If you are in your 20s or early 30s and are still trying to figure out your life and feel like you can't be an adult/function within society, can I please recommend Nagata Kabi's memoirs????? She's a manga artist who nearly exclusively writes/draws about her own life, and her struggles with utterly crippling anxiety and depression, and her fight to become an adult that she can love!
I have been BINGEING them these past few days, and I feel like I have learned so much about myself!!!! The author is so vulnerable and honest about herself (even about nsfw things), and while there is a focus on her hardships, the things that she's learned I feel like can be quite useful to people who are still trying to figure things out!
There are some serious CWs for eating disorders, suicidal thoughts, and alcoholism (and also sexual assault if you read her 5th memoir, but the author is kind enough to tell you what page to skip to if you don't want to read it).
I've been dealing with the fact that I've just turned 26 and I still live with my parents, have a part time job, and quite frankly have no romantic prospects-- but in spite of how hard some of the topics she writes about are, I cannot begin to tell you how hopeful these books have made me feel.
So... I just wanted to share in case someone out there might need something like this right now!
Image below is the cover of the first book-- be warned, the paperback and ebook versions of this same book's cover are more on the nsfw side, so be careful looking it up at work lol. Also while she is a lesbian, I feel like these things can apply to folks of any gender or sexuality!

Kamala Khan’s bookshelves
Kamala’s room in The Marvels is an absolute treasure trove of little details to zoom in on, and I’ve identified so many books on her shelves!
Shelf 1, top to bottom:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1. Landmark Experiments in Twentieth Century Physics by George L. Trigg
College-level book about experiments that helped us learn about x-rays, lasers, isotopes, superconductors, and all kinds of other things I don’t understand. Meant to be more practical than theoretical since it talks about the actual methodologies of these experiments. Could be for school, or for Kamala and Bruno to run their own tests of Kamala’s powers. The first of many books in the Khan house that come from Dover Publications.
Tumblr media
2. Space Time Matter by Hermann Weyl
“An esoteric initiation into space time physics” -Amazon reviewer. I’m gonna be real, I don’t understand half the words in this book description, but apparently it’s famous for introducing gauge theory, which was later reborn as phase transformations in quantum theory. I can see this being something Kamala reads to try and understand the bangle transporting her to the Partition. Also from Dover.
Tumblr media
3. A Map to the Sun by Sloane Leong
A graphic novel about a high school girl’s basketball team learning to work together despite their many differences and conflicts. Also it has a gorgeous color palette. Seems fairly self explanatory why it’s in this movie. I’ll definitely be borrowing this from my library! Like my friend Kamala recommended a book to me herself.
Tumblr media
4. The Good Immigrant anthology edited by Nikesh Shukla
21 essays from Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic (BAME) people in the UK about their experiences. It was crowdfunded initially, extremely critically acclaimed, and has gotten spinoffs and sequels. Riz Ahmed, who is British Pakistani, is one contributor, and a fun fact is that Rish Shah (Kamran from Ms. Marvel) worked with Riz Ahmed in an Oscar winning short called The Long Goodbye. Also, the editor, Nikesh Shukla, is currently writing the Spider-Man India comics series!
Tumblr media
5. Bright Lines by Tanwi Nandini Islam
A coming-of-age story about 3 young adults with complicated family, friend, and romantic relationships between them. They have to travel from Brooklyn to Bangladesh together one summer and thereby discover a lot about themselves. I haven’t read it, but there seems to be a ton of complex representation of LGBTQ, POC, immigrant, and Muslim characters. I wonder how much the three main characters can be compared with our three characters with complex relationships in The Marvels, and I wonder which character Kamala most relates to!
6. I can’t tell! The font is bugging the hell out of me because theoretically, with that amount of contrast, I should be able to read a word when I get two inches from the TV and mess with the settings. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
7. I also can’t tell, but I’m being easier on myself because the title is written in white on a yellow background. It’s not the only book I know off the top of my head with this color scheme (Yellowface by RF Kuang) because the title is definitely multiple words. Help!
Shelf 2, right to left:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1. One Night that Changes Everything by Lauren Barnholdt
A YA romance where, through a convoluted series of events, a teenager must face all of her insecurities in one night. I can see Kamala devouring this as brain candy after wrestling with those advanced science books, or using it as fic inspiration!
2. Can’t tell, but love the color scheme!
This next one is a weird one, because I am 100% sure of what book it is, but I cannot find a picture of a matching edition.
3. Wizard at Large by Terry Brooks
It’s definitely, without a doubt, this book (where a character and a magical medallion are accidentally transported to Earth from another realm and switches places with an evil genie). Like those are the words on the spine and the plot of the book is an obvious choice for this movie. The fonts match on the audiobook, the ebook, and the next two books in the series. But try as I might, I cannot find any proof on the internet that the physical book that appears in Kamala’s room, that uses those two fonts and that spine formatting, exists. This is haunting me…
4. (On the other side of the box) It’s not The Twilight Saga Eclipse, but I definitely thought it was before I could watch in high definition. I think it’s a journal or sketchbook of Kamala’s; there are a bunch scattered throughout the room.
Shelf 3:
Tumblr media
I’ve only identified the bottom book, which is Einstein’s Theory of Relativity by Max Born (Dover Publications). The third one up is HAUNTING me, it looks SO identifiable and yet!
Living Room Side Table:
Tumblr media
1. Amateur Astronomer’s Handbook by JB Sidgwick (from Dover Publications)
2. Cosmology by Hermann Bondi (also Dover)
Both of these seem less difficult than the science books in Kamala’s room, but reviewers note that it helps to know calculus when reading Cosmology. Idk which member of the Khan family is reading these, but I love their family’s connection to the stars 💫
Tbh I’m having so much fun doing this! And I really wish we got to see Monica’s living space so I can analyze her books 😭

