Deadline questa notte ha raccontato di un accordo tra CBS Tv Studios e la Propagate di Ben Silverman e Howard Owens in merito al rilancio televisivo del mitico Zorro. Secondo la fonte, però, il nuovo eroe non sarà interpretato dal solito protagonista…

CBS TV Studios is in development on a female-led reboot of “Zorro” as part of a first-look deal with Propagate, the production company run by Ben Silverman and Howard Owens.

The first-look agreement covers scripted projects from Propagate as well as its subsidiaries Electus and Big Breakfast, across all platforms.

The “Zorro” re-imagining will be written and executive produced by Alfredo Barrios Jr. It is described as a modern-day retelling of the Zorro mythology that follows Z, a female descendant of warrior bloodline, who will go to great lengths to protect the defenseless in her community. The project is currently set at NBC.

“Zorro” has been adapted for the screen numerous times, mostly for the big screen. Douglas Fairbanks, Antonio Banderas and Alain Delon have all played the masked hero. There was also a “Zorro” TV series that aired in the 1950s.

Additionally, Propagate is in development on two other projects: “Home,” also set at NBC, from “Queen of the South” writer Jorge Reyes, and an untitled series from Melissa Scrivner-Love, which is set up at CBS. “Home” follows a wealthy Puerto Rican family whose lives are upended when the daughter unexpectedly gains control of the family empire following the death of the patriarch.

‘Hotel Cocaine’: Danny Pino To Headline MGM+ Crime Thriller Series

EXCLUSIVE: With Mayans M.C. coming to an end, star Danny Pino has lined up his next series role — the lead in Hotel Cocaine, MGM+’s upcoming crime thriller from creator Chris Brancato (Narcos).

Hotel Cocaine is the story of Roman Compte (Pino), a Cuban expatriate who fought against Fidel Castro in the Bay of Pigs invasion and re-made his life in Miami. He is general manager of the Mutiny Hotel, the glamorous epicenter of the Miami cocaine scene of late ‘70s and early ‘80s. The Mutiny Hotel was Casablanca on cocaine, a glitzy nightclub, restaurant, and hotel frequented by Florida businessmen and politicians, international narcos, CIA and FBI agents, models, sports stars, and musicians. At the center of it all was Compte, who was doing his best to keep it all going and fulfill his own American dream.

Brancato serves as executive producer and showrunner. Guillermo Navarro will direct the pilot episode and executive produce the series, with Michael Panes and Alfredo Barrios Jr. also serving as executive producers. The eight-episode series from MGM+ Studios, in partnership with MGM Television, will begin production in May in the Dominican Republic, and is slated to premiere in early 2024.

Pino, born and raised in Miami to Cuban parents, stars as organized crime boss Miguel Galindo in Mayans M.C., which is heading into its fifth and final season on FX. He made his episodic directorial debut in the drama’s fourth season. Pino, also known for his roles as police detective Nick Amaro on Law & Order: SVU and Detective Scotty Valens on Cold Case, recently completed the short film, Union de Reyes (Union of Kings), which he wrote, directed, produced and starred in. He is repped by CAA and manager Geordie Frey.

Hotel Cocaine will be distributed internationally by MGM.

Your Negotiating Committee is pleased to report that we have reached a tentative agreement with the AMPTP that we can recommend for ratification.

In it, we made gains in minimums across the board – as well as contribution increases to our Health Plan that should ensure its solvency for years to come. And we further expanded our protections in Options and Exclusivity.

We also made unprecedented gains on the issue of short seasons in television, winning a definition (which has never before existed in our MBA) of 2.4 weeks of work for each episodic fee. Any work beyond that span will now require additional payment for hundreds of writer-producers.

We won a 15% increase in Pay TV residuals, roughly $15 million in increases in High-Budget SVOD residuals, and, for the first time ever, residuals for comedy-variety writers in Pay TV.

And, also for the first time ever, job protection on Parental Leave.

Did we get everything we wanted? No. Everything we deserve? Certainly not. But because we had the near-unanimous backing of you and your fellow writers, we were able to achieve a deal that will net this Guild’s members $130 million more, over the life of the contract, than the pattern we were expected to accept.

That result, and that resolve, is a testament to you, your courage, and your faith in us as your representatives.

We will, of course, provide more details in the next few days. But until then, we just wanted to thank you – and congratulate you. Your voices were indeed heard.

MANILA — President Rodrigo Duterte has named Court of Appeals (CA) Justice Samuel H. Gaerlan as new Supreme Court associate justice, Malacañang said on Wednesday. “Confirmed,” Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo told Palace reporters in a chance interview at Malacañan’s Rizal Hall.

Duterte appointed Gaerlan because of his "competence and integrity," Panelo said.

 Panelo said Gaerlan will take an oath before the President on Wednesday afternoon. He, however, did not disclose further details about Gaerlan’s promotion to the high tribunal. Malacañang has likewise yet to release Gaerlan’s appointment paper. Gaerlan will fill the seat at the high court vacated by Diosdado Peralta who was appointed as Chief Justice in October 2019. He completed the 15-man Supreme Court, also composed of Justices Estela M. Perlas-Bernabe, Marvic Mario Victor F. Leonen, Alfredo Benjamin S. Caguioa, Andres B. Reyes Jr., Alexander G. Gesmundo, Jose C. Reyes Jr., Ramon Paul L. Hernando, Rosmari D. Carandang, Amy C. Lazaro-Javier, Henri Jean Paul B. Inting, Rodil V. Zalameda, Mario V. Lopez, Edgardo L. delos Santos, and Chief Justice Peralta. He bested five individuals who made it to the shortlist of candidates vying for a seat at the Supreme Court, namely Jose Midas Marquez, Manuel Barrios, Ramon Garcia, Jhosep Lopez, and Eduardo Peralta Jr. Gaerlan was an alumnus of San Beda College of Law like Duterte. He was also a professor at the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila. Gaerlan also served as Public Attorney’s Office lawyer before he became a trial court judge. (PNA)
