Antonov An-225: The Biggest Airplane in the World
When it comes to airline airplane models, there's one that towers above the rest—quite literally. The Antonov An-225, known affectionately as "Mriya" (which means "Dream" in Ukrainian), holds the title of the biggest airplane in the world. This massive aircraft is not just a large airplane model in the figurative sense; it's the largest in every conceivable dimension.
The Antonov An-225 was originally designed in the 1980s to transport the Buran spaceplane, the Soviet Union's answer to NASA's Space Shuttle. But its capabilities far exceeded its original mission.
With its maiden flight in December 1988, the An-225 quickly became a symbol of Soviet engineering prowess, and later, an indispensable asset in global heavy-lift cargo transportation.
So, what makes the Antonov An-225 the biggest airplane in the world? Let’s delve into the details.
A Giant Among Giants
The sheer size of the Antonov An-225 is mind-boggling. This large airplane model has a measure of 84 meters (275 feet) in length, with wingspan size of 88.4 meters (290 feet). To put that into perspective, it's longer than an American football field and has a wingspan wider than a Boeing 747. The An-225 stands at 18.1 meters (59.3 feet) tall, nearly as tall as a six-story building.
This airline airplane model is equipped with six turbofan engines, each capable of producing 51,600 pounds of thrust. These engines, combined with its enormous wings, allow the An-225 to carry a maximum takeoff weight of 640,000 kg (1,410,958 pounds). This includes the cargo it carries, which can be up to 250,000 kg (550,000 pounds). This impressive lifting capability makes it the go-to choice for transporting oversized cargo, such as wind turbine blades, military tanks, and even other aircraft.
The Unique Capabilities of the An-225
The Antonov An-225's cargo bay is so large that it could fit 50 cars. The interior is 43.32 meters (142 feet) long, 6.4 meters (21 feet) wide, and 4.4 meters (14.5 feet) high, making it spacious enough to accommodate a wide range of oversized items. Unlike many other cargo aircraft, which load through a rear cargo door, the An-225 is loaded through the nose. The aircraft's nose lifts up, allowing direct access to the cavernous interior. This feature is crucial for loading extremely large and heavy objects that cannot be easily maneuvered.
Another notable feature of this large airplane model is its 32-wheel landing gear system. This complex system allows the An-225 to land on runways that would be unsuitable for other aircraft of its size, providing flexibility in the types of airports it can access.
The An-225 also has a range of 15,400 km (9,569 miles) when carrying a smaller load, but this decreases as the payload increases. Despite this, its range and payload capacity make it ideal for long-distance heavy-lift missions, and it remains a vital tool in global logistics.
A Record-Breaking Aircraft
Throughout its operational life, the Antonov An-225 has set numerous world records. In 2001, it carried the heaviest single cargo item ever transported by air—a 189-ton generator for a power plant. In another instance, it transported a 130-ton piece of machinery from Germany to Kazakhstan, marking the largest payload ever carried by an aircraft.
The An-225 has also been used in humanitarian missions, delivering supplies to disaster-stricken areas around the world. Its ability to transport large quantities of aid quickly and efficiently has made it an invaluable resource in times of crisis.
The Legacy of the Antonov An-225
The Antonov An-225 is not just a marvel of engineering; it's a symbol of what human ingenuity can achieve. Despite being over three decades old, this airline airplane model remains unmatched in terms of size and lifting capacity. Its continued operation is a testament to the foresight of its designers and the enduring need for such a massive aircraft in today’s world.
However, the An-225's future is uncertain. The only existing model has been in and out of service due to the high costs of operation and maintenance. There's also been speculation about building a second An-225, but financial and logistical challenges have stalled those plans.
Despite these uncertainties, the Antonov An-225’s legacy is secure. It continues to capture the imagination of aviation enthusiasts and the general public alike, reminding us of the heights—both literal and figurative—that human technology can reach.
In conclusion, the Antonov An-225 is not just the biggest airplane in the world; it’s a symbol of human achievement. From its origins as a Soviet space transporter to its current role in global cargo transportation, this large airplane model has set records and exceeded expectations. Whether or not it continues to fly for years to come, the An-225 will always be remembered as a giant among giants in the world of aviation.

