i want to stick them in a bottle and shake it. they loved each other for the fantasy they could provide: of safety, security, someone who couldn't leave, proof you could help another person, the escapism of being loved. they were scared of each other. the empty mansion

they were scared of each other ohhhhhh you get it. I think escapism is great word to describe c!beeduo’s relationship.

Do I think they found genuine comfort and companionship in each other? At times yes. But I think the more they began memorializing those feelings in marriage (/p or /r, though I especially like this particular read with a /r flavor) the further they got from the feelings themselves. I think despite Tubbo’s character being very blunt at times and seemingly not filtering his thoughts before he speaks them, both he and Ranboo suffered deeply from avoidance as a coping mechanism and poor communication full of half-truths.

Neither of these characters are comfortable with discomfort. While Ranboo grows throughout the story enough to show us that they can bloom out of their need to please and mediate at all times—i.e. the sass & attitude they are able to show with people like Techno, Phil, and even Tubbo, the assertiveness they are able to show in defense of their friends transforming into assertiveness for themself as well, etc.—they are still prone to switch back to their people-pleasing tendencies when faced with uncertainty.

Similarly, while Tubbo did not start out on the server as a people-pleaser, he had to learn to be one once he served under Schlatt, had to learn to de-escalate, to mediate, and to be attuned to an abuser's cues to follow them, and attuned to their triggers to avoid them. The same could be said of his time away from Manberg having to navigate Wilbur's emotional state in Pogtopia with Tommy, though he encountered this less often. With his time under Schlatt culminating in the ultimate consequence of a canon death for his grievances, Tubbo has never really been able to shake this habit off.

When he is appointed as president of New L'Manberg, the stakes only seem to get higher for him, as he has to apply the survival skills he learned as an abuse victim in a diplomatic setting. He is a cautious leader, aiming first and foremost to avoid involving NLM in any conflicts, but sometimes ignoring real issues as a result until they boil over into something he can no longer control. At the same time, he develops an ability to be commanding when necessary, has to learn as a leader that sometimes he will make choices that no one else agrees with, and he will need to be able to exert a level of control over his people that ensures they follow his lead even when they disagree. He has to convince his peers, his elders, to respect him, and must learn a cold and demanding tone that will show his peers he is not just the carefree kid to be walked all over that he once was.

And this is the Tubbo that Ranboo meets for the first time. Ranboo comes to the SMP without any knowledge of the history of the place, of the carnage that has only just passed for every character in one way or another. In a time where all of Tubbo’s relationships have become complicated by their history, Ranboo is a clean slate. Furthermore, they are a clean slate that listens. Ranboo allows Tubbo to define his new self to them without pre-existing expectations. Similarly, Tubbo is someone that acts as a perfect welcome point for Ranboo to the server. They formed bonds with several people on the server, many of which, while supportive, were ultimately preoccupied with actively unfolding personal dramas. His bond with Tubbo worked out especially well, as not only was Tubbo around his age, but he had several reasons to remain as a point of stability. He could not move geographically as the president of NLM. He could not make any rash decisions or else the nation would face the consequences.

Ranboo became immediately involved in the NLM space, and with his growing acquaintanceship with Tubbo decided to run as his rival in presidential candidate. Although Tubbo was sure to win at this point, having someone who was ultimately proving to be in his corner as a ‘rival’ was incredibly refreshing and reassuring.

For Tubbo, Ranboo was a new and constant reminder that he didn’t need to do this alone. For Ranboo, Tubbo was a charming and competent but clearly troubled peer that he wanted to support and learn more about.

It’s at this point when they are growing their closest that Ranboo really starts running into steeper issues with his memory loss and fears of hurting his friends during his blackouts. When his memory book is revealed to Tubbo at the Green Festival, Tubbo defends Ranboo against both Dream’s accusations and later Quackity’s suggestion that Ranboo be executed as a traitor. After agonizing for so long about what his peers would think of him if they knew about his blackouts, Ranboo learns just as Tubbo did that Tubbo is in their corner too, and they don’t have to face this alone.

