Jiah Khan changed her name to Nafisa Khan after Gia, a movie starring Angelina Jolie (1998). She was 16 when Mahesh Bhatt offered her the lead role in 2004 for Tumsa Nahin Dekha. But Jiah backed out from the role as she felt the character was too mature for her. Thereafter she starred in Nishabd, her Bollywood debut in 2007, which was a controversial film for its storyline of an older man falling for a young girl, despite being married. The movie was directed by Ram Gopal Verma, and Amitabh Bachchan played her love interest.

The plot of an illicit affair was compared to the Hollywood classic Lolita of 1962. However, the character portrayal by Jiah Khan seemed genuine as she exuded attitude, confidence, and sex appeal. For this, she even was nominated for her performance as the ‘Best Debutant’. Then she landed with Ghajini in 2008, which was a super hit movie starring Amir Khan. The movie was a remake of a 2005 film by A R Murugadoss, of the same name, which had the actor Surya of the fame 'Raktha Charitra'.

Before the release of Ghajini, there were rumors that Jiah Khan is the step-sister of Amir Khan, as the latter’s father had worked in Dulha Bikta Hai with Rabiya, Jiah’s mother. But the rumors were ended after clarification. Then the actress moved on to Chance Pe Dance by Ken Ghosh in 2010. The movie starred Shahid Kapoor. She was then replaced by Genelia D’Souza after shooting a good number of scenes for the project.

However, she starred in Housefull, a hit comedy film in the same year. Jiah Khan was the supporting actress in Housefull, which contained a huge star cast. Sajid Khan was the director of the movie. The film starred big names such as Deepika Padukone, Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Arjun Rampal, and Lara Dutta. Here, Jiah did the role of Akshay’s wife. But the film, unfortunately, remained the last one where Jiah was seen on the big screen. Because on 3 June 2013, the actress reportedly died of suicide and was found dead in Juhu, Mumbai, in her flat. She was found hanging and a suicide note was recovered after a probe by CBI. Jiah was too young at that time and passed away at the tender age of 25.

Nirbhaya case - Eight years later, parents say will fight for justice in sexual assault cases

Eight years after a harrowing incident changed her life and the uphill battle that followed to ensure that her daughter's culprits were punished, Nirbhaya's mother Asha Devi has bravely resolved to fight for bringing justice to survivors and victims of sexual assault.

"My fight for justice isn't over with the hanging of my daughter's convicts and will continue for getting justice for other rape victims as well," she said.

On the intervening night of December 16 and 17, 2012, a 23-year-old physiotherapy intern, who later came to be known as Nirbhaya -- the fearless one, was raped and brutally assaulted in a moving bus in south Delhi by six men including a minor before being thrown out on the road in a savagely injured state.

She died a few days later in a Singapore hospital where she was shifted for life-saving treatment.

Four of the six accused were convicted and hanged on March 20 this year. One of them, Ram Singh, allegedly committed suicide in the Tihar Jail days after the trial began in the case and another, a juvenile, was released in 2015 after spending three years in a correctional home.

"My daughter may have got justice but the struggle killed us everyday. Every time the hearing was posted further, a part of me broke down but I gathered courage," Devi said.

"It took eight years to get justice, imagine what happens to those victims where cases are not highlighted or there aren't enough evidences. My fight will continue for them," she said on eighth anniversary of the gruesome gangrape that led to widespread outrage and massive protests by thousands of people across the country.

Devi said the entire nation followed her daughter's case and is witness to the tactics the defence lawyers used and the kind of immunity the accused got for a very long time "in name of human rights".

"I pledge to keep fighting for swift justice delivery to rape victims," she said.

Mukesh Singh (32), Pawan Gupta (25), Vinay Sharma (26) and Akshay Kumar Singh (31) were executed on March 20 for the savage assault on the young woman.

After raping and brutalising her, they dumped her on the road and left for dead on the cold winter night. Her male friend who was with her in the bus was also severely beaten and thrown out along with her.

