Inter European Airways was formed in 1987 by UK tour operator Aspro Travel. Initially starting its services from Cardiff and Manchester with Boeing 737 aircraft leased from GPA Guiness Peat Aviation, the fleet later grew to also include the Boeing 757 and ultimately the Airbus A320. G-IEAF was however only delivered new to Inter European in February 1993, shortly before its parent started merger talks with Airtours International that led to IEA's full integration into Airtours by October 1993.