I'm excited to announce Phoenix Awakening is out now and available for purchase as an ebook, paperback and hardcover on Amazon, Barns & Noble and more!
Phoenix Awakening is an adult romantic fantasy and first book in the Hiraeth Song series.
Synopsis:
War cannot be ignored. It creeps into all aspects of life even when those in charge deem it best to disregard and keep their people in ignorance. The Kingdom of Ignis is no exception. As its princess, Moira's life centered around mundane worries such as picking what outfit to wear out of the hundreds gracing her closet, avoiding her lessons and hanging out with her Scarlets. But that all changes on the eve of her eighteenth birthday, when the walls surrounding the Five Kingdoms are breached and she pulls a wounded soldier up through her shadow. Swept up in the rippling consequences, Moira must mend burned bridges and awaken the latent Gift within in order to prove herself worthy of the knowledge and responsibilities befitting her title. Or risk losing all she had to begin with.

Happy to announce my new book is out!!! 😀 It's my first short story collection "Songs on the Radio, Volume One". I've been working on this for the past couple years. It features 14 short stories in a variety of adult and Young Adult genres, though most are in various romance genres too from modern to historical, romantic mystery/thriller, a boxing sports romance, a modern-day version of "Howards End", some family drama stories, and more. The concept for this was each story is inspired by one song, which is also the story's title.
Here's the cover:
Tumblr media
And here's the track listing of all the stories/songs.
Tumblr media
"Songs on the Radio, Volume One" is available on Lulu and will be on Amazon, B&N, and other book sellers shortly in both hardcover and eBook formats along with all 9 of my other novels & novellas. Working on Volume 2 now too.

