heyo if you're still in the mood to do prompts then uh fluff #23 or #16 or angst #11 + jalice (apparently the wrong people are getting hate for shipping jalice? clearly we need to be more visible)
CLEARLY! like shit! we can be their lightning rod of hate!also here’s a dosage of angst (ft. Maria) for U today my queen:
Angst - #11: “it’s over, it’s done, just leave it be.”
Even as they sped away, Alice could still smell it all.
The smoke, the fresh snow, the blood.
Even now, the smell of residual blood wasn’t quite fresh, per se, but it’s effects on her were still as potent as it was after the first hint hit her senses a few hours ago.
Letting her eyes wander toward her husband, she frowned when she noticed the dark red caked underneath his nails. His hands were gripping his knees tightly—fresh holes in his pants torn by his own fingers—as he stared out the car window and into the night.
It had been a handful of years since she’d smelled human blood that fresh so closely. She’d nearly forgotten how utterly appealing it was. Shaking her head she turned back toward the front of the car as she found herself shifting on the seats.
Emmett slowed down enough to make a sharp right before speeding up again. The sound as he shifted gears was deafening in the cab. Even Esme, in the seat beside him, was silent as they drove.
There were few things on this planet that Alice hadn’t seen coming.
She simply had never thought that Maria would be one of them.
“The snow on the road ahead is too deep already,” she spoke up after another stretch of silence. “Make a left at the next intersection.”
Emmett merely nodded. Alice made the mistake of looking at him in the rear-view mirror.
His red eyes made him look utterly menacing. It was the first time she’d seen them on him since meeting him, and he looked so very un-Emmett-like that it left her feeling so hollow.
Seeing the red on Esme was worse. She could still hear the woman’s mournful cries as if they’d never stopped and the guilt was suddenly fresh in Alice’s heart.
Jasper tightened his grip on his knees, and when a wave of self-loathing suddenly filled the car, Esme whimpered and Emmett swore. Jasper reigned it in quickly, shaking his head.
“Sorry.” He muttered, the first word he’d spoken since they’d jumped in the car a couple of hours ago. The negative emotion vanished from the air, and Esme finally turned in her seat.
“Jasper—”
“Don’t,” he spoke quietly, but firmly. “Please.”
Esme’s frown deepened—another thing that looked out of place on her lovely face—but she nodded and turned around regardless.
There was silence for a few more minutes before Jasper spoke up again, his words directed toward Alice.
“Is she still following us?”
Alice shook her head despite the fact that no one in the car was glancing her way. “She got bored after the first hour. She’s going to go watch the house burn from afar and then before dawn she’ll already be heading back down south.”
He didn’t react to that piece of information.
Alice bit back her sigh, turning to watch the snow in the darkness.
Carlisle, Edward, and Rosalie had been left behind to pick up the pieces. They would need to play the ‘mourning family’ role, and so would she. After they got to their destination and got settled, Alice would return to what they would be selling as a tragic, unexplainable fire. But of course it would be explained easily. A candle set too close to the curtains created a fiery inferno that claimed three of the seven Cullens as they slept.
So while Alice could return, her red-eyed loved ones would have to stay away and play dead.
The town would mourn, the family would need to set affairs in order, and then in a month they’d be able to disappear, too. Off to a new town to try and start again.
She kept her sight forward, mostly watching how the scene was still unfolding—after all, they needed corpses comparable in size. And while none of the human’s that Maria had corralled for her little ‘show’ had been as big as Emmett, Alice could see that the detectives wouldn’t look too harshly at specifics.
All they would see is that the kind Doctor Cullen and his nice family had been struck by tragedy, and questions about the ‘why’ wouldn’t matter to most people.
Alice figured she didn’t need to tell anyone how currently the biggest issue Edward and Carlisle were facing wasn’t fabrication of evidence, but rather attempting to keep Rosalie from racing headlong after Maria and killing the woman herself.
The fire currently destroying what theyd called home for the past three years would be put out infinitely easier than the ones fueling Rosalie’s rage.
“I may have to leave before we get there,” Alice spoke softly, hating how true the words are. She had originally been asked to stay to help set things in motion. It would also help to have her there as a link into their now-uncertain future.
But Jasper had been an absolute wreck—his future a constantly-changing maze that she could see no clear end to—and Alice couldn’t bring herself to part from him in the immediate aftermath of the madness.
It also didn’t help that the visions she gotten of him, running from their family—from her— had nearly solidified themselves in her brain.
It was exactly what Maria wanted from him, and both she and Edward knew that.