Stage 9
Original Release: 2018
Developer: Messy Desk
Publisher: Messy Desk
Platform: PC
Stage 9 was a very ambitious fan project: recreate the Enterprise D in its entirety to explore at your own leisure. The project was shut down by CBS before it was completed, so we only have a selection of areas to explore – although most major areas are covered, including some never seen in the show.
As this is a very early build, the optimisation isn’t great, so it will be sluggish on decent PCs. As it’s just exploring, it’s not an issue. NPCs look a bit freaky, but you can turn them off.
The Enterprise D interiors have been recreated in astounding detail, areas we never got to see – such as the stairs to the Observation lounge – are now something we can look at and inspect. Some consoles also have functionality, you can take control of the ship, play with cargo bay tractor beams and open shuttlebay doors.
Speaking of shuttlebays, the most impressive location in this is the Enterprise D’s main shuttlebay, which we never got to see in the show. It’s absolutely colossal, like a full size airport, and you can see why they never had the budget to create a set for it (and CGI was too early when the show was on the air). It really helps to sell the scale of the ship.
Another treat is the holodeck, which has more bridges to explore. There’s the bridge of the Enterprise form The Original Series along with different variants of the Enterprise D bridge from: the Encounter at Farpoint, Yesterday’s Enterprise, All Good Things and Generations, giving you a nice idea of how much they were changed for these episodes.
It is easy to get lost, though, and it seems obvious that a map would have been implemented later in development. You can find some neat extras such as a phaser range and a shuttle you can pilot.
It’s a massive shame that this project was shut down. The developers behind this were hired to make an interactive experience for The Orville where you get to explore the whole ship, and some of them are working on The Roddenberry Archive.

"Noona, I had concerts in three countries in Asia and you never went to one of them. I told you just email me and I'll send you the QR tickets." Yoongi would not let you off the hook for ditching his offer to watch one of his shows. He's now pulling the noona-dongsaeng card to get you to watch one of the Korea legs of his tour. "Come to the last day! The final final!" This got you confused as fuck. "The last final final?! Jesus Christ, Yoongi, get the name of your tour right." You can tell he was laughing silently by the short gasps of air he was taking. "The announced dates are just two - June 24 and 25. But the other three I'll announce on the 25th. Surprise!" You roll your eyes at his humor. "Noona, you said I'm your bias even if you dated Namjoon! Come on, I promise it will be worth the flight to Korea. Don't you miss us?! The maknaes do - more than Joon!" This concert means so much to your bestest friend in the world, so how can you say no? One of the things you feared you'd lose when you and Joon broke up was your friendship with Yoongi. After all, they've been literally together more than half their lives. Thankfully, Yoongi was the kind of person who can balance friendships no matter how complicated they seemed.
You left Korea a month after you broke up with Joon. Yoongi and the rest of the guys kept in touch, but they were careful not to mention Joon or any of his whereabouts. Yoongi did say that Joon had a complete signed set of his album, Indigo, ready for you, but they were now stuck in Genius Lab because Joon didn't know you'd left for good. "Get your albums when you come here. There's a vinyl, too. The white boxes look so out of place in my studio," he complained. "So when is the final final final?" you ask. "August 6! But stay longer after the concert. I don't have much time to go out between June and August. Hyung's getting married and I've other stuff planned. We miss you, stay with us a bit longer." Hearing Yoongi say that suddenly made you miss them all, too. "Hmmmkay. How about August 1 to 10? Or 12? Two weeks should be enough! I might not have a job waiting for me when I get back." Yoongi was so happy, you can imagine him happy-dancing all over his studio. "See you, noona!!! I'll get the team to send you the QR ticket for August 6. Wooohhhoooo!!!"
It's been three years. Everything felt familiar, yet also new. You were surprised you still knew how to navigate your way around Incheon's arrival area, and even more surprised that you can still carry a decent conversation in Korean with someone who's not Yoongi. Normally you would've just taken the shuttle bus or taxi to your hotel, but Yoongi sent a car for you, which was already waiting at the exit bay. You drive through familiar buildings, streets, malls, and restaurants. On the flight here you were expecting to be flooded by unpleasant memories, but they seemed distant and nonexistent as Korea's rush hour welcomed you back.
