Mitchell's Diary - In over my Head
One-shots in the series of Art & Vampires. Excerpts from Mitchell’s diary.
Words: 767
Being a badass male vampire doesn't mean you can handle female vampires 😁
References to stories in the Art & Vampires series - 1. New Orleans and 2. London and 6. New York
Art & Vampires is about the relationship and developments around Mitchell, a vampire and Amy (Ames), a human. It’s about the vampire world, the supernatural, but also about history, cities around the world, art, antiques and adventures.
Face claims vampires: Aidan Turner - John Mitchell, Richard Armitage - Rick Marlowe, Jaime Murray - Alana (Lana) Lenoir and Ben Barnes - Ben Sheldon. Humans: Mila Kunis - Amy (Ames) Quinn, Bianca Lawson - Lena Parker (witch).

Rick warned me, but of course I didn't listen. That time, I was in way over my head and I can tell you that being immortal is less attractive when Alana keeps bringing up your mistake and rubs your face in it every time she gets the chance. But what can I say, she was a beauty.
I'm talking about Neesha of course.
I'll never forget her and not just because Lana keeps reminding me, the she-devil. I hope she doesn't get her hands on this diary, otherwise I'm screwed, like that time I got involved with Neesha. And I mean literally.
It was in the forties, nineteen forties. I need to remember to mention the centuries. We were back in London and I had been able to get my life, or existence, to be exact, back on track after, well, you know, Belle.
I had been thinking. I couldn't go through any of that again, losing a loved one. I'd had a hard enough time before Belle, dealing with the fact that you will always outlive your loved ones, but losing Belle hit hard, as you are well aware, because I've written diaries full of my laments.
So, I had a plan, a brilliant one. I had the perfect solution. I would get myself a female vampire companion, who would never leave me and I would have eternal happiness. Neesha was going to be just that. Or so I thought.
In the first half of the 20th century, we moved around from New Orleans to New York, and finally back to London. After the war, London was a mess. The city was severely damaged and even though our neighborhood wasn't spared, The Mayfair, our mansion, was. We moved back for a while to keep an eye on things and make sure that it remained our house. People who lost their homes during the bombings of London were being relocated to abandoned houses and we needed to make sure that our mansion was not going to be taken over by others.
Fortunately for me, even though the city was damaged and the people were recovering from the war, there were always parties to be found. Especially for us vampires.
As you can imagine, I was spending as much time as I could attending as many parties as I could. I was determined to find that vampire companion and never be sad again.
Neesha was a gorgeous goddess, who stood out amongst the crowd like a shining star in the dark night sky, quite literally, with her shiny jewelry and extravagant silver dress.
I can't even remember how I got there, to that party, but I will always remember the sight of her and how I, half intoxicated, chatted her up and actually managed to get her undivided attention.
As said, Rick had warned me not to get involved with her. He had an eye for 'trouble', but, you know, I had my plan and this scrumptious woman was going to fit that perfectly.
To this day I'm still not sure if she was playing with me, like a cat with her prey, or if I had enamored her with my charm.
By the end of the night, having abandoned Rick and Alana, I found myself in Neesha's arms, or in hindsight, claws, in what seemed to be a former hotel somewhere in the city. She had made the hotel her home and the top room, with a huge skylight, was her den.
I don't know how many times we fucked, but it seemed like we did nothing else for days. It was like I was under her spell and I couldn't get free and I am man enough to admit that my dick actually hurt!
You know, as vampires, we recover quickly, also on that front, but after Neesha, I was about ready to be celebate for the rest of my immortal life.
At some point, I must have seen the light and realize that I wasn't ready to have my existence ended by sex. Even if death by sex sounds pleasant enough. So, I ran and didn't look back and my not so brilliant plan of getting a vampire companion went out the door with me. I didn't stay celibate of course, but those are stories for another time.
Anyway, I'm not sure why I wrote down this memory. Maybe it's because Ames was fishing for embarrassing stories from the past and I didn't really want to confess all this to her. Or maybe it's a way of letting go. Now if only Alana could do the same.
Time to say goodnight for now and hide you well, my dear diary. I'm ready to join my sweet Ames in bed, cuddle up to her and make pleasant memories.

Robert Hagan Rowland, Jr
Robert Hagan Rowland, Jr., of Wilkesboro passed away Wednesday, December 11, at Forsyth Memorial Hospital following a short but difficult fight with esophageal cancer.
Hagan was born on October 18, 1969, in Forsyth County to Robert Hagan Rowland, Sr., and Nada Cleary Rowland (Lawrimore). He was preceded in death by his father and his step-father James T Lawrimore. He is survived by his mother of Wilkesboro, his daughter Adrianna Rowland Harrs and husband Jacob of Winston-Salem, sisters Amy Rowland Nichols and husband Greg of Charlotte, Dr. Emily Rowland Roberson and husband Craig of Advance, and Elizabeth Rowland Davis and husband Mack of Boomer, NC, along with five nephews and two nieces. He is also survived by two special people "adopted" into the family, Donna Dixon of Mocksville who lived with the Rowlands when Hagan was a young child and Stacy Kilby of North Wilkesboro who has become another family member following the death of her parents.
