In a generous act, father-son duo has agreed to share the losses incurred by the distributors because of Tubelight's unexpected failure at the box office.

Salman Khan‘s latest outing Tubelight, which released on June 23 this year, failed to set the cash registers ringing, as opposed to everyone’s expectations. The Kabir Khan directorial only managed to garner about Rs. 114.50 crore in the Indian Box Office. Distributors incurred huge losses and had been asking for a refund from Khan. Salman and his father reportedly had a meeting with the distributors at their residence on Saturday evening after which they agreed to shoulder their losses. Trade analyst Komal Nahta confirmed the news on twitter saying, “Salman Khan has agreed to refund monies to distributors to make up for losses in Tubelight. A lovely gesture. That’s being human!”

The superstar was said to have agreed to pay 55 crores to the distributors. However, Salman’s father and Bollywood’s celebrated writer Salim Khan revealed in an interview with SpotBoye that the final amount is yet to be decided as the film is still running in theaters. “Yes, we have assured them that we will share their losses. There are no two ways about this. There is no doubt we shall compensate them. Ab kitna karenge, woh decide karna baaki hai. This can’t be decided in a meeting of just 1 or 2 hours.”

“Tubelight is still running and paise aa rahen hain. When it all ends and we look into the final accounts, we will decide how much we can share the losses suffered by the distributors,” he added.

Well this is surely a generous gesture on the Khans’ part. When asked what possibly went wrong with Tubelight, the protective father told the portal, “This is one question that I don’t think can be answered. Tubelight was a film made with sincerity. I think many people liked it. but why it didn’t work in totality is a difficult question to reply. Aisi baatein hoti rehti hain. Didn’t it happen with Raj Kapoor in Mera Naam Joker? Didn’t it happen with Guru Dutt in Kagaz Ke Phool? Tubelight was made without any beimaani, aise hi kuch thok nahin diya tha humne.”

While answering the same question, Salman had earlier told PTI, “As it is an Eid release people have preconceived notions (about the film) as they throw coins, dance, sing in the cinema halls. They have gone to watch a certain film but get to watch another film. It is a very emotional film. Even an emotionless, stone hearted person will have tears in his eyes. So this is an emotional film to be seen with parents, grandparents and entire family.”

This is not the first time when a superstar will be returning money to the distributors. Rajinikanth has done it in the past for Lingaa (2014). Shah Rukh Khan, too, had compensated the distributors for Dilwale (2015), Asoka (2001) and Paheli (2005). Except for Tubelight, Salman’s Eid releases – be it Sultan (2016), Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015) or Ek Tha Tiger (2012); have always proved beneficial for the actor. Anyway, we are sure Salman will come back with a bang with his next outing with Katrina Kaif – Tiger Zinda Hai.
