"The Psalter." From Surah 17, Al Isra.
Tumblr media
We are studying the Prophet Muhammad's final enlightenment in Jerusalem, an end point of human understanding called an Isra, the product of a process called Mi'raj.
After step nine, called Dina, "inherent brilliant judgement" found in the previous frame is step ten, called Psalmody, the ability to sculpt:
17: 52-55:
"On the Day He will call you, you will ˹instantly˺ respond by praising Him,1 thinking you had remained ˹in the world˺ only for a little while.
Tell My ˹believing˺ servants to say only what is best. Satan certainly seeks to sow discord among them. Satan is indeed a sworn enemy to humankind.
Your Lord knows you best. He may have mercy on you if He wills, or punish you if He wills. We have not sent you ˹O Prophet˺ as a keeper over them.
Your Lord knows best all those in the heavens and the earth. And We have surely favoured some prophets above others, and to David We gave the Psalms.1 "
Commentary:
To Psalm means to vanish; as the impernanent vanishes what is revealed is that which is meant to be evergreen about what is called the Ka in Arabic which means "your being". It is the process of Psalmody that reveals the Ka:
The assumed root פסס (pss I) isn't used in the Bible but two derivations remain:
·         The masculine noun פס (pas), often thought to denote the flat of the hand or foot. In the Bible this noun is only used in conjuncture with a garment (Joseph's tunic - Genesis 37:3, or Tamar's robe - 2 Samuel 13:18), which is then assumed to have reached to the hand palms and the foot soles. Modern translations appear to interpret the spreading conveyed by this verb not so much in the spatial sense but rather in the way it looked; NAS figures that Joseph's tunic was "varicolored," and NIV has "richly ornamented". This may make perfect sense in view of this root's other derivative.
·         The feminine noun פסה (pissa), which meaning is as obscure as its root. It's used only once, in Psalm 72:16, and probably means abundance, or abundantly spread out.
The verb פסס (pasas II) means to disappear or vanish. It's used only once, in Psalm 12:1, where the psalmist laments that the faithful disappear from among men. Since faithfulness requires social cohesion (to establish and retain standards to be faithful to), the disappearance of these faithful was likely due to their density in society, which results from them being spread out."
As we pass through our various pilgrimages in life the Quran says we are supposed to shed details that do not pertain to the Ka like a sculptor removes marble from the statue hidden in the stone. The Quran according to Muhammad is the chisel in the hands of the Psalter.
The Quran is not often viewed as a journal of enlightenment though recall early on Allah told Muhammad it was not a thing to the contrary when He revealed the Umrah.
This is the Book of Allah, there is no doubt in it; it is a guidance for the pious,3 (2:3) for those who believe in the existence of that which is beyond the reach of perception, who establish Prayer and spend out of what We have provided them.
The prior frame God said man was made a fit vessel for perfection and capable of spending another way of stating becoming enriched through its study. The final analysis of this is not complete because Muhammad died very disappointed in humanity as it could not attain to the Isra "straight up" as he had, but we are not all dead yet.

Best Dua For Husband Health in Islam
As wives, we naturally worry about our husbands' health and well-being. One of the most powerful ways to support them is through dua (prayer). In Islam, making dua for husband health is a significant aspect of showing love, concern, and support. This blog will provide you with a comprehensive guide on dua for husband's health, including relevant keywords and subtopics to help you navigate this beautiful aspect of faith.
Dua for Husband's Health and Long Life
Making dua for your husband's health and long life is a beautiful way to show your love and concern. You can ask Allah (SWT) to grant him strength, protect him from illnesses, and bless him with a long and prosperous life. Here is a simple yet powerful dua you can recite:
"O Allah, grant my husband good health, long life, and protect him from all harm and illnesses. Ameen."
Islamic Prayers for Husband's Well-being
There are specific prayers and supplications in Islam that are highly recommended for seeking good health and protection. One such dua is:
"Allahumma inni as'aluka al-'afiyah." (Translation: "O Allah, I ask You for good health.")
This concise yet profound dua can be made regularly to seek Allah's protection and well-being for your husband.
How to Make Dua for Husband Health
When making dua for your husband's health, it is essential to follow certain etiquettes to ensure that your prayers are sincere and heartfelt:
Begin with Praise: Start your dua by praising Allah (SWT) and sending blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Be Specific: Clearly mention your husband's name and specific health concerns.
Show Gratitude: Thank Allah (SWT) for the blessings you have and acknowledge His power and mercy.
Have Full Faith: Trust that Allah (SWT) hears and answers all sincere prayers.
