“Colonel.”
“Doctor.”
“Have a drink with me?” He offered. “Nothing too strong, I promise.”
“Getting used to life here?”
“Slowly, I love the people here. I can see why you and Rudy and the rest of the Los Vaqueros are fighting to protect this place.” You slowly took a sip of the liqueur, cocking your eyebrow as the hot burning sensation slowly slid down your throat. Alejandro chuckled at your expression.
“I thought you are used to strong alcohol with whisky.”
You rolled your eyes. “It’s not that strong for me. I just… wasn’t expecting it. Since you said it’s nothing strong.”
“Sorry.”
Footsteps and quiet chatting noises come and go outside his office as the two of you sip on the drink, in silence.
“Thank you for your drink. I better get back to my report.” You drain the last bit of the alcohol, before standing up and taking your leave. “Doctor.”
“Mmm?” “Have a drink with me.. Every night?”
You paused. “Only because you're cute.”
He laughed.
Tumblr media
“Doctor.” “Mmm? What is it? Colonel.” “Do you trust me?” “Of course.” you mumbled.  “Then sleep.” “Why?”
“You look like you are about to drop onto the floor. Come on.” He opened his arm, pulling you into his lap.
The whole room soon filled with your light snoring sound.
Tumblr media
“Doctor.”
“Mmm.”
“Have a drink with me.. Every night?”
“Or the rest of your life?” You smiled.
“I thought we already established that.”
You chuckled. “ You assume so.”
He cock his eyebrow. “I thought what I said to you last night was enough.”
“Maybe, maybe not.” You teased.
Tumblr media
“Colonel.”
“Mmm?”
“You should be more careful.” you sighed as you finished off the bandaging.
“I know.” “The baby won’t be happy to know their Papa is coming home with another scar.”
“Sorry…”
“....”
“Papa?”
Tumblr media
“Colonel.”
“Mmm.”
“Sleep.” You whispered.
“I can’t.” “You earned it. You've done enough. Time to rest.”
“ But…” you shushed him.
“Cariño. Rudy and the team will take care of the rest. You got nothing to worry about. Trust them.”
Tumblr media
“Mi vida.”
“... mmm?”
“Te amo.” “Love you too Ale. Love you too.”

Mi Querida Esposa || Alejandro Vargas
For @glitterypirateduck's “Amor a Alejandro” writing challenge! I used prompt 16. "Nothing is ever simple".
Rating: G Words: 2.6K Tags: f!reader, you/your pronouns but no Y/N, Spanish terms of endearment, best friends to lovers, forced marriage (but not like THAT), friendly bickering, drinking, kissing, no smut. Summary: Alejandro's parents have been pestering him to settle down and get married. He lies that he and reader (his best-friend) are dating. The lie snowballs. a/n: I imagined that both Alejandro and reader are Mexican! Only curse words and terms of endearment are in Spanish.
a/n #2: I wrote a follow-up for this one shot: Check here
Tumblr media
“Please, it’s just dinner!” Alejandro said as he stood in your kitchen at 6 P.M.
You had just gotten home from work, and barely had time to kick off your shoes and start on dinner when the front door to your apartment opened and your best friend came strolling in.
Not even a minute later, he was groveling (on his feet, because he’s too proud to do it on his knees) for your help.
“Are you drunk, Ale?” You ask him as you continue stirring the pasta in the boiling water so it doesn’t stick.
“No, I’m not.” He replies loudly as he gets as close to you as possible, leaning his hip on the counter next to him. “Please.” He pleads again. “It’s really simple, I promise you!” He continues.
“Simple? Ale, nothing is ever simple with you!” You retort as you use your hand to pinch the bridge of your nose. “You’ve just asked me to marry you!” You ask him as you look up at him.
Sometimes you resent yourself for being such a good actress. It’s part of the reason why you find yourself pretending not to like Alejandro as much as you do. You swear you want to be a bit more caring and affectionate toward him… but you always end up bickering with him and giving him attitude.
“Please!” He turns you away from the pasta pot and puts both hands on your shoulders, staring at you like a deranged, desperate man.
“Vato [dude], nobody is going to believe that we’re dating, let alone wanting to get married.” You tell him as you give him a deadpan, unconvinced look.
There was a time in the past when you would’ve bent yourself over backward for an opportunity to date (or say that you’re dating) Alejandro. But that was ages ago, a crush you have long since outgrown… Or so you think.
“Ay carajo [For fuck’s sake], they don’t have to 100% believe it! Just have to instill reasonable doubt!” He attempts to reason. “Please, flaca [skinny girl*]!” He tells you.
You shake away his hands from your shoulders and set your hands on your hips over your apron. “Why don’t you just go out and find yourself an actual girlfriend, for once?” You retort.
“This, again?” He grumbles. “I. already. told. you!” He says while slapping his right hand against his palm to punctuate his sentence. “I don’t have the time or the patience to go out and meet someone!” He groans in frustration. “I’m busy with work!”
“Ale, you’re a grown man and an Army Colonel at that.” You remind him. “You’re telling me you’re scared of telling your parents you’re focused on your career?” You add in a teasing, mocking tone.
“Oye! I’m not scared!” He denies it as he points a finger in your face. “I just wanted them to stop annoying me!” He adds as he looks away and grumbles under his breath.
“And you think lying about being in a relationship with me would make it better?” You scold him and nod your head in an act of defiance. “Your parents know me, Ale, they’ll realize that we’re not dating the moment they see us!”
“They kept pestering me to get married, loca [crazy girl], I had to lie.” He grumbles in reply as he throws his hands up and turns away. “And it did make it better!” He retorts and waves his hands in the air. “They were off my case for the last 6 months!” He adds.
“SIX MONTHS?!” You ask as your jaw drops. “You told them this SIX MONTHS AGO and didn’t think to tell me before?” You scold him. He turns to look at you like a naughty kid being lectured by his mother, his face set into a grimace.
“What if I crossed paths with your mamá [mom] at the market, huh?!” You ask in shock as you point at yourself with both hands. “What would’ve happened then? What if someone had seen me on a date with another man?!” You add in surprise.
“But you didn’t! And I know you would’ve had my back if she started asking questions!” He adds, which causes you to glare at him angrily.
Alejandro hangs his head before taking a long, deep breath. “I’m sorry, okay?!” He ends up saying earnestly. “I just wanted them to stop acting like I’m a disgrace for being 38, single, and, allegedly, ‘miserable’!” He justified himself.
“But you are miserable and single!” You retort. As punishment, he wraps an arm around you and gives you a noogie. “Ay, puta madre [for fuck’s sake], Alejandro!” You demand as you slip away from the headlock, smacking at his arm in the process.
Alejandro takes a step toward you again and sets his hands on your shoulders once more, his eyes locked onto yours. “Please, cuata [twin/bestie].” He pleads. “Just this once.” He requests.
“Just ‘this once’? Are you serious?” You ask as you dip your head to the side, looking up at him like he’s lost his mind. “You just told me your parents invited your entire family over for dinner to celebrate our ‘engagement’ and start planning our wedding, Ale!” You remind him. “How is it going to be ‘just this once’?” You add.
“We can pretend to break up after this!” He retorts, making you sigh loudly and rub your eyes with your fingers. “Or… we can get married… for the tax benefits!” He adds, which causes you to look at him sharply, eyes widened and your hand raised to smack him.
“Okay, okay! I’m joking!” He adds while raising his hands defensively. In a lot of ways, you and Alejandro behave like siblings, always at each other’s throats… Only to turn around and have each other’s backs… like now. “Please.” He pleads again.