Your phone rings. It's Yoongi video-calling you from his studio. "Are you here already?" He asks as he lowers the volume of the music. He was obviously working on something. "Yeah, maybe 15 more minutes to the hotel." He looks at the clock on his desk. "Cool. Jimin's coming off from rehearsal in an hour. You up for dinner with us?" Honestly, you just wanted to sleep because your supposed to be early-morning flight from Manila was pushed back to the afternoon, but dinner sounds good, too. "Your treat?" Yoongi scrunches his nose at your question. "I know you'll say yes if I say yes, so yes."
After checking in and unpacking some of the clothes you brought, you realize you have time to spare so you take a quick shower before heading out to dinner. Yoongi already texted you the name of the restaurant, and the same car that fetched you from the airport will bring you there. Apparently, he hired it for your entire stay here. "So I wouldn't have to think how you'll get back to your hotel in case I can't drive you," he said.
When you got to the restaurant Yoongi and Jimin were already there. You've video-called Yoongi frequently over the years so you already knew what he looks like, but seeing Jimin's built for the first time took you by surprise. "Jimin-ah!!! You've been working out!" He looks up from his phone and gives his signature eye-smile laugh. "Yaaaaaah! So good to see you again, Y/N!" He stands up and gives you a tight hug. "We thought you forgot about us already. Good thing Yoongi-hyung has these concerts otherwise we'd have to find a reason to go to you to Manila." Yoongi motions to the empty seat beside Jimin. "Are we waiting for someone else?" you ask as you take a seat. You catch Yoongi and Jimin exchanging a quick uncomfortable look with each other, then Yoongi looks at you. "Nope, just the three of us."
You catch up mostly with Jimin and how he's been doing since his Billboard feat. Yoongi was silent most of the time that you and Jimin were talking, but you notice him glancing anxiously at his phone several times. "Yoongi, you okay? Are you waiting for someone?" He looks at Jimin again, then the latter shakes his head as if to say, "Give it up, hyung." Yoongi sighs and leans back in his seat. "We asked Joon if he could come and join us - just me and Jimin. But Tae slipped in our group chat that you arrived today, so..." Jimin sighs. "So he hasn't been replying to us for the past two hours." He continues after taking a swig of his beer. "We just thought it was a good idea for him to see you again. He was a mess after your breakup. Wouldn't leave the studio, wouldn't go out with us. It's like he was on auto-pilot, only smiled and talked and socialized when needed at work." "Otherwise, he's dead," Yoongi added.
You wanted to hit Yoongi and Jimin on the head. Of course, Joon would back out the minute he knew you were joining them for dinner. It was not a "good idea" at all to set him up like that with his ex after not seeing her for three years. But you say nothing and just shake your head. "Don't bug him. If he doesn't want to see me, it's okay. He's not what I'm here for, anyway, right?" You raise your glass for a toast and smile widely at Yoongi.
On the ride back to the hotel, you think about how Jimin and Yoongi described Joon post-breakup. This is the first time they've talked about Joon openly - mostly it's about his album or upcoming projects. You can't imagine Joon being a mess because, between you, he's always the composed one. He isn't easily fazed by chaos and would still manage to have time to hear out your problems even if he's got a million things running in his head already. You admired this about him, but he said he only became like that because he was exposed to pressure at a very young age.
Your phone buzzes and a familiar number flashes on the screen. You blink once, twice. The call was about to end when you slide the green icon to accept it.
"Hey." There's no mistaking that deep voice, almost talking in a whisper. "Are you really here?"

Week 6: Hola Barcelona!
Hi everyone! This week I started my work experience with the Punta Campanella Marine Conservatory. Our first day consisted of an orientation and brief explanation of the park and what their projects are currently. Our job supervisor, Domenico, is understanding and so enthusiastic about our experience this summer.
To get to work, we must take a bus ride to a town nearby called Massa Lubrense. The buses can be chaotic at times, but you get better at it as you go along. The bus ride is around 20-30 minutes which is nice compared to other friends who have to travel 1-2 hrs to reach their work experience in Naples.
My actual first day on the job was on Thursday. I took the bus to a marina with two other interns to meet Domenico at the docks. Our job was to record information on what fishermen in the area were catching and document their price, weight, species, etc. It was nice to meet some of the locals in the area and learn more about the coastal environment around Sorrento. After this, we had a quick coffee break (it is common in Italian culture to have a coffee with your colleagues) and went to the office. In the office, we put all the information we collected in an excel sheet along with the pictures we took. We then went down to their visitor center and helped clean out some aquariums. I am very excited for how this experience will go and next week I will be visiting the Ieranto Bay to do some research!
