Days of Transit and Films
Living in Australia, the first day of travel is almost always the most uneventful. Why? Because in order to reach any other country (besides New Zealand) involves a bloody long flight. So, it was with my trip to Japan via ANA (which took about 9 hours and 45 minutes or so). It also didn't help that there was congestion at Sydney airport, which delayed our departure time by upwards of thirty minutes. By the time we landed in Tokyo, it was nearly 9 PM local time and bleachpanda and I needed to go through customs, collect our baggage and check-in to our hotel.
Thankfully, getting through immigration didn't take too long for either me or bleachpanda. With our luggage in tow, we breezed through quarantine and went about securing ourselves a taxi to take us to our hotel for the night: Toyoko Inn II in Haneda.
Tumblr media
On the 9 hour flight over to Japan, I kept myself entertained with several films while bleachpanda battled with motion sickness. Still, she managed to watch Barbie despite sleeping for the majority of our time onboard. As for me, the films I watched included: The Marsh King's Daughter, Puppy Love, Lyle, Lyle Crocodile and Dumb Money. An eclectic collection of films that started off strong in the psychological thriller genre before dovetailing into a lighthearted romantic comedy and animated child film. Then I finished it off by watching a meme-heavy film about gamers rising up and sticking it to the man.
Sadly, during my flight over to Japan, I didn't get much reading done. Nor could bleachpanda and I have any riveting conversations given her proclivity for motion sickness and had her eyes closed every time our plane hit turbulence.
But what to say about the films I binged on the way to Japan? Well, The Marsh King's Daughter was a movie that tickled my interest a few months back when I first saw the trailer. It starred Daisy Ridley and Ben Mendelsohn and so was immediately on my radar as a weighty exploration of the human condition. While it wasn't exactly the most riveting watch, it still managed to capture my attention for the duration of its run-time.
After enjoying the tension-heavy film about family, love and toxic obsession, I decided to watch something I could completely shut my brain off. Enter: Puppy Love starring Lucy Hale and Grant Gustin (two actors who caught my eye back when they were starting out. One featured in a guilty pleasure show I watched back when I was in university - Pretty Little Liars - and the other started out as an antagonist in Glee before becoming the better version of the fastest man alive).
From Puppy Love, I hopped over to watch a film about a singing crocodile and the wacky plot shenanigans that come from a half-animated, half live-action musical starring the likes of Shawn Mendes, Javier Bardem and Constance Wu. Is it strange that there's a singing crocodile whose exact origins were never exactly explained? Yes, but the songs are catchy and it's a nice feel-good film.
And even though Lyle doesn't speak, he can readily communicate through song - which, admittedly, beggars belief but these aren't things one should think too hard about.
Then finally, after nearly nine hours in the air, and fully from a sandwich dinner, I settled the headphones back onto my ears to watch Dumb Money. Though I never did watch it in cinemas, I did read about how people were using the RobinHood app to hold the line against The Man when it came to the shorting of the GameStop stock back in 2021.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At 8:57 PM, we landed at Haneda airport. After our plane taxied to its designated spot, we traipsed down a set of stairs for the waiting shuttles that took us to the terminal proper. Due to the late hour, we were the only flight going through immigration and customs, smoothing exiting the airport about twenty minutes to ten.
One short taxi ride later took us to our hotel close by. I, of course, managed to embarrass myself by trying to close the automatic door of the cab. It was only when I heard the driver tell me twice to stop that I realised the error of my ways. Still, we managed to check-in to the hotel only a few minutes past 10 PM. Once inside, bleachpanda and I dumped our gear and flopped onto the bed, exhausted from a day on the plane.
The next day, I woke up early and puttered around our shared room as bleachpanda snored away. At 7 AM, bleachpanda's alarm went off and after spending 45 getting ready, the two of us headed down for breakfast. Once full, we visited a local shrine nearby as well as a 7-Eleven wherein I bought a banana and milk.
