't know that part until a few years ago)
Starfish having an eye at the end of each arm
That the bodies of ticks and mites are also their heads, essentially big heads with legs (they even frequently have eyes way up on "the body")
Sperm whales have no upper teeth, and also their bodies are flat from the front
Goats also having no upper (front) teeth
Tapeworms having no mouth at all and just absorbing nutrients over their entire body surface
That flies are bigger pollinators than bees
That moths are bigger pollinators than bees
That wasps are just as important pollinators as bees (more important to many groups of plants) and when we say they're "less efficient" at it we just mean individually they get a little less pollen stuck to them.
That honeybees are nonnative to most of the world and not good for the local ecosystem, just good for human agriculture
That earthworms are also nonnative and destructive to more habitats than the reverse
There being no hard biological line between slugs and snails; all slugs aren't necessarily related to each other and there are gastropod groups where some have shells and some don't
That ALL octopuses (not just the blue ring) have a venomous bite
Most jellyfish and sea anemones being predators that eat fish
"Krill" being shrimp up to a few inches long and not some kind of microbe
Blue whales therefore being the deadliest predators to ever evolve as they eat up to several million individual animals per day
That krill are still "plankton" because plankton refers to whatever animals, algae and other organisms are carried around by the sea's currents, not to any particular group of life or a size category
Fungi being no more related to plants than we are, and in fact more like a sibling to the animal kingdom if anything
Venus fly traps being native to only one small area of North America in all the world
Parasites being essential to all ecosystems
Leeches not having a circular ring of teeth anywhere
That algae is not a type of plant
That most seaweed is just very big algae
That enough wood ends up in the ocean that plenty of sea life evolved to eat only wood
Speaking of which the fact that the "ship worms" that make tunnels in wood are just long noodly clams
Butterflies technically just being a small weird group of moths we gave a different name to
That insects only get wings once they reach maximum size and therefore there can never be a younger smaller bee or fly that's not a larva
Spiders not being any more likely to kill their own mates/young than just a cat or dog might, for most species maybe a lot less often?

i would love to enjoy Creature worldbuilding but I always get hung up in how the Iconic Creature, the large, charismatic, often predator-type beast with a backbone and legs and all that, is such an Egregiously Huge Anomaly in creaturedom, an Outlier in a world of nematodes, springtails, beetles, and nondescript fossorial mammals
It's not that I need realistic nematode biodiversity in my reading. It's just that humans are megafauna, but we don't realize that we are megafauna, and worldbuilders are unimpressed with anything smaller than a fox, even though a fox is absolutely vast in the grand scheme of things...
...and fantasy worlds are populated with Gigantic Creatures, hypercarnivores the size of a usual land megaherbivore in real life, because of the undeniable badassery of riding a giant wolf into battle or whatever. But I can't help but think: where is the rest? Y'all know that the tigers and wolves of the world are the tenuously small tip of a pyramid of animal biomass, right? That the large herbivores they prey upon are in turn a pebble perched atop the summit of a mountain, made of the frogs, snakes, rodents, bats, and little birds that are incomprehensibly more numerous, and yet in turn are insignificant compared with the bugs, worms, snails, and slugs, let alone the microorganisms that render us all a mere smudge on the lens of deep time?
A deer, a human...we are gods among life-forms, worlds in ourselves inhabited by our own creatures. Disgust towards parasites is of course an instinctive reaction created by evolutionary pressures, but just think! animals vast enough to be inhabited by their own macroscopic animals! Imagine being a worm in the belly of a deer, unable to survive outside it any more than a human can survive in the vacuum of space, unable perhaps to comprehend that anything exists outside of the body of your god.
Imagine being a tardigrade frolicking in a pasture of algae and moss, unable to understand that this meadow exists on the branch of an enormous tree, and that this tree is itself only a single tree in a forest of millions, that when viewed from above resemble a lush carpet much like the moss. Imagine being a centipede in the permanent darkness of a deep underground cave, unable to know or imagine that there are other caves, that even though you and a hundred thousand generations of your ancestors have been confined to this single cave, that thousands of other caves exist, and that beyond these caves there is a world so much bigger you cannot possibly understand it, a world that stretches farther than you could see or travel in a thousand lifetimes, a world with no ceiling.
Imagine being removed from the cave! You learn that you ancestors came from this infinite place beyond the cave, that your relatives inhabit every part of it, that your family is more numerous than you could ever learn to count!
...what was I talking about again?...
