Took a few liberties with this one, and not entirely happy with it... hm. I will soak in it for now and see how it feels!

----- Why paint Ai Hoshino as Empress Sissi?

Empress Elisabeth had a fascinating history before her murder. She was from royalty, yes, but she was raised in a very country way. She was obsessed with her beauty and her health, but she was also kind -- many of the common people loved her. However, despite how beloved she was, she was stabbed by an anarchist and died in 1898. So she, like Ai, was put on a pedestal and had to work so very hard to keep up appearances. She was beloved. But, because of this high standing, she was a target for the unhappy and unsettled ... and ultimately suffered death for it. Based on the portrait of Empress Sissi by Winterhalter (1865).