Returning to our hotel at around 9:30, it was back on the road for the two of us as we headed to Narita airport for our flight to Seoul. We arrived with barely any time to spare as we checked-in for our flight and sped through security. Still, we managed to try out Japan McDonald's. I picked a Teriyaki Pork Burger (which was mildly disappointing because of how dense the sauce was) and bleachpanda enjoyed an Ebi Burger. Full, we boarded our flight to Seoul, wherein we were treated with another heavy meal.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At 4:30 PM, we landed at Incheon International. On the flight, I watched Venom: Let There Be Carnage while belachpanda slept on, too ill from the turbulent start to our flight. The sequel to Sony's Venom was a fun watch, even if it didn't win any awards. Tom Hardy, I can most assuredly say, is living his best Eddie Brock life, given the banter between our two protagonists.
In fact, it reminded me of my relationship with bleachpanda during the trip. I'd tease and aggravate her, she'd threaten to murder me in my sleep...
And yet she'd still comply with all my walking demands as we managed to rack up a 14,500 step count average over the three weeks we were out and about on our overseas trip.
Once we grabbed our luggage and went through South Korea immigration, we took a taxi to our hotel in the heart of Seoul. After wechecked in to our hotel in South Korea: ENA Suite Namdaemun, bleachpanda and I ventured out to enjoy a nice meal out at Michelin Star winner: Korea Ginseng Chicken Soup.

Tokyo to Barcelona
An early start today, which wasn’t actually that bad given it’s two hours behind Sydney. The hotel runs a shuttle to the airport, so before we knew we were in the lounge and onto our first glass of bubbles for the day. I know curry and champagne is an odd breakfast but I really like the Japanese curry so I thought I should get it while I could.
I’ve spoken about Japanese toilets before on this blog but the loos at Tokyo International airport had a feature I don’t recall from past experience. As soon as your butt hit the seat we had running water and wave noises, with the occasional bird for good measure. With all that racket a girl could get performance anxiety 😟
The flight to London was 14 hours and it really did feel like a long time. I had thought overnighting in Tokyo would make it easier but I think because you have slept you don’t try in the plane and so it’s 14 hours of watching movies, etc. By the time we were landing in London I realised it was about midnight in Tokyo and 2am in Sydney, so if I did this flight again I should try and get some sleep.
Aside from that the flight passed fairly uneventfully. We had enough time in London for a glass of bubbles in the lounge and a quick bite before boarding the flight to Barcelona.
Thankfully I slept through most of the flight to Barcelona as by now we were both thoroughly over it. We quickly passed through passport control, etc and we’re soon on the bus to the cbd.
By now it was getting onto 9pm, so we dropped our bags in the room and headed out for a bite to eat before collapsing into bed. Right now sleep has to wait until I get my blog posted.

Travel with Peace of Mind: The Benefits of Long-Term Sydney Airport Parking
When planning a family vacation or an extended business trip, figuring out where to leave your car while you're away is an important consideration. Sydney airport parking offers a convenient and secure solution, allowing you to drive your own vehicle to the airport and avoid the hassles of public transportation or expensive rideshare services. Whether your trip is for a week or longer, long-term Sydney airport parking is the best option for convenience, cost, and peace of mind.
Tumblr media
Why Drive to Sydney Airport?
Choosing to drive your own vehicle to the airport offers numerous advantages. You have full control over your schedule, allowing you to leave home at the time that suits you best. Plus, there's no need to worry about hauling your luggage through public transport or waiting for a ride to pick you up. With your car parked securely, you'll have one less thing to worry about while you're away.
Public transportation and rideshare options can be limited and expensive, especially for families or those carrying a lot of luggage. Driving your car to the airport can save you time and, in many cases, money.
The Benefits of Long-Term Sydney Airport Parking
When it comes to long-term parking at Sydney Airport, you can rest assured that your vehicle will be secure for the duration of your trip. These car parks are designed to accommodate vehicles for extended periods, and they offer several benefits that make them a smart choice for travellers.
Security:
Long-term off-site airport parking facilities near Sydney airport are equipped with advanced security systems. Most offer 24/7 CCTV monitoring, security fencing, and gated access, ensuring that your vehicle is safe while you're away. Leaving your car in a well-protected car park is safer than leaving it unattended at home for an extended period.
Affordability:
Long-term airport parking offers excellent value, especially for those who need parking for more than a few days. Many providers provide weekly and monthly packages that help cut down on costs.