Surahs and Verses for Husband's Health
Reciting specific Surahs and verses from the Quran can also be a source of healing and protection. Surah Al-Fatihah, Surah Al-Ikhlas, Surah Al-Falaq, and Surah An-Nas are particularly known for their protective and healing properties.
Etiquette of Making Dua
When making dua (prayer) for your husband's health or any other supplication, following certain etiquettes can help ensure that your prayers are sincere and heartfelt. Here are the key points to keep in mind-
Perform ablution (wudu) before making dua to ensure you are in a state of physical and spiritual purity.
Face the direction of the Kaaba in Mecca while making dua, as it is considered a sign of unity and direction in worship.
Raise your hands to shoulder level or higher while making dua, symbolizing humility and submission to Allah (SWT).
Approach dua with a humble and sincere heart, fully believing in Allah's power and mercy.
Start your dua by praising Allah (SWT) and sending blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). This can be done by saying "Alhamdulillah" (All praise is due to Allah) and "Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammad" (O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad).
Clearly mention your husband's name and specific health concerns in your dua, asking for Allah’s intervention in precise terms.
Special Times for Dua
Make dua during recommended times when prayers are more likely to be accepted:
The Last Third of the Night: This time is particularly blessed, and it is a special moment for private supplication.
Between the Adhan and Iqamah: The time between the call to prayer and the commencement of prayer is considered a favorable moment for making dua.
After Obligatory Prayers: Supplicating after the five daily prayers is a time when duas are more likely to be accepted.
By adhering to these etiquettes, you can make your dua for your husband's health more meaningful and potent, showing your devotion and trust in Allah (SWT).
Personalizing Your Dua for Your Husband
While there are general duas for health and well-being, personalizing your dua for husband health can make it more meaningful. Mention your husband's specific needs, and speak to Allah (SWT) from your heart. For example:
"O Allah, You are the ultimate healer. Please heal my husband [husband's name] from his ailments, grant him strength, and protect him from all harm. Ameen."
Conclusion
Making dua for your husband's health is a powerful way to support him spiritually and emotionally. It reflects your faith in Allah (SWT) and your deep concern for your husband's well-being. By incorporating these prayers and etiquettes into your daily routine, you can strengthen your bond with your husband and with Allah (SWT). Remember, no dua is too small or too big for Allah (SWT) to hear and respond to.
May Allah (SWT) bless all our husbands with good health, long life, and happiness. Ameen.  You can visit our website to know more about dua for husband health and long life.

🍃🕊🍃 Why should the Ahlulbayt or family of the Prophet (S) be followed?
Who is included in the Ahlul-bayt? A brief text that delves into these questions with textual proofs.
Why Follow the Family of the Prophet (s)?
Verily Allah only desires to keep away the uncleanness from you, O People of the House (Ahl al-Bayt) and to purify you a thorough purifying.
Verse of Purification from Quran (33:33)
Prophet Muhammad (S) was asked by his Companions:
“How should we invoke blessings for you?” … He said:
“Say: ‘O Allah! Send Your blessings on Muhammad and the Family of Muhammad, as You sent Your blessings on Abraham and on the Family of Abraham, for You are the Most Praiseworthy, the Most Glorious.’
Sahih al-Bukhari
(volume 4, book 55, number 589£
The Shi'ah believe that the twin legacy of Prophet Muhammad (s) is the Qur'an and the Ahlulbayt (specific members of his family). The Ahlulbayt are the source for the authentic Sunnah of the Prophet (S). Only by obtaining instruction from both these sources can a Muslim hope to attain true guidance.
Prophet Muhammad’s Legacy
“I am about to answer the call (of death). Verily, I leave behind two precious things (thaqalayn) amongst you: the Book of Allah and my Ahlulbayt. Verily, the two will never separate until they come back to me by the side of the Pond.”
This authentic hadith from the Prophet Muhammad (s) is narrated by over 30 of his Companions and recorded by a large number of Sunni scholars. Some of the famous sources for this hadith include:
• Al-Hakim al-Naysaburi, al-Mustadrak `ala al-Sahihayn (Beirut), volume 3, pages 109-110, 148, and 533). He expressly states that the tradition is sahih in accordance with the criteria of al-Bukhari and Muslim; al-Dhahabi has confirmed his judgment
• Muslim, al-Sahih, (English translation), book 031, numbers 5920-3
• al-Tirmidhi, al-Sahih, volume 5, pages 621-2, numbers 3786 and 3788; volume 2, page 219
• al-Nasa'i, Khasa'is’Ali ibn Abi Talib, hadith number 79
• Ahmad b. Hanbal, al-Musnad, volume 3, pages 14, 17, 26; volume 3, page 26, 59; volume 4, page 371; volume 5, pages 181-2, 189-190
• Ibn al'Athir, Jami` al'usul, volume 1, page 277
• bn Kathir, al-Bidayah wa alnihayah, volume 5, page 209. He quotes al-Dhahabi and declares this hadith to be sahih.