Hagan was a member of Peace Haven Baptist Church in North Wilkesboro and practiced his Christian faith by being one of the most giving and most willing friends to help anyone in need. His most remembered asset was his smile, always accompanied with a twinkle of mischief in his eyes.
A multi-talented young man, Hagan graduated with an AA in business administration from Wilkes Community College where he was a member of the Student Council, then elected President of the Student Body. As he traveled throughout the state he obtained additional degrees in construction, construction management, and horticulture, and found his niche in specialty designs for finish work. He worked with HS Greene Construction while in college where he developed his talents for woodworking. In 2014 he moved to Kansas to work for Bullseye Construction where he supervised the finishing crew, and created his own specialty woodworking designs for $1 million-plus homes, featured on a series for HGTV. Woodworking was also a hobby where he could create anything he could imagine, but he also had a passion for fishing, especially with his life-long friend and fishing buddy Reggie Kyle.
Funeral services were December 14, at Reins Sturdivant Chapel with Rev. Tim Pruitt officiating. Burial was in Mountlawn Memorial Park.
Flowers are being accepted or donations may be made to Samaritan Kitchen of Wilkes, PO Box 1072, Wilkesboro, NC.

Art & Vampires is about Mitchell and Rick, vampires and CEOs of VAMPs - Vintage and Art Marketing Partners. The stories are about the relationship between Mitchell and Amy (Ames), a human. It’s about the vampire world, the supernatural, history, cities around the world, art, antiques and adventures.
Face claims vampires: Aidan Turner - John Mitchell, Richard Armitage - Rick Marlowe, Jaime Murray - Alana (Lana) Lenoir and Ben Barnes - Ben Sheldon. Humans: Mila Kunis - Amy (Ames) Quinn, Bianca Lawson - Lena Parker (witch).
I can’t remember when I first noticed her, but when I did, I knew that I wanted to get close to her, get to know her. It was already dark, the first time I talked to her, in that alley. I had been shadowing her for a while before that first encounter. I knew that she would come home from her job at the library. Any minute, she would appear from the subway and make her way home to her apartment.
I had seen her take a shortcut through the alley a couple of times, saw her hesitate for just a moment, contemplating if what she was about to do was a good idea, before briskly and bravely might I add, making her way home through that dark alleyway.
I had noticed scum holding up in that alley more and more and I couldn’t help but feel concern over her. I wanted her to be safe, protect her even. Strange, because I didn’t even know her and there were many others who took the same route. I sure didn’t care for them as I cared for this girl, that I didn’t even know.
That night, the weather was unforgiving. It was cold, the wind was brisk and cold rain was splattering on the pavement. I was watching, waiting for her to appear and there she was. She hurried across the street and paused a moment before disappearing into the alleyway.
I followed her, but I kept my distance. I had a bad feeling and sensed that something was about to happen. Or maybe it was simply a matter of how many times can this go right before something goes wrong.
Sure enough, the scum was there and I saw them close in on her. She had come to a stop, almost two thirds through. They blocked her way and she must have known that she was in trouble. She was quickly looking over her shoulder, turned around and started walking back out of the alley, but it was too late. One of those bastards grabbed her arm, spun her around and the others were quick to form a circle around her to block her way out.
All my senses heightened and the hair in the back of my neck stood up. Some text book horror movie dialogue went on between them and one of them had the nerve to talk about having fun with her. I snapped and rushed forward in my vampire form, fangs bared and my eyes pitch black.
When that scum saw my face, they were quick to turn around and ran off. She turned around and saw my pitch black eyes. I was afraid that I would scare her off and I cursed myself that I hadn’t turned back to human form in time. But she didn’t move away. She seemed intrigued, rather than scared. Maybe she thought that her mind had played tricks on her, or maybe she was really very brave. We introduced ourselves and that’s when I learned her name. Amy. Not that I stuck to that name for long. Somehow she was always Ames to me. My endearment. I think I only ever called her Amy when I was angry with her.
That evening, I accompanied her home and I knew that I needed her in my life. I set the things in motion and made it so that she would come work for our company VAMPs and sure enough, my dearest Ames is now part of my life. My love, who will be by my side forever. Hopefully for eternity.

Mitchell’s Diary - Alana
Words: 638
One-shots in the series of Art & Vampires. Excerpts from Mitchell’s diary.

Today Ames was asking Alana about her past and my little Sherlock was asking question after question. Lana is usually not the most patient vampire person, but she was in a reminiscing mood I guess.
We were gathered around the fire in our New Orleans townhouse. It was a crisp, but beautiful evening. It was one of those evenings where everything seemed to be mellow and good and almost as if everything is well in the world. So I thought I’d write down the memory of this perfect evening for later, to cheer me up, in case I’m ever in a grumpy mood.