Convenience:
Most long-term parking providers offer a shuttle service to and from the airport terminals. These shuttles run frequently and are typically just a few minutes away from the terminal, making the transition from car to check-in as smooth as possible. With a reliable transfer service, you won't have to worry about missing your flight.
How to Secure Your Long-Term Parking Spot
Booking your parking spot in advance is highly recommended. As soon as you know your departure and return dates, it's a good idea to reserve your space. Many Sydney airport parking providers allow you to make online reservations, ensuring that you have a guaranteed spot when you arrive. This is particularly important during peak travel seasons when availability can become limited.
Long-Term Parking for Business Travelers
For those embarking on extended business trips, long-term parking offers an ideal solution. The cost-effectiveness, combined with the security features, ensures that your vehicle remains safe while you're away on business. Knowing that your car is waiting for you when you return, without needing to coordinate a pick-up, adds a level of convenience that's hard to match.
Conclusion
When planning your next family vacation or business trip, Sydney airport parking provides a secure, affordable, and convenient solution.
For a hassle-free trip, consider booking your parking spot ahead of time, allowing you to focus on enjoying your time away without worrying about the safety of your vehicle.

Sydney
Sunday 3rd November 2024
It’s Sunday evening for us now and we’re a bit weary. We started our journey on Friday evening from Heathrow and we’ve lost half a day somewhere but the journey was better than expected and both Hong Kong and Sydney airports were a pleasure to go through. The flights were fine, reasonably comfortable and no delays.
We landed at Sydney about 6.30 this morning local time and had pre booked a shuttle to take us into the city so got to our hotel about 9am. They even had a room ready early so we could have a shower and freshen up.
We decided to head out on the train and bus to Bondi beach for some fresh air. Loads of other people with the same idea but a great walk along the sand watching the surfers, followed by a quick dip, certainly woke us up a bit. No problem getting into the slightly cool water for Mark - he was knocked over by one of the bigger waves!
Heard lots of noisy birds in the trees and eventually spotted some. Worked out later they are noisy minahs, a bit like starlings. Lovely weather, about 30 degrees today so we headed back to the hotel mid afternoon for a short nap before heading out to explore Darling harbour, where our hotel is.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Loads of people out on party boats so we jumped on a ferry to Circular quay and got some great views of the bridge and opera house. When we landed at the quay we walked round the block and found the golden links sculpture that matches the concrete version back home in Pompey.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the evening went back to the dock near the hotel for a meal of pasta and pizza. Called it a night by 9pm - a great first day which has included a double decker train, a bus, a ferry and a tram.

Why Private Airport Transfers Are the Best Choice for Sydney Visitors
A key reason to choose private airport transfers is the comfort and convenience they provide. After a long flight, the last thing any traveler wants is to navigate public Transporation or wait in long taxi queues. Private transfers eliminate these hassles, offering door to door service. A professional driver greets you upon arrival, assists with your luggage, and transports you directly to your destination, whether that's your hotel or another location in the city.
Moreover, with private transfers you don't must worry about carrying heavy luggage through public transport terminals. Your private driver takes care of everything, ensuring a smooth and relaxing journey right from the airport.
Time Efficient
Private airport transfers are tailored to save you time, particularly in a busy city like Sydney. Public transportation options like buses and trains have fixed schedules and may require additional time to reach your final destination, especially if they involve multiple stops. Private transfers offer direct routes and personalized service, meaning you can avoid delays and unnecessary detours. For business travel or those on tight schedules, this time saving feature is curial.
Sydney’s traffic can be unpredictable but experienced drivers are adept at navigating the city’s roadways and will choose the best routes to ensure a timely arrival at your destination.
Personalized Service
Another major advantage of private transfers is the level of personalized service they offer. Many private airports transfer service, like Penguin Cars & Limousines, provide a wide range of vehicle options depending on your preferences and group size. Whether you’re travelling alone, with family or in a larger group, there’s a vehicle suited to your needs from luxury sedans to spacious vans.
In addition, some services allow you to request specific amities or make special arrangements in advance, further enhancing your travel experience.