Nirbhaya's father, who also joined an online petition which was started by NGOs Save the Children and Yuva to mark the eighth anniversary of the gangrape case, said "the fight is not over yet".

"You have probably never heard from me. Today, I felt it was necessary for you to hear my voice. My name is Badrinath Singh. But since the night of 16th December, 2012, I am known as 'Nirbhaya's father'. This is how I will be known for the rest of my life," he said in a statement on Tuesday.

Eight years ago, when "my daughter was snatched away from us in the most brutal way, crowds led by women came out on the streets" and they made "my family's fight their fight for justice", he said.

"I thought this case would change us as a country for good. But when I turn on the news, there is a new case of another daughter being brutally assaulted every day. Nothing has changed," Nirbhaya's father said.

Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput was found hanging at his Mumbai home, police said today. He was 34. The popular actor was recently seen in the film "Chhichhore" and his last appearance was in the Netflix film "Drive". He had put up a moving post when his former manager Disha Salian was found dead a few days ago. "It's such devastating news," he wrote on Instagram. The actor is survived by his father and five sisters. He was the youngest among them. His last post on Instagram was dedicated to his mother.

Early reports suggested that the 'Kedarnath' actor committed suicide by hanging himself in his Bandra home in Mumbai. Last week, Disha Salian, who was also Rajput's former manager had committed suicide. The event management executive had jumped off from a 14-storied building in Mumbai's Malad area.

The 34-year-old had been saddened by her death.

Rajput, who became a household name with his hit television series "Pavitra Rishta", debuted in films with the critically acclaimed "Kai Po Che!" based on Chetan Bhagat's bestselling book "The Three Mistakes of My Life". He also played the eponymous role of Detective Byomkesh Bakshy in the 2015 film. The movie catapulted Sushant Singh Rajput into the big league and he went on to do several big-ticket films. He also played MS Dhoni in the former skipper's biopic, for which he was nominated for film awards. Rajput was born in Patna. One of his sisters, Mitu Singh, is a state-level cricketer. He studied engineering and was a National Olympiad Winner in Physics.

