Dem kognitiven Abbau vorbeugen Das soziale Netzwerk ist entscheidend

Erlangen-Nürnberg, 13.08.2024. FAU-Studie untersucht den Einfluss von sozialer Isolation auf die kognitiven Fähigkeiten

Neben Hörverlust, Bluthochdruck und Diabetes gehört soziale Isolation bei älteren Menschen zu den veränderbaren Risikofaktoren, die die Entwicklung einer Demenz begünstigen können. Ein interdisziplinäres Forschungsteam der Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) hat nun den Zusammenhang zwischen sozialer Isolation und kognitiven Beeinträchtigungen erforscht. Die Ergebnisse zeigen: Menschen mit kognitiven Beeinträchtigungen haben ein hohes Risiko, sozial isoliert von Freunden und Familienangehörigen zu sein. Dies berichten die Forschenden des Digitalen Demenzregisters Bayern (digiDEM Bayern) in der renommierten Fachzeitschrift PlosOne*.

Ob das gemeinsame Kaffeekränzchen oder die Senioren-Sportgruppe: Soziale Interaktionen sind ein wichtiger Eckpfeiler des Lebens. Mangelt es an diesen oder fehlen soziale Bindungen, gelten Menschen als sozial isoliert. „Aktuelle internationale Studien zeigen, dass auch bei kognitiv gesunden älteren Menschen die geistige Leistungsfähigkeit abnimmt, sobald sich die Betroffenen vom gesellschaftlichen Leben zurückziehen“, sagt Lisa Laininger, Erstautorin der Studie und wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin bei dem Versorgungsforschungsprojekt digiDEM Bayern.

Risikofaktor für Demenz

Besonders unter älteren Menschen ist das Phänomen der sozialen Isolation weit verbreitet und kann mit gravierenden gesundheitlichen Problemen verbunden sein. Soziale Isolation kann darüber hinaus den Rückgang kognitiver Funktionen begünstigen. „Sind die sozialen Bindungen beeinträchtigt, kann dies zu einem erhöhten Risiko für körperliche sowie psychische Erkrankungen wie zum Beispiel Demenz, aber auch zu einer erhöhten Sterblichkeit führen“, berichtet der Neurologe Prof. Dr. Peter Kolominsky-Rabas, Co-Autor und digiDEM Bayern-Projektleiter.

Daten von Menschen mit kognitiven Beeinträchtigungen

In ihrer Studie haben die FAU-Forschenden über eine Verlaufszeit von 12 Monaten die Daten von 106 Personen ausgewertet. Erhoben wurden deren Daten im Rahmen des Versorgungsforschungsprojektes digiDEM Bayern, einer Langzeituntersuchung mit Teilnehmenden aus allen Regierungsbezirken Bayerns. Eine weitere Besonderheit der Studie ist es, dass alle Befragten bereits Anzeichen kognitiver Beeinträchtigungen aufzeigten und darüber hinaus nicht auf die Unterstützung von pflegenden An- und Zugehörigen angewiesen waren.

„In den Netzwerken älterer Menschen sind Familie und Freunde die beiden wichtigsten Komponenten“, erläutert Lisa Laininger. „Wir wissen auch aus anderen Studien, dass die Zusammensetzung des persönlichen Netzwerks, also ob es sich um Freunde oder Familienmitglieder handelt, eine weitaus gr��ßere Rolle zu spielen scheint als die Größe des Netzwerkes oder die Häufigkeit der Kontakte.“

Dabei gibt es vielfältige Gründe, weshalb das Risiko der sozialen Isolation mit dem Alter zunimmt. „Ältere Menschen neigen einerseits eher dazu, sich zurückzuziehen, andererseits wird der Freundeskreis oft kleiner, wenn Altersgenossen pflegebedürftig werden oder versterben.“

Ausmaß der sozialen Isolation

Ein zentrales Interesse der Wissenschaftler um Lisa Laininger galt der Frage nach dem Ausmaß der sozialen Isolation – ein bislang noch wenig untersuchter Aspekt. So zeigte sich, dass 42,5 Prozent der Teilnehmenden ein erhöhtes Risiko für ein inadäquates Netzwerk aus Freunden aufwiesen. Zu ähnlichen Ergebnissen kamen auch andere Forschende. Im Unterschied dazu lag das Risiko der sozialen Isolation gegenüber Familienmitgliedern bei nur 17 Prozent.