Happy STS, Claire!
At which point of the writing process do you decide on a title? How do you find one? Does it just come to you, or do you spend a long time looking for the right one? Do you keep projects under a WIP title before that point? If so, what's the biggest change between WIP and final title you've had so far?
Happy ST(F)! Thanks for the ask, Elli! Yes, it does sometimes "just come to me," but sometimes it takes a while to "just come to me."
My first novel, which I don't really talk about much because it's over a decade old now and I'm over it, went through two different titles. The first one was awful and I'm not going to mention it out of embarrassment. I retitled it when I decided to "publish" it as an ebook under a different name I thought was better, although I'm also not going to mention that because it's technically still up somewhere and findable (shudder). Moving on! 😅
The Adored went through a few different titles, but then again, it also started out as an adult literary fiction book rather than a YA romantic thriller, so that's to be expected. Originally it was Prodigy in Babylon, which to this day is my favorite title that I've ever come up with, and I still regret not being able to use it. Luckily, The Adored is my second favorite title that I've ever come up with. That book has a good track record with titles!
Good Slaves Never Break the Rules, not so much. I didn't actually decide on that title until basically the moment I posted Chapter 1 on A03, despite having started writing it 6 years earlier. I had originally thought the title would be something with the word "chains" in it, because, makes sense, right? But I had never really settled on what that would be, exactly. And that was also the name of the WIP file/document for a long time -- actually, funny story, I reversed some of the letters on purpose so it actually read "Chasin," which means nothing, but sometimes I'll write somewhere with other people around and I didn't want anyone to see it and start asking awkward questions.
I've said before that I was never really 100% on board with the GSNBTR title, mainly because it is SO on the nose, but I'm pretty much stuck with it now (considering I already have the cover design). And on the bright side, it made the name for the sequel really easy to come up with. But the problem there is that I may end up breaking up GSNBTR into a 3 book series for publishing purposes, in which case I'll have to steal the title I had intended for the sequel and use it for the second book in the series (and then come up with a third one).😅

Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands (Emily Wilde #2)
Tumblr media
Heather Fawcett’s Emily Wilde book (the first) hit me over the head, kidnapped me into the story, and spat me out the other side in a daze—much like Fairyland itself. Emily Wilde's book (the second) is equally charming, mysterious, romantic, lush, and magical.
I might have overdone it on the adjectives.
But truly. This series is as unique as it is well written, and Fawcett matched the promise of the first book with one that enlarges the cast, the scope of the world, and the stakes of the adventures without losing the heart of the characters.
Please read this series. It deserves all the love. It sort of reminds me of a more whimsical Erin Morgenstern or an adult, fairyland Stiefvater. I hope those comparisons made any sort of sense to someone.
Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine for the opportunity to read the ebook ARC. All opinions are, for better or worse, mine alone.