The fire was crackling in the hearth and music was playing softly in the background. Rick had gotten his hands on a bottle of 15-year old Redbreast Irish whiskey, which might have contributed to the good memories about this evening. He was in his armchair, Ames was cuddled up next to me, under a blanket, warming her hands on a big mug of tea and Alana was on the floor, nestled between Rick’s legs.
Alana was answering questions and telling her stories and Rick and I chimed in on occasion, when she was telling about past times we spent together. She was telling about her cons, or smart ways of doing business, as she calls it, her encounters with witches and warlocks. Her adventures when chasing down artifacts and also how she became part of our family.
Hearing all the stories made me realize how much I admire Alana. She is a tough woman and not to be messed with for she will show her fangs, literally. But she has always been my buddy. I have always been able to rely on her and she on me. Whenever we can, we work together, we travel together, but mostly, we always have fun together.
I know that Rick doesn’t always approve of us, of our shenanigans and that he often wishes that we would behave a bit more seriously, but what is he going to do? Ground us? And we are living such long lives, why wouldn’t we have fun, you know.
Alana didn’t ask to be a vampire, but she definitely owns it. She is strong and smart and hot as hell. Not that we were ever lovers, we have always been buddies, but just look at her. I hope that Ames never gets to read this. She might get jealous. I should hide my diary well or my little Sherlock will get her hands on it. I’m not against sharing, but I need my space for my own thoughts as well, you see.
At some point, Ames got to the burning question that had been on her mind for a while, how Lana became a vampire. But Lana dodged the question. I saw her tense slightly, barely visible, but I know her and I saw it. I guess she wasn’t ready to share that story just yet and I think that Ames understood and respected that.
I love how the girls have become close. I don’t think Alana ever let anyone come as close as Ames. She usually keeps her impenetrable walls up. I guess she lost faith in people when she got turned. She has never really let anyone in, except me and Rick.
Ames is special and so is Lana. I’m grateful to have such brilliant and gorgeous women so close to me in my life. I feel blessed and I’m not saying this because we finished that bottle of whiskey and I’m feeling sentimental. I mean it with all my heart. I love them both so much. Lana will always be by my side and although Ames and I haven’t talked about our future, I guess that in my heart, I hope that she will be by my side forever too.

We went back to New York, just Rick and me. Ames wanted to come, but we told her she couldn’t. That didn’t go over too well, but it was just business, you know and I didn’t want to linger here too long, since I’m not very fond of the place.
But I must admit that it wasn’t as dreadful as I had imagined it to be. I didn’t really want to come back here after what happened to Ames last year, being held hostage by those vile vampires just because of some dark relic. And of course because of the sad memories of the time after I lost my beloved Belle just after the turn of the century, the 19th century that is. I thought that I would be miserable with all those bad memories, but it was actually quite nice. It was just me and Rick again and we actually had a good time.
When we didn’t have to work, we met up with old friends, we enjoyed good dinners, some theater, art exhibitions and strolls through the park. We reminisced about the past and how everything has changed so much. I mean, I can talk to Ames about it but Rick and I, we lived through those years, you see, and we have seen it change with our own eyes. It’s just different talking about it with him.
But next to the fun times, there was plenty of time to reflect as well. Of course I haven’t forgotten the old days, how could I? New York and I have a history and it wasn’t always good. So much happened here on an emotional level. They say you forget physical pain, but emotional pain will always remain and I agree.
The other day, I took a stroll through Central Park. It’s beautiful this time of year, in autumn, or fall, as they call it here. Autumn sounds so much better in my ears though. It has a certain warmth to it, I think. I love the colors and the soft rays of sunlight making their way through the foliage to illuminate the fallen leaves on the ground and making the dew drops sparkle.
It was early and not too busy yet. I was taking in the fresh autumn air, my mind wandering to memories of old times like I wandered the paths of the park. It was so much different back in the day with all the carriages and horses. But even then, people were escaping the busy city, only to find themselves among everyone else again, but just in the park. In that respect nothing much has changed. I guess that when you live in a busy city like New York, there is no way of escaping people, really.
I stopped and took a moment to admire some of the old trees, the same trees who were planted here when the park was created or maybe have been here even longer, like us vampires. They too have seen the world change, from a sparsely populated marsh area with a couple of farms, to this, a rectangle piece of land, boxed in by all these skyscrapers. It’s not less pretty though. I quite like the contrast between the park and the shiny tall buildings surrounding it.
But as I stood there, taking in all the beauty and the relative calm, my mind wandered back to the old days, when we arrived here, after I lost Belle. It was like a switch was flipped in my mind back then. The human in me no longer cared if the beast in me came out and it sure did.
I remember watching the people gather in this park, observing the crowd, waiting until I found the right victim. I never fed on anyone here though. No, I carefully picked them and followed them back into the city at the end of the day, when darkness fell. There, in the dark and deserted alleys, I would feed until the pain of my memories was reduced enough to feel alive again and I was ready to go home and do it all over again a couple of days later, until finally, Rick, Alana, Ben, they succeeded in quieting the beast in me. It will always be there, but I had it under control, for a while. But I don’t want to go there with my thoughts right now.
