i maintain that the reason goro sucks at cooking is bc he absolutely cannot for the life of him experiment with it. he can follow instructions fine but if there's vague terms or if something says to eyeball it he's completely lost. that, and goro cannot stand having to do multiple things at once and will absolutely burn a building down because he wasn't keeping a close enough eye on the stove. this is what makes akira so good at cooking, on the other hand--he thrives at experimenting and taste testing and the chaos of the kitchen is something he lives for.

HOWEVER. goro is very good at following a step-by-step guide. he is extremely meticulous. he is capable of being precise with measurements. so once he's introduced to it, goro becomes an incredible baker. it even becomes therapeutic, a method of relaxing after a long day. akira hates baking for the same reasons goro loves it, but loves having yummy tasty treats, so baking becomes goro's forte.

unfortunately, being the friend who brings baked goods to every hangout means goro is not escaping the has-a-sweet-tooth allegations anytime soon.

Pet peve of mine is ppl who genuinely call Akechi stupid. Like yes he makes some Real stupid mistakes & yes he faked most of his "solved" cases. But his wit in Sae's palace is real, & also he's like top of his school lol u can't forget that.

honestly I think the pancake scene is genius. like sure, akechi is a kinda predictable villain, but the pancake scene is actually really fucking good.

it's such a downplayed scene. he introduces himself before his main introduction, as many of the cast does. if you haven't paid super close attention to npc convos, you likely haven't even heard his name come up. so, all you have is his reaction to madarame's confession and him talking to sae in a cutscene (which I've never seen someone catch in a first playthru)

and what happens is really easy to miss if you aren't paying close attention. which, why would you be?? it's a casual conversation about an amusement park! there's no reason to anticipate a major character showing up and dropping a major hint about the villain's identity!

even then, morgana says 'pancake' quite a bit before akechi shows up. meaning it's kinda easy to assume someone else must've said it too, which is clearly what happened in-game.

but ofc, if you do notice it, it's such a major hint that sets the tone for his whole character. what is he hiding? is he the black mask? did you just forget saying pancakes??

Chapter 1 How it began...

Warning:A bit NSFW but not quite. Also abusive behavior.

Notes:There are a lot of random stuff I pulled out of thin air that has nothing to do with the Au I did it because I was up doing this at 2 am.

Akechi looks around this new place as he tries to talk with others. Akechi notices a new face

Akechi:"What brings you to this place, may i ask?"

???:"You are totally oblivious to what and where you are?" Akechi looks with worry as he finds himself locked in a small dog cage.

Akechi:"Are you with The Phantom Thieves? I will not allow you to take my heart! Raises fist You will need to take my life if you wish to even attempt to hurt me! I am the Second Coming of the Detective Prince, I will not let you get away with these heinous crimes!"

???:"You're right im Akira the leader, if you are asking why you are in a cage you are going to be used for entertainment. Not by the Phantom Thieves but other bad people."

Akechi looks with confusion "Entertainment? But, what kind of entertainment, I have a feeling I will not like what you have to say." Akechi looks very worried

Akira:"I really don't know. My job is to be a racer for the rest of my life."

Akechi looks with more confusion

Akechi:"Racer? Like car race?" Looks more worried thinking if he is going to die in a car crash or be used like fodder in a car chase.

Akira:"No I have to race on all fours by force I did not chose this."

Akechi:"Wait what do you mean? You have to race on all fours like a dog? That's terrible! If that is the case, you must be a Phantom Thief! I can help you escape I know a way we can both go free. Are you interested in what i must offer?"

A strange man walks in with a leash and a cage with a race number on it.

Akechi looks shocked and appalled at the situation

Akechi:"Please man, don't make this poor innocent man do this inhumane act. I have to get out of this cage! Hops around the cage like a caged animal trying to grab the man's arm, screaming Please don't make him do this terrible crime he doesn't deserve this!"

The man grabs Akira by the tail and throws him into the cage taking him somewhere.

Akechi looks with horror and anguish

Akechi:"please! Please! Please! Let him go! He doesn't deserve this! He hasn't committed any crime to deserve this cruel punishment, in fact he is a victim of many heinous crimes! This cruel act of using innocent people for entertainment to make money is appalling! I demand to speak with your higher ups!"

Quick snippet from 10/26. In case you ever wondered whether Akechi knows Mona talks all along... watch him here, and listen to him. At first he's on script—entirely in control even when he talks about how he was supposedly nearly murdered by himself. It's the same tone he uses on the news. He's gone over this speech a dozen times.