• Ibn Kathir, Tafsir al-Qur’an al-‘Azim , volume 6, page 199
• Nasir al-Din al-Albani, Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahiha (Kuwait: al-Dar al-Salafiyya), volume 4, pages 355-8. He lists many chains of narration that he considers reliable.
There are many more sources for this hadith than it is possible to list here.
Didn't the Prophet (S) say “I leave behind the Book of God and my Sunnah” ?
This is a popular misconception. The fact is that there is no reliable basis for this statement attributed to the Prophet’s (s) Final Sermon. It is completely absent from any of the six Sihah books!!
The version in Malik’s Muwatta’, Ibn Hisham’s Sirat Rasul Allah, and from him in al-Tabari’s Ta’rikh, all suffer from incomplete chains of narration with several links in the chain missing! The other versions that have a full chain of narration (isnad) - of which there are very few - all contain narrators that are unanimously considered to be highly unreliable by leading Sunni scholars of rijal. These remarkable facts can be confirmed by those interested in research by referring to the relevant books.
Clearly, no one is suggesting that the Sunnah of the Prophet (S) should not be followed. As stated before, the Prophet (s) wished for the Muslims to refer to his Ahl al-Bayt as a reliable, pure and inerrant source for his Sunnah.
What is so special about the Family of the Prophet (S)?
When the verse
"(O Muhammad) Say, 'I do not ask for any reward for this (bringing of Allah's message) except the love for the near kinship.'" (42:23)
was revealed, the Muslims asked the Prophet: "Who are these near kin of yours whose love is obligatory upon us?" He replied, "'Ali, Fatima, and their two sons."
• al-Hakim al-Naysaburi, al-Mustadrak `ala al-Sahihayn, volume 2, page 444
• al-Qastallani, Irshad al-Sari Sharh Sahih al-Bukhari, volume 7, page 331
• al-Suyuti, al-Durr al-Manthur, volume 6, pages 6-7
• al-Alusi al-Baghdadi, Ruh al-Ma’ani, volume 25, pages 31-2
The position of truthfulness and virtue of the Ahlulbayt was further confirmed by the Qur’an during the disputation with the Christians of Najran. When the verse was revealed
"But whoever disputes with you in this matter after what has come to you of knowledge, then say: come let us call our sons and your sons and our women and your women and our near people and your near people, then let us be earnest in prayer, and pray for the curse of Allah on the liars." (3:61),
the Prophet (s) called ‘Ali, Fatima, al-Hasan and al-Hussain and said: ‘O Allah, these are my Family (Ahli)’.
• Muslim, al-Sahih, (English translation), book 31, number 5915
• al-Hakim al-Naysaburi, al-Mustadrak `ala al-Sahihayn, volume 3, page 150. He states that it is sahih in accordance with the criteria of al-Bukhari and Muslim
• Ibn Hajar al-‘Asqalani, Fath al-Bari Sharh Sahih al-Bukhari, volume 7, page 60
• al-Tirmidhi, al-Sahih, kitab al-manaqib, volume 5, page 596
• Ahmad b. Hanbal, al-Musnad, volume 1, page 185
• al-Suyuti, History of Khalifas Who Took The Right Way, (London, 1995), page 176
Isn't it enough to show respect towards the Ahlulbayt?
Is it sufficient to just show respect towards the Quran?
Surely the Muslims have no choice but to follow it, as a source of Divine guidance, in all their affairs. The Prophet Muhammad (s) left two things as legacy to the Muslims, and promised that they will never separate from each other until the Day of Judgement. By twinning the Ahlulbayt with the Quran, the Prophet (S) was telling us to not only show respect towards them, but also to take explanations of Islamic doctrine, practices, hadith and tafsir from them.
“Behold! My Ahlulbayt are like the Ark of Noah. Whoever embarked on it was saved, and whoever turned away from it perished”
• al-Hakim al-Naysaburi, al-Mustadrak `ala al-Sahihayn, volume 3, p. 151 and volume 2, page 343. He states that it is sahih in accordance with the criteria of Muslim
• al-Suyuti, al-Durr al-Manthur, volume 1, pages 71-72
• Ibn Hajar al-Makki, al-Sawa’iq al-Muhriqa, page 140. He states that this tradition has come down through many chains of narration that strengthen each other.
Who are included in the Ahl al-Bayt ?