Freund/-innen wichtiger als Familie

Des Weiteren untersuchten die Forschenden, inwiefern sich das Risiko der sozialen Isolation auf den Verlauf der kognitiven Fähigkeiten auswirkt. „Unsere Ergebnisse deuten darauf hin, dass Freundschaften einen größeren Einfluss auf den Verlauf der kognitiven Fähigkeiten zu haben scheinen als familiäre Bindungen“, sagt die digiDEM Bayern-Wissenschaftlerin Lisa Laininger. Dafür kann es eine Vielzahl an Gründen geben. In Freundschaften neige man eher dazu, gemeinsam an sozialen Aktivitäten teilzunehmen oder sich zwanglos auszutauschen. Co-Autor Prof. Dr. Peter Kolominsky-Rabas ergänzt: „Dies fördert die kognitive Leistungsfähigkeit. Zudem können gleichaltrige Freund/-innen hinsichtlich des Gesundheitsbewusstseins auch als Vorbild dienen und zum Beispiel zur Teilnahme an sportlichen Aktivitäten motivieren.“

In ihrer Studie haben die Forschenden aber nicht nur den Zusammenhang zwischen dem Grad der Zurückgezogenheit und der Kognition untersucht. Werden andere klassische Risikofaktoren für Demenz wie zum Beispiel Alter, Geschlecht oder Bildungsgrad in der Auswertung berücksichtigt, sind die Einflüsse der Netzwerke von Freund/-innen auf die Kognition nicht mehr eindeutig nachweisbar. „In diesem Fall scheinen diese Faktoren einen größeren Einfluss auf die kognitiven Fähigkeiten zu haben“, sagt Lisa Laininger.

Aufmerksamkeit schenken

Dennoch erfordere das Thema „Freundschaften im Alter“ speziell für Menschen mit kognitiven Beeinträchtigungen eine besondere Aufmerksamkeit. „Das Risiko, enge und vertrauensvolle Beziehungen zu Menschen außerhalb ihres familiären Umfelds nicht mehr aufrechterhalten zu können, scheint für diese Personengruppe besonders hoch zu sein“, sagt Prof. Dr. Peter Kolominsky-Rabas. Schwierigkeiten, sozial zu interagieren oder erste Anzeichen von Gedächtnisverlust – wenn man sich etwa nicht mehr an Termine zu erinnern vermag – können das Sozialverhalten beeinträchtigen und den individuellen Rückzug fördern.

Zielgruppenspezifische Angebote schaffen

Für die Forschenden ist es daher ein entscheidender Faktor, dass zukünftig gerade für diese Personengruppe entsprechende Angebote ins Leben gerufen werden. „Um Menschen, die bereits von kognitiven Beeinträchtigungen betroffen sind, dabei zu unterstützen, bestehende Freundschaften aufrechtzuerhalten oder sogar neue, nicht verwandtschaftliche Beziehungen aufzubauen, ist es notwendig, zielgruppenspezifische Angebote wie Kunst- oder Bewegungsaktivitätsgruppen für Menschen mit und ohne Demenz oder kognitive Beeinträchtigung zu schaffen“, fasst Lisa Laininger zusammen. Soziale Isolation gehört – wie auch Rauchen, Bewegungsmangel oder Diabetes – zu den Risikofaktoren für Demenz, die veränderbar sind.

digiDEM Bayern baut ein digitales Demenzregister für Bayern auf, um den Langzeitverlauf der Erkrankung besser zu verstehen und die Versorgungssituation von Menschen mit Demenz und deren An- und Zugehörigen in ganz Bayern zu verbessern. Dafür werden Menschen mit leichten kognitiven Beeinträchtigungen oder Demenz und ihre pflegenden An- und Zugehörigen zu ihrer Situation systematisch befragt.