So when she informed Carlisle she had to go with them, at least for a little while, Edward had quietly backed up her claim. And, newcomers as they were, Alice knew that although Carlisle didn’t exactly fully trust her and Jasper yet, he trusted Edward unflinchingly.
She turned toward her husband, her eyes locking on his bloodied up wedding band, and her heart broke.
Reaching over she placed her hand over his. She saw him wrestle with himself for a couple seconds, so when he pulled his hand out of her grip she wasn’t shocked by it.
But it still hurt.
“Jazz—”
“No.”
“I don’t want you going anywhere.”
“I’m not,” he spoke coldly.
Alice could feel Emmett’s eyes on them through the rearview mirror, but she ignored him.
“That’s not what I see,” her words were barely more than a whisper as she pulled her hand back fully.
And just like that, the visions of him running off disappeared, replaced by a certain, solid vision of Jasper remaining with Emmett and Esme for the foreseeable future. Relief poured through her, but even still, she didn’t want him to isolate himself like this.
“Don’t do this,” she muttered quietly, reaching out again and placing her hand on his leg, “don’t cut yourself off from us. It’s not—”
“Do not say it’s not my fault,” his voice was quiet, but angry.
“It’s not, it’s Maria’s—”
“Alice,” he snapped, “It’s over. It’s done. Just leave it be.”
Emmett slamming on the brakes nearly sent the pair flying forward in their seats. Of course with their reflexes they’d only had to lift an arm, only shifting slightly over the leather.
But Emmett’s low growl was nearly as loud as the engines roar.
“It’s okay,” Alice smiled toward where Emmett was currently turning in his seat, glaring daggers at Jasper. Leaning forward she pecked the hulking vampire on the cheek, before turning to give Esme an embrace. “I’ll be more useful back ho—back in Calgary.” She leaned back and opened the door, the snow blowing into the cab. “Be safe, I’ll call when I see you arrive at Tanya’s.”
Shooting her husband one final glance, she chose not to speak. Instead, she focused on her love for him, the intensity of her concern, and her joy that she’d found since he’d entered her life.
And with those emotions she left, running off into the night.
#jalice#twilight saga#twilight fanfiction#Alice cullen#jasper hale#volturialice#bc im convinced that when Maria visited them it was more than Edward played it off as in eclipse#I mean im sure it was also 120 times more dramatic than this random scene I've painted#but still#Asked Her To Keep Her Distance?#Considers Himself On Good Terms With Her?#not in My canon!

(( I thought I won’t be able to finish this, but tada! Thank you to @clove-teasdale @ladyallegrahannon and @claraeclair ! for the RP <3 I hope you like the edit I made, guys. Well, that’s all))
From cold to perfect.
*Plop* The sound of my notebook against the carpeted floor of my room, made me startle in my light sleep. I opened my eyes remembering I was working on a sketch before snoozing, sitting on my bed. I took my cellphone from the night table next to me and checked the time: 7:13 am. I had slept exactly, 1 hour. 5 hours before my nerves didn’t let me sleep, so, instead of start tossing and turning all over the bed, I had decided to draw until dawn. The random strokes made with charcoal pencil were slowly taking the form of a blurry but beautiful flower.
I lay my head back on my smooth pillow. This probably was the first time I had been awake this early without the need of, at least, 3 alarms on my phone. It surely was because the big day had finally arrived. In a few hours I had to be in Likely to meet 3 of the selected, from the neighbouring provinces. Allegra, Clove, Clara I repeated on my head, staring at the white big ceiling of my room, just to be sure I hadn’t forgot any of them.
Despite the very few hours of sleep I felt full of energy. I was happy to had the opportunity to meet new people, genuine people... hopefully; and it was a matter of hours until I meet Prince Nathaniel in person. I pictured his face in my mind and it put a smile on my face almost unconsciously, hoping he turn out to be the humble, nice and funny person he had always seemed to be on TV.
...But what will he think of me?
A little question mark of worry began to tingle in my stomach. I started wondering if he knew me. I was a two, but I was a model, not everyone is that interested in fashion. What really was worrying me was that his father had ever mentioned my mom’s name to him, that certainly would be unfortunate. I massaged my temples and shook the negative thoughts out of my head, there was still a small chance that he had heard my middle name before; but the queen…
Queen Aubrey! She is going to hate me…
I run one hand over my face. Whichever was the case it was too late for regrets, the only thing I could do is made my best to be myself and to made a great impression, there.
I was about to get up when someone knocked on my door. “Wake up, miss, you have to get ready to go” I heard Camila talking from the other side of the door.