Where Ranboo was able to help Tubbo through his presidency, Tubbo wants to help Ranboo too. Tubbo offers to help with his memory issues but doesn’t go about it in a way that Ranboo is receptive to. It’s also by this point that doomsday has passed, NLM is gone, Dream is imprisoned, Snowchester is built. Finally the constant worry of the worst is over—the worst has happened. They have moved away from politics, for better or worse. Dream is out of the immediate picture for better or worse. This should be the time where beeduo can finally thrive in peace together.

However, being out of a space where survival is the first thing on the mind at all times, both Tubbo and Ranboo are left with themselves to face. For Tubbo, this means years of trauma that he has truly yet to unpack. They find even moreso that Tubbo is prone to shutting down, to chasing distractions, to starting projects rather than facing his pain. Ranboo, as much as a support he has tried to be, has also found that he might rather address his memory problems on his own, not seeing eye to eye with Tubbo on how to handle them, and finding support outside of Tubbo alone (read: the syndicate).

Ranboo and Tubbo at this point have become more openly affectionate towards each other, in words and in gestures, but the core of what began their bond seems to grow more distant. They still find satisfaction with each other, but things seem least complicated when they don’t talk about their real issues, things are most comfortable when they simply build their ideal life, live new adventures without facing their pasts or presents too closely.

When Tommy dies in the prison, it’s like the final nail in the coffin. Tubbo is beyond any point of seriously sitting with his emotions for too long, but this breaks over a line not previously crossed. Tubbo is forced again to face his profound loss of control over the things in his life. He needs something permanent, he needs something ensured.

Ranboo is drowning in guilt, in fear of his continued involvement of what may have contributed to Tommy’s death. He is afraid and he is distraught and he still has Tubbo.

He and Tubbo get married at truly their lowest moment in a while. This is great as a pick me up. Again there’s that reassurance that at the end of the day they’re in each other’s corners, but now they are not communicating their problems like they used to. They are both painfully aware of this too. But increasingly there is a concern that if they dig deep enough into each other’s heads and hearts things will fall apart between them. And neither of them can handle that.

I think to a degree Ranboo is almost more afraid that Tubbo will fall apart than he is of their relationship crumbling should things go poorly between them. While Ranboo has been able to grow his support system, Tubbo has not. Sure he has Quackity and Jack, but Tubbo does not take the opportunity to lean on and develop his relationship with Quackity any further than Quackity initiates, and really Tubbo’s relationship with Jack is one that enables his paranoid coping mechanisms. At most Jack acts as both an architect and a guard rail to Tubbo’s kill switch.

Bee Duo adopts Michael, and it’s the perfect way to put genuine truth and love into something shared without having to face each other. In some ways, Michael did help them to face each other, but it’s hard to say this could really be enough with how little time left they had together. The mansion is built. Tubbo lives in Snowchester. Ranboo only sometimes. Beeduo looks at this mansion and says here is a permanent place where we can all stay. Maybe Ranboo will even move in here full-time instead of keeping all his things in the arctic commune. Maybe. Probably not. Be he could! As long as steps are always being taken towards the ideal they’ve never truly lost it. But if they were ever to settle into this perfect family home, they will have to truly face their imperfect lives.

The worst part of it is, being imperfect is actually perfectly okay. Falling apart is expected and honestly needs to happen before they can truly be there for each other again. But they are both so afraid. They need this to be the one thing they don’t give the chance to fail. They will always have each other as long as they never do. Their marriage and their family and their forever home.

anon you have to see it in your minds eye instead of your eye's eye, snowchester mansion can and should be strange and off-putting just like the rest of that town. look.

*i paint a picture using my mind powers to move the paintbrush and show you snowchester's seaside looking dwarfed by the landscape and somewhat eerie because despite the sturdy wood and stone architecture and the lit torches and the quiet atmosphere it is colder than it is cozy and the silence feels foreboding and the snow is so heavy in the air that behind to the right of this sea side village is a looming dark structure obscured by the dense snowfall so sometimes you don't even know it's there and other times when the snow lets up there's a creaking wooden manor like an apparition and it is hauntingly devoid of any real sense of being lived in aside from portraits on the wall so when you enter you can hear every sound the house makes and when you step in to take shelter from the snow you wander around a bit too far only to find out it is not in fact empty a stout figure with heavy scarring and snow boots on inside the house melting wet puddles on the floor says “can I help you” and you hear him before you see him and he sounds close but when you turn around he’s leaning against a wall just outside the door of a room towards the end of a corridor and—*