Those were very dark times, but experiencing New York like this, relaxed, happy, more human than beast, it healed my feelings about the city. I don’t dislike it as much as I used to and I’m even thinking of taking Ames Christmas shopping here, since she didn’t get a chance last year. She will love that.
I’m happy that my feelings towards New York have changed. We have a special bond, me and her and I think that there is hope for us. After all, she has been my home in a time when I needed a refuge, a place to heal. And she still is, even though New Orleans feels like my real home now and I will be happy to return there and to my beloved Ames tomorrow. I can’t wait to hold her in my arms again. We have only been apart for one week, but it feels like an eternity.
PS. I’m debating if going Christmas shopping is really something I would like to do or if it is a strategy to avoid Amy’s cold treatment when I get back. I mean, she made it pretty clear that she was very disappointed that she couldn’t come with us and that is putting it lightly. Maybe I’m just dreading her reaction. I just hope that the gift I bought her and the promise of Christmas shopping will redeem me. I know that I am supposed to be a vicious, scary and strong vampire, but somehow Ames has the power to make me forget all that when she is angry with me. Being human is very complicated sometimes. Or maybe love is. And I don't think that being immortal and living forever will be enough to figure out either one of those.

Podfic - Mitchell’s Diary - Autumn Reflections
Trying something new. This is my recording of one of my Mitchell's Diary stories. It's just under 6 minutes.
Please note that English isn't my first language. You can follow the very long subtitles text below. I had fun recording this and it's a little scary posting it, but here I am. I hope that you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed writing and recording it.
One-shots in the series of Art & Vampires. Excerpts from Mitchell’s diary.
Words: 1028
Mitchell reflects upon the past and his relationship with New York City and his vampire life.

My Belle, oh how beautiful and marvellous she was. It seems only yesterday when we met, in New Orleans, but it has been over a century. Time certainly does not fly being a vampire, but when I think of Belle, somehow I get transported back in time and it’s like it was only yesterday. I love my Ames, my love in this lifetime, and I wouldn’t know what to do without her, but Belle was the first love of my life. That’s a contradiction, when you think about it, because the love of my life should mean only one love. But I guess our vampire life is different and so are my feelings. I love Ames as much, or maybe even more, than my beautiful Belle back in the day. But I don’t really want to compare.
It was a beautiful summer evening in New Orleans, just before the turn of the century, the 19th century. There was a feast of some sort, I can’t quite remember, but I do remember Belle. People were dancing and there she was. It seemed like the world around me stopped existing and I could only see this beautiful girl, with her long dark hair, her beautiful smile, dancing in her bright red dress. Time seemed to slow down as I could only stare at her.
She noticed me looking at her, following her every move and being her daring self, she approached me, held out her hand, inviting me to dance with her. No words were spoken. She mesmerized me with her beautiful dark eyes and enticing smile. We danced and danced and at the end of the night, she had captured my heart and I was lost.
After that first encounter, we met every day. She brought so much joy in my life. Rick liked her too and even Alana sort of got a liking to her, though not as much as she is taking a liking to my Ames. Those two are the best of friends by now.
There came a time when I had to tell her that I was a vampire, but I didn’t know how and I didn’t want to scare her off, but it had to be done. But there was no need. Belle already knew and still, she loved me just for who I was.
We were making plans to spend our lives together, marry even, when that dreaded sickness, yellow fever, hit the city. Belle was tending to family and friends and as I had feared, she got sick too. I was by her side every single minute of the day and I told her to fight and I pleaded with the gods that she might survive, but she didn’t, she succumbed to the illness and my beautiful Belle was taken from me.
I was heartbroken and I thought I would die of grief. I was angry too and started feeding off people again. Rick took me away from New Orleans to New York, to heal. In the end, after years, I was able to live with the sorrow of not having my Belle in my life, but it still pained me to think of her for a very long time.
I’ve had girls over the long years of my life, but I never got attached to anyone. Maybe out of fear of losing someone again, maybe because I thought I could never love anyone like I had loved my precious Belle, until I met Ames. She is quite something, to have captured my heart.
The first time I went on a business trip with Ames, I got to see my Belle again. I never knew what had happened to the painting, that someone had commissioned and there it was, in the Heritage Mansion.
Sometimes, I steal away from everyone and everything, to go see my Belle, in the mansion. We are on good terms with the owner and he thinks that I just like the antiques and art in the house. He knows that I like the painting, but he doesn’t know why. I never told any human, except Ames.
I’m grateful to live close to the mansion and that I’m able to look at my beautiful Belle from time to time. To be able to reminisce upon our time together, so long ago. It’s important to me, so that I don’t forget. Although I don’t think I ever could. After all, she was the first love of my life, my Belle.

Art & Vampires Series - Master list and notes here
There was a good turnout, too good almost. You were looking around at all the people that had come to visit the exhibition you helped put together. You smiled. You had known that this would be a success and it turned out to be just that.
