Bolton Valley, VT 16FEB2024
A couple of skiers trudge up toward the Vista Quad amidst the very heavy snowfall delivered by our most recent Alberta Clipper system. The clipper that began affecting the area yesterday evening was definitely potent – by the time I headed up to the mountain early this morning, we’d already picked up 7 inches of new snow at the house. I couldn’t really get a sense for accumulations heading up the…

I NEED TO KNOW MORE ABOUT BOAT MASCOT
our sports team was called The Clippers
do you know what a clipper is
it's one of these
just. big fuckin boat. not like a cartoon boat or anything, they just painted a boat on the wall in our gym
I don't know why, nobody knew why
I cannot emphasize enough that I went to high school in Alberta, which last I checked, was not anywhere near any ocean. they don't have giant seafaring boats there

Here are the 9 ways it can snow in New Jersey

It's coming
Today is supposed to reach a high of -7C or -8C, after which the temperatures are supposed to drop. An Alberta Clipper weather system is blowing its way through the prairies. The snow is supposed to start this afternoon, for a total of up to 15cm over 36 hours. We already have a light dusting of snow right now. I didn’t get a head count, but the cats definitely prefer to be in the sunroom, or…

⛄️ ─ build a snowman
@tczier
The storm had been sudden, an Alberta Clipper dropping seven inches of snow on them and effectively shutting down most of the state. Technically, Ben could do a lot of work from home, but where was the fun in that? By his logic, he wasn't at his home in Texas, and was therefore lacking all his home office essentials, like notes and a drafting table. And WiFi. Kidding. The power was fine, but as long as he wasn't answering any calls, nobody had to know that. There were some perks to owning his own firm.
There was a snowman half-constructed on the lawn, and he might have been humming "Do You Want to Build a Snowman?" under his breath without realizing it. He didn't even have any kids he could blame it on. He just liked Disney movies. The top-heavy second snowball had started to slide off, and Ben had dropped to his knees to catch it, an oomph sounding as it turned out to be heavier than expected. "Doc, I think we're losing him," he laughed, shifting to try to leverage it back on without dropping the whole thing.

I live in Southern Alberta, which is just north of Montana, in one of the spots that is now only in green/pale purple on the map, and we have had an 'extreme weather' warning for the entire past week due to how freaking cold it is. Like right now it's only -40*, but the clipper is right at its tail end, with a chinook already starting and scheduled to snap us out of it by Christmas. And I mean Alberta is famous for having absolutely crazy weather and rarely following 'seasons' at all, and our chinooks and clippers that can raise or drop the temperature by 40*C overnight, but this has been a REALLY nasty clipper. Also our furnace broke, mid clipper, so that was a really not fun night/day as it was like -60*C, but Christmas Eve is only supposed to be 0*c so I'm practically crying in relief even as the chinook is triggering a migrane.
Stay safe, stay indoors, and preferably huddled in blankets in front of a fire. And keep your chins up, cause chinooks tend to blow south into the states alot more easily/quickly than clippers do, so you should be warming up soon-ish!
It's about to hit us here in Oklahoma and the rest of the southern states that are not used to this level of cold.
Please take this seriously if you live somewhere this is going to impact significantly.
I just sincerely hope texas' power grid doesn't fail them again.
but at least a small blessing is that this isn't bringing much precipitation with it and the worst of it will be the wind.
Anyway. Stay inside, wear layers, and bundle up. Get your cold weather shit prepped now if you haven't yet.

Ewwwww
The very LAST thing I want to do is go out in this nasty, stinky crap, but one of the interviews is in person. The other is zoom. Canada sends so much shit to this area - Alberta clippers, polar vortexes, nor'easters & now stinky, nasty smoke. The joys of living on the 'northcoast' (that's all the states that border the Great Lakes).

Bolton Valley, VT 16FEB2024 (Night)
The Alberta Clipper system from this morning had departed, but we were back up on the hill tonight for some night skiing with friends. E wanted to catch up with some friends who were doing some night skiing at Bolton Valley tonight, so on top of my morning session of ski touring followed by riding the lifts with Stephen and Johannes, I ended up right back up at the mountain in the evening. It was…

Member Ceci: Given that the government has not yet held public consultations on this $20 billion giveaway – all they’ve done is hold a few closed-door meetings with a select group of people and friends – and given that the Premier lobbied for this giveaway before becoming Premier and hired another lobbyist into her office to orchestrate this giveaway and given that the minister has said that there won’t be anymore details about this handout until after the election, why is this government hiding this $20 billion giveaway from Albertans? Are they too scared to run on it? Run on it.
Mr. Guthrie: Let me provide you with a proof point here, one regarding the provincial board of the NDP. On this board sits Gil McGowan of the Alberta Federation of Labour, who was supposed to be a champion of Alberta workers, but, Mr. Speaker, that’s not the case. He opposed Trans Mountain. He opposed Energy East, opposed Keystone, opposed Northern Gateway, opposed the Alberta Clipper, and that’s not all. In 2016 the NDP appointed him co-chair of a committee to diversify the oil and gas sector, and by diversify we mean eliminate, one more reason the NDP cannot be trusted.

Apparently we got hit with an Alberta Clipper right after the pre-Christmas flash freeze and snow showers so the roads are once again covered. I guess it's lucky that we were able to have that window of relatively clear weather yesterday to feed all of those people on Christmas. Or maybe Jesus did it idk dude is said to work in mysterious ways whatever.