i hate the snowchester mansion. its a good build but it completely ruined the vibe of snowchester for me? especially because the whole spruce forest was leveled and it doesnt fit in with the style of snowchester at all. like foolish is such a good builder and its a really good build but its so out of place and wasnt used at all by tubbo or ranboo and it just RUINS the vibe. like snowchester couldve been this cool hidden away offputting place especially after the whole nuke thing and ranboo dying thing and ghostboo but that fuckinggg mansion ruined it i want it gone forever i hate it

i had a funny little headcanon of felix (my mc) and cove at the beach-

cove noticed that felix just didn't use the sunscreen and knows that felix sunburns a little easily so he points it out. felix just pouts a little and cove just understands that "oh he hates the texture of sunblock doesn't he" (in which cove is totally right) so he just takes a minute and offers to put the sunblock on felix instead. felix blinks and begrudgingly holds their arms out for cove to deal with

Coming to the realization that if you take any character on the dream smp and analyze their relationship to c!ranboo or c!technoblade you immediately get this other side of that character or just an interesting pair. Like, what the fuck was burger duo. That was a thing that occured and it had no reason to but it made so much sense and I loved it. Niki and ranboo or Niki and technoblade both offer a great opportunity to learn more about her character and how they may parallel her. Quackity's opinion of Technoblade. Quackity's opinion of Ranboo, especially in NLM. Fucking bedrock bros and the driving influence it had on cTommy's character post-exile. The way these two characters just exist in another person's narrative and immediately become a catalyst of change for them. c!Techno's impact is far more conspicuous as once he has appeared within a narrative the characters begin to talk about and fixate on him as a force of nature. c!Ranboo's impact is more like a fridge horror to anyone experiencing it where their impact is not realized until down the line, or perhaps is only realized by the audience when looking for it. Like. Yeah c!Tommy main character sure yes by way of force. Bro inserts himself loudly into each plotline, but he does not always mesh and becomes more of a cameo in stories that are not his own. He remains an unchangeable force. C!Ranboo is like. Underneath each plotline. They openly receive the meaning of that plot line upon entering it and react quietly and methodically in response to those meanings. He's extremely good at grasping a situation, but no matter how much he is meshed into yet another narrative, he is invisibilized and overshadowed by the other characters involved (and this is by design). There is not a single space that is off-limits to c!Ranboo as dictated by those who inhabit it, but c!Ranboo isn't people's topic of discussion. C!Techno on the other hand tries deliberately to remain on the margins of the plotlines or is explicitly feared in spaces by those who inhabit it, but is constantly involved through mention or incitement to different stories by their respective characters. I don't know man. Like what the shit they're both so incredibly narratively compatible with just about every character on the server (tho not often personally compatible).

The presence of both Techno and Ranboo in Dream's prison escape in combination continued to add such a new and refreshing flavor to Dream lore. And on that note! The way that Ranboo acts around Dream (the real dream) is obviously so fucking *i glitch out of the map*. These twooooooo. ccTechno and ccRanboo really said We Are Writers. We Are LARPers. Observe.

cove would probably eat lemon slices for fun.

felix reverting back into his middle school self or borderline "dudebro" mode when separated from friends, family and cove

they do it ironically with people theyre close with and unironically with people they aren't close with

felix probably listens to glass animals to an unhealthy degree. favorite album is "how to be a human being"

cove definitely does enjoy acoustic covers of songs though

I'm thinking back on the Inconsolable Differences stream followed directly by the stream where c!Dream wanders around the server and finds c!Foolish’s builds. Like. From c!Dream’s pov these two events make such perfect sense next to each other.

It must have been genuinely jarring for cDream to see 2 people walk into the maximum security base he’s copped for himself. cWilbur and cTommy got in unobstructed and blindsided him with an entrance he may not have even realized was there. He played it off, he took the situation in stride, but after the on-screen interaction with the discs burning and everything I imagine he was probably pissed by just how out of his control that interaction was (and more than a little shaken).