It has been shown that the Family of the Prophet (s) – interchangeably referred to as the Ahl al-Bayt, ‘Itrah and Aal - included his daughter Fatima al-Zahra (sa)’, her husband Imam Ali (as), and their children Imams al-Hasan (as) and al-Hussain (as). The members of this Family of five, with the Prophet Muhammad (S) at its head, were the ones alive at the time the Qur’anic verses regarding their virtue were being revealed to the Prophet (S). However, nine other Imams from the descendants of Imam al-Hussain (as) are also in this chosen Family, the final one being Imam al-Mahdi (ajtf). The Prophet (S) said:
"I and ‘Ali and al-Hasan and al-Hussain and nine of the descendants of al-Hussain are the purified ones and the inerrant." [al-Juwayni, Fara'id al-Simtayn, (Beirut, 1978), page 160. Note that al-Juwayni’s greatness as a scholar of hadith has been attested by al-Dhahabi in Tadhkirat al-Huffaz, volume 4, page 298, and also by Ibn Hajar al-‘Asqalani in al-Durar al-Kaminah, volume 1, page 67]
"I am the chief of the Prophets and ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib is the chief of successors, and after me my successors shall be twelve, the first of them being ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib (as) and the last of them being al-Mahdi." (al-Juwayni, Fara'id al-Simtayn, page 160)
"Al-Mahdi is one of us Ahlulbayt" and "al-Mahdi will be of my family, of the descendants of Fatima (sa)" [Ibn Majah, al-Sunan, volume 2, page 519, numbers 4085-6; Abu Dawud, al-Sunan, volume 2, page 207]
What about the Wives of the Prophet (s)?
The verse of purification "Verily Allah only desires to ... " was revealed to the Prophet (s) in the house of his wife Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her); the Prophet called al-Hasan, al-Hussain, Fatima (sa) and ‘Ali (as), and he gathered them together and covered them with the mantle. Then he said, "O Allah, these are my Ahlulbayt, so keep away every impurity from the Ahlulbayt, and purify them with a perfect purification." Umm Salama said, "Am I with them, O Apostle of Allah?" The Prophet (S) said, "You stay in your place, and you are virtuous."
• al-Tirmidhi, al-Sahih, volume 5, pages 351 and 663
• al-Hakim al-Naysaburi, al-Mustadrak `ala al-Sahihayn, volume 2, page 416. He states that it is sahih in accordance with the criteria of al-Bukhari
• al-Suyuti, al-Durr al-Manthur, volume 5, page 197
The beginning of verse 33:33 and subsequent statements are addressed to the wives of the Prophet (S) as is evident from the feminine pronouns used. However, in the verse of purification, the gender changes to the masculine or mixed gender. This also shows that it was an independent revelation addressed to different individuals.

Praise be to Allah.
Dhikr before sleeping
There are so many sound du‘as for sleeping that were narrated in the Prophet’s Sunnah that Imam an-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) said:
“You should understand that the hadiths and reports concerning this matter are many; what we have mentioned is sufficient for the one who is enabled to act upon them. We refrain from quoting more for fear of tiring the student. Moreover, it is better for a person to do all that is mentioned concerning that, but if that is not possible, he should stick to what he is able to do of the most important thereof.” (Al-Adhkar, p.95)
Hadiths about du`a before sleeping
We will list here the sahih hadiths concerning this matter:
Blowing into the cupped palms
1– Blowing into the cupped palms and reciting the three mu‘awwidhat [surahs seeking refuge with Allah, the last three surahs of the Quran]:
It was narrated from ‘Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that when the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) went to his bed every night, he would put his cupped hands together, then blow into them, then recite into them  Qul Huwa Allahu ahad, Qul a'udhu bi Rabb il-Falaq and Qul a'udhu bi Rabb il-Nas [i.e., the last three surahs of the Quran), then he would wipe his hands over as much of his body as he could, starting with his head and face, and the front part of his body. He would do that three times.
The word translated here as blow refers to spitting lightly and drily. Narrated by al-Bukhari (5017).
Reciting  Ayat al-Kursiy
2- Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said:
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) put me in charge of guarding the collected zakah of Ramadan. Someone came and started to rummage in the food. I took hold of him and said, I will surely take you to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).… He [the one who came and rummaged in the food] said, When you go to your bed, recite Ayat al-Kursiy and you will be protected by Allah, and no devil will come near you until morning. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “He told you the truth even though he is a liar. That was a devil.” Narrated by al-Bukhari (2311).
Reciting the last two verses of Surah al-Baqarah
3– Abu Mas‘ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said:
“Whoever recites the last two verses of Surah al-Baqarah every night, they will suffice him.” Narrated by al-Bukhari (5009) and Muslim (808).