Mit 2.000 Studienteilnehmenden aus ganz Bayern hat das Digitale Demenzregister Bayern (digiDEM Bayern) mittlerweile einen Rekordstand erreicht. Damit ist digiDEM Bayern das größte Demenzregister in Deutschland und gehört im Bereich Demenzforschung zu einem der umfangreichsten Projekte zur Erfassung von Langzeitdaten in der Europäischen Union (EU).

digiDEM Bayern ist ein interdisziplinäres Forschungsprojekt der Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, des Universitätsklinikums Erlangen und des Innovationsclusters Medical Valley Europäische Metropolregion Nürnberg. Gefördert wird das Projekt vom Bayerischen Staatsministerium für Gesundheit, Pflege und Prävention (StMGP) im Rahmen des Masterplans „BAYERN DIGITAL II“.

symptomatic of my longstanding & somewhat disturbing curiosity that my eyes zoom in on any mention of opticians, such as on pg 17 of the Altmann biography

of all the artisanal goods produced in the 16th-19th century, glasses & other lenses seem to be coded as Jewish in contemporary literature. This pattern is particularly visible in E.T.A. Hoffman's short story "The Sandman," where the antisemitically-coded mad scientist Coppelius (a.k.a. my favorite character) reappears as a seller of magical lenses which deceive the protagonist Nathanael into falling in love with the automaton Olympia.

Within Hoffman's tale the glasses Coppelius handles are associated with the dominant eye-motif of the story & possibly with the alchemical instruments of Nathanael's father, but it doesn't offer an explanation for the broader use of glasses to feminize/racialize/demean Jewish characters in literature. Was optics a field of production not regulated by guilds with restrictive religious covenants? Was it a result of the lingering obsession with Spinoza? Something else entirely?

I know prejudice doesn't "make sense" but I wonder if there's not a term paper in here somewhere. Probably about Knobloch's symbolic inversion of the Coppelius encounters in his descriptions of Dr. Schiff within Herr Moses in Berlin.