Reliable and Professional Drivers
When you book a private airport transfer in Sydney, you can trust that your driver will be a professional licensed and experienced individual. Reputable companies conduct thorough background checks and training for their drivers, ensuring safety and reliability. You’ll avoid the risks of dealing with unregulated rideshare drivers, ensuring safety and reliability.
In Sydney, navigating the city can be challenging for newcomers. Professional drivers are familiar with all the routes, traffic patterns and shortcuts to help you reach your destination swiftly and safely. Additionally with services like Penguin Cars & Limousines, you can expect punctuality and courtesy.
Fixed Pricing with No Hidden Costs
One of the most frustrating aspects of relying on taxis or rideshare services can be the unpredictable pricing. Surge pricing during peak times or unexpected detours can quickly drive up the cost of your ride. In contrast private airport transfer services typically offer fixed pricing based on your destination. This means no surprises when it comes to your fare, allowing you to budget more effectively for your trip.
With a private transfer you know the cost upfront, and there are no hidden fees for luggage, waiting time or detours offering peace of mind.
Enhanced Privacy
For travelers who value privacy, private airport transfers provide a much more exclusive experience than shared shuttles or public transportation. You’ll have the vehicle entirely to yourself or your group, ensuring a peaceful quiet ride. This added level of privacy is particularly beneficial for families, business executives and high-profile individuals who prefer discretion when traveling.
Moreover, privacy allows you to make important phone calls, work or simply unwind without distractions during your journey from the airport.
Flexibility and Aviability
Unlike public Transportaion or scheduled shuttle services, private airport transfers are available 24/7, giving you the flexibility to book your transfer at any time. This can especially be important for travelers arriving in Sydney during the late hours or early mornings when other options may be limited.
Most private transfer services offer easy online booking systems, allowing you to arrange your transfer in advance. Even if your flight is delayed or rescheduled, private services typically monitor your flight’s status and adjust the pickup time accordingly. This means you won't worry about making additional arrangements if your travel plans change.
Safety and Hygiene
In today’s world, safety and hygiene have become more critical than ever. Private airport transfer provides a safer, more hygienic option compared to public transpiration where you may be exposed to larger crowds. Private services ensure that their vehicles are cleaned and sanitized regularly to protect passenger’s health.
Additionally, travelling in a private vehicle means reduced exposure to unknown individuals, making it an ideal option for those concerned about maintaining social distance during their travels.
Local Knowledge and Recommendations
Another great benefit of hiring a private airport transfer service is that you can leverage the local Knowlege of your driver. Professional drivers often act as informal guides, offering suggestions for local attractions, restaurants and other hidden gems in Sydney. They can also provide tips on how to get around the city, making your trip more enjoyable and stress free.
Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a regular traveler to Sydney, a driver’s insights can help you make the most of your time in the city.
Luxury and Comfort
Private airport transfer services often provide luxury vehicles that offer a higher level of comfort and sophistication. If you’re looking to make your arrival in Sydney extra special or simply want to relax in style, luxury transfer options are available. Vehicles come equipped with amenities like climate control, WIFI, leather seats and more, ensuring a premium travel experience.
These options are especially popular with business travelers who want to arrive in comfort or individuals celebrating a special occasion.
When visiting Sydney, choosing a private airport transfer service like Penguin Cars & Limousines offers numerous advantages, from convenience and time efficiency to privacy and comfort. It's an investment in a hassle-free, enjoyable travel experience. Whether you’re travelling for business, leisure or with the family private airport transfers ensure that you start and end your journey in the best way possible.
Stress Free Arial Experience
Arriving in a new city can often be overwhelming, especially in a bustling city like Sydney. Private airport transfers remove the stress of having to figure out transportation upon arrival. Travelers can rest assured knowing a professional driver will be there to meet them at the designated time, no matter when their flight arrives. This can be particularly valuable when arriving at odd hours or when dealing with flight delays.
Family Friendly Option
For families traveling with children, private airports provide a more relaxed and accommodating environment compared to shared shuttles or public transport. Car seats can be requested in advance, and parents have peace of mind knowing they won’t have to worry about making multiple stops or dealing with the added stress of managing kids on crowded buses or trains.