“I’m up, Cam, thank you” I shouted
“You are?” She asked surprised.
“Yeeees” I chuckled at her disbelief tone “I will be down in 10 min”
After a quick shower I went down the stairs wearing the white t-shirt and black pants every selected were supposed to wear. I entered to the dining room and noticed there was just one place settled on the large, marble table.
“Miss, you should turn on the TV, they are streaming your speech, again!” Said Camila entering the room carrying a silver platter with my breakfast.
“Camila, you have watched that video thousands of times this week, I don’t know why they keep showing that on TV, it wasn’t even a good speech, besides, the people keep complaining about me for not speaking in front of all the citizens” I acknowledge, taking my place by the table.
Mayor Rossell wanted to do a public farewell event for me downton, so everyone could assist, but Loretta rejected his offer, without even consulting me and she invited him to our after runway private party to make his speech in front of the cameras, and of course after that I had had to say some words too. I was unprepared and nervous, but I finally managed to be short and concise. I thank everyone for their support
...In case there was someone supporting me, someone besides my mom.
And I promised to represent our province with pride and dignity; which, based on the comments I saw on TV, they didn’t believe.
They were all concerned that another Castello was going to represent the province; and honestly, I couldn't blame them, since Loretta wasn’t what they expected, the last selection, but I was determined to show them I was nothing like her.
Speaking of which …
“Cam, where’s Loretta?” I asked knowing the answer, already.
“She left early this morning, she said she had a meeting with her publishers, but promised to be here before you leave”
“Huh” I scoffed biting my avocado toast.
After breakfast I went back upstairs to finish packing my sketch notebook, my drawing pencils and some personal stuff; after that I find myself letting the time pass on purpose, just in case my mom was delayed by something else at work, but Peter was waiting for me outside to drive me to Calgary’s airport and there a private jet waiting for me to take me to Likely, where I would met the rest of the ladies who would be also waiting for me; I just couldn’t be more late.
Downstairs the service staff was waiting in line by the door to say goodbye. I shook their hands and they all wished me luck. Camila was carrying Moe for me to say goodbye to him with a tight hug and a kiss; when I raised my gaze back to her, she was looking at me with pity, and I understood it was because Loretta wasn’t there to say goodbye, but I was used to it. My mom had always prefered her work over me, it had happened thousands of times, so it wasn’t a tragedy for me anymore. That’s what I told myself.
On my way to the airport I received a text message
“The meeting extended. Go win that thing! Remember your promise”
I pressed the reply button and tap “... I love you” knowing if I would had send it, I wouldn’t got a reply.
As I descended from the jet I could felt I wasn’t in Calgary anymore; even when the sun was hiding behind the hundreds of clouds, the weather was so much warmer than the one of my city. I took out my sweater and checked the time on my phone; I was only 10 minutes late, but I quickened my step as I entered to the airport looking for the correct gate. When I finally found it I could see two ladies wearing white and black as I was, chatting and eating cookies, I searched for the third girl with my eyes, but if she had arrived, already she wasn’t anywhere near to be seen. When I got closer, I was able to identify them. The one with black curly hair was Clove and the blonde, holding the big plate of cookies was Clara.
“Hey! Sorry I’m a little late. Have you been waiting long for me? I asked them, although I instantly regret having interrupted their conversation in such a disrespectful way
“...took a gap year. And hi! Would you like a cookie.....Stephanie?” I was surprised by her offer, feeling ashamed for not bringing anything for them. I was not a big fan of sweets but the cookies had a good aspect, also I they still smell like they were baked minutes ago.
“Sure, thank you” I took one and gave it a small bite “mmhm! they are good!” And it was quite unique. Those cookies could have made me a sugar lover.
“Thank you! What do you do for work? Clove and I were just talking about that, she's taken a gap year.” I guessed Clove noticed I was still chewing because she waved at me and answered Clara’s question.
“Now I'm taking a break from my gap year. Really hard work.”
“Oh! … so you are taking time to make a good choice, I guess.” I felt slightly jealous of her being able to have a brake to clear her mind. In my case, even if the castes didn’t exist I wouldn’t have much of a choice, since I have been a model since I was 5 years old.
“Speaking of choices, why did you both apply for this anyways?” Clara asked, again
I was carefully thinking on my answer when Clove reply almost automatically “Haven't been in the palace for a while... thought I might as well apply for the experience of it” I raised my elbows in surprise.
She had been in the palace before!
Clara seemed to be as surprised as me “You've been before?”
“Wow, I wasn’t expecting that!” I explained. I can’t help but wonder if she was friends with Nate and his siblings.
