So I had to draw Gale and Sam after this post, the temptation was too strong. So here LMAO
My boys fr
(closeups, descriptions, and reasons for certain decisions under the cut lmao)
Gale <3
[The text on the left says "Professional Yapper (affectionate)", and the text on the right says "Talking about magic in Faerƻn". The spell icons shown are for Fireball, Thunderwave, and Eldritch Blast, all evocation spells (I made him an evocation wizard in my play through). While normally, by the book at least, Eldritch Blast isn't a wizard spell, Gale got in in my play through At Some Point (it's been a while LMAO), and he uses it A LOT.]
Sam <3
[The text on his right says "SO Quiet (affectionate)", and the text on his left says "Entirely lost but doing his best" (in reference to Gale's talking about magic).]
[The text in the middle of the full image says "Only here cause Auva and Darlin' got in a bar fight together".]
So for some context, I had brainworms from realizing that my take on Sam was insanely similar to Gale and I had to shove them in a room together. They're my favorites ever, and I think Gale would talk Sam's ear off for literal ages. He'd as SO many questions about how magic works in Dahlia and ramble about the differences between the two places for ages. He's only quiet long enough to listen to Sam's answers, I swear to god. And because he's an expert in magic in Faerƻn, he's ABSOLUTELY talking about it at a WAY higher level than can be expected of Sam to understand. It would be hilarious.
Gale's Tav is a Seldarine Drow, battlemaster fighter, with a folk hero background, named Auva Alaraph Porrima (or just Auva). Very much a chaotic good, and determined to get all his party members a good ending (except Minthara, who got nuked on sight LMAO).
I think if for whatever reason the BG3 cast were in Dahlia, and Auva and Darlin' were in the same bar at the same time, they'd see someone being a dick and both go charging. Insanely protective people with a refusal to allow injustice, and all. They'd stay in contact and. Ya know. Gale and Sam would eventually meet through them and their shenanigans (Auva is a TERRIBLE influence on Darlin' solely for the fact that he Will Not Stop Fighting and you could not possibly convince him to calm down. Do something stupid and if he can't talk you into not doing it he Will Kick Your Ass.)
Anyway I'm gonna shut up now, ask me questions about them (and my tav, oh my god I love him) <3

papspsps i was wondering why we think vega is ancient due to his stars name/age? iām a big astronomy nut and the nomenclature of stars donāt seem to be any correlation to the daemon/demon but i think you might be onto something with star age (however ariabourne are theoretically immortal so :/)
anyways enjoy some nomenclature facts about the currently named demons and daemons!
Caelum is actually pronounced similar to see-lehm and was first discovered in the 1750s and is still recognized as one of the 88 modern constellations!
Gavin (whos name is Vindemiator, the male form of the star name Vindemiatrix) is interesting. the star itself is Epsilon Virginis and was only officially recognized as Vindemiatrix around 6 years ago back in 2016! Itās original names were Alaraph, Provindemiator, Protrigetrix and Protrygetor which would mean if we went by nomenclature as coalescing date, Gavin at his oldest could only be 6 years old! barely!
The star Epsilon Carinae was only classified as Avior in the 1930s by an Air Almanac for the RAF so Avior could only be as old as about 92!
Camelopardalis was first attested in 1785 and the reason we call it the giraffe constellation is because the word giraffe comes from the two greek words for Camel and Spotted ("ĪŗĪ¬Ī¼Ī·Ī»ĪæĻ" (kamÄlos)+ "ĻĪ¬ĻĪ“Ī±Ī»Ī¹Ļ" (pardalis)) It was named such due to its camel like neck and their notable spots!
Regulus is the first daemon to break the ongoing nomenclature the DAEmons are named after constellations and DEmons are named after stars as Regulus is the name of Alpha Leonis, the brightest star in the constellation Leo and was named Regulus was first recognized as its official name at the same time as Vindemiatrix in 2016!
Crux, not Avior funnily enough, is the constellation described by Dante allegorically in his Divine Comedy as he describes an Asterism of 4 stars in the southern sky but Cruxās first distinguisher is quite the confounding one. There are roughly 6 people credited all at different times and due to the lack of proper graphing and drawings itās hard to tell who got it right first. as early as 1455 or late as 1679.
Vega or Alpha Lyrae (Lyr) (my favorite star funny enough) was first star other than the Sun to have its image and spectrum photographed! Vega, originally Wega, originates from the Arabic word ŁŲ§ŁŲ¹ (wÄqiā) and means falling and was officially designated to this star in 2016!
The reason so many were named in 2016 is because in 2016, the International Astronomical Union (IAU) organized a Working Group on Star Names (WGSN) to catalog and standardize proper names for stars. The WGSN's first bulletin of July 2016 included a table of the first two batches of names approved by the WGSN!

Oh my god, yes! Astronomy facts! Thank you so much for sharing these with us, Star Anon.
Saving them on the side if I ever in the mood for more headcanons about Vega~