You take a long, deep, desperate breath and exhale sharply before turning around to strain out the water of your cooked pasta. “Fine…” You grumble under your breath. “But you owe me, big time!” You add.
“YES!” He shouts excitedly and shakes his fists in the air. “Thank you, thank you…” Alejandro says thankfully and wraps his arms around you in a bear hug which, definitely, makes you hear some bones of yours cracking.
“But!” You add, interrupting his celebration, which causes him to let go of you. “It’s only this dinner thing! And after that… in a couple of months, you’ve gotta tell them we ‘broke up’!” You demand.
“No, absolutely. I’ve already got a plan for that and everything!” Alejandro nods earnestly. “Just trust me.” He adds.
-
“I still can’t believe this.” You grumble as throw yourself onto the leather couch, which creaks as you sit. You feel exhausted. Your feet hurt, your cheeks are sore from smiling so much, you’re sweaty, your make-up is a bit messy, and you drank a bit more tequila than you should.
Alejandro sits on the leather couch beside you, rubbing his forehead and eyes with one hand while the other clutches a lowball glass of tequila. “You’ve said that 12 times now.” He grumbles.
You turn to look at him, your brow set low and your lips twisted into a pursed scowl. “And I’ll keep saying it!” You exclaim. “Because I can’t. believe. this.” You add.
Alejandro looks up at you before shooting the tequila shot in his chilled glass. “You’re the one that let our mamás talk you into this.” He retorts.
“Shut up.” You grumble defensively as you shuffle over, the gown rustling as you slide closer to him. He fills the glass with another double shot of Don Julio, and this time hands it over to you, which you take, gladly.
For the last 3 months since that dinner party at Alejandro’s parents’ house, you’ve dreaded this moment… The wedding itself, sure, but the moments after, the days after… When you’ve been freshly married and have to move in together and have all those changes to your routine…
But, right now, the dread is mostly gone. You could probably blame it on the tequila and the culmination of the stress, but right now, it almost feels… relieving to be here, in this hotel room, with your best friend/husband.
“That suit makes it look like you’re going to meet the President.” You grumble after taking a sip of your drink, your eyes set on his formal dress uniform. It’s your first time seeing him in his dress blues… He looks nice.
The suit itself is a dark teal blue-adjacent color, and he has a ridiculous amount of medals over his left breast, which you almost mocked him for, before biting your tongue, knowing they’re important to him.
The green beret with the Fuerzas Especiales insignia, which he wore for the better part of the day, sits on his lap. His suit jacket is unbuttoned and so are the top buttons of his white button-up, revealing his white undershirt and the gold crucifix necklace he always wears.
“And you look like you’re celebrating your quinceñera. Why would you pick such a poofy dress?” He retorts with a raised brow while leaning back on the couch and crossing his ankle over his knee. His eyes are glued to the ball gown wedding dress you’re wearing.
“I was already being forced to marry you, I was going to enjoy what little I could. I wanted to feel like a princess.” You reply and shoot him an annoyed look. Alejandro’s arm slowly slips onto the back of the couch, resting it there, behind you.
“Excuses.” He says dismissively and smirks playfully at you. “You wanted a dress that big so you’d have a built-in way of distancing yourself from me, so I didn’t have to kiss you or dance with you.” He quips and nudges you with his elbow.
You nudge him back, the two of you bickering like little kids. “Shut up!” You complain, which makes him laugh, and so do you laugh with him. “God, we had to kiss in front of everyone…” You grumble as you knock back the rest of the tequila shot.
“You say that as if I’m some sort of disgusting monster.” He retorts, causing your tongue to click in an annoyed, dismissive way. “C’mon… You didn’t hate it all that much.” He replies.
“Pelo amor de Dios [for the love of God], shut your mouth!” You demand defensively, your whole face warming up as you remember the cheers that came upon your kiss during the ceremony… and all throughout the reception to really ‘sell’ that you two are in love. “It was weird…”
Alejandro chuckles. “Not as weird as moving in together after tonight, eh?” He quips, which causes you to groan audibly. “Hey, think about it this way… Killed two birds with one stone…” He says as he scoots closer and looks you in the eyes.
“My parents stopped pestering me about getting married, your parents stopped pestering you too…” He reminds you. “Plus, now you don't have to pay rent, and we get tax benefits and better healthcare through the Army.” He adds.
“You and your stupid benefits.” You retort. “You know, we’re only in this mess because of you.” You complain and nudge him with your elbow as you look up at him.
“I know…” Alejandro grumbles and winces away from your sharp elbow to his ribs. “You’ve made a point to remind me of this every waking moment of every day since we tried to ‘break up’ and you let my mamá talk you into ‘staying with me’.” He adds and laughs a little.
Your face contorts into a grimace and you groan loudly yet again. “Your mamá has always been very demanding and scary, okay?” You retort.
“So you understand why I lied in the first place, huh?” He adds, causing you to nudge him and smack him upside the head.
“Shut up, Ale…” You retort while he chuckles a bit, rubbing the back of his head with his hand. “The woman basically begged me to stay with you because, in her eyes, if your best friend of 10 years can’t keep you tied down, then you really are a disgrace to the Vargas family.” You tell him. “What was I supposed to do?”
Instead of groaning, he simply smiles broadly and shakes his head. “Well, mi querida esposa [my dear wife], it’s over and done with. We’re married… and she’s thrilled.” He remarks and chuckles.
For some reason, you find yourself getting a bit flustered, your face flushing a bit warmer. Something about the way he called you his wife caused your heart to race… You never gave much thought to the idea of marriage… But now that you think about it… Being called someone’s wife is strangely nice. And… being Ale’s wife? It’s even nicer.
“Don’t remind me…” You remark in an attempt to sound disdainful, but it only ends up sounding soft and gentle. “Next thing we know, she’ll be pestering us into having grandchildren… My mamá too.” You say before groaning once more.
Alejandro’s face winces a little at the idea, but then, he breaks into a grin again, seeming playful and interested. “Groan all you want… But I’m sure you’d like the process of making them.” He quips and wags his eyebrows mischievously, earning another smack upside the head from you.
“I hate you…” You tell him playfully and shake his head, annoyed and amused at him… as usual.
“No, you don’t.” Your husband says and slowly leans closer. “You love me.” He adds playfully.
“No, I’m pretty sure I hate you.” You retort as you hold your ground, remaining in the same position.
“Hm… no. You love me.” Alejandro insists and leans closer.
Your eyes sparkle a bit. “No, I don’t.” You reply while your eyes narrow at him in a mock annoyed way.
Alejandro licks his lips and slowly rubs his nose against yours. “Yes, you do. You love me… Just like you loved kissing me after the ceremony.” He quips with that shit-eating grin of his.
Something in the air makes you feel even more flustered and you look away once more. Licking your lips too, you gulp down a breath in your throat. “Maybe...” You end up admitting.
Alejandro’s smirk grows bigger. “It’s okay.” He assures you with a nod. “I didn’t mind kissing you either.” He admits, which makes your eyes widen a bit in surprise and you look back up at him.
Alejandro’s lips then brush against yours… And he presses them together into a soft, gentle kiss that, this time, doesn’t feel like a performance. It’s not a rushed little peck done only for his family, and yours, and the guests at your wedding. It’s slow and sweet, just for the two of you in this hotel room…
After a moment, Alejandro pulls away and locks eyes with you, his brown eyes softened and almost too calm… You know he’s not drunk and neither are you… And tomorrow morning, any attempts to blame this kiss on tequila are simply not going to be truthful.
You wanted to kiss each other and you did. And, in fact, you want to kiss him more.