This weekend my friends and I took a trip to Barcelona. As this is my only trip outside of Italy, I was pretty excited. I also have some family members in Barcelona so I was pretty happy to be able to meet them after not seeing them for a couple years. We booked our tickets through Student Universe( recommended if you are looking for cheap flights) and everything went smoothly. To get to the Naples airport, we took a 10 euro shuttle from Sorrento which took around 2 hours. The first night we arrived in Barcelona at around 12 am so we did not do much till the next day.
Our first stop the next morning was to Park Guell. We grabbed some lunch and then used the metro to get to the park. The Barcelona metro is pretty simple to use and I would recommend getting the pass for 10 rides for 11 euros if you are staying for multiple days. The tickets for the park were 10 euros and I would advise to buy them in advance as they tend to sell out the day of. After this we got lunch and headed to our tour of the Sagrada Familia around 6pm.
Going inside the Sagrada Familia was something I will never forget. It is so beautiful and going around the time the sun sets made the stained glass windows look absolutely magical. Most of us were left speechless and I could spend hours just looking around. It was interesting to learn about all the details the architect Antoni Gaudí had envisioned for the church and how they are still continuing its construction till this day. After this, we went back to the airbnb, had dinner, and then headed out for the night!
The next morning, I got to show my friends a great Venezuelan food place near where we were staying. I noticed that there were many Venezuelan restaurants in Barcelona, but this place had my favorite traditional dish, cachapas! We then caught the metro to a main street called Passeig de Gracia to see the houses of Gaudi, Casa Mila and Casa Batllo. Barcelona is filled with Gaudi’s creations and you can notice his influence in every aspect of architecture in Barcelona (even the lampposts!).
For dinner, we had traditional food from Spain, paella and tapas. The seafood paella was so good and my favorite dish was the garlic shrimp! We also had sangria de cava which is a traditional wine from the area. That night we decided to go to the Dow Jones bar. This bar was so cool as it mimicked the stock market so prices for drinks would go up and down similar to stocks. There would also be a market crash every half hour where the drinks would go back to their baseline price.
For our final day in Barcelona, we went to Parque de La Citadella in the morning. The park is located right near the Arc de Triomf and after I took the metro to have lunch with family who live nearby. After lunch, I met up with my friends at Las Ramblas and visited the Mercat de La Boqueria. This street market had the best fruit and juices I have ever had. They also had many sandwich places and different types of food. From here, we picked up our luggages and headed on our way back to Naples.
Barcelona was such a fun city to discover and there are so many things to do. It was definitely an enjoyable weekend and I can’t believe I am almost done with my study abroad. Until next time!

number 1. Adjust the Pacific Surfliner / Coastal Starlight connection point to be in the Bay Area instead, so that the Jack London Square station is a three-way connection between those 2 + San Joaquin instead of having the Coastal Starlight and Pacific Surfliner randomly meet up in SLO.
it feels like there's no good reason for SLO to be the point where one becomes the other, except to make it infinitely more annoying or slow to get from SoCal to NorCal (since switching Surfliner <---> Starlight is only offered like 1-2 times a day, iirc, and one of those involves an annoying layover in LA). this seems like it should be actually feasible in a short time scale, since the entire length is already covered, it's just a very annoying side-effect of the routing that it costs $$$ to get from the Bay to SoCal.
if the concern is scheduling enough trains between Central Cal and SoCal, maybe instead have a shorter line that runs SLO--LA like the one that runs SAN--LA parallel the Surfliner, I think train #752? don't quote me on that.
number 2. and this one would make me, personally, take Amtrak more often: make it easier to get from Union Station in Chicago to either of the airports. if getting to, say, O'Hare was easier by train, then it'd both be nice for those us who, say, might be coming up from elsewhere in the state and want to shave some money, and would in general just make the commuter train way more useful for those of us stuck in (ugh) non-Chicago Illinois. it would replace a commuter flight that runs between certain minor airports which shall not be named and O'Hare, as well, and with a much lower ticket cost I imagine that many other people would take that instead of the flight.
the issue with this second one is that I have no idea how feasible it really is, but I will say--even just if Amtrak ran a shuttle bus (like it does elsewhere), it would both be nicer and way less of a headache than trying to figure out how to sync up the Amtrak, local public transit, and getting to one's flight on time. like this is a very non-hypothetical problem. it currently Sucks.
