MASTER POST
The Experimental Monster Laboratory, or Monster Labs, is a TADC AU where the cast is in the physical world! Sorta..
C&A Research Facilities is one of the cornerstones of the science and medical worlds! They do everything; funding research, manufacturing equipment, and research into the known and unknown in an effort to understand everything. To the public, that is.
They experiment heavily in everything, from hiring literal Gods on earth to manage the more ..sensitive divisions; mixing machine and magic, technology and the supernatural, genetic experimentation, you name it, they’ve probably done it! The world outside may not know anything of the advancements they’re researching but there is little C&A Labs won’t allow in the name of progress in understanding and cataloging everything in their universe. Our story takes place in one of the more private residencies deep in C&A, belonging to Caine; a minor God with mysterious origins, unknown limitations, and boundless enthusiasm for learning everything he can about his little science friends.

Because I had headcanon that Color is Autistic and has developed special interests in things such as photography, travel, maybe even things like social advocacy.
Maybe even philosophy and psychology. For now, in this posts, I’ll focus on the big two: photography and traveling. (I will also touch on how Color’s physical disability, chronic fatigue, his autism, and perhaps his ptsd/ separation anxiety from Killer also effect his ability to engage in his interests in another post.)
I think he’d develop some decent if not above average technical knowledge, such as camera types and functions. Detailed understanding of different types of cameras (DSLR, mirrorless, point-and-shoot, medium format, etc.) and their specific functions.
Knowledge about various lenses (prime, zoom, wide-angle, telephoto, macro) and their applications. Mastery of camera settings like ISO, aperture, shutter speed, and how to manipulate them for different lighting conditions and artistic effects.
In-depth understanding of how aperture, shutter speed, and ISO interact to create a properly exposed photograph. Proficiency in using software like Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop, or other photo editing tools for post-processing and enhancing images.
He’d learn about artistic elements such as composition techniques, lighten and color theory. Develop a familiarity with compositional rules like the rule of thirds, leading lines, framing, symmetry, and how to creatively break these rules.
Knowledge about natural and artificial lighting, how to use light to create mood and depth, and techniques like backlighting, side lighting, and using reflectors. Understanding of how colors interact, complementary colors, and how to use color to convey emotion and direct viewer attention.
Awareness of different photography styles (portrait, landscape, macro, street, documentary, astrophotography, etc.) and genres, and what makes each unique.
Knowledge about influential photographers and their work, such as Ansel Adams, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Annie Leibovitz, and contemporary photographers.
Understanding the evolution of photography, from daguerreotypes to digital photography, and significant milestones in the field. Awareness of current trends in photography, popular styles, and emerging technologies.
And, of course, he’d develop and grow practical experiences and hands on practice. Experience with on-location shoots, managing different weather conditions, and adapting to various shooting environments.
Knowledge about how to properly maintain and clean camera equipment to ensure longevity and optimal performance. Skills in troubleshooting common issues like lens flare, sensor dust, or focus problems.
He’d have a deep enthusiasm for specific techniques or subjects he enjoys photographing, whichever or whatever you all think those could be exactly.
Likely to have personal photography projects, well-organized portfolios, and possibly an online presence showcasing their work. Extensive collection of books, articles, videos, and tutorials related to photography.
A special interest in traveling, in addition to photography, would manifest in the character in several ways, showcasing their passion and extensive knowledge about various aspects of travel. Here are some specific aspects:
For his interest in travel, he’d be very well versed in the planning and research process. Color might create comprehensive travel itineraries, meticulously planning each day's activities, routes, and schedules.
He might gradually develop an extensive knowledge about various travel destinations, including historical sites, natural landmarks, cultural attractions, and lesser-known gems.
He’d display a proficiency in booking flights, accommodations, and transportation, as well as understanding visa requirements, travel insurance, and local regulations.
An expertise in packing efficiently, knowing what to bring for different climates and activities, and how to pack photography gear safely for travel. Color is likely to show a very deep and profound appreciation for different cultures, learning basic phrases or even fluency in multiple languages to better communicate while traveling.