The scholars differed as to what is meant by “they will suffice him.” It was said that it means they will protect him from harm during the night; or they will take the place of praying qiyam on that night. It may be that both are meant. And Allah knows best.
Reciting Surah al-Kafirun
4– Nawfal al-Ashja‘i (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said to me: “Recite ‘Say: O disbelievers’ [al-Kafirun 109], then go to sleep at the end of it, for it is a disavowal of shirk.” Narrated by Abu Dawud (5055); classed as hasan by Ibn Hajar in Nataij al-Afkar (3/61).
Reciting Surah al-Isra
5–  ‘Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: The Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) would not sleep before he recited Bani Israil [al-Isra] and az-Zumar. Narrated by at-Tirmidhi (3402); he said: a hasan hadith. It was classed as hasan by al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar in Nataij al-Afkar (3/65).
Reciting Surah az-Zumar
6– The evidence for this is the hadith quoted above.
Saying ‘Bismika Allahumma amutu wa ahya’
7– Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him) said:
When the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) wanted to sleep, he would say, “Bismika Allahumma amutu wa ahya (In your name, O Allah, I die and I live)”, and when he woke up he would say “Al-hamdu Lillah alladhi ahyana ba’da ma amatana wa ilayhi al-nushur (Praise be to Allah who has brought us back to life after causing us to die, and to Him is the resurrection).” Narrated by al-Bukhari (6324).
Saying ‘Allahumma aslamtu nafsi ilayk…’
8– Al-Bara ibn ‘Azib said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “When you go to bed, do wudu as if for prayer, then lie down on your right side, then say: ‘Allahumma aslamtu nafsi ilayk, wa wajjahtu wajhi ilayk, wa fawwadtu amri ilayk, wa aljatu zahri ilayk, raghbatan wa rahbatan ilayk, la malja wa la manja minka illa ilayk. Amantu bi kitabik alladhi anzalt, wa bi nabiyyik alladhi arsalt (O Allah, I submit myself to You, I turn my face to You, I delegate my affairs to You and I rely totally on You, out of fear and hope of You. There is no refuge or sanctuary from You except in You. I believe in Your Book which You have revealed and in Your Prophet whom You have sent).’ Then if you die, you will have died on the fitrah, (natural state), so make these the last words you speak.” I repeated [these words] to the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and when I reached the words “Amantu bi kitabik alladhi anzalt (I believe in Your Book which You have revealed)”, I said, “wa bi rasulika (and in Your Messenger).” He said: “No; ‘wa bi nabiyyika (and in Your Prophet)’.” Narrated by al-Bukhari (6311) and Muslim (2710).
Saying ‘Bismika Rabbi wada’tu janbi…’
9– Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said:
“When one of you goes to his bed, let him dust off his bed with the inside of his lower garment, for he does not know what came onto it after he left it. Then let him say: Bismika Rabbi wada’tu janbi wa bika arfa’uhu wa in amsakta nafsi farhamha wa in arsaltaha fahfazha bima tuhfaz bihi ‘ibadika al-saalihin (In Your name, my Lord, I lie down, and in Your name I rise. If You should take my soul then have mercy on it, and if You should return my soul then protect it as You protect Your righteous slaves).””. Narrated by al-Bukhari (6320) and Muslim (2714).
Saying Subhan Allah, al-hamdulillah, Allahu akbar
10– It was narrated from ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib that Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) went to the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and asked him for a servant. He said:
“Shall I not tell you of something that is better for you than that? When you go to sleep, glorify Allah (by saying Subhan Allah) thirty-three times, praise Allah (by saying Al-hamdu Lillah) thirty-three times, and magnify Him (by saying Allahu akbar) thirty-four times.” And I have never abandoned [that practice] since then. It was said: Not even on the night of Siffin? He said: Not even on the night of Siffin. Narrated by al-Bukhari (5362) and Muslim (2727).
Saying ‘Allahumma qini ‘adhabaka yawma tab’ath ‘ibadaka’
11– It was narrated from Hafsah (may Allah be pleased with her) that when the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) wanted to sleep, he would put his right hand under his right cheek, then he would say: “Allahumma qini ‘adhabaka yawma tab’ath ‘ibadaka (O Allah, protect me from Your punishment on the Day You resurrect Your slaves)” three times. Narrated by Abu Dawud (5045); classed as sahih by al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar in Fath al-Bari (11/119).
Saying ‘Al-hamdu Lillah alladhi at’amana wa saqana…’
12– Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that when the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) went to his bed, he said: “Al-hamdu Lillah alladhi at’amana wa saqana wa kafana wa awana fakam mimman la kafi lahu wa la muwi (Praise be to Allah, Who fed us and gave us to drink, and Who is sufficient for us and has sheltered us, for how many have none to suffice them or shelter them).” Narrated by Muslim (2715).