Girls, what do you want from a train service and how can Amtrak improve over the next 10 years to better serve you.
#void talks#and before you yell at me for the flight thing#you put a high speed rail that goes to the west coast and then we'll talk.

Navigating Tampa Airport Transportation: Your Comprehensive Guide
Traveling to and from Tampa International Airport (TPA) can be a smooth and stress-free experience if you understand the various transportation options available and plan accordingly. This comprehensive guide will help you navigate the transportation choices at Tampa Airport, ensuring that you can select the best option for your needs and preferences.
Tampa International Airport is a major hub in Florida, serving millions of travelers each year. With its wide range of transportation options, it is important to understand what each service offers, how to use them, and what factors to consider when planning your airport journey. By following this guide, you can make informed decisions and streamline your travel experience.
Understanding Transportation Options
Tampa International Airport provides several transportation options designed to accommodate various needs and preferences. These options include rental cars, shuttle services, taxis, ride-sharing, public transit, and private car services. Each option has its own advantages, and choosing the right one depends on your specific requirements.
Rental Cars
Renting a car is a popular choice for travelers who prefer flexibility and independence. Tampa International Airport features a rental car center located adjacent to the main terminal. This center hosts several major rental car companies, allowing you to select from a wide range of vehicles based on your preferences and needs.
Rental cars offer the freedom to explore the Tampa area at your own pace and can be especially useful for extended stays or trips that involve multiple destinations. When renting a car, consider factors such as insurance coverage, fuel policies, and parking arrangements. Additionally, be aware of any extra fees or charges that may apply.
Shuttle Services
Airport shuttles are a convenient and cost-effective transportation option, especially for travelers who are part of a group or have significant luggage. Shuttle services typically operate on a fixed schedule and provide shared rides to and from the airport. These services can be pre-booked online or arranged upon arrival at the airport.
Shuttles are often used by hotels and resorts to transport guests between the airport and their accommodations. Many hotels offer complimentary shuttle services as part of their amenities. Check with your hotel to see if this service is available and if any reservations are required.
Taxis
Taxis offer a straightforward and reliable transportation option for travelers heading to or from Tampa International Airport. The airport has a designated taxi stand located outside the main terminal, where you can easily find a cab ready to take you to your destination. Taxi services operate on a metered fare system, which means the cost of your ride will depend on the distance traveled and any applicable surcharges.
Taxis are a good choice for travelers who prefer direct, private transportation without the need to make multiple stops. They are also suitable for those who require immediate transportation upon arrival at the airport.
Ride-Sharing Services
Ride-sharing services such as Uber and Lyft have become increasingly popular due to their convenience and flexibility. These services allow you to book a ride using a smartphone app, providing real-time tracking and fare estimates. Ride-sharing vehicles can pick you up directly at designated areas outside the terminal.
Ride-sharing is a good option for travelers seeking a more personalized and often cost-effective transportation experience. However, availability can vary based on demand, so it’s important to plan ahead and consider peak travel times.
Public Transit
For budget-conscious travelers, public transit offers an economical way to get to and from Tampa International Airport. The Hillsborough Area Regional Transit (HART) operates bus routes that connect the airport with various parts of the Tampa Bay area. The bus stop is located at the Red Terminal, and schedules and route information can be found on the HART website or at the airport.
Public transit is a suitable option for those who do not mind a longer travel time and prefer to avoid the cost of other transportation methods. It’s important to check bus schedules in advance and be aware of potential delays or transfers.
Private Car Services
Private car services provide a luxurious and personalized transportation experience. These services offer a range of vehicles, from high-end sedans to spacious SUVs, and typically include amenities such as professional drivers, complimentary beverages, and real-time flight tracking. Private car services can be pre-arranged through various providers and are ideal for travelers seeking a high level of comfort and convenience.
When booking a private car service, consider factors such as the vehicle type, cost, and any additional services offered. Private car services are often used for business travelers, special occasions, or those who prefer a more exclusive travel experience.