He’d definitely show a deep interest in trying and understanding local cuisines, knowing popular dishes, and even recipes from various regions. He’d have at least some knowledge about local customs, traditions, festivals, and etiquette to respect and immerse themselves in different cultures.
He’d certainly develop some geographical and historical knowledge, with a detailed understanding of world geography, maps, and the ability to navigate using traditional maps as well as digital tools.
Knowledge about the history of the places he visits, including significant events, historical figures, and the cultural evolution of the region.
He might maintain detailed travel logs or journals documenting his experiences, including photos, notes, and personal reflections. He’d definitely collect souvenirs, postcards, or other memorabilia from his travels; often gifting them to beloved friends.
He’d probably engage with travel communities, forums, and social media groups to share experiences and gain insights.
This special interest would possibly lead to him gaining a lot of practical skills, such as in budget management. Expertise in budgeting for travel, finding deals, and managing expenses effectively.
He might display an ability to adapt to different environments, handle unexpected situations, and problem-solve while on the go.
Although it’d probably be harder for him than most, particularly if he has a harder time handling and dealing with change—especially if the change is unexpected and unplanned.
Knowledge about staying healthy while traveling, such as understanding local healthcare options, vaccinations, and travel safety tips.
He’d like combine both interests by using his photography skills to capture stunning images of the places he visits, creating travel blogs or photo albums to document his journeys.
He might create photo essays or visual stories that capture the essence of the cultures and places he explores. Share his travel experiences and recommendations with others, possibly through writing travel guides, blogs, or social media content.
All this is to say that Killer would definitely encourage Color to come with him to explore abandoned places and ghost towns, and Color’s going to be so overjoyed he starts hand flapping. He’s going to take so many pictures, he’s going to remember it forever.

Finding Resolve
We’ve all done it. We are all part of this new phenomenon, something that barely existed before this century, and only truly gained momentum in the last decade. The worst part is, most of us have forgotten exactly how much we are involved with it, because it is hard to remember what and how much these phenomena cost.
I am talking about the subscription economy, that magical place where software and streaming services are the product, and our monthly bill is usually on autopay. It ranges from SOAS (Software As A Service) providers like Adobe and Microsoft, to all the music, movies, and more that we stream into our homes, cars, and mobile devices.
And it is eating us alive. How many subscriptions do you have? Let’s start with your vehicle. Do you have satellite radio? That’s one. Do you subscribe to cloud-based software? That can be one or more. What about streaming tunes like Spotify or Apple Music? There you guy. The list is getting longer.
And then there are all the streaming TV choices, which runs from services like YouTube TV to Netflix, Paramount+, Apple TV+, Peacock, Max, Hulu, Disney…I could go on. You may have cut the cable at home, but you tethered yourself in other ways to the extent that the net effect is little different.
Then there’s the gaming community, if that’s your thing. More dinero. Maybe you fell for the premium version of an app, like Accuweather. If you’re a regular Amazon shopper, you no doubt have Prime, which costs $139 a year, plus the vitamins and supplements I receive every month from them. Like listening to books? There’s Audible. Old newspapers? There’s Newspapers.com, one of my favorite sites to do research. Cloud storage? Good Lord, I have several, for my thousands of photos and documents.
So successful has the subscription model been that paywalls have appeared everywhere online, like the New York Times, Washington Post, and Atlantic Monthly, each of whom have amazing content, a feast for my eyes and brain. Alas, I have drawn the line, because I sense it has long spun out control. And if CNN goes ahead and paywalls its app and site, I guess I won’t be reading them anymore.
Because I, like many people, have subscription fatigue. I simply cannot begin to consume all of this media. Sadly, I cannot remember all of the services to which I subscribe, and if you aren’t there yet, I bet you will be soon enough. The only way to know for sure is to carefully track your credit card statements to look for monthly billing.