You press your lips against his again, your hand raising to wrap around the back of his head, your fingers slipping into his black hair, tugging the strands away from their slicked-back style. His hands grab onto your waist around the bustle of your wedding dress as you both surrender to the kiss.
The moment your lips pull apart again, he leans against your ear and you hear it. “We’re going to be alright...” He murmurs reassuringly.
You take another deep breath, allowing yourself to inhale the scent of his cologne and sweat in his body, the alcohol in his breath, and the laundry detergent in his dress blues… It’s a comforting scent. He comforts you. So you nod in agreement and Alejandro gently kisses you one more time.
Of all people to be stuck in a sham of a marriage for both of your families’ sake… it being the man you’ve maybe harbored a crush on for a decade is not the worst of options…
End note: Although “flaca” means “skinny girl”, it has nothing to do with the reader’s actual size, most of the time. It's just a term of endearment.

Alejandro x F!Reader
“You’re in for a long night”
Tumblr media
Wrote for the #amoraalejandro challenge. First time actually doing something like this! Challenge by @glitterypirateduck
Warnings: Some NSFW towards the end, anxiety, body image issues. insecurity, bullying, hyperfemininity, trad wife ideation
Another after successful mission the Los Vaquero gathered at the base. Bottles and beers in every hand. You sat quietly at the table while your friend who was quite the people person gathered a crowd around her while she shared stories.
Things had been odd between your best friend and you. She was on the same Los vaquero task team as you. She started getting snippy and distant towards you. Criticizing your appearance, how you spoke. It never seemed to end. Your best friend you met on the school playground started feeling like a stranger. And here she was infront of a group of soldiers telling one of your most guarded secrets. You never thought your friendship would end like this.
“I mean look at her she can’t even get a boyfriend because she’s so anxious and awkward” she said turning and laughing at you. All the soldiers joined in the laughter. It was horrifying.
Your heartbeat was starting to drown out the laughter and voices. Your throat felt like it was closing in. Tears started pricking your eyes as you scanned the room looking for the exit. And the one man you didn’t want to hear the things she said stood shocked behind you. Alejandro. You both made eye contact but you quickly ripped your eyes away and speeded out the door.
You could hear Alejandro call after you but every fiber of your being was telling you to run. Run from her, run from them, run from the anxiety of not being good enough for someone, run from him.
Unsure of how long you’d been walking your subconscious led you to a place you considered peaceful. You found yourself at the old fountain in the town square. A marvelous sculpture of a man on this knees clinging to a beautiful woman. Her hand lying on his cheek. You never understood why people appreciate art so much until the day you seen it.
To be loved by a man was something you always desired. But for a mans love to no longer be just love, but pure devotion. For another soul to long for yours. That was more beautiful than all the roses in the world. But it’s something you know isn’t in the books for you.
You didn’t have the traditional beauty. No long blonde hair, no toned supermodel legs, breasts that you didn’t think complimented your figure. You had a unique style that few would appreciate without judgment.
You tried many times to gain the attention of men you admired but you never seemed to be what they wanted. Until one day your trusted captain told you the hardest truth you’d ever hear.
“The men you had even been interested in seen you as one of them, a man. You are your mother’s least favorite daughter and your father’s strongest son. You’re a kind person with a heart of gold and deserve the world, but most men are to ignorant to past the job. Weak minded men can’t handle a strong woman such as yourself. But don’t give up little one, there’s a man that will appreciate all these things about you. He just hasn’t found you yet.”
It was true. Nobody ever wanted to see the woman that laid behind the bulletproof vest and gun. Femininity wasn’t going to win wars so through the years the girl in sundresses and lipstick slowly disappeared much to your dismay. You couldn’t shake the feeling of looking at a stranger in the mirror. The woman who looked back at you was someone else, a woman who lost herself trying to prove she was enough.
You sat on the edge of the fountain looking at all the coins lying at the bottom of the water gracefully reflecting the light from the full moon. The few wind chimes hung around the square gently chimed while the peaceful water flowed at the fountain. It was the most peace you’d had to yourself in the years since joining Los Vaqueros.
After a while the anxiety subsided and the tears had dried. But the familiar feeling of emptiness remained. And the new feeling of betrayal of someone who you considered family. It stung knowing how easy it was for her to turn your secrets into late night entertainment for others. And in front of a man you deeply admired and had feelings for.
That brief moment your eyes locked before you ran out felt like forever. He looked shocked, disgusted even. You could only imagine what his opinion of you was like now.
You never talked to your friend about Alejandro, she would have told you he was a pipe dream. Someone like yourself could never charm a man like him. He always had women swooning over him. Who wouldn’t go after a tall, dark, handsome, funny man. Oly enough what attracted you the most about him was his ability a dominant leader who seen his men not as soldiers but as family. Rough callous hands that you’d dream about holding you tight.
You spent many late nights talking with him about everything under sun. He didn’t just listen, but he remembered things about you. How you make your coffee, your favorite flowers. But you know you’ll never belong to him.
“You didn’t deserve that” Alejandro’s voice pulling you out of your thoughts.
“Alejandro… what are you doing here”
“Well someone important to me was being embarrassed by a friend, had to go looking for her because she wasn’t in her normal hiding spots so I got worried. I don’t like seeing her upset. Looks like I found her though.”
“You really didn’t have to come after me, you should be back there celebrating with the others.”
“Not when I know your hurting mi ángel”
“Can’t say anything she said was a lie though. I trusted her with all of my secrets, even though I’m done with our friendship I’ll still never tell hers.”
“You truly are a beautiful soul amor”
“What do you mean?”
“Most people would be quick for revenge. Even after she clearly hurt you, you chose to keep her secrets. Because you know what it’s like to hurt.” He sat down next to you. You felt small next to him, and your senses were filled with the sent of his cologne. It was comforting though, but you knew you couldn’t get close to him. Don’t let what could be break your heart.
“It’s a weird feeling though, when I lost my family to the cartel I only had her. Never thought my only friend, my family, would do that to me.” A deep sigh left your chest as you stared down at your hands.
Unknowingly to you Alejandro was looking down at you with eyes that would make a woman weak. He hated that everyone isolated you. How could they? And how dare that bitch for making you cry. Few things on this earth could make his heart break, the way seeing you upset made him feel almost helpless.
“She doesn’t look at you like a friend. Whoever she was to you before, I don’t think that girl is there anymore. Behind your back she’s jealous of you. I can’t count the amount of times I’ve had her captain reprimand her for her behavior.”
“Really?” Had he really been seeing how your friendship had changed?
“Si, last month Rudy caught her using your pin to unlock the ammunition room. Last week she put bleach in the washer thinking it was your clothes, they were mine though. She tried telling me you had been selling secrets, of course I didn’t believe her. There’s something about you that she can’t become herself, so she’s been trying her hardest to keep you down.”
“I don’t see how she could be jealous of me. I mean she’s everything that I can’t seem to be”
“What you mean” you look up at him almost confused. His eyes look lost in your words, like there’s something about you that you can’t see.
“She’s attractive, always has guys falling at her feet. Confidence like no other. And everyone loves her. But me… I put on this uniform and I’m unrecognizable to myself. I’m not attractive. I can’t talk to a man to save my life, and I’m not confident enough to do anything about it.“
“You’re talking to me, no?” He playfully leaned against you, a stubble nudge.
“Oh Alejandro” you giggle looking up at him. He was smiling down at you making you blush and look back down at your hands.