After he started participating in theatre and dance, he rarely had time for studies, resulting in several backlogs which ultimately made him leave DCE. He completed only three years of the four-year course before dropping out to pursue an acting career. A shell-shocked film industry posted tributes on Twitter. New Delhi: A Delhi court on Monday ordered that the four convicts in the Nirbhaya gangrape-murder case be hanged at 6 am on March 3 after it issued fresh death warrants, saying deferring the execution further would be ldquo;sacrilegiousrdquo; to the rights of the victim. The court directed that the four convicts mdash; Mukesh Kumar Singh, 32, Pawan Gupta, 25, Vinay Kumar Sharma, 26, and Akshay Kumar, 31, mdash; be hanged by the neck at 6 am on March 3 until they are dead. It is for the third time that the warrants were issued against them. ldquo;It is hereby directed that the warrants, vide order dated January 7, 2020 in respect of the convicts Mukesh, Pawan, Akshay and Vinay shall now be carried out by causing the condemned convicts to be hanged until they are dead on March 3 at 6 am,rdquo; said additional sessions judge Dharmender Rana. nbsp; The judge noted the death warrants were earlier issued on January 7 and the execution was later deferred twice mdash; on January 17 and January 31. ldquo;Now deferring it any further would be sacrilegious to the rights of the victim for expeditious justice,rdquo; he said. The fresh death warrant was issued after Delhirsquo;s Tihar jail authorities informed the trial court that three of the four convicts had exhausted all legal options and none of them have any correspondence pending at the moment. Pawan is the only convict who has not filed a curative petition mdash; the last legal remedy available to a person which is decided in-chamber mdash; or mercy plea before the President. The trial court said: ldquo;There is only two possible inferences for such indolence: 1) either convict Pawan is satisfied with the verdict of the Supreme Court; or 2) he is simply interested in delaying court proceedings. In either case, he cannot claim that the execution of the sentence needs to be delayed further.rdquo; The trial court noted that the Delhi high court had given ldquo;one more opportunityrdquo; to Pawan, ldquo;unambiguously clarifying to exercise his rights within a week, failing which requisite action shall be initiated without any further delayrdquo;. The court said Pawan cannot be allowed to defeat the ends of justice by simply opting to remain indolent. All four convicts have already exhausted the one week allowed by the high court to exercise all their legal options and will need to go to the Supreme Court to get an extension. The Title Track: Introducing Akshay Kumar As Sub-Inspector Arjan Sethi Cuttputlli (2022) Synopsis: Gruesome murders of teenage girls plague the hill station of Kasauli. Every time a girl gets kidnapped, her mutilated corpse tightly wrapped in plastic sheets is found along with a Cinderella doll’s head with the same kind of mutilations. Arjan Sethi (Akshay Kumar) is an aspiring filmmaker who is eager on contacting various established filmmakers to have his story converted into a film. But all in vain! The incident showcasing Payal’s brutal murder where her dead body was discovered by Arjan and Narinder inside the boot space of their car was emotionally devastating. The cute little Payal who was the apple of her maternal uncle Arjan’s eye was suddenly no more! Two days later after Payal’s kidnapping, Arjan saw a piece of plastic sticking out of the boot space of their family car and when he opened the boot, he found Payal’s mutilated corpse. The murderer had packed her dead body tightly in plastic sheets, and left it inside her family’s car! Her parents were dejected after her murder. Her mother Seema (Hrishita Bhatt) was completely broken. So her father Narinder decided to take his wife out somewhere where she would be able to overcome the grief of the loss of her daughter. The Character Development Was Marvelous! The murder-mystery-based screenplay of Cuttputlli by Aseem Arora was amazing coupled with astounding character development. The best part about the screenplay is that it didn’t introduce all the characters at once but gradually as the story proceeded. The villain Christopher Fernandez (played by Joshua LeClair) who was the actual psychopathic serial killer made his entry much later where he was disguised as his deceased mother Agnes Fernandez. An interesting part of the story is that Akshay here is no ordinary cop. He was in fact an aspiring filmmaker who used to write movie scripts. However, all his stories got rejected by filmmakers and with the help of his brother-in-law Narinder, he joined the police force. After joining the police force, he cleverly tracked down the psychopath serial killer using his crime-mystery story formulating skills. He was a fiction writer, and he used his intellect to educate his fellow cops about the apt method to track down and locate the murderer. He was more like a detective than a cop. One of the characters in the movie surprised me. Trust me; he was a truly disgusting creature. He was Payal’s maths teacher, Purushottam Tomar (Sujith Shanker). Purushottam was a pedophile. Whenever any girl in his class used to score low grades in math, he would hold back that particular girl after the school got over and force her into fellatio as punishment. The shocking scene came when Payal failed in maths. She was just about