That, of course, is the problem, because we willingly provided our billing data so that we do not have to do this every month. As long as that credit card is valid, those providers will keep hitting your card every month. It is only when your card is about to expire that you get a notification. And if you were not careful and instead provided a bank routing and account number, they can keep sticking their hand into your pocket as long as you have that account.
Ironically, there are new subscription management software sites and apps that supposedly make it easy to track and opt-out of all the things, but they are subscription services themselves. That’s like replacing one drug with another. You’re still on the hook.
It all starts so easily, because many of the subscription services are technically just micro payments, only $5 or $10. We see that as pocket change. Other services offer annual payment options, which provide a slight discount for paying in full in advance. But many of the once-cheap micro payments have started to get expensive, like Netflix and Spotify (I am speaking from experience). They are no longer minor indulgences.
Were these tangible products we had to buy in a store, I bet we would all be a lot more careful. The friction of having to be somewhere to even just tap your credit card would probably be enough to cause us to think. But it is simply too easy in the digital world to keep subscribing, because once we get in that loop, there is never any friction.
We are all going to have to muster a lot more resolve to win this fight, as well as start keeping meticulous records. Otherwise, these things develop lives of their own, lives that will continue hitting credit cards even after our own lives are over. I’m pretty sure none of us will be consuming anything at that point, and there’s no use paying for it.
We don’t have to wait for New Years Day to make this resolution.

hi can you pls do scenario #74 with junker queen x m!reader? ty🫶🏻🫶🏻
"Just A Little While Longer"
Fandom: Overwatch / Overwatch 2
Pairing: Odessa "Dez" Stone (Junker Queen) x M!Reader
Rating: Orange [🟠] (Equivalent to G/PG)
Warnings/Mention Ofs: Fluff, Implied Past Relationship, Not Necessarily Platonic But Not Necessarily Romantic, Soft! Odessa
Word Count: 524 Words
Author's Note: Odessa reminds me of an angry poodle for some reason
After all this time, Odessa has finally managed to achieve everything that she had worked so hard for. It was something spectacular to witness, something that was also quite heartwarming, but that was more of a feeling that only someone that was close to her could tell. Growing up alongside her in that small Outback settlement, watching as she became a strong, fierce individual, that was until having been banished from Junkertown by Mason Howl. Despite being banished, dealing with the hardships of losing her family and thriving by becoming a gladiatorial mech champion in the Scrapyard, here she stood now over Mason Howl, being announced as the new ruler of Junkertown: “Junker Queen”. Odessa had everything she could have ever wanted now: established her reign, and her creed, including barring Junkertown to Omnics, and establishing a system of law (such as it was) for the town. (Y/N) couldn’t have been any more proud of her.
Over time though, as much like anything else that you do over and over again for quite some time, it starts to lose its excitement, and becomes more of that stressful, repeating job. That’s exactly how Odessa was currently feeling, despite that she had kept up that devious grin and acted as if Junkertown is on the top of the world. She needs some time away; she needs her own personal space. A place for her just to refresh and relax, so he heads out to the only person she knows that she could do so with: (Y/N). She shows up to his little adobe unannounced, as per usual, beginning to complain about how boring or stressful while making herself all at home. “Eventually the excitement fades away, Odessa. Yet, this is exactly what you’ve spent all our time in the Outback for. You’ve gotten further, and have done more, than anyone else here. You should be proud of yourself.” It doesn’t take long for the politeness to fade away, reverting back to their usual insulting each other all while wrestling.
After spending the next couple of hours hiding away from the world and the responsibilities that they’ll eventually have to return to, Odessa is laying among the floor, head within (Y/N)’s lap enjoying the feeling of his fingers within her hair all while returning the gesture with tracing the letters of their names against his thigh. She begins to reminisce about their days back when all they had was each other in the Outback, creating small talk about their experiences and what else they could’ve done. Eventually, small talk settles into a comfortable silence, and soon enough sleep overtakes the both of them. As night turns into morning, sunlight disturbing the sleep of the two, but yet Odessa interferes when (Y/N) suggests that she begins to make way back to Junkertown. She reaches up and gently cups his cheek with her hand, giving a sleepy smile. “Can we stay like this for just a little while longer?” (Y/N) returns her sleepy smile with one of his own, returning her gesture by mimicking it. “Of course, Odessa. Just a little while longer.”