“You know… the first time I saw you… you had on a long sundress that looked beautiful against your skin. Your hair was perfectly done and your lips a shade of pink that made your eyes shine. You were helping an old lady carry her groceries home because her cart broke. I so badly wanted to introduce myself to you. The most beautiful woman I’d ever seen. But we were tailing a possible suspect and I couldn’t leave my men.”
“Ale-“
“Since that day I regretted not introducing myself. Then a month or so later Rudy introduces you as our newest recruit. So shy and sweet. Still as beautiful as the first time I seen you. And every day since you find new ways to make me love you. You’re so strong and skillful, most men train a lifetime to be as good as you. You are always the first to check on someone and the last one to leave. Are you a typical soldier? No. But you are every man’s dream.”
Your cheeks felt burning hot despite the dropping temperature. Suddenly every detail of your appearance felt overwhelming and wrong. There was no way the man that you’ve been secretly in love with is speaking about you like this. Maybe this was all a dream. A lovely but impossible dream.
“I don’t think I’m any man’s dream. Everyone sees me as if I’m a man. I can’t even count the times I’ve been rejected. All men ever see is the girl with the gun. Not the girl that would rather be in a dress and tending to flowers in a garden, a house with a porch swing, cooking dinners and chasing after a kid.”
Alejandro stands up and offers you a hand. You put your delicate hand in his and are standing face to face with him. His eyes shined with a look that nobody had ever looked at you with before. What is admiration? Love? Attraction? Pity?
“I think there’s someone that wants you to have all of that. The garden, the kids, the house. But he’s just been too afraid of saying something.” His hands held your small hands in his. Bringing them up for a kiss.
“Oh Alejandro don’t give a hopeless romantic like me hope like that” you looked up at him with a sparkle in your eyes that he always tried to bring out.
“I can give you everything you’ll ever desire. Princesa, I have loved you from the moment i first seen you. I’m sorry it’s took me this long to tell you.” His tone was serious but soft. Everything he wanted was in front of him it was now or never.
“You… love me?” Your voice could barely escape past your lips. He had stolen the breath out from your chest.
“Si” if Alejandro could see his own face he’d smack himself for looking like such a smiling dork.
“But what if I’m not-“
“Do I need to prove my love, my devotion to you mi amor? I will do anything you ask me to.”
There’s that word. Devotion. For a man to say he loves you is almost as easy as lying. But for a man to admit devotion is different. A willingness to walk eternity on thorns barefoot, to burn at the stake, to carve your name into his chest. Devotion.
Alejandro could see the see the hesitation in your eyes. He didn’t want you to have to question his intentions, or yourself. When you looked back up at him there was a glimmer of hope and passion in your eyes, love.
“What if I do this”
His lips kissed yours softly as if asking if it was okay. You leaned into the kiss feeling all your worries melt away. Without realizing your hand made its way to his neck gently. A quiet mix between a moan and grunt rumbled from his chest. His arm wrapped around your waist pulling your bodies flush against each other. His other hand cradling the nape of your neck. Once you both had you fill you separate lips but still cling together in each others warm embrace.
“te amo princesa” his voice deep in desire said to you. His thumb caressing your cheek.
“Te amo Alejandro” your heart was beating so fast your words almost stuttered.
“How does staying the night with me sound? I mean, I know everyone back on the base is probably plastered. And I promise I can make a good breakfast. And I’m sure you’ll enjoy the view.”
“Oh trust me, I’ll enjoy the view wherever we’re at.” Your voice was more seductive than you realized when you took a good look at him up and down.
Alejandro was surprised by your reply, not expecting you be so forward considering your usual shy demeanor. But it made him blush bright red and made his skin hot. And your voice like silk wrapped around his mind. His self control was surely being tested. Every fiber of his being wanted to rip your clothes off and claim you as his. To leave love bites along your neck, chest, and thighs. To hear you cry out his name like a prayer as you come undone over and over for him before he even thinks about his own release. And for any man that glances at you to know you’re worshiped and adored. He finally had you, pure perfection. But he didn’t want to rush and scare you away by trying to immediately bed you.
“princesa you have no clue what your words can do to a man.”
“What I was just stating the obvious Alejandro. And to actually answer your question going to your place sounds great.”
After a short walk to his vehicle you arrived at a home just on the outskirts of town overlooking the lights of the city. Alejandro wasn’t wrong about the view, it was beautiful and peaceful. But your mind kept racing back to the feeling of his hand resting on your thigh the ride home. His cologne, the way his shirt collar showed just enough of his chest. You could feel your panties clinging to the slickness of your heat. By the time you both made it through the front door desire took control of both of your bodies.
The Colonel picked you up by the waist, bringing you up against his muscular chest while your legs wrapped wound his hips. “My love” he whispered into your ear as his hands run up your sides, bringing you closer to him. His lips brushing and sucking against your neck peppering toe curling kisses down to your collar bone. His hands made quick work of removing your shirt but leaving on your lace bra.
You couldn’t control the soft moans escaping your lips. Being kissed had never felt so… euphoric.
Alejandro’s hands trail down your back, resting on your hips. “Oh, you like that…” he whispers, his voice deep and husky. He lips showed much needed attention to the other side of your neck, his hands back up, until they rested on your breasts giving them a gentle squeeze.
“You’re such a tease Ale” you gasped out as his sucked down on the spot your back arched at when he passed over moments ago. Showing it extra attention since you liked it so much.
“Please Alejandro”
Alejandro laughs. “Please what? Your words are so sweet... it makes me want hear you beg” He stands tall again looking down at you. “Use your words princesa”
“You know what I want” your lips came up to kiss him but he pulls back just enough that they just barely brush against each other. His large hands undoing your belt and pants pulling them off you.
“That’s still not what I need to hear princesa” You could see the amount of restraint and control he had over himself even though deep down he was losing his mind over the sight of you in just your matching bra and panties.
“Make me yours Alejandro, make all of me yours” you fingers locked into his belt loops pulling his hips in closer into your spread legs.
“As you wish. But I’m not rushing this amor, I’ve waited too long to get to worship you and I’m going to take my time doing so” his voice was raspy with lust. He grabs the back of your head with his hands, running his fingers through your hair. It sends shivers all through you and you pull back slightly, catching your breath, “you looks so perfect in my hands” Alejandro chuckles warmly.
“Take me to bed Ale and fuck me… please”
“Oh mi vida,” Alejandro walks into a bedroom carrying you to a king size bed with silk sheets in the middle. The window casting the moonlight into the room wasn’t enough for him to be able to see every inch of your perfect body. He carries you over to the bed setting you down. He turned over and switched on the bedside lamp. Layed out perfectly on his bed in just your lace lingerie softly caressed by the soft light. The most precious woman he’d ever met was his now, and he is yours. “You’re so beautiful mi amor” his voice dripped desire while his eyes reflected passion and love.
He took off his button up shirt throwing it on the ground. You laid up at pillows propped up on your elbows, watching him at the foot of the bed. You bit your lip finally getting to see his strong arms and shoulders with his bare chest.
“See something you like” his voice ripped you out of your gaze.
“Something I like, something I want” you flirted back. He got onto the bed staying in between your legs. His lips started kissing your inner calf tickling the skin as he brought your leg up to rest on his shoulder. Kissing by your knee he made way up to your thighs leaving kisses and love bites.
He give your thighs one last kiss before he laid down on his stomach with one of your legs still over his shoulder. Your heart beating out of your chest seeing him like this, so close to the most intimate part of you. His lips just close enough to brush over your pantie cover cunt.
“You’re in for a long night mi amor”

La Media Naranja
Tumblr media
This is a challenge fulfillment for the wonderful and singular @glitterypirateduck, the best COD curator on the internet! Ducks, I hope you enjoy my very first Alejandro fic.