to forcefully perform fellatio on his private parts when her uncle Arjan barged into the classroom and grabbed hold of him. He beat the hell out of Purushottam and destroyed his private part by violent kicks. Following this, Arjan addressed him as a murder suspect. Evidence of murder was found at Purushottam’s home based on which Arjan and his brother-in-law Niranjan initially thought that he was the one who was actually committing the psychopathic murders of teenage girls in the town. Rocking Performances I must say, Akshay Kumar, the daring “Khiladi” of Bollywood has rocked the show in Cuttputlli despite his age. At 55, Akshay looks strikingly fit and has well fitted in the role of a 25-year-old dude! He and his co-star Rakul Preet Singh share great on-screen chemistry and despite the huge age difference between the two, they appeared quite convincing together. But the sad truth is that even if you maintain your body and looks while you are aging, you cannot hide your face! Your face will surely highlight your true age. So in spite of Akshay’s marvelous performance, I feel that he could have looked even more convincing in his role if the makeup artists would have considered covering the sagging skin and wrinkles on his aging face. Then he would have appeared as a real 25-year-old guy. This is just what I personally feel. No offense! Sargun Mehta as the headstrong police station head, Gudia Parmar appeared irritating but she carried out her role immaculately. Gudia Parmar was not ready to listen to any of Arjan’s advice regarding how to track down the serial killer. Had she listened to him before, the serial killer could have been tracked down much earlier and Arjan’s niece Payal would not have been kidnapped and murdered. After the loss of Payal, she shed her ego and decided to accompany Arjan in his quest of locating the serial killer. She was a mother as well and had a young daughter at home. She feared for her daughter’s safety. Joshua LeClair deserves a standing ovation. He has carried out the roles of Christopher Fernandez and his old mother Agnes Fernandez impressively. He indeed had to go through a lot of makeovers to look like the progeria patient Christopher as well as his odd-looking old mother Agnes. Chandrachur Singh is a few years younger than Akshay but here he plays his elder brother-in-law! I must say, looks do matter! Akshay, as he has maintained a slim and trim physique, has been portrayed to be much younger than Chandrachur Singh in this movie. However, Chandrachur Singh and Hrishita Bhatt did live up to their characters of Payal’s parents. Child actress Renaye Tejani as Payal Singh appeared cute and loving, and she was indeed the apple of her uncle Arjan’s eye. When she was brutally murdered, Arjan roared out, tracked, and killed the serial killer Christopher Fernandez once and for all. Justice is done on spot, not behind bars! Beautiful Landscapes Of Kasauli The entire filmmaking of Cuttputlli was at the majestic hill station of Kasauli. I have personally visited the hill station, and I must agree to the fact that the landscapes there are breathtaking. The beautiful mountain scenery and landscapes coupled with the retro-style buildings made Cuttputlli’s cinematography by Rajeev Ravi strikingly awesome. Even if Joshua LeClair gave a stand-up performance in Cuttputlli, I didn’t find his makeup as his mother “Agnes” to be convincing enough. I mean there was no actress who played Agnes throughout the movie. It was Joshua LeClair all by himself. In whatever sequences he played Agnes, he didn’t appear convincing enough as an old lady. Upon seeing the old lady’s robust chiseled masculine face and big hairy arms, you will also probably agree with me. Anyone would make out that this is no old lady but a man disguised as one! The Verdict: The story of Cuttputlli has certain instances which will thrill you, and horrify you as well. For instance, when a teenage girl got kidnapped, a mutilated doll’s head was left behind by the killer. After a few days, the corpse of the kidnapped girl would be found tightly wrapped up in plastic sheets, and the same kind of mutilations would be found on the corpse. It was gruesome! Cut marks all over the face, hair pulled out, one eye was taken out; I must tell you that if you are weak-hearted, you would never dare to look at the corpses. There are literally no action scenes in Cuttputlli. This is a murder mystery where cop Arjan Sethi and his team have a major role to play in tracking down Christopher. However, the ending scene makes up for all that lost action! As Arjan tracked down Christopher in his hideout while he was preparing to murder another girl he had kidnapped, what would you expect the ending to be like? You got that right! It is Akshay Kumar versus Joshua LeClair, a violent one-on-one fight! LeClair as Christopher removed his makeup of Agnes and challenged Akshay, “Let’s see what you got!” LeClair was fast as lightning during the fight and proved too heavy on the aging Akshay. The climax showed Akshay getting beaten up, pinned down, and choked by LeClair till he struggles and somehow manages to stab LeClair multiple times to death. Akshay almost had it, and I thought this would have been probably the end of our dear old Akki in the movie! Anyways, jokes apart because that would never have been the case. The songs in Cuttputlli are not at all appealing. However, the track “Laapata” by singers Dev Negi and Payal Dev aroused my interest on account of its mystery tune.