Reading update
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Just Like That by Cole McCade - 2/5 stars
So I started reading this age gap romance about two professors at a boys boarding school expecting it to be different than the last Cole McCade romance I read. It...wasn't. The emotions are turned up to 11 all the time, from the very first page, and that means there's nowhere emotionally to go. It also felt rushed and like the characters didn't really have room to breathe. So...I might retract what I said about the first Cole McCade novel I read needing to be shorter, because this one was shorter, and it didn't work.
Scattered Showers by Rainbow Rowell - 4/5 stars
Bought this for the SnowBaz story, ended up reading the whole thing and quite enjoying it. The SnowBaz story was definitely still the best though.
Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo - 4/5 stars
In my last reading update I said I wasn't going to read any my Leigh Bardugo books, totally forgetting this one was sitting very near the top of my TBR pile. I liked it a lot, but I have been informed that Hellbent involves a glowing, fully erect demon penis in multiple scenes (and not even for demon sex) soooo yeah. I think I'll give it a miss.
The Gentle Art of Fortune Hunting by KJ Charles - 4.75/5 stars
Drama! by AJ Truman - 4.25/5 stars
Bloodline by Jordan L Hawk - 4.75/5 stars
Wanted, A Gentleman by KJ Charles - 5/5 stars
Oh I loved this one so much. I love when KJ Charles writes books with a twist because I never see them coming. And it's not like the clues aren't there. This is a super quick read but so good. I definitely could have read a full length novel about Martin and Theo.
The Klockwerk Kraken by Aidee Ladnier - 5/5 stars
You look at this book and you think, tentacle porn. And yeah, there's some sex with tentacles. But??? This book??? It kind of wrecked me. It's two connected novellas about trauma, healing, family, memory, love...really really good. Highly recommended.
Pack of Lies by Charlie Adhara - 5/5 stars
And then I read a werewolf book and loved it! Not that I expected to hate this or anything, but I definitely went into it feeling a bit iffy, because werewolves are really not my thing. This book is romantic suspense and really good, and I loved Julien and Eli so much. This is a spinoff of Adhara's other werewolf series, which I want to read, but it's only available as an ebook, and I don't do ebooks.
Seven Tears at High Tide by CB Lee - 4/5 stars
Cute little YA mermaid book. Mermaids also aren't my thing so I liked this more than I thought I would. Much better than Jason June's Out of the Blue, imo.
A Restless Truth by Freya Marske - 4.75/5 stars
Again, my toxic trait is I don't really enjoy reading books about women or f/f romances. But not surprisingly at all, this book was really good. Though, you know. I inhaled all references to Robin and Edwin (of which there were many) and was sorta/kinda more invested in the hints of romance between Hawthorn and Alan. Obvs excited for the third book.
The Rules and Regulations for Mediating Myths and Magic by FT Lukens - 3.5/5 stars
Just Like This by Cole McCade - DNF
Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. I put this one down before I got through chapter 2.
Never Ever Getting Back Together by Sophie Gonzales - 5/5 stars
I tore through this book in a single day. It was SO funny and sweet. It's considered YA but quite honestly I'd call it New Adult. Or if you don't like New Adult, straight Adult. Sophie Gonzales is the author of one of my top reads of last year, but of course, since this is an f/f romance, I was wary. But ugh, so good. Highly recommend this one.
The Luminaries by Susan Dennard - 5/5 stars
Apparently the idea for this came from the author posting polls on twitter for what would happen next, which is...unspeakably lame, honestly. But the book that came out of it is great. Loved the world, loved Winnie and her family (especially her brother and his boyfriend).
Beguiled by Joanna Chambers - 5/5 stars
Loved the first one, loved this one more.
This Census-Taker by China Miéville - 3.25/5 stars
What was this even about? Pretty sure Miéville was high on peyote when he wrote this.
Nick and Charlie by Alice Oseman - 3.75/5 stars
Picked this up because it was 20% off at Target and was actually pleasantly surprised by how much more adult it is than the series. Then of course started watching season 2 of the series and found it to be as sanitized as season 1.
The Henchman of Zenda - KJ Charles - 3.5/5 stars
He Bears the Cape of Stars from Duck Prints Press - 4.5/5 stars
Glitterland by Alexis Hall - 3.75/5 stars
This is a re-release of one of a novel Hall wrote like a decade ago. It's not a romcom (which I knew going in), but I didn't expect it to be quite so rough. Similar in ways to Paris Daillencourt is About to Crumble, only that was funnier. The fact that he wrote out the Essex accent really grated, but I guess it kind of made sense. My bigger issue with this book was the absolutely shit editing. There were repeated paragraphs, formatting issues, and places where it seemed like there had to be something missing because it made no sense.
The new edition is annotated by Hall, which was pretty fun. Not a bad read, but it's not Boyfriend Material.