Your attention got drawn to the side of the room, to someone in particular. A tall, dark and very handsome man was strolling past the artworks. He had a beautiful profile, a slight smile on his face. He stopped to look at a painting, his back now turned to you. You let your eyes trail over his broad back, down to his slim waist and probably equally beautifully sculpted bum under that well fitted suit. You caught yourself before you started imagining what else was hidden under the tight fitted pants.
For some reason, he looked familiar, but you couldn’t put your finger on it. Maybe it was a customer or maybe you had seen him around in the neighborhood? You didn’t have more time to think about it, because your attention was needed elsewhere. You regretfully threw one last glance on the handsome stranger and turned your attention to the other visitors. You hoped that you would have time to talk to him later, that he would still be there.
The evening went on way too long to your liking. For a while, you were able to get glimpses of the stranger, but at some point, you lost him. You felt a slight disappointment, or was it irritation? Irritated that you didn’t have a chance to meet him. You waved away the feeling and wondered why you were enthralled by him so much anyway. Surely you had seen other handsome men. Still, there was something about him and you couldn’t shake the thought of him.
By the end of the evening, when the visitors had left, you sighed and walked to the door to close it. You turned around and there he was, right in front of you. It was as if he had appeared out of nowhere.
You should have said “sorry we are closed”, but you didn’t. You just looked at him for what seemed an eternity. You were captured by his stunning azure eyes looking into yours.
‘Good evening,' you managed to get out.
‘Good evening to you too,’ he replied.
Fuck, a British accent you thought. You knew very well that your weakness was handsome, tall, dark AND a British accent.
‘I didn’t startle you, did I?’ he asked.
‘No, no, not at all,’ you smiled. ‘I’m sorry, but the exhibition is closed now, but if there is something I can help you with or if there is something you are interested in?
‘You could say that,’ he said, letting his eyes trail over you and back up to meet your eyes again.
You felt heat rising up in you and a flutter in your stomach when he stepped closer. You weren’t tiny and you were wearing high heels, but still he towered over you. You looked up into his eyes, craning your neck.
He cocked his head to the side and moved his hand up to the side of your face to put a curl behind your ear. His eyes lingered on your exposed neck for a bit and he licked his lips before he put his hand down.
You had no idea why you would let a stranger touch you like that. You must have lost your marbles.
‘I’m Rick Marlowe,’ he introduced himself.
You managed to remember your name and introduced yourself as well.
‘I would very much like to take you for a drink somewhere,’ he said, ‘If that is not too straightforward of me?’
‘No, no, not at all,’ you said. ‘I’d very much like that too. Just let me get my things and close off.’
Once outside, he said, ‘I know you don’t know me, but do you trust me to take you back to my place for that drink?’
Wow, he moved very fast and you had seen enough horror movies to not fall for that. Your body and brain thought otherwise.
‘I’d love that,’ you replied.
What are you doing? you asked yourself. Still, you followed him to his car and a short drive and some small talk later, you arrived at his “place”. His place was a mansion. A big one. An old one. So, tall, handsome, British and rich, you thought.
Inside, he took your coat and led you to one of the many rooms the mansion must have.
You couldn’t believe your eyes. The room was full of art and antiques. The design of the room was gorgeous and the art and antiques beautiful. You could easily see that it was the genuine stuff too, not some cheap knock offs.
While Rick was getting you drinks, you wandered around the room, touching the various objects and furniture. He clearly had good taste.
‘Here you go,’ he handed you a glass of whiskey.
‘Cheers,’ he said.
‘Cheers,’ you said in return and took a sip of your drink. You closed your eyes and let out a sigh at the taste of the whiskey. Oh that tasted heavenly. It reminded you of the fall with that smooth, nutty taste with a hint of cinnamon and dark chocolate. When you opened your eyes, you saw Rick looking at you with a content smile on his face.
‘You like that, huh?’ he said. ‘What else do you like?’ He moved to the fireplace, where he crouched down to get the fire started. You followed him and sat down on the big, comfortable couch.
‘I like lots of things,’ you said. ‘Define the subject’.
He moved to sit next to you on the couch, his body slightly turned towards you, his elbow resting on the back of the couch. His eyes trailed over your body again. For some reason, you didn’t mind. You felt completely comfortable with him. How was that even possible? Deep down, you knew that it was the shallowness of being extremely attracted to him.
‘Tell me about yourself and all this,’ you gestured with your finger to the room, still holding your glass of whiskey. Not only were you interested in the collections, but by now, you were already addicted to his deep, dark voice and wouldn’t mind listening to it for eternity.
‘Well, I’m an art and antiques dealer, so obviously, I’m interested in that because of my profession, but I also like the aspect of keeping the history alive. I love how objects and art pass the test of time and give you a look into our lives as they were centuries ago. They are reminders of our history.’
Little did you know that he actually meant his own history.
‘Do you mind if I take off my shoes?’ you asked, already knowing the answer. The way he had been looking at you, he probably didn’t mind you taking off everything you were wearing.
