Adjutant Booba in Dengeki Sentai Changeman (1985)

Change Mermaid and Change Phoenix battle some of the Commander level villains of Gozma from 1985′s Dengeki Sentai Changeman.  Apparently when fighting a man, they do just fine but when against another woman, they have problems.

Then again, Queen Ahames and Adjutant Sheema are probably the two most competent of the Gozma Star League.

Great Star League Gozma

A group formed from the races subjugated by Bazeu, aiming to conquer Earth as the newest addition to his empire.

The Gozma armies are the Hidrer Soldiers, serving under Space Beast-Warriors.

Star King Bazeu destroys worlds and subjugates others, forcing the conquered people's to serve him or risk their world's being lost.

General Giluke is the Invasion Leader, commanding the forces while also scheming to get revenge on Bazeu.

Queen Ahames is called to earth later on, Bazeu unwilling to allow her to work with Giluke initially due to previous treachery, she comes to earth on her own terms, initially working against all sides.

Jangeran is Ahames' personal mount.

Adjutant Booba is a space pirate conscripted to serve Giluke, forming a rivalry with Hiryuu.

Adjutant Shiima is the princess of Amanga, taken from her family by Bazeu as an infant, she is cold and harsh due to her abnormal upbringing.

Navigator Gator pilots the Gozma invasion ship, the Gozmard forced to do so by the threat to his family, desperately seeking to return to his wife.

Gyodai is a strange creature that grown the Gozma Soldiers to giant size.

One thing I love about Dengeki Sentai Changeman are the villains, especially General Giluke and Queen Ahames.  These are former leaders of their respective planets, planets conquered by the evil Bazoo and added to his Great Star League Gozma. 

The pair refused to kowtow though and teamed up to try and overthrow the despotic space monster.  They failed and now serve him as a means to protect their own lives while seething with hatred for the conqueror who ruined their homelands and essentially enslaved them to do the same to other worlds.

Bazoo still suspects them and refuses to allow Giluke and Ahames to work together to conquer the Earth even though the pair of them would likely be able to rather quickly.  He wants to keep them totally separate in case they would try and betray him again and they would.

One of the reasons I think they hate the Changeman team so much is they see in them what they could never be, an actual resistance and threat to Bazoo.  These five humans oppose his will and thwart Giluke and Ahames’ own plans for terrestrial conquest in ways the pair of rulers never could.  Though they are still evil, I kind of sympathize with them as they are forced under threat of death or the destruction of their homeworlds, to serve a Master neither wishes to have anything to do with.

In fact, it seems no one has joined Bazoo willingly.  Booba was a space pirate conscripted into Gozma and Sheema was a former Princess and future Queen roped into working for the League.  It’s not a good way to run things when all of your underlings have reasons to hate you and want to see your downfall.  Only Bazoos immense power and the threat he poses to entire planets keeps everyone from turning on him.  It’s not a situation that can last forever.

The Great Star League Gozma

大星団ゴズマ

The antagonists of 1985′s Dengeki Sentai Changeman, The Great Star League Gozma is an interplanetary force of conquest made up of various members of the races conquered by the evil Star King Bazoo (or Baezu depending on your translation) who maintains the loyalties of his underlings by threatening their homeworlds should they rebel or attempt to disobey him.

Though Bazoo appears to his followers as a limbless, partially cybernetic humanoid torso, this is actually an illusion cast by his true form, a predatory planet that consumes other worlds and their life to make himself more powerful.

This projection also helps protect Bazoo by giving his enemies a false target to attack while his real body lurks in the background, safe from harm.

The leader of his attempted invasion of Earth is General Giluke, who once teamed with another of Bazoo’s enslaved minions to try and overthrow him.  The conquest of Earth is his atonement for his betrayal and the last chance he has to save his homeworld from destruction.

Giluke is served directly by two Adjutants.  The first is a former space pirate named Booba who serves as Giluke’s muscle and the commander of some of his Star Beast Warriors.

The other Adjutant is Sheema, a former Princess who would have been Queen had she not been abducted by Bazoo.  She was raised by a Star Beast and divorced from most human emotions.  She speaks with a masculine voice most of the time.

The other Star Beast Warrior commander and General Giluke’s former co-conspirator against Bazoo is Queen Ahames of the planet Amazo.

Beneath these officers and Royalty are the lower ranks.  Among them is the Navigator of the main invasion ship named Gator.

There is also Gyodai.  Gyodai is an alien with the ability to fire a beam that revitalizes and enlarges a Star Beast Warrior though it drains him.  He is more of a creature than a person and is sometimes treated like a pet despite his vital role.

Below everyone are the hordes of disposable foot soldiers, the blue-skinned, blonde-haired Hidler soldiers.

And these are the main forces of The Great Star League Gozma aside from their every visiting and destroyed Star Beast Warriors that make up the Monsters of the Week for each episode.