Based on my experience working with a good number of Gen Z folks, now that they are entering the work force, I think employers and trainers need to know that many in Gen Z did not receive any tech training in school. While most Millennials (many who are now in management) had some level of computer classes to teach basic computer operation, word processing, typing, and spreadsheets, lots of schools just cut those classes for Gen Z assuming they got it at home. At the same time, Gen Z largely transitioned to touch-based devices with app based ecosystems. To the extent they had more traditional computer access, most experienced Chromebooks which are an entirely different beast.
Now they are entering offices using predominantly Microsoft and Adobe products and they are expected to just have the core computer competencies, with the assumption someone taught them before because they are young and of course they have tech skills. If you are in a position to train younger folks on the core competencies of your job, do so with awareness that you may be the first person to show them how to do things in Word or Excel. You may be the first one to show them the tricks you know about how to make your work computer do what you need it to do. Have patience as they type poorly, and offer tips on how they can improve. They will learn and they will do so far faster than you can imagine, but you need to give them the training. Do so, with kindness and compassion knowing that skills were assumed, not taught.

Hi Gomz! Been so inspired by your art, I'm considering picking up digital drawing again haha. What device and app do you use? What would you recommend if I wanna restart drawing? Would be great if you can answer with doodles :D thanks!
Hello Cumi! Thank you very much for this ask, to think I can inspire other people with my doodles means a lot to me <;3 ((def not cryin rn))
In this ask response, I'll include some links that you can check out for the appropriate stuff! I hope you can understand some things by the end of it :D
Disclaimer: im no professional, so most of this is just based on my experience!!
Okie dokie first off:
What device and app do I use?
I draw using a drawing pad, the Deco Mini7 on my laptop, and I use Krita to draw :3
Krita is free to use! You can download it here, or if you can afford it, clip studio paint is definitely a popular choice out there, some people use adobe too!
I will say it may seem complicated at first BUT it is relatively easy to learn once you get the hang of it, there have a full tutorial on their website with videos included if you wanna know more! digital art apps usually works the same way, once you get the fundamentals you can draw on any app tbh
Or if you do want to start using Krita, then you can send me another ask in the future and I'll share you my tips and tricks (which are honestly pretty scuff HAHA))
Other recommendation if you want to draw on phone/tablet/ipad!
2. I know you didnt ask this, but I wanted to share my experience starting out with digital painting/using the drawing pad for the first time
the thing about digital painting is that there's a lot of features here and they serve to make the process easier, but it can be quite overwhelming when you start off! examples are layers
drawing pad also means getting used to not looking at the pad and the screen at the same time + getting used to the pen, I had a hard time with it but the more I use it, the more i got used to it :D
funnily enough, I actually gotten this drawing pad bcuz I started using lecture notes online through pdf and such xD
3. What would you recommend if I want to restart drawing?
Not really sure what you mean about restarting, but Im assuming like finding a new artstyle or trying out different art medium is it? (like from traditional pencil doodle to stylus pen) but if you mean literally restarting then uhhhh XD I guess you gotto start drawing then haha?
I think my motto when it comes to drawing is that no matter what it is, just do it
"its gonna look bad" its okay bcuz at least I drew it, yk? xD the thing with art is the more you draw, the more you're familiar with it, the less intimidating it will become(tho it can still be scary, but hey! baby steps right?)
perhaps what I would recommend is testing out all kinds of artstyle, ask yourself:
what am I going to draw? ex: I wanna do self potraits! I wanna do silly doodles of my favourite characters!