The Patron Thief of Bread
Tumblr media
The Patron Thief of Bread by Lindsay Eagar
this was a charming read, even though the aspect i picked it up for, the gargoyle, was the least charming part to me. the main story, about orphan Duck who grew up in a ragtag gang of child thieves, is a delight! she finds her voice, she finds herself, she makes a family, she makes mistakes and then does her best to make them right again. she's a fantastic pov, i love her! and i love stories about food, and this story is so much about bread and baking and sustaining the people you love without expecting anything in return!
what didn't really work for me was the frame story of the grumpy gargoyle at the top of an unfinished cathedral. it was fun at first to have the gargoyle's perspective, a bird's-eye-view so to speak, of the passage of time, or the city where the story takes place, of the people in the city. and the basic premise of a depressed and grouchy gargoyle whose cathedral was abandoned, and whose purpose--to protect--has never been fulfilled, was an interesting way to start, and had a nice moment again at the end. but the gargoyle keeps coming back, interrupting the flow of the story without adding anything to it, repeating the protection theme again and again but never seeming to take any notice or give any new perspective on what's happening down below, in the main plot. this is a middle grade book (meaning for the 8-12 range generally, but i think this one skews young), so i understand some of the messages being quite on the nose. that's the purpose of a middle grade book! to introduce kids to themes and concepts they may not have read about before. but the repetitiveness of the gargoyle's narrative felt pretty unnecessary to me, even with the understanding that children's books sometimes feel a little repetitive to adult readers.
all that said though, it was worth the read to me because of Duck, and also because of the Master Baker, Griselde! absolute butch queen, wears trousers and shirts slit up the side because she works in the heat of the ovens all day, takes Duck to back alley jousts, remembers people's kids' birthdays and makes them special illegal cakes with icing decorations, by her own admission built like an enormous barrel, steadily going blind from having her face in the ovens since childhood but her disability is handled beautifully, with so much skill and care. she moms Duck so hard in the most respectful way, she's friends with everyone, she misses her beloved dead husband and talks about him like he hung the moon and i love her so much!!!
the deets
how i read it: an ebook from the library, via Libby. someday i will pick up an actual physical book again, but between Libby and NetGalley and my day job being nuts right now, i haven't had the chance!
try this if you: have romantic feelings about a good hot loaf of bread, dig a medieval setting, love a story where things work out in the end, read about street urchins and think is anybody going to adopt that?, or know a kid having a medieval or historical fiction phase
a line i really liked:
Griselde hollered, making her blue handkerchief dance. Duck glanced around the stadium. There were only a few others holding up blue banners, and so Duck, feeling bold, tapped the baker on the shoulder. "Why blue?" she asked. The blue knight, by Duck's assessment, was the shortest, the stockiest, and the slowest--the least likely to win by far. Griselde let out another tremendous yawp, then answered, "It's the last color I have left." Duck frowned. "Every other color faded to a tea-stained brown long ago," Griselde explained. "But blue stays." She tugged on the hem of her blue tunic and winked at Duck, who looked back out at the knights in the square, trying to imagine such a murky world.

Writeblr intro 💙⭐️💜
Tumblr media
Flies into open window through helicopter wire and front rolls across room.
Wait, wrong window.
Repeats everything but into the correct window where you’re standing and magnificently introduces myself for the first time.
Hey~🕺🪩
A bit of backstory for this account. (Feel free to skip this and go straight into the intro below):
I made this blog ages ago to try and connect more with self shippers, but I ended up not doing anything with it because I became inactive in the self ship community (at least until now. I might make a separate blog for that later, but right now I’m focusing on some more important things in my life).
So I tried reforming this place into a “I’ll put whatever I want here” sorta thing, but once again became inactive. And now that Instagram (my main platform) has basically been rendered useless because of the tags not working anymore, I need to find a new “main” to talk about my writing and shit. So I’m trying for a third and hopefully final time to reform this blog, and turning it into a writing/oc blog. :b
Tumblr media
✨✨✨
About me:
✨✨✨
Tumblr media
🛸 My name is Rosalind B. Sterling, but you can call me Ross or Ros.
🛸 My age is—slowly looks up at the number twenty looming over me. Dear god. It’s coming.
🛸 I’m a college student. Or at least I’m supposed to be. If my school would just make the transfer process a bit easier, I’ll hopefully be able to make it this semester.
🛸 I’m a demibiromantic asexual, and genderfluid. My pronouns are she/he/they 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️
🛸 I’m Puerto Rican, German, and Scottish.
🛸 I’m also neurodivergent.
I mention all this because I want everyone to know that this is this is a safe space for LGBTQ+, POC, disabled people etc, and I love using my experiences as a person from these groups to write diverse casts of characters into my books.
Tumblr media
✨✨✨
About my writing/what to expect from this blog:
✨✨✨
💜 I'm an author/writer, editor (mostly developmental), artist (mostly cartoonist), and reader who posts illustrations, writing content, book reviews, discussions, thirst traps of sexy characters 💅, and more. See? You get an enjoyable variety of content here ✨
💜 I primarily write adult oriented stories in the genres: crime, comedy, and sci-fi, while mixing in vintage/nostalgic elements from different time eras ranging from the 1920’s to the 2000’s. I also love playing Cupid and slipping in different romantic subplots with varying levels of spice.
💜 You’ll probably see a lot of morally gray characters, cartoon-style humor, a chaotic/meta writing style with 4th wall breaks, and lots of parody/spoofing in my stories.
💜 I’m a planster, and often don’t know what the hell I’m doing when I write. I just shit something out and shape it into something readable with the help of my many betas and editors who still somehow put up with me to this day (I love you guys).
Tumblr media
✨✨✨
What do I read?
✨✨✨
I like to read what I like write, except not everything I like to write is available in the book world. So at this point, I’ll read anything as long as it holds my attention for more than a few chapters.
Tumblr media
✨✨✨
Can I read anything of yours right now?
✨✨✨
⭐️ Yep!
My debut novel: "Villain vs. Villain and the Revitalization of the Transtemporal Case" is the first book in my illustrated, crime/comedy/sci-fi trilogy. It's currently on Amazon in ebook format, and on Goodreads. But I’m also in the works of getting the paperback out this month as well as the animated-ish book trailer.
Tumblr media
It’s a story about a time travel scandal taking place in 2005. Jonathan, a black market salesman, is on a journey to clear his name and stop his brother from messing with the timeline. Along the way, he teams up with an undercover agent and go on wacky adventures together as they attempt to reach their goals and hopefully put a stop to their dimension’s demise.
⭐️ I also have a few random short stories on my website blog which can be found here, however, I’m highly considering re-working them as they are all unedited, probably full of errors, and I also wrote these anywhere from months to years ago, so I don’t think they properly represent my current writing all that well.
⭐️ Honorable mention to my Webtoon which you can find here. I haven’t posted anything yet, but have plans to do mini comics with the characters of my Villain vs. Villain trilogy as a way to explore ideas and backstories I couldn’t explore in the books themselves.