Then Morgana talks, and while Akechi does react, he's still acting. He's still on script, prepared and practiced. The portrait looks shocked, but the model is just standing there, playing detective....

... until Ann steps in with "our friend who taught us about the Metaverse":

He jumps back so fast I didn't have time to load the textbox, lol. "What do you MEAN you had a MAGIC CAT GUIDE, the FUCK??"

Of course he knew Mona talks. How does he expose himself, right away on 6/9?—he hears Mona talking about pancakes. He had to be close enough to hear Mona, the cat. So it's not Mona talking that shocks him, but the revelation that Joker and the rest had help, had a guide from the very beginning, when he did not.

And you can hear his voice change register at that moment. That careful, controlled, rehearsed tone goes out of the window. He talks faster, he pitches up, he's breathless, without a script. He is, in short, more real. And he immediately asks Mona a question:

He really hasn't solved that mystery; he really wants to know. In fact, he has to know—about the difference in their methods and his own, which he just can't figure out....

There's a little of that high-pitched breathiness when he talks about his awakening, too. I'd say that's pretty much how it happened way back when, and he's adapted the story a little. "I can't die here... I need to determine the truth"—of course he did. The same truth that his "sole interest is uncovering"—the truth about Shido and himself.

What about that image of the killer, standing in the entrance to Okumura's Palace? Well, sometimes people think this is a photo, but it's not—Akechi doesn't produce any more photos, he just continues with his story. So this is presumably what Akechi pictures in his mind at that moment. This is his self-image, God help him:

Lastly, here's an incredulous Akechi with a bonus Futaba glaring at him. Don't neglect the models—they really repay close examination, and the face animation is often incredibly detailed. And as for whether Akechi is lying or not at any given moment—it's often easier to tell than you think.

Cuddling and what they're up for

Ren/Akira is mostly indifferent with it, but bro is down for anything. Snuggles? Sure. Basic cuddles? Of course. Lap cuddles? Fuck it why not. And he's damn good at it too. Protagonist power goes nuts.

Ryuji is kinda nervous about it at first but he gets used to it. Sleeps on your shoulder at least weekly and at most after five weeks.

(Platonic) Morgana is a cat. Daily.

Ann is the type of girl to say she likes to cuddle and only knows basic cuddling. You hold her and she holds you. She's alright at it, but it's her voice that does it in. It just feels so soothing.

Yusuke sees cuddling as an art form once you introduce him to it. You two will cuddle in the most extravagant poses for no reason. Not much else to it.

Makoto is incredibly inexperienced and incredibly nervous. But when she learns you will get lap cuddles all day. She likes to play with your hair and it's instantly relaxing.

Futaba is just all over you, she loves it. Whether it's because she had a stressful day or what have you. You are always the big spoon, no objections. She falls asleep instantly.

Haru is avid in cuddling. She reads a lot of romance books so she knows a thing or two. She's strong, but gentle. She is always the big spoon and whispers sweet nothings in your ear. She'll ask if you want her to give you head scratches or anything while she holds you. 10/10.

Akechi is... an interesting case. Pancake boy Akechi is always willing, but Murder Death Akechi will tell you no, straight up. He's a Two Face. Depends on the day. He holds you protectively even though there's nobody but you and him. You will not escape.

Sumire is a mix of Ann and Makoto. Super nervous at first, but says she likes to yet only knows basic cuddling. Her voice helps too, it sounds really sweet. That and she'll give you positive affirmation.

ANYWAY, Goro Akechi Time

So, as is considered nearly common knowledge by now, data present in P5 and P5R points to the existence of a scrapped Akechi Palace for our ✨lovely pancake boy✨, but how much is known about it *really?* Here's a data breakdown of the scraps left over!

Every field in Persona 5 has a Major and Minor Field ID, and the game is programmed to assume Major ID's between 150 and 200 are Palaces. The final game uses IDs 150 to 162 for each Palace like so:

f150 - Prologue [ Casino Duplicate ]

f151 - Castle Pt.1

f152 - Castle Pt.2

f153 - Museum

f154 - Bank

f155 - Pyramid

f156 - Moon Base

f157 - Casino

f159 - Cruiseship

f160 - Holy Grail Path

f161 - Mementos Depths

f162 - Labratory

As you can see, there are missing Fields between 157 and 159, but how can we prove this is Akechi? We look at the dialogue for negotiating with Shadows!

When knocked down, Shadows occasionally mention whatever Palace Ruler is currently active. This data is stored in BATTLE\TALK in various .BF ( Binary Flowscript ) files that are run based on the enemy type.