what style do I wanna do? ex: Chibi, non-chibi, landscapes
Sometimes, you won't know those answers to those questions until later on, which is exciting dont you think? one day I said "im gonna draw Ghost in full gears" then the next I decided "actually nah screw that im gonna make Ghost cute" -w-
didchu know my first few digital doodles were done on OneNote? haha yes! and on my lecture notes nonetheless pfttt (this was around october 2022)
When in doubt, always ALWAYS start small and simple. Draw a circle, draw a blob, anything! Make it manageable :D
You can, of course, challenge yourself and go big! the most important key is you're drawing for yourself :3 and you should do something you're happy with!
well, sometimes there are moments where you wont like what you draw or artblock, when it comes to those time Id recommend taking a break xD
Finding your artstyle is an ever growing journey, I would suggest looking through websites like Artstation or Pinterest and collecting artstyle that you like! then learn from it, replicate it, trace it(AS LONG AS YOU DONT CLAIM IT AS YOUR OWN AND YOU DO IT FOR PRACTICE PURPOSES!!!) and study it :3
like heck I just found a new artstyle yesterday literally HAHA so you know, enjoy the fun!
4. Other helpful links and video for starting out digital painting:
Marc Brunet, has a ton of tutorials that are useful! my fav one being this one about face drawing and cell shading
Bluebiscuits, very cute artstyle and the videos are always soothing and calming to watch! they did this video about finding your artstyle which I highly recommend! their face drawing tutorial is also really good :3

How to Start a Social Media Marketing Agency
In the dynamic world of digital marketing, social media has emerged as a powerful tool for businesses to reach their target audience, engage with customers, and drive sales. With this rise, there’s a growing demand for specialized agencies that can navigate the complexities of social media platforms to deliver impactful marketing strategies. If you’ve been contemplating diving into this lucrative industry, you’re in the right place. This article will provide you with a step-by-step guide on how to start a social media marketing agency.
Step 1: Gain In-Depth Knowledge and Experience
Before you can guide others, it’s crucial to have a solid understanding of social media marketing yourself. This means staying updated on the latest trends, understanding different social media platforms, and knowing how to create engaging content and analyze metrics. You can gain experience by managing social media accounts for friends, family, or local businesses, or by taking online courses and certifications from reputable sources.
Step 2: Define Your Niche
The social media marketing landscape is vast, covering industries from fashion to technology. To stand out, it’s wise to specialize in a niche. Whether it’s by industry, type of service (like influencer marketing or paid advertising), or size of business, defining your niche will help you target your marketing efforts and build expertise.
Step 3: Develop a Business Plan
Every successful venture starts with a solid plan. Your business plan should outline your business goals, target market, competition analysis, service offerings, pricing structure, marketing strategies, and financial projections. This document will serve as your roadmap and can be crucial for securing financing or partnerships.
Step 4: Legally Establish Your Business
Choosing the right business structure (such as an LLC, sole proprietorship, or corporation) is critical for legal and tax purposes. Register your business, obtain any necessary licenses or permits, and set up a business bank account. It’s also wise to invest in liability insurance to protect your agency.
Step 5: Build Your Online Presence
As a social media marketing agency, your online presence is your portfolio. Create a professional website that showcases your services, case studies, and testimonials. Be active on various social media platforms, not just to promote your agency, but also to demonstrate your expertise and engage with your community.
Step 6: Invest in Tools and Resources
Efficiency and effectiveness are key in managing multiple clients’ social media accounts. Invest in social media management tools like Hootsuite, Buffer, or Sprout Social for scheduling posts, analyzing metrics, and engaging with followers. Additionally, graphic design tools like Canva or Adobe Spark can help in creating eye-catching content.
Step 7: Market Your Agency
Leverage your niche and expertise to market your agency. This can include creating valuable content on your blog, optimizing your website for search engines (SEO), engaging in social media, and networking at industry events. Consider running targeted ads on social media platforms to reach potential clients directly.
Step 8: Deliver Exceptional Service
The success of your agency hinges on the results you deliver. Focus on creating strategic, creative, and measurable social media campaigns that meet your clients’ objectives. Keep communication lines open, and provide regular updates and reports to your clients. Happy clients are more likely to refer others to your agency.