‘No, please, make yourself comfortable,’ he said. Did you detect his eyes going darker? It was probably your imagination. You reached down and took off your shoes with a sigh. You also took off your cardigan to reveal the top underneath it, all under Rick’s watchful eye. He was following your every move. You felt his eyes on you and you didn’t mind.
He moved to refill your glass with that heavenly potion. You were shamelessly checking out his perfect ass as he walked over to grab the bottle. As you were chatting, you felt completely relaxed. It was as if you had known each other for a long time. His voice really was heavenly, as were his eyes and you couldn’t help but study him while you were talking.
You had some idea of his strong body underneath the white shirt he was wearing. He had gotten rid of his tie and loosened the top buttons of his shirt, revealing his chest hair. He was rolling up his sleeves, revealing his muscled forearms. His hands were big, but gracious. Just for a second you thought of what those hands could do to you, those long fingers, how they would feel on your body, or inside your body.
You were surprised that you were having these thoughts, since you only just met him, but really, it wasn’t your fault. He was just gorgeous in every way.
His hand came up to your face once again to move a strand of hair out of the way and his fingers lightly caressed your cheek. You leaned into his touch. You weren’t speaking, just looking at each other. His fingers lingered and then trailed down your neck. It sent sparks down your body and you felt your body tense.
His eyes trailed to your lips as your eyes trailed to his. An instant later, his lips touched yours, oh so gently. He paused for a moment as if to ask for approval. You granted it by kissing him back. Your lips parted and your tongues touched. One hand came up your skirt and moved up your leg. With the other hand, he held the back of your neck. While exploring each other’s mouth, he gently caressed your neck with his finger, making you moan.
He pushed you down on the couch and you shifted your bodies until you were in a comfortable position. Your hands moved from touching his strong arms down to his bum and as you had expected, it felt as heavenly as it looked. Rick’s kisses moved away from your lips toward your neck. He nibbled lightly at the flesh, which made your nipples even harder and sent sparks down your body, making you wet between the legs.
Rick’s hand trailed up your skirt further and reached your panties. He slipped his fingers in and touched your folds. You shivered at his touch and let out a sigh, half closing your eyes. He hummed approvingly and moved to caress your neck with his lips again. Again, he rasped lightly with his teeth over your skin, causing goosebumps to form on your skin. You let out a disapproving moan when he pulled away.
'Open your eyes,' he whispered. 'Don’t be afraid.'
You gasped when you looked into his eyes. His bright blue eyes had turned completely black. You swallowed. You didn't move. You weren't scared. Fascinated was the word.
'I won't harm you, I promise,' he said.
'Are you a demon?' you whispered.
Rick smiled, baring his fangs. 'No, I'm not.'
He bent down again and met your lips. His lips parted and your tongue darted into his mouth. You felt the sharpness of his fangs when your tongue touched them, wondering if they would pierce your tongue and make you bleed, but Rick pulled away and sat up.
He undid a couple of buttons on his shirt and pulled it over his head, baring his hairy chest and very well toned body. You reached up and ran your hands over his chest and down to his pants, where they met a promising bulge. It didn’t take long for both of you to get undressed, eager to feel each other’s touch on your bare skins.
You landed on the floor, on the rug a little closer to the fire. You wanted to touch him, feel him, but he held you down by your wrists, making it impossible to touch him. You shifted your body, desperately trying to meet him, but he made you wait.
He held you down and trailed his lips over your body, nibbling at your nipples and moving further down your body. You were on fire. He was touching you in all the right places, making you high with pleasure.
When he moved back up, he parted your legs with his and you felt his member touching your folds. You gasped in anticipation. He looked at you, again, for approval? You didn’t know, but you just wanted him inside of you, desperately. He let go of your wrists and positioned himself. He slowly entered you, making you arch your back and throw your head back, while taking him in all the way.
You sighed and he moaned. ‘You feel so good, he whispered.’
You weren’t able to respond. All you could do was moan when he filled you completely. He ran his lips over your shoulder and when moving inside of you, the nibbles turned into soft bites, but he was careful not to break the skin. You felt absolutely delighted.
‘Your heart is beating so hard and fast,’ he whispered in your ear. ‘It sounds like the beating of a drum.’
‘Hmmm’ was the only reaction you were able to produce. He shifted his body and you gasped when he moved inside of you at a new angle, hitting the right spot. You wouldn’t be long, if he continued moving like this.
‘Look at me,’ he demanded.
You opened your eyes as far as you could and looked into his pitch black eyes. He picked up the pace and you did all you could not to close your eyes. With a couple of hard, deep thrusts, he pulled you over the edge. You arched your back and he bent down over your, finding your shoulder. You felt his fangs in your skin when he came with a loud moan.
Both panting, you remained as you were for a moment. Then he pulled out and when he looked at you, his sky blue eyes had returned. He smiled at you and gently caressed your hair. You kissed once more, the taste of the Redbreast whiskey still lingering on your lips.

We went to see a mid-nineteenth century art exhibition earlier this week and Ames got the idea to dress up in real period clothing for a Heritage Dance to which we had been invited.