Saying ‘Allahumma khalaqta nafsi wa anta tawaffaha…’
13- ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar narrated that he instructed a man, when he went to his bed, to say:
“Allahumma khalaqta nafsi wa anta tawaffaha, laka mamatuha wa mahyaya. In ahyaytaha fahfazha wa in amattaha faghfir laha. Allahumma inni asaluka al-‘afiyah (O Allah, You have created my soul and it is for You to take it in death. Its death and its life are in Your hand. If You cause it to live then protect it and if You cause it to die then forgive it. O Allah, I ask You to keep me safe and sound).”
A man said to him: Did you hear that from ‘Umar? He said: From one who is better than ‘Umar, from the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him). Narrated by Muslim (2712).
Saying ‘Allahumma Rabb as-samawati wa Rabb al-ard…’
14– Suhayl said: Abu Salih used to tell us, if one of us wanted to sleep, to lie down on his right side and say:
“Allahumma Rabb as-samawati wa Rabb al-ard wa Rabb al-‘arsh il-‘azim, Rabbana wa Rabba kulli shayin, Faliq al-habb wa’l-nawa wa munzil at-Tawrati wa’l-Injili wa’l-Furqan, a‘udhu bika min sharri kulli shayin anta akhidhun bi nasiyatihi. Allahumma anta al-awwalu fa laysa qablaka shayun, wa anta al-akhiru fa laysa ba’daka shayun, wa anta az-zahiru fa laysa fawqaka shayun wa anta al-batin fa laysa dunaka shayun. Iqdi ‘anna al-dayna wa aghnina min al-faqri (O Allah, Lord of the heavens, Lord of the earth and Lord of the mighty Throne, our Lord and Lord of all things, Splitter of the seed and the date stone, Revealer of the Tawrat (Torah), the Injil (Gospel) and the Furqan (Quran), I seek refuge in You from the evil of every creature that You seize by the forelock [i.e., have full control over them]. O Allah, You are the First and there is nothing before You; You are the Last and there is nothing after You. You are the Manifest (al-Zahir) and there is nothing above You; You are the Hidden (al-Batin) and there is nothing beyond You. Settle our debt and spare us from poverty).” He narrated that from Abu Hurayrah, from the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him). Narrated by Muslim (2713).
Saying ‘Allahumma inni a‘udhu bi wajhika al-karimi…’
15– It was narrated from ‘Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) that he used to say when going to his bed: “Allahumma inni a‘udhu bi wajhika al-karimi wa kalimatik at-tammati min sharri ma anta akhidhun bi nasiyatihi; Allahumma anta takshif al-maghram wa’l-matham; Allahumma la yuhzamu junduka wa la yukhlafu wa‘duka wa la yanfa‘u dha’l-jaddi minka al-jadd. Subhanaka wa bihamdika (O Allah, I seek refuge in Your noble countenance and Your perfect words from the evil of all things that You seize by the forelock [i.e., have full control over them]. O Allah, You remove debt and sin. O Allah, Your troops will not be defeated, Your promise will not be broken, nor can the richness of a rich man avail him anything before You, glory and praise be to You).” Narrated by Abu Dawud (5052); classed as sahih by an-Nawawi in al-Adhkar (p. 111) and by Ibn Hajar in Nataij al-Afkar (2/384).
Saying ‘Bismillahi wada‘tu janbi…’
16– It was narrated from Abu’l-Azhar al-Anmari that when the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) went to his bed at night, he said:
“Bismillahi wada‘tu janbi, Allahumma ighfir li dhanbi wa akhsi shaytani wa fukka rihani waj‘alni fi’n-nadi al-a‘la (In the name of Allah I lie down. O Allah, forgive me my sins, suppress my shaytan, ransom me and join me with the highest assembly [meaning the angels on high]). Narrated by Abu Dawud (5054); classed as hasan by an-Nawawi in al-Adhkar (p. 125) and by al-Haafiz in Nataij al-Afkar (3/60).

Iyyaka Na'budu wa Iyyaka Nas'ta'een.
Why Does Imran Khan Cite this Verse as his Motto?
This is the verse that Imran Khan recites at the beginning of all his public rallies. Why has he chosen this line from more than 6000 verses from the Quran?  First, the translation: “You Alone we worship, and You Alone we ask for help”.  It is also important to study the context of this verse. The verse forms part of Surah Al Fatiha, a complete dua or supplication that almost all Muslims know by heart and also recite daily. It has been named Umm al-Qur'an, the Mother of the Qur'an, and Umm al-Kitab, the Mother of the Book, according to the opinion of the majority. This reference has been found in Saheeh Ahadees confirmed by Tirmidhi and Bukhari.