“Oh.. yeah, well, my dad gets to go there a lot so..” I was about to asked about his dad profession when the fourth lady finally arrived.
“Good morning. I’m Allegra”. A white skinned girl greeted us. Clara offered her a cookie smiling.
We spent more time chatting about how good we all were at baking and Clara was the clear winner; she promised to give us classes some time. I felt relieved and happy to be surrounded by these three girls, all nice in their own way.
As soon as we boarded the plane, each one of us picked a place by one window. Clove was sitting at my right hand looking outside with her headphones on, sometimes she moved her feet instinctively to the rhythm. Clara sit behind me and I could see Allegra behind Clove’s seat, reading a novel that, judging by her expression, was really interesting. I was focused on finishing the flower drawing I had started a night before, when insomnia decided to make me a visit.
Suddenly the voice of the pilot made us all, focus on fasten our seatbelts and to prepare ourselves for the takeoff.
“Are you okay?” I turned to figured out who was Clove talking to and gasped when I noticed Clara has a frightened face almost pale.
“What’s wrong? It was my turn to ask
“Is everything alright?” Allegra joined our concerned
“I've just never been on a plane before… I’m a little nervous” Clara finally answered. I didn’t know what to do, I had forgotten that not all of us had been able to travel by plane, so, the first thing that came to my mind was trying to get some help or maybe some medicine for her, but Clove was sure that what she needed was to calm down.
“No no, I'm sure it'll be fine. It’s just a little … well, a lot of air that we'll be above in a nice tin.” Clara said nervously.
“Would you like some water maybe?” Allegra suggested.
“I'll just eat a cookie. I'm sure the sugar will help me calm down.” She assured us, like it had helped her before.
“This is a nicer tin can than you think, don't worry too much about it. Think of it as a means of transport said Clove as she took a cookie for herself and leaned on her chair. “Like a car per say. You're not scared of cars, are you?... Sure, things can go wrong in both, but the probabilities of that are slim, so you don't worry about it when you get on a car. Why should you worry about it on a plane?”
“I'm sure it is. One of us could possibly be the queen one day, I’m sure they wouldn’t put us in a poorly made flying container. And you're right I did occasionally get in cars and though they were scary at first they aren't anymore. There's nothing to actually worry about here” Clara said, looking so much calmer. Color have returned to her cheeks and her muscles were noticeably more relaxed.
“It's always hard the first time, but then you will like to go everywhere by plane” I joked winking at her. Clove nodded in agreement and bite her cookie again.
“That’s crazy to think isn’t it? There are 31 other girls but one of us could be the future queen” Allegra added suddenly changing the subject. The thought of it gave me chills, not sure if it was excitement or concerning.
“Clove would make an excellent queen, she’s so level headed, and Allegra you just look so regal, and Stephanie you're sweet enough all of the people would love you.” I was impressed by Clara’s words, I didn’t understand how could she make all those conclusions in just a few hours of meeting us; clearly she was the sweetest one because nobody had ever said those things about me and made them sound so genuine.
I’m sure there’s people out there who might like me, but I could also think about many more who didn’t “If you only knew” I said, not knowing if I had really say it or it was part of my thoughts. “...but thanks” I added. Suddenly I understood that they not knowing who my mother was and all the mean things the press had always published about me, was an excellent opportunity for me to start from the beginning and not being hunted by Loretta’s shadow.
Angeles’ weather had always been the most perfect one of the whole country; not cold, sunny but not overwhelming and despite of being a city, it has fresh air.
When we get off the plane, thousands of people were waiting for us, to greet us and take some pictures; not to mentioned the cameras that had been following us since we left our houses. I waved at the crowd from far away and as we approached the airport’s door, we stopped for time to time to shake hands and sign autographs.
We got in the government car that was waiting for us and in a few minutes we were at the Angele’s Palace. I had visited it thousands of times, I even remembered taking pictures of the amazing architecture, but I had never entered.
There weren’t much time to admire the glory of it because as soon as we got inside a woman took us to a room called by her as the “women’s room”. When I heard the name of it, I remembered my mom had mentioned it, before.
“... and the nerdy ones, who couldn’t stop pretending to be refined, used to spend all day at the women’s room drinking tea and reading books”
But the room didn’t seemed to me like a place where you can read. There were a lot of people walking from one place to another with all kind of beauty accessories; it was an exciting flurry of activity that runs through each selected, stylist, makeup artist and the ones in charge of the dresses.. It reminds me of the backstage just before the runway. I smiled at the familiarity I was feeling.