Inside the BMD ( Binary Message Data ) chunk of these files, there's some unused dialogue:

Flee while you still can! Ahahaha! It is futile to oppose Lord Akechi! You would do well to tread carefully. Lord Akechi is a man possessed of immense desire. Hmph… I wonder if your power would even pose a threat to Lord Akechi… I give up… *sob* Lord Akechiii…

There are 27 lines in total from Shadows referencing "Lord Akechi", all of them localized! Normally, this is where most investigation ends. There was a planned Akechi Palace between Sae and Shido, but all data was scrapped and any attempts to load into the Palace by force fail due to an intense scrub of all related data.

( Generally this is a sign things are not going well )

This, however is not the end of things just yet—Atlus was not entirely diligent in the data wipe. One of the things left behind is a single .ENV ( Environment ) file. These files—among many other things—specify properties like texture color, color grading, light effects and so on for every field.

ENV\ENV0158_001_000.ENV is found in this folder, corresponding to the missing 158 Palace ID. However, since there's no meshes left over, we can only see ENV 158's effects by placing it on another field. Here is the front hall of the Bank Palace as seen in-game normally:

Here is what Akechi's Palace would have looked like, at least the ambiance, had development continued:

( I'm sure someone can make some kind of argument about how this represents Akechi thematically, lord knows I can. )

One other aspect still remaining is found in FIELD\FTD\FLDDNGPACK.FTD, a list that specifies what encounters can be found in any Palace, along with loot in Chests and Search Objects. Akechi's DNGPACK List is not entirely empty!

We can see by parsing this file that Akechi's Palace would have had around 21 different Fields, about the standard for every Palace in P5R, though this excludes Safe Rooms. While the Encounter Entries sadly lead only to default Kamoshida Castle battles, his list references a unique Random Loot Table 7! At the time of writing, it appears no other part of the game references Random Loot Table 7. While it lacks unique items found in other Palaces, the data is indicative of what could've been found inside Akechi's Palace Search Objects.

Jades and Garnets are placed at surprisingly high priority, along with the Marble Chessboard. Of note are the items such as the Marble Chessboard and Brass Pocket Watch, those specific Item IDs cannot be found in any other location in the ENTIRE Random Loot Table .FTD file.

Until more info about how Palaces function is uncovered, it seems like our Detective Prince will continue to elude us in his heavily fog-covered ways, this subject clearly needs more research to find any more remnants!

I get so tired of the running commentary that Makoto is a bad character after her arc.

1. Every character kind of "falls off" when the story is no longer centered around them. That's what happens when they are no longer the central focus of the game.

2. Her character doesn't "become boring" you just stopped paying attention to her. Makoto is such an amalgamation of dichotomy she's fascinating to watch.

She's a goody-two-shoes student council president who's obsessed with motorcycles.

She gives the air prim and proper lady who prefers pants to shirts and is highly skilled in aikido.

She's so motherly and caring, but has never really had a mother figure in her life to do the same for her.

She has 0 self-worth from the start of the game and you literally get to watch her grow in real time to realize her own value and stand by it.

Also she makes the comment that Akechi is probably smarter than her, but frankly I don't think so (and I say this as someone who deeply loves Akechi). Akechi IS smart and adaptable, but Makoto is strategic and level-headed. I think if their roles were reversed, Makoto definitely wouldn't have given herself away at the mention of pancakes, and Ren would definitely have died in the interrogation room.

I don’t know how much this lines up with canon, but I love interpreting Joker as noticing the pancake thing and consciously suspecting Akechi from Day 1, then slowly talking himself out of confronting it as he gets to know him.

Rank 1: “Hmm, this guy’s suspicious, but also interesting. I can humor him while I feel it out.”

Rank 2: “I mean, he clearly has to be that Black Mask guy Madarame mentioned since he can hear Mona, but what does that mean? What was he doing? He’s so hard to parse.”

Rank 3-4: “…He isn’t NECESSARILY this Black Mask person. Maybe he overheard something in Momentos. It’s more likely he found that place than some random palace, right? And was Kaneshiro even talking about the same person? If there are at least 2 parties in the Metaverse, why not 3?”