Planning Your Airport Transportation
Effective planning is essential for ensuring a smooth transportation experience to and from Tampa International Airport. Here are some key considerations to help you plan your journey:
Book in Advance
For many transportation options, especially rental cars, private car services, and shuttle services, it’s beneficial to make reservations in advance. Booking ahead can help you secure the best rates and ensure availability, particularly during peak travel seasons.
Verify Pickup and Drop-off Locations
Different transportation services have specific pickup and drop-off locations at the airport. Make sure you are familiar with these locations to avoid any confusion or delays. For example, rental car pick-up is at the Rental Car Center, while ride-sharing pickups occur at designated areas outside the terminal.
Consider Travel Time and Traffic
Tampa is a bustling city, and traffic conditions can impact your travel time. Consider factors such as rush hour and construction when planning your transportation. Allow extra time for unforeseen delays to ensure that you arrive at the airport on time for your flight.
Check for Service Availability and Hours
Different transportation services have varying hours of operation. Ensure that the service you choose is available at the times you need and confirm any scheduling details. For example, public transit and shuttle services may have limited operating hours, while private car services often offer 24/7 availability.
Prepare for Security and Luggage
If you are using public transit or a shared shuttle service, be prepared to handle your own luggage and navigate security procedures. Ensure that you have all necessary identification and travel documents readily accessible. For private car services and rental cars, check the vehicle’s space to accommodate your luggage comfortably.
Cost Considerations
Cost is an important factor when choosing your transportation option. Compare the pricing of different services and consider any additional fees or surcharges that may apply. Keep in mind that while some options may be more affordable, they may also involve trade-offs in terms of convenience or comfort.
Customer Reviews and Recommendations
Before making a final decision, read customer reviews and seek recommendations from friends or family who have used transportation services at Tampa International Airport. Reviews can provide valuable insights into the quality and reliability of different providers.
Conclusion
Navigating Tampa Airport transportation options effectively requires careful planning and consideration of your specific needs. By understanding the various transportation choices available, from rental cars and shuttles to taxis and ride-sharing services, you can make informed decisions that enhance your travel experience.
Whether you prioritize convenience, cost, or luxury, Tampa offers a range of transportation solutions to suit different preferences and budgets. By booking in advance, verifying pickup and drop-off locations, and accounting for travel time, you can ensure a smooth and enjoyable journey to and from the airport.
With the right preparation and awareness of your options, you can confidently navigate Tampa Airport and focus on enjoying your travel experience.

Millbrae, CA (No. 5)
In 1989, a master plan and Environmental Impact Report were prepared to guide development over the next two decades. During the boom of the 1990s and the dot-com boom SFO became the sixth busiest airport in the world, but since 2001, when the boom ended, SFO has fallen out of the top 20. United Express turboprops were scheduled 60 minutes apart to the shuttle connecting passengers between SFO and nearby San Jose International Airport during the boom era. United Groundlink supplemented this service with alternate 60-minute frequencies.
A $2.4 billion International Terminal Complex opened in December 2000, replacing Terminal 2 (known then as the International Terminal). The new International Terminal includes the San Francisco Airport Commission Aviation Museum and Library and the Louis A. Turpen Aviation Museum, as part of the SFO Museum. SFO's long-running museum exhibition program, now called SFO Museum, won unprecedented accreditation by the American Alliance of Museums in 1999.
SFO experiences delays (known as flow control) in overcast weather when only two of the airport's four runways can be used at a time because the centerlines of the parallel runway sets (01R/01L and 28R/28L) are only 750 feet (230 m) apart. Airport planners advanced proposals that would extend the airport's runways by adding up to 2 square miles (1,300 acres; 520 ha) of fill to San Francisco Bay and increase their separation by up to 4,300 feet (1,300 m) in 1998 to accommodate arrivals and departures during periods of low visibility. Other proposals included three floating runways, each approximately 12,000 feet (3,700 m) long and 1,000 feet (300 m) wide.[49] The airport would be required by law to restore Bay land elsewhere in the Bay Area to offset the fill. One mitigation proposal would have the airport purchase and restore the 29,000 acres (12,000 ha) of South Bay wetlands owned by Cargill Salt to compensate for the new fill. These expansion proposals met resistance from environmental groups, including the Sierra Club, fearing damage to the habitat of animals near the airport, recreational degradation (such as windsurfing) and bay water quality.