Do you have any WIP's?
✨✨✨
Distant screaming.
Too many my friend...too many. But my main WIP right now is book 2 of my Villain vs. Villain trilogy. I also have a 1920's crime/comedy/sapphic romance short story thingamajig I've got in development that I hope to publish next year. I simply don't have the time, money, or energy to publish book 2 next year as I originally planned, so hopefully this short story will fill in that publishing gap until I get my trilogy figured out.

Some random facts about me:
✨✨✨
💙 I love anything Y2K, scene, noir, neon, synthwave, cyberpunk, etc. You name the aesthetic, I probably like it. (I have waaaay too many eclectic interests and styles so I’ll probably look different in every photo, and I’m putting my bets on it that this account won’t have a concise theme either).
💙 I have a shih tzu/writing partner named Dakota who will sometimes appear on my account. (He loves contributing to my drafts by jumping onto my lap and slamming his paws and ass on my keyboard). Also ignore the half destroyed chair he’s sitting on. He’s responsible for said destruction and is proud of it.

💙 I currently live in Ohio, and yes, I can confirm first hand that it’s an entrance to the backrooms. The screams from outside keep getting louder too…
💙 Horror is my comfort/self indulgent genre. I would say the same about erotica but I really can’t seem to get into most books I find in that genre for some reason. So I mostly read shitty X reader fics online involving the characters I crush on (who totally aren’t cartoon men in their middle ages).
💙 Music is one of my biggest inspirations for writing. My favorite genres are 2000’s-2010’s pop music, and electro swing. My favorite artists are: Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, Pitbull, Wolfgang Lohr, Swing’it, and more.
💙 I talk…a lot…as you can tell by the length of this blog 🌝

Welp, that’s all I got for now. I’m still working on reforming this blog, as I said earlier, so there might be a mess of random posts here here as well as an unfinished theme until I figure how the actual hell to use this platform. I sorta wanna post both orginal and fan content like I was doing before, but whenever I dedicate an account to my writing, I feel odd posting anything that’s not OC related. We’ll see what happens.
In the mean time, check my link tree for my other socials, website, and my editing services. If you follow this blog, I’ll most likely follow back because I need friends lmao. No matter your age, the genre you write, where you love etc, come say hi. I really don’t have restrictions on what kind of audience I want since I love everyone and wanna connect with as many writers/artists as I can. Hit up my DM’s too if you wanna chat. I’m always open to have a nice convo.
And with all that being said, welcome to my blog raaahhhh 🦅
Jumps out of window and dies.