Prompt: Do you trust me?
TW: female reader, vaginal sex, power dynamics, bad Spanish (I tried!)
Tumblr media
You had been walking for the better part of the morning. The trees rustled as a stiff wind sailed over el Cerro el Sapo, the cold air tickling the branches of the mountain’s forest, making them rattle and shake. The swaying limbs reminded you of a million dancers, moving as one, waving to and fro, their boughs reaching for the cloudless, pale firmament.
It was nice to be exploring again. You were on a short leave with your team in Monterrey, and you had been convinced — perhaps strong-armed might be a better term — to go on a hike through Las Grutás de Garcia, an extensive cave system famous for its rock formations. The caves were only a few klicks away from the large car park, but hiking in the late winter had been interesting. There were no tourists, given that it was February, and you were mostly alone. Well, except for your guide.
When he had broken you away from the pack, he had done so on purpose. At the base of the mountain, before you had climbed so high, Alejandro had whistled loudly at the other men and hollered up the hill,
“¡Oye! Vamos a ver la octava maravilla.” Hey! We’re going to see the 8th Wonder.
“¿Con la novata?” With the newbie? Parra asked, a hint of something prying in his voice.
“¿Por qué no, cabrón?” Why not, asshole? Alejandro smiled so that Rudy could see his teeth, and although it wasn’t meant to sting, it certainly was a warning.
Parra didn’t respond to his colonel, but he made a face that seemed to communicate what it needed to. You weren’t sure what he meant, but you could make a guess.
Alejandro had been playing a dangerous game with you. You’d been sneaking around together behind your teammates’ backs, thinking you were being clever, but you weren’t. It was reckless, but you didn’t care. Spending time with him was like breathing; you needed it, and you needed it all the time.
Now, here you were, approaching the cave system, at least a few kilometers from another living soul. There were parts of the cave system that would be populated no matter what time of year it was, but your Alé knew the pathways the mountains kept hidden.
“¿Estás bien, Cebollita?”  You okay, little onion? He asked you, helping you up a particularly tricky rock face.
You hated your callsign. When you were a rookie, you had been tasked with locating the drug cache of a well-known cartel leader who had just been apprehended. The entire compound you searched was empty, and there was only one storage room left that you hadn’t searched. You called your team over and opened the hold together. Except it wasn’t bags of cocaine behind the door; it was onions. Piles and piles of them. The stench was unbearable. You could still hear them laughing at you for making your “big discovery”. You’d been Cebbi, Cebolla, or Cellboita ever since.
“Don’t call me that. I told you —”
Alé, in the middle of helping you up the cliffside, stopped his assistance, leaving you dangling at his mercy. He cut his eyes down at you,
“Naranja, then?”
You stayed silent, and after he was sure his imaginary daggers had sunk into your heart, he pulled you the rest of the way up.
You sighed,
“I know what you think.”
“Oh,” spite dripped from his mouth, “¿Y qué es eso?” And what’s that?
You stopped hiking and put your hands on your hips, staring him down like a misbehaving child. He hung back, matching your combative stance.
"Alé, we can’t tell them. They’ll treat you differently. And me…”
You were in his arms before you knew what was happening. Your colonel was quick, striking like a snake, and he held you tightly to his sweaty chest, barely allowing your thin ribs room to breathe. His mouth was so close to yours, you could smell his breath: coffee and menthols.
“They already know. They laugh at us behind our backs because we are so obvious with this,” he lifted your chin and pressed your mouth to his.
You could feel his tongue slipping along the edge of your lip, teasing you and letting you taste his wet flesh. Alejandro’s kisses were so consuming. The rest of the world melted away and all that was left was the feeling of his jaw pressing yours open, forcing you to swallow his tongue.
Then, he left you, half-drunk with lust and uncertain about everything. But, that was what you liked about him. He was a carousel, spinning you round and round and round, letting you wrap your hands around his golden pillars, trying to find an escape and ending up trapped in his wild menagerie once more.
He marched on ahead, and you followed him into the mouth of an immense cave. It wasn’t until you were in the belly of the mountain that you realized how large the cavern was. The walls arched up in a ragged dome, dripping wet from condensation and water leaching from the porous sediment. It was cool, almost cold, and the darkness was dead silent. You walked around the edge, and a primal fear gripped you. What lurked there in the darkness? Something your ancestors had feared, perhaps? It was funny how your body knew when to be afraid. What a gift.
What else were you afraid of? Alejandro wanted to go public with your relationship, but sleeping with your commanding officer — and a colonel at that! — was the chisme to end all chisme. You’d never live it down. Your mother’s voice was in your head, screeching warnings about men and their power. You frowned thinking about how disappointed she would be in you, as if you had committed some sin.
“What is it, naranja? Las Grutás son maravillosas, ¿verdad?” The caves are wonderful, right? He smiled, peering up at the stalagmites jutting down from the ceiling, admiring nature’s skill.
“They are. I’m just thinking about you and me. What are we going to do, amor?”
He stood in front of you, his tanned face shadowed by the blackness of the cave, and the light that glinted on the little pools by the entrance dancing across his skin like tattoos that had come to life, moving and undulating in indecipherable patterns, making you dizzy.
He shook his head,
“I will do what you tell me to do. I may be your commander,” he brushed your hair behind your ear, “But, you are mine. If you don’t want to tell them, entonces me quedaré en silencio,” Then, I will be silent. He sighed, “Do you trust me?”
You knew he was telling the truth, and when you kissed him, it was a reward for his honesty.
You didn’t know what to do. He called you naranja, the other half of his orange, his missing piece. You believed him. You fit into each other like a key into its lock, and you knew that this was right. He loved you, and you loved him. But, your work would be unbearable. You thought about all of the looks and comments you’d get from the men, and it hurt you to your core.
Your commander felt your thoughts through your kiss, weakening against his mouth. He pulled away, telling you with his eyes that he would take care of everything. No preocupes, naranja. Soy yo.
Behind you, there was a flat rock, and you figured that was as clean a space as you were going to get. You sat down on it with him and let him tear away your shirt, button by button, watching your reactions the whole time. The cool air of the cave rushed across your chest, raising tiny bumps along your flesh. He saw them, and he pet them with the back of his hand so gently as if trying to make them disappear. Then, he pressed down into your bra cup and squeezed your breasts. Soft and rough, calm and wild. He was never just one way. There was always a mixture of angel and devil within him.
Alejandro bent down to take a nipple into his mouth. He nipped at your skin, licking it and sinking his teeth into you just enough to hurt but not enough to harm, covering you in his little love bites. You gasped, cupping his cheeks in your hands, feeling how his jaw worked against you, suckling at your tits and making you warm with his mouth.
“Alé…” You called to him with a whisper.
As if it was a demand, he stripped his shirt over his head, pulling it from his back. Your hands went to his broad chest, well-muscled and sinewy from years of climbing and fighting and riding through the mountains of northern México. You felt the hair that dusted his skin along his breastbone, and you ghosted your fingertips over his nipples, watching his breathing become labored as you did so.
He pulled you into his lap with an impatient hunger. Kissing your neck, his hands went to the round curve of your ass, squeezing and kneading it for his pleasure. You could feel his thumbs digging into the crease of your hips, pressing on your bones and sending electric, sparking signals to your core. You were already soaked for him, and your body recognized his desire like a dog knows the sound of its leash, ready to be walked, to be led on an adventure.
You felt his cock prod against your ass through his jeans. He was painfully hard, and you worked to free him. Alejandro, rabid as he was, pulled your pants down by your waistband and over the swell of your ass, jerking them down to your thighs just enough so that he had access to your warm hole. His hands were there in a moment, fumbling until he found you, and then, masterful.