Conclusion
Starting a social media marketing agency can be a rewarding venture for those with a passion for digital marketing and a desire to help businesses grow online. By following these steps and continually learning and adapting to the ever-changing digital landscape, you can build a successful agency that stands out in the competitive market.
Remember, success in social media marketing doesn’t happen overnight. It requires dedication, creativity, and a strategic approach. But with the right mindset and execution, your agency can thrive, helping businesses achieve their digital marketing goals while you build a prosperous and fulfilling career.

Adobe Broke Photoshop in 2023
A bit of a disclaimer: this will contain quite a bit of swearing and a lot of anger so be warned
For the past 3 and half years, I've been using photoshop for pretty much all of my digital drawings. Ever since I discovered you could draw in it back in my high school digital media class back in the 11th grade in 2019, I've pretty much used it for everything from school work to my comic to personal works. Despite its hefty price, its been reliable tool for me, and I've never had any sort of issues with it, up until recently.
Upon joining the tapas community, I was shocked at how much photoshop was disliked by the wider art community. Hell the mod in a server I'm in hates it with a burning passion (and may hate others who use it but idk). Mostly I've noticed that the complaints boil down to photoshop being buggy, unstable and overall unreliable. But in my experience that couldn't be further from the case. And if this were me from 2022 typing this, I would have to agree. But now I can see where they're coming from. In the course of 6 months, photoshop has gone from being a reliable good program to a complete mess. And any good will I had towards it is gone, and I'm surprised I'm still using it. The following is a recollection of my experience with the program beginning at the tail end of 2022 to now. Its going to be hard for me to frame this story in terms of escalation because it starts off really bad but gets slightly better by the end, but not by much.
Crashing:
Its inevitable that any computer program will crash at some point, and Photoshop is no exception. Up until this year, crashes were never really an issue. Sure they were annoying then they happened but they happened so infrequently that it was never a major problem. But that would quickly change. Beginning a few days before 2023, and ending around March and April, Photoshop would crash at the frequency of...every week, usually once per week at best and up to 3 or fucking 5 at worst. And it would all be the exact same. I would be drawing and out of nowhere, the program would freeze. I couldnt minimize it, close, save or do anything. The only way I'd be able to close it was by using task manager to force quit it. This was, as you could expect, annoying and extremely rage inducing but it wasnt just crashing that caused this.
Now thankfully, photoshop has an auto recovery feature so if the program crashes or if your pc looses power, you can recovery what you were working on and everything would be fine! But if photoshop crashed this way, auto recovery wouldnt work properly. It would recovery the file yes, but anything I was working up to the moment of crashing would be fucking gone. I cant tell you how many hours of work I lost because of this. Entire page layouts, sketches, selections, layers, etc gone within in an instant. I would try to levy the damage by changing the auto recovery timer from 10 to 5 minutes but only just.
I tried tolerating this at first but it kept happening more and more and eventually I had enough. My solution was to downgrade to the previous photoshop version as I surmised that the newer version had broken photoshop. This happened in February and up until the end of my spring break in March, I felt a sense of peace that I hadn't felt in a while. Sure, it would still crash but not the level as it did before. But that changed on the 16th and 17th. Photoshop crashed 5 times within those two days, three of them happening on the SAME... FUCKING... DAY!!! I wont lie, I felt defeated in a way I hadnt felt in a long time and out of desperation, I ended up updating to the latest version, praying that that would be the fix.
However this part of the story has a happy ending...sort of. I ended up making a thread about this on the adobe forums and ending up updating the driver for my graphics card and after that, photoshop stopped crashing. And unlike the last time, it didnt increase to that frequency ever again. In fact, I found a way of spotting when a crash would happen and found ways of avoiding it. The freezing would happen on certain files I was working on. And if I closed that file, I could avoid the entire thing freezing and loosing all my work. But regardless, the first 3 months of the year have (as stupid as this sounds) permanently scared me and Im still subconiously scared photoshop will crash constantly again.