The same tall and sophisticated woman, made each one of us sit in a different chair, and every chair was in front of a big mirror and a table full of makeup stuff. Seriously, between that scenario and the backstage runway was only one difference; it seemed like every movement was just in time, no one was stressed and no one was rushing.
“...When they told me I was going to do Stephanie Castello’s makeover, I just couldn’t believe it!” I looked for the man’s face in the mirror and I found a not so short man with a extravagant hairstyle coming towards me with two ladies at his right. I just could smile at them.
“Hi, I’m Tiziano” he grinned as if he was about to say some kind of secret “And I used to work for Loretta Castello, years ago”
There it is
“Oh, whatever she did to you, I apologize” I said almost joking, but not really. My mom wasn’t the most lovable and comprehensive mom.
He laughed “No, no, no. I quit because the government offered me a job, and here I am, but I know what you meant” He said moving his hands with every word he said, as it was a rehearsed choreography. “Just please don’t tell her you saw me here” he said laughing
Joking, but not really.
“I won’t say anything, I promise” I said raising my hand.
“You are a sweetheart. These ladies are going to do your makeup and nails and I’m in charge of the hair, okay?” I nodded “Okay… “ He continued examining my each one of my curls.
“You are thinking in get rid of the curls, don’t you?” I said in a worried tone
He looked at my face in the mirror and nodded biting his lip as if he was worried too “Don’t you worry, piccola Castellonie, it will be temporary, I promise to bring them back to you whenever you want” He promised giving me his business card.
“Alright then…” I said shrugging “...do what you want with it” I ruffled my curls and he winked at me.
The makeovers took some time, while Tiziano and the ladies worked on me, I decided to scroll on my phone to pass the time; also I was constantly turning my head to see how the ladies were going. I had Allegra on my left and Clara on my right; every time I turned to see them, there was something different on their looks. When makeup and hair was done they took us to a improvised dressing room. My dress was beautiful, I felt the smooth silk between my fingers and stare at the amazing design; I can’t help but wonder who was involved in such an impeccable and unique piece. I put it on and looked at myself in the mirror. My image made my heart skip a bit. It wasn’t the dress, or the perfect makeup, or the missing curls; it was because I had just realized the selection was really happening and I was in it.

Holley LS Fest West: Third Stage Ignition!
Fans of the new-gen small-block Chevy light the third stage of the LS rocket!
For guys who like power, standing in the midway of the Holley LS Fest West is a surreal experience. To one side is a three-acre patch of pavement where Corvettes and Camaros are pounding hard through cones, on the other side is the drag strip where doorslammers grapple for traction and reach for the sky, and above your head is a formation of F-18 Hornets on full afterburner screaming overhead. Even the interstate highway adjacent to the track has a 75mph speed limit that folks back east can only dream of. There is so much octane in the air here that one becomes nearly giddy with the overload of choices.
The Grand Champion Road Course Challenge happens at the 1.7-mile road course at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Here, competitors are segregated into groups for their experience and vehicle performance.
The irony is that perhaps three days is simply too short to enjoy all the stuff you want to see and do at the Holley LS Fest West, which is presented in 2018 by Car Craft magazine (May 4 – 6, 2018). As Sunday unfolds—the third and final day of LS Fest West—spectators, drivers, vendors, and the press have a newfound sense of urgency: having leisurely watched one or two of their favorite things for two days, the realization sets in that there’s a whole bunch of cool stuff they haven’t yet experienced.
The Holley LS Fest West is a family-friendly event, which is why Kevin Mullen brought his two daughters, Kyndall (2) and Jayde (5). “I like this car because it’s purple!” says Kyndall. We like it too, but the transplanted LS3 is what got us excited.
Among the activities we’ve yet to report on are the Grand Champion Road Course Challenge, the DiabloSport Side Show Donut Pit, the Hoover Dam Poker Run, the Off-Road Challenge, the Hoonigan Thunderdome, the S3 Challenge, the Off-Road Challenge, and the burnout contest. (We’re forgetting some for sure…) And we’re usually quite happy with just drag racing, a car show, and some autocross! In the end, however, we just couldn’t get to all of these things, but we made a really strong effort.
When we saw Andy Trujillo’s 1972 C-10 in the pits on Saturday, we perhaps didn’t fully understand how violent a ride it is with its F1x Procharger, Holley HP EFI, and 427ci LS3. Andy had it on the bumper for a solid 100 feet.