His fingers dipped into you like an ink into a well, wetting himself to the knuckle. You didn’t need much coaxing. You were already soft for him, ready to take him inside of you, eager to coat him with your silkiness.
“Mi naranjita… Estás tan lista.” My little orange. You are so ready. He panted, his eyes hooded and dark, staring at you like you had betrayed him with your lust.
“Alé,” you kissed him, moving your loose lips across his mouth, “Tu verga, porfa… lo quiero.” Your cock, please. I want it.
With a little difficulty because of your position, he fisted himself, shaking his shaft free from his underwear. You put your hand between your legs from behind and helped guide him in gently, letting his drooling head rub your folds like a thumb in the center of a rose, rubbing back and forth over the dewy petals.
He was sighing in short, pained bursts as he pressed his way through you, and he looked as if he couldn’t believe what he was experiencing. His eyes widened, looking up into the ceiling of the cave with all of its natural splendor and otherworldly design, gazing up as if he would find Heaven, its gates wide open, giving him some sort of a justification for how his soul was being ripped from his chest.
Then, on purpose, you sank your weight into him, spearing yourself onto his cock, filling up your emptiness.
You gasped together.
“Mi vida,” he said, kissing you through his words.
You pressed your cheek against his cheek as you began to ride him, feeling him lift you up and press you down onto his length. The wet slapping sounds of skin on skin rattled through the cave, echoing on all the walls, filling up your senses.
“Más, más, más, papi.” More, more, more, daddy. You whined, whimpering in his ear.
Frustrated that he wasn’t in total control, Alé removed you from himself and laid your back on the flat rock. He cradled your head so you wouldn’t be hurt, and then he set himself to removing your shoes, his cock gleaming in the low light of the cave. Shucking off your pants, he set himself on the ledge and bent over your pussy, sucking your warm wet center with his lips and tongue, tasting himself there. You keened, moaning with ecstasy across the hollow emptiness.
When he was sated, your lover climbed over you and fit himself inside of you once more. The feeling of him pushing against your shivering muscles was addictive. That first kiss of his head on your hole was replaying itself in your mind as he sank inch after inch into you, growing thicker as he joined you in your body.
He was out of his mind now that he had you where he wanted you. He rutted into you, fervent and greedy, taking you to the edge and letting you ride there, almost at the breach of that static, spitting fuse, lighting you on fire.
“Let me come, Alé. Make me…” Just a little more and you’d get your wish.
“¿Por qué? Eres mío? Mi novia.” Why? Are you mine? My girl. It was almost a plea coming from your colonel. He was testing you, but you were done playing around.
“Dámelo.” Give it to me. You demanded, wrapping your hands around his neck and letting your nails dig themselves cruelly into his nape. It was enough to make him fuck you harder, and his tone turned vicious.
“Yo les diré. Sobre nosotros. Se los diré a todos.” I’ll tell them. About us. I’ll tell them all. He threatened darkly, letting his voice rumble through his teeth as he snarled at you, his hot breath scalding your neck before he sank his mouth down to kiss it.
He moved to your breasts, still exposed in your half-opened shirt, bouncing as he fucked you. His kisses were burning your spent nerves like a brand, and he took one of your nipples into his mouth and began to suckle from it deeply, moaning with satisfaction.
“Tell them,” you commanded quietly, ordering your colonel to make his dream come true.
That was the spark. He set you ablaze, and you tumbled over into your bliss, washed in wave after wave of a foaming, frothy orgasm. It bubbled over you, bursting up your legs and down your arms like uncorked champagne, tightening like a knot in your belly before slipping free inside of you.
You cried out to him, still clutching his throat in your hands. You weren’t aiming to choke him, but you had to hold on. Your body needed you to hold onto him, and Alejandro knew that need so well. He leaned into your grip, making himself vulnerable to you.
His eyes were staring right through you, watching you fall apart underneath him, making you scream as you clenched around him. Then, he shut his lids, wrenching them closed, furrowing his brow and he began to grunt louder and louder. In this moment, you felt like you had his life in your hands, almost like he had given it to you.
You told him, through a hoarse breath,
“Te amo, Alé.” I love you, Alé.
His eyes shot open at your admission, and he crashed through his own orgasm, spilling himself in your body. He coughed out a rumbling growl and a cascade of rhythmic moans, repetitive and satisfying.
As he came down from his high, he buried his head in your neck, rolling his forehead over you, nuzzling your throat, murmuring,
“Mi media naranja… mi naranjita.”
You felt his come slipping out of you as you sat up with him, feeling it pool between your legs. He held you to him, all messy and undone, breathing hard. He looked out through the archway window of the cave, and you followed his gaze. He was framed in the light of the sky’s glowing sun, pitch black on one cheek like a cut silhouette, darkened by the deep cave’s shadow, while his bronze cheek gleamed on the other side.
You let him kiss you again, to taste your own sweetness, and you held his hand. It fit into yours as if it was made for it.

The Name of the Wind 3
Find the series masterlist
I know this is a bit late BUT this is still for @glitterypirateduck challenge. This is not the last chapter of this story, but it is the last chapter that will be using prompts from the challenge. This chapter used "Do you trust me?"
Warnings: Swearing, wooing, someone is a little oblivious, flying, dragons. Oh, and two new/familiar characters show up.
Word count: 1.8k
Tumblr media
Weeks passed. You learned your way around and met the other people who lived there. Not just the riders, but the kitchen staff too. You learned how everything worked, when to eat, where to wash up. Everything.
It was different from how your life had been before, but different didn't mean bad. Not in this case.
You never heard another word about your would-be husband. And you certainly didn't ask - that would be inviting trouble.
The hardest thing to adapt to was the most integral part of your role here.
The dragons.
Caba was very calm every time you interacted with him… which was quite a bit in the beginning, as Alejandro used him to demonstrate how the harnesses went on and where they wore the most. Caba didn't mind being used as a show model, remaining calm around you.
Unfortunately, that could not be said of every dragon.
The youngest dragon in the garrison, a blue female, actually knocked you off your feet when you met her. Her rider was apologetic, helping you back to your feet. The freshly-chastened dragon drooped like a misbehaving pup while Caba oversaw the fitting process for her harness.
You did not get knocked over a second time. But it did take multiple washes to get all the mud off you later.
After that little incident, Caba or Alejandro was around for every new dragon you met. You weren't sure if you were flattered, or disgruntled.
Perhaps the most interesting thing to you was how self-contained the garrison was. Supplies came from the capital regularly, but the garrison otherwise seemed to be run by Alejandro. He oversaw everything, from training to rotations to travel. He didn't seem to need to ask anyone above him for anything, which seemed both curious and, if you were being honest, appealing.
An honest man, with a sense of humor, who treated everyone well and didn't place himself above the others? And one who was also competent and ran his garrison well?
Honestly, you were surprised he didn't have a spouse already.
(He didn't. You knew because you'd caught some of the younger riders gossiping.)
You were, however, surprised when he approached you after breakfast one day. You didn't always sit at his table, only sometimes. Usually when he or Rodolfo flagged you down. This was the first time he had approached you, usually summoning you to his side instead.
“How much work do you have today?” He asked, walking next to you as you put your dirty dishes in the bins.
“Not a lot, nothing urgent,” you responded slowly. You had a custom order you were excited to work on, but that could wait another day. Especially if Alejandro needed you for something.
He flashed a grin at you, nearly making your knees wobble. “So you have time free.”