The Annoying Ass Bugs:
Though the program had stabilized, my issues with photoshop would persist in the form of bugs which are really really fucking annoying to deal with. The first of those came in the form of it getting stuck on left click. If I had the program open for longer than 24 hours (or if I used the keyboard commands for undo, copy + cut + paste, or other tools that werent the brush and eraser tool), photoshop would get stuck on whatever tool I was using left click for. If it was the zoom tool, it would zoom in and out without me holding my finger down on the left mouse key. Same with the rotation tool and so on. The only way I could stop this was by closing the program and reopening it. Now, this is far better than the program crashing on me every day, but its very inconvenient. And I dont think I need to explain why. Other updates would come but Adobe didnt seem to fix it until an update that came out in early June. However, in doing this, they introduced another bug....
If I rotate the canvas or zoom in on a file Im working on, switch tabs and come back to that file, the camera position is reset. Rotations are reset, Im now zoomed out instead of zoom in, the camera is focused on a different part of the canvas. And unlike the last one, I cant stop it by closing the program. I dont understand how Adobe keeps on doing this. This fix a bug by introducing a new one. How is that even possible? And to make matters worse, they rolled out another update with "stablitiy issues" and according a comment left on a thread I made about this on the adobe forums, they still haven't fixed it. God only knows when they will and when they do, I wouldn't be surprised if Adobe found a way to break photoshop again.
So there you have it! With 6 months Photoshop has gone from a reliable work horse to a program I don't trust using. About half an hour before typing this blog out, Photoshop crashed while I was trying to fill in something, and I have to ask myself, "Why am I still doing this?" Why am I still using a program I hate using? Why am I subjecting myself to this? Why cant I just use the program every artist gushes over like its the second coming of Jesus Christ, Clip Studio Paint? And I dont have an answer. Apart from me wanting to finish my comic without worrying about adjusting to different art programs, I don't know why I'm still using photoshop. Maybe its because I've used it for so long that I have an attachment to it. Like I cant move on and just be done with it. Maybe despite all I said, I dont want photoshop to be this bad. I want it to be a good program. I want say with pride that its reliable program. I want it to be a functional stable thing I can use to draw my characters. I hate what Adobe's done with it.
I don't really know how to end this post. But all I can say is Adobe, you fucked up big time....

End of Semester Reflection
This semester saw us explore three essential Adobe programs: Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign. From this list I was very familiar with Photoshop, had had some experience with InDesign, but had admittedly always avoided using Illustrator because I didn't understand how to use it properly. While I still have much to learn, I can happily report I am now significantly more confident using all three of these programs and no longer fear the dreaded Illustrator.
The biggest problems I encountered with this course involved Illustrator - but that's because I was treating it like Photoshop. The missing piece and the biggest lesson I learnt was that Illustrator layers stack whereas Photoshop layers interact (or at least how my brain interprets it). Once I had this locked in I was able to absolutely smash out my book backgrounds on Illustrator with ease. This program was without a doubt my biggest learning curve, but honestly it was the most satisfying to get right.
Learning the Pathfinder tool was probably the trickiest part and the way I managed to finally wrap my head around it was to sit down and just play around with it. While the buttons do say what they're going to do, until you're familiar its hard to compute what they actually mean. If I could do the semester over again I would have taken more time at the beginning to figure this function out as it was a real fundamental I missed and struggled with as a result.
Because I was sick or away for a large portion of Term One I found myself behind very quickly. When it came to catching up I went through all the material provided to us on Moodle and Teams and did all the steps/documented everything myself, but to make sure I was on the right track I was often checking Timothy Still's (timothystillop1.tumblr.com) for a reference point. I definitely don't think he as even aware I was using him for inspiration, but he had a really solid Tumblr to use as an example so if I ever meet him (or have I? I'm not even sure WHO Tim is) I will have to thank him for getting me through the Tumblr side of this course!
Our final project saw us make a nursery rhyme book for a small child, I chose to personalise mine for my three year old niece, Riley. This was without a doubt my favourite assignment of the semester across all my papers and I think that shows in my final spreads.