The verse is a beautiful reiteration of the concept of Tawheed, the Oneness of The Almighty, The Ever Supreme. Imran recites it right at the start as a prelude to what he believes — with utmost conviction — to be the cornerstone of our new paradigm in Pakistan. The “tabdeeli” or change that he talks about is not merely an outward reflection of huge gatherings at his jalsas or the introduction of a third popular party in Pakistan where he talks about his policies, etc., but a reflection of his own inward beliefs and thought process that he wishes to inculcate into the minds of his listeners.
“You alone we worship”.  In the absence of the right direction, or in the presence of confused opinions, people in Pakistan have created many demigods. These come in different shapes and forms, from the ill-reputed feudals to bank balances, to our jobs, cars, women, etc. It was important that somebody stood up and “reformed” the concept of worship and its worthiness. I would define ‘reform’ here as “ to bring something back to its original form”. Reformation, the process of reform, usually takes places under radical circumstances. Any system that transcends into chaos requires a jolt in order to rearrange the molecules around its nucleus and history also tells us the same about the dynamics of societal reform. This is the tabdeeli Imran seeks. First of all, we need to change our focal point of worship, our true north. When all our focus is converged to a point where we are not really “scared” of anything else except whom we worship and revere, we would attain a transformation of existence, a higher plane or being.
This reformation would then help us to consolidate, rearrange, and then “transform”; an adjective used to denote something that acquires a higher stature whilst remaining in its natural shape and form.
The concept is equally applicable for non-muslims as being consumed by material or outward influences is damaging nevertheless. The overbearing septic tank of an outwardly obsessed progeny of Adam has now started spreading its foul all over the place and we can witness its aftermath.
“And You Alone we ask for help”. The “You Alone” has been repeated here for a reason. It could also have been said, “You alone we worship and ask for help”. But this time the idea was to explicitly, imperatively set the notion of Tawheed, a reverberation that should boom in our heads every time we recite the verse. This part of the verse also complements the concept of “Tawakkal” or putting one’s trust in the Almighty, no one else, period. However, no guarantees are forthcoming. You still have to strive hard for what you are after.
Reformation and the resultant transformation starts from within. It’s an individualistic concept the after-effects of which multiply to bring about the change at large. “Indeed, Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves”. (Surat Ar-Ra`d (The Thunder), Verse 11)
Iqbal’s khudii also has its root in the same concept when he says:
“Khuda ne aaj tak us qaum ki haalat nahiin badli Na ho jisko khyaal aap apni haalat ke badalne ka.
Interestingly, Imran refers to the above a lot as well.
In one of his interviews, he mentions that there are three types of strengths, physical strength, the strength of good character, and spiritual strength. He says that the strongest of these is the spiritual (roohani) strength as its prowess is unlimited owing to the source it gets its nourishment from.
I endorse this view that is clearly reflected in Iyyaka Na'budu wa Iyyaka Nas'ta'een. I pray that he comes out victorious on the night of the 11th of May, I pray that his victory be a source of paradigm shift for our homeland, I pray that all the prayers of countless Pakistanis are heard this time, I pray that his ideology transforms us to be an envious nation in the world, InshaAllah.

Dua when in debt #4

The Prophet (ﷺ) said to his companions, “Is it difficult for any of you to recite one third of the Qur’an in one night?” This suggestion was difficult for them so they said, “Who among us has the power to do so, O Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ)?” Allah Apostle replied: ” Allah (the) One, the Self-Sufficient Master Whom all creatures need.’ (Surat Al-Ikhlas 112.1 – to the End) is equal to one third of the Qur’an.” (Reference: Sahih Al-Bukhari 5015)
Translation:
In the name of Allah, The Most Gracious and The Most Merciful
1. Say, “He is Allah, [who is] One, Allah
2. Allah, the Eternal Refuge.
3. He neither begets nor is born,
4. Nor is there to Him any equivalent.”

Narrated `Aisha: Whenever Allah's Apostle became sick, he would recite Mu'awwidhat (Surat Al-Falaq and Surat An- Nas) and then blow his breath over his body. When he became seriously ill, I used to recite (these two Suras) and rub his hands over his body hoping for its blessings.
(Sahih Bukhari: Hadith No. 5016)

Al-Nas (mankind):
Surah Nas is the meccan surah and the 114th and last chapter (sūrah) of the Qur'an.