Cost Efficiency for Groups
While private transfers are often seen as a premium service, they can be surprisingly cost effective for larger groups or families. Splitting the cost of a private transfer among multiple passengers can often result in a per person cost that is lower than other transport options especially when factoring in the added convenience and efficiency.
Airport to City Connectivity
Sydney is a vast city, and private transfers can connect you from the airport to various parts of the city efficiently. Whether you’re heading from Sydney Airport to the city center of exploring other areas like Bondi Beach or the Blue Mountains private transfers ensure

New Caledonia - New where?
When I was in a hostel in New Zealand there was an older traveler who started talking about the French Pacific island of New Caledonia.
I think somewhere in the back of mind I’d heard about it before, along with New Britain and New Ireland.
The older traveler said as schoolkids some Kiwis would travel to New Caledonia to practice their French instead of venturing all the way to metropolitan France.
Maybe I should explain to you where New Caledonia is, well as I said it’s in the Pacific Ocean, the south Pacific.
If you follow a line out east in the Pacific from Brisbane, halfway down the eastern side of Australia then you’re sure to bump into New Caledonia after a couple of hours.
To get to New Caledonia I flew from Sydney.
Not wanting to get up too early for my super early flight I spend the night in the airport, an experience I can’t recommend.
Bizarrely the airport shuts down at night, totally closes down, they shut the doors and everything.
The speaker system keeps going through the night though, advertising all sorts and playing songs.
The speakers seem louder as the airport empties out as there’s nothing for them to compete with.
The people overnighting in the airport were herded to an area with some soft backed chairs and our passports were checked by an ignorant Australian.
After about three hours sleep I was ready for my flight to New Caledonia, not really knowing what to expect.
The almost full Quantas flight is eventful.
The Quantas staff can’t speak French and when any of the mostly French passengers ask them anything they speak to them loudly in English hoping that theyll get some kind of message across.
As we come in to land we pass over turquoise shallows in the ocean.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I change some money in the airport and catch the public bus to the capital of Noumea, 41km away, which costs 400 Pacifc Francs.
I could have taken a door to door shuttle but that would have cost 50,000 Pacific Francs.
The only trouble is I don’t know which door I’m going to.
A lady on couchsurfing.org had said she’d be happy to have me stay for a couple of nights, but never gets back to me with any contact details.
Instead I head for the hostel, the only one on the whole island.
It’s run along military lines with a cupboard for everyone in the kitchen (with a lock) and a cupboard in the walk-in cold room (also with a lock). In the 4-bed dorm rooms there’s another cupboard (also with a lock), what kind of people do they have staying here?!
Tumblr media
It’s a Saturdy afternoon and the town (not really a city) is quiet and there’s not much open.
There seems to be a preponderance of optical stores and clothes shops, ah the French.
I find a sort of supermarket open, it sells a funny mix of things: child sized statues of the Holy Family covered in clingfilm; haircare products and a couple of aisles of mainly tinned and packaged foods.
Yet everyone in the queue to pay has an small armful of stuff as they hand notes to the sales assistant who manages to stuff them in the overfull cash register.
I buy some tinned ravioli there and some baguettes from the only bread shop I can find that’s open.
I have to make these ingredients do for the following day as well as there’s less open on Sunday than there was on Saturday.
I enjoy some of the bottle of French wine that I’d bought at the airport as the sale of all alcohol products is banned in shops and supermarkets from noon Friday to midnight Sunday.
This is to counter the social problems that New Caledonia suffers from relating the abuse of alcohol.
Yes, New Caledonia might prove to be difficult.

Arrived in Brisbane, Queensland(a state).
at the domestic airport. Like Sydney domestic and international airports are far apart it takes a shuttle bus to go from one to another. Skyline of Brisbane. A nice looking bridge. There is a park in the section of South Bank with Ferris Wheel and artificial beach complete with sands by the river. Kids area too. Many restaurants and snack shops. People like to sit on grass for picnicking and relaxing.

Arriving home at last!