The dance was in the old mansion, the very same one Ames and I went to on our first business trip together. Barney, the owner, had invited us. He is starting his own Heritage Club or something and he was throwing a big party, a fundraiser. The invite said to wear period clothing, but I’m sure he meant fake costumes, not real period attire.
I told the girls that it wouldn’t be a good idea, because surely someone would notice that we were wearing the real deal, but as usual, Alana ignored my advice and jumped right in and showed Amy her dresses from that period. I don’t even know where she kept them, but she still has them, after all this time. Of course it derailed from there. There was no stopping Amy nor Alana.
Alana told Rick and myself that we should wear our old clothes as well. I shouldn’t have even bothered bringing up that they were long gone, because she went ahead and magically got a trunk out of nowhere and sure enough, our costumes from centuries ago were in it. How she managed to keep them in such perfect conditions is beyond me.
I’m amazed by Alana sometimes, how she holds on to the past but still, in every time period, she goes through life as the most modern woman.
In hindsight, it was a good thing that we were wearing our own clothes. I really don’t fancy costumes from those horrid Halloween stores and wearing an outfit that has been worn by god knows who. The thought of it alone makes me gag.
Now, Rick and I were ok with wearing our mid-nineteenth century attire in the end, but then Alana brought up that we should make it complete with our hair; our facial hair, that is! Of course we protested. Rick is fond of his beard and I like my stubble, but Alana went ahead and threatened to shave us in our sleep with the old rusty antique blades she found in the trunk as well. Can you imagine our faces when she said that?? But we know better not to question Alana’s threats, so we caved and Rick’s beard went and we both ended up with those ridiculous looking sideburns, which were popular around that time.
The Heritage Dance was marvelous though. It was as if we were transported back in time. The guests had made a real effort to dress up and even though the costumes were from different time periods and fake, except for ours, it was a spectacular sight. We got compliments from many on our outfits, which was to be expected. Fortunately, no one brought up the idea that they could be real.
I must say that I had a great time. Lots of interesting conversations that evening and a couple of wonderful dances with Alana. I know that Ames gets a little jealous sometimes, when Alana and I dance, but she is such a joy to dance with. Of course we have had several centuries of practice, but Alana has always been a natural. We just move like one when we are on the dance floor. Fortunately, there was also the opportunity for a slow-dance with my beloved Ames. It was a good night and it will stay in my memories forever.
PS. Rick is growing back his beard and we got rid of our ridiculous sideburns right after the party. My stubble is back and my unruly curls have been freed from being stuck together by the bottle of hairspray that Alana used to contain them.

Amy broke into a fit of laughter. ‘What happened to your hair?’ she was finally able to produce, still laughing.
‘What do you mean?’ Mitchell asked, clueless as to what had made her burst out in laughter.
Amy held up a picture of Mitchell. It was one of Peggy’s.
‘Oh my god, where did you get this?’ he smiled. ‘Yeah, the hair was a bit much, wasn’t it?’ he grinned.
He was holding a photo of himself, hanging the painting on the wall, which he had seen the previous day in one of the rooms.
‘She even managed to take a picture of me on that hectic day,’ he smiled.
‘What happened,’ Amy asked.
‘We were preparing for a party, but she had just bought this painting and she wanted to have it mounted on the wall before the party started. In between making arrangements, she managed to bug me about not having hung it straight and now there is also a photo. I didn’t even notice, or maybe I don’t remember her taking it.’
‘I do understand better now, why it is dangerous to have you in a picture,’’ Amy said, now serious. ‘I would really love to have a picture of the both of us or even just of you, but I understand that it might get you in trouble.’
‘Well, maybe we can arrange something,’ Mitchell smiled. ‘I mean, if you keep it to yourself, I guess it won’t do any harm.’
They got quite some work done that day and Mitchell’s sadness gradually changed into a feeling of gratitude for the time he had been able to spend with Peggy. The objects he held and the art he observed brought back good memories.
By the end of the afternoon, he found Amy in one of the rooms eagerly documenting the art and antiques. She was sitting in a beam of sunlight that fell through the window. She hadn’t heard him approach and he leaned against the doorway, just observing her for a while. He loved her so much. He didn’t like to compare previous lovers, but he couldn’t help himself. He definitely loved Amy more than anyone. He thought that Belle had been the love of his life, but no one seemed to compare to Amy.
“Hey,’ Amy said, when she noticed him. “What’s up?”
“Well, I thought we should call it a day? Go out for dinner? Stroll through the city?”
‘I’d love that,’ Amy said with a smile and closed her laptop.
They decided to walk to the restaurant, since it was only half an hour away. They could use the fresh air and exercise having been cooped up in the house all day.
The restaurant, Rich Table, was very nice and relaxed. It wasn’t too busy yet and they managed to get a high table near the window. While they waited for their food, they had a drink and started winding down.
‘You know, we used to go to The Cliff house a lot. Shame it’s not there anymore. The views were stunning. I remember that well,’ Mitchell reminisced and started telling about the time he lived there with Peggy.