Garage DU 2023: Sieben Matches beim Pitch-Event

Zuvor hatten die Gründerinnen und Gründer eine Hafenrundfahrt sowie eine Kieztour durch Ruhrort unternommen. „Damit sollen die Start-ups ein erstes Kennenlern-Gefühl für die Stadt, ihre Bürgerinnen und Bürger sowie unsere wirtschaftlichen Schwerpunkte bekommen“, sagt Rasmus C. Beck, Geschäftsführer des Organisators Duisburg Business & Innovation (DBI). „Wir verstehen das Projekt als einen strategischen Prozess mit dem Ziel, Duisburg als Innovationsstandort für Startups zu etablieren.“ Und das ist das Prinzip: Als Wirtschaftsentwicklung bringt die DBI lokale Unternehmen und nationale wie internationale Start-ups zusammen. 109 Bewerbungen aus ganz Europa hatte es für die zweite Auflage des Wettbewerbs gegeben. Durch eine Fachkommission im Vorfeld ausgewählt, präsentierten sich neun Start-ups vor über 100 Gästen im Rheingoldsaal. Die Partner der Unternehmen aus Duisburg – DVV, GEBAG, Wirtschaftsbetriebe, Sparkasse und duisport – hatten im Vorfeld konkrete Herausforderungen formuliert und mussten beim Pitch-Event aus den Lösungsideen der Start-ups ihre Matches finden. Die Duisburger Versorgungs- und Verkehrsgesellschaft hat dabei zwei Treffer gelandet: einerseits SmartInspection aus Österreich. Die Ausgründung der Stadtwerke Wien bietet eine automatisierte Fehleranalyse durch den Einsatz von Drohnen, Robotik und künstlicher Intelligenz, womit sich zum Beispiel Photovoltaik-Flächen oder Fernwärme-Rohre überprüfen lassen. „Die Spezialisierung auf Energie-Infrastruktur und die vielfältigen Anwendungsmöglichkeiten in unseren verschiedenen Unternehmensbereichen haben für uns bei der Entscheidung den Ausschlag gegeben. Wir sind gespannt, was sich aus dem Austausch mit dem Start-up bei uns im Konzern entwickelt“, sagt Jurymitglied Fabienne Stahl, Leiterin des Teams Organisation und Change in der Unternehmensentwicklung. Überzeugt hatte die DVV auch das Start-up LumoViewaus Köln, das eine Ausgründung des Deutschen Zentrums für Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR) ist, und verspricht, innerhalb weniger Sekunden mit Hilfe von künstlicher Intelligenz und eines Handscanners verlässliche 3D-CAD-Modelle eines Raumes zu erstellen. Auch die Baugesellschaft GEBAG geht den weiteren Weg mit zwei Teams, wie Sandra Altmann als Leiterin der Unternehmensentwicklung erklärt: „Wir freuen uns über den Kontakt zu zwei Start-ups mit nachhaltigen Ideen für uns als wohnungswirtschaftlichen Bestandshalter. Immobilien sind besonders langlebige Wirtschaftsgüter – da knüpft Concular aus Berlin an und beschäftigt sich mit der Lebenszyklusbetrachtung. 2Zero, ebenfalls aus der Hauptstadt, hat wiederum erkannt, dass es zum Einsparen von Energie Investitionen durch den Vermieter braucht – aber auch das passende Nutzerverhalten von Mietern.“ Im Doppelpack gehen die Wirtschaftsbetriebe in die Fit-Phase. „Zoliton aus Bochum können uns zum Beispiel bei der Laubsammlung helfen, mittels Künstlicher Intelligenz und Telematik die Tourenplanung zu dynamisieren und optimieren. Und YourEasyAI aus Essen sind in der Lage, mit der Auswertung von Daten z.B. Verschleiß zu erkennen, bevor er entsteht und so Schaden vorzubeugen – das ist für in den Bereichen interessant, in denen es um Instandsetzung, Instandhaltung und Wartungsarbeiten geht“, erläutert Frank Neuhaus, Inhouse Consultant Urbane Innovation bei der WBD. Alexander Garbar, Leiter Unternehmensentwicklung der Duisburger Hafen AG (duisport), begrüßt das gelungene Matchmaking: „Mit den Gründern von RideBee aus München haben wir ein Start-up an der Hand, das unseren Nachhaltigkeits-Gedanken weiterträgt und eine Plattform für Unternehmen entwickelt hat, die Fahrgemeinschaften in großen Organisationen ermöglicht und vereinfacht. Daher konnten wir gestern als zufriedener Unterstützer der diesjährigen garageDU mit einem gelungenen Match aus dem Pitch-Event hervorgehen. Nun beginnt die spannende Phase, in der wir uns mit RideBee zusammensetzen und über unsere mögliche Zusammenarbeit und Integration im Hafen sprechen werden.“ Diese Vorfreude teilt Fabian Seitz, der Co-Gründer von RideBee: „Wir sehen große Synergieeffekte und sind schon gespannt auf die Demo Night. Das Format der garage DU ist etwas Besonderes und auch das Programm wird sehr professionell organisiert. Ich war das erste Mal in Duisburg und bin ganz positiv überrascht. Vor allem der Hafen war beeindruckend.“ Es scheint sich somit zu bestätigen, was André Gervers, bei der Sparkasse Duisburg im Bereich Unternehmensentwicklung tätig, feststellt: „garage DU ist die richtige Plattform für Gründer, sich zu zeigen, für sich zu werben und sich zu vernetzen. Und wir unterstützen und fördern die garage DU und die Start-ups. Wir beraten Existenzgründer nicht nur umfassend, sondern begleiten sie auch in ihrer Entwicklung. Gemeinsam mit unseren Partnern verfolgen wir das Ziel, dass sich Start-ups nachhaltig als Unternehmen in Duisburg etablieren.“ Davon ist Markus Belitzki überzeugt: „Das Pitch-Event war eine tolle Veranstaltung mit inspirierendem Austausch“, resümiert der Vorstandsreferent Digitalisierung bei der Volksbank Rhein Ruhr als Unterstützer der garage DU. „Ich glaube daran, dass dieses gesponnene Innovations-Netzwerk einen bleibenden Wert für die Zukunft der Stadt Duisburg darstellt.“ Alessandro Benassi, Corporate Partnership Manager der Innovationsplattform startport, zeigt sich sehr zufrieden vor allem mit dem Scouting-Prozess als Teamleistung: „Wir sind stolz auf die insgesamt über 100 Bewerbungen von professionellen Gründerinnen und Gründern. Schön zu sehen, dass jeder Partner eine Startup-Idee für sein Unternehmen und seine Fragestellungen einzusetzen wusste und es ein gelungenes Matchmaking gab.“ Nach dem Pitch-Event folgen nun Workshops und die Umsetzung der Projektideen zwischen den Partner-Unternehmen und den ausgewählten Start-ups. Den Abschluss der garage DU 2023 bildet am 26. Oktober die Demo Night mit der Präsentation der Projektergebnisse und einer großen Preisverleihung – es winken Prämien und Sachpreise in Höhe von bis zu 50.000 Euro. Schauplatz für das große Finale ist diesmal der Landschaftspark-Nord in Duisburg.