Rank 5-6: “So, he ISN’T the Black Mask, right? He isn’t… Except, he has to be. BUT, even if he IS, how do I KNOW he’s out to get us? Unless he does something UNDENIABLY suspicious, there’s no reason to assume the worst—”

the infamous prince detective of Japan, a prodigy, a high school student destined for greatness,

and the bastard son of a politician.

of course, no one knew that last part, all anyone knew was simply surface level.

he was handsome, he was incredibly intelligent, and a total sweetheart.

once again, very surface level.

but you knew further than that and it's one of the things he absolutely fucking hates about you

that and the fact that he's had the biggest crush on you as a kid. you were one of the most impactful things and you kept him anchored despite the constant moving of foster homes.

you see, you and akechi were in the same foster system growing up. he would constantly move into different homes for different periods of time-- heck one time you two even got fostered by the same couple!-- until you weren't.. they let you go early because they more or so favored akechi but eventually he was sent back as well simply because the foster families just couldn't "handle" either one of you, let alone both.

you both connected through this, having your own experiences with your biological family that caused you to be in the system with your friend since you could both remember.

as nice as that is, it’s unfortunate how you two were eventually sent to different schools. despite the protesting by the two of you to stick together, the system denied all your requests as so you can both “grow as individuals” and “you two cannot rely on eachother your entire lives” according to them.

despite this, it never kept you two apart.

even during his detective prince days, you two would hang out after school at the nearest cafe or mall. him getting his pancakes and you whatever your heart desires for the day, and you both enjoy it immensely.

you’ve seen his smile, his real genuine smile so many times… more than what you could remember.

but you’ve seen his worst, of course you have. with how long you’ve known him.. how could you not?

sometimes he’d visit you in your place after long nights or weeks of helping the police.. although with how heavy his eye bags seem and his eyes filled with a rage as red as the blood he wishes to spill, blood that he had already spilled..

but of course you didn’t know.

he couldn’t have you know.

over his dead body.

you just knew how angry he is, how much he despises, how spiteful, bitter, harsh,

on his father and himself.

one of those nights when you opened the door to him and he came to you in such a state, he fell into your arms. hugging you tightly than he ever has before.

the smell of your hair and clothes filled his senses and comforted him to another level that reminded him of the softer parts of his childhood, the touch and softness of your pajamas along with the warmth of your body that warmed his cold one felt like he just hugged an angel.

to an extent, you were, at least to him.

“Akechi?..” you mumbled, confused and worried but nonetheless you held him as he broke down on you.

tired and angry tears running down his face. you knew this wasn’t just about being Japan’s prince detective as you knew that he held that position well. that and he was still in his school uniform, he’s almost as neat as you last seen him before with the exception of his face and a few misplaced strands of brown hair.

he didn’t reply to your confusion, but you knew better than to pry too hard to Akechi of all people.

“look.. just come in .. you can stay here for the night. just take it easy okay?..” you spoke as you dragged him inside and closed the door behind you.

you took care of him, fed him, and set him ready for bed.

although he insisted sleeping on your sofa, you insisted on your bed. eventually you both agreed to just share the bed.. and anyone else would see this as scandalous and cheeky but to you two it was nothing but normal and comforting to eachother.

it’s not like you two never shared a bed growing up, especially when you were both fostered together once.

it was moments like these where in fact, he would trust you.

he knows he can, and he does! with all his heart, or well- whatever was left of it. so yes, not only do you have his trust, but you have him his whole life in your hands.

it would truly be a shame if you lost him..

which is why when you started getting involved in his secrets, secrets he swore to himself he didn’t want you to know.

you started interacting with people he despised and were out to get, you got yourself close and tidy with them it almost made him jealous— it was only until he found out that you knew about the cognitive world where he realized you just knew too much..

all while your efforts went into getting him to stop in any way you could and bring him back ���home’— you were just a second too late, and all of a sudden he’s ‘gone’..

“you could have him back, he doesn’t have to be gone! you could live your lives together peacefully, no worries or tribulations. only issues you’d ever have to ever deal with is those that come with a simple life.. what do you say, _______?”

you just simply couldn’t refuse the offer that Maruki would give to you to get your other half back. he caught you in a state where you went through your days sobbing in Akira’s attic or in the empty tables of Cafe Blanc, he knew you were in pain, and promised to take it all away.

you would think— would he want to stay dead? if he was dead.. would you ignore his wishes for yours?..

well, you already knew the answer to that, and you said it with full confidence.

I definitely caught Akechi overhearing Morgana (the infamous pancake line) and that certainly has… implications, but there’s another, much funnier realization I had about that scene

Akechi overhears Morgana’s voice, but as Morgana is hidden in Joker’s bag, he never sees him. He walks up and hears both Ann and Ryuji speaking - in fact, the only one he doesn’t hear say anything in that scene is Joker.

Which means as far as Akechi knows, Morgana’s voice is what Joker sounds like and that’s absolutely sending me