When Mitchell, or Rick were talking about old times, Amy was always fascinated. There was reading about it and seeing pictures, but Mitchell’s gorgeous eyes had actually witnessed everything she could only see on the internet or in photos or books or art. Usually she didn’t think of it too much, she was used to them making remarks about the past by now, but sometimes it hit her. They had actually lived in those times.
Amy listened with great interest to Mitchell’s blasts from the past until their plates were served and they dug in.
‘I have a list,’ Amy dropped.
‘You do? You have those often, don’t you?’ Mitchell grinned and thought back of their first road trip from Atlanta to New Orleans, when Amy had asked him endless questions about vampires and history. He was mostly happy to answer her questions. Usually it turned out very amusing.
‘Yeah, but I need to know stuff, you know,’ Amy half defended herself. ‘But anyway, this is not a list of questions. I have a list of things I want to do. We do have time, right? I mean the clients said that we could stay as long as we liked?’
‘Yeah, we have time,’ Mitchell confirmed. ‘So, what do you want to do?’
‘I want to do touristy stuff,’ Amy smiled.
‘Oh god,’ Mitchell sighed and rolled his eyes.
‘What?’ Amy protested. ‘I’ve always wanted to go on vacation to San Francisco and now that I’m here, I might as well cross the touristy things off my list, right?’
‘I suppose,’ Mitchell contemplated.
‘So, I need to go on a cable car ride,’ Amy said with determination.
Mitchell threw his head back and laughed hard.
Amy frowned.
‘Oh Ames, you are really aiming for the stars here, aren’t you?’ he giggled.
'What?' She exclaimed, half offended. 'It's a must do, you know. ' Amy went on mentioning the items on her list of touristy stuff and Mitchell, amused, patiently listened to her naming all the ghastly things on there.
‘Well, I agree with one thing on there,’ he said, when she was done, ‘I want to go to the Museum of Modern Art too and guess what? We can take a cable car there,’ he chuckled, his eyes twinkling.
Amy threw her napkin at him, only to make him laugh more.
‘Oh Ames, I love you,’ he said, taking her hand and planting a kiss on it.
After dinner, they walked home and took a little side tour crossing Jefferson Square Park. It was chilly and the wind was picking up. Amy, starting to feel tired, wrapped her scarf around her a bit tighter. Mitchell pulled her a little closer and wrapped his arm around her. It didn’t take long before they were home again. After warming up in the shower, they warmed up a little more in bed, until they fell asleep, exhausted from the day and the evening.
The following days, they mostly worked in the morning. In the afternoon and evening, they spent time together, exploring the city and crossing some things off Amy’s touristy list.
Normally Mitchell would have been slightly annoyed going to places where it was crowded or touristy, but somehow, he was very good humored and he was amused by Amy’s determination to visit the places on her list.
Wherever they went, he told Amy stories about Peggy and his time in the sixties. It made the touristy spots so much more interesting to Amy. He pointed out where all the big colored cars had been lined up along the streets, taking up so much more space than today’s cars.
When they visited number eight on Amy’s list, the Fisherman’s Wharf, he told her how he and Peggy had taken strolls, watching the yachts and imagining sailing across the seas to exotic places and finding the most gorgeous art and bringing it back home, which they of course never did. History turned out to have other plans for both of them. Amy imagined Peggy, who had also been a model, posing for pictures near the waterfront at the Fisherman’s Wharf. She has seen gorgeous pictures of Peggy around the house.
When they strolled through the Golden Gate Park, Mitchell told her about the parties and she imagined how Mitchell and Peggy and their friends danced to music in their hippy outfits. She gobbled up all the stories Mitchell shared with her.
Even though Amy had a couple more tacky touristy things on her list, on the last day, Mitchell was taking her somewhere else.
‘Come on Ames and bring your camera,’ he shouted from the other room.
‘Where are we going?’ Amy asked..
‘You’ll see,’’ Mitchell smiled, wrapping his arms around her and pulling her into a tight hug before they left the house.
They got into the car and after a short drive, Mitchell parked the car. Mitchell took Amy’s hand, and they walked towards Balmy Alley,
‘Oh wow!’ Amy exclaimed, when she saw all the murals, the colorful art on the walls. ‘This is so cool!’ She had a big smile on her face and took out the camera from her bag.
Mitchell watched her take pictures during the entire walk and he saw her admiration for the murals. And although his time with Peggy had been wonderful, he couldn’t help but think that his short stay here with Amy was more valuable than the several years he had lived there with Peggy.
He loved Amy so much and he couldn’t imagine a life without her anymore. He smiled at himself for being so sappy and so in love, but he loved the feeling of the butterflies in his stomach when he looked at her, when he touched her, when he saw her smile.
This case had been a trip down memory lane and he had shared the stories of him and Peggy and his life in San Francisco in the sixties with Amy, but he was happy to be there with Amy in the present. He was making new memories with her, which he would treasure for as long as he lived.