“I do,” you agreed, eyeing him. “Why?”
“Do you trust me?” He stopped in the hallway, turning fully to face you.
You nodded slowly, looking at him. “I do.”
“Meet me outside in twenty minutes. Wear something warmer.” He held your gaze, magnetic and unavoidable.
“Okay,” you agreed, soft and a little surprised. But you hadn't lied. You did trust him.
At least enough to trust that he wouldn't toss you out of the overlook, or anything like that.
It took very little time to grab a warm coat and gloves, since you weren't exactly sure what you were going to be doing. The walk outside was full of the typical bustle of the garrison - you passed riders going every which way, and as you passed near the kitchen, the chatter and chinking of washing reached your ears.
It was amazing to think about how quickly this had become home to you.
Alejandro stood outside next to Caba, waiting on you, dressed in his riding leathers. You allowed yourself only a moment or two to let your gaze wander over the well-fitted leathers before looking to the dragon instead.
To your surprise, he wore a modified version of his harness.
“We don't need the full harness,” Alejandro said, having correctly guessed your line of thinking from the surprise in your face and the line of your gaze. “Not for this.”
“And what is this?” You asked hesitantly, stopping in front of him.
Alejandro grinned, bright and pleased, with only a little humor. “You said you trust me.”
“I do,” you reiterated, only to squeak when Alejandro grabbed your hand and pulled you to Caba. “What–?”
But Alejandro offered no answer beyond stopping next to Caba, who had obligingly laid down to make his shoulder not entirely out of reach. Alejandro knelt and patted his thigh.
“You can reach the straps to help pull yourself up,” he offered, watching you. “It is easier if you have a boost to start.”
You stared at him for a moment before turning your gaze to the dragon. “What?” You squeaked.
Alejandro did his best not to laugh at you, lips clamped together even as his shoulders shook. “Up you go,” he encouraged, hints of laughter in his voice.
You thought about protesting, but, well. You did trust him. So you took a deep breath and used his proferred thigh as a step up. Your ascent up Caba's shoulder was not graceful, but you also didn't slide back down. You'd take that as a good thing. You felt very high up, sitting on his back as you were.
Alejandro climbed up after you, making it look easy. He sat behind you, his thighs bracketing yours. You swallowed, suddenly quite warm.
“Hold here,” Alejandro murmured, low and close to your ear, reaching past you to pull on a strap. You grabbed it tight, partially to hide the shaking in your fingers. “Don't worry. I won't let you fall.” One of his hands settled at your waist. You sucked in a sharp breath, partially disguised by the sudden movement under you as Caba got to his feet. You rocked with the movement, startled.
Caba didn't give you any time to adjust, though. He just started away from the garrison, using the open flat space to gain some speed. Massive leathery wings snapped out at his sides. You squeezed the strap tighter at the first sweep of those wings, feeling unsteady but for Alejandro's solid presence at your back.
One more downsweep and Caba launched into the air, the pressure pushing you back against Alejandro. He held firm, his grip on your waist reassuring.
Caba leveled out soon after, the pressure easing. Wind whipped in your face, cold but clear. You blinked rapidly as you adjusted, breathing in slowly.
Alejandro squeezed your waist gently, His head close to yours as he shouted to be heard over the wind. “Look now.”
You did, and gasped. From here you could just barely see the coast, blue stretching for miles and miles. The river valley below seemed very far away, though the river sparkled where it came down from the mountains and snaked across the land. You couldn't look down for long, though, before you started to feel dizzy.
But you didn't fear falling. Not with Alejandro pressed up close behind you as he was.
It didn't take long for your nose to go nearly numb, the cold wind seeping your warmth. No wonder the riders all wore leathers and fur up here. Your hands did go numb, fingers still clenched tight around the strap.
“See? Not so bad, hmm?” Alejandro sounded smug, his voice rumbling against your back and in your ear, even as his breath warmed your skin.
You just laughed, leaning back slightly, trusting him to keep you safe.
And he did.
You had no idea how long Caba flew the two of you. But he didn't go far into the valley before turning for the coast, making a big loop. From this height, you could see the town you'd left behind weeks ago, as well as a couple other garrisons, notable from the other dragons in the air. From this height, everything seemed small, even your lingering worries.
Eventually, he angled back towards the garrison, gliding down at a gentle angle. Alejandro's hand at your waist encouraged you to lean back further, your back pressed to his chest, until Caba landed. The big dragon chuffed and continued walking, wings setting against his back again.
You blinked, confused, but Alejandro just chuckled. “You're back early,” he called to someone up ahead, the hand on your waist tightening briefly.
“For once,” another man called back. You spotted a dark-haired man standing up ahead, another scruffier man by his side. Caba stopped a short distance from the two, and Alejandro swung one leg over to face them. He did not get down, however.
“Need a ride back to the capital, then?”
“S'pose so,” the scruffier man answered, gaze on you. “You offering?”
Alejandro chuckled. “I will arrange it,” he said, though you noted he didn't offer to do it himself. “Come inside, have something to eat.”
“Gonna introduce us?” The scruffier one asked, still peering up at you.
“If we see you at dinner.” Alejandro didn't offer anything else as Caba started walking again, leaving the two men behind to make his way back to the cavern entrance.
“Who were they?” You asked, undeniably curious now.
“Nobody of import.” Alejandro waited for Caba to lay down again before he slid down the dragon's side. “Here. I'll help.” He held his hands up to you, watching closely.
You eyed the distance down, biting your lip. He hadn't led you to harm yet. It did take a few moments to unclamp your hands, fingers aching from being locked in position for so long, but then you carefully swung a leg over and slid down. Alejandro caught you, making sure you didn't land too hard and holding you upright when your knees wobbled.
“Alright?” He asked quietly, giving you a quick once-over.
“Yeah.” You smiled up at him. “That was… incredible. Thank you.”
“I will take you as often as you wish.” His smile was smaller than usual but brighter, happier.
“You don't mind?” You couldn't help the note of hesitancy, of shyness.
“Not if it's you.” He leaned closer to you, until you were firmly bracketed between Caba at your back and Alejandro at your front.
Your breath caught in your throat. He was so close and so warm.
Caba rumbled, something you felt more than heard, vibrating against your back. You startled, turning your head to try to figure out what was going on.
Alejandro sighed and backed off. “Sit with me at dinner tonight,” he invited, gently taking hold of your hand, rubbing some of the ache from your fingers.
“Okay,” you agreed, a little dazed still.
He smiled again, that small but sincere smile you were quickly becoming attached to, and took a step back. Another, and he released your hand, and turned to go.
You stood there, needing Caba's silent support, for longer than you wanted to admit.

Two weeks. Ale had been gone for two weeks this time and you were growing restless. He promised that he wouldn’t be out of contact for long, that he’d check in because he knew how the silence affected you. But there hadn’t been a word from him or Rudy for that matter. Rudy always managed to step in when Alejandro was tied up to let you know he was safe and alive but even that small sliver of communication had remained quiet. Being up in the mountains also did not help with the sense of isolation and seemed to only press on your mind just how alone you were.
Alejandro had wanted a place that was out of the way. Far enough away from the violence and chaos that was the city he grew up in to keep you safe. Yet still close enough for him to keep an eye on and be available to help reign in when things grew out of hand. So that was how you found yourself in the modest home that was built on top of a small hill that overlooked the ocean on one side and the city far below on the other. The closest neighbor was a ten-minute walk and while she would bring by fresh eggs from their coup in exchange for some herbs you grew, or just come to talk over coffee every few days, you were completely alone in the house.