For all but a few who live in the area, Las Vegas as a motorsports destination is a pretty grueling journey from any corner of the country, but the payoff on that investment—if it’s LS Fest West—is huge. Holley has always been at the forefront of performance and innovation, so we don’t find it strange that they also apply the same level of excellence as it pertains to event planning. All we can say is that Car Craft is proud to be a part of such a well-oiled machine.
Max Ziebell’s 2005 Subaru Legacy GT wagon is just one of many imports turning to LS power. The lesson here that foreign automakers need to learn is that Americans want V8 power. Toyota, Nissan, and even Hyundai have V-8s in their portfolio already, but apparently have no idea what to do with them. Little car + big engine = much fun!
Among the highlights from day 3 was the Hoonigan Thunderdome. These guys had a self-contained sideshow that was part car show, cage match, giveaway, smoke show, and demolition derby. Hoonigan even brought their own grandstands and a bumpin’ PA system to really get the crowd involved. (The Hoonigan fans were by far the most animated spectators at LS Fest West.) With no real quantifiable scale or clock to define performance, it’s all about how much the driver wants to thrill the crowd, and how much the crowd and emcee can encourage the driver.
Dario Gaiga (Calgary, Alberta) heats the tires before another 8-second pass in his 1976 Chevy Chevette. Remember what we said about little car + big engine = much fun? Here’s an example for ya! It weighs 2,350 (empty) and is powered by a stock 5.3L short-block with older CNC-ported NASCAR Camping World Truck Series heads and twin Borg-Warner S369 turbos.
Elsewhere, car crafters and drivers focused on their driving skill and track set-up for the Grand Champion Challenge, a timed road course event on the 1.7-mile road course. Wide open with lots of safe run-off area, the high-speed grip facility had drivers exploiting the power of their LS engines with abandon. Here, new Corvettes and Camaros diced it up with LS-swapped muscle cars, trucks, and imports. Drivers were divided into groups based on their level of experience and equipment; this avoids problems associated with faster cars closing in on slower cars—something neither group wants.
QA1 always has new suspension goodies coming out, and Eric Morrow was pretty excited about their front suspension for Chevy C-10 trucks. “We can get your C-10 to handle like a sportscar,” Eric told us about QA1’s modular system. Priced competitively, the pieces in their C-10 system can be added as time and money allows. (www.QA1.net, 800-721-7761) You can also choose to retain a stock coil spring/shock set-up, or convert to a single- or double-adjustable coilover shock.
In a first for us, we also took in the Off-Road Challenge at the dirt track. (Those who want to see what it’s all about should go to the Car Craft Facebook page to watch the playback of the live video feed.) We were impressed with the level of car building this requires, as these vehicles really take a beating when they launch off dirt ramps and come down hard. The course had been specially prepared by professional off-roaders with bumps, jumps, and banked turns.
Brian Monello (near lane) goes heads-up against Blade Boubon in the finals for LS 275 Outlaw.
Taking a more balanced approach to street performance was the Baer Brakes 3S Challenge. Think of it as a drag race, but with turns and stopping. (3S stands for speed, stop, steer.) Two cars run simultaneously in parallel tracks with opposite turns, then switch lanes and do it again. The two left-/right-side times are added together, and the fastest aggregate e.t. is the winner. This exercise happened where the regular autocross had been for Friday and Saturday, but was re-coned for the new layout.
Rick Shewell (ST. George, UT) must be a solid friend to car owner Bret Madsen, because Bret left Rick to do the dirty work on his 413ci, 2.9L Whipple-charged, LS3-powered ’68 Camaro! The new set-up had teething problems and needed a colder set of plugs to quell some detonation issues.
With each successive year, Holley and their partner tracks (Beech Bend and The Strip At Las Vegas) develop and refine ways to improve the driver and spectator experience, and as a result LS Fest and LS Fest West are two of the most professionally run events we attend all year. (And that’s a LOT of events.) With all this goodness coming to fans of the new-gen Chevy small-block, we have to wonder when the same attention will be paid to Chrysler Hemi and Ford Coyote fans. Yes, there are plenty of events and promoters catering to that audience, but it just isn’t the same. Holley truly has the DNA of running an engine-specific event down pat, and when they do turn their attention to the others, they will be winners for sure!

The Hoonigan Thunderdome was filled with a raucous crowd looking for some vicarious thrills. At this specific moment frozen in time, the crowd and emcee have just convinced this Chevy truck owner to jump the “double-stack” ramp. You think it broke? You’ll have to dig into the gallery to see!
At the 1.7-mile road course, the action was a little less destructive, but certainly just as fun. Here, a ZL1 Camaro is reeling in a C5 Corvette during qualifying for the Grand Champion Road Course Challenge.