He goes to find the entrance cWilbur and cTommy used and seals it off to ensure the prison-base is safe for him again and goes about his day. Problem solved, won’t happen again. But it had taken him off guard, and reminded him of how it felt to be rattled, and sealing up that entrance wasn’t enough. If he hadn’t noticed that flaw in the structure, what else might be going unchecked? What other vulnerabilities has he overlooked in his base? In the server? Maybe he got too comfortable for a minute, enough to have some tea by himself just because he can and he wants to.

So he gets restless. The whole altercation has left him buzzing with energy for a number of reasons, and it never hurts to run some reconnaissance on the server. He’s just staying on top of things. He finds himself walking towards the first unknown object he spots—cFoolish’s newly furnished nether entrance—and has an array of thoughts and feelings entering this new space. He’s been locked up for quite some time. He knew things would continue to expand and be created and go on while he was locked away, but the Summer Home feels truly out of the blue. And it’s impressive. It’s well done, it exudes power and creativity and wealth and stability. He is in awe. He is curious. He is wary. But he isn’t necessarily afraid, that is, until he comes to understand that cQuackity has any connection to this space at all. Suddenly his curiosity is more desperate. Suddenly this is a hole in the prison wall, an immediate threat to the structure. That’s all cQuackity has become to him in the past months, a threat. Danger. Discovering new information about cQuackity’s network and realizing just how much of a blindspot cFoolish had been to him just reaffirms to cDream’s brain that this reconnaissance is necessary. That one can never be too paranoid or know too much. It’s a self-reinforcing action that he’s undoubtedly taken before and will take again.

Insane!! Please tell me more about the used to be a cat thing!! Was Felix just a regular cat who got adopted by a witch or is the implication that baby witches have animal forms/start out as animals?? (In the au is a witch like a job that just anyone could have or are they like a race of people?) Was Felix always going to grow into a witch or was there some sort of deliberate choice+spells going on??

Also!! I really like Kyra as a mermaid and Cliff as a human I think that's a really smart way to incorporate the canon dynamic!!

hello hello, hope you're doing well !! i'm currently writing this in public to be unbored and i'm probably gonna be too lazy to edit this when i come back home* so apologies for stuff that may not make sense. i also answered for some merfolk stuff in a separate post, if you're curious! anywhoozies~

basically the surrounding world in this au is pretty alive. it has consciousness that's different from it's inhabitants— so, what's happening is that being a witch could kind of also be classified as some kind of race. there's families who's members are blessed with any random magic domain (i.e. witch, wizard, alchemist, etc.), if any at all, and the families who are known to be a whole line of a specific magic domain.

but speaking of the races, there's actually two: your magic domain and obviously whether you're human, mer or other. felix is actually just raw magic, that's how it is for the witches who were "wished". "wishing", as i'd like to call it for now, is a manifesting ritual reserved specifically for witches. if the witch is unable to have a child, they "wish" for a kid which ends up in the shape of a gifted animal companion that eventually evolves into a child that at least vaguely represents their parent/s. the only downside is that, the wished child won't be able to reproduce since they are made of magic and therefore does not have reproductive organs (or functional ones?). so, felix is an odd mix of adopted yet simultaneously not really adopted?

for the rest of the castro family, the only member i had a clear image on was definitely liz who is, as you suggested, a nymph. she was pretty protective of that playground after all. for liz's magic domain, since the mc mentioned something about her doing osmosis, maybe she'd be a wizard? (or was she in architecture? i don't remember. 💀💀) for 'lani and pam however.. i have absolutely no idea. other than at least one— or both of them— is definitely a witch, which is where felix came from.

and a reminder that these concepts are pretty subjective to change in the future. especially if i actually end up writing a fic, which might end up be called "tales of sunset bird"? thoughts?

so the basis of the fantasy au, and regarding cove specifically— he isn't entirely merfolk. i intend on keeping cliff as a human, and kyra as the merperson. which explains kyra not visiting often, and cove visiting his mom instead since it's easier for him as a child of both sea and land. then cliff takes cove to shore and they live there instead since cove seems to be completely functional on land and the rest is history :) but either way, they would've ended up living near a beach like the original storyline so maybe the mer x witch pairing isn't so unlikely lol.