Narrated 'Aisha: Whenever the Prophet (saws) went to bed every night, he used to cup his hands together and blow over it after reciting Surat Al-Ikhlas, Surat Al-Falaq and Surat An-Nas, and then rub his hands over whatever parts of his body he was able to rub, starting with his head, face and front of his body. He used to do that three times.

1. Say: "I seek refuge with the Lord of An-Nas,'' 2. "The King of An-Nas,'' 3. "The God of An-Nas,'' 4. "From the evil of the whisperer who withdraws.'' 5. "Who whispers in the breasts of An-Nas.'' 6. "Of Jinn and An-Nas. These are three attributes from the attributes of the Lord, the Mighty and Majestic. They are lordship, sovereignty and divinity. Thus, He is the Lord of everything, the King of everything and the God of everything. All things are created by Him, owned by Him, and subservient to Him. Therefore, He commands whoever is seeking protection to seek refuge with the One Who has these attributes from the evil of the whisperer who withdraws. This (the whisperer) is the devil that is assigned to man. For verily, there is not any of the Children of Adam except that he has a companion that beautifies wicked deeds for him. This devil will go to any lengths to confuse and confound him. The only person who is safe is He Whom Allah protects. It is confirmed in the Sahih that he (the Prophet ) said, «مَا مِنْكُمْ مِنْ أَحَدٍ إِلَّا قَدْ وُكِّلَ بِهِ قَرِينُهُ» (There is not a single one of you except that his companion (a devil) has been assigned to him.) They (the Companions) said, "What about you, O Messenger of Allah'' He replied, «نَعَمْ، إِلَّا أَنَّ اللهَ أَعَانَنِي عَلَيْهِ فَأَسْلَمَ، فَلَا يَأْمُرُنِي إِلَّا بِخَيْرٍ» (Yes. However, Allah has helped me against him and he has accepted Islam. Thus, he only commands me to do good.) It is also confirmed in the Two Sahihs from Anas, who reported the story of Safiyyah when she came to visit the Prophet while he was performing I`tikaf, that he went out with her during the night to walk her back to her house. So, two men from the Ansar met him (on the way). When they saw the Prophet , they began walking swiftly. So, the Messenger of Allah said, «عَلَى رِسْلِكُمَا، إِنَّهَا صَفِيَّةُ بِنْتُ حُيَيَ» (Slow down! This is Safiyyah bint Huyay!) They said, "Glory be to Allah, O Messenger of Allah!'' (Verily, Shaytan runs in the Son of Adam like the running of the blood. And verily, I feared that he might cast something into your hearts -- or he said -- evil.) Sa`id bin Jubayr reported that Ibn `Abbas said concerning Allah's statement, ﴿الْوَسْوَاسِ الْخَنَّاسِ﴾ (The whisperer (Al-Waswas) who withdraws.) "The devil who is squatting (perched) upon the heart of the Son of Adam. So when he becomes absentminded and heedless he whispers. Then, when he remembers Allah he withdraws.'' Mujahid and Qatadah also said this. Al-Mu`tamir bin Sulayman reported that his father said, "It has been mentioned to me that Shaytan is Al-Waswas. He blows into the heart of the Son of Adam when he is sad and when he is happy. But when he (man) remembers Allah, Shaytan withdraws.'' Al-`Awfi reported from Ibn `Abbas; ﴿الْوَسْوَاسِ﴾ (The whisperer.) "He is Shaytan. He whispers and then when he is obeyed, he withdraws.'' As for Allah's saying; ﴿الَّذِى يُوَسْوِسُ فِى صُدُورِ النَّاسِ ﴾ (Who whispers in the breasts of An-Nas.) Is this specific for the Children of Adam as is apparent, or is it general, including both mankind and Jinns There are two views concerning this. This is because they (the Jinns) are also included in the usage of the word An-Nas (the people) in most cases. Ibn Jarir said, "The phrase Rijalun min Al-Jinn (Men from the Jinns) has been used in reference to them, so it is not strange for the word An-Nas to be applied to them also.'' Then Allah says, ﴿مِنَ الْجِنَّةِ وَالنَّاسِ ﴾ (Of Jinn and An-Nas.) Is this explanatory of Allah's statement, ﴿الَّذِى يُوَسْوِسُ فِى صُدُورِ النَّاسِ ﴾ (Who whispers in the breasts of An-Nas.) Then, Allah explains this by saying, ﴿مِنَ الْجِنَّةِ وَالنَّاسِ ﴾ (Of Jinn and An-Nas.) This is supportive of the second view. It has also been said that Allah's saying, ﴿مِنَ الْجِنَّةِ وَالنَّاسِ ﴾ (Of Jinn and An-Nas) is an explanation of who is it that whispers into the breasts of mankind from the devils of