We were surprised to find out that until Greg Reimche of LSX Concepts designed a Gilmer belt drive for LS-series engines, none were available. Greg stands proudly next to the drive system he engineered specifically for the LSA crate motor. LSX Concepts can do any kind of custom accessory drive or blower drive system for an LS engine, but Greg says right now he’s specializing in systems for the LSA. (www.lsxconcepts.com, 844-579-7927)
This photo is strictly gratuitous. It brings back warm, nostalgic feelings of the custom van era; boy do we we miss it! The folks at Wide Body Syndicate own it and use it to move their booth full of swag wear.

Frozen Charlotte.
The flow around Cwm Idwal which enjoys the 4 optimals that encompass the mountain pond, Idwal, is quite a walk. Mountain bikes have the tendency to weight much more than the city street patterns and hence you really have to enjoy that your position is going to have your bike well. The majority of mountain passes measuring below 2000 m are actually finalized during the course of the winter - off November to April (sometimes gone over to Might). Entrepreneurs possess a good main reason to be saddened if brewer sales at Veggie Mountain and starter set purchases at SodaStream anticipate the future. After using a mountain bike for over 5 years now I have ended up being fairly the expert biker on a mountain bicycle. Backpacking: Rocky Mountain Range National Park has 5 drive-in camping areas and one drive-in group outdoor camping place. That night after discovering the citadel and also the much larger cave that started to snowfall and compelled J.H. Yeoman down the mountain as well as to safety. When a cooler air mass relocates into a location of warmer sky in the wake up of a creating extratropical cyclone, Cold weather fronts form. Boyne Highlands has a vertical drop of 552 feets as well as Boyne Mountain has a vertical fall of FIVE HUNDRED feets. Just what I have found in the place is the monitors where the buck wagons steel tires have actually reduced ruts in to the granite outcrops as they fell the mountain with secured brakes. Today is a holiday season here so my child and I will certainly remove to climb up a considerably smaller hill. The overseas winds blow the warmer surface waters out to ocean, as well as this is substituted by chilly water coming from the deep, which is higher in nutrients. The economical scenario is actually the key factor you can purchase a low-priced house in many component of the nation. Filled with mountain range peaks, icecaps, waterfalls, cantons resources as well as limestone caverns, this costs the 5 hour travel from Calgary. The capital will have been actually made use of for more funding intensive businesses along with Buffett's own financing requirements - that being buying sells when they come to be inexpensive. Even when only a tiny amount of the assumed explorers come to Image de Bugarach by December 21st if will still place a huge pressure on the little non-urban areas near the mountain. An extra recent medical explanation was actually suggested by a study group coming from Appalachian State Educational institution that made trips to the mountain range on many events. Without preparing to, I right now know I have started an experience, a goal mission, and also I am traveling up a spiritual mountain in the abundant and crazy empire of Gaia. You could receive a rebate mountain bike for also less compared to half from the market rate.

Growing up on a farm, riding horses became a way of life, an entertainment, a source of competition, even my social life involved horses, and horse people. There was nothing wrong this of course, and now I look back fondly on my memories of the tack shed, the stables and yes, even the countless hours grooming for shows, hunts and equine school.
Somewhere between the first several years of horse riding, dad brought home an old red motorbike. It was more of a wreck than an actual motorcycle. It had a birds nest of wires hanging out from where the motorcycles brains should be, and there was rust where the chrome should have been shining. The bike sat proudly on the back verandah covered by a tarpaulin.
As the years went past, the cold and wet winter riding sessions took their toll. Horses are amazing animals, grounded and therapeutic, but they take a lot of effort. There’s dragging hay bales across swamped paddocks, hard feeding, and plaiting manes when your fingers are so cold you can’t feel what your doing. Then one night at a family dinner I saw a movie. Not just any movie but a movie with Vanilla Ice acting as a main character in “Cool as Ice”. The year was 1991. Jim Bolger was Prime Minister of New Zealand, and suddenly motorcycles, the status symbol of coolness, shone a light on my horizon.
I remember sneaking out onto the back verandah when my parents went out, frantically trying to work out which wires went where, and kicking the crank lever to see if I could get the bike fired up. Without any idea what I was doing, I was doomed to failure. Looking on in amusement from across the lawn were a 15 hands high grey Gelding named Sonny. My show horse. “What an idiot”, he must have thought. “That bike doesn’t even have its ignition coil” !!! I liked the idea of being able to move without effort.