the worldbuilding and character details on that miiiiight change in the future, but i wouldn't really know what to do with the au so uh maybe i should start posting fics on ao3...? (/j of course. haha unless?)

for the second question, the painfully obvious pining started at step 2. when it happened? it was either the day when kyra was supposed to go back to nevada, or off screen in the in-between of step 2 and 3 when they were.. 16? how it happens and who asks, is felix— who ends up accidentally telling cove out of tiredness after their performance at, i guess, a school recital? (idk if other schools do this asdjdsjd) this happens in the in-between confession i talked about. for the confession when they were 13? i think we already know how that goes so,

Eeeeeeeeeee!!! Okokok ummm obviously this doesn't have much to do with the game but my favourite question to ask about ocs is in a fantasy au what would they be? And then slightly related to that, if Felix could choose to have a fantasy characteristic (i.e fangs, wings, glowing eyes, etc) what would he choose?

(oh also just want to confirm that he/him is Felix's pronouns?? Really don't want to be getting that wrong)

oooh okay this actually got me thinking. very interesting very interesting,

if felix was in a fantasy setting, i think he'd be (or at least want to be) a witch or any sort of spellcaster- alternatively, if we're talking about a fantasy race he would be something like a magically charged humanoid (? i don't know how to explain that part 💀) but if you were to ask step 2 felix, they'd probably say "tiefling".

if we're talking merfolk au he is going to be a shark. not much reason, other than the fact that felix loves sharks alot.

and about fantasy traits, felix having cat eyes (that probably emit a faint glow) and mini fangs is too cute and kind of a little too fitting to pass up. maybe they'd also have one of those magic tattoos that become animated when a spell is used on it?

to make things clear, though (mind that some of these details may change): merfolk are blessed by the sea domain, it favors their kind and gifted children of the sea with passage and healing through it's waters. true merfolk seem to lack the ability to shapeshift, however, and can only manifest and retain a human form through enchanted items like charms and potions. most of the merfolk population has the ability to bend water, though it's more like the water responds to a mer's wishes. in other cases, they're actually more in tune with the aquatic vegetation than they are with the waves. but honestly, merfolk kind of just function like children of poseidon ("percy jackson" wise, books specifically)

as for cove and his magical properties (again, this may change in the future): basically as a half-mer he has the abilites of any other merperson, however his version is watered down*. - even if the waves may not respond to cove as well as it responds to kyra, the sea's healing properties applying to true merfolk do not lessen when you're a half-mer like cove. - being a child of both sea and land dominions, cove is gifted the ability to shapeshift into a (partly) human form. - that more human form of his actually still allows him to be perfectly fine underwater under some conditions. - like, he can't swim down as far as he can in his "mer" form, and also the water's temperature has a bit of an effect on him in comparison to his other form which is abundant with scales.

Magic tattoos, hell yeah!! I know that step 4 Felix has a sleeve (are the flowers poppies or something else?) but does he have any other tattoos? Did I see you mention somewhere a matching tattoo with Cove or did I make that up??

hey stormberrii, i hope youre having a lovely day as well <3 currently, school is kicking me in the ass but while i wait for my pc to restart i will take the time to answer this,,,

other than tending for plants, felix (as also vaguely mentioned in past posts) has a knack for music! as a middleschooler, they picked up drums and electric guitar which then gets switched out for acoustic guitar when step 3 rolls in. he also likes collecting accessories, or anything that's shiny. part of me likes to think that most of the beach treasures they end up taking home is just a crap ton of sea glass. however, out of all of those his favorite hobby is. teasing cove. also yes, i definitely mentioned the "matching tattoos" thing and they are indeed supposed to be the white linen poppies. my initial thought for it is with that "other half" thing cove and the mc has going on, felix got a white poppy tattoo on his left arm to mirror cove's :> (tbh when i thought about it i felt so big brained it was kinda funny to witness)

and finally, no, i don't think felix got any tattoos anywhere else. however, he did get a tongue piercing as a result of poor impulse control 💀
