Personally I could not be bothered with politics whether it be politics about the governance of the country, politics about education or the oh so favorite politics concerning race, the notorious fight between black and white. However, in all those aspects I am very much affected by the politics of them as I am a black, South African student and as much as I have no interest in the politics behind all these three aspects, they play a massive role in my life as well as the lives of the thousands who also fall into these categories. These days as we have evolved with the era, everything has moved into the digital space, whether it be television, radio or social media platforms. Social media platforms especially twitter seem to be used more often by public figures and in the context of this post, highly esteemed political figures such as the heads of the opposing political parties being Mmusi Maimane, and Julius Malema. In my opinion the most successful and most efficient movement carried out on a social media platform being twitter inclusive of Facebook and WhatsApp as well was Fees Must Fall or commonly referred to as #FMF.

#FMF was a movement which resulted in students standing up against the fees and the continuous increment of the fees which ultimately restricted the accessibility to higher education. I truly believe that the initial intentions of the movement were beneficial to all and worthy. The FMF movement happening on social media was all the ammunition the students needed as it became a larger movement that no one could ignore because of the involvement of other relevant figures in South Africa. Once celebrities recognized as well as joined in on the movement, it was difficult for members of parliament to ignore the issue and it called for the heads of the tertiary institutions to listen to the demands of the students and actually take them seriously.