A couple of years later, and long after that old bike had been given to someone that knew what they were doing, I was still high in the saddle, now with an affliction to Western Style riding, I tried to re-enact riding scenes filmed in Monument Valley, Montana and Calgary. Anything to create a little more excitement from my meander tasks that had become routine on the farm. I even had a stick whip, and pretended to be Jim Craig out of “The Man from Snowy River”, and Clint Eastwood out of “Long Plains Rider”. Sure competition days were fun, I even participated in a few mock hunts (there’s not actually any wild foxes in New Zealand by the way) to mix things up as Rodeo back then in NZ was like snowboarding was in the ski fields. Not a viable main stream option. I still however, longed for the feel of fresh air at 80km/hr on a leather seat of a motorcycle.
I guess the attraction more than anything was the knowledge that the exhilaration of speed came without effort. You just swing your leg over the bike, turn a key, and in seconds you would be going fast. No grooming, picking out hoofs, saddling up was required. I was becoming a lazy idealistic youth !!
On my 15th birthday, I sat my drivers license, and passed. It seems those lessons in the paddock steering the old Land Rover while sitting on dads knee, had paid off. Within months I had a shiny red CG105 motorcycle made by Honda. It had a single cylinder, a chrome exhaust and hanging indicators. It cost all of $6 to fill and I polished it after every ride. It was my pride and joy. I never stopped riding though.
Finally I was cool !! I wore dads old oilskin half jacket (the closest thing to real leather I could find) and to top off the coolness, I wrapped a black and white scarf around my neck just like the guy out of “The Gumball Rally” that rode the motorcycle. Suddenly my world had opened up. I could see friends that usually I’d have to wait for school to see (we lived in a country town, my friends lived miles away), and I had the world in front of me. I even joined the local Volunteer Fire Brigade. I was a man !!! The man !!!
With horses, riding is a calculated risk based on experience and skill. It takes years of equine school (Pony Club) the become a proficient rider able to tame even the most difficult of horses (something I actually really enjoy even to this very day). Motorcycles, it seems are very similar. A horse has a personality, a mode and temperament, and a horse can also tell if your mood isn’t right, and reacts accordingly. A motorcycle doesn’t. It doesn’t care if your tired, fatigued mentally after helping put out a scrub fire for the past 4 hours. Exhausted and mentally incapable of making educated decisions – like leaving the fires station, and instead of going straight home, thinking it was a good idea to ride down twisty road to see a mate.
So there I was, sore, bleeding and in shock after trying to take a corner faster than I should have, and riding deep down into the ditch on the side of the road. Now for those of you that don’t know what a country ditch is like. Its nothing like a gutter you see on the side of the road in the suburbs. Its about 4 feet deep and has gravel on one side and clay on the other. So there I was. Still sitting on my pride possession, cheap leather gloves ripped open, helmet visor gone, and not quite sure what had just happened. But man, did I feel strong !! I dragged my bike up out of the ditch, started it up, and continued my ride to my friends house. I had no hand brake, no right mirror or indicators, but like an injured soldier, I couldn’t leave a fellow soldier in the field. I headed for my friends. Dad arrived soon with the trailer just as I was feeling nauseous from the shock and took the bike and I home.
I’d fallen off numerous horses over the years, and always got back on. Reluctantly sometimes, but I did. My bike sat motionless in the garage for months after Dad fixed it up for me. I couldn’t get the thought out of my head that motorcycles are too easy, and that without effort (like you put into horses before riding them), the respect for the dangers encountered by riding a motorcycle were greater than the enjoyment. My next vehicle was a car.
25 years have passed since that night. I’ve had numerous bikes over the years, and have been lucky enough ( I use the word loosely ), not to have relived that night. Luck does pay a huge part nowadays with the introduction of driver distractive devices such as mobile phones, GPS inputs etc that puts a motorcycle rider in danger every time he/she rides.
I admittedly don’t ride as often as I used to, I have friends that ride, and when i visit home, but funnily enough, I’d happily trade the bike in on a horse. I now really enjoy the processes involved in horse riding. Like brewing a good cup of coffee, the walking into the paddock, calling the horse, grooming, saddling up and then, just like taking that first sip from the fresh cup, you climb on and start your your ride, knowing this is the reward for the effort you’ve just put in.
I used to wish for a life of excitement, technology, speed, the more the better. Now grown up, and living close to the city, I have technology, a motorcycle, and access to speed/the fast life, and like many people my age, we look forward to slowing down a little, maybe buying a farm, and yes, of course…. some horses.
How times have changed.
The two wheeled Cowboy Growing up on a farm, riding horses became a way of life, an entertainment, a source of competition, even my social life involved horses, and horse people.