Day 120     22 September
We had to be up early to get to the airport for our 10 am domestic flight to Seattle and thence to our international flight to Vancouver (back in Canada) later in the day.  We arrived in Vancouver about 7 pm but then had to wait ages for the hotel shuttle and didn’t arrive at our hotel until quite late - and dead tired.
Day 121-122/3     23-25 September
We were flying home today, but our flight wasn’t until 10.30 pm so we stayed in our room for as long as we could, before taking the shuttle to the airport where we had to sit around for 8 or 9 hours waiting to board.
We then suffered the standard awful flight home, including crossing the International Dateline again, and arriving back in Sydney around 6.30 am on 25 September.   We went through the Immigration and Customs process (their new technology has improved the process greatly) before sitting around again, waiting for our 11am flight home.
We arrived here in the early afternoon and as usual, our wonderful Bev had provided us a limo from the airport to home. We were delighted to be home again where everything is so much more familiar and comfortable.   Everything looked just like it should and our apartment welcomed us home with great aplomb.
Non-summary
I usually finish each blog with some interesting conclusions, some statistics, and my key impressions of the trip. In this case, however, the trip consisted of several distinctly different segments, some of which I summarised as we went along. In the circumstances, and particularly because I am posting this so long after the trip concluded (and so close to our next adventure), I will restrain myself and hang up my keyboard post haste!!! Adieu until next time.

Travelling can be stressful, especially when it comes to finding secure, convenient, and affordable parking. For many travellers, the hassle of navigating expensive on-site airport parking, long walks to the terminal, and security concerns can add unnecessary tension to their journey.
Luckily, there's a better solution. If you're searching for parking near the airport, our parking facility offers a stress-free, cost-effective alternative.
Tumblr media
Designed for both domestic and international travellers, we provide the convenience and peace of mind that airport parking should always deliver.
24 Hours Security
One of the biggest concerns when leaving your car for extended periods is security. That's why our parking facility is equipped with 24-hour security to ensure your vehicle remains safe while you're away. Unlike some airport parking options where surveillance may be limited, we have a comprehensive security system in place.
We know that your car is an important asset, so we've taken every step to ensure its safety. Whether you're gone for a day, a week, or longer, you can trust that your vehicle is protected.
Our security measures give travellers peace of mind, knowing their car is in good hands while they focus on their trip. With continuous surveillance, our facility stands out as a reliable and trustworthy option for airport parking.
400m from the Airport
Location is everything when it comes to parking near the airport, and our facility is ideally situated just 400 meters from the airport. This incredibly close proximity means you won't have to deal with long shuttle rides or inconvenient transfers. Once you've parked, you can be at the terminal in just minutes, making it one of the most convenient parking options available.
Whether you're running late or simply want to avoid the hassle of navigating airport traffic, our location provides a quick and easy transition from car to terminal.
This close distance is precious for families, business travellers, or anyone juggling luggage and tight schedules. Time saved on commuting from distant parking lots is time better spent relaxing before your flight.
Valet Parking
For travellers looking for an added level of convenience, we offer premium valet parking. Our valet service allows you to simply drop off your vehicle at our facility, and we'll handle the rest. There's no need to waste time searching for a parking spot or dealing with tight spaces. Instead, just hand over your keys, and our professional valet team will park your car for you. This service is perfect for those who want to minimise time spent parking, especially when dealing with the usual pressures of airport travel.
When you return, your car will be brought directly to you, ensuring a smooth, efficient exit. Whether you're in a rush to catch a flight or just want to make your travel experience a little more luxurious, our valet service is an excellent option.
Hand Car Wash
In addition to our parking services, we also offer a professional hand car wash service. While you're travelling, why not treat your car to a thorough cleaning? Our expert team will carefully wash and detail your vehicle by hand so it looks fresh and clean when you return.
Coming back to a clean, shiny car can be a pleasant surprise after a long trip, and our hand wash service ensures that your vehicle looks its best. It's one more way to make your parking experience as enjoyable and convenient as possible.
Conclusion
When it comes to parking Sydney airport, our facility offers a comprehensive range of services that make travel easier and more comfortable.
Next time you're heading to the airport, avoid the stress of on-site parking and choose our facility for affordable, secure, and convenient parking. It's the smart choice for travellers looking to simplify their airport experience.