Another sigh you lean back on your heels and wipe the back of your hand across your forehead smearing dirt in a messy line. You had decided to start yet another garden, this time tiered down a small slope that faced the water, to grow some more flowers. Gardening had become a bit of an obsession for you, tending to the seedlings or small snips of shrubs until they were stable enough to put in the ground. The dining room had turned into a small nursery and some of the plants were more than past due to be planted.
Ale had told you to wait, that he’d dig it out and arrange everything for the latest design you had sketched out when he got back. But he wasn’t home and the plants were ready so that meant digging the trenches and lugging the stones yourself. The neighbor had offered to send her nephew to help but you had waved her off saying you could use the exercise. In truth, you knew you’d be too picky for the boy and you didn’t want to hurt his feelings when you went behind him to fix everything he did. So, with a sigh, you head to the garage to pick through the paving stones for the retaining wall.
Just as you are about to start tossing the stones into the wheelbarrow you hear the telltale sound of a motor approaching. A hint of apprehension slides down your spine as you peer toward the road, the vehicle not visible yet between the trees. Alejandro had warned you about what to do if someone unfamiliar showed up, about the danger of strangers in Las Almas. How you were to never let on you knew who he was, or even interact at all if you could avoid it. So, dropping the stone back down with a thud you rush over to hit the button to shut the garage door to avoid even being seen. There were no other houses this way so there was no reason for anyone to come this way unless the destination was your house.
The door shut in time as you stood in the garage and listened. The car was turning up the gravel driveway and barely slowing down and you edge back to the corner in the dark praying it was someone just lost. Or a door-to-door salesman that was really trying to fill their quota for the month. The door on the vehicle slams shut causing you to jump before you hear a set of footsteps approaching the front door in quick succession before jogging up the wooden steps. They pound on the front door once, twice, before a voice calls out, specifically for you. You recognize that voice.
Scrambling for the garage door button again, stumbling a bit in the dark, you hit it and wince at the mechanical whine of the metal door rising. The sun floods back into the garage and you dart out to stand in the driveway as Alejandro jogs down the steps himself to meet you halfway. The bags under his eyes tell you he is exhausted but the only thing you can read on his face now is alarm and panic.
“Ale?” You ask stunned as you take him in. His clothes are filthy, covered in dirt and grime, and a worrying patch of dark red that looks like dried blood near his shoulder. “What are you doing here? What happened?” You had gone two weeks without word and now he was suddenly here standing before you looking as if he were dead on his feet.
“Why haven’t you been answering your phone?” He asks as he crosses the few feet between you to pull you into a tight embrace. He doesn’t seem to care that you are a sweaty dirty mess, just as you don’t mind that it seems like he hadn’t showered in days. Just to feel him again after all these days worrying, wondering, and frankly terrified alone with your thoughts, was blissful.
“What do you mean? I’ve had the phone on me this whole time. I hadn’t heard from you in so long,” you stammer as he pulls back to cup your face in his hands. He’s staring at you as if you were the very air he breathed, relief sliding over his face. “Ale, what is going on?”
“I’ve been calling for the past three days corazón,” Alejandro answers after a moment, his eyes still roving over your face as if trying to convince himself that you were really there and everything was really fine. “Rodolfo tried as well with no answer. I thought something had happened,” he leans in and kisses your forehead, apparently not caring about the dirt smeared there and the sweat. “You can’t not answer my calls. I thought you were just mad at first because it had been so long…but then you still didn’t answer when Rudy,” he cuts off and tugs you tighter against him.
“No that can’t be right,” you manage as you cling to him, your mind racing. You had kept the wireless house phone on you wherever you went. Cell service was non-existent this far up in the mountains so a landline was the only option. It could be spotty sometimes, especially in the rainy season, but you had just talked to your mother a few days ago and it had been fine. You didn’t have many people that you called or called you so the phone not ringing in days wasn’t unusual. “I haven’t had a call from you,” you breathe out. “I thought something had happened to you, to Rudy,” you lean back and stare up at him as he turns a bit in your embrace to track the wires that ran from the house to the pole at the end of the drive to the road.
“Go inside,” Ale states after a moment and you can feel his body become tense under your touch. You know that voice, that tone and shift in his body. He senses something is wrong, some unperceived threat is lurking and despite the muggy heat, a chill washes over you.
“Ale, what is going on?” You ask a bit quietly as he gently extracts your arms from him and he reaches for his pistol at his side.
“I will be right in. Just go inside,” Alejandro says as he moves to walk to the end of the drive. His eyes are still tracking the wires that run from the utility pole and his gun is resting gently by his leg in his hand as he walks.
Not needing to be told again you walk inside but continue to watch him as he gets to the end of the drive and peers up the pole, then looks down the street. He isn’t out there for long before he jogs back up the drive and bounds into the house, slipping his pistol back in the holster though the safety was still flipped off.
“Someone’s cut the line,” he says quietly as he goes to the phone and picks it up to find a dead signal. “Has anyone been here?”
“What? No. I mean the neighbor and her nephew,” you answer a bit rapidly trying to go over everything that had happened in the past two weeks. There isn’t much, to be honest.
“Nephew?” Alejandro presses. “Who?” His eyes are looking back out at the street again as if waiting for an enemy to pop out from behind your butterfly garden and attack.
“I don’t remember his name, he offered to help me with the garden,” you start and nearly flinch at the look Alejandro cuts at you. He had warned you about strangers and this nephew was a stranger, even if he was related to the nice elderly lady down the road. “I told him no. I didn’t need it,” you respond quickly, “he never came inside. Just walked his aunt up for us to have some coffee together.”
The realization hits you as you babble on about what seems like an innocent exchange. He had come all this way to visit his aunt, just to walk her up the road and turn tail and leave. It seemed innocuous then but now you wonder if he had been casing out the area. Had been up to something and maybe even planned something sinister when he realized you were all alone up there. Or he was after Alejandro for that matter since you had mentioned your fiancé Ale was away on a business trip and the young man seemed interested in what he did for a living. The lie was architecture since Alejandro had designed and built the house you both lived in, but the guy just smirked and nodded as if he knew something else. Again, in the moment it seemed like nothing but looking back now it seemed obvious.
“We need to leave,” Alejandro states as he looks back out the window again.
You don’t move. You just stare at him frozen in place. Something like this had never happened before, for all the complaining you did about being so alone you had never felt unsafe in your house. Unless you counted the saucer sized spiders that snuck in from time to time.
“Do you trust me?” Alejandro asks as he gently takes your hand to which you nod fervently. “Then please go pack,” he continues as his other hand comes up to push away some loose hair from your face. “I’ll take you to a beach somewhere. Our own private little bungalow where you won’t even need a bathing suit to go swim,” he prods trying to get a smile on your face.
“But what about our home?” You ask, glancing to the dining room where all the pants are still sprawled out. “We can leave for a few days but they know where we are now,” fear coils in your stomach, and panic that you would have to leave this house. One that Alejandro had help construct and had torn apart from top to bottom to fit your every whim and desire when he moved you in with him.
“I’ll need to find this nephew,” Alejandro answers simply, “and have a conversation with him.” At the look on your face, he grins, “just a conversation, amor.”
You know from stories in the past that a conversation with Alejandro when his family was threatened usually ended up in bloodshed. Rudy had been witness to plenty and had even pulled Ale back when someone attempted to make a veiled threat against his sister and nieces. By the way Alejandro was staring out the window like a dog on the hunt you knew that this ‘nephew’ would be lucky to leave any sort of confrontation from Alejandro intact. And despite yourself, you find yourself grinning at the thought of how fierce he was to keep you and those he loved safe.