I wanted to challenge myself by minimising how much I used Photoshop to create my pages as this was the program I always gravitate towards. While I obviously had to cut my Riley images out and edit them on Photoshop, almost all other media featured on the pages was created in Illustrator. I did take my Illustrator backgrounds into Photoshop to add my Riley images so I could make final adjustments, but all in all I'd say 80% was Illustrator.
With this project I got a little bit excited and did stray away from the brief by adding an additional four pages, but I don't feel like the quality of my work dropped with the extra workload. My goal was to create something I could get printed and bound to give her as a gift, and I am so insanely proud with the work I produced I can't wait to give it to her.
One thing I will be revising before getting it printed is changing some of my supporting images into proper vector drawings. For the sake of time I did rip the pirate ship, the drum kit, and the microphone from the internet - but making them vector drawings that I create will allow for more cohesion across the book.
This course taught me a lot and has really inspired me to continue creating digitally. The skills and tools I have learnt across all three platforms will be things that I take away with me no matter what specific field I end up in - because even if I'm not using them professionally, they will be things I use in my own personal projects.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us, Toby!

keeping organised and on task at uni: bullet journaling and reducing phone usage (plus module thoughts)
While it’s fairly clear that this blog exists to reflect on projects I’ve completed, I realised there’s not much information on here about the course itself. Let’s change that!
Digital Media Foundations (or DMF, for short) is a largely practical module on the Media and Communications course at Kingston University. It has a focus on doing creative work and teaching students how to use industry-standard tools like the Adobe Suite.
One of the things I really enjoyed about DMF was the lectures in Term Block 1. In these lectures, we would learn a bit about the history of the practical things we were going to do in the workshop, and their importance, and even science - for example, learning that the reason animation works the way it does is because our eyesight lags ever so slightly when looking at images, which makes a quick series of images look like one continuous picture (Richardson, 2023). I love to learn and so being given access to a wealth of information in such an accessible and interesting way was very enjoyable for me.
Another thing which was very cool were the workshops. In these we were given instructions to work through to experiment with various softwares or techniques. In all honesty, while it was nice to have the freedom to work at our own pace, I do tend to struggle with self-guided work as I can easily get off-task and distracted, so the workshops could sometimes be quite hit-and-miss for me in terms of how much work I’d get done or how happy I’d be with the work I was doing. I’ve been working to find solutions to this, including using the app Forest to block my use of my phone whilst working, as this is my most common distraction.
Isn’t it literally the cutest thing?
Another struggle I’ve consistently had during this module - and you will see it in many of my posts about bigger projects - is planning and time management. With creative work, I think a lot of the time I can have almost too many ideas and get overwhelmed by them, unable to decide which ones will work best. And historically my time management issues have always been because I struggle to organise the information in my head. Although the planning thing is annoying, I’ve sort of accepted it as part of my process at this point and started working on projects earlier to give myself time to try out as many of my ideas as I can.
The main difference that I’ve made to my work routine is more about organisation and prioritisation: I started a bullet journal. Bullet journaling was invented by Ryder Carroll in 2013 as a way of keeping focused and productive in spite of his learning disabilities.
I’ve had several bullet journals in the past, but because I tried to make them elaborate and aesthetically pleasing like the examples I saw online (especially from ‘studytubers’ like Amandarachlee) they didn’t stick as I just didn’t have the time to keep up with them. This time, though, I did a lot of research into effective and minimalistic journal spreads and pages which I could use, mostly through Pinterest (I'll link my pinterest board here) and YouTube. I’ll pop a few videos that really helped me in a list:
Super-Useful YouTube Videos That Helped Me Figure Out A "BuJo" System That Works For Me:

Using these tools, I was able to set up my journal. I’ve been using it consistently for almost two months now and am hoping I’ll be able to keep going with it as it’s been immense to my productivity. Having all of my information, schedules and time planning has been incredibly useful. Here are a few sample pages from my personal planner!
